Ok that were some very busy months... Happy new year everyone! I'm sorry for not posting for so long. As said NaNoWriMo in November (I reached the 50.000 w00t) and after that my b-day, moms b-day, christmas, sinterklaas, new years eve and going out with friends and co-workers... I went out for dinner so many times... And now I also am going on a second date with someone so there is that... (anyone got dating tips?).
I have absolutely no idea when I will be able to upload the next chapter, I am still busy, so many things planned... so I'll try to work on it whenever I find time. Please enjoy!

AlpacaCompany: A week?! well it is starting to get long. At least I left you wanting more XP Have some more. If you could point out mistakes, please pm me with them so I can fix them :)
TheWatchingEye: 50 buildings in a roman town doesn't sound much to me... but that might be just me. Perhaps he's exaggerating XP. Also I know too little history to make things really accurate, I just try to be a little accurate.

Chapter 26: A new ally
Hiccup slammed the door behind him and dropped himself on a seat near the fire. He was still pissed off and the fact that his leg hurt like hell wasn't helping. He shouldn't have run, he shouldn't have kept on standing after that, or march to the Hofferson house after the whole ordeal with Hoark. He looked over to the door for a second when it opened and saw Astrid and her Father enter. Already seeing the questioning look on Astrid's face he turned his attention to the fire. He gave his throbbing leg a glance, cursing in his mind that he still couldn't leave. No matter what Toothless said, right now he felt like if he didn't leave soon and people would keep up like what Hoark has been doing, he would end up doing something that he might regret.
"I know what you're thinking and there is no way you can leave with that leg in the state it is," Astrid frowned at him with folded arms.
"That's not… urgh," replied Hiccup as he ran his hands through his hair in frustration, "yes I want to leave because I dislike it here, but I also need to leave to keep my sanity. I need to leave to keep people here safe from me."
Felman gave him a skeptical look, but Astrid seemed to believe him, which then surprised her father.
"You can't seriously think he would end up killing people," Felman said looking at his daughter, as the ending of the sentence started to sound less convinced.
"I'm pretty sure I said I killed people when Hoark charged at me," Hiccup grumbled.
"You weren't-," Felman started but the glare on Hiccup's face made him swallow the rest of the sentence.
He gave his daughter a look as if to ask if Hiccup was joking or not. Astrid sighed.
"Dad, when I went after him, he was flying back to the nest with dead Beserkers being carried. So yes, I believe he can kill people and I really do not want a demonstration because some idiots think he is incapable of that. Besides, back when he first woke up he nearly killed Snotlout hadn't he been stopped by Toothless."
Felman let out a sigh and sat down, still looking at Hiccup who was still pissed off. The dragon rider had his attention to the fire again, trying to think of how to leave, especially how to convince Toothless that it was in everyone's best interest. However, before he could come up with a proper plan that would actually work, he felt a soft hit on his head and looked up with a scowl.
"No leaving, you may be terribly good at hiding that it hurts, but I know you're going through a hell of pain right now. You used that leg too much."
Hiccup glared at her, but she wasn't fazed by it, instead she just grinned at him and offered him a hand as a gesture for him to get up.
"Come on," she said when he made no movement.
"As you just said I am going through hell of pain, my leg is throbbing. Why would I get up?"
"Although I said no leaving, I meant no permanent leaving. We could leave for a couple of hours on the back of Toothless," she said and gave her father a sideway look, "that might get you out of that foul mood you're in."
Hiccup had to admit that sounded like music to his ears. However before he let himself be pulled to his feet by Astrid, there was knocking on the door. Felman stood up and when he opened it, he was greeted by Fishlegs. The three looked at the bulky young man who was holding a piece of paper.
"He-hello, I believe Hiccup dropped this earlier," Fishlegs said somewhat uncertain as he looked around Felman over to Hiccup.
Hiccup, by now pulled to his feet, looked at the sheet and recognized it immediately. It was the small sketch he made of an idea he was planning on creating later.
"Thanks," he told Fishlegs as the paper was handed over. He walked back over to his bag and put it in there so he wouldn't loose it again.
When turning around, Astrid was impatiently waiting for him at the door.
"Are we leaving, or are you staying here?" she asked when he lingered near his bag too long according to her.
He rolled his eyes and followed her.
"What is the purpose of that item you sketched?" Fishlegs asked walking next to him as they made their way to the Hofferson barn.
"I will show you when I get to making it," Hiccup said, not willing to go into details of some idea he only just quickly sketched. He first needed to figure out if it was going to work.
In the barn he was surprised to find not only Toothless and Stormfly, but the gronckle that had helped him earlier as well.
Astrid scratched Stormfly under her chin before looking over to Hiccup.
"Toothless or Stormfly?" she asked.
"Both?" Hiccup shrugged petting Toothless under the curious eyes of Fishlegs.
"You better not drop yourself of his back again," she frowned making her way back to the barn doors so to go get Toothless saddle and tailfin.
"You better not drop some information that might make me want to do that when we're up in the air," Hiccup countered giving her a sideways glance.
She opened her mouth to comment, but then noticed his teasing look, turned around and walked away. He looked over to Fishlegs who looked confused. It seemed like he didn't intent to ask and focused on the dragon petting Hiccup was doing instead.
"I have to say, I never expected dragons to be… this friendly. How did you find out?"
"By breaking the circle and not killing Toothless when I had the chance."
Fishlegs looked thoughtful and then as if he realized something, "that time… when you said you shot down a nightfury… you actually shot him down?!"
Hiccup nodded, though even after all these years still not proud on the matter. Toothless saw his concern and licked him in the face. At that moment Astrid returned and handed Hiccup the saddle and tailfin. It only took him minutes for that, since Toothless was just as eager to go back up in the air. He then turned to look at Fishlegs.
"Why don't you try flying one yourself as well?" he asked the boy.
Fishlegs looked somewhat shocked by the suggestion, but didn't outright deny it immediately. He actually nodded after a moment of thinking it over. So Hiccup walked over to the gronckle.
"How about it? Would you be okay with flying with him?" he asked in dragonese looking at the female brown dragon.
She looked over to the Fishlegs.
"He's not going to hurt me?"
Hicup shook his head after which the gronckle agreed. About ten minutes later Fishlegs was screaming loudly as they were going up higher and higher. Hiccup couldn't help to snort at the boy's reaction. Only once they were leveled off somewhere just below the clouds and Fishlegs was out of breath, the screaming died out. Fishlegs still looked somewhat panicked, mumbling 'oh Thor' over and over.
"Fishlegs, calm down. Even if you fall you'll be caught," Hiccup tried.
"Fall?!" Fishlegs exclaimed, "how can you be sure I'm going to be caught. Gronckle's aren't fast flyers."
"But there is Stormfly and Toothless, they're both fast," Hiccup opted as he looked over to the nadder, who looked proud to be called a fast flyer.
"I rather not fall at all," Fishlegs mumbled and clung on to the gronckle some more.
"I could give you a demonstration," Hiccup started but was quickly interjected by Astrid.
"Don't you dare!"
"Oh come on, I even got my own wings just in case," Hiccup whined as he rolled his eyes already distancing himself from Astrid by shoving himself backwards.
"I'm serious, Hiccup. Seeing jump of a dragon once was enough for me already. I don't want to see you plummet down a second time only to maybe for it to go wrong," Astrid replied, giving him an angry look over her shoulder.
"So basically you're saying you don't trust Stormfly to catch me?"
These words shocked her and she seemed to not have a reply for them. Hiccup grinned at her before looking over to Stormfly, before letting himself fall down off Toothless once again. Stormfly immediately reacted and dove down, soon grabbing him out of the air with her claws, swinging him back up in the air until he made a rough landing on her back. Avoiding the death glare he was getting from Astrid, Hiccup looked over to Fishlegs who looked impressed. He climbed to a sitting position and grabbed hold onto one of the many spikes on Stormfly's head.
"You're in trouble, she looks really angry," the blue scaled dragon said.
"I know," Hiccup laughed uncomfortable, "but if I sit with her, I might end up doing something stupid."
He looked down at the scales of Stormfly and sighed with a pained expression, "so it's okay if she's angry at me. Better having her angry at me than me doing something stupid I'm going to regret. I already figured out I am slipping this morning."
"But Toothless-" Stormfly started, but Hiccup interrupted her already knowing what she was about to say.
"I'm not chasing down a love life that is never going to last forever. Heck, I don't really think I even want to get into another relationship ever again after," he started mumbling and shook his head as if that would remove the memory from his brain.
"But… what about staying… you're not staying?"
"No, not forever. I have friends who are probably thinking I'm dead. Besides, no matter what I will try, I will never fit in on Berk."
Hiccup let out a sigh as he stared into the distance as the words repeated through his mind. At that point he heard something soft and faraway. Confused he looked around in the hope of finding the source. Focusing on the sound he soon he wish hadn't as the word food entered his mind in a raw dragon roar. And as the roar resonated through his mind, images of who it belonged to entered as well. Suddenly he no longer saw the sky but a raw of sharp teeth in a giant head as six eyes stared at him.
"Find new food my dear subjects," it said.
The sound of the voice made him shudder and as soon as the vision had been there, as soon it disappeared and left Hiccup gasping for air. He clung on to the spikes with such force his knuckles turned white.
"Land," he told Stormfly in Dragonese as soon as he could bring himself to talk.
His tone gave away how shaken he was and Stormfly picked that up though she had no idea what had spooked him. She lowered in search for a nearby island. It didn't take long for Toothless and the Gronckle to follow. And the sight of the first land, Stormfly landed without any trouble. Hiccup slid of her back, still trembling somewhat though it wasn't seen by the others. In fact Astrid marched over to him and hit him hard on his arm. Not having expected that he tumbled backwards against Stormfly's side.
"Why must you be so reckless?" she nearly shouted in his face.
He just gave her an uncomfortable smile, not really paying attention to what she was saying. Astrid picked up on that, her anger subdued and made way for some worry.
"What happened?"
Hiccup looked over to Fishlegs, but that guy only had attention for the gronckle. The very thing surprised him yet not. Fishlegs had always been the guy to know a lot about dragons, though now it proved most of that was wrong so he was probably figuring out what was wrong. Also the gronckle clearly was taking a liking to the guy.
"Hiccup?" Astrid said to get his attention back.
"I heard her," he mumbled, his voice still hinting his fear.
Astrid looked shocked and stepped closer, studying him. It made him feel awkward.
"Is… is she trying to control you again?"
She sounded somewhat afraid now herself, something that still felt off when it came from Astrid Hofferson. He thought her question over but eventually just shrugged.
"I don't know," he muttered as he sank down until he sat on the ground, "it was short and sudden. All I heard was 'find new food my dear subjects' and then nothing. Though… I now remember what that that… queen looks like."
He shuddered visibly as Astrid kneeled down in front of him.
"Don't give in to her," she whispered concerned.
"Not planning on that," he sighed looking over to Toothless who was chasing a butterfly.
Of course that dragon had completely missed everything.
He let out a sigh and let himself fall backwards in the grass. First people being idiots and now this. Closing his eyes he tried to calm himself and block out every possibility of remembering more than what the dragon queen looked like. He was glad that he somehow had managed to keep people away from there. Of course he trusted Toothless description, but now knowing himself he felt like even he had underestimated it.
At some point he heard Astrid sit down beside him as he heard Fishlegs in the distance. He wasn't sure how much time had passed until he heard his name being called out. When he opened his eyes it was dark.
"Slept well?" Astrid asked as she looked down at him.
Quickly he sat up somewhat confused that he had actually fallen asleep.
"We should go back," she said as she held out her hand to help him to his feet.
Hiccup took her hand, mostly because his left leg hurt enough to know that if he didn't he would fall immediately if he were able to get up at all that is. Fishlegs was petting the gronckle as he looked over to them. The scaled one looked content and wagged her tail as her tongue hung out of her mouth like a dog.
"You two get along great," Hiccup stated with a soft smile.
"Oh she's absolutely amazing. I cannot believe we never considered this as an option. There is so much we can learn, right Meatlug?" Fishlegs said excited.
"Meatlug?" Hiccup asked.
"Well she needs a name, right?" Fishlegs said, "can hardly call her dragon all the time."
Hiccup chuckled, but nodded agreeing giving Meatlug a smile before walking over to Toothless. Astrid had already mounted him and was giving him a serious look as he climbed behind her.
"Don't you dare jumping off again. I'm serious, you're dead if you do. Am I clear."
"Yes, madam," Hiccup muttered as he wrapped his arms around the girl.
Then they flew back to Berk.
