Chapter 1 Rookie

During the early morning in a small town known as Pallet Town a 14-year-old boy named Ash Ketchum was getting ready to start his adventure and become a Pokémon trainer. Ash was one of three people who would be gaining their starter Pokémon from the world-famous Professor Oak.

Ash had one goal in mind and that was to become the Champion of Kanto. In order to do so he would need to beat all of the Elite Four members who were regarded as the strongest Trainers in Kanto, and with their defeat only one more obstacle in the way of his Dream, Lance the Dragon Master, the current Champion of not only Kanto, but Johto as well, but before Ash even thought about taking on the Elite Four members he would need to win a Pokémon Conference, which would give him the right to challenge the Elite Four, to do so he would need to get 8 badges from the Gyms spread around Kanto.

Although Ash would be realistic and realize he probably couldn't do all that in the next year, he would use this year as a stepping stone towards his goal and to introduce himself to the Pokémon world.

"Ash, breakfast is ready!" called Ash's mother Delia Ketchum. Delia was a single mother who worked with Professor Oak as one of his assistants at the laboratory studying Pokémon.

Ash quickly grabbed his hat and went running down the stairs and with a quick good morning began eating with one thought on his mind. Each new trainer that was sponsored by Professor Oak would be given one of the three starters and Ash already knew which of the three Kanto Titans he wanted.

First was the grass starter Bulbasaur, the starter that was easiest to raise out of the three, but no less strong. A Pokémon that was great for stopping and harming opponents with its spores which would come in handy when capturing other Pokémon with its final evolution Venusaur regarded as the strongest Kanto grass type.

Then there was the water type Squirtle, the starter which was the best defensive option with their hard shells that only became stronger with evolution. Along with great defense, they could hit hard with their water attacks being able to penetrate steel, and powerful jaws. Once they reached their final evolution Blastoise, they would be a danger to any trainer.

But neither of those two were the ones Ash wanted. Charmander, the fire starter which relied on their strength and speed was the one Ash wanted. Since he was little kid and had watched the pseudo-dragon Charizard leave fields in flames after battles on television his choice had been set. The current champion of both Kanto and Johto, Lance had a Charizard which was regarded as his second strongest after the dragon master's own starter, his pseudo-legendary Dragonite.

As Ash was eating, he glanced at the television which was showing the news going on in the Sinnoh region were there had been a new champion, the youngest in Sinnoh history at that, crowned at seventeen years old. Sinnoh had allowed trainers to gain their license at twelve years old over the fourteen in Kanto. Ash mind trailed off as he started to think of how he would be now if he had been able to venture off at twelve.

"Ash, I'm going to head off to the lab now, do you have everything packed? "asked Delia, grabbing him out of his thoughts.

"Yea mom I've got everything ready. I'll meet you over there once I'm done." he quickly answered back.

As Ash arrived at the Lab and rang the doorbell, an assistant was over quickly to open the door and lead him down the hallway. When he entered, he saw another person who he had known as his childhood friend Gary Oak, the grandson of Professor Oak.

"Look who finally decided to show up, thought you were going to chicken out at the last minute." said a smirking Gary.

Ash proceeded to roll his eyes and smirk back "Someone's got to keep an eye on you and beat you down everyone now and then." Ash fired back.

As Gary was about to reply back an older man in a lab coat walked into the room with a smile.

"Morning boys, ready for your starters?" asked the older man.

"Of course, gramps we've been waiting for years now." said Gary, with Ash offering a good morning and nod in return.

"Very well." said professor Oak as he placed a tray with three poke balls on the table.

"As you know I will be giving you both a starter Pokémon along with a few poke balls to help you out in your travels, but first things first." said professor Oak as he reached into his lab coat and pulled out two devices before handing them to both boys.

"These are called Pokedex, which will give you information of any Pokémon you scan and give more details when captured, which will help me study the Pokémon as well. The Pokedex will also act as your identification if needed, can be used to transfer or spend money you have earned and also set up official battles when doing wagers." claimed the Professor.

"The third trainer who was going to come in today ended up deciding not to become a trainer after all, so with that being said, lets meet your starters shall we."

With three quick flashes of red light, three Pokémon stood in front of the boys. As quickly as the three starters appeared Gary was in front of the water type Squirtle.

"Sup Squirtle the names Gary and I plan on winning the Indigo conference. Think you got what it takes to help me lead my team?" asked Gary who smirked as soon as Squirtle started nodding quickly matching Gary's smirk.

Walking up to the orange lizard Ash smiled and said "Hey Charmander my names Ash and I want to become the Champion of Kanto and I think you could help me achieve that dream one day. I'll need a strong starter to act as the leader of my team and can't think of anyone better than you, so what do you say?"

Charmander smiled back and nodded as his tail flame began to grow and wave side to side. Ash was quick to grin back and proceeded to scan Charmander with his pokedex.

Charmander the Lizard Pokémon. The flame on its tail can be used as an indication of Charmander's health and mood, burning brightly when the Pokémon is strong, weakly when it is exhausted, wavering when it is happy, and blazing when it is enraged. It is said that Charmander dies if its flame goes out.

This Charmander is male and has the ability Blaze which Powers up Fire-type moves when the Pokémon's HP is low.

Moves are Scratch, Ember, Smokescreen, Bite, and Dragon Dance.

"You're a tough one huh Charmander." said Ash with a smile getting a small roar from Charmander.

"Hey Ashy-boy, now that we got our starter Pokémon watcha say we have a battle?" called out Gary.

"Alright let's go outside then." Ash quickly said.

As both made ways outside with the professor following, they made distance from each other with both their starters quickly going in front of each other.

Professor Oak was quick to say "Begin."

"Use tackle." said Gary

Squirtle began to run towards Charmander who quickly dashed out of the way

"Dragon Dance Charmander." called out Ash.

Charmander stopped and started gathering draconic energy throughout his body although it was very slow.

Gary was quick to reply with a "Water gun and follow up with tackle."

The water gun sprung out of Squirtle's mouth and hit Charmander directly who cried out in pain and then was smashed by Squirtle's body.

"Get up and use Ember Charmander." Ash said quickly already very worried.

"Counter with Water gun"

Charmander slowly got up and fired back Ember that was countered by a Water gun which overpowered the fire attack and once again hit Charmander forcing him onto the ground once again.

This time Charmander was knocked out.

Gary was quick to grin and walk forward with Squirtle who's head was held high and said "you're going to want to work very hard if you want to keep up with Squirtle and I Ashy-boy" as Ash recalled Charmander to his poke ball and spoke encouraging words to the ball

"Yea, Charmander took a lot longer than I thought he would with Dragon Dance." Ash replied with a frown.

"It will take a while before Charmander can use Dragon Dance efficiently. Maybe until he's evolved as it will be hard for him to gather draconic energy so young." pondered Professor Oak.

"Come with me to the lab Ash and we will heal up Charmander."

"Well, I'll see you later Ashy-boy, gramps. Ima head out now" said Gary as he began to walk away with a wave.

As Charmander was being healed, Ash found his mother and began to explain what has happened so far.

"Well, it was only your first battle with each other, once you train more it'll be better outcomes, I'm sure." replied Delia with a smile.

"Yea your right mom, we just need work together more and get some experience, next time it won't happen again." said Ash pumped up.

Professor Oak entered the room and handed Ash the poke ball, Ash immediately sent out Charmander. Who when released and looked up at Ash showing a bit of sadness in his eyes. Ash gave him a soft look

"Don't worry buddy this was my fault I shouldn't have jumped into battle with you so quickly without finding out how much control you have over your moves. We'll learn from this and go on and next time when we battle them the results will be different, okay?" said Ash.

Charmander smiled with a nod and started waving his tail.

"Hey, do you want a name?"

Charmander looked at Ash confused.

"Like a name how my name is Ash to make you special." Ash explained.

Charmander looked thoughtful for a moment than nodded to Ash with a smile.

Ash smiled back and began to run through names for the next couple of minutes until he landed on the one.

"Inferno?"

Ash grinned as Charmander nodded eagerly

"Inferno it is."

Oak and Delia smiled at the two.

"Oh, Professor Oak, I've got a question actually." said Ash

"Yes, my boy?" asked the Professor

"I wanted to know if it would be okay for me to borrow your Alakazam?"

"May I ask why?" Oak replied with a raised eye brow.

"I have saved up money for a while now and I wanted to get to Fuchsia city so that I could enter the safari zone before heading over to Pewter city." answered Ash.

Oak nodded in understanding

"Very well it would be good for him to stretch his legs, all he days now these days are read, read, and read." replied Oak with a chuckle as he pressed a button he pulled out of his coat.

"This button informs Alakazam whenever I am in need of his assistance." replied the Professor as he noticed the look from Ash as Alakazam appeared next to him.

"Hello my friend, would you mind taking Ash to Fuchsia?" asked Oak.

Alakazam looked at Ash for a moment before nodding his head.

Ash smiled and replied with a thank you.

Alakazam touched Ash and then the next thing Ash knew he was in front of a Pokémon center. He looked back at Alakazam and saw a brief blink of yellow before he was gone. Ash grinned, he knew professor Oak was a champion a long time ago but his Alakazam was still considered one the strongest psychic Pokémon in Kanto second only to Saffron city's gym leader Sabrina's Alakazam.

Walking around Fuchsia, Ash decided not to go around and explore, he would be back in a few months anyways, so he headed straight to the Safari Zone.

Once Ash entered the safari zone building, he went straight to the employee at the desk.

"Hey, I was wondering if I could get into the safari zone?" asked Ash.

"Yea, it cost 500 poke dollars which will give you 4 hours to explore and 30 safari balls, your allowed one Pokémon out at a time with you, no attacking the Pokémon, and every time you capture a Pokémon they will be transferred over here until you come back where we will transfer the Pokémon into one of your own poke balls. Extra safari balls cost 50 per and each lost safari ball from your original 30 will also cost 50. Any questions?" asked the employee.

"I got it thanks." Ash replied handing the man his Pokedex. After receiving it back and grabbing the safari balls, another employee led him to a gate.

"If you haven't returned in four hours then we will send an employee to look at for you just in case anything happened." said the employee.

Ash sent a nod and walked through the gate.

Ash was quick to release Inferno next to him.

"Hey buddy we are in the safari zone and we've got 4 hours to find a few new teammates, also we can't attack them, so I'm going to trust you to talk to them and help convince them to come with us alright?" and got a smile and nod back from Inferno.

As they were walking, they saw multiple kinds of Pokémon from Rhyhorn, herds of Nidorina and Nidorino, to Exeggcute. None of which caught his eye so he continued to walk through the areas.

Going through the grassy fields and marsh stomps, Ash hadn't found anything that really spiked his interest, so he headed towards the forest.

3 hours into searching with no luck, the duo were going through the forest and stepped on a stick, and then they heard a quick splash and glanced over to where a large pond was and blinked. Sitting on the edge of the pond looking at them was an Eevee. Eevee were rare Pokémon and Ash didn't even know that they could be found in safari. This would be a great capture since Eevee had so many different type's it could evolve into. Ash slowly started to walked over to the brown Pokémon.

"Hey Eevee." Ash said slowly with Inferno popping his head out from Ash's back who started waving. Eevee looked hesitant but offered a yip back in reply. As Ash walked over, he kneeled in front of Eevee and started to talk.

"So, my name is Ash and this is my partner Inferno. I just became a Pokémon trainer today and was hoping to catch a few Pokémon in the Safari Zone before I headed over to my first Gym battle. My goal is to become the Champion of Kanto and I was wondering if you would be interested in coming with us? The training will be hard, but you'll get a lot stronger, and I could help you evolve into which ever form you want."

Eevee looked to be considering the offer and then began to yip at Charmander who then began to conversate with Eevee. After a short while Eevee looked up at Ash and smiled before nodding. Ash smiled back and grabbed a Safari ball.

"This will let me capture you okay, so hold still for a minute. "said Ash as he reached forward to touch Eevee with the tip of the ball, and was surprised when Eevee jumped out of the way. For a minute Ash thought that it decided to change its mind before he saw Eevee look towards the water and begin to yip at it. Ash was confused and didn't understand what was happening. That was until a Pokémon poked its head out of the water.

Ash looked at it and his jaw began to fall down slightly.

Dratini.

Right next to Eevee with its head poked out of the water was a Dratini. That explained the small splash Ash had heard earlier. He couldn't believe it. Then taking a closer look at Dratini his jaw fell even further. He realized Dratini had a different skin color. Normally Dratini had blue serpent body, but this one had a pink one. Right in front of him was a Dratini, the only native dragon type to Kanto, but not only a Dratini, but a shiny one.

Shiny Pokémon were something that very rarely happen. It's over a one of a million chance of it happening. Scientist have researched greatly but can't seem to find any answer as to why this happens. The best part is that many believe that shiny Pokémon are possible slightly stronger than the normal version.

Eevee began to yip at Dratini who cooed back. After a little while Dratini looked at Ash and then at Eevee and then back at Ash and slowly raised the rest of its long snake body out of the water.

Ash slowly walked forward and bent down again in front of Dratini.

"Hey Dratini my name is Ash and this is my partner Inferno, we are aiming to become the Champion of Kanto as I said to Eevee, and we were here looking for new teammates that could help us achieve that. I wanted to know if you wanted to come with us as well?"

Dratini looked at Ash for a moment before looking at Eevee again and started cooing with Eevee yipping back. After a short while Dratini looked back at Ash and cooed with a smile before bobbing her head forward and back. Ash let out the breath of air he had been unknowingly holding. He quickly pulled out two safari balls and explained again to Dratini what it'll do before it nodded and made contact with the it and with a flash of light was put inside. After a couple of shakes it stopped and dinged and then transferred over to the safari center. Ash proceeded to do the same thing with Eevee.

As Ash got up, he looked at Inferno and smiled brightly.

"Alright buddy, let's head back to the gate."

As they were walking Ash couldn't believe his luck. Not only did he find an Eevee, who were very rare due to the many types of evolutions they had, with anyone of them being a powerful Pokémon if raised right, but he also got a shiny Dratini. Dratini were the only native Dragon type line to Kanto, they were Kanto's pseudo-legendary, when fully evolved into Dragonite, they were the answer to Johto's Tyranitar, Hoenn's Salamence and Metagross, Sinnoh's Garchomp, Unova's Hydreigon and so on.

He walked to the gate he had came from with a huge smile on his face.

After Ash had transferred them both into his own poke balls, he quickly went to the Pokémon center where he contacted Professor Oak.

"Hey Professor, could you send over Alakazam to bring me back please?" asked Ash.

The Professor was quick to reply with a yes and once again pulled out his button to summon the Psychic type and ask for it to go pick Ash up.

"So Ash, I got the notification that you caught two Pokémon although I haven't checked which ones yet. May I ask which one's you caught now?" asked the Professor.

"Wait till I get back to the lab professor I think you'll be very surprised with both of them." said Ash as he grinned.

The Professor replied with a smile and nod and stated that Alakazam should appear outside any moment now before ending the call.

As Ash walked outside the Pokémon center Alakazam appeared right in front of him and was quick to touch him and teleport them both back to the lab.

Right next to Ash were both Professor Oak and his mom. "So, let's see what you have caught Ashy." said Delia with a smile.

Ash was quick to take Eevee's poke ball and release it. They both raised their eyebrows. "Wow I didn't even know you could find Eevee in the Safari zone." replied Delia as she knelt down to touch Eevee who stepped back slightly before Ash reassured it.

"Yea I got really lucky." said Ash with a grin.

"Have you thought of what you may want Eevee to evolve into yet?" asked the Professor.

"Not yet, but I'll let Eevee decide that later on."

Ash proceeded his third poke ball and released Dratini.

Both his mother and the Professor eyes widened at the sight of the shiny dragon.

"Oh how beautiful." said Delia.

"Oh my, Ash you have caught yourself a gem." stated the Professor with his eyes glued on Dratini.

"Yea like I said I got really lucky, Eevee was actually the one who showed us Dratini, I guess they were already friends so they both agreed to come together." replied Ash with a smile.

"Ash, I understand that you may need Dratini now, but later on I hope you don't mind sending Dratini over for a little bit so we can study the shiny phenomenon, I've been wanting to study a shiny for a while now, but they are extremely rare as you may know." asked the Professor.

"Of course, as long as Dratini is fine with it I can send it later on once my team is a little more balanced out." replied Ash as he bent down to scratch Dratini scales who cooed in return.

"Actually, professor do you have any advice on how to train Dratini?" asked Ash.

The Professor had a Dragonite of his own, which was and still is a powerful

The Professor smiled

"For now just increase its move pool until it evolves and perhaps try to work on speed, as you know Dragons take far longer than any Pokémon to raise, that is the main reason as to why Lance is seen as one of the strongest trainers currently and has hardly had any challenges in his run as the Champion. Once Dratini evolves into Dragonair than will its power truly increase, the same when evolving into Dragonite, but even more so." replied the Professor.

"Okay, thank you Professor, and speaking of moves I need to check both of them out with the Pokedex." replied Ash as he pulled out the Pokedex and scanned Dratini and Eevee.

Dratini the Dragon Pokémon. It is called the "Mirage Pokémon" because so few have seen it. Its shed skin has been found.

This Dratini is female and has the ability Shed Skin which Heals the body of status conditions by shedding.

Moves are Wrap, Thunder Wave, Twister, Dragon Rage, and Water Pulse.

Eevee the Evolution Pokémon. Thanks to its unstable genetic makeup, this special Pokémon conceals many different possible evolutions.

This Eevee is female and has the ability Adaptability which increases the effectiveness of STAB moves.

Moves are Tackle, Tail Whip, Sand Attack, Quick Attack, and Endure.

Ash gave both of them a grin.

"Alright so do either of you want a nickname? Like how Inferno has one." he asked his Pokémon who both nodded in return.

"Alright so Eevee, how about we wait a little bit until we train and then we decide what you want to evolve into, okay?" asked Ash who got a soft frown but nod.

Ash smiled back and scratched her behind her ear.

"Now Dratini, what do you think of the name Sky?" asked Ash as he kept scratching Eevee's ear.

Dratini seemed to be considering it for a while before cooing with a nod at Ash. Ash smiled in return.

"Alright guys we got a little more than a week before we reach Pewter City where we will have our first gym battle, so let's start going on the road and being our journey okay." replied Ash who got eager replies from his team as he returned both Eevee and Sky.

"Ashy here, this a gift for your journey so you can keep contact on the road." replied Delia who handed Ash a small device that Ash recognized as a Pokénav. Ash smiled back, the Pokénav would be able to act as a phone, map, and some functions that his Pokedex held along with others he would tinker with on the road.

"Thanks mom, I really appreciate it. "said Ash as he hugged his mom for the last time before he set off.

"Of course, and don't forget to change your underwear." she replied with a smile.

Ash rolled his eyes as Inferno snickered. "I won't mom, goodbye mom, Professor." said Ash as he ran off to route 1 waving back.

Once Ash found a small spot-on Route 1, he released the rest of his team and addressed them. "Alright guys, before we start training and battling, I want to know where each of you are with each of your moves. So, let's start with Inferno and see how much you can do. Use each of your Attacks on that Rock over there and we will see what we need to work on." getting a nod from Inferno who walked over and proceeded to use each move he knows.

"Alright so your Scratch, Smokescreen, Ember, and Bite all look good, so now let's see how long it takes you to set up a dragon dance, you and Sky can probably try to work on Dragon moves later on together to help each other." said Ash as he analyzed Inferno.

Counting to himself, he saw that Inferno had finished gathering the energy and looked at his Pokenav.

"Alright so it took around 25 seconds. We will work on it to cut down the time, but for now we probably won't be able to use that move in battle." said Ash towards Inferno.

They proceeded to do the same thing as Eevee and Sky demonstrated each other their moves. Ash smiled happily as he saw how Eevee had good control of her moves as did Sky only really struggling a bit with Water Pulse. He didn't know how good Eevee was with Endure as he didn't want to test that move out yet, but he figured once he set up some spares later on, they could figure it out.

Content with his team, he returned Eevee and Sky with Inferno jumping on his back and continued to walk down the path of Route 1.

Already very late at night when Ash reached Viridian City, he walked for another 20 minutes before finally reaching the big red building which he knew as the Pokémon Center, and walked in up to the counter after entering inside.

"Hello there." said Nurse Joy with a smile

"Hi, I was wondering If you could take a look at my Pokémon, and if I could rent a room for the night." asked Ash.

"Of course, just put your Poke Balls onto this tray, and let me see your trainer license and I can assign you a room." she replied.

"Okay, also could I register for the Indigo Conference here?"

" Yes of course, I'll register you right now if you'd like." said Nurse Joy

Ash was quick to enter his poke balls into each slot on the tray and handed Nurse Joy his Pokedex, who scanned it, and then grabbed a key and gave it to Ash.

"You are officially registered for the Indigo Conference, to qualify you must earn 8 badges from the Gym Leaders spread around Kanto, after gaining 8 you can go to the Indigo Plateau, where the Conference will be held in a little less than a year from now. You're on the first-floor room A-15. I'll call you on the speakers once your Pokémon are checked out." she said with a smile.

Ash grabbed the key and thanked her before heading over to the cafeteria.

Once Ash was finished eating and cleaned up his area, he heard his name on the speaker telling him his Pokémon were ready to be picked up. Quickly going to get them he offered Nurse Joy a thanks and smile who returned it back.

As Ash started walking towards his room for the night the lights in Pokémon Center went out. Ash looked around and noticed the alarmed look on Nurse Joy as she was looking at the entrance of the Pokémon Center. When he turned, he saw two figures both with black uniforms and the logo R on the front of their shirts.

Team Rocket

Team Rocket are an evil criminal organization set to steal other people's Pokémon.

A male with purple hair and woman with long pink hair began to talk.

"Alright, hand over all the Pokémon, we can do this the easy way or the hard way." said the pink haired women who had a Poke ball ready in her hand.

Nurse Joy reached for the phone, but a Meowth that came out of nowhere stopped her before she could get any closer.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." said the Meowth.

Ash blinked. A talking Pokémon? He knew Psychic types could communicate with their powers, but he had never seen an actually talking Pokémon before.

Putting his thoughts aside, Ash was quick to reply

"You aren't taking any Pokémon today." he said as he grabbed Inferno's Poke ball and released him.

The pink haired women seemed to groan.

"The hard way then." she said as she and her partner both released their Pokémon.

An Ekans and Koffing.

Ash was quick to release Eevee and Sky as well and command them.

"Eevee use quick attack on that Ekans."

"Take the hit and wrap up the Eevee." said the pink hair

"Koffing use smog on the Charmander." replied the purple hair

"Inferno use ember on the smog."

As the embers started to hit the smog, it caused small explosions that harmed the koffing.

"Now Dratini use dragon rage on the Koffing, and Inferno use scratch on the Ekans." said Ash with both quickly following command as Dratini hit Koffing with a straight dragon rage, instantly knocking it out, and Inferno scratching the Ekans that had been holding his teammate, quickly releasing her.

"Ekans quick use bite on Eevee."

"Inferno stop it with ember."

As the Ekans lunged at Eevee, Inferno was quick to hit it down with an Ember.

"Now Eevee while it's down use tackle."

Eevee quickly zoomed across the room and hit Ekans sending it flying over the room till it stopped on the floor unconscious.

Before anyone could say anything, Ash felt a large sting in the back of his leg and turned to see the Meowth with blood on his claws. Meowth was quick to lung at Ash's face before a brown blur tackled into him.

Meowth was on the floor with Eevee on top of him growling.

As both Team Rocket members recalled their Pokémon they headed straight for the door before Dratini hit them both with a thunder wave.

With both the Team Rocket members down, Ash was quick to check on his team.

"Hey guys, good job with what just happened, I'm really proud of you all." replied Ash with a smile.

Nurse Joy was quick to come over

"Thank you for helping stop them from stealing the Center's Pokémon. Officer Jenny should be on her way now, once she has arrived and taken them away, I can take a look at the cut on your Leg."

Ash was quick to nod.

Once Officer Jenny came and offered her thanks to Ash for helping stop and capture the Team Rocket Members, Nurse Joy had taken both him and his Pokémon in the back to clean up and check on them.

After everything was done Ash went to his room with his Pokémon where all four of them jumped onto the bed and fell asleep with Eevee and Inferno being curled up near Ash, and Sky laying her whole 6ft long body stretch from one end of the bed to the other. All fell asleep quickly happy with how their first day had gone.

Ash along with his team woke up early in the morning and went to the back of the Pokémon center to being training.

"Alright guys so we will probably leave to Viridian Forest later on today, but we will be back in the future, the Gym Leader here is probably the most powerful one in the region and he only takes on challengers who have 7 badges, but for now I want to get started on what we will need to go against the Pewter Gym. The Gym leader is a rock type specialist so Inferno I want you to learn metal claw. We can look it over the Pokedex in a bit to get an idea of how the attack works. Eevee, before we decide on which evolution you want to become, I want you to learn a few moves, mainly iron tail and shadow ball. For now, we can start working on iron tail. Sky, I want you to work on mastering water pulse, once both you and Inferno have gotten your moves down, then I would like it if you could help show Inferno how to use dragon rage, and he will in turn teach you ember. We all got it?" asked Ash who got cheers of agreement from his Team.

So, they worked on their moves for the next few hours with only Eevee struggling a bit but overall making good progress. Once they were done training Ash went to take his Pokémon to get checked on by Nurse Joy before heading over to the Poke Mart to buy supplies for the forest such as antidotes, potions, and more food.

After getting all the necessary supplies he went back to the Pokémon Center to pick up his team before heading off to Viridian Forest.

Walking through Viridian Forest, Ash had Inferno outside with him and were making quick match of the insects they saw around. Inferno would occasionally run up to a tree and work on metal claw which was looking like it would be ready for battle within the next day or two.

After a while of traveling, nothing interesting happened other than a few battles with Bug trainers where Inferno destroyed them. Ash decided to set up camp for the day and train his team. Once they were set up Inferno began to work on Metal claw with Sky working on Water pulse which was also looking very good. Eevee was still struggling with iron tail but she was showing signs of getting it down.

After a long day of walking and training, Ash got everyone's food ready before they settled for the night listening to the flames that were provided by Inferno before falling asleep.

Around the fourth day of traveling the forest, Ash had made quick work of any challenger so far earning a decent amount of money and both Inferno and Sky had gotten their respective moves down and now were working on helping each other learn dragon rage and ember. Eevee had made good progress with iron tail, and Ash believed she would have it down around the time they got to Pewter City.

As Ash and Inferno were walking down a trail, a long metal sword was put in front of Ash out of nowhere. In front of Ash was a boy with a samurai get up and helmet that was a bit lob sided.

"Are you a trainer from Pallet Town? Asked the boy with the sword.

"Y-yes" replied Ash with Inferno starting to growl next to Ash.

The guy smirked

"My name is Samurai, I was beaten by another trainer from Pallet Town, and I will regain my honor by beating you in battle." he said as he grabbed a Poke Ball.

Ash blinked, and then became angry.

"You put a sword at my throat, just because you want to battle! What's wrong with you, are you crazy!" screamed Ash.

"It doesn't matter now, let us begin." said Samauri nonchalantly as he released his first Pokémon which was a Pinsir.

"Fine, Inferno burn the bug." said Ash as Inferno nodded firmly.

The battle ended pretty quickly with Inferno destroying the Pinsir. Ash could tell it didn't have much training.

"Hmm, fine but you won't be able to defeat my next Pokémon!" claimed Samauri as he threw his second poke ball.

A Metapod formed from the light.

Ash groaned and let out Eevee.

"Hey girl we've got a quick battle here to test out your new move okay." said Ash to Eevee who nodded eagarly.

"Metapod use Harden."

"Eevee knock it down with a tackle."

Eevee was quick to knock down the Metapod who just layed on the ground motionless.

"Attacks like that won't harm my impenetrable Metapod, once again Metapod use Harden." said a grinning Samurai.

"Eevee use iron tail"

Eevee sprang forward with her tail glowing and thrashed it into the center of Metapod instantly knocking it out.

"WHAT!" screamed Samauri

"You must have cheated, no way would metapod be defeated by such as move." accused Samurai.

"I didn't cheat, it was simply that my Pokémon were better" replied Ash.

Samauri's face grew red

"I will get stronger and the next time we meet the results will not be the same." claimed Samauri who ran off.

Ash made a mental note to always avoid the Viridian forest now as he congratulated Eevee on using her Iron tail efficiently.

Ash smiled as he reached the exit of Viridian Forest and saw Pewter City up ahead. He was proud of the progress his team had made with Inferno learning both metal claw and dragon rage, Sky working out water pulse and ember, and Eevee learning iron tail. Inferno and Sky had both began to work on iron tail as well with Eevee starting to work on Shadow ball, although not much progress had been made with those moves yet.

It was late already and Ash was excited, his first gym battle would be tomorrow morning and he knew his team was ready. He smiled as Inferno ran forward a bit. Inferno skin was starting to turn red and body becoming larger indicating that he was close to evolving which hadn't left Ash surprised seeing the number of bugs Inferno had destroyed in the forest.

Reaching the Pokémon Center, Ash requested a room and checkup for his team which he was quickly given by Nurse Joy. Once he had his team, he quickly got to his room and released his team.

"Alright guys so tomorrow will be our first gym battle. We've prepared for this and I have faith in you guys." said Ash with a smile as his team all looked excited.

With that being said all Ash and his team was quick to get into the bed and fall asleep readying for tomorrow.

Bright in early Ash was in front of the Pewter City Gym, he took a breath, opened the door and walked in.

Ash was greeted by a older boy with spiky brown hair around the age of 18 years old he would guess.

"Hello, I am assuming you're a challenger?" asked the man.

"Yea, my name is Ash Ketchum and i'm here to challenge the Gym leader." replied Ash

"Very well, my name is Brock Slate, and I am the gym leader of Pewter City, is this your first gym battle?" asked Brock as he led Ash to a battle field.

"Yea this is my first one." said Ash

"Very well, this will be a 2 on 2 battle, the winner will be the man with the last Pokémon standing." said brock as he made his way to his spot on the field.

Another boy who looked like a younger Brock said" This will be a 2 on 2 battle with the Boulder Badge on the line, only the challenger will be able to switch out his Pokémon, begin."

Brock grabbed one of his Poke balls and released a Geodude.

Ash was quick to answer back by releasing Inferno.

"Alright Inferno let's start off by using ember."

"Geodude use defense curl."

The embers hit Geodude directly, but didn't seem to do much damage.

"Now Geodude use tackle."

"Inferno wait for him to get close and then hit him with metal claw."

Geodude charged at Inferno who wait until the right moment and moved out of the way before landing a direct metal claw on Geodude.

Geodude grunted in pain, but stayed up.

"Alright Geodude use defense curl."

"Inferno strike him again with metal claw."

"Geodude dodge and hit him with mega punch."

Geodude moved out of the way and hit Inferno with a hard punch sending him onto the ground.

Inferno slowly got back up.

Ash thought for moment before getting an idea.

"Inferno use smokescreen all over the field and then use dragon dance."

Inferno was quick to reply with covering the whole field in smoke before gathering the draconic energy.

Geodude couldn't see a thing and was forced to wait until the smoke cleared out.

As soon as the smoke cleared, Ash noticed the light come off of Inferno indicating that dragon dance has finished.

"Geodude once again use mega punch."

With a faster and stronger Inferno now, he easily maneuvered out of the shot.

"Hit him with ember." called out Ash

Inferno did so with Ember pushing Geodude back a bit.

"Now smack him with metal claw."

"Counter with mega punch." called out Brock

As both Pokémon got closer for their attacks, Geodude launched his fist forward where Inferno ducked under it before hitting Geodude directly with his metal claw.

This time Geodude fell.

"Geodude is unable to battle, Charmander is the winner." called out the ref.

"Return Geodude, Good job Ash, not many people who come here with a Charmander have as much success. With that being, said let's see how you handle this one." replied Brock as he throughout his second and last Pokémon.

A Huge rock snake that Ash knew as Onix appeared towering over Inferno.

"Alright Inferno use dragon rage."

Inferno hit Onix with dragon rage which seemed to do a decent amount of damage.

"Alright Onix, use tackle."

"Inferno dodge and hit him with metal claw." called out Ash

Onix missed Inferno who was able to get off his metal claw causing Onix to groan in pain.

"Onix quick wrap him up."

Onix ignored the pain and quickly wrapped up Inferno and started to squish Inferno who screamed in pain.

Ash didn't know what to do and listening to Inferno scream made him clench his fist.

"I forfeit Inferno." Ash quickly replied.

Onix let go of Inferno and Ash was quick to recall him into his poke ball.

"Charmander has been forfeited, Onix is the winner, Challenger release your last Pokémon." said the ref.

Ash grabbed Sky's poke ball and released her.

Brock eye's widened with the ref's jaw dropping.

"Wow Ash Dratini are very rare Pokémon as it is, but a shiny one, that is impressive, but let's see if it can take on Onix." called out Brock.

Ash grinned, he loved seeing the reaction people gave when they saw Sky.

"Alright Sky, let's start off with dragon rage."

Sky was quick to hit Onix with a direct dragon rage which seemed to cause a lot of pain to Onix who roared in return.

"Onix quick use rock tomb."

Sky tried to maneuver through the rocks that were being thrown, but was to slow and got hit by a few causing her pain.

"Now wrap." replied Brock

"Sky wait until he gets close and hit him directly with water pulse."

Once Onix was in front of Sky getting ready to strangle her, she hit him with a direct water pulse into his face.

Onix roared in pain from the super effective move before tumbling to the ground unconscious.

"Onix is unable to battle, Dratini is the Winner, as the Gym Leader has no more Pokémon left, the Challenger wins.

Ash froze, and then smiled. He had won his first gym badge. He was over to Sky quickly to congratulate her on the battle and return her.

Ash looked up to see Brock walking up to him with a smile.

"Good battle Ash, you've trained you Pokémon well. As a winner of the Pewter gym here is the boulder badge." said Brock as he handed Ash the Boulder badge.

Ash grabbed it from brock and thanked him for the battle.

"Also, here you go, this is the TM for Rock Tomb, I believe it can help you out on your journey if you need it, although it is a onetime use. "said Brock as he handed Ash a brown disc.

Technical Machines, also known as TMs, are an item that is used to teach a Pokémon a move that they may not be able to train to learn, or to make it easier to learn. Being built by Silph co. They vary from types to prices and can even be purchased as a permeant one. Ash was planning on saving his money up a lot so when he reached Celadon City, he could buy a few at the department store.

Ash grabbed the TM and put it away in his bag with a thanks.

"Once you've gotten stronger, come on back and we can have a battle where I use my main team." said Brock

Ash was quick to smile and reply back "Yea, I'll definitely come back once I've gotten more experience. Thanks for the battle Brock, I've got to go to the Pokémon center to get my team checked out, but I'll see you again soon." Ash said as he left with a handshake

As Ash walked out of the Gym, he couldn't help but smile, he had earned his first badge, and was one step closer to his dream.

And Thus began the story of a Champion.
