The nondescriptive Girl:
The two Ghosts rushed to the exit of the building, each one of them pushing one side of the door open. This was great, just great. So typical of Merrick; Keegan should have kept a closer eye on him, but he thought the guy was mature enough to keep himself out of trouble.
"Over there!" Hesh pointed out, taking the lead in the direction he pointed to. A bunch of people had gathered around the porches of several different buildings, which formed yard in their midst. Neither Hesh or Keegan could make out their friend. Keegan and Hesh pushed passed the crowed to get a better view of the situation.
There he was;f taking out one opponent after another. If they came from behind he would slam his strong arms back at them and force them to the sandy ground. Merrick really had the upper hand here; they all bounced back like tennis balls from a massive concrete wall. None had managed to land a hit yet. Some time later less opponents showed up and again one after the other were about to leave when Merrick finished the last green horn. But than she showed up;
"Fight me!" There she stood just about 5,4 feet tall, her head did't even reach Merrick's nose. In fact it was quite entertaining to look down at her for Merrick, who just smirked and ignored her. The elder Ghost realized that his two team mates were watching him; he couldn't help but think that Keegan would jump right between them if he laid a hand on the girl, who seemed familiar. He turned around to face her again. Her gray eyes watched his very move.
"Cady, right?" He remembered her. She seemed like such a cute and nondescript girl, there wasn't much about her that stood out to him; shoulder long blonde hair, tied back; slim build, though he couldn't examine her further, since she wore a oversized baggy sweater, colored in a faint black.
"What do you want? A rock-paper-scissors fight?" As Cady didn't answer Merrick turned on his heel and made his way over to Keegan, Hesh and Riley. All of a sudden he felt a blow of air followed by steps behind himself. Instead of answering Cady had charged for him to prove her point. In a matter of seconds Merrick spun around and seized her arm;
"How can someone so bulky be so fast!?" Cady thought, seeing Merrick's fist coming her way. Her eyes grew wider as her face and the fist, where just a few inches apart. The impact send her flying and she touched down on the ground hard. The rest of the force led her across the ground, causing a cloud of dust to form around her.
"Maybe we should call mummy for help, eh Cady." Someone in the crowd yelled and other humiliations followed;
"You are a whinny bitch!"
"Get back to the hole you came from!"
"Someone like should never be allowed to even set a foot on this base!"
"No wonder the commander rejected you from enlisting!"
"You are worthless!"
"You will never become a Ghost!"
"Stop…" She dug her nails into the ground. Her hair hung all over her face, not only to hide the small water drops of pain running down her face, but to also hide the black spot forming around her left eye. As the first tear shattered into a thousand smaller droplets, it came to her. She forced herself back up in a standing pose, still wobbling around from the dizziness. Merrick watched as she forced her body to move in his direction; her face still all covered in messy banks.
"I'll prove to you how strong I'm." She mumbled, but no-one even listened to her. They were more interested in humiliating and teasing her. Merrick on the other hand was more into seeing what she would do next.
"Bring it on." She got back in full fighting stance.
Merrick hesitated to go for her; the look in her eyes made him freeze for a short second. So determent, strong and it told him that she would give everything to win. Everyone knew there was more to winning a fight than just having that look on your face; he wanted to see what she could do.
"Okay." He said, also getting ready.
"Your technique is too sloppy." Merrick explained, as he stopped her fist and pushed her backwards. Cady stumbled a little bit, though attacking again. It didn't matter what she tried, Merrick was always one step ahead of her. It frustrated her to the point of her beginning to attack without any deeper thought behind it. Merrick though it was about time to end this. So he lead his fist directly into her guts, slamming her to the ground. From the ground she looked back at him, their glances met, both smiled. Merrick had to admit that he hadn't had this much fun in a long time. It almost seemed like her attitude was transferring over to him. Her glance went sideways so did the elder man's. People in the crowd began to mumble and out of the sudden it seemed to clear out a little bit. Surprise written all over her face. She wasn't sure what to do, until she saw the look on Merrick's face; it told her to get up and finish this.
"It's not over yet." Cady got up again, catching her breath. She wiped the dirt of her face. Both got ready for the final clash. This would determine who was going to leave as the winner. Cady knew that Merrick wouldn't let himself be beaten so easily. He had a reputation to lose.
"I didn't think so." He smiled
The two didn't hesitate to send each others fists flying in the face of the other one. Cady could even feel the air flow in front of Merrick's fist, before it dug itself inside the side of her face. The impact caused her to bite down on her tongue, resulting in blood running down the corners of her mouth. Too focused on the punch, she couldn't follow the movements of her own fist. The last thing she knew was that she hit the ground hard and nearly got knocked out. She lifted herself a little bit her eyes ripping open in disbelief.
"I did it.." She gasped, whipping of the blood with her sleeve. She smiled again as she saw Merrick approaching her with a blood covered lip. The Ghosts couldn't do anything else than chuckle at the not so innocent girl in the baggy sweater.
"You okay?.." Merrick asked, settling on the ground beside her. The crowed seemed to have lost interest in the two. Cady looked at the blood on her sleeve still not completely aware of what just happened. She actually managed to land a hit him. The man she admired so much; not only because he was a skilled Ghost.
"Cady…!" She wasn't even able to reopen her eyes before she was wrapped into a tight hug. Her eye sight back she saw those worried grey eyes starring into hers. "Are you okay?" She felt the grip on her shoulders tighten. The girl nodded a little bit puzzled than shifting her glance over to Merrick.
"How dare you…" The red haired woman barked at the Ghost. "Lay a hand on my daughter!"
"Daughter?!" Merrick thought starring back at the two, comparing their looks. The looked nothing alike except for the eye color. Merrick noticed Keegan and Hesh standing beside him as he got up again, not letting his eyes leave from the two women. Merrick even considered asking Mila if this was a joke but it would be more annoying that fun to do that.
"Your daughter challenged me.." The elder Ghost defended himself, not that this wasn't necessary at all, he didn't need to justify himself to anyone, especially not Mila.
"I didn't think you could sink that low, Merrick.." The woman declared her voice cold and punitive. "First your beat her up and than you lie…" It sounded more like a fact than a assumption from her mouth. Keegan was about to convince Mila that Merrick was telling the truth, but he got cut off by the third part of this drama triangle;
"Stop it! Both of you!" Cady ripped herself out of her mothers arms and stood between them arms stretched out. Merrick could have sworn he saw a spark of surprise in that grumpy witch's eyes.
"He is telling the truth!" Her eyes drop to the ground, while she half gritted her teeth.
"What?…" Mila blinked spitting the word like a melon seed past Cady over to Merrick. The other Ghosts just remained silent. Keegan didn't let his guard down, since he knew something bad could go down. Hesh on the other Hand held himself back, since he knew those situation too well from his family. The more he thought about it Merrick and Mila appeared more like an old couple than Ghosts.
"There you see, even your daughter is against you…" Merrick crossed his arms and waited for her reaction amused. The man was sure she would soon explode like a middle school science project instead, she inhaled deeply and exhaled again. He rose his brow skeptical.
"You know what?" She slightly shoved Cady aside and unintentionally came closer to him. "We will discuss this later.." She pinched the bridge of her nose. Cady's eyes meet with Keegan's then with Hesh's as if they were screaming with relief. Next she felt her wrist being seized and pulled away.
"Come on.." Mila drags her after her, but Cady refuses to get dragged away;
"I am perfectly fine…I can walk myself.." She growls and leaves Mila trotting after her, but the red haired Ghost just throws one more snarl at Merrick who just rolled his eyes.
"Was this really necessary.." Keegan facepalms himself. Merrick turns letting his frown collide with Keegan's."We have enough problems to deal with already, the last thing we need is you and her fighting your ridiculous war of roses.."
"Other than you, I'm not afraid to let my emotions show.." Merrick pointed his finger at Keegan. "But how can you understand…" Hesh swallowed for what was about to come. He had never seen Keegan and Merrick fight on such a personal level. "The only person you every cared about is unfortunately already six feet under.." Keegan's icy blue eyes went dull as his features darkened. He had this stare on that meant someone was about to get killed by him. The two seemed like two harts fighting over their territory, with the difference that they thought on a completely different level.
"I would recommend you shut up.." Keegan warned. The youngest Ghost could feel how the air heated up by every second.
"Why?.." Merrick crossed his arms. "Because I'm hurting your non existent feelings?" With that Keegan turned on his heel and left. Merrick let out a chuckle and disappeared in the opposite direction. Hesh settled on the stairs behind him and let out a sigh. Riley positioned himself beside his owner and panted; David looked up at the clouds and thought about what Logan might be doing right now or better said, what he has to endure right now.
Back at his quarter, he took note of a big black suitcase on his bed. It wasn't locked, so his curiosity drove him into opening it open. He smirked as he saw what was inside; it was a Honey Badger. He took the rifle in his hand and noticed that it's a much older model than he was used to seeing. The first evidence was that it seemed to be heavier and more edgy. He traced his fingers over the black metal, feeling the scars of the rifle. Not only the people controlling the weapon get scars but the weapons itself too.
The muzzle with the built in silencer seemed to have been upgraded alongside the rail, which had a hybrid sight on it. The trigger felt soft and easy to pull, but it didn't wobble around one bit. Hesh wondered who this rifle belonged to. After some more looking in the case he found a small note;
"Hello David!
You may wonder why there is a suitcase with an old honey badger on your bed. The answer is simple I saw you using one yourself and I figured why not give you this one. Take good care of it and it will take good care of your team and you. This rifle belonged to a very skilled Ghost years ago…
Also when you are ready meet me in the Briefing Room A3 at 1800 hours…
Mila.."
He put the note back in the case and examined the rifle more closely to get a clue which Ghost she meant. There was no evidence found at the rifle itself. From all the examination he forgot to look at his watch. It was already 1805…
A second later he was already out the door headed to the meeting point. He wondered what Mila had for him..
