Remnants of the Wild

Return to Hyrule

Daruk landed with a heavy thud; being the first to land. The others soon followed as they gazed upon the ruins around a dirt road. In front of them was a large, red, Moblin. Jaune charged with his Traveler's Spear and dealt lot of damage, careful to jump away from the beast's swings with it's massive club. Then, the Moblin got a lucky shot in as Jaune was knocked backwards with his aura drained. He didn't let that stop him, as he quickly finished off the beast, letting Yang pick up it's massive club. She tossed it a couple times.

"Hmm...I like it! Thanks hero." She said, winking at Jaune, who rubbed his head sheepishly. Ren, however, took out his Boko Bow and notched an arrow. There was a squawk and Ruby's shout of "Birdie no!" As Ren harvested the meat from a heron and handed it to Jaune to put away. As Jaune's aura quickly restored while eating an apple, he took notice of a nearby tower glowing orange by a bridge.

Heading that way, they came across some ruins and quickly dispatched three stalkoblins. A couple swarms of Keese tried attacking the group, but were driven off by a few arrows killing some from Ren and Revali. Soon, they came across a lookout manned by a bunch of Bokoblins. Ren and Revali fired upon them with arrows as the rest of the humans used their Shiekah Scrolls to launch bombs until only a couple were left, which were easily dispatched. Ren opened the chest, and got five ice arrows to go with his fire and bomb arrows. Pretty soon, they stopped upon the entrance of Bridge of Hylia. Pyrrha took a glance at this area, and a memory of her training Jaune on how to use a spear flashed in front of her eyes. She held a hand up to her chest as she cherished that memory, starting to understand the emotions that stirred within her.

Upon reaching the center of the bridge, Ren launched a couple of bomb arrows to destroy the Lizalfos there as Jaune took out the last one. Pyrrha picked up a Lizal spear as Ruby picked up a Lizal boomerang. Mipha spotted a fishing spear and picked that up. Jaune, winced as his aura had not yet been completely restored from battling to the bridge. Things got tense as they had to fight their way to the tower, even coming across a rare black Bokoblin; which got Daruk a Dragonbone Moblin club. Upon finally reaching the top of the tower, Jaune inserted the Shiekah Scroll and activated it, which then downloaded the regional map to all of their scrolls. Upon doing so, it activated the Sheikah sensor, which was attuned to shrines Jaune had yet to go into.

The day was ending as they got back into the middle of the bridge, and decided to set up camp as Jaune spotted a Korok above the fountain. The rest of them sat gazing at the landscape.

"You know...this place is beautiful." Ruby said, as she munched on an apple, "Once we beat this Ganon thingy, it will be even better!" Jaune watched the group before hearing a strange whistling sound as a red shooting star flew overhead and crash landed below the bridge. He flew down and saw a chest in a crater on a piece of land, opening it showed a blue neck-piece with what looked like a decorative diving helmet on the back. This was the Salvager Headgear. He put it on, only to jump back as he saw the others behind him looking at him with an amused expression.

"Not a bad look hero." Yang teased, pressing a button on her scroll before everything turned blue and they once again were on the Great Plateau. Jaune looked around. "This time, why don't we actually go to Kakariko." She teased as Jaune blushed, having been distracted by his desire to activate the nearby tower. Upon fighting through the ruins, Jaune's Shiekah Sensor went off, and they soon discovered the Bosh Kala shrine. Ruby tried going in after Jaune, but to everyone's shock, an invisible force-field kept her out, but soon enough Jaune returned...but Ruby still couldn't get in.

Upon the Proxim Bridge, they saw a man staring over the river.

"I may be somewhat used to seeing bad omens by now, but that... Well, let's just say it's badder than most." He said to himself before turning to face Jaune. "We're doomed! I mean, don't panic! Sorry, who are you? Have we met?"

"I'm...Jaune." Jaune said as he raised an eyebrow at the man's eccentric behavior.

"Well, doesn't matter who you are, really. I was getting tired of talking to myself, so you've all come at a good time. By the by, those strange things that popped out of the ground...Did you see them? I'm not talking about mushrooms here! I'm talking about those towers! They seem to have popped up all over the place! And that's not the only strange thing that's happened. Those long-deserted shrines suddenly started glowing! You know what that means, don't you? The end is here!" Daruk rolled his eyes at the man's last statement.

"With all this craziness happening, I've been keeping an eye on that thing." He said, pointing at a dormant Guardian. Just as he was about to ask about it, he remembered the ones on the Great Plateau.

"Yeah. Good idea." Jaune said.

"Yeah. That Guardian is worth watching. It's just like the ones from those old stories. Did you know some of them can move? One of them once chased me down and tried to kill me!" He said.

"That one?" Ruby asked.

"No, it was a different one. That one was closer to the castle but before the forest...When they spot you, they shoot blue beams of light at you! Man, I was so sure that was the end for me. I was prepared for the worst. But I somehow managed to escape into the nearby woods. You think it was my lightning-fast reflexes that saved me? Ha. I wish! Truth is, I just got lucky. Anyway, I hear Guardians like that still wander around Hyrule Castle. Be careful." The man said, nodding to the group.

After clearing out a nearby Bokoblin camp, Jaune spotted a cooking dish. As Mipha handed him a Staminoka Bass she caught, Jaune added a couple stamellla shrooms, and apples. He cooked them while cleaning pieces of wood, ending with Energizing Fish and Mushroom skewers for the group. He then used a palm fruit he got from a crate, and apples to make some Simmered Fruit. As Pyrrha collected the throwing spear, Yang looked over as Jaune stared into the fire underneath the cooking pot. He looked up and smiled and right then, it started to rain. That made everyone frown as the fire went out and they ran off.

The group took shelter in a hollowed out, fallen tree. After chasing a Korok around to the stump of it, Jaune took inventory as the rain stopped They had 21 rupees, 3 Korok seeds, a piece of raw meat, 5 Hyrule bass and an armored carp (thanks to Mipha), 12 apples, 8 Hylian shrooms, 5 stamella shrooms, 1 ironshroom, a restless cricket, a hot-footed frog, 4 pieces of amber, 4 opals, 51 Bokoblin horns, 30 Bokoblin teeth, 3 Bokoblin guts, 2 Moblin horns, 3 Moblin teeth, 2 Lizalfos horns, 1 Lizalfos talon, 7 Chuchu jelly, 30 Keese wings, 1 Keese eye, 7 Ancient screws, 6 Ancient springs, 2 Ancient gear, and 6 bundles of wood.

While it was a lot better than what they started out with, Jaune knew that if not careful, they could quickly go through their resources. As they approached the closest tower, a plume of smoke caught their attention, and they soon arrived at a merchant sitting by a campfire. As Jaune bartered, selling and buying items, they soon found themselves with 673 rupees. As they left, Yang nudged him. "So Hero..how did you get so good at bartering." Jaune looked confused for a moment, before a memory flashed in front of his eyes.

"Sisters..." He said, bringing a hand up as a slight headache made him wince as he tried to remember more about his past. "There's no way we could use the amber and opals anyway...not here."

Yang gave him a teasing smirk, "Promise to get us some jewelry made later on." When he nodded in agreement, she reeled back. "You do know I'm joking, right?" Jaune just shrugged indifferently. As night fell, Pyrrha had them sit around the merchant's campfire instead of being constantly ambushed. Jaune decided to cook some more meals, such as Energizing Mushroom Skewers (twice), Hearty Meat and Mushroom Skewers, Tough Fish and Mushroom Skewers, Energizing Fish and Mushroom Skewers, and then grounded together the Restless Cricket with four Bokoblin horns to make an Energizing Elixer.

"So he's cooking, protecting, and watching out for us." Pyrrha said quietly as Mipha, Ruby, and Yang sat by her, "He's acting like...our...husband." A bright blush spread across the faces of those four ladies, as Jaune's attention was completely focused on the cooking pot; thus completely missing what Pyrrha said. As they moved closer and closer to the tower, Jaune's spiked Boko club broke, and he replaced it with a throwing spear. They stopped for a moment as Pyrrha and Mipha started correcting Jaune's form, much to the amusement of Daruk and Revali. AFter a while they arrived at the Dueling Peaks tower and activated it, gaining a map of the area. Now, they could see the path to Kakariko Village.

After a long, arduous climb, Jaune arrived at the Shee Venath shrine. Inside, he read a stone plaque. "The Shrines atop these peaks share a connection-their memory the answer to the other's question. Commit to memory before you start, lest, a failure, you will depart." Jaune rode up an elevator and made note of the current location of orbs, making a little drawing in his Scroll. Though before he exited, he did pick up a serpentine spear for Ruby-who had the least amount of weapons currently with only a club and axe. He groaned as he gazed up the neighboring mountain to the closest shrine. Upon finally reaching the other peak, he found another Korok before heading into the Shee Vaneer shrine. He had found the other Twin Memory puzzle. Making another drawing in his Scroll of the original placement, he then moved the orbs to the other shrine's positioning. Then, the door to the monk opened. After receiving the Spirit Orb, Jaune teleported to the previous shrine. Once he got the Spirit Orb from that shrine, Ruby literally sped up to him right in front of his face "HEY JAUNE! I FOUND ANOTHER SHRINE!" She shouted.

Checking the map and seeing a pin in a spot before the tower, he found out that they did indeed find a shrine. "We can't get in it, for some reason..." Ruby shyly said, poking her fingers together. Moving to that shrine, they noticed it was by a building with a horse head-shaped top. Seeing the stars in the eyes of the girls within teams RWBY and JNPR, Jaune gave a half hearted smile as the guys knew that they would want a horse. Upon being sidetracked to that shrine by yet another shrine, Revali's eye started twitching in irritation. After Jaune got his fifth Spirit Orb, they moved to the stable and learned how they operated in a system across Hyrule, and how to catch horses.

As Ruby and Yang were gushing over the possible horse names, Jaune cooked some Hearty Fried Wild Greens, Energizing Fish and Mushroom Skewers, and Tough Meat and Seafood Fry. Afterwards, as the rest of the group waited in the stable, Jaune went out to look at where the tower for the region was...

And came back on top of a brown horse with a chestnut mane and tail and white markings above her hooves. "So what do you want to name her." The stable manager asked.

"Abella." Jaune said, nodding as the manager double checked the name. It meant "Breath", and she moved quickly. Though she wasn't the strongest horse, she was very fast and had good stamina. Once Abella's gear was on, Ruby started gushing over how cute she was as Abella snorted and backed up slightly, still not completely tame.

"Tower has Guardians around it. I'm not going to be able to get there at my current strength." He said before he took Abella out to the field. After about an hour, Jaune came back, just as it started to storm when night fell. Ruby latched onto Yang as lightning struck around the stable. Jaune stood inside, pacing with his spear as he grumbled about the storm. Then something weird happened. Dark smoke rose from the ground as Midnight approached. Then, they heard Ozpin's voice as the sky turned red.

"Be on your guard. Ganon's power grows...it rises to it's peak under the hour of the blood moon. By it's glow, the aimless spirits of monsters that were slain in the name of the light return to flesh. Everyone...please be careful."

With that, the sky returned to normal.

"Well...that was a thing..." Yang said, clenching her fist of all the foes beaten coming back. All of their battles had been for nothing. Jaune rubbed her shoulders before they teleported to the top of the Dueling Peaks at a Shrine, and Jaune parachuted down, landing in front of the Ha Dahamar Shrine. As the others watched him go in, Yang remembered something...Jaune had once comforted her a similar way when she was homesick...but she didn't remember where her old home was.

"I think we're close to Kakariko." Revali said as they moved to stand by another stable near the shrine Jaune went into. "According to the map, we should just follow the path. By the way Jaune, how many Spirit Orbs do you have now?"

"Seven" Jaune said, and all eyes went on him, "I'm hoping there's a Goddess Statue in Kakariko." He said, "Didn't want to backtrack everyone. I mean I didn't even get anything important out of one. Just this climber's bandana!" He said, holding up a dark red bandana. Pyrrha took a look at it and had him take off his Salvager's headgear and put on the bandana.

"I overheard something in the stable Brother. There's some kind of treasure in the area, above the Little Twin River!" Daruk said.

"If the rumor is true, that should keep our finances in good order." Lie Ren said calmly as they headed towards the two rivers by the stable. After finding the Toto Sah shrine, they arrived at the source of the Little Twin River. Ren climbed up around the tiny waterfall and blasted a weak rock apart with a bomb. In chests were amber, opal, sapphires, a flameblade, and a luminous stone. As the group was heading back to the stable, they encountered a gigantic skeletal creature called a Stalnox. It was a hard-fought battle, but in the end the beast fell, and weapons fell from it's body. Ruby took the Giant boomerang, Blake took the Knight's Halberd, and Jaune took the Thunderblade. Here, Ruby caught her own horse. He was brown with a white marking covering his lower snout, with white markings above his feet and a black mane and tail. His name was Chestnut.

"Way to go sis!" Yang cheered as Ruby caught it. After she registered him, she took him out for a run around the field to bond with him, as Jaune did with Abella. After she boarded Chestnut, the group continued towards Kakariko. They sold any gem had found, leaving them with a total of 1,618 rupees. Then...they came across a gigantic Korok.

"Shalaka?!" It yelled, "You! You can see me?!"

"I can see you." Jaun replied.

"Shala-zah! Shala-Kah!" It sang out, "It's been 100 years since anyone has been able to see me! I'm Hestu, and I need your help! Those monsters over there stole my beloved maracas! I think they're still there on the other side of those rocks. I can't use my powers without them. Shoko...So please! PLEASE get my maracas back from them!" Jaune charged at the three blue Bokoblins, his aura taking a decent hit when he got pinned in, but somehow he defeated them and recovered the maracas. Hestu was really glad to see them.

"Those are my maracas! Please giiiive them to meeeeeee!" He sang out. After Jaune did so, Hestu continued to sing out. "SHAAAAAAAAA-LAAAAAAAAH-KAAAAAAAH! But wait! There's something wrong with my maracas! The Korok seeds inside are gone! How am I supposed to dance now? Shoko...If I had just one Korok Seed, I could sing, dance, and use my powers to help you. You see, I have the power of inventory expansion." It was then Jaune remembered that he had collected 9 seeds so far. After the group expanded their inventory (Jaune choosing to expand his shield and weapon inventory while Pyrrha expanded her weapon inventory twice for example), Hestu remembered something.

"Shaka! Look at the time! I need to get back before Grandpa yells at me. Shoko...Sorry, I have to go. But I still need Korok seeds, so bring some to Korok Forest if you find any!"

After what seemed like a distance, exactly one week after leaving the Great Plateau, at 10:45 am, they had arrived to Kakariko Village. "Ouch." An elderly lady said, "I twisted my ankle...hold on." She gingerly looked up and gazed upon the group before her eyes fell upon the devices on their hips. "By the way...where did you get those devices?"

"Well...you see? We woke up in the Shrine of Resurrection with them." Jaune said.

"I see! That means you are the heroes of legend. We Sheikah have been waiting for your arrival. Before anything else, I insist you meet with Lady Impa. Lady Impa's hose is below Lantern Falls-just over there." She said, pointing at the largest home in the village. "In any case...It was a real honor to meet all of you. Heh, I suppose you're used to that, having lived as long as you all have."

As they approached the house, Yang spotted and pointed out a clothing shop. Pretty soon, Blake, Nora, and Ruby scattered to get more rupees as Yang dragged Jaune inside. There, he got a Hylian trouser, Hylian Tunic, and Hylian hood along with Stealth tights and a Stealth Chest Guard. After selling a bunch of monster supplies, he also got a Stealth mask. Yang, Ruby, Pyrrha, Nora, and Weiss chose to by the complete Hylian outfit, as Blake and Ren bought the Stealth outfit.

Once they were changed out of their ragtag attire, they approached the largest house.

"All of you! Who are you?! How dare you trespass upon Lady Impa's abode! Hm? Are those...Sheikah Scrolls? But that would mean..." With that the guards relaxed their stances. "Please forgive us for behaving so rudely. Of course we have heard the legends from Lady Impa herself. Please, friends...Go ahead and step inside." Jaune was about to, when he noticed a smaller Goddess Statue. There, he prayed as the eight Spirit Orbs left him and his aura reserves increased. Yet, he could feel a lot more still locked away. As he led the group to the door, a young Sheikah woman looked up.

"A MAN!" She said, cowering, "Wait..is that...It's...a Sheikah scroll! Could you be the hero my grandmother told me about? What was his name? Ja...Jau...umm..Oh, it's not that I forgot...I'm just bad with speaking. As for me, my name is Pa...Paa...Paay...Oh! My name is Paya! Phew! I got it out...I know I should be able to say that easily, seeing as how it's my own name and all. I'm so...sorry. Anyway, my grandmother's been awaiting your return ever since I was little. Plea...please hurry inside."

Once Jaune threw the doors open, a small elderly lady sitting cross legged with a large hat spoke. "Ah...so you're finally awake! It has been a long time. I know I'm older than when you all last saw me...but you do remember me, don't you?" As the group stared at her, she continued. "What is the matter? You are all looking at me as though I am a stranger to you. Those eyes...They lack the light of familiarity. It is I, courageous ones. Impa. Surely you must at least remember the name Impa?" As they glanced at each other uncomfortably, Impa realized something.

"I see...so you all have lost your memories. Well, it matters not. In fact, that may actually be a blessing in disguise for the time being. My friends, please come a bit closer." They moved up in front of her. "A hundred years ago...Yes, A hundred years ago, the kingdom of Hyrule was destroyed. After you fell, Advisor Ozpin's final wish, to see the fallen Princess Zelda's task completed, was to place you in a sacred slumber. And then...all alone...Alone, he went to face Ganon. Before he went nobly to meet his fate...he entrusted me with some words he wished to say to you. I have been waiting 100 years to deliver this message. HOWEVER! These words, which he risked his life to leave you...Well, if you are to hear them...you must all be prepared to risk your life as well. But I am afraid that burden may be too much to bear while you are still without your memories."

"We promised the spirit of the King we would defeat Ganon. We are prepared to risk our lives." Jaune said, eyes hardening with conviction.

"Ha. Not a memory to your name, yet you are all as intent as ever to charge forward with only courage and justice on your side. you all have not changed a bit. Once a hero, always a hero. Very well. Since you all have lost your memories, I will recount for you all that has happened...The history of the royal family of Hyrule is also the history of Calamity Ganon." Each person listened intently as she recounted the legend of the Hero of 10,000 years ago.

"A hundred years ago...in preparation for the foretold revival of Ganon, we strove to follow the lead of our ancestors of 10,000 years prior. But...in the end...Despite our best efforts and careful planning, we underestimated his power. In order to avoid ever making that grave mistake again, the advisor left you all these words...Free the four Divine Beasts!"

"The ancient Sheikah weapons?" Urbosa asked.

"Exactly." Impa said. "Divine Beast Vah Rudania, controlled by you Daruk. Divine Beast Vah Medoh, controlled by you Revali. Divine Beast Vah Ruta, controlled by you Mipha, and Divine Beast Vah Naboris, controlled by you Urbosa. It would be extremely ill-advised to face Ganon without the power of the Divine Beasts to help you...You all must infiltrate the Divine Beasts that were stolen away by Ganon 100 years ago and bring them back to our side. More information about these Divine Beasts can be found by locating the four races scattered across Hyrule." Orange dots lit up in unmarked locations on the map. "The Sheikah Scrolls will guide you on your way. You must go where it tells you and meet with each leader there...It seems to me that your Sheikah Scrolls are not yet complete. The devices Advisor Ozpin left you all is your guide and also your memory. Now, let's see...Someone at the research lab in Hateno Village might be able to help you..."

"Hateno Village?" Pyrrha asked. Another dot appeared on the unmarked map to the east of West Necluda. "The location shining on the eastern edge is Hateno Village. It is a small village...one of the very few places that avoided suffering significant damage during the Great Calamity. You all are Advisor Ozpin's only hope...and Hyrule's, as well...You all cannot turn back now. Follow your hearts and seize your destiny!"

Their journey had just gotten even larger than they first imagined.
