There you have it, chapter 12 of this tragety ;-;
Disfunctional
"I died and you never showed up to burry me…"
Those words still clouded Hesh's mind; numbing him to the point where the pain resonating from his broken arms, rips and hand seemed so far gone. Slowly opening his eyes, his head thumping from the amount of blood cycling around his brain, he recognized branches blocking out his view. The wooden arms got rocked back and forth by the force of the wind gently, whispering. Upon grasping reality again, Hesh saw Logan standing to him with his back. He wore a black mask. His baby brother turned around facing him with his cold brown eyed stare; the only thing visible from his face under that mask; that mask with the white skull mixed with sprays of blood; their dad's mask.
Logan seemed to have been radioing to his commander; while grabbing his rifle; a honey badger; the weapon of a Ghost. Who was this person? Could his baby brother hurt him like this? Hesh would internally shake his head , squeezing his eyes from the hurt; the hurt of reality kicking in. I warm tear mixed with blood build up in his eye; a tear of sorrow.
"I am in position; Permission to further proceed." Logan looked towards Hesh while pressing the button on his ear piece. Seconds later his head moved up and down slowly , eyes still fixed upon David.
"What about, Walker?" He came closer slowly holding a pistol in one hand, then loading it by pulling the hammer back slowly. Hesh's heart thumped harder by the slightest movement of Logan.
"Understood." Under the mask his face remained the same. Hesh starred at Logan's black tattooed eye; it represented the darkness his brother had clung to. Logan looks once more at Hesh before shouldering passed him. No more words had been exchanged; it was this connection between them, speaking without speaking; just like when they had been brothers; now though it was the glance warriors of opposing sides would express before a long and costly battle.
"Wait…" Hesh struggled trying to turn himself around, but it was useless, only a waste of his last strength. He heard the other man's steps stop, then another click sounded; the sound of a magazine snapping into a gun. Normally Hesh wouldn't have flinched or even thought about flinching at the sound;
"Lo-" Hesh stopped himself as he felt the cold barrel of a silencer pressed against the side of his head, while Logan's mask rubbed passed his cheek;
"You are too stupid to understand, aren't you?" Logan's sharp voice cut through the rustling trees. "Logan Walker was KIA." The cold metal pressed harder against his temple, shooting a sharp pain of warning through his head. With that the metal slid from his head and the fabric of Logan's mask brushed passed his cheek;
"No…no…THAT'S NOT TRUE ! " Hesh screams then everything turns silent; "It just can't be…"
The sole of Cady's white converse squeaked across the clean tiled floor. With with a hum she skipped down the hallway. headphones plugged in her ears, music turned up to the max. She didn't notice all the racket, the only thing she noticed were those catchy rock tunes busting through her ears. A slight breeze brushed against the back of her neck, even making the loose her of hair bun fly in the air. Looking down at the clip board the head nurse had put in her hands, Cady didn't have a clue into whom she would soon bump. As she realized what had happened, it had already been to late;
A semi-suppressed yelp came from the K9. Her eyes got wide, when her attention locked upon the animal which looked more stressed about what was happening behind the door it had placed itself in front of, then her stepping on his tail.
"Oh, I am so sorry." Cady said softly petting the dogs head and her glance landed on the dog's tag's;
„Riley." She added and the dog's ears peaked up at the sound of his name ringing in his ears. She tried her best to comfort the dog by petting him, forcing a somewhat lost smile across her features.
As she turned away from Riley, he stood up and kept on watching her every step. The dog had been waiting for hours already enduring over the pained screams and pleadings of his handler, but his brown eyes would not be able to peak inside the room. Even standing on his back legs didn't make him tall enough to see through the window of the door.
Before her hand could touch down on the solid wooden door, a tall black haired man appeared in front of her, leaving the room. There was a short silence between them as their eyes met; those blue eyes expressed the vigilance of an eagle. She had listened to some of the soldiers talking about this Ghost and he seemed even more menacing the second time she meeting him, Keegan. Overwhelmed by the man's frame she took a step back, swallowed and waited for him to step aside. Keegan moved his head left and his body followed into the same direction, the only thing she could make out were his clenched together fists paired with tense movements.
Making sure Riley would stay outside the room, Cady moved inside as silent as she could. Scanning her surroundings she didn't notice anyone in the room, except David Walker sitting on his bed. She stopped herself and took a moment; his body told her everything; brushes, cuts and broken bones, although from what she heard from Stephen, his injuries must go far beyond what meets the eye. His medical report only added up to her theory; he hadn't eaten ever since he had woken up, hardly drinks and hasn't spoken. The doctors had to force him to talk, what took hours; even their best psychologist had struggled to get him to speak.
"Ummm…" She looked up at him as she hung the clip board at the end of his bed. He wouldn't look up only turn his head slightly to his side towards the window.
"Do you need anything else?" She made sure though he didn't answer. He wasn't ignoring her either; he just seemed so for away; like in a trance. Meanwhile Riley got more impatient and stud tall only to find that his snout could actually reach the window of the door. His claws desperately scratched against the door.
She pressed down the door handle and found the K9 slipping inside the room through her legs and rushed over to the bed. Riley nudged Hesh whose Hand started to scratch the dog behind his hears.
"I met Logan…" Hesh started with a mumble as he led Riley jump half onto the bed. "…he is dead." Those words seemed darker then she liked. She didn't know if she should leave or just stay. Hesh kept on petting the dogs head who whimpered in sadness over Logan's "death". There is a short silence filling the room before Hesh broke down crying and sobbing as he holds Riley close. The truth tortured him; that's why he had to keep his eyes shot and march on as a blind man.
"This…guy is just using Logan's body…this…isn't my baby brother." He kept sobbing. It made her worry as he stopped sobbing and crying, just to fall silent, his mouth drawn into a straight line.
"I have to take him down." He starts to nod to himself then turned to Riley.
"Will you help me, Riley-Boy?" He asked with a slight smile and Riley wiggled with his tail, letting out a small bark.
"So our worst apprehensions became reality." Mila concluded glancing outside the window to see Merrick and Keegan move to towards the building; both of them were surely craving to blame her for the situation; for what had happened to David. Her hand clenches the silky fabric of the curtain; nails digging deep.
"Unfortunately." Stephen admitted shifting in the seat, then leaning forward, resting his elbows on his upper legs. With folded hands, he looked upon Mila.
"Do you think it's a good idea to tell them that we knew about Alpha?" Stephen carefully let every word pass down his tongue. Her shoulder long hair flew around her shortly before her slightly angered but hurt expression hit him.
"The deserve the truth." Mila's head uncontrollably lowered; knits building all over her face from the sheer thought of going behind their backs again; especially Merrick's. Knowing how much pain the truth brought along; she was well aware they would put the blame on her;
"Mila…" Stephen stood beside her putting her hand into his. Her grey blood shot eyes fixed on him; signs of tears evident in them; her free hand still tightly clenching the curtain. Her lips pressed together as the corners twitched up and down, the same trembling which came over her whole body.
"I didn't want this to happen…I…I thought." She started as she takes a deep breath pressing her head into his chest. "I thought I had everything under control." Stephen grew silent and wanted to say anything; Would it have been wise to put the blame on himself? Could he just shovel some of the pressing weight off her shoulders? No one had even seen the commander like this; broken on the brink of bursting out in tears. She always put the mask of the strong invisible leader on over her beautiful face, scarred of her past memories.
"Hey…" He says softly holding both her hands and she just can't bring herself to not put all her attention up to those deep amber eyes of his; "There are things…even you can't control, Commander." He explained to her cracking a small smile as his fingers softly wiped the tears away. Fascinated by the smile he forced, her features mirrored the same unsure mimic.
"Well hello there…" The only thing Mila needed to shy away from Stephen was the sound of Merrick's voice after he had obviously had an intense fight with Keegan along the way who stood a few feet in the back closer to the door.
"Did we interrupt you two?" Merrick asked in cocky voice crossing his arms leaning forward a bit with a raised eye brow. Mila turned her head slightly to the ground while Stephen stood tall in front of her, like a protective wall from whom all words just recoiled.
"Not really. No." Stephen shook his head in protest over the other Ghosts allegation. Merrick on the other hand didn't seem to be as startled by his demeanor as Stephen had wanted. I sizzling silence went from corner to corner of the hall back to the Ghosts. A nearly unhearable creek filled the room when Keegan leaned against the locked side of the wooden double winged door; arms crossed.
"You were Hesh's team leader." Merrick cycled around Stephen and then his glance landed on Mila who put on her usual face; emotionless but wide awake. As commander she has had too many of those talks; None of the sides would back down. Usually she would tell them both to describe their point of view on the problem and then find a solution, all parties could somehow live with.
"Number 1, of the unwritten rules of the Ghosts…" The Ghost looks at Stephen with his sharp hazel eyes while Stephen won't back down. Not seeing the mistake in his own actions. Mila slowly moved beside Keegan who just threw a brief glance at her; everything was clear to him; Mila had this stance; the stance she always had when she had words lingering around her heart she felt urgent to share with everyone, though most of the times her input wouldn't result in easing the tension but ignite the fire further.
"No Ghost let's one of their team mates on a lone wolf trip during a mission." Merrick added while his eyes found Mila who glanced back at him with mouth gaped open and eyes wide; Keegan thought just rolled his eyes then added;
"Is it really necessary to-" Mila stopped him by touching his shoulder and giving him a reassuring glance.
"It's not time to blame Stephen. If you have the need to blame someone; blame me." She stated moving in front of Merrick her face just a picture of someone who meant to be challenged. Merrick's eyes sparked slightly then his mouth formed a nearly unnoticeable smile; his crossed arms loosening. Mila opened her hands and closer her eyes before she added;
"We should focus on the last mission and on what exactly went wrong." Everyone nodded at her statement, Keegan moving forward and leaning against the desk beside Stephen careful to not drop the vase stacked with a blooming bouquet of narcissuses.
"Hesh went on a solo trip."
"Why do you think?"
"He even left his dog behind." Stephen added ending the uncontrolled throwing of questions and statements then Keegan pushed himself off the table standing between Mila and Merrick. The sniper touched his forehead while thinking back to the mission; after some seconds his eyes reopened turning towards Mila;
"Something must have alerted him."
"Really?" Merrick said crossing his arms then concluding. "Logan or however he is now, new Hesh would separate himself from the group; that's what Hesh always does when he checks on something."
"Then why didn't he just radio that something fishy is behind that tree line?" Stephen rubbed his chin then Keegan turned to face him. "He used to having Logan behind him." Keegan makes clear to everyone that it wasn't completely Hesh's fault; this had nothing to do with rational thinking; this was all about habits. The habits Elias had injected them ever since they were toddlers.
"They are two separate people but on the battlefield they can only function properly together." Keegan explained speaking from his own experience of having watched the Walker-Boys ever since the two had joined the military. Mila nodded and then turns towards the window seeing the sun already got cut by the mountain range in the distance. If what Keegan had explained is true; she had to keep a close eye on David. He would pose a threat not only to himself but also to his team on the battlefield;
"David needs to be suspended from duty." Mila declared then Merrick raises his eye brows then frowns turning towards Mila, looking like he had the same opinion though he wouldn't show any agreement with her, so he instead asked;
"Do you really think…" Merrick cleared his throat while Mila took a step back in defense. "That someone like Hesh, who was born a Ghost would stop before his mission is accomplished ?" As Mila stepped backwards her heels thumped down onto the carped then transitioning to clicking sounds. She then ripped her gaze off her toes;
"He will be off duty anyways for some time." Mila declared her gaze fixing on Stephen who nodded then said. "We will just extent his sick leave as long as possible." Merrick couldn't hold back the chuckle that resulted in a slightly amused laugh;
"But you are to blame if Hesh tears down the whole hospital to get on duty again." With this statement they all nodded and then Mila explained.
"I will have to supervise the preparations for the selection test." She turned her back on them then adding.
"We will set up a meeting with the other Ghost leaders on how to further proceed regarding this issue, tomorrow."
"You did well on the last mission, Adrian" Even Rorke's rough voice seemed to die down between the sounds of the green house they were walking through. The other man with the blond messy mane who had been addressed as Adrian showed his attention toward his superior with a brief glance; then being more caught up by the birds chirping in the trees.
"Thank you, Sir." Adrian said with a smile and rubbing the back of his head overwhelmed by having Rorke form a compliment which rarely happened; most soldiers just received taunt and sneer. Those who questioned the intentions and methods of the federation had to face consequences; some of them where executed, though most were kept alive to as Rorke would call it "Getting some treatment." What he actually meant were the methods used to brainwash as much as imprinting the soldiers to never disobey or even question orders.
Adrian himself never dared to make Rorke suspect any disloyal thoughts or desires, because he had sworn to always follow his superiors commands even if it meant giving his life for the motherland.
"I hope you are ready." Rorke grinned widely as he looked at Adrian black tattooed eye. "We are going on a hunt."
"I can't wait…"
OMFG, Rorke what did you do to my cinamon roll?! T_T
I don't know how you guys feel about this but Hesh seems to go nuts.
