Day One First Impressions
I never thought boredom could take the shape of a landscape or lack there of seeing as Forks, Washington is without much natural visual dimensions, besides the endless expanse of trees. I had never imagined a place that had so much greenage. It was strange being in a place that seemed to be unaltered compared to my home in New York. Though the climate is similar due cloudy and gloomy, Forks beats that city in the amount of rainfall by ten fold.
This was going to be a wake up call for me, moving to a town that barely had a population that exceeds 5,000 from a place that is a buzzing hive of 8 million. In my 17 years I had visited many remote places, though they had barely prepared me for this move. When my father's staff advised him that I would need to complete high school to take on my role in our family's company I was outraged. It was my ideas that created the money that paid these unimaginative sheep-men's salaries. Even though I possess honorary degrees from prestigious institutions in physics, mechanical and electrical engineering, these fools somehow found a loophole that convinced my father that I would need to spend time in a high school setting. Though there were other reasons to send me to the North West, this was a good cover story no matter how much it pissed me off. When Dad did present me with the schools in the area, Forks High stood out for nostalgic reasons. My mother went there, only for a year. So I picked Forks because it would have some kind of personal importance. I wanted to see what she would have seen, to experience the atmosphere in a school she attended. I sighed as the driver stopped the car.
It was 8:17 so I was already late on my first day, but it really didn't matter to me all that much. There was no teacher in this school that could teach something I didn't already know, and besides the school was heads over heels to have someone with my notoriety in their student body. It wasn't every day the son of a multi-billionaire enrolls in a small town public school. As the black suburban came to a stop outside the front of the school I saw on the marquee that had on it "Welcome to Fork's High Jaxon Stone", I chuckled to myself. My assistant Trish looked at me like I was insane.
"Jax, you are taking your banishment surprisingly well, '' Trish said with a hint of sorrow in her tone. I sighed. "There is no point in dwelling on it, the sooner I get this over with the sooner I can go back to where I belong. What do I have today anyway? I don't know what I am supposed to do here" Trish took out three pieces of paper, one being a map of the relatively small school. The second was my class schedule, and the last was a paper that needed my fathers signature, though I just used the stamp that I had of it.
"Your first class is a Junior level english class that it appears you are already tardy for, but first you need to go give this parental acknowledgement forum to the front office."
"What are your plans seeing as I wont be needing you today and for the foreseeable future?" I asked. "I will be going back to Seattle and starting my new post there, managing the public relation team, though if you need something please don't hesitate to call me Jax." In the last eight years Trish had always been there for me and she was like a big sister to me though my real sister was in Paris for her new clothing line debut, Trish was the best and she kept me on track, since the dark days. I nodded, "I will if I need something. Will the movers have my stuff here when I leave school today?" "Yes, all your stuff will be here, though I don't understand why you choose a warehouse to live in. I mean you could have bought a house closer to town and something that looked warm at least." I shrugged, "I like the open concept and the view reminds me of home." Trish nodded, "Ok you have delayed long enough, get to class. Oh you might need this, since you don't want a driver anymore." Trish hands me a car key. "There isn't a point in having a driver out here." I looked at the key. "The Mclaren?" I asked with my eyebrows going up, "A little ostentatious don't you think?" Trish nodded and laughed, throwing her hands up. "It was the first off the truck. The rest of the cars you selected will be in your warehouse this afternoon." "Ok, well I am off then." I said.
I opened the door and hopped out into the rain, something that I would have to get used to seeing as it rained almost 320 days out of the year here. I looked over to the student parking lot where my black Mclaren 600lt was being parked by one of the company employees. That was going to draw a crowd forsure at the end of the day. I would drive something more lowkey tomorrow.
I turned my attention back to the school building, it was definitely a dated building and it was tucked in a cut out, surrounded by the never ending forest of giant trees. I walked into the main building where I was greeted by what I assume was the school paper staff, because there was a flash from a camera as soon as I walked in. "Here we go." I said under my breath
"Mr Stone it is a pleasure to have you here!" A middle aged woman said with a gleeful smile. "I am Ms Greene the principal of Forks High." "It's my pleasure to meet you" I said with my warmest voice that I normally reserved for the paparazzi. "But please call me Jaxon, Mr Stone is my father." That old cliche joke made everyone present laugh. I was curious how the students and faculty would treat me, with me being who I am, and it is exactly as I thought, they were all going to be shallow and fake like most people are to people of my background. I was used to this, so in return I would be fake as well.
rambled on and on about the values of the school and how they were one of the top scoring schools in the state of Washington. I really could have cared less but I kept my face looked in an expression of interest, one I had practiced many times over the last few years going to boring stockholder and board meetings. The day went by slowly. It was literally like some cosmic entity was playing with the playback speed. All the students couldn't believe that they were going to school with the "Jaxon Stone" the heir to "StoneTech". Every class the teachers would either kiss my ass or glare at me for the distraction that was me. I couldn't blame the other students, to them I was someone famous and they ate that shit up. The first four classes had been pretty much the same. The lectures that the teachers were trying to teach the class were outdated, so I had been right in my assumption that I wouldn't learn anything. The English class hadn't been too bad, after the teacher calmed down for me being late on my first day, though my charming smile did make her and the rest of the female students flush. I was surprised that the main focus of this particular english class was focused on reading the classics and I was actually okay with that, meant I could just let my brain wander for the hour.
The rest of the classes were less than ideal. The trigonometry class was nothing new to me, the government class was tiresome and the teacher was a wantabe freedom fighter, though his lecture was unorthodox it was very hollow. The fourth class was Spanish and it more or less went the same way though in Spanish.
Lunch came around 12:30 and to be honest I wasn't exactly hungry and the food in the cafeteria didn't look exactly appetizing. I was sitting with a kid named Jermey Stanley, he was in most of my classes and after all the showboating he had done in third period, he started to seem like an okay guy. He was an athlete and we were talking about the current football season, he was a Seahawks fan so there was that. We were sitting with his friend group: a rather chatty girl named Mckayla Newton, there was a kid with shaggy blonde hair glaring at me, I believe his name was Logan Mallory. Across the table was a shy kid that I recognized from this morning named Allen Webber. There was another girl named Taylor Crowley that was flirting with me and it seemed to make the Mckayla girl annoyed.
Most of the girls wanted selfies with me for what I am assuming was proof that they met "Jaxon Stone" . That did get tiresome but I wanted to be polite in this new school. Halfway through lunch I was answering questions of no importance when I noticed Jermey staring at a group of students at a table on the other side of the cafeteria. There were five of them at the table, and they all appeared to be pale like never been in the sun. There were three girls and two guys. I noticed the brunette first. She was pretty, actually they all looked good, but this girl looked like she hit the gym regularly. The guy next to her was probably about my build and height though he wore his long blonde hair in a ponytail. There was something strange about the blonde girl, she looked like she was in pain, maybe she was cold. The dark-haired boy had almost a buzz cut, and he appeared to be staring off into space. The last girl was smaller, probably about 5'2'' and she had long reddish hair. That's when the redhead turned and we locked eyes for a second before we both turned our heads. I had trained myself not to show embarrassment but that didn't mean I didn't feel it, I had not meant to be rude. Jermey noticed my sudden movement and guessed what I had done.
"You wondering who they are?" Jermey said with a know it all tone in his voice. "Yeah I don't mind a little gossip." Jermey laughed, "Those are Doctor Cullens adopted kids, they moved down here a couple years ago from Alaska I think." "So this school does get new students. I was starting to think I was the only new kid you guys have had." Jermey and Mckayla both laughed. "No they moved down here freshman year, and they all kind of keep to themselves. The blonde guy that's Royal and the brunette to his right is Eleanor. The smaller guy with the black hair is Archie and that's his girlfriend to his left, I think her name is Jessamine." That caught me off guard. "Didi you say girlfriend?" I was a little thrown for that. I knew that technically I was in the backwoods country area but I hadn't expected that. "Yeah actually they are all like together, Eleanor and Royal are a thing too." Mckayla said. "We think the Doctor is like some kind of matchmaker or something." That was strange but I guess since they aren't biological siblings it's okay. "What about the redhead?" I asked with an uninterested undertone to my voice and in all actuality I really didn't care but this pointless conversation made the time move faster. "Oh, that's Edith, she doesn't really talk to anyone."Jeremy said. "She acts kind of stuck up if you ask me." Mckayla added. Then the bell rang to signal lunch was over. I took out my class schedule to see what I had next. It was out of habit, I had already memorized the schedule and the map. Mckayla looked at me and asked me what my next class was. "My next class is Biology with Banner." I responded dryly. "Oh me too, I can take you if you like?" and she looked at me hopefully. "Sure that would be great." I was hoping this girl wasn't falling for my nice facade. I hoped all these girls would soon grow tired of me because in all actuality I wasn't a good person for them to become smitten with.
Mckayla jabbered about something and my responses were automatic. She didn't really have anything interesting to say, neither did anyone else in this place for that matter. We arrived at the Biology classroom and seemed like a nice enough lady that enjoyed science so maybe we could get along. I actually enjoyed biology so maybe this refresher might be fun. Mrs Banner was looking for the textbook she had for me on her cluttered desk when I noticed that the redhead girl, Edith, was in this class and it appeared that she had the only free seat next to her. Well at least if this class did become boring I would have a nice view. I stepped closer to the desk that we would be sharing, and that was when the girl suddenly went rigid. I thought for a second I had done something or she saw something to be afraid of. Maybe she knew someone that told her stories about me, but then my better judgement caught up with me and that wasn't possible. I sat down in the free seat and started to listen to the lecture. It was just a recap of the previous unit and of course I knew the material. In my peripheral I could see Edith glaring daggers at me, she appeared to be frozen and almost in pain. Maybe she was a friend of that blonde haired kid Logan from lunch. It wasn't the first time that I dealt with someone that didn't like me, there were instagram pages with thousands of followers that hated me, but that comes with the territory when you are famous. The hour ticked by and Edith barely moved, it was kind of offsetting and it made me put my guard up. Why was I worrying, no one in this room posed any kind of threat to me, especially with my training, it was everyone else that needed to be wary of me.
When the bell rang for the next class change Edith rushed out of the class. My final class was gym and that was okay except I didn't want to change in the locker room, not that I was ashamed by my body, in contrary I didn't want to freak anyone out with the scars the marked my chest and back, and some of the tattoos that were a little to gothic that painted my upper chest and left shoulder. Luckily Coach Clapp believed my lie that I had a bad leg injury and let me sit out. These small town people were easy to lie to. I didn't enjoy lying but it was necessary sometimes. Coach Clapp let me leave early so I could drop off the class schedule that I had done today to see if I might need to change it some. I was content with the schedule. Though I kept thinking about that redhead from Biology and what her problem may have been. I got to the front office and when I opened the door there was Edith and she still seemed on edge. I could hear her voice and it was actually almost angelic. I stepped to the side to not block the door. Edith was talking to the middle aged man who I assumed was the school secretary. "There has to be something else, surely fifth period biology cannot be all." her tone seemed to be a little bratty. She was trying to change the class that we shared. So my assumption that she didn't like me was close enough. I guessed it was a little late to make a schedule change this late into the semester with it being mid October.
That's when I heard the door to the office open, someone was dropping a note in a metal bin, and that very moment I noticed Edith glaring at me again. Yeah she seriously didn't like me. She turned back to "I can see that it is impossible. Thank you." she said bitterly. She turned on her heel and marched out of the office swiftly. I just stared off after her. I turned my attention to and informed him that this schedule would work fine and I left the office to head to my car.
I was right this morning when I assumed that the McLaren would draw too much attention. There was a growing group of guys about four people deep staring at my car. They were all stunned and gawking at the car. Some were taking photos of it and some were listing off the specs. I thought it would be funny to spook them with the remote start. The V8 engine roared to life and the guys closest to the car jumped back. I chuckled to myself as the group parted to let me through to my car. I opened the doors and there was louder chatter. This car did have its visual appeal. I got in the car and shut the door. I noticed across the lot a volvo and it had to be Cullen's car. I could see that Royal and Archie were not immune to my car because they too were staring at it. I could see Edith in the driver's seat glaring in my direction. I had enough of her childish actions. I revved the V8 engine, making people cheer and in a sense challenging her like a lion roaring. That's when she drove the Volvo out of the lot. I put the car in drive and pulled out of the parking lot and turned on to the road that would take me to my new house.
