Prompt: "I Miss You."
The captivated hush of the audience made Chloe feel a little nervous as she took a deep breath and wrapped her right hand around the microphone on the stand in front of her. She closed her eyes and sang a haunting melody, which after a few moments, turned into the first line of her newest song. It was already at number two on the charts.
Where are you?
You're in my heart and in my soul, what can I do
But love you.
And I hardly recognize myself without you.
I miss you.
You're a part of me, of us, you know it's true
I'll see you.
In everything I'll ever be or ever do…
It was the first time the redhead had performed it live in front of an audience and it was so personal to her, and emotional, that her breath control was suffering slightly. Not to mention the fact that she didn't even realize there were tears on her cheeks.
Three and a half minutes later, the final note faded away and Chloe smiled as the audience gave her a standing ovation.
"Chloe Beale, Ladies and Gentlemen!" the blonde host yelled over the noise as the redhead made her way to the couch to sit down. "What an incredible performance of her new song, I Miss You!"
"Thanks, Kelly," Chloe grinned as she reached out to grab her glass of water and sip it.
"Let me just ask," Kelly said gently as she passed a box of Kleenex to the star. "Are you ok? It seemed like an emotional moment for you."
"It's… yeah…" The redhead nodded as she dabbed under her blue eyes. "I wrote it for…" She swallowed hard and looked down. Then she looked across the stage to find her wife wiping tears from her own cheeks in the wings. "I wrote it for our…mine and Beca's son… Luke. He didn't… um… I had a miscarriage a few months ago." Her breath hitched and she bit her bottom lip as she tried to maintain her composure.
Then Beca was there, taking a seat next to her and bringing her hand to her lips to kiss it as the audience remained respectfully quiet. "It was a difficult time," the brunette said as Kelly handed her a microphone. "Chlo and I wanted to immortalize our son, so she wrote the song, and I produced it. It's one of the hardest things we've ever done."
"But so worth it," the redhead continued. "Because we're donating the profits from this song to St. Mark's Hospital for childhood cancer research. So..." She winked. "Please buy it or stream it. It's for a great cause."
Chloe and Beca smiled again as the audience gave them another standing ovation. Kelly nodded. "I'm so sorry you had to go through the pain of losing your baby and thank you for doing this for the hospital."
"It's our honor to be able to help," Beca smiled. "It's the right thing to do."
Kelly took a deep breath and moved on to her next question while Chloe and Beca Mitchell-Beale just gazed at each other with eyes full of love.
