Chapter 14
Time to Ourselves
Austin's POV:
I let out a sigh as I sat back down on one of the hard chairs in the hospital waiting room. I ran a hand through my hair as I thought about what could happen between Ally and Elliot. It could either go one of two ways: Ally and Elliot reach an agreement and decide to mend their relationship or drive an even bigger wedge between them. I knew that letting them talk would be stressful, but anything to help bridge the somewhat large gap between Ally and Elliot. I just wanted things to be normal between all of us again.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and I lifted my head from my hand to come face to face with Penny. I could now see the bags under her eyes and the weariness in her face, signs that she and Lester had been up since late. It was almost after midnight after all.
"Austin," She said. "Lester and I are going down to the cafeteria to get some coffee, would like any?" Even when she has all of this going around her, she still thinks of others and that's what I liked about her.
"No, thanks, Mrs. Dawson," I replied back. "After Ally's done talking to Elliot, we're gonna head back home. She's had a stressful day and Dr. Hawthorne is worried about how her body is holding up with it." Our last doctor's visit, Ally tests results had come back a little worrisome. Her blood pressure was a little high and Dr. Hawthorne reminded us how that can affect a pregnant woman. Ever since then, we've done all we can to make sure she's relaxed.
"Alright," She said as Lester rose to follow her. "If Ally comes out before we're back, tell her we love her and to get as much rest as she can. We don't want that baby coming out sooner than she needs to." I laughed a little and then waved them off as they walked away from the waiting room and then down the hall to the cafeteria.
I slumped back in my chair and continued my wait for Ally to come out so we could go home. Those plans however were soon long forgotten.
I saw the nurse that was taking care of Elliot come running out and stop at the front desk. She spoke frantically, but I could make out some words. Words I wished I hadn't heard.
'Pregnant', 'young girl' and 'heavy bleeding' and I felt myself standing up and hurrying to the desk. I didn't make it far though. A stretcher flew down the hallway and I could see my worst fear: Ally, lying unconscious with an oxygen mask on her face, and blood stains on her pants. If the bleeding was coming from that area, then it could only mean one thing; that we had lost our baby. I started to run for the stretcher, but I was stopped by the nurse.
"Sir!" She said as she stopped me. "You can't go in there!"
"You don't understand, that's my fiancé and my baby!" I said as I tried to force my way past her, but she and another nurse were able to restrain me and return me to my seat.
"Sir," The other nurse said as they both held me by the shoulders. "We are doing everything we can to help your fiancé, but we need for you to stay here."
"You can't honestly expect me to just sit here and not do anything, do you?!" I screamed in the nurse's face.
"Please, let us do our job and we'll make sure to take good care of her." She said back, placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "We'll come and get you once everything has settled down." And then they both let go of me and walked back down the hall to wherever they took Ally.
I could feel my left foot gyrate at the speed of a hummingbird's heart as I waited and waited for the nurses to return. It had been almost an hour since I last saw them and every minute seemed to tick by an amazingly slow rate. All that ran through my mind was could be happening to Ally and our baby.
Every pregnancy book and every article online has always said the same thing: heavy bleeding in any part of the pregnancy was usually or never a good sign. If we lost the baby now, it would kill Ally even more than anything else that has happened. We both love that little girl so much that it scares us both to think of what could happen if we lost her. All I can do now is pray and hope that everything comes out okay.
I was pulled out of my thoughts when I finally saw the nurse come back from wherever Ally was. I immediately jumped from my seat as she came towards me and I could see the smile on her face; a good sign in a situation like this.
"Mr. Moon," She said. "Everything is fine. Ms. Dawson and the baby are both fine, a little shook up, but fine, none the less." I released the lung full of air I didn't know I was holding and let my body finally relax from its tension filled stance. "If you'll follow me," She said as she moved her arm towards the hallway. "I can take you to see her. She's in a private room with Dr. Hawthorne running through some final tests." I nodded my head and walked with her down the hall and to Ally's room.
When we got there, she opened the door and I saw Ally, dressed in a hospital gown with an IV drip and Dr. Hawthorne at her side checking her pulse. Her face lite up when she saw me and I quickly went to her side.
"I'm so sorry," She said, her voice a little hoarse as she did. "I must have worried you with what happened."
"No," I said. "As long as you and Aria are okay, nothing else matters." I kissed her forehead and then moved my hand to her stomach, making sure that Aria really was still there. She did just that by kicking against the palm of my hand. "What exactly happened though?"
"I don't really remember a lot except talking to Elliot and then getting up to leave." She said. "Then I looked down and saw that my chair was covered in blood. After that, I passed out and then woke up here."
"You had a mild case of placental abruption." Dr. Hawthorne said as she scribbled on a clip board, probably writing Ally's stats after what happened. "It's when the placenta separates itself from the uterus. It usually only occurs closer towards the end of a pregnancy, but it can occur prematurely when the mother is under a lot of stress." Well, that made sense, especially considering the situations we've been in. "So," She said as she put the clip board under her arm. "We're going to keep Ally overnight to make sure that everything is okay."
"Why can't I go home now?" She asked. "I mean, you were able to stop the bleeding."
"Yes, we were able to stop it," She said. "But, you're still not healed enough to go home, so we're just doing it as precaution. Austin is welcomed to stay here if you're worried about that." She looked at me and I shook my head in a 'yes'. "Well, if you have no further questions, I'll leave you two alone. Goodnight." And with that, Dr. Hawthorne left us alone
"I'm just going to go and let your parents know what happened and that they can head on home if they want." I said as I got up. "You try and get some sleep and I'll be by your side the whole night."
"Alright, hurry back." She said as she shimmied a little on the bed to get in a more comfortable position. I smiled and kissed her on the forehead before opening the door and heading back down the hallway.
When I got there, I saw Lester and Penny looking around the waiting area with Styrofoam cups filled with coffee. Penny was the first to see me and quickly rushed over to meet me halfway. I told them about what had happened and how I was going to stay with Ally and they should head on home. Lester didn't agree with that idea at first, but Penny was able to convince him otherwise. They were going to check up on Elliot and then they would head back home for the night. We all said our goodbyes and I headed back to Ally's room.
When I got back, I saw that she had already fallen asleep. I, finally realizing just how tired I was as well, gave a yawn and made a beeline for the couch. I found a spare blanket and settled in for the night.
Ally's POV:
The next morning found me getting a final checkup from Dr. Hawthorne before she would finally allow me to be released from the hospital. The nurses had removed the IV needle from my arm, cut the ties to the various machines and then cleared me to be released. In all honesty, I was so happy to be heading home with this giant belly for once. After what had happened last night, I knew how important it really is for me to take care of myself. No more stressful situations, that was for sure!
Austin had gone back to the apartment to get me a fresh pair of clothing, so I was waiting on him to return before I could actually leave. So, I was still sitting on the hospital bed, dressed in a hospital gown and patiently waited for his return. Unfortunately, in the hast of leaving last night, I had forgotten my phone, so I was currently bored out of my mind.
Finally, Austin came back with some sweats, a t-shirt, some slip on sandals and clean underwear for me to wear home. While I was getting dressed, I noticed that Austin seemed to be a little giddy, almost gleeful. I asked if there was anything that happened while he was out, but he simply said that there was nothing wrong and that he was only happy that Aria and I were okay. Not really wanting to dig any farther, I went with his answer and continued dressing. When I was fully dressed, we went to the nurse's station, signed the release papers and finally, got in the car to leave.
The ride back was relatively quiet, with little breaks of conversation here and there, but it was generally quiet. When we finally pulled into the parking lot in front of our apartment, Austin helped me out of the car and we walked back to apartment. Never before had I been so happy to be home in my entire life! However, I noticed something strange.
There were red rose petals sprinkled across the landing leading to our door and when I opened the door, even more petals were waiting. The lights had been dimmed and the soft glow of candlelight filled the living room. The relaxing smell of lavender filled the air and I followed the smell to the bathroom, where a luxurious bubble bath had been run, and the room also aglow with candlelight.
All I could do was stare in awe at what should have been our boring apartment was turned into some sort of fancy spa and I had a feeling of who did it. I turned around to face my handsome fiancé, who was staring me with a slight smirk.
"Did you do all of this?" I asked as I moved to hug him.
"Well, I can't take all the credit." He said as he pulled me into the hug. I rested my head against his chest as I smiled. "You're mom and Trish did most of the work, all I did was come up with a plan."
"Why did you do this?" I asked him, not really understanding why he did all of this. He only smiled and pulled me even closer to him as I cuddled into his chest.
"We've all been through a lot, but you're the one that needs to rest the most." He said. "You're carrying our child and you and her," He pointed down to my stomach to emphasize. "Need to take it easy to keep you both healthy until she's ready to come out." I giggled a little as I stood on my tiptoes to give him a kiss. He truly was a wonderful man and I still couldn't get over how lucky I was to have him.
"You are going to be such a wonderful husband and father, you know that?" I said. He gave a chuckle, kissed me and then released me from his hold.
"Now," He said as he moved me towards the bathroom. "Take as long as you want and when you're done, there's a massage waiting for you." I stopped at the door when a thought popped into my head.
"What about work?" I asked. "Doesn't Jimmy need you to come in to discuss the final parts of your album release?"
"Nope," He replied. "I called him and told him about what had happened, so he allowed me to take a day off to help you relax. Now, stop stalling and enjoy your bath." I laughed as I closed the door behind me and looked at the bubble filled tub.
I stripped myself of my sweats, t-shirt and underwear and carefully climbed into the tub. The warm water felt wonderful against my skin and warmed my body completely. I could feel the tension leave my body as I sighed, closing my eyes in the process.
The entire bath was something I had desperately needed especially after last night. When I saw that amount of blood on my sweats and the chair, the first thing that popped into my head was that I was miscarrying. I had been beyond scared, almost to the point of tears, but then I reminded myself that everything was okay. Aria was still safe in my stomach and was still on track with her development, even with the placental abruption. Placenta keeps the baby alive, so a part of it breaking off could be detrimental to the baby's development. Thankfully, there was no harm and she was still on track.
I was also thankful for what had happened before that: the reparation of Elliot's and me relationship. He and I were no longer strangers, no longer mad about my situation; he was just my big brother. That feud being over made me such a release of negative energy that I was just happy it was over. It will still take some time to fully repair, but any start is still a start.
After about an hour, I finally decided to get out of the tub. I wrapped a fluffy, lavender robe around myself and exited the bathroom. I came out to see Austin sitting on the bed in our bedroom, waiting for me. I entered and he stood straight up.
"And now," He said as he moved me to the bed. "The second part of your day of relaxation is a massage by yours truly." I would be lying if I said I wasn't completely turned on. The thing with pregnancy is that I get horny really easily. I mean, I can't count the number of times Austin and I have had to sneak off the set of his music video or a recording session for a quickie in the car or any private place really. Pregnancy usually means an increase in a lot of things: cravings, moods swings and sex drive. Only one of those is my favorite.
I lay on a round pillow that Austin had found me once my belly began to show and began working on my back. His strong hands began working out the knots in my upper back, occasionally sneaking a few grabs at my breast, and I couldn't hold back the moan that escaped my throat. His hands began going lower and lower until they were definitely not on my back anymore. In fact, they had moved more to my front area. I soon felt his lips meet the slope of my neck as he began to suck and nibble at it. I felt the right side of my robe begin to slide off as I leaned back.
When my robe had completely fallen off, the idea of a massage had completely gone out the door. Let's just say that we both felt the release of any negative or stressful thoughts.
Well, I hope you liked this chapter! I really had a little fun writing it because who doesn't like writing about Auslly fluff? Reviews make me happy and motivated!
