Chapter 2: Avenger
(IS Academy)
Ichika eating alone at the campus rooftops with his homemade food while gazing peacefully at the far sea horizon. Pondering on his upcoming duel against the British representative. Thinking about his duel he can't help but frown at the same time. Although he prepared himself for this occasion that he will use the very same weapon that almost annihilate his kind five years ago still makes him feel a bit uncomfortable but a part of him feel somewhat smiling at this. He will use this weapon to thrash this bitches in their place, oh how table has been reverse.
The young man could not help but smirk while thinking about the upcoming duel. So many things he wanted to try and experimented on and this battle is a perfect event for this. He quickly finishes his meal and proceeds to go in the academy hangar to prepare for his IS for it's first battle.
Moments later at the hangar, Ichika with no time to spare immediately working on his personal IS. He summoned it on his black bracelet device that looks like a wristwatch and began checking it's schematics and conditions. For all his life during ten years he studied robotics, engineering and mechanics just for the sake of survival. Thanks to his technopath powers he manages to learn and grasp every knowledge he needed for his plans to put in motion. Preparing himself for the day he will pay all his enemies tenfold for what they've done. While he's tinkering on his IS he was abruptly stop as he sense someone approaching from behind. He slowly reach for a screwdriver and wait for a moment to strike. When the person was already at his back his instincts kicks in and suddenly twists and apprehend the person while pointing the screwdriver onto it's neck.
"Woah there handsome, I'm not here to pick a fight." A blue haired girl raised her hands up in defeat stating she doesn't want to fight.
"Who are you?" Ichika asked menacingly. He didn't like someone sneaking onto his back. His formed instincts throughout the years always tells him that people who tried to sneak on his back is an enemy.
"Ah right, I have to introduce myself first." Ichika then let go of her to make her introduce herself properly.
"My name is Tatenashi Sarashiki and I'm second year student here so technically I am your senior." The girl named Tatenashi introduced herself with a smiling polite gesture to him. Ichika narrowed his eyes in that introduction. It feels like something doesn't add up.
"You must be the bodyguard those pricks assigned for me then." Ichika guessed which earned a raised eyebrow on the girl.
"Oh so you immediately guessed who I am . Oh well, yes I was the one who had been assigned to guard you. So that's why from now on we should be acquainted and get along together!" Tatenashi said with a cheerful manner. Ichika being annoyed clicked his tongue and switch back to his work.
"Go away, I don't need a bodyguard nor acquaintance."Ichika flatly said while resuming his work. Not even bothered to look back.
"Jeez don't be like that. I was looking forward to meet you, you know~." She complained in a teasing attitude.
She was so persistent and keeps pestering Ichika on it's work especially about the declaration of duel the he just accepted. All of it makes the annoyed young man really irritated. He could not completely concentrate on his work and even wants to use his powers to finish his mechanism but cannot afford to do so because of such an annoying spectator besides him. He really wanted to strangle this woman to death if not for some certain circumstances, it can't be helped though.
At last, he managed to finish his work without any issues and some patience to his self control not to cause any commotion. He then leaves the hangar still ignoring his bodyguard who is still keep following him from the outside still trying to open a conversation with him. Seems this girl really not knows when to give up after all of his ignores on her.
"Are you seriously going to follow me inside my room?" Ichika finally speaks to her after a long
"Ah don't worry I won't intrude your personal space. I just want to sure your safely back at your dorm!" Tatenashi replied happily as Ichika finally decided to talk to her.
"Get lost and tell to your superiors that don't bother sending some annoying bitches to me from now on." Ichika said with a hint of disdain towards her.
'"Gee harsh much? Sorry I can't do that, they already decided on everything so you don't have a choice on that matter and most of all they already arranged my dorm to be beside your dorm so whether you like it or not you and I will be seeing each other everyday!" Tatenashi said with a smile for that statement. Although the boy was cold and harsh to her she still looking forward for their companionship in the future, besides who does not want to get along with the famous only boy in campus and the younger brother of the well known strongest IS pilot in the world. This just looked interesting to her and she was expecting something good after this meeting with him.
Unfortunately, it's far from what she's expecting but that will be a story in the future.
Ichika wide eyed in anger as he heard such news. Her, a second year senior relocated in the first year's dorm just to be close to him? What kind of absurdity is this?! Was all Ichika was thinking in regards to this. Those in authority are just doing what they want just to contain him.
Around the world there's only 7 males including him that has been found so far and all have been under the governments protection and custody. The purge that happened long ago dwindled their numbers to the point of extinction and only a millions of them survived yet only 7 was found. The mysterious disappearance of the rest is still a mystery, but they know that they've been hiding somewhere and the government are trying their best to find them in hope of restoring humanity once again. If this hide and seek continues it's only a matter of time till humanity's existence will put in danger due to non-existent birth rate.
The very reason why they put their utmost security to this men and never even removing their sights on them.
"Fucking bitches." Ichika just only muttered in anger from this treatment especially when he suddenly get a quick glance at the corridors corner with that kind of expression.
'No too long ago they hunted us like animals in a hunting game they perpetrated and now they treated us like fragile beings that they could not afford to lose... pathetic.' He was really pissed from this scenario, humans only realize the importance of something once they lost it.
"Hm, something you say Ichika-kun?" Tatenashi suddenly asked.
"Nothing, just stop bothering me." He said without care and shut the door with a slam. Tatenashi alone at the corridor sighs and then pouted by this kind of bitter situation.
"He's really a tough nut to crack, wouldn't you agree sensei?" Tatenashi glance at the shadowed corner hall. There a figure emerge from the shadows which is Ichika's older sister Chifuyu.
"Sorry for this inconvenience on your behalf but your the only one who is most fitted for this task. But if your not comfortable for this then we-" Chifuyu was cut off short from her explanation when Tatenashi raises her hand.
"I'm fine, let me handle this. This will be considered a challenge for me to overcome. I'll gonna melt his cold heart with my sweet love and affection, look forward to it!" Instead of discouragement she cheered up and treated it as a challenge.
"Hope you will..." Chifuyu turns around to leave but not before Tatenashi notice her solemn look on her face and the sadness from her voice.
"Being hated by the only family you have is really tragic isn't it...?" Tatenashi shared the same sad expression while watching Chifuyu's retreating back. She sympathizes her as a fellow elder sibling. Forsaken by the very little brother you left is the most terrible thing to happen for a loving older sister. She cannot even imagine if her younger sister will hate her with the same intensity, it was surely heartbreaking and she didn't want even to think about that. Tatenashi looked up at her with adoration as the strongest IS pilot in the world and with that the enthusiastic blue haired girl will do her best to open the little brother's stoned heart so that the two Orimura's will have a chance to make amends with each other.

Down the hallway another Orimura is walking towards the direction of their leader's office. She knocks the door and a familiar voice answers granted her to come inside. She opens the door and enters as Tabane welcomed her sitting on her desk doing some paperwork.
"Ah Madoka welcome, is there something you need?" Tabane asked her visit.
"I just want to know if my brother is really attending IS academy." Madoka asked regarding about her brother becoming an IS student.
"I see, so you want to confirm it." Tabane concluded.
"So it is?" Madoka wanted to confirm. The renowned genius inventor of this era just sighs from this sensitive information that Madoka found out. But she already had a guess of who told her about this.
"Well, it seems that your brother Ichika Orimura was really at the IS academy enrolled there as a student." Tabane confirmed it to her which gives Madoka a surprise reaction.
"This is strange, why would he study to a place that he forsaken the most especially that woman was also there..." Madoka wondered in disbelief about Ichika being in a place that he despise the most.
"The government forces him to attend that academy when they found out that he can operate an IS. Probably for their own personal gain of propaganda that they make him an enrolee here and Ichika has no choice but to comply to them." Tabane explained to enlighten her.
"I see..." Madoka understands and was about to leave in a hurry.
"Stop right there Madoka, where do you think your going?" Tabane halted her to stop leaving, she knows that she was going to see her brother there. She is too reckless when it comes to this matters that ultimately putting herself in danger.
"This is the very reason why I didn't want you to get wind of this but it seems Squall has a soft side to you." Tabane just pinch the bridge of her nose in exasperation.
"What do you want me to do then, letting him to live in that place that suffocates him just from being there?! You know how much suffering him and his kind gone through and putting him in that place is nothing like but a death warrant to him!" Madoka started to argue with her leader and mentor. Tabane was really surprise by Madoka's changes, since the time she started to secretly visited her brother when it was still at the orphanage. Tabane warned her about that she might get caught by the authorities that took care of him. She didn't know what makes her concerned about him but it surely it was only not because they're siblings.
"I'm sorry Madoka but I cannot let you do that. This is not like the last time that you could visit him just like that. Your going to infiltrate a facility that houses trained future IS pilots along with some experts there. No matter how skilled you are you will not last long if you get caught." Tabane explained to her about the repercussions of her recklessness.
"Tch, I should have persuade him before if I knew this would happen but you forbid me from doing so." Madoka signed in defeat a bit frustrated by this news.
"Sigh...it's because we cannot compromise ourselves to anyone especially him and most of all, you think he will join an organization that was lead by me?" Tabane questioned the last words of her sentence which cause Madoka to frown. Surely the Phantom Task is an organization with a goal to demolished the existence of IS around the world but there leader Tabane who created this abominations was the center of animosity of the people that became victims of this mechanical monstrosities. No doubt Ichika would definitely reject it if he finds out who is their leader is despite their goals.
"But if you really concerned about him you don't have to worry. I've sent someone there to keep an eye on him and report to us back if there is something unusual." Tabane reassured the situation to her. Sending a spy within the academy is the best way to keep tabs with the only male in Japan. It will help them monitor some notable personalities currently employed there at IS academy.
"Is that enough assurance for you Madoka-chan?" Tabane looked at her with seriousness and a long pause before she answers.
"Fine then, but if something that even your spy can't handle then there's no need for me to get your permission." Madoka gives in but will no back down. She will jump into the fray if something dangerous to happen to Ichika that could not help but her intervention.
Madoka leaves the room and Tabane leans on her seat with a discouraging sigh.
"She being like that since the time when she always seeing her brother years ago. Just what did Ichika do to make her so protective to him like that?" Tabane questioned to no one but herself. She maybe the most brilliant mind in the world but when it comes to feelings she is not that knowledgeable in that field.
(IS Academy Arena)
The highly awaited battle was now about to begin. Many students are gathering at audience seats to see the duel between the two well known figures in the academy and see what's the only boy of this school was made of. Well maybe, they here just to get a glance of him but they are also looking forward for the performance he will show to them. Inside the launching pit, Ichika preparing for the final checking of his equipment. He inspect his wristwatch which is his IS in standby mode and activates it. With a glow of faint light a black mechanical robotic arm suit materializes in his left arm.
"Perfect." Ichika smirk in satisfaction, he then adjust his specs and his whole body with a glow of purple light transforms into an advanced exo suit with black as the main color with purple details around. It was a advanced generation combat type IS with dual katana beam swords and a dual pistol guns which are blasters holster at each sides. Pack with countermeasure arms and gadgets he personally made attached to it. The IS he named Avenger is ready and operational.
"Ladies in the audience of this arena, an official fight approved by the faculty is now about to commence. So I may suggest to take your seats because the duel is about to begin in a minute." The announcer said through the speakers. Ichika straightened up and step up to the launch pad preparing for his entrance to the arena.
"Ichika." Suddenly Chifuyu's voice heard out behind him. He took a glance at his back with a glare on the only relative he has.
"What are you doing here?" Ichika asked in a cold voice. Chifuyu took a deep breath and said to him.
"I'm just here to give you some pointers about your opponent." Chifuyu steeled herself and talked to her brother.
"Leave, I don't need your pointers." Ichika flatly rejects.
"I know you would say that but still you need to know this in order to win. Your up against a representative that cannot be underestimated." Chifuyu still pushes her point.
A pregnant pause occurred without being Ichika said a single word. Chifuyu then just continue what she wanted to say.
"Your opponent, she uses a long range combat IS using a Laser sniper rifle. You will be at disadvantage in long distance unless you manage to get close to her. Engaging her in close combat would suffice but still careful, she won't be a British representative for nothing if she didn't cover the only weakness she has." Chifuyu explained to him the little details about his opponent. Of course she won't be specific about it because it will be cheating so she only gave him about what mainly it can do.
"Fighter Ichika Orimura be ready on the launching pad now. Your duel is about to begin." Both of them heard the PA voice calling out which is the voice of Ichika's homeroom teacher Yamada. The boy without an excuse to her sister proceed to go into the entrance runway and activated his black wristwatch that soon glows and his body was now covered in black armor which is his IS. Covered in black mechanical suit his IS looks more like a close combat type and its armor resembles like a samurai with only some parts that contains his hidden arsenals.
"Fighter Orimura in position. Launching sequence in..." Yamada announces as Ichika steps into position at the runway as the hangar doors slowly opens.
"5..4..3..2..1..takeoff!" Ichika was then launch away by the runway and speed his way outside to the arena.
A large crowd of students bursts in cheers as Ichika entered the arena. Being the only man in the academy sure makes him so popular in an instant. Some probably wanted to see what capabilities he has and some wanted to know if he really can pilot an IS, it's either of those two that Ichika doesn't care about. All his focus was on his opponent which is on the other side of the arena. His opponent wearing a blue armor suit which is her IS called Blue Tears, a third generation long range prototype IS. The arrogant blonde that challenges him in a childish manner just because she cannot let go of her ego and today he will enjoy himself beating the shit out of this bimbo.
"So you really showed up. I thought you would run away scared knowing who your up against. But that's aside, as a courteous lady I'll give you a chance to forfeit now while you can." Cecilia arrogantly speaks towards him. The audacity of this bitch seriously. Soon, he will destroy that superior image that she's flaunting around. And when that time comes that she's vulnerable he will use it to his advantage.
"Are you done bragging around, we should end this quickly, such waste of time facing you." Ichika mockingly responds to her which infuriated the blondie. This man is clearly underestimating her.
"That's it, the offer I give you expires now! I will make you regret mocking me!" Cecilia fumes with anger at the retort.
"All combatants in the arena the duel will commence on my mark. The rules are simple, the first one that depletes it's opponents shield will be the victor of this match." Yamada announces the rules.
"Both combatants on your positions. I declare the battle between the British representative Miss Cecilia Alcott and the sole campus male Mr. Ichika Orimura...Begin!" As the Yamada gives the signal to start the duel Cecilia then immediately flew upwards and activates her weapons systems with an advanced sniper rifle manifested in her possession.
"TRY DODGE THIS!" She quickly aims and fires her laser rifle. A blast of laser shot sweeps towards Ichika with an intent to knock him down. But Ichika just casually sidestep and the shot missed on his side.
"Is that suppose to hit me missy?" Ichika smirks and his remark successfully fumes the blonde even more.
"YOUU..." With rage she unleashes her optical drones and starts attacking the boy with barrage of laser shots.
Ichika then start dodging in response by skating and flying around easily doing some graceful maneuvers like back flip and barrel rolls. He executed all of his movements well enough as if he was just dancing around from the viewers point of view.
"WOW LOOK AT HIM GO!"
"HE LOOKS SO COOL!"
"GO ORIMURA-SAN!
The girls started cheering for him seeing his performance except one who is completely irritated by his tenacity.
"STOP DODGING WILL YA!" Cecilia shouts in irritably while trying to focus her commands on her drones that was having a hard time hitting the young man.
"Is this all you can do, running and evading?! I thought you could do more than this!" Cecilia said in a mocking tone trying to get Ichika's temper.
"YOU REALLY DISSAPOINTS ME MR. ORIMURA!" She continues attacking with her drones while trying taunt him so that he could make some mistakes that she will use as an opportunity to give the hit she wants. Unbeknownst to her, Ichika already pinpointing her weaknesses.
Ichika after seeing the patterns of her attacks suddenly pulls out his blaster pistol and points it towards Cecilia then fires. Cecilia caught off from this hurriedly evades the shot which Ichika wants to happen
'Now.' Ichika seeing the opportunity quickly shoots the optical drones with precision and manage to obliterate them all in quick succession. His accuracy in shooting skills greatly improved due to his survival for all those years of fighting for his life.
" What?!" Cecilia can't believe it. She just distracted for a couple of seconds and all her four drones was destroyed in a fiery of explosions. Such marksmanship skills is truly commendable.
'He distracted me just for the chance of taking out my drones." Cecilia admits it was a irrational move on her side. She should not let her temper overwhelmed her focus nonetheless underestimating this man because he already shown some skills that should not be put aside.
"Alright time to get serious!" Cecilia adjusted herself in a position that will not be compromised. She continues shooting at Ichika with her blue rifle while pinpointing his movements. Ichika quickly dodges all of her attacks while flying towards her to close the gap. Cecilia notices it and she already predicted his next move.
"So you notice that you will have a chance if you take me on close combat." Cecilia smirks as she knows what he's up to. Ichika just ignored her words and continued to approach just when Cecilia's pods on her waist activated and points at Ichika.
"To bad you won't have a chance to do so!" Cecilia let out a victorious smile and unleashes her two homing missiles, speeding rapidly towards their single target.
"Flares." Not being fazed by the incoming missiles Ichika mutters and his IS defense protocol initiates and started letting out a flurry of sparks in the air thus the missiles target changes and hitting the flares instead, creating a huge explosion that lighting up the arena.
"W-WHAAT?!" Cecilia wide eyes in shock that her counter plan was easily disrupted. Staring at the explosion she didn't notice that Ichika is already sneak his way on her back.
"You should not let lose your attention of your opponent." Ichika speaks at her back and before she could do anything else a mechanical arm glove grabs her on the back and electrocutes her.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" Cecilia screams in pain as her shield effectively dropping by 90 percent. Then Ichika thrust her down falling to the ground with sheer force.
Cecilia could not help herself but scream in horror as Ichika crashes her down to the arena with a boom that creates a fume of dust in the arena. The audience went silent on their seats as they wait for the dust of cloud to subside. When the dust settles they saw Ichika pinning down Cecilia on her back with a blade pointing towards her face. From that view seems they already have an idea of whose the winner.
"Still want to continue?" Ichika said with a menacing tone that sent Cecilia into shivers.
"I-I...I give up.." Cecilia gives up in a trembling voice as she realizes that her defense shield went down to 0.
Inside the panel room, Chifuyu witnesses the entire battle through the monitors. She was surprised that Ichika shows some remarkable skills of piloting IS though she already has an idea from where he learned this combat skills due to the kind of life he has gone through in this past years. Not only that, she remembered from the information that he's the one who made his own Is. Chifuyu didn't know that her brother was capable of creating an IS that only scientists the likes of Tabane would able to create. She deduced he learned all of this while in hiding during those five years that they were being hunted. But Chifuyu can't still believe that he could learn it just about half s decade or so.
"This is truly amazing Chifuyu-san! Your brother is really a skilled pilot just like you, a prodigy! Not only that, I heard he's the one created his own IS!" Yamada on the control panels commented with enthusiasm.
Chifuyu can't help but agree. She has to admit, her younger brother was indeed a skillful one when she watches him fights and also knowledgeable enough to make this advanced suits. Seeing her brother piloting an IS for the first time she also remembers her days first piloting an IS and competed in some major competitions in the world. While thinking about her past when she and her brother were still inseparable before the purge she looks into the monitor and saw Ichika's face. A face that shows different expression compared to the past the last time she saw him.
" Wait...that look..." Chifuyu after noticing something quickly alarmed.
"Yamada immediately announce the winner and contact some faculty members hurry!" Chifuyu suddenly instructed to Yamada which gave her a confuse but worry look.
"Why, is something wrong in the duel?" Yamada asked in worry.
"Look at him. That look, I saw it many times at the battlefield in the past. The gaze of a person who was out for blood. I don't want to jump on conclusions but Ichika might gonna do something out of control!" Chifuyu quickly explained to Yamada and the homeroom teacher seems to guessed what is going on as she stared back at the screen, but is Ichika will really going too far as to harm his opponent like that? Yamada knows nothing about Ichika but if his older sister was being worried like this then it might be the case.
"Alright, I-I get it I immediately contact the faculty first!" Yamada was about to contact the school staffs she saw Chifuyu was about to went out of the door.
"Ah Chufuyu-san where you going?!" Yamada called out.
"I'll go there first just to make sure he pull doesn't anything bad." Chifuyu replied but when she was about to go her attention got onto the monitor and surprise from what she saw.
Back to the arena, the situation between combatants was getting up tense.
"Give up? You should be aware of what're your saying. In a fight, one should know that once they fought against a foe he or she should prepare to die." Ichika said with intimidating voice that he intentionally let out.
"W-WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT?!" Cecilia's heart begins to beat faster in fear as she didn't like where this is all going. The look Ichika gave to her screams of a bloodlust. A predator who wants to devour it's prey.
"You know what I mean." Ichika smirks in reply with predatory eyes.
"Y-YOU...YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!" Cecilia shouted as she began to struggle from being pinned but to no avail.
"Y-YO-YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU KILL ME RIGHT?!" Cecilia cried in fear as she thought this man is hell bent on killing her.
"I'm well aware." Ichika answered, he really enjoys playing with their fears like this even if he just fooling around.
"THEN-" She was about to speak again when Ichika interrupts her.
"Fortunately, this is just a mock battle with a victor decided by whose energy shield still remains and since your shield drops out it's already my win." Ichika stated as he removes his blade and set her free from being pinned. Cecilia was relieved but feel humiliated by his stunt but that's when Ichika extended his hand to her. Cecilia was a bit hesitant by this but seeing Ichika's unhostile face she accepts it with reluctance. Ichika then gently helps her stands up, all the female audience seeing this gentlemanly move which is now a history only seen on books and televisions they can't help but squeal in admiration.
"KYAAA LOOK HE'S LIKE A PRINCE CHARMING IN THE BOOKS!"
"SO COOL OF HIM!"
"HE SHOWS SPORTSMANSHIP WITH A HANDSOMELIKE APPROACH!"
All the students present cheering up after the battle. Eventhough its quite a surprise that a representative loss suddenly in this duel they still happy at the outcome. Now he becomes even more popular albeit unintentional but cannot be avoided due to the fact that he's the only guy here. Well can't blame their reactions since they no longer witness such things like this in their entire lives now, sucks to be them. The only joy that a man could give will no longer be attained for them and Ichika will make sure it will be just a pipe dream and this is nothing but a false act. Ichika really dislikes Cecilia because of her ego and arrogant attitude but he still needs to get her trust for his plans he will enact in the future since her families connection will be helpful, in other words he's only using her. As the crowd cheered the announcer teacher Yamada of first year class one declares the winner.
"AND NOW THE WINNER OF THIS DUEL IS ORIMURA, CONGRATULATIONS!"
Back at the panel room, Chifuyu just sigh in relief that her suspicions were wrong. Still she can't help but think about her brother, he was clearly shows a sign of killing intent back then as she knows it very well due to her experiences during the purge. That look of a person who has a strong desire to murder someone, she witnesses it from her comrades and also enemies alike when they look at her with such intense murderous gaze. Now Chifuyu solemnly wonder what was her brother had gone through all those years. She really can't forgive herself from leaving him behind when he needed her the most. Then her train of thoughts interrupts when Yamada speaks to her.
"Seems like there's nothing to be worried about Chifuyu-san." Yamada after announcing the winner said with a smile.
"Yes... I'm glad it didn't went out bad.' Chifuyu contemplates.
"I thinks your just overthinking things out there." Yamada said.
"I hope so...I really hope so.." Chifuyu replied with uneasiness, despite nothing bad happened she still can't get out the worry when she saw Ichika reveals that kind of face like that. She hopes that everything will be at good pace just as now and hope for the better that Ichika will one day open himself to others and wish this act of sportsmanship of his will be the start.
