Teacher's Pet
Chapter 50: Unexpected Guest
"I figured it out" Kanna exclaimed to Kagome that afternoon after cheer practice.
"Figured what out?" Kagome asked, toweling the sweat off her neck.
"I'll tell you when we get to Yash's." Kanna was still smiling.
They waited for Tsubasa and Inuyasha to get out of basketball practice and all got into Tsubasa's car. The four friends chatted about nothing, but Kagome couldn't help but wonder what her best friend had to tell them.
"Ok Kan. Spill." Kagome tossed her backpack onto the floor and plopped down in Tsubasa's lap.
"What's your biggest weakness and what's Naraku's biggest strength?" Kanna asked, looking at her clueless friends. "Secrets! He uses your secrets against you!"
"Holy shit you're right! If Sango knew everything from the beginning, she would've never gotten mad!" Kagome bit her lip. "I told her that I would call her when I was ready to talk."
"Do you think you should bring her over here?" Inuyasha asked.
Kagome shook her head. "I think we should go to your place, Tsubasa."
Tsubasa nodded, then wore a confused expression on his face. "Um…are you gonna tell her everything?"
Kagome chuckled. "Let's see how she takes the crazy stuff first, before we hit her with something normal."
They all went upstairs to Tsubasa's condo and Kagome waited nervously for Sango to show up. When she finally knocked on the door, Kagome's mouth went dry.
"Just start from the beginning. And tell her the truth." Inuyasha said calmly. "It's the only way to keep her safe."
Kagome nodded and opened the door. "We can talk in Tsubasa's room."
The two young women went to Tsubasa's room and Kagome placed a sound barrier around the room and launched into the tale of a war that started before her time, and how she came to be involved.
"So…you and Kagome, huh?" Inuyasha's voice broke through the silence.
Tsubasa looked at him through narrowed eyes. "Yeah. Why?"
Inuyasha shrugged. "I just don't think it'll last very long. This is a tough time for Kags. And sometimes people make mistakes when they're stressed out."
"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" Tsubasa growled.
Inuyasha absently picked at his claws. "Oh nothing."
Tsubasa decided to ignore Inuyasha. He knew that Kagome hadn't made a mistake. They were perfect together. Inuyasha was just pissed that he wasn't with Kagome himself. Of course Tsubasa had picked up on the vibe that Inuyasha had had feelings for Kagome, even if he didn't try and act on them anymore. The three of them sat in silence for the next hour, until the barrier dropped and the door opened.
The two best friends emerge from the room, arms linked and their eyes puffy from crying.
"So when do we kill this son of a bitch?" She looked Inuyasha and Kanna in the eyes, then finally turned to Tsubasa.
Inuyasha smiled and hugged Sango. "I knew we could count on you."
Sango turned to Kagome. "I'm sorry." She looked at Kanna. "And you! You've got a mouth on you."
Kanna smiled. "I like people to see the truth." She got up to hug Sango.
"Yeah. You really talked some sense into me." Sango wrapped her arms around the smaller girl. "I'm so sorry."
"You're with us now. That's what really matters." Kanna said gently.
"I am. I'm with you guys until we figure this out." Sango nodded.
"Sang, what did you tell Miroku?" Kagome asked cautiously.
Sango gave a weak smile. "I just told him that I was really pissed at you for lying. I hadn't told him about you and Mr. Taisho." She paused. "Speaking of Mr. Taisho," she looked at Tsubasa, "how do you feel about Kags dating our teacher?"
Tsubasa shrugged. "She's not with him now and that's all that matters." He stood and walked to Kagome, kissing the top of her head.
Kagome leaned into him and looked around the room and her heart couldn't be happier. She finally had her best friend back and she had a group of people with her that would fight with her.
"So do we have a plan?" Sango asked.
Kagome shook her head. "Not really. We've kind of been making it up as we go. But I know one thing, we have to stay mad at each other. It won't work otherwise. Naraku has to think he still has the upper hand."
Sango nodded. "Ok, I can do that. What else?"
"Well we need to figure out if we should tell the others. If Ayame finds out from anyone else, she'll probably tell the whole school." Kagome said.
"Koga would just be jealous." Kanna noted. "But I think he's harmless."
"Mirkou would want to make sure you're gonna be ok." Inuyasha added.
"That still doesn't tell us a plan, though." Kagome sighed and started chewing her lip.
Tsubasa rubbed the tops of her arms. "It's going to be ok. We will figure something out. I promise."
"Anyway, I've gotta get out of here. Miroku needs help with his homework." Sango announced, preparing to leave. She looked her best friend in the eyes. "I love you, Kags. And I'm very sorry."
Tears welled in Kagome's eyes and she hugged her best friend. "I love yoo, too, Sang." Sango hugged everyone in the room then left.
"I've gotta head downstairs to do my own homework." Inuyasha sighed and rolled his eyes. "Catch ya later."
"I'm leaving, too. I have to help the new American exchange student with her Japanese." Kanna said.
"Oh yeah! I forgot I encouraged you to sign up for that. What's her name?" Kagome asked.
"Sara, I think. She's really shy." Kanna grabbed her backpack.
"Like someone else I know." Kagome smiled and walked her friends to the door. "See you guys later."
"So…now that we're all alone…" Tsubasa's voice got deeper.
"We should do our homework. Just because all of this shit is happening doesn't mean I can let my grades slip." Kagome nudged him.
Sesshomaru was fed up. He needed to talk to Kagome, but that damned bear was attached to her everywhere she went. It had only been a couple of days, but the two of them seemed like they'd been a couple for years. And it disgusted him.
As he was thinking that, his little brother walked into their home. "Yo. 'Sup Fluff?"
"What is up is how could you let my miko be with that bear?!" Sesshomaru growled.
"Hey, what Kags does is her choice. You know that no one can control her." Inuyasha shrugged.
"You know that I'd planned to get her back." Sesshomaru was angry.
"Yeah, and I planned on helping you with that. But then I started thinking. I started asking myself what Kagome would do, what she would say, how she would react. And then I realized what you should've done from the beginning. Be honest. You should've told her what was happening that night you came home and she asked you what was going on." Inuyasha told his brother.
"I told her that I never slept with anyone else!"
Inuyasha nodded. "You did. Then you shoved your tongue down her throat and Tsubasa came in the room. So she probably forgot what you said. There's a lot going on, Sesshomaru. You know that. If you wanna talk to Kags, then make it happen."
Sesshomarru sighed. He knew that his little brother was right. He shouldn't have told Kagome in that moment that he didn't cheat on her, he should've told her the truth from the very beginning. His head snapped to the door when he smelled a familiar person, and he growled.
"Are you serious?" Inuyasha sighed. "This bitch?"
Sesshomaru walked to the door and opened it. "Hello." He smiled at the female demon standing on the other side.
In Tsubasa's room, Kagome bit her lip as she worked through a math problem. Tsubasa was doing his homework, too, and paused just to stare at Kagome. After a while, Kagome noticed his staring. "Finish your homework." She playfully poked him with her pencil.
"You're beautiful, Kagome. You really are." Tsubasa said. He leaned in and placed a kiss to her temple.
Kagome ducked her head and blushed. "Thank you." She looked at the door when she felt a strong female aura enter the building. "I have no idea who that is but it feels like trouble. And she's going in Yash's place." Kagome hopped out of the bed and ran out of Tsubasa's condo and down the stairs with Tsubasa hot on her heels. She burst through the door, "Yash! Is everything ok?" She was greeted with the sight of an ethereal looking demoness with long silver hair. She was beautiful. Her small features reminded Kagome of the demon standing next to her.
"Well, Sesshomaru, it seems that you've acquired your father's weakness for human bitches." She looked down her small nose at Kagome.
"Excuse me?" Kagome took a step closer to the woman and then she smelled it. She smelled her perfume. "Your…your perfume…" Kagome whispered, then looked at Sesshomaru. "I did not sleep with Kagura. I did not sleep with anyone. This Sesshomaru would never cheat on you." Those words played in Kagome's head. She finally heard them.
Sesshomaru watched Kagome's mind work through her eyes and he knew that she finally knew the truth. "Miko, this is my mother. Setsuki."
Kagome shook herself out of the trance she was in. "Hello. I am Kagome."
"I already know your name, girl. My son has told me about you." She sucked her teeth. "Really, Sesshomaru, I thought you better than your father."
Kagome narrowed her eyes, remembering that both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru had mentioned several times that Sesshomaru's mother hated humans. So that's what they'd been talking about when they'd said the mysterious 'she' hated Kagome. This was the 'she' they'd been referring to. Kagome turned to Sesshomaru. "Why…didn't you tell me?"
"We will speak later." Sesshomaru said with finality and was pleased when Kagome nodded.
From his place behind Kagome, Tsubasa was confused. This demoness was Sesshomaru's mother, but what he didn't understand was the conversation happening between Kagome and their history teacher.
Inuyasha came downstairs, obviously happy to see Kagome. "Hey! You wanna stay for dinner?" He desperately needed Kagome to stay because he couldn't have dinner with Sesshomaru and Setsuki. He'd done that growing up, just adding his father into the mix, and it was awful. The demoness was rude and condescending and did everything in her power to belittle Inuyasha.
"Sure." She turned to Tsubasa. "You wanna stay?"
Tsubasa shook his head. There was a lot of tension in the room and he didn't feel like being a part of it. "Just come back up when you're done." He kissed Kagome then left.
"She's dating the bear?" Setsuki rolled her eyes. "Pathetic."
Kagome opened her mouth to respond, but Inuyasha interrupted her. "So, what should we go get for dinner?"
"You don't have servants?" Setsuki was genuinely surprised.
"No, mother." Sesshomaru replied, obviously bored with his mother.
"Well Kags and I will cook!" Inuyasha offered.
"I'd rather die." Kagome mumbled under her breath, then sighed when Inuyasha looked at her, his eyes begging her to do this for him. "Sure." She said through clenched teeth. The two of them walked into the kitchen and Kagome rounded on Inuyasha. "Why didn't you tell me?!" She hissed.
"We didn't even know she was stopping by." Inuyasha rummaged through the fridge.
"That's not what I'm talking about, you idiot! Why didn't you tell me that it was her! Not Kagura!" Kagome was upset.
Inuyasha sighed. "Honestly, I'd planned on it. But I knew that it needed to come from him. Then things started happening so fast, it kind of just took a backseat."
"Took a backseat?! Inuyasha I-" Kagome paused, then put a sound barrier around the kitchen. "I never stopped loving him! I never would've been with Tsubasa had I known that it was his mother!"
"Calm down. It's not that big a deal. Just talk to Sesshomaru tonight and break up with Tsubasa. Then you two can get back together. Simple." Inuyasha shrugged.
"Are you out of your fucking mind?! It's never 'simple'! I like Tsubasa, I really really do and I don't want to breakup with him!" Kagome was furious.
"But you just said you never stopped loving Sesshomaru." Inuyasha was confused.
Kagome sighed and shook her head. "I don't know why I even talk to you." They prepared dinner in silence, Kagome's mind racing the entire time.
