Title: uh, who are you?
Summary: Sasuke finally starts his internship under the prestigious Sakura Haruno... and doesn't even recognize her when they meet. He probably should have looked up pictures when he followed her work.
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Prompt: boss/intern au
Rating: K
A/N: Started a writing meme for AUs a couple weeks ago on tumblr, thought I might post them all here because a) people on tumblr mobile seem to not be able to read the stories when there are read mores, and b) thought you guys would enjoy them anyway. :) So warning, there will be a bit of a spam of chapters today!

He'd taken a wrong turn somewhere, surely. That was the first thing that came to mind as he stood there at the frame of a large, brightly colored office room, dark eyes set on the small build of a young, pink haired woman perusing through a set of books.

Probably another intern, he guessed, judging by her age; she didn't look like she could be much more than one or two years his senior.

Which meant he definitely wasn't in the right place.

(after all, he remembered quite clearly that there had only been one internship spot open in the neurosurgeon practice under the infamous Sakura Haruno's care—one he had fought tooth and nail for for nearly two years, now. he was to be the only apprentice this round due to her incredibly busy schedule.)

"Are you lost?" the woman asked, then, breaking him from trance. She never spared him a glance, seemingly rather concentrated in her search.

A very pretty girl, Sasuke found himself thinking, after contemplating her form. He immediately shook the unexpected conclusion from his mind, clearing his throat as quietly as he could.

"I'm looking for Doctor Haruno's office," he said, finally.

"You're looking at it," she replied, green, green eyes quickly flickering his way. He could swear he saw her lips tugging, as if fighting a smile.

He blinked, brows furrowing slightly. "I didn't know Doctor Haruno was taking in another intern. I was told she was too busy to take more than one."

The tug of her lips seemed more insistent at that. It made Sasuke frown.

"I didn't know she was, either," she said, reaching to touch the spine of an old tome quite contemplatively. But she didn't seem quite so focused anymore. "Say, what do you think about her anyway?"

"Doctor Haruno?"

She snorted. "No, I meant Barbie."

Sasuke rolled his eyes — if discreetly. "I don't know if I'd have any right to say. I've never met her."

"So you don't even know her and yet you fought like hell for the better part of two years to get here?"

"I know she's the best neurosurgeon this country's gotten in decades," he said, frowning more deeply with clear dislike to her tone, "which is saying something considering her age, of what I hear. Flying through med school at record breaking speed, her medical training was finished already by the age of twenty-three, making her something of a genius to most. I'd be inclined to agree."

That was definitely a smile on her lips now, clear and stupidly pleased, but somehow, Sasuke couldn't care, feeling quite irritated as he went on anyway, "Personally I've followed her endeavors since my third year of college with great interest; her work is intricate, her research incredibly intriguing, and her methods phenomenal. I hold great respect for her and believe that no one else could make me a better neurosurgeon than she could. That is why I fought so hard to get here."

There. Satisfied? he wanted to add, overcome with the urge to sneer. But he bit his tongue from doing so; professionalism was key, he reminded himself. Taunting quips from nameless interns trying to compete were nothing to get worked up about.

But to his surprise, the intern's smile merely grew wider at this. She wasn't interested in her row of books anymore. "Well," she said, finally turning her head to look at him, body shifting his direction. Sasuke's eyes widened when he realized that she wasn't wearing intern scrubs. She was—She was—

"I'm used to flattery at this point, really, but that was something pretty special if I do say so myself."

—an attending?

Sasuke's mouth parted, heart jumping in his chest. His eyes remained wide open, mind spinning nervously. "You're—"

The pretty attending physician smiled, and finished for him, "Sakura Haruno, yes." Winking quickly, she propped a hand to her hip and teased, "Didn't expect someone your age despite all that, did you?"

Throat running dry, Sasuke felt his cheeks flush. He didn't know what to say.

These next years would either be the best or the worst of his life, he mused.
