Briefing with bitter flavor

He didn't know why, but the flickering of the control light of his helmet cam made him a lot more nervous than he already was. The young Ghost shifted himself around on the uncomfortable seat in the plane. The vibration of the plane engine made his guts feel like he had swallowed a cell phone and somebody is calling him. At least his feet where warm, thanks to his furry companion. The dog laid close to him snuggled to his legs as always. None could deny that the animal looked cute sleeping curled up in a ball, even though this was a highly trained military dog and also was a Ghost, what the patch on his vest indicated.
The plane's inside was filled by the soft snoring of the German Shepherd. The Ghost looked down on his hands; he was wearing thick gloves and around his wrist was an watch displaying a digital altimeter, which also showed his heart beat rate and the velocity they were traveling at. He swiped over the display with his gloved finger to have the current time showed to him; 0000. Above that the ETA said (Estimated Time of Arrival) about 15 minutes, plus/minus 5 minutes. The display appeared in the same blue light as the light on the cam. He let out a sigh and attempted to stretch out his legs but was reminded of the snoring weight his dog Riley had put on them. After stretching his arms he crossed them over his chest and sunk into a more comfortable position, as far as that was possible. His mind began to take a trip as his eye lids fell down. This mission felt different than all the other rescue missions he had been on, it reminded him a lot of the mission to save Ajax. The only difference was that they failed to save him and he swore to himself before stepping on this plane that he would bring his brother back. He had said that a lot in the past months but never made it a reality. An with every failure the feeling of powerlessness grew and consumed a larger part of his sanity. Failure always came with the last steps of the race. So close to reaching his goal, but still so far away from achieving it.
Why did he sway his brother into joining this suicide mission back then? Their anger of their dad's death didn't give them space to pause and think about their actions. Not even the words of Merrick or Keegan had been able to reach their ears dull with despair. Driven by the phantasy of sending Rorke back to hell, he crawled out off. With the entering of that train, they had put the final nail in their coffins. It had not been about winning the war anymore; it was about avenging their father, the last family they had. Nothing could have got in their way on their path to their personal vendetta. He had to admit the mission wasn't the best planned out one, since time didn't allow more planning. Its like a complicated physics calculation, one tiny valuable forgotten and the result could be fatal. In their case, well it turned out to be worst case. Even fighting with brute force wasn't enough to bring the Ghost Killer down. He new it was his fault that his brother had been taken away. If only once he had forced his broken body to move further, to grip his brothers hand, which had been desperately reaching for rescue. With every inch they had been parted forward the bond of their brotherhood got stretched closer to the ripping of it. How the screams of him ringed in his earns across the beach, breaking even through the bangs and explosions in the background. Those weren't screams of a fully grown Ghost, not even of a man, what he hear were the devastated screams of his baby brother.

ETA 00:07:34…

"You wanted to see me?" Hesh says tossing the piece of paper back to the woman standing by the counter, a sigh escaped her lips, while her hand caught the note she had written. Her eyes curiously follow the boys movement, who slams the heavy suitcase of the rifle he received from her onto the counter. The only reaction he gets out of her his a sharp hiss; how could he?
"And you can keep that old rusty thing." Mila huffs while her eyes lock on his. Even though she could slap him across the face right know, she rather felt like smiling at him warmly. The boy needed affection more than demanding words.

"You are late…" She grips his hand closing her eyes as she takes a deep breath. His eyes grew slightly wider than before from her sensitive touch. He had never had a superior like her; calling her different was an understatement at best. However he didn't want to someday to get caught in the crossfire between her, Merrick and Keegan. One the other hand he somehow had to play along with her, since she had the resources as much as the will to get his brother back. "You are not making it easy for me to help you."

The male Ghost glares at her as if he was about to say something, to his misfortune a bunch of people entered the room, wearing what looked like the standard issue uniform of the Ghosts here. A light navy blue long sleeved shirt, with patches of their respective battalions, blood types and again the skull pattern in the national flags of their home countries. A bunch of countries were advocated; France, Spain, Britain, Croatia and even Russia. Those who could took a seat on the benches and chairs around the room, while others made themselves comfortable on the counter. Some where too cool for both of those options and decided to stand in the corners or leaning against the walls.

"It is good to see you all." She starts briefly looking at every single one in the room. Then her expression changes as she sees someone is missing; two people to be precise. The soldiers look back at her; knowing their commander they assume it must be important when she personally briefs them for this mission.
"Is something wrong, Commander?" One British guy with an Scottish accent and a scar running across his eye asked crossing his arms, while the guy beside him roles his eyes annoyed.
"Can't believe they managed to survive a massacre out of sixty people but can't read a clock right." The guy who rolled his eyes mumbles in his Slavic accent. In the next moment the Commander slams her fist onto the counter beside one of the soldiers and looks at the guy with a frown.
"Get out!" She orders furiously pointing towards the door. Hesh swallows while watching the guy leave more annoyed than before. Looking back at the soldier he sees them all just sitting there not adding much to the sudden out burst of their Commander. Her reddish eye brows twitched on her slightly wrinkled forehead. She rubbed her face hastily to then click back into the situation.

"Sorry I am late…" No other than Keegan enters the room and a soldiers eyes in the far end of the room start to sparkle in excitement. Keegan could see him mouth a small ‚hi', to which the elder Ghosts replies with a nod, while his icy blue eyes have already fixed on Mila and Hesh.
"It's okay." Mila just says what earns her a stare from Hesh, now she was all calm and collected again. Was it to far fetched to assume she had some kind of anger issue? At least thats something she and Merrick shared. Why did she even set up this meeting, since she, Keegan and Merrick said it was far to dangerous, but Merrick hinted that Mila had loved to not think about the risks or she really has faith in her soldiers; one way or another she was ready to set their lives on the line to save his brother. He should have been happy, but he wasn't since if someone dies the blame would be on him. Mila supports herself by leaning onto the counter casually.
"Where is Merrick?" If that wasn't enough already, the fine commanding officer did feel like it was necessary to show up to this meeting. He better show up or hell will break lose. Keegan shrugs and locates himself beside Mila who stood beside Hesh. Apparently Keegan had no interest in baby sitting his commanding officer and you couldn't blame him,; Merrick was a full grown man and should be able to decide whats best for himself.

Mila cleared her throat to catch the soldiers attention, since some decided to check their phones for some other entertainment. Hesh looked though them only to wonder how they would react when they get filled in about the reason for this mission. Obviously they wouldn't be all that excited to set their lives on the line for some random boy who they have no business with at all. For them his brother only was another figure in the chess game of war. Who cares if he dies? He would only be another death for the record. Another blank space filled in the data base of the dead.
"Attention please." Mila says in full commander voice. Hesh had to smirk at the not tall grown woman who apparently was respected by every single soldier in the room. Even Keegan seemed to have some kind of deeply rooted respect for her. Hesh could see it in their eyes; how every single pair was fixed on her with absolute attention, be it blue, brown or green.
"As you might have heard the federation has abducted one of us." Mila paces around the room with the remote in her hand, switching on the TV and locking her arms behind her back before picking up her voice again.

"Logan Walker." She starts and a representative photograph from Logan which was taken when they had just passed Ranger-School, showing him wearing some desert pattern military pants with a shirt. His blond hair had already grown a bit longer to further set him apart from the other soldiers as a Ranger. On his face was this smile; he always had, so innocent but still strong willed; that was him. He had hardly seen any real battles at that time. Hesh felt sweat build up on his forehead as his eyes searched for reactions on the soldiers faces, but none of them changed; all stayed as stoic as they were expected to be. He couldn't blame them, because for them this was just another search and rescue mission, still they weren't aware of the threat yet that lured in the shadows of his brothers abduction.

"His rescue is our highest priority on this operation apart from gathering intel and possibly freeing other prisoners." The screen switched to a map of Bolivia, zooming into the area near the city of Riberalta, tilting slightly north to view a small triangle shaped island surrounded by the Rio Madre de Dios river.
"Thats our target location." Mila speaks and a small cross hovers above the island showing some pictures taken from surveillance drones. There seems to be a facility surrounded by a fence or wall the difference was hard to spot. One the pictures a bunch of soldiers always patrolling the parameter in pairs could be seen and some vehicles moving from the riparian towards the heart of the island, which was surrounded by thick jungle; a perfect natural mean of defense, while long straight tunnels reached across the river on each side of the island to what looked to be watch towers.

"The federation has kept this place classified ever since the war has began by making the outside world believe it was chemical wasteland. But let me tell you-" The pictures again change and show some other pictures taken displaying the inhuman methods that the federation uses to torture their prisoners, enemy soldiers, as much as civilians are treated alike. For the federation everyone was a source for information, even the most innocent looking kid they had collected off the streets of some of the American towns hit by Odin all those years ago. The United Nations were aware the Federation had been practicing brutal methods of torture for the gathering of information long enough. Mila even had requested the support of the UN for a rescue mission to save some of the UN peacekeepers that had been stationed near the border of New Mexico and suddenly had disappeared, shortly before the truce between the Federation and the US had broken apart, resulting in the usage of ODIN.

"There is always a bigger surprise that follows." Mila adds as her glance flies around the room. She inhales again deeply clearing her throat before carrying on, now looking again more concerned than serious. Hesh and Keegan for once knew why; they might indirectly cause The Ghost Killer to draw his attention to the other Ghosts. It was impossible to hide the fact that it would let his alarms bells ring more than once. More Ghosts meant for him, more people to let feel his impossible amount of thirst for revenge embodied in unstoppable cruelty.
"Im quite sure you have all heard of Gabriel T. Rorke." The red haired commander assumes and her assumption turns out to be the harsh truth as some draw scowls as their facial expression. Others mouths just gap open, their awe clearly visible in the expansion of their eyes. Mila sharply hisses for air and swallows again;
"Aka the Ghost Killer. " Her head lowered while she turned towards the opening door; none less than Stephen Daman the leader of the Ghost-Squad which busted Hesh and Co out of Mexico City, walked inside the room casually, wearing also the standard uniform with his gun attached to a holster on his upper leg. Mila blinked two times before he had moved besides Keegan and stopped there.
"He is the one responsible for the kidnapping of Walker." Hesh looked at Mila while she speaks wondering why she did address his brother by his last name; maybe just to maintain her professional face in front of the soldiers. Keegan shared a glance with Stephen who apparently could have already had an uncomfortable meeting with Rorke, according to the grimace he made.

"Rorke is a cruel man." Stephen clicked into the conversation, the words sliding rough over his tongue as an affect of his German accent. Mila put her hand on his shoulder while she stated
"There is a high possibility that Rorke will be there lurking in the shadows to kill every single one of you. Many Ghosts have already fallen victim to him, but their deaths shall not be in vain. That's why we are here and still fighting to crush him with a force so menacing that he will only express warnings to those that take his place. Yet again this force will strike, until none else dares to take up the title Ghost Killer again."

That's it guys for this chapter. I hope you enjoyed it. An as always leave a review, fav or follow (^3^) that means a lot to me (*-*)
