AN: Fun fact because of writing this again in 2015, I actually had to look up what pop songs were a hit in the UK in 2011; I actually never heard that song before, though I recognise the artist (I was tempted to use "stay awake" by example, instead as I actually like that one); also Boldened text is now for characters speaking in Japanese.
Chapter 4: A Light is Lost
It was an hour and a half, before Rose woke up again.
The bus was only one stop off, from the edge of town, and it's final destination.
She'd have to get at least two more, before she finally made it to light's school, to intercept the Deathnote.
In a way Rose was hoping, the book arrived soon, or she'd have to do a lot of waiting around for it to fall. But then again, she wasn't sure what was going to happen to her, if she stopped Light from getting the Deathnote, so maybe it was best to put it off, if she could.
'What the hell am I doing?' wondered Rose, as she stared out the Window. She wasn't the type of person to get caught up in something as dangerous as this.
But she wanted to do something with "purpose", and in a way this was certainly purposeful.
She soon arrived at the last stop at about 9:15. As Rose got off, she stretched her arms out, she hadn't slept long but she felt full of energy once again.
Turning her head to the schedule she checked for her next bus at 10:30. She had time to look around til then, so with her hands in her pockets, she began walking around the new town.
It was warm again, but without the pleasant breeze she'd felt in Chiba it was a little oppressive.
'England has maybe 3 hot days a year.' mused Rosie, who was tugging on the front of her t-shirt.
She soon took off her jacket, and hung it around her waist, as she continued walking down the high street.
It was certainly smaller than chiba. There were no massively tall buildings near by, and pretty much all the signs were hand written, or printed in Japanese without any English, at all.
This obviously wasn't a very touristy area, even though it was close to tokyo. This was probably the type of area, where normal locals lived.
In a way, it was similar to Rose's own high street. It had basic stores for food, stationery, and liquor. There was a Starbucks, and a few clothing shops as well.
It was however, a bit more run down than Rosemary's own area had been.
She was from an upper, middle class, sort of area, and her local high street was full of converted old style houses, and 200 year old shop fronts.
This area also looked old, but not in a classically victorian way. It was more of run down, low income, sort of area; not dangerous, but certainly not affluent.
There was paint peeling, from more than a few shops, and graffiti behind bins, and benches. But people were happily walking around, and talking to each other, which gave the area a more uplifting feel to it.
Entering a small market shop, she couldn't read the name of, Rose began browsing the aisles. She purchased a Lychee bubble tea, and began heading back to the bus stop to wait.
Rosemary tucked her drink under her arm, as she checked her notebook.
This bus and the next one, would take about two hours each, and then she'd have to walk for at least another ten minutes, to find Light's school if she didn't get lost first.
Rose sighed. "It"couldn't have dropped her off closer could it? She was miles away from Light Yagami. Did "It" just think that dropping her in Japan would be good enough?
She sat down, and slurped her bubble tea, before boarding her second to last bus.
The journey was boring, and Rosemary began wishing she had anything to do besides look through windows.
As Rose looked outside she noted that the neighborhood ,was getting more well off, the further she went along but nothing of interest came about, and she remained bored.
She'd slipped on both buses without notice, but she had stopped adding to her drawing now. Her pen was starting to run low on ink, and she might need that later on.
She wished she'd brought her headphones, or her Nintendo DS, but instead she was stuck with a phone, that was losing charge.
Rose was honestly starting to get sick of travelling. Not physically, but being driven around everywhere was annoying her a bit now, she'd been running around since 10 at night practically, and she really just wanted to get it, over with already.
Finally, after almost twelve hours, she arrived in Light's neighbourhood. It was certainly the richest area she'd seen so far; not like her street, this area was shiny and brand new with alot of modern design.
This made sense though. If her map was right then this whole town was only a thirty minute bus, or a 15 minute train ride to Tokyo; it must've been ideal for commuters.
Slowly getting her legs to adjust to walking, after having been sat down for so long, she checked over her details one last time.
It didn't do her much good though.
Rose went down the wrong road three times, before she started asking random people to help her.
It wasn't until she came across a middle aged woman walking her dog, that she finally found someone who understood her enough to point her in the right direction.
She was wrong about it being a ten minute walk, it had taken Rose closer to 30 Minutes to walk the right way, and it was almost 16:00 by the time she got to Light's high school.
By the looks of things, most people had already left, as there were only a few stragglers left behind.
But if there were still people left behind then that meant Light was probably studying or something, so if the Deathnote had dropped today, she could still find it in time.
Rose looked around the entire school grounds, but couldn't find anything like the notebook she was looking for.
"It must not have fallen yet." concluded Rosemary.
'Now what?' she considered.
Well if it hadn't fallen yet, maybe she should find Light's place. It's not like he could see her after all, and if, when it did come, he managed to get it, she'd need to intercept him anyway.
It had gotten colder now, so Rose untied her jacket, and put it back on like normal.
She then flicked to her details of light; she knew what his address was, she just had to not get lost this time.
'Son of a bitch.' thought rose.
This was taking even longer to find, at least the school had signs pointing to it.
Almost TWO HOURS later, rose finally made it to Light Yagami's house.
It was a nice modern looking home. It didn't stand out from it's neighbours, and it had a sleek, cozy look to it. Rose didn't care much at this point though, she was just glad she'd found it at last, it was going to get dark soon.
Now how was she actually going to get in?
Well she could probably climb the window sill, or something or-
Rosie slapped herself.
Of Course! she could just walk through, the door.
Rosemary'd still have to be careful though if she knocked something over, it would look suspicious.
Carefully straining herself, she pushed through the front door, before tripping on a pair of shoes, and landing on her face, with a bump.
'Ow.' thought Rosemary.
"What was that?" asked Sayu, entering the hallway.
She looked over the shoe, and coat racks, whilst Rosie stiffened, on the off chance she'd see the 21 year old woman lying face down on the floor.
But Sayu shrugged instead, dismissing it as her imagination and went back to watch her teen drama, in the living room.
Breathing a sigh of relief Rosie stood up and took a look around, as she brushed some dirt off her hands, and knees.
It was just as modern, neat, and tidy on the inside as it looked on the outside. Light's dad must've been paid a lot to afford it.
Rose wondered how it was kept so clean, before snorting at the mental image of Light running around with a vacuum cleaner, after every speck of dirt.
she wandered through the living room, past Sayu, taking a moment to admire, that she really was seeing one of the characters from her favourite anime, before snapping herself out of it, and moving on to the kitchen.
It was nice and airy, and helped to reinforce how expensive this place must've been.
In the corner of the room, it looked like Light's mum was cutting up some vegetables for a salad; completely unaware of Roses presence, as she hummed a song to herself.
Rose then left, and headed back to the hall way.
Downstairs there was also a spacious dining room, and a locked room that Rosemary suspected was some kind of study for light's dad.
All in all it looked like a very nice place to live.
Rose then took a gulp, and decided to head up stairs.
She wasn't sure, why she suddenly felt so nervous. Maybe it was just the idea of seeing Light in real life, for the first time.
'Nothing will go wrong' Rosie told herself as she walked up to the second floor.
It was just as neatly laid out as the ground floor. It looked like there were three bedrooms, and a bathroom; just a standard layout.
Only one of the doors was closed, and Rose could hear the faint sound of writing behind the door.
Taking one more deep breath, Rosemary pushed herself through the door.
She managed to avoid tripping this time, but she stopped when Light looked up in her direction.
Had she knocked something over? She hadn't heard anything.
Light stared through her with a puzzled expression, before slowly turning back to his studying, and beginning to write again.
Rose let out a sigh of relief, and moved her arms down before she looked around her.
If this house was neat and tidy then Light took it to an extreme. She didn't think there was a single piece of paper, out of place in this entire room. His bed was made, he had no pieces of clothing lying around.
Rose couldn't be bothered, to even dust things in her room, but this level of tidiness for a teenager, was just weird.
She looked over his shoulder, to see what he was writing but it was in kanji.
There were a few trophies on the top of one of his shelves, and row upon row, of text books.
'Don't you have anything more fun?' she asked sarcastically.
There were his porn magazines she supposed, but it didn't look like he had any DVDs, or Fiction books on his shelves. Did Light actually do anything other than study, and play tennis?
"Wow, you're more boring than I thought." said Rosemary with a slight chuckle, as she ran her finger over some of his text books.
Accidentally knocking one over.
"Oh Shi-." said Rose. Quickly pulling her hands back, and jumping away as Light turned around to his book shelve.
"How did that happen?" asked Light with a raised eyebrow, no doubt wondering how the book had fallen off his shelve.
Staring at the shelf for a second he sighed, before getting up to put it back, before turning back to continue studying.
At the other side of the room, Rose put her hands down. She'd avoid messing with his stuff for now. But what was she gonna do next? She could probably go out and find a hotel, but she didn't need one, so that might be a waste of money.
Glancing over at Light she wondered if it'd be creepy if she stayed.
He wouldn't know she was here, but he was at least 4 years younger than her, and not knowing she was there still made it a little creepy.
'Ah screw it!' thought Rosemary.
It wasn't like she was going to peek at him Jerking off, or something. She'd just hang around his house, until she found the Deathnote, and she'd be on her way. Besides this way, she'd be close to hand, when the Deathnote landed on earth.
With that thought in mind, Rose sat down and leaned against his window, before glancing at Light again. Yeah she was older than him now, but she had just been 15 when she'd first read the manga, and she might have had a crush on Light back then.
Rose chuckled, his good looks didn't make him, any less boring though. It was amazing how your thoughts on a character, could change.
Leaning her head back further, Rosemary relaxed, before slowly drifting off to sleep.
She was awoken however, at the sound of a chair crashing.
Quickly sitting up she looked around, before seeing Light's chair in the corner, as he stared shocked at his TV screen like he'd…
'Oh No.' thought Rose, seeing a black notebook on his desk.
She'd been too late.
Rosie began breathing harshly. Oh god she'd been too late, she couldn't take it from him right now, that would draw far too much attention.
She began grasping her hair. Oh god how would she do this? Soon he'd lock up the deathnote and it would be harder to find and, and…
As Rose was panicking, Light was trying to rationalise what he'd just seen; he had to test this again.
With that in mind Light grabbed his coat, and the notebook, before telling his Mom he was going out for a second.
Rose snapped out of her thoughts, as she realised where he was going.
"No!" yelled Rose, though he couldn't hear her, as she scrambled to get up.
"You can't kill anyone else!" she yelled as she tried to force her way through his closed door, only to hear the front door slam.
She slid down the door sobbing.
It had started already.
She sat still for a few minutes, choking on her tears as she tried to calm down.
She'd been so close.
If only she just hadn't lost her way around town, or she'd found a faster train or bus she could have.
*sniff*
"Saved him."
'No.' thought Rose, wiping her tears.
He wasn't Evil at first, she could still do this.
"Think Rose." she murmured to herself.
She couldn't stop him from using the Deathnote at all, but she could convince him to get rid of it in the first place.
Putting her head in her hands, she pondered.
Wait!
She could just steal it, when he went to bed.
He'd only just got it, so she could take it tonight out of his drawer, without that hidden drawer in place.
Rosemary smiled, and then he would lose all his memories of it in the first place.
Standing up with renewed confidence, Rosemary decided to walk around for a while till then it was only 20:47 after all.
Meanwhile Downtown:
"It Works."
