LUCKY TO HAVE YOU
When Mrs Hughes woke up, her husband's eyes were on her, piercing her, dark with lust and desire. He put his arms around her and kissed her soundly, pressing his body against hers. She grasped for air as he deepened the kiss. "I can't get enough of you." He whispered, breaking the kiss; she finally managed to catch her breath. After that, a loud moan escaped her mouth as he kissed the bare skin on her chest and grabbed her thigh and squeezed it, moving his grip up to remove her lacy (racy) nightgown. Suddenly, a loud knock interrupted them. "What now?!" Mr Carson shouted; he was starting to get exceptionally infuriated with these interruptions!
"A- a te-telegram for Mr Carson." They heard an unknown voice stuttering behind the door.
Mr Carson got up, swiftly put on his nightrobe to open the door, and collect the telegram. The poor boy behind the door was trembling as he was handing it to him.
"Who is it from?" Elsie asked, trying to put her ruffled hair back into place.
Mr Carson stood in front of the bed, a frown appeared on his forehead, he was concentrating.
"Charlie?"
"It's from Andrew." He replied.
"Oh?"
"He and Daisy are coming to Brighton this afternoon; they want to meet us."
"Do you think this is about the proposal?" She wondered and started getting out of bed to ready herself.
"Stay there!" Charles panicked when he saw her leaving the bed, his voice turned coarse, and his face was flushed: "We- we haven't finished yet!" He explained before he joined her under the sheets again.
…
Later that morning, the Carsons and Masons explored more of Brighton, its streets, and museums, until it was time to meet Andy and Daisy. When Mr Carson relayed the message from the telegram, the Masons cheered with excitement. Mr Patmore clocked the intent behind the footman's sudden outing straight away. Mr Mason was the only one out of the four who remained clueless, therefore they all had to keep it shtum.
Andrew instructed that they all meet at the beach, couple dozen yards on the west side from the Pier. Mrs Patmore and Mrs Hughes took what remained of the snacks from the train ride and prepared a little picnic. There was still enough food to feed an army!
"There they are!" Mr Hughes beamed joyfully as she saw the young couple.
Andy had a broad smile on his face and Daisy had an obvious pep in her step. They were holding hands!
"We just got engaged!" Daisy announced instead of a greeting. Everyone congratulated them while Mrs Patmore started sobbing. When she opened her mouth, nothing came out, so she decided to hug the young kitchen maid tightly instead.
After the initial commotion, caused by the sharing of the news, they all sat down on the blanket and started the feast. The conversation continued in the very same jolly spirit.
"I took your advice, Mr Carson." Andy turned to the butler as others continued chatting and laughing.
"You did?"
"I found a private corner in a busy place."
Mr Carson gave him a confused look.
"I proposed on the Ferris wheel, we were alone in the cabin." He explained and pointed his head towards it.
"Well, I am glad you found the right place."
"I am not sure Mr Carson advised you this Andy…" Mrs Hughes overheard their conversation and wanted to chime in. "…but when a woman finds the right man, she will say her yes to him whatever place he chooses to propose – even if it is the rubbish dump." She laughed.
"I.. erm-" Andy wasn't sure what she was getting at.
"What I am trying to say is that you're lucky to have earned the affections of such a lovely girl." She smiled towards Daisy.
"That I am, Mrs Hughes." Andy understood. "And Mr Carson is lucky to have you." He said without thinking and made both the heads blush.
"I dare say he is." Elsie overcame her initial embarrassment and looked at her husband, teasing him. She earned a subtle knowing look from him for that…
Andy now turned back to Daisy, while Mrs Hughes inconspicuously stroked the back of her husband's hand.
"So?" Mrs Patmore got everyone's attention. "What have you two love birds got planned for the rest of the day?"
"I want to celebrate." Daisy grinned.
"We can take you out for dinner." Mr Mason suggested.
"That's very kind." Andy nodded towards his fiancé's father-in-law.
"I'd love to go dancing! To a night club!" Daisy's excitement was still palpable. "Would you like to come with us?"
"I am not sure it's necessarily Mr Carson's thing. You might have to go alone." The cook said with disappointment, remembering their conversation on the train.
"They can't go alone, Mr Patmore!" Mr Carson said disapprovingly. "They are not wed yet!"
"We're going to have to come with them then, Mr Carson." Mr Hughes decided despite her husband's horrified look.
