Chapter 56: Naraku's Heart

"Did he just say Daddy?" Kagome turned to Kanna, who had tears in her eyes.

"Oh, she never told you? Yes, I'm her father. Her mother and I had her years ago. I'm assuming that since she didn't tell you I was her father, she didn't tell you what happened to her mother, either?" Naraku smiled at the look of discomfort on Kanna's face. "Litte Kanna here, has an affinity for snow, as I'm sure you've learned. But that started out as fire. She loved setting fires when she was younger. And with her demonic abilities, they could never trace where the fires were coming from."

"Stop it!" Kanna hissed.

"Her mother, a beautiful woman who matched me perfectly in every way, didn't take too kindly to Kanna setting things on fire around the house. So she would punish her, as would I. One day, little Kanna got fed up and set fire to the house. After incapacitating her mother, so she was burned alive." Naraku finished his story.

"That's not true! You know it!" Kanna screamed. "I didn't know she was home!" Kanna broke down and cried.

"The only reason she didn't go to jail is because I kept her out of it. Then she became my little killing machine. She set anything I told her to on fire. She's killed women and children. She's quite a little devil." Naraku said.

Kagome held her best friend to her side and scowled at Naraku. "Anyone that was a match for you probably deserved to die anyway, you disgusting scum. And you forced her to kill all of those people! Now where is my brother?!"

Naraku clapped twice and Hakudoshi came from around a corner with his hand on Sota's shoulder.

"Kagome!" Sota called, trying to run to his sister, but the grip on his shoulder tightened, and forced him to fall on the ground.

"Sota!" Kagome called. "Leave him alone! He has nothing to do with any of this!"

"On the contrary. He was a valuable tool in getting you here. See, I knew that your friends would be better protected than your precious little brother. Which made him an easy target." Naraku smirked.

"I'm so sorry, So. I'm sorry." Tears streamed down her face as she looked at her brother struggle to get up.

"You came, Kags. Just like I knew you would. When we get out of here, that's all that matters." Sota gave a weak smile.

"You bet, kiddo."

"It is cute that you think you will leave here with her, boy. No, your sister will be mine after today." Naraku looked at his watch. Where the hell was Kagura? He was sure that she would beat the miko and her friends there, but she was nowhere to be found.

"Waiting for someone?" Kagome smirked.

Naraku narrowed his eyes. "It matters not if she shows up. This can be completed without her."

Kagome helped Kanna to stand. "Are you okay?"

"I'm sorry, Kagome. I'm sorry that I never told you." Kanna cried.

"It doesn't matter. It's your business. That doesn't excuse anything that he's done. I don't see you any differently, do you understand that?" She looked Kanna in her eyes. "I trust you, okay?"

Kanna nodded, once again thinking that she didn't deserve a friend like Kagome. She didn't pay attention to the way Kagome's eyes flashed purple, but she did feel a sudden warmth take over her.

"Hm…you seem to make a good friend for her. Perhaps I won't kill her. I'll let you keep her as a pet." Naraku deduced.

"You're one sick fuck, you know that?" Inuyasha said, stepping to stand in front of Kanna and Kagome.

"Begone, pup. You are not needed. You and your brother will be taken care of soon enough." Naraku reached behind him and grabbed a cup. "Drink this, miko."

"Hell no." Kagome spat.

"Drink it, or he kills your brother." He looked at Hakudoshi, who had his claws at Sota's neck.

Kagome stepped up to Naraku and snatched the cup out of his hand, downing the contents quickly. From the smell, she already knew what it was. It was a potion to keep her miko powers dormant for a while, and that was when she figured out Naraku's plan. "You're going to mate me, aren't you?"

Naraku smiled. "Your intelligence is incredibly attractive."

"What the fuck? Mate you? For what?" Inuyasha frowned.

"Because Kagome is the reincarnation of a very powerful miko. One that I have faced before. She wounded me greatly, but in the end, I triumphed. The dark magic lying within Kagome calls to me, as well. I will be the most powerful demon there is, with both access and immunity to Kagome's powers. Only one more powerful than her can hurt me." Naraku calmly explained.

Kagome grunted against the pain of the potion taking its toll on her body. In the corner of the room, she saw what looked to be an empty space flicker briefly, like it was a mirage. She thought nothing of it and looked back at Naraku with a frown.

"Before your powers are gone, my love, I need you to do me a favor." Naraku pulled a gun out of the waistband of his pants. "Place your hands on this." He gave the gun to Kagome. She tried to fight him, but Naraku stood behind her and made her aim towards the door. Sesshomaru walked in, in all his ethereal glory and Naraku squeezed Kagome's hand to make her squeeze the trigger. The bullet had the telltale pink trail, so she knew that he'd forced her miko energy behind the bullet to make it more potent.

"NO!" Kagome screamed, but Naraku forced her to fire another shot at Inuyasha. Kagome watched as the Taisho brothers both hit the ground. Kagome struggled in Naraku's grasp, ripping herself free and running to both of them. They were both on the ground, bleeding from the wound where the bullet ripped through their chest. Kagome tried her best to heal them, but couldn't make her powers work. She held her hands above Sesshomaru's chest, but they glowed a faint pink and they didn't heal Sesshomaru like they were supposed to. Both Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's heartbeats were weak and Kagome knew that they wouldn't make it without being healed, or without medical attention. Kagome looked at Kanna again. "I trust you, Kan, okay?" Kanna nodded, confused about what Kagome was saying. Kagome lightly touched Kanna's shoulder. "Watch over them, please?"

Kanna moved to stand by Sesshomaru and Inuyasha and watched as Kagome walked to Naraku. Just what the hell was her friend up to?

"Sota, go stand by Kanna." Kagome directed.

"Not so fast, little miko. Are you going to give me what I want?" Naraku asked.

Kagome looked at him, her eyes and face suddenly so old. "What choice to I have?"

Naraku nodded at Hakudoshi and nodded. "I'm glad that you have finally come to your senses."

Kagome scoffed. Her brother came to hug her and she placed a kiss on her forehead. "Hey, you've gotta do everything with Kan that you would normally do with me, okay?"

"But Kagome-" Sota protested. He didn't want to lose his sister, the only family member he had left that he was sure loved him.

"No, So. Listen. You've gotta do everything. From watching all of our favorite movies, eating out favorite ice cream. And playing our favorite game. Like the one that we'd play with Dad when we traded places with each other." Kagome's heart smiled when the she saw the light of recognition in Sota's eyes.

"You got it, Kags."

"You're the best, Hotaru." Kagome hugged him close, giving him her strength to do what he needed to do. Sota sniffed and walked to Kanna and began talking very quietly as soon as Kagome started talking to Naraku. "Rules. I don't want Hakudoshi anywhere near me. Or Kanna. Or anyone that I know."

"Deal." Naraku said with a nod. His eyes flicked to Kanna and Sota, who were holding each other's hands. What the hell were they doing?

"You are going to leave everyone alone. Don't ever come for my brother, or any of my loved ones again." Kagome pressed, trying to distract him from Kanna and her little brother.

"Fine." Naraku was actually getting what he wanted. Then again, he shouldn't be surprised. This had been a long time coming.

"You're going to admit that you tried to rape me." Kagome said.

"What does that matter?" Naraku asked.

"Because I want you to look me in the eyes and admit that you tried to rape me." Kagome demanded.

"Fine. I tried to rape you in my classroom months ago." Naraku rolled his eyes. He didn't get the point of that.

"And finally, I'm calling an ambulance for Inuyasha and Sesshomaru. They will not die in here." Kagome said firmly.

"That I cannot grant you, little miko. They will die here. The line of Taisho will end this day." Naraku said. "I know that their father will not try to have anymore pups, after losing both his heir and his silly little mistake." He smirked at that.

"Why? Why do you hate Sesshomaru so much? What did he ever do to you?" Kagome asked.

"He has had everything that I have ever wanted." Naraku said simply.

"Because he worked for it, you jackass. You expect everything to be handed to you, but Sesshomaru works his ass off for everything he has." Kagome hissed at him.

Naraku shrugged. "It matters not. He is on his final breaths. I wish to mate you, now. So that with his dying eyes, he can see that you are no longer his. I want him to see that he has lost."

Kagome closed her eyes and took a deep calming breath. "You are truly disgusting. And everything that you touch will fail."

"What makes you so sure of this?" Naraku asked with a smile on his face.

"Because you don't have support like I do. So, go!" Kagome yelled and darted out of Naraku's grasp.

"Now Kanna!" Sota said and Kanna poured the energy that Kagome had given her into Sota, who in turn, healed Sesshomaru and Inuyasha.

"What is happening?" Naraku was confused as he heard Inuyasha and Sesshamaru's heartbeats get stronger. "Hakudoshi! Kill them all!" Naraku reached for Kagome but she gave him a swift kick in the shin and ran to her little brother and Kanna, getting there before Hakudoshi. She touched Sota's shoulder and all of her power was thrust back into her body. She used her energy to put up a barrier around her friends and Sesshomaru and Inuyasha stood up on wobbly legs. Kagome sent a little more of her energy to Sesshomaru, knowing that he was going to be the one to fight Naraku.

A growl was ripped from Sesshomaru's throat and he charged at Naraku, leaving the safety of Kagome's barrier just as Hakudoshi ran into it and was thrown back, just like Kagome.

"Okay, my powers aren't completely back yet. It's going to take some time for me to be at 100 percent." Kagome told her friends.

"That's fine. I'll fight this fucker." Inuyasha said, cracking his knuckles.

"No." Kanna said gently. "This is my fight."

"Kan." Kagome called her, but she stepped to one of the men that had tormented her so much and her eyes, normally a pale blue, lit to a bright and fierce orange. Her hands lit on fire and the fire moved to cover her arms.

"What just happened?" Inuyasha asked.

"She's fed up." Kagome said. She watched one of her best friends fight the male that had tormented her and smiled. She knew that Kanna would win, she wasn't worried. Kagome turned to Sesshomaru. Of course, in a battle of brute strength, Sesshomru would win. There was no doubt about that. But she knew that this would be just like the past. Naraku would get away because Sesshomaru wouldn't destroy…his heart!

Kagome looked in the same spot that had shimmered earlier and squinted. There was something over there. What the hell was it? She remembered how she'd seen Naraku instead of Mr. Kuro and then heard her father's words from so long ago. 'There are demons that will be able to manipulate what the human eye can see. But with your miko powers, you will be able to see through their deceit.' Kagome closed her eyes and brought forth all of her miko energy. If she was right about this, she only had one shot.

"Kags what the hell are you doing?" Inuyasha asked, feeling the sting of her powers against skin.

"Shh." Kagome said, trying to concentrate. She opened her eyes again and saw him. "There!" Kagome wrapped her aura around Byakuya and pulled him towards her. "Show yourself!"

"Who are you talking about?" Inuyasha was concerned. With another pulse of her energy, Byakuya appeared before them. "The fuck?"

"One of Naraku's allies. He can do illusions. That's why I saw Naraku earlier when we were in his class." Kagome let her powers flow to her hand and pressed it to his chest. She felt two heartbeats. She pressed harder, tuning out the screams of the demon below her as she literally grabbed the heart with the beat that seemed off. She ripped the bleeding organ out of his chest and left the gaping wound.

Naraku felt his body pulse and he looked at Kagome. Sesshomaru landed a punch to his jaw and Naraku fell to the ground. He was beaten and bloodied. He looked at Kagome and saw that she held his human heart in her hand. He scrambled for the gun and fired one shot right as Kagome purified the heart.

Kagome gasped as she felt a sharp pain in her side. "Oh." She said as her world went black.
