AN: Okay, so it took a few more months to update this again than I would've liked. Then again, I think it's pretty clear by this point that 2022 was not my year for productive work. At least when it comes to anything related to Studio Fandom.
Weiss: To say the least.
AN: Hey, give me a break, Ice Queen.
Weiss: Hey!
AN: I feel bad enough as it is. But, at least we're starting off strong with 2023 (I hope). Before I forget though, let's start this off by giving a big, pleasant wish to today's resident birthday girl. Everybody!
All but obvious: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLAKE!
[audience applause]
Blake: [blushing bashfully] Aw geez. Ruby, is this what it's like when he did this type of thing for you?
Ruby: Pretty much. It's great, right?
Blake: [still blushing, but with a smile] Yeah, I guess it's pretty cool.
AN: Glad you think so. So, with that said and done, what's say we get on with the show, shall we?
Cinder: I just want you to speed things along with both this and some of your other RWBY crossovers. Namely so we can see moments like how my big, final face-offs during the Fall of Beacon end up being against...
AN: DAH! SPOILER! BLAKE!
Blake: Way ahead of you! [pulls the lever]
Cinder: AH! [covers her head in preparation for the impending attack, only to notice nothing happened] Huh? What happened? [notices a plate of cake in front of her] Oh, is this it? Well, I think it's a little strange that you'd give me cake instead of the birthday girl, but...[takes a piece not noticing how there's a stick of dynamite loaded into it, indicating that it's a booby trapped cake]
Emerald: Uh...Cinder?
Cinder: What? [turns to where Emerald's pointing, and see the dynamite] Oh no. Not again.
Everyone other than Cinder: [grabs umbrellas to shield themselves when the cake explodes, splattering frosting and cake everywhere]
Blake: That wasn't the actual birthday cake, was it?
AN: Nope. That would be over there. [points to where Blake's actual birthday cake is] Everyone feel free to help yourselves to a slice. I'll join you all as soon as I'm done with the usual opening statements and disclaimer.

Chapter 4: Rooftop Rendezvous and Club Crashing
Two weeks had passed since the Spiders' encounter with Roman Torchwick, and they were quickly approaching the start of a third with absolutely no sign of the criminal. Not to say they had not been looking; the two had combed every corner they could think of in Vale trying to find him. In doing so, they discovered that his mug shot was indeed plastered almost all over the city, with a rather long list of crimes accompanying it once they looked further into the matter. Apparently, he had not even started in Vale, but all the way in Mistral as a member of a gang called the Spider. A name which Peter and Jess both took offense to, by the way, and they both quickly promised to have a few words with this Lil' Miss Malachite who led them if they ever got the opportunity. That aside, it was a little hard to tell when it happened, but it seemed pretty clear that Roman had severed his ties with Malachite and her gang at some point before moving on to become the big crime boss of Vale, and was only briefly apprehended one time since arriving in the kingdom, hence why his mug shot was used in his wanted poster and not a rough sketch or random photograph.
Aside from this basic information, the only other thing the Spiders had learned about Roman was that he apparently had a partner of some kind; namely a young woman, who they quickly figured must have been his getaway driver from the other night. Sadly, they could not get much more information about her, since all the details about this partner's appearance were sketchy at best. From the sound of things, they figured she must have a Semblance or some other ability that allowed her to hide or change her true form to whatever she wanted, so they figured they should not bother trying to find him through her, since she could be literally anyone in the crowd without them every knowing it. It made Spidey think about all of his encounters with villains like Chameleon and Mysterio, and Jess could not argue with how annoying it was now that she was putting up with such an individual too.
"I used to think you were just exaggerating when you said those two were the worst kind of enemies to have, simply because of how well they can hide anything. Now, I'm kinda wishing I had dealt with them at least once back on Earth, if for nothing else than the off-chance it would make finding this mystery girl a little less annoying," Jessica had admitted one night after Spider-Man had brought it up.
Regardless, they were not going to get hung up on one dead end when there was a city's worth of other leads to explore. They just needed to find the right one, and then they would be able to track down and capture the slippery little crook. The only problem was figuring out where to find that one lead, and unfortunately, that meant both Spider-Heroes were running some very late night patrols. It got to the point where they actually started to work in shifts, both so one of them could get some extra rest for when they did find Torchwick's hidey-hole, and so one they could give some kind of cover story to the folks at the shelter. Ren and Nora were both looking pretty concerned when they saw how tired their new friends seemed to be most days, with Naoko being the only one to beat them out on the levels of concern, and the last thing Peter and Jessica needed was for any half-awake minds letting something slip to any of those three.
It was actually Peter's turn to cover for them tonight, and he was thanking his lucky stars that he had managed to come up with a good amount of believable excuses to tell Naoko, Ren, and Nora about Jess' whereabouts in advance. It made him wonder if he should feel bad about becoming such a good liar, even if it was to protect his and Jessica's secret identities, but before those worrying thoughts could attempt to invade his dreams, he felt someone giving him some gentle nudges, rousing him from slumber land. Upon turning around, he was surprised to see Jessica had actually come back early, but before he could question her, she raised a finger to her lips and then silently pointed upwards. Recognizing the silent signal, Peter gave her a quick nod, slipped out of bed, and quietly followed her up to the roof. They had discovered the access way up there a short time after this Torchwick hunt had started, and decided to use the rooftop as their meeting place should the need arise. From the look of things, Jessica believed the need had arisen.
"Okay, you got me up here and away from the comfort of my cot. What's up?" Peter asked once the door had been closed and they were certain they were alone.
"I think I've found the lead we've been looking for," Jessica revealed.
"You found where Torchwick's hiding?!" Peter excitedly exclaimed. His spirits ended up dampened pretty quickly though.
"No, but I did get a lead on how we can find him," Jessica clarified. When Peter waved for her to continue, Jessica immediately dove into her report. "Remember how he said the goons helping him the other night were on loan to him?"
"Yeah," Peter nodded.
"Well, I found out who loaned them to him," Jessica revealed, pulling out her Scroll so she could show him a picture of the guy in question. "It took a little digging around, but I managed to find some more of those suited bozos, and once I got some of them to sing, every single one said that this is the guy we need to see: Hei Xiong, better known on the streets as Junior. His boys say he's got his hands in just about everything, but never actually takes part in any of the crimes himself. He just loans out his guys to whoever can pay, and only ever gets his hands dirty when someone comes after him directly."
"Giving him some level of plausible deniability and a way to claim self-defense if anyone comes around asking questions about his involvement," Peter filled in.
"Right, and get this, apparently, Junior's gang, the Xiong Family, were the biggest gang in Vale before Torchwick showed up," Jessica added on.
Now Peter was confused. "So instead of trying to retake his top spot, he loans out his guys to his biggest competitor? How does that make sense?"
"Maybe he was hoping to sabotage Torchwick from the inside, or it could be that he prefers the new status quo. With so many people now focused on Torchwick, Xiong's guys can commit a bunch of other crimes without too many people noticing. Kinda like what Tombstone had tried to pull on you in your first year as Spider-Man by making a bunch of supervillains," Jessica suggested. "Regardless, word has it that even though he's not the big Kingpin in Vale anymore, Xiong still has information about everything going down in Vale, so even if we can't get him to tell us about why he's been loaning his men out to Torchwick, we might be able to at least get something we can work with to capture old Guy-Liner."
"Sounds perfect. So where do we find this guy?" Peter asked, eager to get the show on the road.
"Apparently, he owns a club over on the shady side of Vale. We can head over there tomorrow night to have some words with him there. Of course, when I say we, I mean me. You can just hang around outside as backup in case things get dicey," Jessica revealed.
It sounded like a good plan to Peter. Sure, he did not like the idea of Jessica going in there alone, but she was better at interrogations and getting information out of people than him, so he did not mind too much. Still, he was curious about one thing. "If you were just going to have me play backup muscle, why didn't you call me so we could go there tonight?"
"Well for one thing, it's getting to be well-past the curfew we set for ourselves in order to avoid Naoko or anyone else here getting suspicious," Jessica pointed out as she showed Peter the clock on her Scroll to better emphasize her point. "And for another, if this place really is the main hub for the Xiong Family, then I'd rather we both be well-rested and ready for the possibility of a fight breaking out. Plus, given the plan I have in mind, I'd really rather not try and go it alone."
Now Peter was a little confused. Just what plan could Jess have come up with that would leave her anxious about going it alone? And believe Peter, Jessica definitely looked anxious about this plan, giving the way she was fidgeting in place while casting nervous glances off to the side. Seeing all this helped Peter put two and two together, and he had to groan a little at the realization. "Jess, you're not planning on using that, are you?"
"Hey, I'm not too fond of it either, you know, but if this guy is anything like I think he might be, I'm going to need every edge I can get when getting him to talk, which unfortunately means using that particular ability," Jessica told him, the resignation in her voice proving just how little she was looking forward to the whole thing.
Seeing that she appeared to be committed to the idea, despite her hesitance, Peter could not help but agree. He knew Jessica would never put even consider putting this plan forward unless she was absolutely sure it was necessary, so he did not feel like it was his place to argue the matter. With their plan now set, the two quietly slipped back downstairs so they could rest up for the day ahead of them, though with how eager they were for the next day to come, it was a little hard to say if they would be able to get to sleep very easily any time soon.
The next day came a lot quicker than Jessica or Peter expected, but the hours of the day itself seemed to drag on forever. All day long, they were just eager for dusk to hit so they could get suited up and swing over to Junior's bar. Were it not for Jessica's spy training, she probably would have had a small slip up like Peter did while he was helping Ren make lunch for the shelter. Generally, having Peter in the kitchen was a mistake in and of itself, but a distracted Peter Parker in the kitchen, well…Ren found out the hard way just how much of a disaster that was. Luckily nothing ended up too badly burnt, and they avoided any kitchen fires breaking out. Barely. Either way, when the sun finally started to set and their daily jobs and routines were finished, the two had suited up and proceeded to the shady side of Vale. There was just one problem: they had not managed to get away at the same time.
Due to the kitchen mishap, Peter had ended up being forced on dish cleaning duty after dinner that night, so Jessica had to go on ahead without him. Despite his promise to be as fast as possible, Peter found it very hard to keep said promise when Naoko was on the warpath in making sure every dish was spotless. Not that he could entirely blame her after what had happened, but he did try to warn everyone about his lack of skills in the kitchen. Still, he kept that little reminder to himself, feeling it would get him away from the dirty dishes quicker if he kept his usual cheek in check. So, by the time Peter had finally finished, the sun had gone down, and Jessica was already waiting outside the club for Peter to arrive.
"Geez, you'd think Naoko had you on lock down or something with how long it took you to get away," Jessica said over Peter's radio.
"Well, we can't expect everyone to be as forgiving as my aunt when it comes to the kitchen disasters I can cause," Spider-Man pointed out.
"Is that what you call them? I just call them straight up catastrophes."
"Yeah, yeah. Rub it in a little more, but let's not forget, you're no better than me when it comes to cooking, Miss Can't-Even-Microwave-Something," Peter shot back.
"Hey! That was one time, and it was a faulty microwave to begin with," Jessica defensively protested. She returned them to the more important matter at hand right after, asking, "So how far away are you? I'm not sure if I can just hang around waiting for you much longer without drawing a few looks."
"Don't worry. I'm just a few blocks away. I had to stop and deal with a couple of small disturbances along the way, but it was all quick and easy work. I'll be there any…" Peter's sentence ended up being cut short when that familiar tingling suddenly alerted him to something coming from behind, and a second later, someone fired a gunshot at his web, severing the line he had just fired out and leaving him to plummet downwards. Luckily, he was not too far up from solid ground, and managed to land in one of his signature Spider-Crouches when he hit the roof.
On the other end of the call, Jessica had heard Peter let out a startled yelp along with the gunshot, and quickly became concerned. "Spidey? You okay? What happened?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine," Spider-Man assured her as he stood up again, slowly moving into a battle-ready stance. "I think you're gonna have to go on ahead without me. Looks like somebody wants to play one of my 'favorite' games."
"That being?"
"Kill the Spider. Don't wait up, Sis," Spider-Man replied, his tone turning jovial when he gave her the send off. He grew serious again right after, as he heard the faint sound of someone quietly dropping down somewhere nearby, but when no further attacks came right away, he started to get a bit anxious. Eventually, his nerves got the better of him, so he did the one thing he always did when nervous: shoot his mouth off with big talk and quips. "Okay! Whoever it is that decided to play Shoot the Spider, can we hurry up and get this over with? I've had a pretty long day as it is, and I'm running a little late for an important meeting, so I'd appreciate it if we just skip the opening banter and just go right to the part where you try and fail to kill me."
"I'm not here to kill you. I just want to talk," his attacker replied, prompting Spidey to turn around and come face to face with them at last. When he did lay eyes on her though, Peter felt like his breath had caught in his throat, because standing before him with her hands up as a show of peaceful intentions was probably one of the most beautiful girls he had ever seen.
From her fair skin, to her wavy hair that was back as midnight, and right down to her amber eyes that almost seemed to glow in the night and were highlighted by her purple eye shadow, everything about this girl spoke of inherent beauty. Her outfit seemed just as eye-catching, even if it was mainly colored black and white. Said attire consisted of a white, sleeveless crop shirt and shorts, a black buttoned vest with coattails, black low-heeled boots and full stockings that had a color gradation of black to purple at her ankles. On the outside of both thighs, Spidey caught a glimpse of a flower-like emblem in white, and her forearms were adorned with black ribbons, with her left arm also sporting a detached black sleeve with a silver cuff around it. He could also see a small black scarf wrapped loosely around her neck, and to top it all off, she wore a big black bow atop her head. The weird thing was, Peter could swear it looked like said bow was moving a little bit, but then again, they were up on a roof, so maybe it was just the wind blowing against it. For the longest time, he could only stare at this vision of beauty, right to the point where the girl started to fidget a little nervously under his scrutiny.
"What?" the girl eventually asked after the silence finally dragged on too long for her comfort, but Spider-Man did not answer. "Um…Hello? Spider-Man, sir?"
"Huh?" Spider-Man gasped at the sound of his name. He quickly shook his head and said, "Sorry, it's just…Normally when people shoot at me, it's not because they want to talk. Usually they're either trying to kill me or they want me to stop talking, so this is a first."
"I can't imagine why," mystery girl muttered sarcastically. That confused Peter a little, but not to the point where he was able to stop himself from letting one other thing slip out of his motor mouth.
"That and…well, you are a very huge step up from the usual riff-raff I find creeping around the city at this time of night. And much prettier too," Spider-Man quietly added on. It was a good thing his mask hid his entire face, because otherwise, Peter was certain everyone in Vale would be able to see his blush. 'The thwip, Parker?! Why would you say that?!' Peter thought to himself. 'You meet a girl that looks like she could win every beauty contest on both Remnant and Earth, and who is clearly armed given that she shot your web while you were in mid-swing, and the first thing you do is blurt out how pretty you think she is?! Now she's gonna think you're some weird creep or something.'
Unknown to Peter, the girl had also gained a faint hue of red in her cheeks after hearing him call her pretty. Safe to say, she was more flattered than creeped out, but in Spider-Man never took notice of this. He was busy either panicking or trying to move along before he said anything else to potentially embarrass either of them. "Anyways, you want to talk, by all means…Let's talk, Miss…"
"Belladonna. Blake Belladonna. Nice to meet you, Spider-Man," the girl introduced herself with a nod.
"Likewise, but you can just call me Spidey," Spider-Man nodded in return, smiling widely at Blake even though she could not see it. Judging by how she relaxed and gave him a small smile in return, he had a hunch she could tell in spite of not seeing his face. He hated having to potentially wipe her smile away, but he had to remind her of this one important detail. "We're going to have to make this quick, though. Like I said, I've got somewhere I need to be, and I really don't want to keep Spider-Woman waiting for too long."
His comment did wipe away Blake's smile, but only so it could be replaced with a look of surprise. "There really is a Spider-Woman, too?"
"Yeah, my partner. Uh, as in crime-fighting partner. Not my partner, partner. I mean, we-we work together. We're like work friends. N-not to say she isn't awesome; she is! It's just that I don't think of her that way. She's more like a sister to me than anything else. Ours is a family-type of bond, and I have no idea why I'm even telling you all this when I should be answering your actual questions. Was that the first one, or was it gonna be something else?" Peter stammered out. He had no idea why he felt it necessary to clarify his relationship with Jessica in such a manner, but sometimes even he found himself wishing he could shut his mouth. Usually whenever he was in the presence of pretty girls.
Blake did not seem to pay his embarrassing little spiel too much mind though, and instead just focused on her questions for the web-head. It did not take too much for her to figure out where to start. "Why are you fighting the White Fang?"
Not the first thing Spider-Man was expecting her to ask, and if he were to be honest, he had no idea how to answer either. At least, not beyond a simple, "Huh?"
"The White Fang? You and your partner have been targeting them since the first day you appeared in Vale. I want to know why you're doing it. Did they do something to either of you? Or maybe someone you care about? Or are you trying to show that not all Faunus accept their new approach?" Blake clarified.
"Whoa, whoa! Slow down there, Blake. We're not targeting anybody," Spider-Man interrupted before she could offer up another possibility. He ended up back tracking a little though. "Well, we are kind of trying to track down this one criminal, but I'm pretty sure he isn't involved with the White Fang. Either way, we just happened to be in the neighborhood when they were committing crimes and we swung in to help."
"Just like that?" Blake asked in surprise.
"I mean…yeah. If you see something wrong is happening and you can do something to help, why wouldn't you try and lend a hand?" Spider-Man asked in return.
"That's it? You just helped out because you were in the area?"
"Partially. It's a little more complicated than that," Spidey admitted while gathering his thoughts on how to best explain this. "It doesn't really matter who it is, what they're doing, where, or even when. We have the ability to make a difference like no one else can, so it's not just a choice for us. It's a responsibility to use those abilities in the best way possible."
"By dressing up and playing superhero?" Blake could not help but question it, especially given how many times she had now looked over his suit. Given his past experiences with other heroes, Spidey had a feeling she did not think too highly of his outfit.
"First off, we're not 'playing;' we are superheroes," Spider-Man insisted. "Second, don't think I can't see you checking out my costume. I know, you don't think it's all that great, but not all of us can rock high fashion outfits while fighting bad guys. Sometimes it's just as much about function as it is fashion."
"Right," Blake mused, feeling it might be wise to humor him on this particular detail.
"…You're still judging my costume, aren't you?" Spidey accused.
"I mean, not in a bad way," Blake assured him. "I'm just not used to seeing a huntsman wearing something so…well, spandex-like."
"It is so not spandex! Why does everybody always think that?" Spider-Man grumbled. Blake had raised her hands up to show she meant no disrespect in saying that and that helped Spidey to focus on the other part of her last statement. "Also, what makes you think I'm a huntsman?"
"I mean…aren't you?" Blake asked, only to be surprised when Spidey shook his head in the negative. "Then…how are you able to…"
"Do whatever a spider can?" Spider-Man filled in for her.
"At the very least," Blake confirmed. Sure, she had a couple of ideas, but she wanted to hear the real story from Spider-Man instead of forming her own ideas based on the rumors she had been hearing around town.
"It's…complicated," Spider-Man eventually settled on saying. "Let's just say I'm different in a way that makes me capable of doing things no one else can do. The same goes for Spider-Woman, and the long version of the story is pretty hard to believe. Heck, I can hardly believe it sometimes, and I'm the one who's living this crazy life."
That was not an answer Blake had been looking for, but somehow, she knew it was the best she was probably going to get out of him on this matter, so she decided to move on to another point she wanted to bring up to him. "You know they're only going to get worse, right?" she asked him, earning a quiet, questioning look from Spider-Man. "The White Fang. The more time you and your partner spend going after them, even if you aren't directly targeting them like you say…"
"Because we're not," Spider-Man could not help but remind her.
"The more likely they're going to step up in their operations and attacks," Blake continued from where she left off. "So far, you've only had to deal with grunts or newer recruits, but sooner or later, you're going to get the attention of the higher-ranking members, and a good number of them can and have gone toe-to-toe with professional huntsmen, among other types of dangerous and skilled fighters."
Hearing this, Spider-Man could not help but scoff. "I'll admit, a small, very naïve part of me did hope they'd just give up and go home, but I've been swinging around fighting bad guys and saving lives for two years now. I know full well that things always tend to get worse before they get better. Still, unless the White Fang has got some guys that can compare to half the creeps I've had to fight in that time, I'm not too worried."
"You're not?"
"Nope." Spider-Man confidently affirmed.
Blake narrowed her gaze at Spider-Man for a few seconds before she offered up a simple dare. "Prove it."
Spider-Man glanced from side to side for a few seconds, and then asked, "Uh…how?"
In response, Blake reached back and drew the sword she had been carrying on her back, pointed it straight at him and said, "Let's see if you can beat me in a fight."
"How's that going to do anything other than prove you had lied when you said you don't want to kill me?" Spider-Man questioned.
"I wasn't lying about that. I'm not going to fight you with any intent to kill. Just think of this like a sparring match for training purposes," Blake clarified for him. She then allowed a teasing smirk to slowly inch its way onto her face as she added, "Unless you're one of those macho men who's scared of fighting and losing to a girl."
This drew a short laugh out of Spider-Man. "Oh! Oh, that's how it is, huh?"
"It's certainly looking that way," Blake teased as she spun her sword around in a few easy, relaxed flourishes.
Now Spidey had lost all reasons to refuse this challenge, and he proved it by rotating his arms around and doing some easy stretches to help get limbered up for the spar. He did feel like he needed to give Blake one last quick warning though. "I hope you weren't planning on asking me to not hold back, because if I were to fight you at full strength, I could very easily hurt you."
"Don't worry so much. I'm sure my Aura can handle it," Blake assured him, assuming a ready position to show she was ready anytime.
"That makes one of us," Spider-Man quipped as he dropped into his own battle stance to show he was now ready too.
The two stared each other down for several, tense moments, each of them waiting for the other to make a move. Now, Spidey might not be a trained fighter like Jessica or some of their Avengers teammates, but he did know enough to recognize some small signs to indicate someone had been well-trained. He was seeing a lot of those signs in Blake right now, even as her eyes flickered about him, studying his posture and looking for openings she could exploit if she decided to attack first. In the end, she ended up doing just that by charging forward at full speed, and while it may not be at the level of someone like Quicksilver, she did prove herself to be faster than most normal people that Spidey had met. Thankfully, she was not so fast that he was unable to dodge her first few swings, otherwise something probably would have been cut off. When Blake leapt up and over him, Spidey spotted his chance to strike back, and after dodging her next strike, he made his move.
Firing out a web-line, Spidey managed to snag Blake by the leg and immediately pulled himself in for a fast, hard web-strike. He was certain his strike would connect, but to his surprise, it did not hit Blake. If anything, it felt like he had hit solid air in the shape of Blake, and the girl in question had used his moment of disorientation to counterattack from behind with an easy kick. That did not stop Spidey for long though, and he was back at it again very quickly. This time, he went for a more offensive approach, unleashing a barrage of punches and kicks to force Blake on the defensive. Honestly, he was getting to be pretty impressed with how easily she was keeping up, but he still managed to score a couple of hits all the same. Not to say Blake did not land some hits as well, but he was really glad that none of her sword strikes ever landed. Some of them did come pretty close though.
"Hey! Easy with that thing! I'm not trying to trash your awesome outfit, so lay off the threads. This suit doesn't fix itself, you know," Spidey snapped when Blake's sword nearly cut into his suit for the fourth time since this started. "Not yet at least," he could not help muttering under his breath.
"Are you making fun of my outfit right now?" Blake questioned with a narrowed gaze.
"How does calling your outfit awesome qualify as me making fun of it? It really is cool. Got a real French warrior beauty aesthetic going for you," Spidey quipped soon after, throwing Blake off her game a little bit at the praise. Not to say no one had ever complimented her before, but it was never in such an eager or honest way like Spidey seemed to be doing. Her distraction ended up costing her though when she felt her sword pulled out of her hand, courtesy of another web-line. "Haha! Now let's see how tough you are without this oversized kitchen knife."
Blake's eyes narrowed again, not willing to take that insult to her weapon lying down, and reached back to remove the sword sheath from her back. When she charged again, Spidey nimbly dodged, thinking Blake was going to use the sheath like a club, but when he saw her cut through the AC unit behind him, he realized that was not the case. "Are you kidding me?! You mean your sword sheath is also a sword?!" he exclaimed in shock, only to pause and ponder something else. "Isn't that kind of dangerous to be carrying it around on your back like that?"
"The magnetic backpack I carry it on usually does a good job in keeping it from cutting anything I don't want it to," Blake shrugged like it was either no big deal or just obvious.
Before Spidey could further question this, Blake had started to rush him again, this time scooping up the sword he had swiped from her earlier so she would have a little more of an edge against him. As a result, Spidey was doing everything he could to dodge a deadly dance of blades, until he finally got an opening to begin pelting Blake with web-bullets, hoping to either web her up or get her stuck in place long enough for him to retaliate. Blake did not let his webs land so easily though, as she managed to slice through most of the web-bullets, and when some of them did hit, she seemed to vanish into thin air and reappear unharmed like before. Eventually, he decided to change things up, and instead of firing directly at her, he fired some webs at the ground where she was walking. Thanks to this little trick, Blake was caught off guard when her foot suddenly got stuck in some of those very same webs, giving Spidey the chance he had been waiting for to retaliate again.
He had to quickly back off from his assault though, because Blake did not leave herself open for very long. Instead, she made her sword's blade fold in on itself, took aim with the resulting shape, and fired several rounds of bullets that most ordinary people would not be able to dodge from such close range. Luckily, Spidey had both his trusted sixth sense and reflexes to save him, but he was still stunned by what happened. So much so, he did not even get the chance to stop Blake from cutting apart the webs holding her using her cleaver sheath and the folded up sword. Of course, calling it a sword now might not be too accurate, as it looked like an entirely different weapon in its folded-up state, something that Spidey had to question.
"Seriously? Your sheath is a cleaver blade, and you can turn your sword into a gun? Man, I am so due for an equipment upgrade," Spidey griped as he proceeded to dodge the next round of gunfire that Blake sent his way.
Blake could not help but quirk a brow at this, seeing as mechashift weapons like hers were pretty common place nowadays, but then again, it's not like everyone could be expected to have seen one in person before, so she shrugged it off for the time being. She had to focus on the fight for now, and quickly readied her next move while replying, "If you like that, then you're going to love this next move."
To Spidey's surprise, her next move had her throwing the folded up sword at him, which now that he thought about it, looked a lot like a sickle in its current state. He figured it would be no problem to dodge the flying weapon, but after the first flip, he heard another gunshot, and then felt something wrap around his middle. He only got a few seconds to look down and see the black ribbon that he had been caught in before Blake gave the other end of the ribbon a hard pull, sending him crashing into the ground. As he lay there, still wrapped up in Blake's ribbon, Spidey could not help but think about the irony of falling into a move he had used on many criminals before, and had to comment, "So that's what that feels like."
The next thing the web-head knew, Blake's other blade was at his neck, while she kept a grip on her ribbon, a small look of disappointment on her face. "I guess you really don't have what it takes to stop the White Fang," Blake noted sadly. "You may want to yield now. Trust me, this is a kindness compared to what some of the White Fang's better members can do."
Spidey barked out a short laugh upon hearing this. "Trust me, lady, the last thing you ever want to do is give a Spider a chance to give up. It's a waste of time for one thing, and for another, it also gives us the perfect chance to strike back."
Blake thought he was just being stubborn or bluffing at first, until he suddenly spun around and swept her feet out from under her, taking her off-guard again, and causing her to lose her grip on the ribbon holding Spider-Man. Now free of the long, black rope, Spidey jumped up and threw out a devastating blow that would have nearly broken an ordinary person in half. When it connected, he was worried that he might have done just that, until Blake vanished in a cloud of smoke while Blake herself rolled backwards from where she had been and onto her feet again. She still had to pause and catch her breath, especially after seeing how the roof had cracked a bit under the force of Spidey's latest blow, and quickly realized he had not been exaggerating earlier when he mentioned how dangerous it was for him to fight at full strength.
"You're still holding back, right?" she could not help but ask.
"Yeah. Sorry, that last one might've had a bit more strength behind it than I intended. Guess I've gotten too used to fighting guys who can take some of my more serious hits," Spidey shrugged in apology. "Also, how do you keep doing that? What, do you have some kind shadow clone power or something, because I'm pretty sure someone might want to sue for copyright if that's the case."
Once again Blake was left a little bewildered by something Spider-Man had said, but all the same she stood up straight and gave him an honest answer. "I can't help it. That's my Semblance. I create a shadow to aid me in battle, usually by taking a hit for me so I can escape taking serious injury and strike back."
"Huh. So that's what a Semblance is like," Spider-Man could not help but mutter to himself. He shook off this moment of contemplation and prepared for another attack, only to stop short when he saw Blake sheathing her weapons. "Wait, what're you doing? Aren't we going to keep going?"
"No. I think I've seen all that I needed to," Blake admitted with a small smile. "You are definitely good. Probably even better than I was expecting. I guess you've done a lot of training with your Aura and Semblance."
"Yeah…Um, about that…I actually don't have either of those things," Spidey sheepishly admitted. He was not sure why he was admitting to it, but something about this girl made him feel like he could open up about that.
"What?" Blake gasped in astonishment. "But how? All living things have Aura. Except for the Grimm, but only because they don't have souls. Besides, the strength, the speed, the reflexes…I've only seen that kind of thing from people who have had their Aura unlocked."
"Well, I'm not saying I don't have an Aura at all, just not in the same sense as you do," Spider-Man tried to explain, only to fail as he ended up confusing Blake even more. "Look, the short version is, people where I'm from, don't really have the luxury of Soul Shields or being able to rely on huntsmen for protection. We've had to make do with other means, and that includes how people end up getting unique abilities like mine."
"I see," Blake mused. She did not really know what else she could say right now. The idea that people could get this kind of power without unlocking their Aura or Semblance just seemed so unreal to her. In fact, it almost sounded like something out of a comic book, but she figured it would be silly to question it further. "All the same, I guess I can rest a little easier knowing you can hold your own so well. Maybe with your help, the White Fang can be set back on the path it started out on."
"You seem pretty heavily invested in the White Fang and what they do," Spider-Man could not help but note.
"Yeah…let's just say I have a…certain history with the White Fang. Plus, I just don't like the dark path they've been going down lately after they started out with such noble intentions," Blake hedged as best she could.
Spider-Man nodded in agreement with her on this. "I get that. Believe me, this wouldn't be the first time I've seen something good being turned into something it wasn't meant to be." The two then fell into a brief, heavy silence, neither one really sure what to say or do at this point, until Spidey finally broke the ice again. "So…what now?"
"I don't really know," Blake admitted. "I want to say I feel comfortable leaving things to you, but I still want to try and help however I can."
"Hey, nothing wrong with that. In fact, I think you really should try to do whatever you can to help others, too," Spidey told her, much to her surprise. "Maybe not in the same way I am, but it seems pretty clear you've got both the skill and power to make a difference in the world, big or small. And as someone really important once told me, with great power there must also come great responsibility."
Hearing his famous mantra seemed to bring a smile to Blake's face, and she gave him a thankful nod before turning away. "Thank you, Spider-Man."
"My pleasure. It's not every day somebody shoots you out of the sky and ends up only wanting to talk and have a friendly spar, so this has been a nice change of pace," Spider-Man replied.
"Not just for that. You've also helped me feel a little more confident in the decision I made about what I want to do going forward," Blake revealed to him.
"Oh. Well, I'm glad I could help. I guess," Spider-Man nodded in response. He would have added more had a sudden explosion from nearby not gotten their attention. "I should probably check that out."
"Don't let me stop you," Blake assured him. Right before he was going to swing off though, she quickly remembered something else. "Wait! There's one other thing I need say."
"Yes?" Spider-Man asked, still grasping on the web-line he had just shot out.
Blake needed to take a moment to gather her courage, but after their spar just now and a deep breath, she felt like she had more than enough reason to tell him this. "When you deal with the White Fang going forward, be on the lookout for a man dressed in black with red hair, black bull horns, and a sword with a red blade. The scabbard he keeps it in is also a gun, but it's the man himself you need to be careful of. He's probably the worst of the White Fang, because he actually enjoys killing anyone he feels is responsible for the suppression of the Faunus, especially humans."
"Red hair, bull horns, red sword with a gun scabbard, and gets a kick out of killing people," Spidey noted aloud. "Thanks for the heads-up. We'll be sure to keep an eye out. You stay safe out there."
With his final peace said, Spidey swung off to where the explosion had come from, leaving Blake to watch as he departed. Even though she was smiling after him, she could not help but feel a little saddened. Sure, she may have left him and the White Fang, but it was still a little raw, so she could not help feeling like she may have been betraying Adam a little more by giving Spider-Man this warning. Then again, she probably would have felt worse if she had not told him anything, and it felt good to get this weight off her chest, so maybe having someone know would be a good thing. Taking some comfort in knowing someone was now aware of the danger Adam posed would have to be enough for now, as Blake had other matters to attend to at the moment. Namely, making sure she had everything she would need with the airship to Beacon departed in a couple of days.
A few minutes earlier…
"I think you're gonna have to go on ahead without me. Looks like somebody wants to play one of my 'favorite' games."
"That being?" Jessica asked while waiting a short distance from the entrance to Junior's club. She had a feeling the Old Parker Luck might strike, but she did not think it would be this bad.
"Kill the Spider. Don't wait up, Sis," Peter jovially replied right after.
"Wait, no! Peter, don't hang…up," Jessica tried to stop him, but the line had already gone dead by the time she had finished talking. "Great. Now I'm definitely gonna have to question him solo. I was really hoping it wouldn't come to that."
Jess had been expecting the Old Parker Luck to rear its ugly head today, but she did not expect for it to cost her the backup she so desperately wanted for her original plan. Granted, it was not a plan she was too fond of, but it was the better option over going the more conventional route of interrogating the gang leader in what could only be his base of operations. Sadly, it looked like she would be doing just that, because there was no way she was using going in there alone and using said original plan. Lucky thing she was already here and all decked out for a night on the town.
It had not taken much for Jessica to dress up like she was ready for a night of clubbing, but she figured it would help if she looked especially good tonight. The best way to describe her current outfit would be to say she looked like she was ready for a night on the town and intended to draw more than a few eager gazes. Her current attire would probably have helped her original plan quite a bit, even if she did go in when she had intended, but now, having stood outside the establishment waiting for Peter for so long, it seemed pretty obvious that she had not intended to go in alone, so to go in by herself now would likely draw the wrong kind of attention. The kind that usually came in the form of pity-looks and awkward feelings, and such a thing would not be beneficial to her at all. The only way she could resolve this would be if Peter showed up in the next couple minutes, or if some random stranger showed up that she could happen to stroll in with as casually as possible, and obviously the first one was not too likely. She was seriously considering just swallowing the bitter pill and going in alone, when someone suddenly came screeching to a stop by the curb, grabbing her attention.
The person in question had rode in on a very nice looking motorcycle, and if Jess was dressed to impress, then this girl looked like she was ready to work the runway. From her fair skin, her toned arms that rippled with muscle, and long blonde hair that blew freely in the wind once she had removed her helmet, it was easy to see she was almost effortlessly beautiful. Add in the jacket she wore over a low cut yellow shirt, brown belt with pleated material circling around her waist, black shorts, fingerless gloves, and brown boots with orange socks, and you could tell she was more than just a pretty face; she was also a girl of action. The yellow bracelets on her wrists certainly seemed to emphasize that point, as Jessica had a strong hunch they were more than simple accessories, like the scarf she had around her neck, or the long white, asymmetrical piece of material reaching down to her knee on her right side, all of which she noted as she approached the girl.
"Hey, sweet bike. She yours?" Jessica asked as an icebreaker.
When the girl turned to face her, Jessica was greeted with the sight of vibrant lilac eyes that sparkled with the same joy her wide grin held upon hearing her compliment. "Yep," the girl proudly confirmed. "Practically built her with my own two hands. Good old Bumblebee here's been a good, faithful friend ever since."
"Bumblebee, huh?" Jessica mused aloud. "You're not about to tell me it can turn into a giant robot from another planet too, are you?"
"Yeah, I wish. That'd be so awesome though," the girl chuckled in good humor. "Where'd you get that idea from?"
"A movie one of my best friends made me sit through once," Jessica shrugged, thinking back to one of the first movie nights she and Peter had. She considered herself lucky that her Spider-Brother had not made her sit through any Star Wars or Star Trek for that night, considering how much of a sci-fi nerd Peter was, but she did enjoy both series when they did get around to them. Focusing back on the current conversation, Jessica held her hand out to the blonde stranger and finally introduced herself. "I'm Jessica. Jessica Drew."
"Yang Xiao Long. Nice to meet you," the blonde nodded upon accepting the handshake. "I don't think I've seen around here before though."
"A friend and I only just got into the city a few weeks ago," Jessica informed her, keeping it short and simple just to be safe. You never know when someone you meet by chance may end up putting a few details together.
"Only a few weeks ago, huh? Guess that means you got into town just in time to see the Spider-Heroes jumping into action," Yang noted aloud with an excited grin.
"Yeah, I guess you could say that," Jessica replied, already seeing Yang trying to put a few things together. Luckily, it was not too hard to find another topic of conversation to pull them away from this one. "So what brings a nice girl like you out to this part of town?"
Jessica thanked her lucky stars when Yang took the hook. "I heard the guy who runs this club here knows a lot about tons of different stuff going on, be it in Vale, or even in other parts of the world. I was hoping to pick his brain to see if he could answer some questions I have."
"Oh yeah? You do know the guy's supposed to be a crime boss or something, right?" Jessica pointed out to her as a word of caution.
"Yeah, I heard, but I'm sure I can persuade him to share some info with me. I'm good at getting guys to give me what I want from them," Yang smirked widely while batting her eyes in an almost coy manner.
Hearing this made Jessica glad that Captain America was not here; otherwise, they would probably be getting a visit from "Papa Steve," as Tony called it. Still, she had to admire this girl's courage in the face of walking into the lion's den and possibly provoking the top cat himself, but she could not help but feel curious. "What kind of info are you after anyway?"
Yang's grin faded a little bit, and a serious expression took over that Jessica felt was a little out of place on the girl as she replied. "I'm looking for someone."
Jessica studied the girl, seeing how serious she had gotten, and quickly deduced that whoever this person Yang was looking for might be, they had left a rather profound impact on Yang's life, and most likely not in a good way. So, she deiced to take a page out of Peter's playbook and went to try and cheer her up with a little joke. "Let me guess: ex-boyfriend who broke your heart and now you want to get back at him because he skipped town or something?"
Her joke did the trick, as Yang let out a brief chuckle in response. "Nah, nothing like that. Besides, if anyone, boy or girl, did break my heart, they wouldn't get the chance to do much of anything afterwards. I'd make sure of it."
Jessica found it surprising how freely this girl basically admitted to being bisexual, but what was more interesting was how she could have sworn Yang's eyes had turned red for the briefest of seconds. It was there and gone in an instant though, so she could not be sure if it had just been a trick of the light, and she did not get much chance to question Yang about it either, since Yang was already turning the conversation back around on her. "What about you? What brings you out to the shady side of Vale?"
"Same as you, in a way. I'm trying to track somebody down and every word on the street I heard said that Junior Xiong is the guy to talk to for this kind of info. So, I'm hoping he'll be willing to talk with me," Jessica admitted, having no trouble keeping it simple and free of any Spider-Hero details.
Yang nodded along in acceptance of this explanation, but could not help glancing around afterwards like she still had questions. "Then what're you doing out here by yourself when you should be going in for those answers? Are you expecting Junior to come out to you or something?"
"No, I was actually waiting for a friend to show up and act as backup. I've heard just as many rumors saying Junior was a crime boss, so I didn't want to go in alone. Sadly, it looks like his infamous luck is preventing him from showing up," Jessica sighed in sad admittance.
"Sounds like you've got one lousy boyfriend then," Yang guessed, earning a grossed-out look from Jessica.
"I'll admit, Pete's cute in a geeky sort of way, but there is no way in a million years I'd ever consider him as my boyfriend. He's more along the lines of my best friend who's like a brother, you know?" Jessica explained.
Yang shrugged in response. "Kind of, sort of. I mean, my best friend is definitely my little sister, but I don't think it's as easily comparable to you."
"It's close enough," Jessica reassured her. Feeling that she had hooked Yang in well enough by now, she decided to broach the real reason why she came over to talk to her at last. "Say, would you mind going in with me? At this point, I'm pretty sure someone inside has noticed me, and I'd rather not get a bunch of awkward or pity looks from everyone when I step inside."
"Sure, I don't mind. Besides, everything's more fun when you do it with a friend, even if it's one you only just made," Yang happily agreed.
"In that case, feel free to call me Jess. All my friends do," Jessica told Yang as she followed her into the club.
Yang pondered this over for a moment before she asked, "You mind if I call you Jessie instead?"
"A little bit, actually. A work friend used to go by that nickname, and she hates it now. Like to the point where she's made me very against the idea of going by it, personally," Jessica told her.
"Good to know, Jess," Yang nodded, and with that, the two stepped into the club, gracing their ears with the sound of the upbeat music blaring through the speakers and their eyes with the various, colorful lights flashing throughout the room.
From the look of things, it must have still been pretty early into business hours, because most of the people inside right now appeared to be the people who worked here. Sure, there were a few people here that looked to be regular patrons, but the rest were all employees. Employees that were all decked out in black suits, red ties, fedoras, and red shades, just like the goons she and Peter had taken down the night when they met Torchwick. If this did not prove she was in the right place, she was not sure what would, but there were still a few things that would make her doubt it. After all, from what little experience she had with the club scene, things seemed pretty normal to her. An open bar off to the side, loud music blaring in her ears, flashing lights that would likely give some people a headache after a long enough time, and she could swear she spotted a couple of lady dancers off to the side looking bored as they waited for business to pick up. The only thing that made her stop and stare for a moment was definitely up in the DJ booth though.
"Is that DJ wearing a bear costume?" Jessica asked Yang, just to make sure she was not seeing things.
Yang looked over to where the DJ stood and quickly nodded in confirmation. Sure enough, the DJ was wearing a bear costume. Seeing the low-hanging fruit, Yang immediately grinned and said, "Guess he's making sure everyone keeps roaring for a great time."
Jessica could only stare at Yang in disbelief for what she just heard, but still had to practically beg when she stated, "You did not just say that."
"What I can say? The urge was just too un-bear-able," Yang punned once again, throwing out finger-guns to better emphasize her joke when she did.
And just like that, Jessica's hand was meeting her forehead while she groaned a little miserably. She could not believe that even without Peter here, she was still being subjected to such horrible humor. As Yang's attractiveness dropped in her mind, Jessica felt she had to comment. "You and my Bro would likely make great friends. Your sense of humor is about as bad as his."
"Or as great," Yang insisted with a grin.
Jessica would have commented further, had a flash of red and white by the bar not caught her eye. She quickly turned in that direction and spotted none other than Roman Torchwick himself conversing with someone before moving to make his exit from the bar. Jessica could not help but smirk internally at this latest change in her luck, but if she was going to go after him, she was going to have to ditch Yang and change to Spider-Woman pretty quickly. Luckily, one of those things was going to be easier than the other.
"Hey, sorry to bail on you like this, but I just spotted a guy who owes me, like, a ton of money. If I don't grab him now, who knows when I'll see him again," Jessica excused to Yang.
"Don't worry about it," Yang waved off. "I'm sure I can handle Junior on my own well enough. But hey, maybe if you get back fast enough, I'll be able to treat you to a drink or something?"
"Looking forward to that," Jessica agreed, and with that the two parted ways. One of them heading to an out of the way area to change into her costumed, crime-fighting secret identity, and the other strolling up to the bar so she could get the ball rolling on the excitement that was about to consume the night.
"Strawberry Sunrise. No ice. Oh, and one of those little umbrellas," Yang ordered once she had reached the bar, making sure she was standing right next to Junior Xiong when she did.
Roman Torchwick felt like this had been a good day. Not a single Spider-Hero problem had hindered his progress in robbing the kingdom of all its Dust, he had easily evaded all form of authorities and would-be heroes once more, and best of all, he just managed to secure some extra help for the Dust Store robbery he was planning for tomorrow night. Nothing could ruin his night, or so he thought, and then a rather familiar bolt of electricity struck the ground in front of him. Shortly after the lightning strike came the woman responsible for it, flipping down from somewhere above him in her red and yellow suited glory, a knowing grin etched on her masked face.
"Wow, this is kind of awkward or just plain weird," Spider-Woman remarked. "I mean, you go out of your way to a place hoping to get some info on a guy you're looking for, and as it turns out, the very person you're tracking down happens to be right there. Don't you think that's weird?"
"More like annoying, if you ask me," Torchwick muttered grumpily. "Why don't you buzz off, Bug. I'm a little busy."
"First off, spiders are not bugs, and they don't buzz," Spider-Woman pointedly corrected. "Second, last I checked, anything that keeps you busy is usually something that keeps my partner and I busy. Namely with stopping you and your cohorts from doing whatever illegal thing you normally go around doing. So what is it that's got you so preoccupied tonight, hmm? Another Dust robbery? Maybe attacking authority figures? Or are you just hiring some goons for your next job? I mean, it would make sense, seeing as no one would want to work for you full-time. They'd be too scared of the idea that you would make them dress like you do, and who would really want to wear a coat like yours with a hat like that?"
"Like you're one to talk about outfit choices, Mrs. Spandex," Roman quipped back. He took a quick glance around afterwards before asking, "Speaking of your partner though, where would he be tonight? Off busy with a real woman, maybe?"
"We don't have that kind of relationship. Ours is a more familial bond than anything," Spider-Woman informed him, hardly believing she was having to explain that to a criminal now. Then again, people back on Earth were making similar assumptions after her first public appearance as Spider-Woman, so why would the people of this world not make a similar conclusion? "As for where Spidey is right now…well, he's running late. I guess he didn't think you were worth the effort to show up on time. So, how about you just dance with me until the cops come and get you? I mean, it's not like you've got any explosive distractions to save you this time around."
Roman bristled at both the insult and the obvious threat at the end, and was just reaching for his cane when a loud crash sounded from inside Junior's club. Neither of them paid it too much mind at first, but when a loud explosion seemed to go off a few minutes later, they quickly grew a little more curious. Roman smirked at knowing the opportunity this provided, and could not help but gloat about it to Spider-Woman. "Well, well, well. Would you look at that: an explosive distraction to save me, and I'm betting you can't keep me here while checking to make sure everyone inside is safe. I mean, this is the business of a known gang leader, you know. I'd hate to think of what could be happening to all the 'innocent' civilians inside right now."
Now Spider-Woman was the one bristling, as she knew Roman had a point. Sure, this club was filled with lowlifes and gangsters, but there were just as many civilians in there too. Luckily, she had seen a good number of them fleeing from the building after that first crash, but even after the explosion, she had not seen any sign of Yang coming out with the others, so she had to assume her new friend was still inside. Regardless of how worried she was about the blonde, Spider-Woman had no intention of just leaving Torchwick to run away, and easily shot him with a Venom Blast. Roman dodged the initial blast easily enough, but he was unprepared for the sudden spin-kick that Spider-Woman hit him with right after, knocking him out cold.
"Now don't go anywhere this time," Spider-Woman ordered the unconscious criminal mastermind. "I would web you up, but that's usually Spider-Man's job, and I don't have any intention of taking up a set of web-shooters again."
With her criminal target temporarily subdued, Spider-Woman hurried back into the club to see what was causing such a commotion. She would later wish she had been able to tie up Torchwick, as his partner, Neopolitan came skipping along shortly after she had left, rolling her eyes tiredly as she struggled to carry her partner away from the club. Not an easy feat for a woman of Neo's stature, but she would manage all the same if it meant keeping Roman out of prison for another night.
"Geez! I was barely gone for more than five minutes! What could've happened here in such a short amount of time?!" Spider-Woman exclaimed as she made her way back into the club, making sure to remain unseen for the time being. It did not take her long to figure out where all the commotion was centered, as it looked like every goon in the joint was racing to said location right now, only to get blasted back soon after by a familiar blonde. "Yang?! What in the world is she doing? I thought she was just here to get answers for something, not to start a bar fight!"
Jessica kept out of sight as she watched Yang proceed to tear her way through every thug in the joint, often times blasting them with the yellow gauntlets that had taken the place of her bracelets. Seeing said weapons quickly helped confirm Jessica's previous theory about said accessories being more than just a fashion choice, but it was the girl wielding them that had grabbed Jessica's attention in full. From what she could see, Yang's fighting style seemed most similar to kickboxing, what with how she easily knocked down every thug that came after her with easy kicks and punches. What's more, a good number of her punches were actually strengthened by her firing off her gauntlets, either through blasting her targets as she punched them, or by using said blasts to make her strikes hit harder and faster.
Eventually, nearly every thug in the room was either unconscious or knocked through one of the many glass pillars surrounding the dance floor, and Spider-Woman was certain that Yang's troubles were over. At least, she had been until the Bear DJ pulled out a machine gun and started firing on her. Luckily, it seemed Yang had noticed this new problem beforehand, and easily began racing away from every point where the shots would have hit, using her shotgun gauntlets to give her a little extra boost of speed in dodging. Those same gauntlets soon helped propel Yang towards the bear-costumed shooter, letting her flip over the mixing board so she could land a double-kick into Bear-Man's chest, followed by a hard elbow to the head that left him disoriented long enough for Yang to grab him and slam him into his mixing table. The coup de grace came by way of Yang getting both hands underneath Bear-Man's midsection and blasting him up into the air, where he soon crashed down on the dance floor below.
"Damn. She's good," Spider-Woman quietly praised from her perch above the action. Thinking about what she just witnessed and Yang's armaments though, helped her to realize something else. "She's gotta be one of those huntresses Spidey and I have been hearing about, or at the very least, a huntress-in-training." Before she could add any further thoughts though, she noticed that Yang was reloading her gauntlets, and looked to see a couple new challengers had joined the fight: a pair of girls decked out in red and white dresses, and who could probably be twins with how much they looked alike. Seeing this made Jessica decide it was time to stop standing on the sidelines as she declared to herself, "Time to even the odds a little bit."
Yang had been preparing to blast down onto the dance floor so she could engage the Malachite Twins, when someone suddenly landed next to her, startling both her and her two opponents. When she turned to face the newcomer, thinking it was another enemy, she had to almost physically restrain herself from throwing a punch upon getting a good look at the woman now standing alongside her. "Hey," Spider-Woman casually waved to everyone. "Is this a private fight, or can any crime fighters join in?"
"No way! Spider-Woman!" Yang excitedly cheered. "My sister is a huge fan of both you and your partner. Any chance I can get an autograph for her?"
"Let's take care of things here first, and then we'll see," Spider-Woman shrugged as she narrowed her gaze on the twins.
"My kind of deal," Yang grinned. "I'll take the red one if you handle white."
"Sounds like a plan," Spider-Woman agreed, and the two leapt into action.
Yang was throwing fire-blast-loaded punches all the way down, and continued to do so even after she and Spider-Woman had landed on the dance floor. She did not stop blasting at the twins until Militia finally had an opening in her firing to get in close. Not that it really mattered, because Yang was ready for her all the same, blocking every blow and slash that the red-clad twin let loose on her. Melanie would have joined her sister in attacking Yang had Spider-Woman not come swooping in to intercept her, forcing her to focus all her efforts on the female Spider-Hero.
If it had been Yang fighting her, Melanie probably would have had a leg up on things, given her fast kicks and flips, but Spider-Woman was a different story. Not surprising, given that having the proportionate reflexes, agility, and strength of a spider gave Spider-Woman a natural advantage over most anyone on a normal basis, but Spider-Woman had no intention of dragging things out for long. Instead, she went for every critical strike she could find, and even fired off a few rounds of bio-energy blasts to try and incapacitate Melanie faster. A good deal of her shots missed, and ended up shattering the glass structures around the dance floor along with Yang's stray shots, but all Spider-Woman needed was for a small few to land, and they did land. In no time at all, both twins were incapacitated; Militia due to a final, hard kick from Yang, and Melanie going down via a bio-energy charged punch from Spider-Woman.
"I'll admit, ladies: you're good, but I'm better," Spider-Woman could not help gloating. "And I'm also the one who's trained alongside one of the deadliest master assassins you'll likely ever meet."
"Wait, you trained with an assassin?" Yang questioned, hardly believing a hero would work with someone like that.
"Well…former assassin, but still a master," Spider-Woman explained as best she could. It was a little hard to explain anything about her friends and teammates from Earth without actually admitting to being from another planet.
Any chance Yang would have had to question her further was killed when the lights suddenly went down a little along with the music's sudden change in tone, and the two ladies soon turned their attention back to the stage to see Junior standing there with a large bazooka hoisted over his shoulder and an angry glare on his face. "You're gonna pay for this," Junior snarled at the girls. "Both of you."
"If I actually cared about any debts I owed to criminals, I'd probably be as worried about my finances as my partner typically is," Spider-Woman quipped in response. Her eyes widened when she realized the horrible joke she just made, and she soon grumbled, "God, Spider-Man, I'm going to kill you for corrupting me like this."
"Hey, it's not that bad," Yang shrugged, apparently not worried about the gang leader aiming a bazooka at them. Given that she was able to leap out of the way of Junior's first salvo almost as quickly and easily as her new wall-crawling friend, Spider-Woman could guess why. A few more, well-placed blasts from both girls managed to destroy the remaining rockets before they could hit, but neither of them were able to do anything to stop Junior from using the smoke as a cover so he could get in close and bash Yang a few times over with his weapon, which he could apparently transform into a large club.
Spider-Woman did not take that lying down, and immediately went on the counterattack, hitting Junior in every way that she could for his attack on her new friend. She even made sure to add an extra shock by infusing her punches with Venom Strikes just so she was sure her attacks would hurt when they landed, but Junior seemed like he was able to take a little pain, because he was able to walk it off enough to bat her aside too. Spider-Woman would have unleashed a more powerful barrage of Venom Blasts for that, had a sudden explosion of fire not grabbed her attention, and seconds later, Yang had rejoined the fight.
When the blonde leapt into action this time, Spider-Woman could not help but stop and stare as it looked like her hair had caught fire and all of her subsequent attacks seemed just as blazing hot. As Yang continued to land blow after fiery blow on Junior, Spider-Woman saw proof that she had not been seeing things before, as Yang's eyes turned bright red, possibly a sign of just how serious she was getting when she landed one final blow that sent Junior flying across the room. When he went, Junior's weapon ended up broken in two, but he also took a souvenir with him: a couple strands of Yang's hair, much to his amusement and both girls' shock.
"Ooooooh, shouldn't have done that," Spider-Woman muttered as Yang glared at him with even more fire than she had already unleashed so far, and her red eyes seemed to burn just as hot.
Said fire only grew hotter when the fire on Yang's hair exploded outward, lighting nearly the entire room in a blaze, and Yang soon blasted forward with an enrage scream as she socked Junior square in the jaw with one last, explosive punch that rocked the whole building. In point of fact, it was so powerful that Spider-Woman's Spider-Sense went crazy in warning her to get away from the blast zone. Good thing she decided to listen to it, otherwise, she would have been caught up in the resulting fire that had erupted from Yang's initial explosion at best, and both that and the explosion that resulted from her last hit on Junior at worst.
"Yikes. And I thought Hulk had anger issues," Spider-Woman muttered to herself as she saw Junior land on the street in front of his club, right at the feet of a young girl in a red cloak.
"Wait, wait, wait. You mean that explosion was because of a girl throwing a temper tantrum? Holy thwip, what did I miss?" a playful voice questioned, prompting Spider-Woman to turn around and see that her partner had finally arrived on the scene.
"Long story, but here's a better question: where have you been?" Spider-Woman asked.
"Uh…long story," Spider-Man replied, but Jessica had come to know Peter long enough to recognize when he was nervous or embarrassed about something. It was a little hard to tell which it was at the moment, but right now, they had bigger fish to fry.
"Well, while you were off doing…whatever it is, I managed to catch a certain criminal mastermind in our web at last," Spider-Woman informed him, having now dismissed the matter between Yang and Junior in favor of their original target for being here. "Just follow me, and you'll find a certain Roman Torchwick knocked out and ready for webbing."
Spider-Man happily followed after his female counterpart, eager to see what she was promising, but his mood soon changed when they landed in the alleyway Spider-Woman had left Torchwick in and found no sign of any criminals anywhere, mastermind or otherwise. "Is he invisible or did you stash him in one of the trash bins?"
"No, no, no! Don't tell me he got away again!" Spider-Woman protested, but alas, it was true. Torchwick had escaped once more.
"Well, at least we still have a way of tracking down where he went," Spider-Man shrugged, choosing to look to the silver lining of the matter. He then glanced back up at the club that had just exploded and asked, "We can still track him down by talking to Junior, right?"
"Uh…yeah, but…he may not be awake when we go to get him," Spider-Woman admitted, confusing Spider-Man on what she could mean by that.
While the Spider-Heroes were having their little meeting, Yang had leapt out from the club and onto the street where Junior had ended up, still eager to beat the snot out of the hair-pulling jerk if he was still in one piece. At least, that had been the plan until a familiar voice caught her attention, asking, "Yang? Is that you?"
"Oh! Hey Sis," Yang waved cheerily, her previous bad mood fading away as fast as the red that had taken over her lilac eyes a second ago.
"What're you doing here?" Ruby demanded as she shot Yang a look and placed her hands on her hips.
Yang glanced around at the recently demolished building she had just been inside, the fool on the ground who had dared to pull out some of her hair, and her little sister, all while thinking about the awesome team-up she had just been a part of, before she ultimately sighed and said, "It's a long story."
'Of course it is,' Ruby could not help but tiredly think to herself. Right when she was about to say something else to Yang though, a pair of web-lines suddenly latched onto Junior, and hoisted him up into the air. The sisters both spun around to follow his path, and ended up going wide-eyed when they saw Junior being held in the arms of none other than Spider-Man.
"Sorry ladies, but I'm afraid I need to have a word with this low-life. He's got some info my partner and I need, but I promise, I'll put him right back outside for the cops to get him later. Okay, get home safe now, and have a good night," Spider-Man hurriedly told the two before swinging off into the night, lugging Junior along with him like a sack of potatoes.
Ruby and Yang could only stare after where Spider-Man had swung off to, until the former let a wide, excited grin cross her face as she cheered, "That was…He was actually…Oh my GOD! SPIDER-MAN WAS HERE!"
Yang could not help but grin at her sister's excitement, knowing it was only going to grow when she told her this next little detail, but she still told her anyway. "If you think that's cool, guess who just had a team-up with Spider-Woman and beat down a room full of bad guys," she told Ruby. She then pointed to herself as she proudly declared, "This girl."
"No. Way! You teamed-up with Spider-Woman?! Tell me everything!" Ruby eagerly demanded, earning an amused chuckle from her sister.
Yang did still fulfill Ruby's request, but only after she got her sister to agree that they do so somewhere away from the destroyed club. The last thing she wanted was for them to be hanging around a place that the police were likely to investigate within the next few minutes, because she knew Ruby would not be able to handle being locked up for very long.
AN: And that takes care of that. Spidey and Jess have their way of finding where Roman's going to be next, Spidey met Blake, Spider-Woman met Yang as both Jessica and Spider-Woman, and Ruby got a glimpse of at least one of her newest heroes. The only thing that could make things better would be Ruby getting to have a little face-to-face time with said heroes.
Jessica: Um, can I ask about what it was me and Peter had been talking about at the beginning? You know, the thing I "wasn't too fond of"?
AN: If people know your story like I think they should, they probably already have an idea. But, if they don't, well, they'll have to wait until next chapter to find out the answers on that front.
Blake: Bigger mystery is why did you have me tell Spider-Man about Adam so soon?
AN: Hey, it's not like you told him all the nitty-gritty details regarding your past with him. All you told him was a description of Adam and why the Spider-Heroes should be careful of him. Well that, and how he gets a kick out of killing people. Maybe not to the same extent as say Carnage, but he still enjoys it.
As for why, I think the better question would be why wouldn't she? Just because Blake left the White Fang and doesn't like talking about it, doesn't mean she won't at least try to warn someone about one of its most dangerous members if she think they can handle fighting him, and in this case, she definitely believes that Spidey can handle him.
Yang: What I want to know is why you didn't show about half my fight with Junior's goons, or at least most of the part that Spider-Woman wasn't there for.
AN: Because we've seen heroes join in on that whole fight plenty of times before, and Spider-Woman had been outside dealing with Torchwick when it started. I wanted to do something a little different, so we had Jessica arrive a little late to the real party. I honestly think it worked out better here, especially when you consider Spider-Woman fought the one that would've given you more trouble at the time.
Yang: Hey, I handled her just fine in canon, thank you.
Spider-Man: I mean no offense, Yang, but you do have a bit of trouble dealing with those kicks.
Yang: Oh, sure, just go ahead and expose me like that.
AN: Moving on. Before anyone complains about how Torchwick got away again, let me just point out that if he hadn't, I would've had to come up with an alternative reason for Ruby to have impressed Ozpin enough for her to be skipped ahead two years, and any encounters she would've had with said criminal wouldn't have been as big of a deal. She'd just be a pesky kid to him at that point, and not the archnemesis that we all know Ruby to have become to Torchwick. Besides, did you really think Neo was going to leave her boss out to dry like that? I don't think so.
Speaking of the criminal element of RWBY, I hope everyone enjoyed the fact that I mentioned Lil' Miss Malachite's gang earlier in the chapter, because of course our two Earth Heroes were going to take some offense to the good name of Spiders being used by lowlifes like that. And yes, Torchwick was part of said gang. It was mentioned in the latest RWBY spin-off novel if you don't believe me. I mean, I haven't read it myself yet, but the information was added to Roman's wiki page, so go look it up there if you don't believe me.
Now, with all those details addressed, let's talk review answers, shall we?
First up, "1800009trumbullps .net", don't worry, I'm planning to do better on updates for my other stories this year. In point of fact, I'm planning to start working on the next chapter for Hearts of Avengers next, followed by the next update to Remnant of the Key, and Keyblade Legion. Assuming of course, that we don't get too close to May 4th, because I am hoping to have the next chapter of Cyber Star Wars finished and posted by then. Along with another update for RWBY Meetings not long after of course. So keep your eyes open for that. As for Avenger Wars Infinity, if you haven't already heard, I put that story up for adoption, and it has been taken up by "JohnnyPrime", so go check out how he's done with the story since then, if you'd like.
Next, "RonaldM40196867", what I can tell you about Spider-Woman, aka Jessica Drew, is pretty basic, assuming your asking about the comic book version, but the one in this story is pretty close to the same thing. She started out as a HYDRA agent after her father used an experiment in combining spider and human DNA to save her life, but eventually, she got pulled out of HYDRA and joined SHIELD. At some point along the way in her path to hero-hood, she met Spider-Man who gave her his blessings to use the name Spider-Woman, and ever since she's been kicking bad guy butt at every turn. That's pretty much all I can say right now without going on a long-winded ramble, and without talking about anything that's already been said in the main story.
"Monkey D. Conan", don't worry, Peter and Jessica will get their Auras unlocked before they get to Beacon, and you'll find out how when we get to that point. As for whether or not they'll have weapons, the answer is yes. It will be a small way of helping to hide their hero personas, because as has already been seen, aside from web-shooters, neither Spider-Hero uses weapons when fighting crime. As for what those weapons will be...well, I gave you small hint on that back in chapter two, and you actually made a pretty close guess as to what Peter's will be with one of your questions, so hurray for you.
This story's version of Miles and Gwen will be one hundred percent from this universe, and both will be Remnant-born heroes. I could've sworn I made that clear either in RWBY Meetings or when Spider-Man and Aelita visited this story's universe over in Enter the Spider-Verse: A Code Avengers Story, but now I'm straight up saying it, so here's to that. Don't worry, Peter and Jessica getting their Aura unlocked will grant them a small boost in their abilities, so you don't have to worry about everyone else getting powered up while they remain the same as always. I mean, it won't be a huge change or anything, but...you know what? I'm not going to say anymore and just let you see for yourself. If I keep going I'll be giving away some big spoilers.
"Dragon Rider 66", as you can see, the Spiders still have a little bit to go before they finally meet Ozpin and Glynda, but don't worry, that meeting is just around the corner at this point. I'm afraid I can't say anything about how Roman's fate goes in this story right now though, but stay tuned, and you'll find out for yourself before too long. Also, thanks for all the praise and compliments you gave for the previous chapter. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
"DeionR9040", first off, Peter will get to upgrade his gadgets with Dust, that was never in doubt. Small spoiler, that's how he's going to get his Electric Webs working in this story. Secondly, just about everyone has paired Peter off with either Ruby or Yang in this kind of crossover, and yet, I've hardly ever seen him paired up with Blake. It's because he's got such a long history of dating cat girls that I wanted to run with a Peter&Blake ship here. Plus, I just really like the idea of the two getting together, especially when you consider just how much they have in common with each other.
"Spiderfan626", glad you enjoyed so much of the previous chapter. And to answer your questions, the Spider-Heroes will meet Winter after they've enrolled at Beacon. It'd be a little strange for that to happen sooner, seeing as Ironwood doesn't even arrive until the start of Vol 2. Also, like the suggestion you made for a possible Chibi sketch, assuming I do decide to make a Chibi version of this story. But, that's still up in the air for the time being.
"7-Eleventh", glad you enjoyed so much of the previous chapter, and I'd say your guesses about the new relationships that started to form in this chapter were spot on. I wasn't actually planning on Spidey calling Glynda "Angry Witch", but I do like the suggestion, so thanks for that. And really? The better question is how can they not compare Ozpin to the Wizard of Oz and Dumbledore? He's just got them vibes.
"Guest 3", of 7/26/2022, like I've said before, don't worry about it. If you feel a need to complain, I totally get it. And yeah, I think I do know the story you were talking about. I think I actually looked into it a little myself, so I know exactly why you'd feel the need to be so down about it. Don't worry though, I'm going to do my best to keep this story/series from falling into the same trappings as that one. Shouldn't be too hard, since Spider-Man and Spider-Woman will be right in the thick of things, unlike with that one you were talking about, but there will still be some moments where they go off on their own adventures too, if for no other reason than to give them a break from all the shenanigans and hijinks that Team RWBY tends to get into. Don't worry though, it won't be anything too bad, I assure you. Just a few little things to help keep in mind that this is a Spider-Man crossover, and just a simple story where a couple of heroes get dropped into the plot of another series' story.
And to everyone else who favorited, followed, and just generally left a review of any kind, thank you all so much for your love and support of this story. I hope you all continue to enjoy it as it continues to unfold.
Torchwick may have gotten away for a second time, but Junior was more than happy to sell out his recent business partner. At least, he was after the Spider-Heroes persuaded him a little bit. Now, they've got another shot at taking down Torchwick, and it's during his next robbery. A robbery which will be thwarted not just by the Spider-Heroes, but by a familiar, scythe-wielding young girl in a red hood as well. A fated moment is about to unfold, leading to many a meeting next time in…Chapter 5: Ruby Rose and the Professors.
Yep, it's about to happen. The Spiders about witness the moment that kickstarted it all for RWBY and meet Ozpin while they're at it. Guess you'll soon get a look at how I have that meeting unfold compared to how others have done it in the next chapter. Until then though...
Once again, be sure to check out my YouTube channel "Studio Fandom" and the DeviantArt page "studiofandom" if you haven't already. Always looking for more followers and subscribers on both.
Oh, and special thanks to Spiderfan626 for all your help in coming up with various ideas for this story. And as always...
Please read and review, and we'll see you next time, fellow true believers!
