WHAT UP!
I just wanted to place a reminder to continue voting for the gender of Auslly's baby as it will be revealed next chapter and I would like to start on it soon.
Also, the fraternity mentioned is a real fraternity. My brother is a part of it at LSU and they tend to be very wild, at least that's what I've heard.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything related to Austin and Ally
Chapter 2
Elliot Becomes Suspicious
Elliot's POV:
First week and a half (today is Tuesday) of college courses and already I want to hang myself. Don't get me wrong, I love my courses because most of them are fun courses, but it's still school and that means boring hours of sitting and listening to teachers drone on and on. The plus side, however, is that there are plenty of hot girls in all of them.
I had just gotten done with my last class course of the day, Art History- Baroque-Contemporary, and was on my way to my car to head home. I have a car, but I wasn't exactly in anyway shape or form to drive home last night, so Austin drove me home. Short story, you can't go to a frat party without taking a body shot off of hot girl or two. Okay maybe three.
I had hoped that Austin might do them with me, but he seemed completely turned off by the entire party. He spent most of time on his phone, texting and looking at pictures that someone was sending him. I tried to look over his shoulder at it, but he always managed to hide it before I could look.
He's been acting really weird since this summer, like really weird. He doesn't come to the frat house for parties, he's either studying, on his phone or working on his music. On the drive over he told me that he couldn't come to the FIJI pledge party because he had a meeting with a music producer. Oh well, his loss is my gain.
I found my red 2014 Honda Civic EX sitting right where I left it; in the parking lot near the Math/Science department and the fraternity/sorority houses, safe and sound. I had parked in front of my frat house; Phi Gamma Delta or simply, FIJI. I had opened the back door to put my backpack in when,
"Hey Elliot," I turned my head to see my other best friend, Dallas, coming my way. "There you are I've been looking for you everywhere."
"Where were you looking?" I asked.
"The art room, the frat house all your usual spots, then I remembered you left your car here, so I ran here from the Sports Complex. That also gave me my daily four mile run." I laughed at that.
Dallas is majoring business and finance while also on a track scholarship, so he did a good bit of running day after day. He is also pledging FIJI and I've been assigned as his 'Pledge Brother' to see if he meets our requirements.
"Well, now that you've found me, what do you want? I kind of have to get going soon." I said leaning against the side of my car.
"Well, I was, thinking, do you think you could set me up with your sister, Ally?" I raised my eyebrows at him in shock.
Every one of my friends, male and female, knows that if there's one rule I hold most sacred, it is this; no one dates my little sister. I can't even fathom what they might do to her. Ally is way too innocent to know what goes on in the mind of a man like the ones I know. Sad fact is; that stuff goes on in my mind as well.
"Look, Dallas, I know you like Ally, but you know how I feel about that. I just don't let my friends date my sister. For one it would be really awkward if you both broke up or if you got too touchy feely with each other, especially around me. I hope you can understand." I say. Thankfully, he did and saying goodbye, I got in my car and turned it on. I looked at the clock on my phone.
2:45. Ally should be home soon, but then again, maybe not I thought. It was only her first week and a half of school too, so she more than likely headed home and then went back out with Trish or another friend to the mall. She also works at Dad's music store in the mall so she could also be there.
I would go, but I can already feel my headache coming back, so I began driving my way home.
By the time I got home, I was surprised to see Ally's white Prius parked in the drive way. Maybe she still wasn't feeling too well and decided to come home. Hopefully, she called dad to tell him she won't be coming to work. I park my car on the sidewalk, grab my stuff and walk up to the front door. I open it and put my stuff in the entry way.
"Ally, you home?" I yelled up the stairs. I got no answer. She must be asleep since she barely got any last night.
I walked to the kitchen for a snack and saw Ally's purse, keys and an apple sitting on the table. The apple had a bite taken out of it yet it didn't look old. In fact, it looked very recent. I reached for the apple when I heard a buzzing noise coming from the purse. I know it's not right to go through someone's purse, but it's my sister and she left her purse in the open. It's the code of big brothers. I open the purse to find her phone flashing a missed message from… Dr. Maureen Hawthorne?
Who the heck is Dr. Hawthorne and why is Ally even seeing a doctor? Is there something wrong with her? As an older brother these are the kind of things that run through your head when you see these kinds of messages. I was brought out of my thoughts, however, when I heard one door open, running down the hall and then another door open and slam shut. It had to be Ally as neither of our parents was home, so I decided to go check up on her. I walked up the stairs, her phone in my hand, and knocked on the bathroom door,
"Als, are you okay?" I could hear the sound of her heaving into the toilet from the other side. She must still be sick from whatever she ate, but she looked fine this morning. I heard the flushing of the toilet and then the door opened. Ally was standing a little flushed with sweat clinging to her forehead.
"Hey, yeah I'm fine, I guess I wasn't feeling as well as I thought I was this morning. I think I'll just go lay back down."
"Ally, who is Dr. Hawthorne and also, why are you scheduled to see her tomorrow? Is there something wrong?" I asked her, holding the phone up. I saw her eyes widen a little bit.
"Whaaaaaaaat? That's crazy Elli; Dr. Hawthorne is a friend of mom's who wants to see her next week for research updates." She explained.
"Okay, but that doesn't explain why the reminder is in your phone and not in moms if it her friend." She raised her arm and grabbed the phone from my hand.
"Her phone was dead at the time, so I put it in mine to send to her when she charged it. I guess I just forgot to delete it, I have been busy you know." She walked past me and back to her room. I guess I would have to take that answer for now as the pounding in my head got worse and worse, but I knew something was up.
I went into the bathroom medicine cabinet, pulled out some Tylenol and went back to my room. I kicked off my shoes, took off my shorts and crawled into bed.
Ally's POV:
Boy that was close!
If Elliot had opened the phone, he would have seen exactly who Dr. Maureen Hawthorne really is. She happens to be my OB/GYN and was the primary care physician for my pregnancy. She had been my mother's physician when she was pregnant with me and when she heard about mine, she agreed to be my physician. She also agreed not to tell my parents until I was ready to tell, which happened to be only 5 weeks away.
I hated that I was lying to my parents and my brother about my pregnancy, but I couldn't exactly just come out and say I was pregnant. Especially when the baby belongs to my brother's best friend, who I have been secretly dating since last year, yeah that'll give my dad a heart attack for sure. I just hope that they can look past that and see how serious Austin and I are.
Buzz, Buzz
I was lying on my bed when my phone on my bedside table started buzzing. I picked it up and saw it was a message from Austin. I swipe my finger across the screen to open the message.
Bold-Austin, Italics-Ally
Hey Als, just making sure you're ready for tomorrow. It's gonna be awesome J
Yeah, I can't wait to see what the gender is. Although, I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a boy
Okay, first of all, can't wait either and second of all, it's definitely gonna be girl.
How can you be so sure? I would have thought you would prefer a boy since you don't really know a lot of girl names last time we talked.
Truthfully, I was pretty happy that he wanted a little girl. I mean what mom doesn't want a little girl to dress up in cute dresses and take ballet classes when she older.
A father just knows and I actually want a little girl to carry around and hopefully she'll look just like you. By the way, what time do I need to pick you up tomorrow?
I guess that does sound rather nice and 10:30. Both my parents should be gone by then. I'll play sick in the morning which shouldn't be that hard considering I'm been throwing up the past couple of weeks.
I cringed when I typed that. I've never played hooky in my life, I mean; I've had perfect attendance since nursery school. I even go on days when you're not supposed to be in school.
Great, see you tomorrow. Love you.
Love you too.
And with that our texts ended. I heaved a sigh, not realizing until now that my mom had been calling my name from downstairs. I got off my bed and prepared to put on the performance of my life. Thankfully, when I looked in mirror, I looked like hell, so it couldn't take that much convincing.
I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen; the smell of garlic was in air as I walked in. Ughhh, garlic, the one main food that makes my stomach clench with my pregnancy, could this be more perfect?! I think I can make this work. My dad was the first to notice me when I walked in and his face immediately became concerned.
He got up out of his chair and walked over to me,
"Ally, baby what's wrong, is it that stomach thing again?" I groaned and nodded my head. He placed his hands on my forehead and cheeks, feeling for a temperature. "You don't have a temperature. Have you been able to keep anything down?" I shook my head 'no'.
My mom soon chimed in from the stove,
"You know, I did hear that a stomach bug has been going around and you have been throwing up since last week. Lester, I think it would be best to keep Ally at home tomorrow and then take her to the doctor." She said.
"Oh, it's okay mom, I already scheduled an appointment with Dr. Cooper for tomorrow. Trish is going to come and get me and take me there, so you won't have to leave work." She still didn't seem convinced.
"Are you sure you'll be alright by yourself?" She asked.
"Mom, it's me, I think I'll be perfectly fine by myself until Trish comes to get me. And if anything does happen, I'll call Elli or Austin and they'll come get me." When I said Austin's name, I could see both of my parents faces and shoulders drop with relief. I should have said that from the beginning.
I excused myself, saying I couldn't stomach anything and that I was just going to go back to sleep. They agreed and I went back upstairs to my room. I quickly texted Austin and with that I changed my clothes and put on my pajamas. I stopped for moment, while putting on t-shirt, to admire my small baby bump. I still couldn't believe that me, goody-two shoes Ally Dawson, was pregnant and with my brother's best friend's baby. But, you know what; I didn't care any of that.
Not what my parents, my brother or any of their friends might say because I knew one thing that made it worth it. Austin and I were in love and we love this baby more than anything. As long as he's with me, I know I can get through this. With that said, I crawled into bed, dreaming of what would come tomorrow.
*Next Day*
I watched as my brother left for school, my mom left for the zoo and dad left for the mall as I got dressed. I had decided to wear a ¾ inch sleeve light blue stretch jersey dress that went to just above my knees with a pair of black leggings and a matching pair of light blue ballet flats. I wanted to make it easy to get my ultrasound today, even though I would love to wear jeans or shorts.
I walked down the stairs into the kitchen for a bowl of cereal with banana slices and pickle chunks. I know that sounds disgusting, but what baby wants, baby gets and the baby wants this. A bowl of Cheerios is actually really good for a baby, so I had qualms about eating it. Hopefully it'll stay down this time. I was halfway through my cereal when I heard the front door open and close.
Austin walked into the room, dressed in a white wife-beater underneath a red hoodie and a pair of ripped blue jeans and his signature red sneakers. His train whistle was hanging around his neck as wrapped his arms around me from behind.
"Morning Ally," Austin said, peaking me on the cheek, "And goof morning to you Baby Moon." He said bending down and kissing my bump. That always made me smile.
I put my bowl in the sink and followed Austin to his…Jaguar?
"What happened to your truck? Is it the shop?" He never drove anything except his 1988 Toyota Pickup. He and his dad worked to rebuild it together and he was never seen without it.
"I asked to borrow my dad's car because I didn't want you having to climb in and out of it. I didn't want something to happen to you or the baby." I sighed and leaned up to kiss him on the lips.
"You truly are a wonderful, sentimental man Austin Moon and I wouldn't have it any other way." We smiled at each other and climbed in the car for our noon appointment.
It was abou drive and luckily we didn't hit any traffic, not that I noticed it. Austin and I held hands the entire way and talked about what we hoped for at our appointment. He kept saying that it was going to be a girl while I kept saying that it was going to be a boy. However, we both agreed that it didn't really matter as long as the baby came out happy and healthy. We lost track of time because Austin pulled up into the hospital parking lot soon after.
We parked the car and walked into the lobby of Miami General Hospital. I had been here before with Trish for my last appointment, so I knew where to go for the appointment. An elevator ride later found us at Dr. Hawthorne's office waiting room. Austin took a seat while I went to go check myself in. I walked up to the receptionist,
"Good afternoon Kelli, I'm here to Dr. Hawthorne for my prenatal appointment." I told her. Kelli had been the receptionist since I was young, so she didn't need to do any of the normal receptionist's procedures. I could feel the piercing gazes of the other pregnant women in the room. Yeah, like a pregnant 18 year old is such a strange site now a day! I chose to ignore them as I talked to Kelli.
"Oh yes, Ally, and right on time as usual." She stood up and looked over my shoulder. I knew who she was looking at. "So, that's the father?" She asked.
"Yes, finally got a day off of school and work to come with me. He wants to be there when we find out the gender." I told her, doing a little giggle and dance.
"Alright, well Dr. Hawthorne will see you soon. Just take a seat until your name is called." I smiled at her and walked back to sit next to Austin. He was on his phone looking through his emails and messages.
"Waiting on something?" I asked. He jumped a little, oblivious to me sitting down.
"Yeah, I sent a demo of that song we wrote together to some record labels and I should hear back from them pretty soon. Hopefully they like what I sent." He said. He put his phone in the pocket of his hoodie and slumped in his seat. I could tell he was stressed about this.
Ever since we found out I was pregnant, Austin has been looking for a better job than the one he has to pay for stuff like food, rent, baby clothes and other baby items. He figured that he would try to get his music career started early by giving demos to anyone and everyone. I hope at least one label likes his 'sound' as he calls. I grab his hand and intertwine our fingers as I lean into him, my head going against his shoulder as I sighed in content. He kissed me on the top of my head and laid his head on top of mine.
"Dawson, Ally!" I heard the nurse yell from the door. I raise my head from Austin's shoulder and we both walk through the door to the doctor's office. She placed us in an examining room and began to ask me the usual questions.
Are you eating well, what are you eating, are you getting enough exercise etc. until she takes my blood pressure, my vitals, and measure the growth of my bump. After she leaves us I climb onto the examine table and Austin takes a seat in the nearby chair. Our hands are still connected throughout all this. A knock on the door and the doctor enters.
"Hello Ally and I see you brought someone besides Trish this time." Dr. Hawthorne says. Dr. Hawthorne is in her mid to late 40s with black slowly graying hair, stands at about 5'10 and was wearing a royal blue silk wrap dress with matching heels. She is also wearing a white lab coat over her dress.
"Dr. Hawthorne this is my boyfriend and the baby's father, Austin Moon." I say as they exchange pleasantry's and shake hands. We go through the daily questions again until finally,
"Well, lift up your shirt and let's have a look at this baby." She says as she brings the monitor over. I look at Austin as I roll my dress up over my stomach and see the bright smile on his face stretch to his ears.
Dr. Hawthorne turned the lights off, took a tube of gel, and squirted it onto my stomach. I jumped at the feeling. That gel is the coldest thing I have ever felt in my life. She placed the wand on my stomach and began moving it around. It took a while before,
"And there is your baby and here is the heartbeat." Hearing that sound from the monitor is the best sound a person can hear. It beats any of the chart topping songs I've ever heard. I felt Austin squeeze my hand and I smiled back at him.
"That's our baby, Als, our little baby inside you. She sounds so healthy already." He says.
"Well, I can guess that you both want to know the gender if your already calling the baby a 'she'?" She asked. We both nodded our heads in a 'yes'. She moved the wand a little more until she found the spot. I could feel the anticipation welling up inside both of us.
"Well, congratulations you two, you're having a…"
Hurry, there's still time! Place your choice for the baby's gender soon and we can move the story along. So, go and review, favorite, and follow like the wind!
Thanks!
