Chapter 17
Step It Up Part 5
"What do you think Dr. Sparks wants to talk to me about?" Jason asked his teammates as he and the others walked into the lab.
Callum and Zoe shrugged in response. Both of them had been really quiet since the last battle. Especially Zoe.
Jason shrugged too and turned around to see Dr. Sparks standing in front of the three Rangers. The scientist had a very serious look on his face.
"Is there something wrong?" Callum asked him.
Dr. Sparks nodded. "Jason, I need to talk to you for a moment. It's urgent."
Jason lowered his eyebrows in confusion. "What did I do?"
"Just come with me," ordered Dr. Sparks, walking into the room. Jason and Callum exchanged confused glances while Zoe looked away, hoping that her shyness wasn't showing too much.
As soon as Jason was in Dr. Sparks' office, the scientist immediately closed the door, leacing Callum and Zoe standing there in awkward silence.
A few moments later, Zoe mustered the courage to speak. "Callum?"
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for saving me earlier."
Callum blushed. "Any time."
As they waited for Jason to come out, Callum opened his mouth to say something. But Zoe interrupted.
"I'm gonna try and contact Olivia," she said, heading out of the room.
"Yeah, good idea," Callum replied.
Zoe smiled and closed the door behind her. As soon as she was gone, Callum sighed and murmured to himself:
"So . . . close."
Where was she?
Alex glanced at his step-mom. She was examining shoes through a window. Checking to see that no one was looking, he pulled out his Yellow Energy Morpher. "Livvy? You there?"
No reply.
"Liv-"
"Alex, come over here! I want your opinion on these shoes!"
Alex groaned but ran over to Rachel. He was thinking that the sooner he got her distracted and the sooner he could head out and find his sister.
He was about to suggest something when suddenly through the mirror he caught sight of a turtle-like alien with a camera chasing thousands of citizens. The yellow ranger whipped around noticed that the turtle was now aiming the camera at him and Rachel!
"MOVE!"
Before the turtle could snap a picture, Alex managed to shove his step-mom out of the way just in time. The flash from the turtle's camera caused the window glass to shatter.
Rachel let out a shriek as she heard the sound of glass breaking and looked up to see the giant turtle. She shrieked again.
"Run!" Alex shouted before she could react. "Get outta here!"
"Okay! Stay close, will you?"
Alex shook his head. "I can't . . ." He looked around for an excuse and spotted two people trapped under a pile of rubble. "I gotta help those two!"
Rachel grabbed his arm. "Hurry, will you?"
She climbed to her feet and ran as fast as she could to the nearest building. As soon as he was sure no one was looking, Alex ran up to Tattle Turtle. "I'd put that camera down if I were you!"
"Oh, look! Another Ranger!" Tattle Turtle held up his camera. "Say 'cheese', Yellow!"
Alex was able to flip out of the way just in time and pulled out his Yellow Energy Morpher, relieved to get the oppurtunity to change out of his ridiculous outfit. "Finally, It's Morphin' Time! Spo-"
But Tattle Turtle managed to snap a picture of him before he could react. The flash was blinding and caused Alex to stumble over and drop his morpher. He rubbed away the light and went to grab it but Tattle Turtle charged at him and swiped a snapper hand at Alex who was forced to dodge away from Tattle Turtle and his Yellow Energy Morpher.
'Livvy, where are you?'
'These FlunkBots are not moving from here any time soon,' Olivia thought to herself. She glanced down at the hair clip on her lap then back up at the FlunkBots.
'What would Alex do?' she thought. 'That's easy. He'd try to find me. But then I'd be known as the "Puny Pink Ranger Who Always Has To Be Saved". I can NOT let that happen . . .'
An another idea sparked inside her and a mischievous grin came to her face.
"Hey!" she called, getting at the FlunkBots. The FlunkBots immediately glared at her, wondering why Olivia wanted their attention.
Olivia smirked. "You do realise that my teammates are looking for me, you know that?"
The FlunkBots exchanged glances and nodded, making strange noises as if to say "That is true."
Olivia raised her eyebrows. "And you do realise that they're coming for you?"
That caught the attention of the FlunkBots and they began to shift uncomfortably.
"If they find you," Olivia continued, growing more confident with each word she spoke. "If my teammates find you then they will not be happy. They will beat the scrap metal out of you. If I were you I'd be proper guards and head out to keep them out. Then all of this would have been pointless and you'll have no energy power . . ."
The FlunkBots nodded frantically, dumb enough to race off without thinking of their prisinor. They didn't even think of Olivia's Pink Energy Morpher that sat on the table opposite her.
Olivia smiled to herself and examined the rose hair clip on her lap. She wouldn't be able to reach it with her hands- the chains were too short. But she didn't just have hands. She yanked her hands around and wriggled her body around and grinned again- her plan was working.
The pink ranger kicked off one of her ridiculous pink shoes (relieved to finally get a chance to take at least one of them off) and positioned herself into a cross-legged position. She lifted up her leg and moved it over to the rose hair clip, catching a petal with her toes. Holding the hair clip with her toes, she edged her leg towards her mouth . . .
The hair clip slipped from her grip!
Fortunately it landed on the skirts of Olivia's pink dress. Olivia breathed out a sigh of relief. For once she was glad that Rachel had made her wear such a babyish outfit.
Olivia took hold of the hair clip in her toes again, this time in a tighter grip and edged it towards her mouth. This time it was successful and she took hold of the metal part with her teeth. Next, she stretched her arm over and her neck. The chain may have been short but not short enough to prevent her from taking hold of the hair clip from her teeth.
She bent down her hand, picking at the lock with the hair clip.
'Please fit, please fit . . .'
CLICK!
"YES!" Olivia shouted happily as the handcuff unlocked, freeing her hand. She turned over to free her other hand which also released itself from the cuffs. Delighted, Olivia threw away her hair clip, (reluctantly) put her shoe back on and raced over to the nearby table to retrieve her Pink Energy Morpher.
Then she stopped.
Why was her morpher glowing?
Olivia shook her head and grabbed it. That wasn't important. The thing that mattered most was that she found Alex and the others.
The pink ranger ran off, clutching her Pink Energy Morpher. She couldn't help feeling that there was some sort of power tingling in it though . . .
