THEY CAME FROM THE SEA III

This one takes place right after the second season episode 'Hi-Fi Gilligan' right after Gilligan finds all the wayward birds.

SEPTEMBER 2, 1965

After spending most of the day rescuing birds Gilligan yawned and reeled in the last of his catch. He was tossing a fish in a bucket when all of a sudden he heard a tiny whistling screech.

The Professor was yawning as he looked over his notes. The girls were yawning as they set the table for dinner. The Howells yawned as they came out of their hut. And the Skipper yawned as he finished collecting firewood. Then all of a sudden Eugene grunted, ruffled his feathers and took off towards the lagoon where a louder high pitched whistling could be heard. Everyone groaned.

"We better go see what's wrong!" The Skipper replied as everyone followed him to the lagoon.

Once there they noticed several dark brown things darting around in the water.

"Are those beavers?" Ginger asked squinting her eyes.

"No they look like giant water rats!" Mr. Howell replied as one of them swam closer to shore.

"No they're Sea Otters!" The Professor replied over the screeching as the otter came out of the water shook off and continued screeching.

"What do you think is wrong?" The Skipper asked as he gestured for everyone to back up.

"I think I know!" Mary Ann replied as she heard a tiny but loud whistling behind her. "She's looking for her baby!"

They all turned around to see Gilligan running up with a fluffy little dark brown weasel like creature with a light brown head, a big black nose and whiskers. As soon as it saw its mother it screeched and tried to wriggle out of Gilligan's arms.

"Be careful Davie!" He replied as kneeled down and handed him to his mother in the water. "Here you go Delilah."

Delilah grabbed hold of him, placed him on top of chest and began swimming away.

"See you later!" Gilligan called after them as everyone yawned.

A/N: There are a total of 13 otter species the one I described is the Southern Sea Otter. They are one of the smallest marine mammals and the heaviest of the weasel family. They live mostly in the ocean and their thick dense fur protects them against the cold. They are one of few mammals to use tools as they use rocks to break into shells.

Because of their thick fur they were hunted to near extinction and oil spills are one of their major threats. They are considered an endangered species.
