WHAT UP!

What's up, my faithful readers! If you will remember what happened, drunk Elliot decided to tell Ally how he felt about her engagement and pregnancy. Now we see how Austin and Ally deal with the voicemail and what they plan to do. There will be a time jump to the gender reveal because I think we've built up to that enough.

I would have updated earlier, but when you have VIP tickets and meet & greet to an R5 show you lose all track of time. If you'll be at the Houston show, I'll see you there!

Chapter 8

Sad Decisions and Happy Beginnings

Austin's POV:

I've come to a big decision in my life; I'm never helping anyone else move ever again!

I may be 22, but lifting all those boxes and going up and down those stairs with said boxes has made me feel older than my age. Why did Dez have to live on the sixth floor of his new apartment building? Don't ask me because for one thing, it's Dez, and that's a can of worms no one wants to open.

After moving tons of boxes and setting everything into his new apartment, Dez and I sat in the living/dining room. We both had a drink in our hands and were sitting on the pull out couch, trying to catch our breath. We had sweat pouring down our foreheads and shirts. Again, I repeat, damn this Miami heat!

"So, I think we've just about moved everything in, now I just have to wait for the cable guy to come and set up my internet and TV." Dez said, taking a huge gulp of his water. I followed suit and let out a huge breath as I sat.

"And you're sure that's everything?" I asked him. He shook his head in a 'yes' and I breathed another sigh of relief. All I wanted to do now was climb in my car and head home to my fiancé. Yeah, I'm never gonna get tired of saying that.

As I laid my head back on the couch, I felt my phone begin to vibrate in my back pocket. I pulled it out and looked at the text from Ally.

Hey, just got done tasting and designing our reveal cake! I found out that baby girl does not like red velvet by the way. Anyway, pancakes for dinner. Can't wait to see you, love you! –Ally

Man, this girl is too cute for her own good. I quickly texted her back and proceeded to hear Dez chuckling a little next to me. I looked up at him.

"What?" He just kept staring at me and then gesturing between me and the phone in my hand.

"You and Ally, you both are really something." He said.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked back.

"You two have this weird chemistry thing going on like you're, I don't know, two pieces of a puzzle that were hidden for years in the different boxes only to be reunited when the owner realized that he's messed them up." He said, breathing a dreamy sigh as he finished. "It's almost a fairytale romance."

It's sayings like that, that give me reasons to think about what goes on in Dez's brain and then remember that it's Dez and with him nothing really makes sense. Again, that's a whole big can of worms that no one should open up. You have to admit though; he does say some really funny things sometimes.

"Yeah, well, not everything about this is all sunshine and rainbows. There are some dark spots right now." I said, darkening the mood a little.

"You mean Elliot?" Dez asked. I heaved a breath out, blowing my bangs out of my eyes. I had told Dez about what Elliot had said, so he knew the whole story.

It bothered me beyond belief that Elliot wouldn't support Ally and me on our decisions. He knows me better than anyone, well besides Dez, so he should know that I'm gonna be there for Ally and our baby. Yet, in his drunken mind, he believes that I'll abandon them both when something 'better' comes along. I would say I blame his decisions on the alcohol he consumed, but then again, he was mad before I even pulled the ring box out of my jacket pocket.

Ally and I have discussed what we do if Elliot never came around, but we never really came to an agreement about what that would be. Ally really wants Elliot to be a part of his niece's growing up and I want him to be a groomsman at the wedding. However, we also have to face the realization that they might not happen. If so, we have to take drastic measures and cut him off completely. I just hope it doesn't have to come to that.

"You just need to give him some more space." Dez explained. "Elliot is still trying to come to terms with the fact that his baby sister is not only engaged, but having a baby with you. It's a lot to take in and in such little time, you can't exactly be surprised that he acted the way he did." I guess that did make sense. I mean, springing on the Dawson's that their daughter was pregnant and then getting engaged, he was a little surprised that her father hadn't try to poison him yet.

"I know, but Dez, it's already been a month since we told everyone, how much more time can we give him, till the baby's born or when starts pre-school?" I said back.

"As much as he needs, especially if you want him back on your side before you graduate." Dez said. I gave him a skeptical look and then smiled at my best bud.

"You know Dez; you're smarter than you behave." I told him.

"Thanks," he said back and then squinted him eyes at me, "Wait a minute." We both laughed until I looked at the time on my phone.

"Shit, I got to head home. Ally's making dinner and I don't want to keep her waiting." I said, stretching as I got off the couch, Dez following suit. We walked to the door and stopped just in the doorframe.

"Thanks for helping me move and good luck with Elliot." He said.

"Thanks man and don't forget, two weeks from now, you'll finally know if Ally and I are having a boy or girl." I reminded him.

"I wouldn't miss it for the world, after all, I'am the godfather of your little bundle of joy." He said. "I will, however, prefer to be called 'The Godfather Dez' on the day of the christening." I couldn't tell if he was joking or if he was being serious, so I just nodded my head and walked down the stairs back to my car.

I had opened the door to my car when I heard my phone vibrating in my back pocket. I bet it was Ally asking where I was or if I was on my way home. I pulled it out and saw it was a text from her, but it wasn't what I thought it would be.

PLEASE come home as fast as you can. I really need to talk to you about something. – Ally

That didn't sound good. Throwing my phone back in my pocket I climbed into the driver's seat, started the engine and pulled out as fast as I could, making a bee-line for Ally. I just hope she was okay.

When you receive a disturbing text or call from your pregnant fiancé, a thousand scenarios begin to race through your head. Could something have happened to Ally, the baby or both? Did she maybe have a fall and think she was having a miscarriage? Or maybe she got a call from her doctor with some news on the baby from her latest appointment? Each one of those scenarios did nothing to calm my nerves.

When I finally pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex, I all but bolted out of the car and up the flight of stairs to our apartment. I threw the door opened and looked into the living room. She wasn't in there or the tiny kitchen just a few steps away.

"Ally, babe where are you?!" I called out. I didn't hear anything until I walked towards the bedroom and heard the sounds of sniffling coming from it. I walked inside the room to see Ally curled up on the bed, her head down her folded up knees as she cried. Now I knew something was wrong.

I walked to the bed and sat down next to her, bringing her shaking body into my arms.

"Ally, come on everything's gonna be okay." I said, trying to soothe her. I felt her shake her head as she lifted her head up.

"No, Austin, it isn't." She told me. "Nothing can make it better, not after what I just heard." She wrapped her arms around my neck as she cried a little more and I tried to calm her down more by rubbing her back.

"Well, come on, you know you can tell me anything. I mean, it can't be all bad, can it?" I felt her laugh a little and then lift her head from my neck. Whatever could have happened to make her this upset must be something bad?

After she had finally calmed down enough to speak, I found out what it was and I was not happy in the least.

"I got a phone call from Elliot." Oh no, here we go again.

No One's POV:
Sonic Boom was once again decorated for another party; Austin and Ally's Gender Reveal party. Light blue and pink streamers hung from the staircase, different plates of finger foods were being served, and on a small round table by the checkout area sat the cake that held the answer to the question everyone wanted to figure out. A chalk board had been set up so that guests could place their guesses on what the gender was and it wasn't hard to see what those guesses were. A fair number of those at the party were dressed in blue, while the rest were wearing pink.

Everything and everyone were set in place and so far everyone was having a great time. Well, almost everyone.

Ally was standing next to Austin at the entrance greeting guests as they came in. They both had agreed to wear white instead of pink or blue considering they knew what the gender was, so they didn't want to give anything away.

Ally was wearing a strapless off white sundress that had a high-low affect with a white long sleeved cardigan and tan wedge sandals. The dress framed her baby bump very well and she had taken to the habit of holding and caressing it every chance she got.

Austin was wearing a white button down dress shirt that had tan stripes running down it, light blue jeans with his black and white converse on his feet. His signature train whistle necklace and guitar pick were hanging around his neck.

Countless people had been coming in and asking for a picture of the two of them, giving them gifts for the baby, asking about Ally's pregnancy and so on and so forth. Ally had to admit that Trish had done a pretty good job of setting everything up and inviting people, but there was one person she wishes could be here.

Elliot, she thought why can't you be happy for me? Or at least be here to support us? Ally heaved a sigh as she greeted another of her extended family. Austin seemed to have noticed her upset mood and decided to move away for a while, making the excuse that Ally needed to sit and rest. They excused themselves to the practice room, so that they could talk in peace.

"Alright, what's wrong?" He asked as he closed the door. "You were so happy this morning and now, you're all down in the dumps. This is supposed to be a happy occasion right?" Ally heaved another sigh as she walked to the fridge in the corner and pulled out a bottle of water. She downed half the contents before speaking.

"I' am happy, Austin." She said back. "It's just that, when I pictured something like this, I envisioned everyone we love here to help celebrate. Now, we're one person, who's important to both of us, short of what should be a happy event." She sighed again as she took a seat on the nearby red armchair and placed her head in her hands.

Austin hated to see her like this because he knew how important this was, not only for them, but for their friends and family. He also knew that she wanted her brother to come around, but that was a very far shot in hell. He sat on the arm of the chair as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders. Austin hated how stressed this made her. Not only was it bad for her, but it was bad for the baby.

It was a hard decision, but they knew that it would be best for the time being, not only for themselves, but maybe for their baby as well.

FLASHBACK

To say Austin was surprised would be taking it lightly. He placed the phone back on the bedside table as he lay down on the bed, his head falling onto Ally's lap. She had propped herself up against the headboard with the pillows underneath her to support her back.

"I can't believe it." He said. "I can't believe that he would say something like that." He had just heard the awful message Elliot had left and, at the same time, trying to forget about it.

"I couldn't believe it either. At first I thought that maybe he was pulling some kind of prank and that, at the end of the voicemail, he would come out and say that he didn't mean any of it." Ally said, wincing a little as her hand came to her stomach. The baby had begun to move around a lot since she got home and now she was playing soccer with her rib cage. "When it didn't I knew that he meant every single word and my heart broke." Small tears had begun to form in the corners of her eyes as she sniffled.

Austin, seeing the tears, lifted himself from Ally's lap and moved to lie next to her. He pulled her into his arms and cradled her, his hands resting protectively around her stomach. He could feel the tiny kicks and punches coming from his daughter, so he began to gently rub his hands on Ally's stomach. Thankfully, it calmed her down and Ally was able to relax a little.

"Thanks, I needed that." Ally said as she sighed, thankful for the relief. Austin kissed her forehead and continued to hold her in his arms.

There was a long, comfortable silence before Austin decided to break it.

"Ally, I know we hope Elliot will come around, but we might need to face the facts." Ally raised her head up at him and knew what he meant.

"I guess you're right." She half-heartedly agreed. "For now, we'll keep Elliot at arm's length, at least until the baby's born. Once things have settled down, we'll try and make things better." Austin nodded his head in agreement and the couple left it at that.

"I know it's hard right now, but you have to look at the brighter side of things." He said, sitting down in front of her. "Today, we're letting our friends and family that we're having a little girl, who will be so surrounded by love that she won't know what to do with it." She lifted her head up to look at him; small tears had escaped her eyes and were running down her cheeks.

"You think so?" She said, trying to wipe the tears and keep her make up on. He chuckled a little as he brought his hands to cup her face.

"Look, I know this thing with Elliot is stressful and I know that we'll have to face it soon, but for now let's focus on what matters." He dropped one hand to rest on her round stomach. "And that's celebrating this little one and us." That definitely helped to lighten the mood for Ally.

Austin was right; this wasn't the time to think about Elliot. Today is about them and their baby and they were going to enjoy this break from real life.

Austin helped Ally to her feet, embracing each other as they did, and headed back down to the party. Their hands remained clasped together as both sets of soon to be grandparents came towards them. Penny was the first to speak up.

"Ally, sweetie, is everything okay?" She asked.

"Yes mom, everything's fine, I just had a bit of a mood swing and Austin was able to calm me down." She said.

"Well that's good. You know, one of the best things to do when that happens is to just take a breather and collect yourself." Mimi piped in. "Too much stress is bad for the baby after all." They laughed a little and Ally was able to take in the gender they were rooting for.

Lester and Penny were both dressed in soft pink; Lester was wearing a pink polo shirt with white dress pants and brown dress shoes. Penny was wearing a pink dress that resembled Ally's except for the high-low hemline. She had on a pair of nude heels and a tan short sleeve cardigan.

Mimi and Mike were dressed in blue; Mike had on a light blue long sleeve dress shirt that had the sleeves rolled up with a dark blue sweater vest over it. He also had on khaki pants and brown loafers. Mimi was wearing a similar top, except for the dark blue sweater that was wrapped around her shoulders. She had on a khaki shirt and light blue ballet flats.

It was clear which gender they wanted.

"Dad, I thought you wanted a granddaughter?" Austin said as he looked his parents over. Mike shook his head in disagreement.

"I said a granddaughter would be nice the second time around, but we all know that the Moon family is notorious for having sons first." Mike said, his chest puffed out with manly pride.

"True, but this baby is also a Dawson, and we're known for having daughters first." Lester said, trying to size Mike up. Both men began to argue about which of them was right while their wives just seemed to be embarrassed beyond belief.

"Anyway, no matter what the baby is, there is one thing we can all agree on." Penny piped in.

"That as long as the baby is born happy and healthy than nothing else matters." Mimi finished.

Ally and Austin smiled as they watched the exchange between their parents. Both sets of parents were so excited to become grandparents that they had been giving advice and guidance on what to do when certain things happen. Needless to say, Ally could practically write a book on parenting if she wanted to.

Their parents walked off from them, leaving Ally and Austin to continue being bombarded by different relatives giving them gifts. Some were for the baby and others were for them. They especially loved the check for $1,000 from Austin's maternal grandmother. That would go towards renovating Dez's old room into a suitable nursery for the baby.

After an hour or so, they were both standing at the food table when Trish came over to them.

"Alright, I think we've waited long enough." She said, bouncing in place on the balls of her heels. "How about we cut that cake open and reveal this little baby, huh?" Ally looked at Austin and he agreed that they'd kept everyone waiting long enough.

Ally moved towards the cake while Austin stood on the bench and made a quick announcement.

"Alright everyone, if you will move towards the checkout desk, we would like to open this baby up and give you what you came for!" That caused a stir in the crowd as people pulled out their phones and cameras, trying to get a good view of the couple and the big reveal.

Austin parted the crowd as he stood next to Ally and took hold of the knife in her hand. He saw Dez over his shoulder with his camera, recording the entire thing.

"Okay everybody, on the count of 3!" Mimi yelled out. The crowd counted down as Austin and Ally placed the knife in the cake and let the piece fall over to reveal…

"IT'S A GIRL!" Lester shouted and the crowd went nuts.

It was this moment that Ally felt extreme happiness. She had Austin with his arm wrapped protectively around her, they were in love, her baby was happy and healthy, she and Austin's families supported them, and everyone now knew they were having a little girl.

This moment couldn't be ruined and she hoped and wished it would stay that way for a while.
