"You can't go near that room."

"Oh? And why not?"

"I turned it into a workshop just last week. It's where I sharpen my weapons and handle the rest of their up-keeping. There's toxic fumes all over the place." Pause. "Bad for the baby."

Smile. "You've been doing your readings."

Snort. "Of course I have. I can't take care of you both and help keep you healthy if I don't know what's bad for you."

Laugh. "Alright, Sasuke-kun. I'll steer clear from it."

"Shit."

The soft curse that fell from her husband's lips didn't quite register in her mind as she stood there, doe-eyed, mouth parted open slightly as her gaze flickered around the room in surprise and ever-growing awe. One of her hands raised to cover her open mouth as she shifted to look at the other end of the room, a wave of emotion washing over her and bringing tears to her eyes as she took notice of Sasuke's beloved dino-chan plushie, and a neatly conserved Uchiha baby bedding that she never knew the existence of. Her free hand went to her very pregnant belly on instinct.

I didn't think there was anything left, she thought to herself, thumb stroking her skin through the clothes in a loving, motherly manner. Everything's been destroyed since Akatsuki attacked Konoha and blew up most of the village. The Uchiha grounds were in smithereens. How did Sasuke find these things? Had he hidden them somewhere else? Had he kept them with him in his travels? She nearly gasped as she wondered, Was this bedding Sasuke's when he was a child? Is this what his parents tucked him into? Did he keep it because—

Tentatively, a hand touched the small of her back. She tilted her head to the side a little to look at her husband, a tiny smile creeping to her lips when she noticed the look of blatant disappointment on his face. He looked a tiny bit angry at himself, too, and she couldn't help her smile from growing because it was all too obvious why he felt this way.

And all this time, she thought this room had been his workshop—at least, that's what he'd had her believing since she'd been five months pregnant—but she never thought Sasuke had actually been building a… a nursery.

Putting a hand on her tummy, Sasuke looked at her and mumbled, "You weren't supposed to see that."

She made a funny face. "I can gather that much from you lying to me," she chanted, giving a little boop to his nose. He wrinkled his nose in response, drawing his face away in a clear don't-do-that-again-it's-ridiculous warning, and just for that, she did it again.

He grunted, rolling his eyes and pushing her hand away from his face, clearly thinking her childishness antics too much for him for some unnamed reason that probably related too much to his macho and serious persona.

(but there was a barely light flush to his cheeks, and a slight tug of his mouth, which spoke deafeningly clearly about his cute, hidden, playful side that she loved so dearly, and was slowly getting expert at letting out)

"So serious," she teased, wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his chin. "How are you gonna get to play with your own child when you're so sombre and grave-looking all the time?"

"Tch." Both his hands found her tummy, then, rubbing lovingly. "Don't you worry about me lacking the ability to be fun for our child," he said, black eyes shining with mirth and some strange sort of arrogance. "In fact," he started, raising his gaze to look at her in challenge, "you should worry about how much fun youhave to be to gain back his favor."

Sakura's eyes widened in surprise, but before long, she burst into laughter, burying her face in his chest. "Oh, you're unbelievable!"

When his arms move to slip around her, pulling her close and bumping his chin to the crown of her head, she relaxes into his warm embrace. She felt her heart skipping a beat as his lips brushed her pink hair, one hand sliding up to hold the side of her neck gently, fingers stroking her skin with the utmost fondness. Closing her eyes, she relished in the moment, storing it to memory.

(Sasuke was loving, and he never had any problem showing his love and accepting hers, but still, he was still never one to be overtly affectionate, as if too shy or too proud.)

Squeezing his back lightly, Sakura sighed contently against him and murmured, "Why didn't you just tell me you were building the nursery?"

She could feel him swallow before he pulled back to look at her for a moment, eyes soft, before he proceeded to take a step back and shift to her side, looking around the room and seemingly thinking upon his answer.

Softly, he started, "I just… wanted to do something," he struggled here, not quite finding the word, "nice." He paused, tilting to the side to look at her again, frowning a little. "Pregnancy's not a walk in the park, and I didn't want us to stress about it after you gave birth. I just wanted to surprise you." She almost jumped as his hand reached down for hers, fingers slipping between her own and squeezing tightly. "Make you happy."

A pleased blush made its way to her face, and she grinned almost blindingly, squeezing his hand back with just as much force. She couldn't get enough of this particularly affectionate version of her husband, and for a moment wondered if one day this Sasuke would be the norm for her and their little family.

"It's so beautiful. Thank you."

She stood on the tip of her toes to press a kiss to his cheek, and giggled a bit as he made a face, blushing a little more.

"You awkward dork," she couldn't help herself from whispering, jabbing at his side playfully with her free hand.

Sasuke grunted, before he grumbled something under his breath and started tugging at her hand, trying to pull her out of the room.

"We should get out of here."

Confused, Sakura quirked a brow. "Eh? But why? I haven't finished—"

"The paint is still fresh, and I read some fumes can be really harmful to pregnant women," he interrupted, tugging more strongly. "I don't want for you or the baby to get sick or develop a problem because I couldn't keep you from stumbling upon my surprise for you."

Her heart warmed, stomach filled with the sweetest butterflies. "You are such a worry wart," she replied, letting him lead her out of the room without further ado. Her hand gave him a squeeze, and she leaned her head on his shoulder. "But, I love you."

It might have been her imagination, but she thought she heard him mutter under his breath that he loved her too.

A/N: Cheesy as hell, but hey, I gotta make up for all my sad prompts lately, right? Surprisingly, I think I managed Sasuke quite well despite this being so fluffy!

As for why Sakura had walked in the room despite Sasuke telling her to steer clear, what I had in mind was that she couldn't find her sharpening tool so she decided to kinda take a quick trip in and steal his. Tried to incorporate that in there but always had to delete what I'd written cause for some reason it disrupted the flow. Oh well. Not a very important detail anyway.

Thoughts?
