A/N: Writing this immediately after. Leaving you with that as a cliffhanger would have been a dick move honestly. Not much to say really but for anyone curious, my super serious writing notes look more like this:

Dod she speak before she died? FUCKING CHECK HER WALLET MATE FOR ID, SHE DON'T EXIST BROV!
SHE EATS BUT DOESN'T POOP!
L asked why but force is like what bro don;t ask people that.
Doesn't sweat, but hands are healing.
Feels confuzzled.

Really makes you question my writing ability, doesn't it? :)

Chapter 18: The Test

L was picking from a bowl of M and Ms, as he watched the screen.

Mr Yagami was very tight lipped.

Nothing much had happened yet.

Mrs Yagami had come back from meeting a friend for coffee that morning, and neither Sayu, nor Light had come back from school yet.

"Do you know what time your son, and daughter usually arrive?" Asked L.

"Well Sayu normally stays behind, and does Piano. I haven't heard her play in quite a while, but I remember her being quite good. Since he's started studying for the entrance exam, Light's been coming home straight away almost everyday." Explained Mr Yagami.

L nodded.

"And do you think there's a possibility he's involved in the case?"

The chief shut his eyes.

"I don't know what to think anymore. This morning I saw my son, for what I thought would be the last time, and at no point did I get any sense that he was Kira. I thought I had truly believed it, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to accept something like that."

"I see."

They continued watching, until Sayu turned up.

"Watari. How is the Deputy's household?" Asked L on his Laptop.

"His wife has come home, and had begun doing some housework. She turned on the Radio ten minutes ago." He replied.

Also nothing suspicious.

"How is Rose?" He asked, garnering a look from the Chief.

"She hasn't made any moves to leave. She's mostly been observing, though we've occasionally conversed." Confirmed Watari.

"Has she said anything incriminating?"

"No."

L expected as much.

"Thank you Watari. Please continue monitoring." Said L, turning his attention to Mr Yagami.

"Do you believe she may have framed your son?"

"I'll admit it would make sense. She was at my house during the hiatus, and she could have planted evidence against him."

Mr Yagami frowned.

"But part of me feels like I just don't want to accept that Light could be a killer. Call it gut instinct, but there's something about her that doesn't seem capable of this."

L nodded.

"Yes I'm inclined to agree with you. Regardless it's not a possibility we can overlook."

"I want to solve this case more than anything. If watching my family, will let me know for sure if Light was involved. I'll do it." Insisted the Chief.

Rose had been watching the Deputy's house for a couple of hours now.

'This is so boring.' She thought, with a groan.

How the hell did L do this for days? How the hell did Watari for that matter? He looked like he'd only just started monitoring.

"Not the most entertaining work I'm afraid, but unfortunately you're a suspect." Said Watari, with an apologetic smile.

That was true. Whilst there was nothing physically keeping her there, if she left it would just make her look worse, which was the last thing she needed right now.

Rose almost wished she could be chained up. At least then she could be kept in a different room.

She decided to start drawing in her notebook.

It wasn't like anything else was going to happen.

Not when Kira was on the screen across the hall.

Light arrived home around half past three. He lived close to the school thankfully, so it never took too long. University was going to be a whole other story.

"Oh Light Welcome back. How was school?" Asked his mom from the kitchen.

"Hey Mom. Same old, Same old. Everyone's pretty stressed about the exams coming up."

"Oh are you going back to studying again then?"

Light laughed.

"Yeah it probably seems silly, but I really want to stay on top of things. I might take a walk first though."

"That's no problem. Dinner isn't going to be for at least another hour." Confirmed his Mom.

Nodding, Light walked upstairs to his bedroom door.

After checking the handle he pulled out the pencil lead in the door, and walked inside.

"I don't believe it." Said Mr Yagami.

"Even after hearing it, I never would have thought he went to such great lengths to guard his room. What could he be hiding in there that he doesn't want anyone else to see?"

"For a 17-year-old kid, I wouldn't say this kind of behavior is particularly abnormal. When I was his age, I did strange things, too." Mentioned L casually.

"Have you ever talked to your son about the investigation?"

"Of course not. I've never once revealed classified information to my family." Insisted Mr Yagami.

He frowned.

"Besides, I don't get to see them too often these days and usually as soon as I get home, all I can do is sleep."

L nodded.

"I understand."

Walking into his room, Light dumped his bag to the side for a second.

He stretched his arms, before sitting at his desk, and opening his second drawer.

'Chalk.' He realised.

Noticing his final security check had been breached.

No one in his family would ever go so far as to pick a locked drawer in his room.

This meant one thing.

Someone had been in his room. More importantly than that, Light was almost certain that Rosa was now in contact with the police. This wasn't good, but at least he'd had the foresight to move the Death Note.

Not letting this revelation show on his face. He grabbed the textbook he kept there, and flicked through it.

"It might be a good idea to go over the basics a bit too. I haven't looked at this stuff in a while." He mused out loud.

"Hey Light you haven't said anything in awhile? What's going on?" Asked Ryuk.

"What time is it though? I wanted to hit the store before I started studying?" Said Light looking at his watch.

"Light are you ignoring me? Is this because I ate all the apples in the fruitbowl? Cuz you never made it clear I couldn't do that." Argued Ryuk.

"I should probably change and head out now. I've got time to go over it when I get back." Decided Light, as he changed into something more comfortable.

"Stop ignoring me!" Complained Ryuk.

"You're a very talented draftsman." Said Watari after a few hours.

Rosemary had kind of forgotten he was there to be honest. She'd been so absorbed by her drawing.

'Thanks I was actually an Art student before I died.'

Watari frowned.

"Forgive me I didn't mean to bring up bad memories."

Rose shook her head.

'Don't worry about it. There are moments where I feel sad, but the way I see it I'm doing a lot more with my death than most people will do with their lives.'

Watari chuckled.

"That's a rather bright way of thinking about it."

He smiled.

"I don't personally believe you're as guilty as the task force would like you to be."

Rose nodded.

It was nice to know at least one person was still on her side.

"So you want me to look for cameras?" Asked Ryuk.

"Or you could just go without apples."Shrugged Light.

"Whoa now let's not be hasty!" Exclaimed Ryuk.

"Anyway if I do that, what are you going to do about Rosemary? If she's working with the police aren't you in trouble?"

Light frowned.

"Well it's not an ideal situation. But if she's following a set series of events, then I may have thrown her off course, and that'll give me time to do my next move."

"You mean like when you dismantled the drawer?"

"That's right, and no doubt without the notebook, the rest of the task force will be sceptical as well. I mean after all they've worked with me before, and the idea of a killer notebook is kind of silly." Explained Light.

"If they react like I think they will, they may even accuse her of planting evidence against me. Regardless of wherever it's true, or not, it'll certainly cause some distrust between them. Not to mention it'll put a wrench in any investigations they make involving me."

"You've really thought this through huh? But what if Rose comes back to see you directly? You'd be made completely unaware, and she could tell the police what you're doing." Pointed out Ryuk.

Light smirked.

"If she told them the notebook was in that drawer it won't matter what she tells the police I'm doing. At best they'll think she's my ally, and at worst she could be accused of framing me, and helping the real kira."

"Impressive. You've managed to make a woman with knowledge of the future, almost completely useless. And here I thought you two were friends." Mentioned Ryuk.

Light supposed they had been.

He would never admit it, but there was a part of him that honestly did like Rosemary. He had found it easier to talk to her than a lot of people. Maybe because she was at least aware that he had a much darker edge to him, so he never had to hide as much.

But that didn't change the fact that she could get him killed.

"She's a threat to my work. I won't let her stop me from becoming the God of the new world." Insisted Light.

Rose was thinking.

What could she tell them to convince them she wasn't working with Kira?

If Light had really moved the notebook, then she would have no idea where it could be now.

'He'll probably want to keep it close, but that doesn't narrow things down at all.'

She may have known Light well. But she couldn't predict every move he was going to make, by changing things up just slightly Light had regained every advantage he had before.

'Think, think. The notebook is off the table for the moment. What else is there?'

Her eyes widened.

Watari, was tapped on the solider a few moments later as Rose handed him a piece of paper.

Watari smiled and called L.

"Ryuzaki."

"Yes, has something happened?" Came the reply.

"Rose has predicted Light Yagami's behaviour. Would you like to hear it?"

There was a pause on the other side.

"Please tell us the prediction."

"She claims after having dinner. Light Yagami will spend the night studying. He will grab a bag of chips from his cupboard and study until he goes to bed. Whilst he does this two criminals on the news will die."

"Is that it?" He responded flatly.

Rose frowned.

Well he didn't have to be a dick about it. She knew it wasn't the most amazing reveal, but it was still something if it actually happened right?

"She claims that the way he manages to kill is via a portable television, hidden in the chip bag.." Continued Watari.

"...Thank you Watari." Said L, ending the conversation.

"Well what did he say?" Asked Mr Yagami.

"Rosemary has made a prediction about your son's next actions." Explained L.

"What?! Well what was it?"

L bit his thumb.

"She says your son will start studying after dinner. He'll grab a bag of chips for a snack, and continue studying, without turning on the TV or watching the news."

L glanced at Soichiro.

"During that time two criminals will die."

"But if he doesn't watch the news wouldn't that make him innocent?" Asked Mr Yagami.

"According to Miss Green he's concealed a portable television in the bag. The idea being he'll be able to kill criminals right under our noses." Explained L.

If this really was Light's plan, L couldn't say it was a bad one. If things panned out as planned however, Rosemary might be able to clear her name.

"Then what should we do?"

L paused for a moment.

"It's too risky to send someone in now to check the bags. Your wife, and child are in the house. If we don't find anything we'll just end up exposing ourselves, and alerting them to the fact that they're being watched."

"So what we're just going to ignore this?" Asked Soichiro, angrily

"If Light is planning to kill this way, then he'll probably get rid of the evidence by throwing it in the trash. You go home in another two hours. If you can check the bag yourself, we'll know if anything is amiss."

He looked at the chief sternly.

"If we compromise ourselves, this entire operation will be for naught."

Mr Yagami looked solemn, and sighed.

"I see. I suppose there's no other way around it, is there?"

"Light I found a camera!"

'So they really did bug this place.' Thought Light, as he flicked through a magazine.

He had to admit, he never thought the investigation would go this far. If they ever got caught, they'd have a scandal on their hands to put it lightly.

"Light come down for Dinner!"

"Oh yeah, okay Mom, I'll be down in a sec!" Replied Light closing the magazine, and hiding it on his shelf.

"Man the front covers are always misleading." He moaned rubbing the back of his head.

As L watched, he felt even more suspicious.

'There's something contrived about this whole scenario. The only reason he had those measures on the door was so that no one would see his porn.'

"I can't believe my son's looking at those magazines!" Exclaimed Mr Yagami.

"I'd say this is fairly normal behaviour, but it almost feels forced. Your son's been nothing but perfect this entire time, he's almost too well put together." Mused L.

"That's my son you're talking about! We still haven't found any true evidence that vilifies him."

"No, but we've found enough to make him a suspect. That's why I insisted we put in cameras after all." Said L, before picking up a cookie.

Still he couldn't help but wonder. If Light Yagami had enough foresight to hide the notebook.

What else could he have changed from Rose's timeline?

'If Light managed to move the notebook, could he have the foresight to change his plans for the portable television?' Wondered Rosemary.

But with what? Rose couldn't think of anything.

He needed to kill criminals in front of L.

How else could he possibly do that?

"Uhh. Hideki Ryuga. I swear he's perfect!"

Light rolled his eyes good naturedly, before taking a seat at the table.

Both households were sitting down for dinner.

"Watari, please contact the broadcasters and tell them to play our message." Ordered L offscreen.

"Huh?" Wondered Sayu, as the screen changed.

"ICPO? They're saying that in response to the Kira murders Interpol has decided to dispatch a force of 1,500 investigators to Japan." Read Sayu, as her program was interrupted.

"1,500 investigators? Wow."

"The ICPO sure is stupid." Mentioned Light offhand.

"I mean there's no point in making this announcement. If they are gonna send all these people here to investigate, shouldn't they keep it a secret? Even the FBI agents who were secretly investigating were killed by Kira. Why, would this be any different? If you ask me, this is nothing more than a desperate attempt to shock Kira in the hopes that he will reveal himself somehow. Quite frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Kira sees right through this."

Behind the cameras L was smiling.

"Hmmm. Your son's clever, isn't he?"

"Well, yes." Said Mr Yagami.

"Thanks for dinner, Mom." Said Light grabbing a bag of crisps.

"You're eating a bag of chips? You just had dinner." Pointed out Sayu.

"It's a late night snack for studying." Insisted Light as he walked upstairs.

"There's the bag!" Realised Mr Yagami.

Yes it would be interesting to see how this would pan out.

"I think that's it, Light. I found all the cameras. I didn't even realise I could get tired, but you better listen to me explain it." Said Ryuk as he landed on Light's bed.

"All right. It's time for me to hit the books." Said Light, as he sat at his desk.

Ryuk explained the camera system. Not surprisingly, most of them were concentrated around his room.

Any normal person would slip under these circumstances.

'But it won't be that easy with me, L. This is the closest you get!' Light opened up his bag of crisps.

"I can't see anything."Said Mr Yagami.

"No you wouldn't. If Rose's theory is right, then this is a brilliant set up." Said L, as he bit his thumb in thought.

Light was glad he'd made adjustments now.

He'd already thought of ways to kill under surveillance. He originally came up with a plan to use a bag of crisps to hide his movements. But if Rose really was working with the Police, then the safest course of action was to assume she knew what his first move was.

And to scrap it.

The bag of chips in his hand, was completely ordinary.

His school bag on the other hand was another story.

He had a bag of sweets in his bag, already opened, and seemingly having been there for days. He wouldn't reach for one as often, just once in awhile. To make it seem like he was mixing up his palette. Inside was a small portable television he would watch.

'If Rosa told them about the chip bag, it'll just add more to my innocence. I won't even acknowledge the school bag. I'll only grab a piece of candy when I look through it for one of my text books. By not even attempting to throw it away, I'll diminish any suspicions about it. After all it'd be dangerous for me to keep something like that around.' Thought Light with a smile.

'And because the times of the death are already written down, I can make it seem like Kira is writing down names rapidly in a row, when it's really taking me multiple trips to record them.'

This was going perfectly as planned.

As L watched he kept his eyes on Light's movements. He hadn't turned on the TV or computer. He kept going for the Chips at a suspiciously slow pace.

"Could he really be killing people?" Wondered Mr Yagami.

L was thinking that too, but something seemed off. He occasionally reached for his bag to pull out a book, and something else.

Sweets?

If Kira was killing with a portable TV it would be stupid to keep it in his bag. There were a million variables that could go wrong.

'Is he even going to it often enough to write anything down?' Wondered L.

It should be taking him twice as long to write down names. There would surely be gaps between the victims deaths.

"Ryuzaki."

"Yes, what is it, Watari?"

"A few minutes ago, a bank clerk being questioned on suspicion of embezzlement and a purse snatcher being held in a detention center, were broadcast on the news, they both just died of sudden inexplicable heart attacks." He explained.

"What was the amount of time between each death?"

"Less than two minutes."

'If Kira wasn't killing by using the chip bag as a cover, it would be too slow' Considered L. If Kira was using his normal routine, then Light would almost have to be using the chip bag.

"It was like she said." Murmured a ghostly Mr Yagami.

This case must have been murder on his nerves.

"If you don't mind me asking. It would probably be best if you went home now to check the contents yourself."

He nodded.

"Right. Maybe seeing it for myself, will finally let me believe it."

Mr Yagami walked out the door, as Light threw his crisp bag in the bin.

He didn't make a move to go near his school bag.

The criminals had died as she predicted, but that didn't mean they'd find anything to actually convict him.

'If he's thinking one step ahead of me, then how am I going to think one step ahead of him?'

Well she couldn't, was the problem.

That's why she'd tried to find L in the first place.

But she was running out of information she could use to convict him.

The next part of the story involved them meeting face to face, and now that all of her checks were used, she had to just hope the Crisp bag didn't change from what she knew.

If it did, she wasn't sure what she'd do.

As Mr Yagami walked home, his head was in turmoil.

Would he really find what Rosemary had said he would?

He closed his eyes.

'I just don't know anymore.'

It took him longer than usual to walk home, as he found himself dragging out the inevitable.

When he got home he was tired, but he couldn't sleep yet.

Everyone else had gone to bed.

Removing the security checks, he opened Light's bedroom door slightly. He checked to make sure he was asleep. When he was one hundred percent sure he wouldn't wake him, he tiptoed to his son's waste basket, and took out the crisp packet, with as little crinkling as he could manage.

Opening it up downstairs he found-

Nothing.

Soichiro sighed in relief.

"L are you seeing this?" He asked via headset.

"Yes."

Yet another one of Rose's predictions had failed to come true.

But yet again it had proven to have some truth to it.

"Does this mean my family is cleared?"

"It doesn't make sense that Kira would kill two petty criminals right after their identities were broadcast." Mused L.

"Huh." Said Mr Yagami.

"I know it's only the first day after the cameras were installed, but Yagami household seems almost too innocent to me."

It seemed Mr Yagami was going to have a hard night's sleep after all.

"There was no device in the chip bag Rose." Informed Watari.

Shit.

Well that made this more complicated.

"I wouldn't lose faith yet. L is motivated by justice. He will do whatever it takes to clear your name." He insisted.

Rose pouted.

Great, she had to rely on L of all people to get her out of this mess. He probably thought she was an idiot for letting Kira know about the future.

'But how could he have known I was back? He saw me leave that time? What could have possibly convinced him I was still a threat?'

It just didn't make sense.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Watari take a break." Ordered L walking in.

Watari nodded.

"I will see you soon Miss Green." He said with a smile before leaving.

Rose looked at L confused.

"We've agreed to take shifts watching you. Since I don't usually sleep, I'll be watching you over night." Explained L.

So she was being babysat now?

Apparently L didn't like it either.

"It's annoying, but we still haven't cleared you as a suspect thanks to your blunder."

Her blunder? Her fricken- This guy!

Rose started scribbling down.

'Look asshole. I didn't tell Light anything! He thought I was dead! I don't know how or why this has happened.' She wrote, throwing it at him.

This time he caught it.

"Why would he think you're dead?"

Rosemary stiffened.

Could she trust him.

'You have to promise to NEVER try to use it against me!'

"I promise." Said L immediately.

'I'm serious if you do this...I die.' She wrote looking at him desperately.

He stared back with his cool black eyes.

"I promise." He said again.

Rose paused before nodding.

She then explained it.

'I told you I have a purpose, and if I fulfill that purpose, I move onto the afterlife. But it's more than that. If I give up on life, or accept that my purpose is already done, I don't get an afterlife, I just go.'

Rosemary frowned.

'When I last saw Light, he told me he'd given up the notebook. I believed it, no criminals were dieing, I never saw the shinigami again, I really believed it. I left thinking that I'd really done it.'

L read over her words with a solemn look on his face.

"Then how are you back?"

Rose chuckled.

'It's funny. I met someone there, or something that managed that place. They didn't have an answer I just did. Guess I can't even die right.'

They were both quiet for a moment.

"Well I'm glad, I got to meet my first friend."

Rose smiled.

'Glad to meet my thirteenth.'

"Don't rub it in." He said flatly, though he still smiled.

"By the way Rose if you don't mind, I'd like to try teaching you sign language."

Rosemary's eyes widened.

Really?

"It's different from region to region, but if you know some of the basics it may help you communicate better." He pointed out.

Rose nodded enthusiastically.

Anything that made it easier to talk to people would be a godsend.

They attempted for a few hours but quickly ran into a snag.

"Rose, I don't want to discourage you or anything, but you're terrible at this." Said L bluntly.

She glared.

'Are you sure you're not just a bad teacher?'

"No, I'm pretty sure it's you." Said L standing up.

"But now's probably a good time for cake anyway."

Rose stuck her leg out, as he was walking past her. But as L started to trip, he turned his fall into a forward roll.

She was left gaping.

L turned with his hands in his pockets, and a seemingly innocent smile on his face.

"Do you want to try that again?"

Rosemary stuck her tongue out.

"That's not very mature."

'You're not very mature.'

"I rest my case."

They walked to the kitchen in a good mood.

'This isn't like you.' Thought L.

Since when did he banter? Watari?

L frowned, no that was more chiding, if they were having that sort of conversation.

He looked at Rose who was smiling.

Something about her, put him in the mood for this.

'Is this how friends act?'

L had seen shows obviously, read books, even seen police officers exhibit strong friendship, but it was very different to experience it himself.

This wasn't a good time to have one though. Rose was now a suspect in his case, and the majority of the task force was against her.

Being friendly towards her showed a blatant conflict of interest.

'More importantly than that, she doesn't have the profile of a schemer. Either she's a very good actor, or she's been set up somehow.' He concluded.

"That's my cake." He said noticing her going for the strawberry cream cake.

"You know there are others."

'You said I could have any cake.'

"I also said not to go for that one." L reminded her.

Rose defiantely took a bite.

"You know you're not doing a very good job at convincing me you're innocent."

'You can't convict me for eating cake.'

"I'm pretty sure it'll hold up in court." Said L, as he reluctantly reached for a slice of red velvet cake instead.

If anyone claimed he spent the rest of the time eating, glaring at her cake, he'd deny it.

"We're going to continue monitoring Light Yagami for the next few days. Unfortunately, I suspect if he is aware of our presence, that we won't find anything." Mentioned L.

"Do you know what's supposed to happen here in your timeline?"

Rose looked up.

'Yeah but what if it's wrong?'

"The best way to hide is in plain sight. If I were Kira, and I knew that someone knew all my moves I'd change them. Now the instinct of most people would be to look for something radically different, but few would look for something that is virtually identical. If you tell me what his moves are, there's a good chance his current moves will be similar, and we may still catch him." Explained L.

Of course! Why hadn't she thought of that? Why come up with a whole new plan, when he could just change one minor thing to have her, and the police completely out of the loop?

Rosemary started writing.

'He keeps pieces of the notebook in his wallet. Since you're no longer trailing him, he can watch tv, and memorise the names, and write them as he walks.' She explained.

L frowned.

Tailing Light Yagami again would be risky, especially if the task force found out.

'But it'd be a move that he wouldn't expect, and it will help the lie that hundreds of FBI agents are coming to Japan. As for the Wallet, there's already a good chance there's no longer any piece of the notebook in it.'

But that didn't mean he couldn't still ask Mr Yagami to check.

"Thank you Rose. This is useful information."

Rose nodded.

"Feel free to let me know if you're tired." Said L, putting his plate in the sink.

"I don't usually keep normal hours, and we have to move early to a new hotel room tomorrow."

Rosemary shook her head.

'I don't actually sleep that often. Like once every thirty six hours or something. I don't really get why, but I'm guessing it's to do with being like I am.'

'Fascinating.' Thought L. This might be able to help him with his research. At the minute he was grasping at straws.

"I see. I don't suppose you'd want to continue our lessons then?" He offered awkwardly.

Rose smiled, and nodded.

'Who wouldn't want to work with the really cool best detective?'

"I believe it's super cool actually."

She punched his arm.

"I'll retract my offer if you keep that up," He said rubbing his arm, before they went back to the monitoring room together.

...

"Light, are you up yet?" Light heard his mom call.

"Yeah. I'm awake."

"Today's garbage day, so if you got any, bring it down with you, OK?"

"Kay, I'm heading out now anyway." Said Light, grabbing his bag, and taking the rubbish downstairs.

"Alright, but don't be too long." Warned his Mom.

"I won't." He said as he threw his rubbish in the bin. He then rummaged through his pockets, and grabbed a few wrappers, before he went through his bag, and pulled the crumpled sweet bag, and some old papers, and chucked them in the bin as well.

"May as well chuck this too, while I'm at it."

As Light was about to leave, he looked over his phone just long enough to make sure the garbage truck destroyed any evidence.

Then he started walking.

"Well, I can't say for sure whether you're extremely generous or just a spoiled brat. But didn't that mini LCD TV cost you 400 bucks?" Pointed out Ryuk.

He had a point.

Any other student would be destitute. But Light was good with his money, besides it was a small price to pay, if it meant keeping him out of prison.

But now he had new problems to face.

How was he going to keep killing in public?

If L was working with Rosa then by now he probably would have figured out that Light was only making minor changes to Rosa's original timeline.

Which meant he was going to have to be more creative with his work.

He already had a spare bit of paper in one of his notebooks. It was actually quite a departure from his wallet set up, so he wasn't too worried about it being discovered.

The problem was he couldn't use it to kill in public, like with the wallet.

But maybe he wouldn't have to.

It was afterall a school notebook, and Light knew they hadn't bugged his entire school.

All Light had to do was find a time and place to write a few names, he'd memorised from the television.

Even if they really were sending in over 1000 FBI agents, getting one into his school was a whole other level of stalking.

He could continue being the top student in Japan, and kill right under L's nose.

Meanwhile the task force would grow more suspicious towards L, and continue investigating him.

Eventually Light would be in a position to know his name, and eliminate him.

It was just past seven O'Clock in the morning and Rosemary was now asleep. She'd stopped focussing on L's lesson hours ago, and eventually he'd stopped trying to teach her.

He was almost reluctant to move now.

It was strange at first, having her lean on him.

But for a ghost she was surprisingly warm, and soft.

But now was also a prime time to research more about her, before they had to move to their new hotel.

Gently prying her off of him, L made a move to leave, before hesitating for a second.

He went to her old room, and grabbed one of the covers for her, before heading towards his laptop.

'Lack of sleeping, a need for purpose, solid form. I just need a little more to narrow it down.' He thought.

"Sir, are you sure you want to bring in another FBI agent to tail him." Asked Watari, who was finished directing people to move equipment.

"If Kira isn't expecting it, it could give us the edge we need." Said L, not taking his eye off the screen.

He almost felt like he was getting somewhere.

"And what if Kira finds out?" Asked Watari.

The unanswered question hung in the air.

Would there be a repeat of the FBI massacre?

"They will only be monitoring him for a few days. If we don't find anything in the Yagami household we'll be removing the cameras." He turned to Watari.

"All I.D will be counterfeit." Insisted L.

"Do you think you'll find anything?" Asked Watari, curiously.

L bit his thumb.

"There's a three percent chance that Kira will only make minor alterations to his initial plans, but we can't rule out the possibility of him shaking things up unfortunately."

'The fact that Rose only has knowledge of a fixed timeline doesn't help.'

"I see. Should I wake up Miss Green for the journey?" Asked Watari.

"No, let her sleep. She's only been out for an hour." Said L.

Watari couldn't help but smile.

His charge could be sweet when he wanted.

"Understood sir." Said Watari, as he left the room.

L continued to scroll through his search. It didn't look like he was going to find much this time either, so it would probably be best to get ready to go himself.

His eyes widened.

Maybe not.

"Spiritual guides hmm?"

L smiled.

He may have just found something.

"Hmm what?" Mumbled Rose, as she woke up to a gentle rocking.

Was she in a car? What?

Hey eyes widened.

'Oh shit, have I been kidnapped?'

She immediately relaxed when she looked to the front to see Watari.

"Good to see you awake Rose, I hope you slept well." Said Watai.

Rose was surprised.

'Man L was not kidding about him, and Watari keeping a constant eye on me.'

She didn't think she'd been invisible to both of them in a while.

Of course if she really didn't want either of them to see her, she could probably keep them away,

But then again, she liked them.

"We're just coming up to the new hotel headquarters. It's an inconvenience to move at the minute, but unavoidable I'm afraid." Mentioned Watari, as Rosemary looked out the window.

She knew this place she was sure of it.

This was one of the hotels she'd looked at trying to find L.

'Well at least I guessed his kind of taste right.' Thought Rose, who was a little annoyed that she hadn't caught him here weeks ago.

As they pulled up, Watari opened her door, and helped her out.

She smiled in thanks.

As the walked up the stairs, Rose could already tell that this was a very luxurious place.

But that did nothing to prepare her for the suite.

"Whoa." She said aloud.

It was delicate, almost silver in colour tone. It was somehow even larger than the last place, and had some beautiful cream sofas, and a small mountain of sweets awaiting the detective.

"I hope you enjoy the new headquarters." said Watari with a smile.

Rose had a feeling that she was going to do just that.
