THEY CAME FROM THE SEA

This takes place right after the castaways discover they have been marooned.

JUNE 22, 1964

"Don't worry folks!" The Skipper replied as he and Gilligan climbed back up onto the boat as the passengers sat up and stretched. "We've struck ground and the boat has a couple of holes in her but I'm confident that help will be here in no time!"

The passengers all yawned and mumbled as Gilligan shielded his eyes and stared at something in the distance.

"What is it Gilligan?" The Skipper replied as he grabbed his binoculars and looked to where Gilligan was pointing to. "Wow I don't believe it!"

He handed the binoculars to Professor Hinkley who took a look and gasped. Through the binoculars he could see several dolphins swimming past the island.

"Amazing!" He replied as he handed them to Miss Summers. "Tursiops truncatus!"

"Wow there must be dozens of them!" She replied as she handed the binoculars to Ginger Grant.

"They're what?" Ginger Grant replied as she took a quick look and then handed them to Mr. Howell.

"They're Bottlenose Dolphins!" The Professor replied as Mr. Howell looked through the binoculars while Mrs. Howell looked through her opera glasses. "They've been known to travel in the thousands!"

"Wow!" Everyone replied as they watched the pod of never ending dolphins swim past the island.

Two Days Later

After the Skipper and Gilligan were unsuccessful in getting off of the island they decided that they try to find a place to set up camp. They found a perfect clearing that overlooked a lagoon that was a short distance from where the Minnow beached.

The Skipper, Gilligan and Professor Hinkley carried all the luggage, the girls carried a couple of crates of food supplies while Mr. Howell just carried his radio and Mrs. Howell held her parasol umbrella.

"All right we can put all our things here for now!" The Skipper replied as everyone groaned and put all of their stuff down.

"Yoo hoo Captain!" He heard Mrs. Howell replied and he noticed that both of the Howells were still on the path that overlooked the lagoon.

"What is it Mrs. Howell?" The Skipper asked as he made his way over to them.

"You have to see this Captain!" Mr. Howell exclaimed as the Skipper got closer. "There is a dolphin in the lagoon with two tails!"

"Oh um. . . " The Skipper replied as he looked in the water unsure how to explain what he was seeing. "She's um actually eh um giving birth."

"Isn't that dangerous for the baby Captain!" Mrs. Howell replied as she watched the dolphin with concern.

"You don't have to worry Mrs. Howell!" The Professor explained as Gilligan climbed up onto a palm tree that grew sideways over the lagoon. "Animals like whales and dolphins give birth tail first so they don't drown."

"Oh that makes sense!" Mrs. Howell replied confused as they heard a splash.

They all looked to the water to see Gilligan, who must've lost his footing, in the water and he was dangerously close to the new mother dolphin who had just brought her newborn to the surface to breath.

"GILLIGAN BE CAREFUL!" The Professor exclaimed about to jump but was stopped by the Skipper.

"Um congratulations Delphina on your baby um girl!" Gilligan replied as Delphina made a clicking noise and the baby seemed to kiss Gilligan. "Awe good girl Kai!"

Delphina squeaked and whistled then they both jumped out of the water then splashed back into the water then disappeared around the bend.

"Um did Gilligan know her before hand?" The Professor asked as Gilligan swam back to shore.

"No he just has a way with animals!" The Skipper replied nonchalantly.

A/N: The Common Bottlenose Dolphin is the largest of the beaked dolphins having a snout that is well defined like a bottle. Due to the wide exposure they receive in captivity in marine parks, in movies and television programs they are the most familiar dolphin. They inhabit tropical and temperate oceans. A group of dolphins is called a pod and they can sometimes travel in thousands for short periods of time.

One of the most famous dolphins is Winter the dolphin whose tail had to be amputated in 2005 from being entangled in the ropes of a crab trap.
