Teacher's Pet

Chapter 53: Hatching Plans

Sesshomaru couldn't describe the feeling coursing through him. All that day he had been nervous, knowing that Kagome was going to break up with that damned bear. Or at least that was what she'd said she was going to do. But what if she changed her mind? What if she decided that she didn't want to hurt the bear's feelings? His miko was kind like that. No, he was sure that she would break up with the bear. It wasn't like she loved the whelp or anything. She was in love with him.

The day seemed to pass slowly for Sesshomaru, but finally it was over. He went home, hoping that Kagome would be there, waiting for him. But she wasn't. Neither was his half-brother nor their quiet, void demon friend.

Sesshomaru busied himself with straightening up his home, then began grading the tests he'd given the previous week when he was disturbed by a knock on the door. His senses told him that it was the damned bear, but why the hell was he there? Sesshomaru rose to open the door and was struck in the jaw. The punch only made purchase because it caught him off guard. Sesshomaru's eyes bled red and he grabbed the bear by the neck, pinning him against the wall. "Just what the hell is your problem?!"

"You!" Tsubasa hissed, clawing at Sesshomaru's hand around his throat. "Kagome broke up with me and it's your fault!" He managed to choke out.

Sesshomaru snarled and threw Tsubasa to the ground. "I told you from the beginning that the miko was mine. You shouldn't have gotten in the way."

Tsubasa gasped for air from his place on Sesshomaru's floor. "It's only a matter of time before she realizes her mistake."

"Her only mistake was dating you, cub. But she has returned to my side, where she belongs. Now leave my home at once." Sesshomaru growled, forcing his youki outwards and pushing Tsubasa out of his home, and closing the door after him. The nerve of that bear!

Still feeling the massive hand of Sessomaru around his throat and the burn of the youki on his skin, Tsubasa made his way to the elevator. How could she have broken up with him?! They were perfect together! He would win her back. He was sure of it.

Instead of dwelling on his unwanted visitor, Sesshomaru went back to grading papers. He worked to contain his beast, because that part of him wanted blood. But at least Kagome had broken up with the bear. That thought was comforting, though he was sure she was in a lot of pain. Sesshomaru knew that Kagome hadn't wanted to hurt the bear, but at this point, Sesshomaru felt that he deserved it.

Kagome finished off the ice cream Kanna had brought her and sighed.

"Are you feeling any better?" Kanna asked.

Kagome shrugged. "Not really. I mean hurting Tsubasa really sucked, but I know that it was the right thing to do. I couldn't stay with him when my heart belongs to Sesshomaru."

"So why aren't you over there right now?" Inuyasha was curious.

Kagome gave a small smile. "Because as much as I want to be, I can't. It's not fair to Sesshomaru, it's not fair to Tsubasa, but most importantly, it's not fair to me. I can't allow myself to hop from Tsubasa's arms to Sesshomaru's."

Inuyasha was confused. If it were up to him, he'd be with the woman he loved, damn who he'd just been with.

"It's easier for guys," Kanna said, reading his thoughts. "Guys aren't labeled as 'whores' or 'sluts'."

Kagome nodded. "You all can just hop from bed to bed and everyone thinks it's ok. Hell, guys are even prided on the amount of women they can get into their beds. It's a double standard, but it's the society we live in." Kagome shrugged.

The three friends completed their homework in between conversation, and when Sota came home, he and Inuyasha went to the backyard to play soccer while Kagome and Kanna made dinner.

"Hey Kanna, I need your help with my Algebra homework." Sota admitted after they'd eaten dinner.

Kagome frowned. "I was gonna help you with that."

"Yeah, but you're mean when I get problems wrong. Kanna doesn't hit me on the head." Sota clipped back.

Kagome rolled her eyes. "So, you get problems wrong because you're lazy, not because you're not good at math. That's why I thump you."

"Well either way, Kanna doesn't do it. So I want her to help me." Sota stuck his tongue out.

"Now that I know that's why you want me to help you, I'm not helping you anymore." Kanna moved to cleared the table.

"Crap." Sota mumbled under his breath.

After Kagome was done helping Sota, she went back into her room to find Inuyasha and Kanna watching television. "Are you sleeping in here or in your room?"

"It's not my room. It's one of your guest rooms." Kanna corrected.

Kagome rolled her eyes. "It's your room. No one else sleeps in there." They'd long since moved Kanna's belongings into one of the spare rooms in Kagome's house. Even Inuyasha had his designated room in the house. "Whatever. Sleepover in my room then."

The next morning at school, Tsubasa stopped by Kagome's locker. "Good morning."

"Um…good morning, Tsubasa." Kagome tucked her hair behind her ear. This was awkward.

"I was wondering if you wanted to come over today after school so we could talk." Tsubasa held his breath as he waited for an answer.

"Talk about what?" Kagome was sure he had some questions, but she was also sure that she didn't want to answer them.

"Us, of course." Tsubasa gave a gentle smile.

"I have double practice today, so what if we go to the park during lunch to talk?" Kagome figured that would be safe enough. They wouldn't be by themselves since she was sure that the elementary children would be out for recess.

"I'll take what I can get. See you then." He leaned in to place a kiss on her lips, but thought better of it at the last second and pecked her on the cheek.

"What was that about?" Kanna said when Tsubasa walked away.

"He said he wants to talk." Kagome shrugged.

"Are you going to talk to him?"

"Yeah. I owe him that much, at least. I didn't really give him an explanation yesterday." Kagome sighed. She was stressed enough without having to deal with her love life.

In Sesshomaru's class, Kagome made sure not to make eye contact with Tsubasa, and not make too much with Sesshomaru. She didn't even linger after the bell had dismissed them, like she'd done at the beginning of the year.

"Wish me luck." She whispered to Kanna as Tsubasa walked towards them.

The walk to the park was silent and awkward. When they reached their destination, Kagome continued walking until she got to the swings. She sat on one, lazily pushing herself forward.

"So…I think I know why you broke up with me." Tsubasa finally said.

"Oh?" Kagome turned to face him.

"Mr. Taisho. He lied to you again. And got you to forgive him. I know that's what happened. You don't have to explain it." Tsubasa told her.

"Tsubasa, no." Kagome shook her head. "That's not true. He never cheated on me in the first place. It was all a misunderstanding. It's nothing like you're thinking it is."

"Kagome, sweet, sweet Kagome." Tsubasa kneeled by Kagome and stroked her hair. "You're too trusting for your own good. He lied to you."

Kagome didn't have a chance to speak because Tsubasa continued talking.

"I know how I can get you back, though. I will help you defeat Naraku and then you will love me again." Tsubasa exclaimed.

Kagome sighed. She looked up in the sky, then looked back at the bear demon she cared about. "Tsu, look. You're a great guy. You deserve nothing but happiness. And I'm so sorry that I dragged you into the mess that is my life. I can't give you any of your time back, but I can wish that you find your peace and happiness. But if you think you can win me back, then I don't think we can even be friends."

Tsubasa blinked a few times and watched as Kagome stood up and walked away. He knew what he had to do. And sure, it would hurt Kagome later, but she would forgive him. She loved him, after all, and not that damned dog demon. He pulled out his phone and tapped on the screen for a few moments. After a while, his phone chimed and he smiled. Yes, it would hurt the little miko, but it was worth it to see her free of the dog.

Back at school, Kagome ran into Sango in the hallway. Sango could tell that something was weighing on her best friend, but remembered that she couldn't ask her about it. Sango, still playing to the role that she hated Kagome, rudely bumped into her shoulder when they passed each other.

"Watch where you're going." Sango sneered.

Kagome scoffed. "Shutup." She flipped her hair, smacking Sango in the face. She was glad that they'd decided to keep this up, because there was no telling what Naraku was planning.

"How was your talk?" Inuyasha asked on the way to the next class.

"Weird." Kagome was walking in between Kanna and Inuyasha. "It was really weird. He said that he's gonna prove Sess lied to me." Kagome shook her head. She didn't understand.

"But you do know that he wasn't lying, right? I mean he told me everything a while ago." Inuyasha said.

"Yeah. I know." Kagome sighed. "I'm just ready to go home."

Tsubasa didn't come back to school the rest of the day and of course Kagome noticed. She only hoped he wasn't up to anything stupid. On the way to Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's condo, she thought to stop by Tsubasa's place, but Kanna told her that it would be a bad idea.

"You're right. I just don't like not knowing what he's up to." Kagome said as they entered the front door. Waiting for her on the living room table were four heart shaped boxes of chocolates, with a bright orange "1/2 OFF" sticker, three of her favorite horror movies, and she knew that if she checked the freezer, an entire gallon of cookies and cream ice cream would be there. "He really does know me." Kagome smiled, looking at the movies. There was Venom, Friday, the 13th, and The Conjuring.

"You like Friday, the 13th?" Kanna asked.

"She only wants to drool over Jared Padalecki." Inuyasha snorted and rolled his eyes.

"That man is six feet and four inches worth of muscle and deliciousness." Kagome said with a smile.

"I am taller than he is. And more muscular." Sesshomaru came down the stairs and said.

"Oh poor Sessy. He's jeawous." Kagome said in a baby voice, causing her friends to laugh at her antics.

"We will not be watching that movie." Sesshomaru confirmed.

Kagome shrugged. "That's fine. I'll just binge watch Supernatural when I get home."

Sesshomaru refrained from rolling his eyes while Kagome grabbed a box of chocolate and plopped down on the couch. She tossed a piece to Inuyasha and she and Kanna clapped hen he caught it in his mouth. That then became the game between the four of them, seeing who could toss the candy the highest and catch it. Sesshomaru and Inuyasha were the winners, Kagome ended up with chocolate in her hair and behind the couch. Kanna got hit in the eye with chocolate and on her forehead.

Kanna and Inuyasha retreated to his room to do homework, leaving Kagome and Sesshomaru downstairs.

"I wonder when those two are gonna realize they like each other." Kagome said absently, looking up the stairs after two of her best friends.

"Who knows. I think they temper each other nicely, though." Sesshomaru admitted.

Kagome nodded and smiled. "Yash actually said the same thing about us one day. In his own little way. He said I can loosen you up. And he's right. I don't think you would've played a game like that before you met me." Kagome tucked her legs under her and turned to Sesshomaru with her arm leaning on the back of the couch and her head resting on her fist.

"Hn. You are most certainly correct. Then again, I have never had someone so intent on stealing the woman I love, before I met you." He told her.

"You've never loved anyone before me, remember?" Kagome countered with a small smile.

"And I will love no other." He said softly, leaning to kiss her forehead.

Kagome felt tears well in her eyes. "I'm so sorry, Sesshou. I should've believed you from the start."

Sesshomaru shook his head and held her face between her hands. "No, I should have never doubted you. I love you, my little miko, and I trust you."

Kagome closed her eyes and let her tears fall. There was so much going on in their lives, but Sesshomaru's love for rang true in her ears, but more importantly, in her heart. She felt Sesshomaru gently place his lips on hers and she sighed. She'd missed kissing him, she'd missed everything about the demon that was in front of her. Sesshomaru pulled back and put his forehead on hers. He gathered her into his arms and took her upstairs and laid on his back with her head on his chest. The once demon Lord of the West stroked Kagome's hair and closed his eyes, simply listening to her breathing and her heartbeat. He loved her. Without a shadow of a doubt. The spider haynou would die before he took her, and Sesshomaru would make sure he died this time. Sesshomaru had finally found someone to call his own, and he would not let her go for anything in the world. Damn the consequences.

A few floors above them, Tsubasa was seething. Of course he'd smelled Kagome as soon as she entered the building. He took a few deep breaths to calm himself. Soon. Soon. She would be his again.
