"I was just pretending to not understand so you'd tutor me but I think its you that needs the tutoring."
She's been told she isn't the brightest bulb in the crayon box but if there's one subject Brittany is a complete ace in, it's math. In the beginning, the taunting and teasing really got to her but where everyone else failed, she succeeded. It's pretty great because while everything else seems to come easy to others, they always get caught up with math. It's rare that anyone's any good in the subject and Brittany rather be awesome at something no one else gets because what's special about being just like everyone else?
So she stays quiet and lets her straight A's do the talking..that is, until a new student joins her class by the name of Santana Lopez.
Well, maybe not her specific class per say but they share the same teacher only Santana is in the class before her and they met through Cheerios a month ago. Brittany took a liking to the girl ever since she saw her punch Rick "The Stick" Nelson in the nose when he tried grabbing her ass in the hall.
She was beauty. She was grace. She made blood run down Rick's face.
Brittany was impressed; new kids were usually shy and awkward but not Santana. She was bold and out spoken and beautiful. She was quick with her comebacks too and everyone started to get the hint that she was no one to be messed with.
More importantly, she was one of the few kids in school that didn't tease Brittany for her eccentricities. For that, Brittany was thankful and knew she had made a great friend but she couldn't help how she wanted to be more. Who wouldn't because although Santana was a total badass in the eyes of everyone else, with Brittany she was sweet and kind and made her feel things she's never felt for anyone else.
So she began to come up with a plan. A super secret plan to make Santana fall in love with her too.
Although they had been friends for awhile now, Santana was unaware of Brittany's certain strengths like math which set the plan in motion. It was pure genius, Brittany thought, she'd fake a couple failed quizzes and get Santana to help her study where Brittany would use her endless charm to hook Santana. It was a solid plan, totally fool proof, and in the first week of implication, it actually worked!
Not that Brittany needed a big plan to trick Santana into helping her with homework because she was surprisingly all too willing to spend time with her after Cheerios practice. But Cheerios practice turned into afternoons where they didn't have practice then that turned into Friday nights.
They were getting closer and closer and Brittany felt like she was making real progress until their math teacher almost blew Brittany's cover.
Now Brittany wasn't dumb, she didn't actually fail her class in order to get Santana's help. She wouldn't need to put on that front since they were in separate classes, but she was almost caught one day.
It was 2nd period so Brittany was walking Santana to her math class with their pinkies linked, their hands swaying between them. They always lingered in the hall until the very last minute, Brittany's class was only two doors down so she didn't have to worry about being late.
"Rumor has it that there's a pop quiz today," Santana nodded to her class, "It's on last chapter to be ready.
"How reliable is the source?" Brittany questioned.
Santana lowered her voice, "Mike Chang texted me last period, it's legit."
"Wow.." Brittany's eyes widened, "I can't believe he was texting in class, so unlike him but thanks for the tip."
Santana just smiled bashfully as their teacher, Mrs. Spencer, walked into the hall.
"Ah, Miss Pierce, I didn't know you and Miss Lopez knew each other." She said causing the girls to stiffen in fear of her overhearing that they knew about the quiz.
"Cheerios." Brittany answered simply.
"That's right," Mrs. Spencer nodded, "Maybe you can teach this one a thing or two?"
Brittany froze hoping Santana didn't catch up. Then again, Mrs. Spencer didn't necessarily address who she meant so maybe Brittany was safe?
"Uh..I gotta go!" Brittany said abruptly, not wanting to wait around for the answer, "See you after, San." And without realizing it, she quickly kissed Santana's cheek and left.
As the day went on, Santana never brought it up so Brittany took that as a win. What she didn't take as a win though was a peek at Santana's grade on that pop quiz they were warned about. It was a big red C- which was unheard of in Santana's eyes.
It must've been the chapter they were on, but Brittany noticed the slow decline in Santana's grades and most importantly the information she was trying to tutor Brittany with.
It was all wrong!
Brittany tried humoring her for the most part, not really focusing on what she was teaching because she was so distracted with the way Santana twirls her pencil between her fingers and how she sometimes wears her glasses when she knows no one else from school will see her, or how cute she looks when she's concentrating. But Brittany cared about Santana and she wanted her to succeed, so when she saw Santana start to slip, she decided to step in.
"Hmm, that's not right." Santana frowned, poking her bottom lip with the end of her pencil, "Where'd I put that answer sheet?"
"Maybe if you do it this way?" Brittany suggested, erasing Santana's way and rewriting it correctly.
"Yeah, that looks familiar." Santana watched in awe as Brittany successfully worked out the problem.
"This should be the answer, right?" Brittany asked, knowing well that it was.
Santana checked her answer and smiled, "That's right! Wow, you're really getting the hang of this, Britt."
Brittany blushed, not many people said that to her. She felt a little bad for lying to Santana all this time when she's been so nice in return. She thought maybe it was time to come clean.
"Okay, I've got a confession to make." Brittany said hesitantly.
Santana smirked, "You're a genius, aren't you?"
Brittany stammered then sighed through a smile, "Well..actually..yeah."
"Hold up, what?"
"It's silly, I wanted an excuse to hang out with you more. I really like you, Santana, and I thought maybe by pretending to not understand you'd tutor me but I think its you that needs the tutoring." Brittany confessed and Santana just stared blankly.
"So you lied to me.."
"No..yes..maybe?" Brittany stuttered then sighed, "Yes."
"Because you wanted to hang out more?"
Brittany was beyond embarrassed, "Yes."
"Because you think I'm pretty?"
Brittany looked up with her head tilted, confused.
"Because you really like me?" Santana began to smirk at the deepening redness in Brittany's cheeks, "And you want to kiss me?"
Santana had leaned in super close now but Brittany was so wrapped up in the fact that Santana didn't really look mad.
"And maybe you want to date me?"
Brittany finally kicked into gear at that, nodding her answer.
Santana just chuckled and leaned in to kiss her lips softly
"So you're not mad?" Brittany asked in a daze, wanting to confirm that Santana wasn't.
She shook her head, "No, but don't do it again. Grades are important."
"Yeah, speaking of grades.." Brittany smirked, "I think it's time I take over this study session."
"Oh, we're not studying anymore tonight." Santana grinned, "I've got a better idea in mind."
