Miyuki see's her fathers human form for the first time and sulks when he tries to hide from her. More cute papa InuYasha and Miyuki, which honestly I never get sick of writing about.

InuYasha sighed, he knew this night would come, he'd accepted his fate as a Hanyou, only now he was a father. He had more protection than he had before, a home, a hiding place, a safe space. He didn't have to worry about being hunted down for sport and terrorised by stronger demons. The benefit of mating with a human priestess meant he had wards to shield him from attacks at a time like this. He would still be cursed to revert to human form every month, only his daughter wouldn't be cursed with such a fate, being a quarter demon she never suffered such things. Though it would leave her weakened against stronger demons, meaning she needed to hone her strengths as much as possible to survive. Her human blood was too potent for such a transformation to occur. Kikyo did everything in her power to assure that her husband was safe, she knew he had enemies and she knew many demons would take advantage. She'd heard the horror stories her husband had faced growing up, she wouldn't allow them to continue. Forming a protective barrier around the village, in particular her hut in case any other demons tried their luck while he was vulnerable. Much like how she had gained enemies in her life, she had learned to protect herself and avoid confrontations.

InuYasha didn't stray far from the village and remained in the hut for most of the day, helping around where he could but hiding his vulnerability as much as possible. Just in case anyone was snooping around and looking for the chance to strike. As the sun got lower and lower, his anxiety spiked, he watched the outlines of the village, watched his back and kept to himself as much as possible. He could feel himself growing weaker and weaker. Knowing his human side was emerging. Soon he excused himself to their hut and remained there for the rest of the evening, refusing to see anyone. Kikyo knew how to handle this, she had been warned of what would happen and promised to give her husband privacy, only she or their child were able to see him with his consent. She knew how personal and private this was to him, a part of himself he'd been ashamed of for the longest time. Shamed and bullied for since the moment he was born. She continued her duties, making sure all the villagers were taken care of. Before returning to her hut to accompany her husband, but told not to be disturbed unless it was an emergency. Every other villager was told to stay away, that InuYasha required privacy and under no circumstances was anyone to invade it or put him in harms way. He knew Miyuki would be confused and upset, she was still a child, suddenly being told that she couldn't see her papa despite developing a healthy bond with him. She had never seen her papa as a human, and she didn't know what to expect. He could imagine her being very upset, sulking and arguing against her mother, but it was for a good reason. He'd never let anyone see his weakest form, only his mother had seen it. He didn't want her to think papa was angry at her, or that he was sick, but tonight was an important night. The night were he lost his demon blood and became a full human, where he became like his mother. Growing up if an enemy had seen him in this form, they would have killed him on sight, it was instinct.

"Mama?" Miyuki asked bravely, she had always looked to her mother for guidance, she was the smartest person she knew. Everyone in the village admired and praised her, so surely she knew what was wrong with papa didn't she? She would know if he was hiding something, lying to her or something was wrong. She needed to know she hadn't been a bad girl.

Kikyo smiled warmly, she knew her daughter was anxious as to why her father was hiding in his room and avoiding her, the two were so close her young mind would assume she had done something wrong. Though Miyuki had been told early on about her own heritage, of papa being a half demon, her grandfather being a potent DaiYokai lord, her uncle and her own powers. She had never seen her father in human form before due to being too young and him always hiding away. This would be part of her life, it wasn't something she could hide from or ignore, "Yes my love?" she soothed. While respecting the wishes of her husband, she didn't want her daughter to feel neglected or at fault.

Miyuki shifted, her mothers voice was soothing, gentle and reassuring, her eyes coaxing her to say more. Easing the worry that her papa was angry at her, but she still wondered what was wrong. "Is... is papa sick? Why won't he come out and see us?" she whimpered. Was he worried that she would be upset? Was he worried she would be scared? He seemed fine before but suddenly he was acting so strange, he had hidden away in their hut and had refused to come out ever since. Her mother had erected a barrier around the village, making sure that it remained intact the whole night so nobody could leave or enter the village. She refused to allow anyone near their hut and she distanced herself from the villagers. Her mother would never do such things unless there was danger.

Kikyo smiled, she opened her arms and scooped Miyuki onto her lap, stroking her hair fondly "Do you remember when we told you about being a quarter demon? About how you needed to learn to control your demon blood and spiritual power as you grow up?" she explained. Miyuki was a potent quarter demon, a rarity with both demonic and spiritual power, but she was still weaker than a full demon or a half demon like her father. Which was why it was so important that she needed to become strong. She wished she could protect her daughter from any and all dangers she may face but it was impossible. It was the burden that was forced upon her due to her parents falling in love. Miyuki nodded.

"Papa is a Hanyou, a half breed, your grandpa was a full demon Daiyokai lord, and your grandma was a human princess. Thus they created papa..." Kikyo explained. InuYasha was seen as a disgrace, a monster, something that shouldn't exist, hated by both humans and demons alike. Humans saw him as a monster, unable to control his demon blood and cursed. Demons saw him as tainted, a traitor from birth, disgusting, exiling him from their world. His mother knew of the fate she had placed upon her son and hated herself for it, that her love for InuYasha's father would make her sons life harder. If his father was alive, he would have protected his son from the prejudice he faced.

Miyuki's eyes were full of wonder "So why does papa being half human mean he has to hide? He's very strong" she asked in confusion. She had never met a demon as strong as her papa, at least not until she had met her uncle. Everyone in the village was wary of him and constantly talked about how strong he was. She thought papa was the coolest person ever, he was even cooler when he was wielding his sword Tetsuigha. She couldn't understand why her father would hide away, was he afraid of something or was he being bullied like she was? She didn't understand why her father didn't want anyone to see him.

"One night a year, for some it can happen during the day, for some on a full moon, or even an eclipse, but for papa, he loses his powers on the night of a dark moon" Kikyo soothed. InuYasha told her of some demons he had heard of on his travels, a horse Hanyou named Jinenji who lived with his elderly mother, he owned a herb farm and was a gentle soul. She'd also heard tale of a Bat Hanyou who lived in a coastal village, the daughter of another DaiYokai. She was capable of erecting powerful demonic barriers, but hadn't yet harnessed the full potential of her powers. Jinenji supposedly lost his human blood during the day, rather than during the night, hiding himself away. While Shiori lost her powers during a solar eclipse, when the moon intersected between the sun's orbit around the sun, causing her to lose her powers. Hanyou could never predict or control when they lost their powers, only that they could sense the change.

"Papa lost his powers?" Miyuki gasped, but she had never lost her powers, and mama never lost her powers, so why did papa? Imagining her father without having any powers didn't feel real, it didn't seem possible, but she could tell her mama wasn't lying to her. Couldn't he use his sword to protect himself if he lost his powers?

Kikyo nodded "Hai, right now papa looks very different than usual, he's become a human like your grandma and mama. So he looks like us right now, but he's embarrassed and scared. Because growing up bad people tried to hurt papa while he was like this" Kikyo revealed. It had taken an immense amount of trust on InuYasha's behalf before he allowed Kikyo to see his human form, he's been terrified. But Kikyo had accepted him, though it had been a surprise on her behalf. She knew how important it was to him and promised to protect him whenever he lost his powers. After the birth of their daughter, his fear of losing his powers became even stronger, aware that he couldn't protect his mate, but also Miyuki. He was embarrassed by his weakness, relying on Kikyo to protect him, as well as his daughter. He was ashamed to admit that he couldn't rely on his strength to watch over them.

Miyuki gasped, before her expression became angry and she growled lightly "They sound mean, those bullies picked on papa! That's not right" she huffed. Kikyo saw the flicker of demonic energy in her daughter's eyes, the amber gleam that glowed from them, her demon blood becoming prominent. Baring her fangs, anger surging through her small body like a storm. Miyuki had a compassionate heart, mild mannered with everyone she met, unless it came to matters of people she loved or herself being bullied.

Kikyo smiled, laughing fondly "Indeed, but papa knows he is safe with us. Mama has forged a barrier around the village to keep any enemies out. But until sunrise, papa needs privacy and wants to remain hidden". She stroked her daughters's hair, easing her anger and comforting her back to a calmer state, allowing her demon blood to settle. InuYasha knew she nor Miyuki would let any harm befall him. Many of the villagers had come to respect him and see him as a member of the village, they too would protect InuYasha. InuYasha had made a home and a life in the village, he was one of them. She had promised to spend her life with him and he with her, protecting him came with that. He wouldn't show his face until morning, when he became a demon again.

Miyuki nodded, she didn't like the thought of her papa having to avoid her and feeling scared to show his face. She knew she had to respect his feelings, even if she wasn't happy about the decision. But she loved him very much and she didn't want bad people to hurt him, she was angry that someone else had and now he didn't want to see people, including her. She was curious of what he looked like, how he was different than how she remembered.

Kikyo finished prepping a meal for her family, InuYasha needed to keep his strength up as did she, he needed to eat something and it would ease his nerves. She knew in the past, InuYasha would hide himself away and that meant without hunting or seeking food. Isolating himself until morning and then hunting down food when his demon blood returned. But within the barrier, he didn't have to worry about that, he would be fed, hidden and cared for. They had to be prepared for anything, villagers would still need tending to if she left the hut. Just because InuYasha had become human, didn't mean her duties came to a halt, but only for emergencies. "Miyuki, will you bring papa his dinner?" she asked, Miyuki wanted desperately to bond with her papa and keep him company. Distracting her by allowing her to continue normal routines while respecting his privacy would make her happy. It was the only offer she could make and didn't want her daughter to feel left out. He was the strongest tie to her demon heritage, teaching her how to navigate the world. Now that the same mentor was hiding away, it would arise some conflict in her heart. Keeping normalcy during this difficult time was priority, so it was seen as another routine rather than something worrying.

Miyuki nodded "Haaaai" she called, getting to her feet and hurrying to help her mother. The mention of her father causing her mood to improve.

Kikyo prepared a tray of hearty stew of meat, vegetables and potatoes. The smell making Miyuki's stomach growl, alongside some bread, fish and other sides. Some tea placed in a cup for her father. Seeing Miyuki so happy warmed her heart, always eager to help and sharing the love she felt for others. She had no idea but InuYasha overhearing Miyuki meant the world to him, no matter how much hatred he faced from others, his daughter would always love him. "Now, don't drop it" she warned. InuYasha couldn't hunt for more ingredients and she didn't have enough ingredients to make more.

Miyuki nodded, she clasped the tray carefully in her hands, approaching the bamboo door of her fathers room. She bit her lip and felt her legs shaking, anxiety spiked in her stomach as she approached the door. She felt like she was approaching a forbidden place, somewhere she wasn't allowed, would he be angry? Would he turn her away, would he be able to sense her? She didn't know how different her papa would be because he was human, she carefully walked towards the door, her small heart hammering in her chest. She licked her lips bravely "P... Papa?" she called. She wanted to see him, she wanted to jump into his arms and nuzzle against his chest like she always did. She loved when he let her play with his ears, always careful not to pull.

She heard a shift, before her father spoke up, his voice gentle and understanding, sensing her distress "It's ok Miyuki, papa is ok..." he soothed. He'd overheard them talking, Miyuki being the one to bring him dinner.

Miyuki felt comforted at the tone of her papa's voice, he wasn't angry at her, he sounded scared "Mama... she told me to bring you dinner" she stammered. She wondered if he was scared of her? She wondered if he was scared of what she would think, or if he thought bad people would be coming. She tried to understand what her father would be thinking about.

She heard her father laugh fondly, hearing his voice made her so happy, he'd been hiding from them for so long. "Ok, leave it at the door for papa, go and eat with mama" he soothed. Miyuki felt a sense of sadness, she wanted to eat with her papa like she always did, like a family. She'd hoped he would say he would join them, or that he would be out soon, but instead he turned her away. She tried not to cry, she knew she couldn't cry, but she was lonely and she hated not being near her papa. He was so close to her, yet right now he felt like he was far away, putting up walls between them. He told her not to be ashamed of herself, to be proud of herself, so why was her papa hiding from her? It didn't make any sense to her, she wanted to say it was stupid but she didn't want to make him angry. She was human too, she was part demon like him, but she had learned to make friends.

Kikyo softened, seeing her daughter so upset she felt bad for her, not being able to see her papa, to look at him had to break her heart. She was standing by the door to his room, like a puppy searching for comfort, waiting for him to let her in. If she had ears like her father they would be drooping right now. Desperately reaching out to him, seeking her father, seeking his attention, yet unable to gain it. "Miyuki, papa isn't angry at you, he wants to see you" she soothed. Right now, intentionally separating himself from his wife and child was the hardest thing he was doing. The two people he loved and cherished the most and he couldn't show them something so personal. Comforting her daughter through any conflicting feelings and worry that her papa didn't love her.

"I know... but... I love papa, he knows I do. But... why does he have to hide being human from me? Aren't I part demon? And papa told me to never be ashamed of myself" she whimpered. The first thing her parents did when she was old enough to understand was tell her about her heritage, about her family. So she never felt different or shame for who she was. But right now he was ashamed, he was hiding, he hated his human side. He was hiding away from the village, from mama, from her. If her demon side wasn't something to be ashamed of, why was his human side? Because it was weak, because he was ugly? Or because someone told him when he was little that he was unloveable.

Kikyo felt a stab of pain in her chest, the very thing they had nurtured Miyuki with, to love herself and accept herself. She would face hatred for being part demon, for being mostly human. Enemies of her father, her uncle and her grandfather would all seek vengeance against her. She could blend in among humans, but would have demon traits visibly that people would notice. Her father was scared to show her his human face, but because when he was Miyuki's age, people had isolated him and bullied him.

She heard InuYasha shift from within his room, hesitating, her words had gotten to him and his human heart was bursting with emotions. InuYasha was able to convey his emotions easier as a human, speaking the words that lay dormant in his heart. "Kikyo..." he trailed off.

"Hai" she responded softly, waiting for his response, whatever he decided she would help him as best she could.

"Do you have any duties? Do the villagers need you for anything at all?" he questioned, he didn't want to selfishly deny her of doing her job. Even when he was at his weakest the village would still need her help, the sick, the injured and any women who may be pregnant. She was both a mother and a priestess, twice the duties she had before and yet she handled them brilliantly.

"I set a barrier around the entire village, nobody can get in or out of the village until I lower it at sunrise. Everyone has enough food and supplies. Unless someone is frail and required my care. Miyuki and I will stay with you until morning" she reassured him. None of the villagers would come to harm and they knew not to stray away from the village, none could enter the barrier and none could leave. They could rest easy knowing no demons would be able to attack them tonight. Their daily life wouldn't return to normal until InuYasha had returned to his demon form. She belonged with her husband, the idea of leaving him alone when he was at his most vulnerable and something happening to him. Her attention being deviated from him for even a second. She feared the worst may happen and she wouldn't be able to forgive herself, so she remained by his side to guard him.

InuYasha swallowed, Kikyo's earnest devotion to him was soothing, he'd never known such loyalty before in his life. He had never predicted that as he grew older he would be protected by a priestess of all people during his human night. Many Hanyou sought such sanctuary in their lives and he was lucky enough to have found it. Kikyo knew he was a half demon, she had accepted him for who he was, they were married an entire year. She had seen his human form many times before but accepted when he wanted privacy, though she teased him about how he became shyer and yet more honest as a human. Admittedly he had made her blush when he commented on her scent as a human, or given her compliments. Somehow he became more romantic. Until she was old enough, until he was comfortable, InuYasha wouldn't reveal it to anyone, trusting the wrong person could get him killed. But his daughter was someone he couldn't ignore, someone born of his love for Kikyo, someone he would protect with his life. The first known born quarter demon, born of a Hanyou DaiYokai and a human priestess, she was supposed to be a priestess someday, the lineage of the Dog Daiyokai clan. Sesshoumaru may have his reservations towards his niece, but whether he liked it or not she was family. He couldn't hide this from her forever, he would have to bite the bullet and take his chances. "Miyuki, leave my tray there and papa will take it. Bring your meal with mama and come and sit with me..."

Miyuki perked up, she could sit with papa? They could still eat together? She was so excited she wanted to scream.

"But... you can't tell anyone about papa. I look different from what you are used to, right now papa is very weak and bad people might hurt him. So you have to keep this a secret between papa, mama and yourself" he warned. He knew Miyuki was of an age where she was learning, to say something without thinking or make mistakes. It was expected, but this was something she couldn't make a mistake with. If she told anyone it would cost him his life and it would put her in danger too. She needed to make this promise and keep it, shielding this information with her life. She would understand this as she got older.

Miyuki felt a shiver of fear run down her back, she had to promise not to tell anyone about this, like a secret? This was something she needed to keep to herself. Seeing papa meant she couldn't tell anyone, not even her uncle. "Is... is this like how bad people tried to hurt me because they are your enemies? Because... because I'm part demon?" she mumbled. She remembered that scary lady Tsubaki who tried to hunt her down because she hated mama, would other people like that who hated papa come after her too? If putting her papa in danger was the risk of seeing him, she didn't want to do it. She wouldn't tell anyone, because she had made a promise.

"Yes, just like what papa told you" InuYasha agreed, Miyuki had been targeted before, due to enemies learning about her birth. Right now he was a target for anyone who hated Hanyou, seeking to rid him from this world. One day when she was older, Miyuki would be protecting him, which he had to admit sounded rather amusing. His father had amassed many enemies during his life that resented himself and Sesshoumaru, but so had he for being a Hanyou or merely meeting the wrong person. Sadly those enemies would target Miyuki when she was older.

Miyuki shifted, no matter what anyone did, no matter how mean or scary she wouldn't tell them anything. She wouldn't do anything to put her papa in danger, she wouldn't tell anyone his secret. "Then... I promise papa, I won't tell anyone, pinky swear" she affirmed.

"Good girl" Inuyasha and Kikyo replied in unison, she had learned well.

Miyuki shakily entered the bamboo curtain, entering her fathers room, she could smell him, but his scent had changed, he didn't smell the same as usual but she knew it was felt like a cave; dark, ominous, forbidding. She wondered why her father wanted the room so dark, he wouldn't be able to see anyone enter due to his human vision, but he insisted. Perhaps he felt safer in the shadows. She gripped her tray tightly as her mother walked closely behind her, making sure she didn't fall or stumble. Her demon blood made it easier to see in the dark so she didn't fall, but her sight wasn't as strong as her fathers. Kikyo placed her tray down to which she copied, sitting down carefully and waiting for further instructions. Kikyo then gathered a match and lit a small oil lamp, placing it on the floor, placing the room in a low light, making sure she couldn't knock it and cause a fire. Miyuki gasped, she couldn't believe what she was seeing, she wondered if she was dreaming. The shape of her father appeared, illuminating his appearance, but he had indeed changed. His fuzzy ears had gone, his silvery white hair replaced with pure black hair, similar to that of her mother and herself, his golden amber eyes had changed to intense brown like her mother. His tanned skin had changed to peachy and pale like a human, his eyes were less sharp, his fangs were gone, his claws had gone. But she knew it was papa. Was this why he hid from her? Because he thought she wouldn't be able to recognise him? That she may mistake him for a stranger or an intruder?

InuYasha watched his daughter, her intense gaze balanced between conflict, curiosity and shyness, adorned in her red kimono decorated with flowers, she looked like a miniature him. Her eyes gazed at him, processing what she saw before her, focusing on finding her words and processing her feelings. She'd been a good girl all day, she listened to her mother and respected his wishes, keeping her distance. Now that she was stood before him, observing his human form, he wondered why he ever kept her at a distance. His heart ached with love for her, even more than as a demon. Her tiger stone like eyes, her soft black hair that fell to her elbows, her small fangs. "P... Papa" she stammered.

"Hai" he affirmed

Miyuki hummed, he smelled the same, his voice sounded the same, but he looked so different. She approached him shakily, she felt like she was meeting her papa all over again, taking one of his fingers with her hands, yes they were still his hands, to which he gently squeezed her finger. He was real, she could feel him, her senses wouldn't lie to her "You smell different" she stated. Kikyo smiled, stifling a laugh under her breath as she watched her daughter approach her husband with such innocence. Confirming her suspicions, piecing things together. Her bluntness was rather adorable, as if she was getting back at her father for ignoring her. InuYasha bit his lip, stifling a laugh, her surprise bluntness much like himself caught him off guard. She lacked the filter that people harboured as they grew older, seeing the world as it was. Miyuki looked up, catching his eye, crawling onto his lap to reach out and touch his face, trying to reach closer to him. His skin was paler, his complexion had changed from tan to a paler hue. "Your hair is still soft, but your ears are gone" she pouted, she loved her papa's ears.

"Humans don't have dog ears" he smiled, the same keen hearing he had as a demon, it had dulled to human senses. He'd been teased about his ears his whole life, but his daughter adored them. But so far their newfound introductions as a human were going better than he expected them to. She patted his cheeks, squeezing them lightly, before hesitantly opening his mouth. Worried that she may be going to far, that he wouldn't be comfortable. InuYasha allowed her to observe his teeth, her small gasp as she realised his fangs were gone, while hers remained. His teeth weren't as sharp as before, which surprised her. But she knew it was still him.

"Papa is... still papa" she mumbled, he was still her papa, he was still her daddy.

"Papa is still papa" he affirmed fondly, he was still her father, he had still helped create her and he would be there to raise her and protect her. He would be with her until the day he died. Knowing his daughter recognised him, still loved him and accepted him meant the world to him. He'd always feared that if and when he ever had children, how being a Hanyou would affect their lives. But the love Miyuki showed for him eased all his worries, knowing she admired and loved him in both forms. Miyuki's eyes welled up with tears, becoming glassy, to which InuYasha felt a pang of anxiety, was she mad? Disappointed? hurt? He was freaking out. He'd never had this reaction from anyone before, let alone his first child. He wasn't prepared for this sort of reaction from her at all.

Sniffling under her breath, she finally spoke "If papa is still papa then why did you hide?! You are my papa! I love papa!" she sobbed, it didn't make sense to her, he was being mean. He made sure the other children didn't bully her and allowed her to play ball with them, watching from afar. Scaring them if they said something mean to her, when they accused her of cheating because she was part demon. Making sure she was always safe and happy. So why was he being childish and hiding from her when he was in human form! He wasn't being fair and he was being childish. She pouted sulkily, gripping her hands into small balled fists as she waited for a response, mirroring InuYasha when he sulked. Waiting for her father to give an explanation.

InuYasha irked, unable to form words, yes his daughter was right, it wasn't fair that he had to hide from her, but he had his reasons. He hadn't known the happy childhood his daughter had. He was prepared to make sure she had everything she needed in life as to keep her safe. He couldn't help but have protection for when matters like this occured. But seeing her all sulky and crying he couldn't help himself, he couldn't think of an argument 'I.. um.. well..." he never thought his own child would leave him speechless, confronting him so bluntly. Kikyo sat in the back, cupping her mouth to stifle laughter while their daughter sulked about her father ignoring her for stupid reasons. Though she understood why he would wish to hide, in his daughters eyes it made no sense. She knew Miyuki would hold this against her father until she was old enough to understand. It was the most adorable thing she had ever seen, she would remember this moment forever.

Miyuki sat in her fathers lap happily as she ate her dinner, being careful not to spill any, smiling to herself. She didn't want to burn him and she didn't want to make a mess either. InuYasha ate his dinner in peace while Miyuki sat in his lap, but he was still stunned that Miyuki had won an argument. She usually behaved so much like her mother that whens he showed similarities to his personality he was caught off guard. Kikyo sat beside him enjoying her meal and enjoying the sight before her, a sweet bonding moment between father and daughter. "Damn, she's only a two years old and she's already got so much attitude" he huffed, he wondered if she would act like this as she got older. Showing his same determination, his same poor social skills and abilities in battle. The only thing he wanted was that she didn't adapt any bad habits from him.

"Like father like daughter as they say" she smiled, she was a daddy's girl through and through, though she loved both her parents. Miyuki was a fast learner and she knew when people were hiding things from her. She would be able to tell when something was wrong, even if they tried to hide it.

InuYasha pouted, indeed she had inherited his temper, though her parents were better at handling it, he didn't doubt as she got older it would become worse. Her emotions linked to her powers, both spiritual and demonic, so which one would appear was a guess. Right now her demon blood was stronger, but as she got older they would become a match. "I wonder what Sesshoumaru would think of this" he chuckled, Sesshoumaru hated being embarrassed and Miyuki lacked a filter given she was a toddler. He didn't doubt rumours would keep spreading about Uncle Sesshoumaru. He wondered what his reputation would be like lately. After the passing of their father, he, Sesshoumaru and his mother in law were the only living Inu-DaiYokai. But Miyuki carried on their progeny, and if Sesshoumaru ever had children, more would come into the world.

"A troublemaking little brother and a mischievous niece, he's got his hands full" Kikyo smiled, Sesshoumaru was a very cold presenting person, a great tactician and leader. InuYasha had a short temper and a tendency to attract attention, much to his brothers annoyance. Miyuki was full of life, curiosity and wisdom, she was always learning and asking questions, meaning someone had to keep an eye on her. InuYasha sighed heavily, ruffling Miyuki's head affectionately, this night was going better than he expected. His anxiety had lessened, his fear had settled and he was with the people he could trust the most. "She's very much like us both, she harbours a profuse love for us. For her mama, her papa and her auntie. The thought of you hiding from her, being ashamed. She was probably hurt by that. She's too young to understand it was to protect yourself" Kikyo reassured him.

InuYasha softened, he'd lost his mother at a young age, when he still needed maternal love and nurturing. His brother abandoned and neglected him, leaving him to raise himself. The world had been against him from the start, he never dreamed he could be this happy. "Yeah, I just... it's habitual Y'know. All I ever knew what to do was hide growing up, I would of died if not" he sighed.

"And your brother bullying and shaming you for it" Kikyo reminded him coldly, though he was family through marriage on her behalf and blood for InuYasha and Miyuki. She would never fully trust Sesshoumaru until he proved himself otherwise. His treatment of InuYasha was too cruel, he was the only living family he had and yet he treated him so badly. Though she appreciated him watching over Miyuki, she wasn't fully convinced that he would change.

InuYasha winced, he had never known his birth father, not like Sesshoumaru had. He had no paternal role to compare his own parenting to "I just... I wanted her to look at me as a cool dad, someone to look up to. Instead of seeing me so weak and helpless" he muttered. He wanted to be a good father, he wanted to be a good role model, he wanted to be there for Miyuki the way his family never was. He wanted to guide her through the world the way nobody had for him, creating a blade to protect her the way his father left the Tetsuigha for him.

Kikyo smiled fondly, caressing his cheek affectionately "Miyuki looks at you as her moon, I don't think you could ever be weak in her eyes" she chuckled. She constantly clung to him, following him like his shadow. He was a hero in her eyes and she got angry at the thought of anyone harming him. She would never see him as anything short of amazing.

Kaede stood in the moonlight, holding her bow and arrow tightly as she stood in the training hall of the temple. She was restless, something in her intuition told her that her family was in trouble. Being away from the village, training her spiritual power meant she couldn't be of help to her sister. She wasn't fully fledged yet and there was still so much she had to learn about herself. InuYasha would be losing his demon power tonight, helpless, vulnerable and utterly reliant on Kikyo for protection. She could imagine the anxiety he would be experiencing, stressed out of his mind. Not even Miyuki would be strong enough to protect them from harm, she was still too young and her powers unbalanced, soon enough her demon blood would become stronger and she would need a seal placing upon her. Kikyo would have placed a barrier around the village to protect them, warding off any demons who tried to enter the village and sensed InuYasha's weakened state, seeking opportunity. Leaving her the sole guardian of the village for the night. She wanted to be there, to protect them, to help them, but she wasn't strong enough yet, she was still a trainee. She wasn't willing to risk the safety of her family, by leaving before her training was complete.

"Kaede are you quite alright? You seem distracted?" the head monk asked curiously, she had been dutifully developing her powers and protecting the temple. But she something seemed to be bothering her. Keeping her from her studies and weighed heavily on her mind, but she wouldn't say what.

Kaede blinked, snapping back to reality, bowing her head apologetically "Gomen, I'm worried about my family, my brother in law... my village" she muttered. Her sister had more responsibility on her shoulders, being a mother, wife and protector. The strain she was under had to become exhausting, yet she handed it so well, but she felt guilty that she couldn't aid her.

"Ah yes, your brother in law, he's a Hanyou is he not?" he reflected, there were many demons in the world, some were wicked and some were peaceful. Some possessed humans, some kidnapped them, others merely harassed and tormented. Though humans and demons had been enemies for centuries, there were the rare few demons that had curiosity towards humans and fell in love. Kaede's brother in law was a Hanyou who chose to live among humans and mated with one, where he found belonging.

Kaede nodded, she'd become more comfortable about speaking of her personal life, at first worried she would be judged for being an in-law to a Hanyou. "Hai" she mumbled, she missed her big sister, she missed InuYasha and she missed her niece. She was growing up so fast and she felt like she was missing out on her life. She just hoped Miyuki didn't hate her for the choice she made.

The monk smiled warmly "I'm sure your sister has everything under control, while your concern is understandable. She is a potent priestess. I'm sure your family is well" he soothed. Kikyo was a skilled priestess, the strongest of her generation, her spiritual power was nearly the same league as the late priestess Midoriko. She was beloved by many and respected immensely. He had no doubt she would keep her village safe and protect her family. He understood and empathised with Kaede's worry being so far away from home, but she would be able to return once her training was over. Kikyo and her family were welcome to visit her.

Kaede softened, he was so patient with her, she felt guilty for any trouble she caused "Arigato, I should be more focused" she apologised

He raised his hand reassuringly "I find pushing yourself with an unbalanced mind affects your capabilities. Come, join me for some tea and we can sit and talk. Then if you feel more at ease you may return to training" he smiled. She wouldn't achieve her potential if she ignored what troubled her, a true priestess balanced body and mind, controlling emotions and finding peace. If something was troubling her he would happily listen and offer advice.

Kaede smiled "Arigato" she accepted

Sesshoumaru sniffed the night air, he could sense it, his brothers demonic aura had been sealed away, his human side was no longer dormant. The night where his brother lost his pure demon blood and became a human, just like his disgraced mother. Meaning his sister in law and niece were his only hope of protection, how embarrassing. His little brother relying on others to protect him, relying on someone else as his shield, Miyuki's demonic power was still weak but developing and Kikyo was the strongest priestess in the domain. But even that wouldn't be enough. "Milord?" Jaken asked curiously, his master had been deep in reflective thought for some time, perhaps thinking of his brother. His encounters with them thus far had been utterly shameful.

"Come Jaken" he muttered, he hoped his annoying little brother appreciated that he was wasting his time by babysitting him as well as his niece, making sure they didn't get into trouble. As the head of the family, it was his duty to keep order and keep the balance, making sure they still held a reputation. There were only 4 known Inu-DaiYokai left, himself, his mother, InuYasha and now his niece. Their bloodline was weak and he needed more progeny. But tainting the bloodline wasn't what he hoped to achieve.

"Milord?" Jaken babbled, wondering what had upset his master so.

"Ask no questions, I tire of this and though I have more pressing matters this cannot be ignored" Sesshoumaru sighed, he didn't need Jake's opinion, nor him pestering him of his decisions. He need merely follow and obey, as was expected of him. He would rather assure that his brother remained out of trouble, thus once his demon blood returned he could continue his life. Meaning Sessoumaru could return to his in peace.

"Aye Milord" Jaken babbled

Miyuki curled up in her fathers arms happily, resting her head against his chest as she got used to the scent of him as a human, he stroked her hair happily and admired his daughter. She hadn't budged all evening and was adamant to remain by her fathers side. "I've never seen her so content, she's like a small puppy" Kikyo chuckled, seeking out his warmth and affection, clinging to him. Perhaps in her own way she wanted to comfort her father and protect him. Though she was smaller and younger, right now she was stronger than her father.

"She reminds me of myself, when I was a pup I would curl up on my mums lap like this, before she died. She would play with my ears" InuYasha laughed. His mother was someone he loved more than anything, the woman who gave him life and the first person to accept his Hanyou nature. Losing her had broken his heart and he never fully recovered. Memories of when he was small, how she would hold him in her arms, easing whatever worries plagued him. He wished she could have met her first granddaughter, to meet her daughter in law and see how happy he had become. That after years of loneliness, bigotry, disrespect. He had found someone who truly loved him, his first love and mate.

Kikyo smiled "I was worried myself, though I've been able to adapt to your human form since our first meeting. Even I worry that I'm pushing you beyond your comforts" she confessed. She had sensed he was a half demon from the moment they met, she had never seen his human form. Though curious about it, she never forced him to reveal it to her. Respecting his privacy and allowing him to return to her side when he was comfortable. After he finally showed her his human side, she had been surprised. But she was happy he showed her such a personal thing. They had talked all night, sharing words and expressing secrets, Kikyo had then confessed her love to InuYasha for a second time, as had he. After that he knew, she was the only woman he would ever want. Kikyo did whatever she could to protect InuYasha, but worried she wasn't doing enough, that her selfish desire to be by his side may make him uncomfortable.

InuYasha softened, reaching out to caress her cheek fondly "Hey, you accepted me for who I am, you're the first woman, no person, I've ever felt this way about. You're pushing yourself just to keep a barrier up while watching over us both" he soothed. They had been drawn to one another from the moment they met, unable to stay away from one another. InuYasha watching her from afar, fascinated with her. Kikyo had accepted he was a half demon, as she was a priestess bound to never be her true self out of duty. InuYasha was able to accept his human side, quit battles and feeling like he had to live as a loner. He chose to live a peaceful life with her and protect his found family, finding peace with her. Kikyo had been able to accept her womanhood, embracing her love for InuYasha, her identity as a woman, a mother and more. Using her power and wish to destroy the jewel, preventing anyone from ever being tempted again.

Kikyo blushed, though she still had her doubts and insecurities as anyone did, InuYasha always knew what to say to ease her spirit's. Suddenly, she sensed a familiar demonic aura, what was he doing here? He had avoided the village for the longest time, only dropping by when it suited him, but why now of all nights? When InuYasha was a human? Did he mean to harm InuYasha while he was weakened? Test him? Was he guarding the village? For what reason was he here? She knew Sesshoumaru harboured hatred and hostility towards his brother, but surely he wouldn't attempt to come here for his life?

InuYasha sensed her worry, something had happened, the hairs on the back of her head were stood up, if she was an animal, she would have her ears pinned back and emitting a warning growl "Kikyo?" he pressed. What was happening? What could she sense? Was the village under attack despite the barrier?

Miyuki twitched, she knew that smell, she'd sensed it before "Ouji-san" she mumbled. Had he come here to visit papa?

InuYasha growled, what was he doing here? What with his demon blood being gone, his instincts were dulled and he was at his brothers mercy. No doubt he'd come to steal Tetsuigha or teach him a lesson. He knew InuYasha couldn't match him in a fight, he had full advantage. Sesshoumaru knew about his human nights, what faze of the moon it was and how vulnerable he was. Growing up he could have protected him, shielded him and showed him kindness, but no, InuYasha was trapped in his human form fighting for his life. His brother would rather he die than help him. What good reason could he be here for? Kikyo stiffened, she couldn't abandon InuYasha and she couldn't abandon her daughter, but she needed to know for what reason he had come to this place. Sesshoumaru treated her with respect due to them being in-laws but never hid his disregard for their marriage or that they were family. He believed InuYasha to be weak, he believed him to be a waste of space, and that InuYasha's family was even more so. Why he would come here? Kikyo stiffened, within the barrier InuYasha would be fine, nobody could enter this place unless she wished them to, no demon could penetrate it. Sesshoumaru couldn't enter but he could threaten them. "Miyuki, stay here with papa, I have to go and greet your uncle" she warned.

Sesshoumaru stood outside the barrier, gazing at the village curiously, a barrier of this strength and size would require immense power, for Kikyo to be able to summon one like this at her age, it showed the true extent of her power. Her power was on parr with demonic barriers, able to summon such power as to protect her domain and the people within it. Imagining his niece inheriting such power as she got older, she would be a force to be reckoned with indeed. She was using this power to protect his brother, to assure his human form came to no harm.

"Milord, why are we at the decrepit village in which your half breed brother resides?" Jaken asked

Sesshoumaru didn't respond, he could sense his brother within the walls, wondering just where he was hiding. Without his demon power he wouldn't be able to sense him coming, let alone his presence. But he could sense his sister in law approaching, his eyes roaming the darkness for her. Soon, he saw her appear, wielding her arrow in hand, her expression hardened and unwavering, watching him. "Congratulations Kikyo, after giving birth one would have assumed your powers to have weakened. Instead they have blossomed, more potent. You have my compliments" Sesshoumaru responded. Kikyo had instead grown stronger, continued her training, channeled her powers via meditation and focused her emotions into strengthening herself. She was the first known priestess to have married, let alone birth a quarter demon child. Many chose to live their lives in solitude, unmarrying and dying young.

Kikyo glared, Sesshoumaru wouldn't come here for no reason, she was disinterested in idle chatter and wished to know his true motives. "You sensed it didn't you, InuYasha's weakened demon blood. You know it's his human night, why else would you come here? Surely you wouldn't attempt to kill him and your niece?" she questioned coldly. Sesshoumaru was the lord of the western lands, a DaiYokai, he inherited his fathers title upon his death. Instead of ruling his domain and living in his castle, he chose to wander and seek out true power. Forever intent on starting an argument with his brother instead of forming an alliance with him, that hatred would pass onto his niece. For a brief moment she had believed that perhaps he had developed empathy for his brother and niece.

Sesshoumaru peered at her, though she had keen instincts, her beliefs were false and he sought no quarrel. Though InuYasha would be in his debt after such a gesture. "What reason would I have to commit such an act, despite my intense dislike of my brother he is still my blood, as is my niece. I am merely aware that even a barrier such as yours isn't enough to ward off demons" he explained. Their bloodline had to continue, he merely wished InuYasha chose to be respectful instead of living the nomadic life he had. He never acted proper, educated, engaged in politics or did his research. Instead he was mouthy, troublemaking, stubborn and often ran headfirst into danger. Kikyo had so far expertly protected her husband, summoning all of her strength and willpower. But if a demon strong enough to do damage would come along, she couldn't protect InuYasha.

Kikyo shifted, her anger lessened but her suspicion still remained, what was he up to? "So, you came here to... protect us? Guard us?" she asked. This wasn't what she expected at all.

Sesshoumaru sighed, he didn't like this anymore than she did, but he had made his choice "Indeed, though I have more pressing responsibilities, you have gained more enemies as of late. My presence here would ward off any weaklings who attempt to enter" he confessed. After the dark priestess made an attempt on Miyuki's life, they had to remain cautious, so far she had avoided such things since. His second sister in law was taking her training to become a priestess. Many changes were happening in their lives. He was still forming for allies for political reasons, people who he could use, people who would benefit him. His father had formed many during his life, that out of honour would follow him, they merely needed persuading.

Kikyo smirked, she knew Sesshoumaru hated being reminded that he had family now. Miyuki adored him though she doubted the sentiment would be returned. "You know, your niece has become stronger. Shortly after I sensed your demonic aura, Miyuki sensed you had come" she chuckled. Miyuki could always recognise his aura and scent, she always knew when he was here and always wanted to see him. As she got older she may even seek him out. She would make a fine priestess or bounty hunter, she had instincts, as she got older they would become master level.

Sesshoumaru frowned, he hoped she hadn't lost control yet, at her age her powers would be unstable. The last thing he wanted was her having a demonic tantrum and her parents unable to control her. "It seems her demon blood is developing faster than expected" he hummed, that seal she suggested may become an option in the near future. Her demonic traits would only become more prominent, harbouring a unique psychic link from her mother, allowing her to connect with not only her parents minds but his. Though her senses would be stronger than the average human, nowhere as keen as his own. He wondered how well she would wield the blade her parents were forging for her.

Kikyo chuckled, every day she acted more and more like InuYasha, his stubborn nature. But she held the same compassion as both of them. She was smart beyond her years and curious of the world. Though she most commonly compared to her father, many times had people mentioned how many traits she shared with Kikyo, aside from appearance. "Like father like daughter, it seems she's more like you both than you realise". Sesshoumaru would unknowingly influence her as she grew up, he couldn't avoid being part of her life and Miyuki would seek him out. It was a role he would need to accept someday.

"Or thanks to you, her spiritual essence may have allowed her to sense me, her scent merely allowed her to confirm my identity" Sesshoumaru reminded her. Miyuki's spiritual awareness would also allow her to sense demonic aura, differentiating between each demon she met. Able to tell one from the other, if she ever crossed paths with the same demon she would be able to sense it. Though her demonic aura was indeed strong, denying the potency of the spiritual abilities she had inherited wasn't fair on Kikyo. She had two equally powerful parents. Even he had some respect for Kikyo.

"So, you've taken it upon yourself to become a night watchman while your brother is in human form, I assume you'll make yourself scarce once the son comes up" Kikyo stated. While she was grateful she assumed he wouldn't want to be disturbed for the rest of the night, choosing to enjoy being alone with this thoughts. He may become bored as he would be waiting here all night. Being seen at a place like this would arise suspicion. If one of the villagers sensed him again they would ask questions she would rather not want to answer. Though she was grateful to him, she doubted he would want a reward, not that they could offer one to him.

"I have far more pressing matters to attend to, but I was gracious enough to consider offering my protection" he confirmed

Kikyo lowered her arrow, sighing heavily, she didn't wish to argue with him and so long as he avoided InuYasha she was happy. They didn't need to speak for the rest of the night and she would be able to sense when he made himself scarce. "Miyuki will be pleased of your visit, if your imp companion isn't against it. I'll have some food sent to you". Full demon or not he would still need to eat, though his stamina would be far higher than that of a human or Hanyou. Though she wondered if his palate would accept such low quality food. She turned and headed back to the hut, wondering what he was doing here, but at least he wasn't a threat. She could at least laugh this off as a strange memory once this was all over.

Kikyo entered the hut, sighing heavily, this was going to be a long night indeed, she hadn't expected him of all people to visit them. He loved to show up without warning, stressing them all out. Never announcing the reason for his visit and leaving them all guessing, his words were always alluring to something but never revealing his true intentions. At least he didn't plan on causing them trouble, she didn't want Sesshoumaru and InuYasha getting into a fight.

Miyuki appeared from her fathers room, hurrying up to her eagerly "Mama! Mama what did Ouji-chan want?" she pestered. Had he brought presents, was he going to join them for dinner? Had he come to play? Surely he had his reasons. He never spoke much, he was always quiet and grumpy but he was never mean to her. His goblin companion was always moody and it made her laugh. Didn't he have any friends? Wasn't he married anyone like mama and papa? It didn't make any sense to her.

Kikyo smiled, kneeling to her daughters level "Your uncle has come to guard the village, he was worried about papa getting into trouble" she reassured her. Sesshoumaru knew his brother would be targeted and as much as he denied it, after Tsubaki had attacked Miyuku he would be worried. She wondered if he was starting to go soft or just obediently loyal. Sesshoumaru was bound by honour to his family, being a lord, he was responsible for them. She would show her thanks but Sesshoumaru's change in nature was rather curious, as to why he was visiting so often these days.

InuYasha snorted, he'd never cared when he was fighting for his life as a child and that hadn't changed now. Whatever motives he had were likely self serving and he had no interest in showing concern. Sesshoumaru constantly reminded him of all the trouble he caused, but how he was useful. Whenever he was in trouble as a child, he wouldn't save him unless InuYasha screamed and begged for help. He'd never once shown any love or affection to him once. "Hah, that narcissistic loner probably just wants to put me in my place and remind me how weak I am" he huffed. Any chance Sesshoumaru could remind him of what a weakling he was, he took it

"Still, his demonic presence will ward off any enemies, for that I am grateful. But his motives are unclear" she hummed, being a DaiYokai and a lord, other demons would recognise his power and ranking as a demon. To mess with Sesshoumaru would be a foolish choice indeed, they would breathe their last. Any scavenger's would turn their tails and run at the sight of him, let alone his scent.

"Can I bring Ouji-chan dinner" Miyuki asked eagerly, he had to be hungry travelling all this way to see them, then to watch guard over their home. He needed to eat something or he would get grumpy or make himself sick. Maybe he would be nicer about it if she came with the food instead.

Kikyo hummed, Miyuki was still of the naive age where she knew of people's cruelty, but they tried to shield it from her as much as possible. She'd never heard the villagers speaking about her as a baby, but if she could hear them now it would break her heart. How because of InuYasha she was tormented and ostracised, people believing InuYasha had corrupted her. Though she had faced bullying from other children, she had become better at befriending them and finding playmates. But she wouldn't be able to avoid it forever. She would face it even more as she grew older "Hai, but mama will come too" she agreed.

Miyuki smiled eagerly "Hai"

Kikyo carried the tray in her hands, she doubted Sesshoumaru would be pleased with a mere meat and potato stew with bread, but it was all she could offer. The lavish lifestyle of a DaiYokai that Sesshoumaru was adapted to she couldn't afford, her village was very poor. Sesshoumaru would have to understand that their lives were very different, he was entering InuYasha's world. She soon reached the edge of the border, where the barrier was located, spotting Sesshoumaru stood at the edge, watching the tree line. She wondered if he ever slept, if he hunted his food like InuYasha did, how his life differed from his little brother. He was so secretive it was hard to understand just what was going on in his mind.

"Sesshoumaru Ouji-san!" Miyuki squealed

Sesshoumaru turned his head silently, directing his gaze at Kikyo and Miyuki, so she had brought his niece with her. She had grown up immensely since he had seen her last. He wondered how she would appear when she was older, if she too would marry a human, or if she would instead marry a demon. Every day she mirrored both her mother and her father. She at least approached him with respect, unlike her father, recognising him as her elder, which he was relieved of.

"What did that brat call you? That's lord Sesshoumaru to you" Jaken snapped, they may have been related by blood, but they were lightyears apart, he was of noble ranking and birth. She was born in a common village, among humans.

"Enough Jaken" Sesshoumaru snapped, he was insulting his sister in law and niece. How did a toddler have more manners than he did? Miyuki had kept her distance and yet when she did approach him he didn't find her annoying. He was amused at the fact that her kimono mirrored the robe of the fire rat her father wore, only hers was decorated with small pink flowers.

Kikyo smirked, she wondered if Sesshoumaru secretly liked being called an uncle, he never corrected her or got annoyed when she did. She wondered if he was learning empathy from further exposure to his niece. Perhaps even demons like him were capable of change. "It's not much, it's all we have" she responded, she raised her hands through the barrier, handing Sesshoumaru the tray. He wasn't forced to accept it or eat it, for all she cared he could feed it to the imp. But she would know she was hospitable to him.

Sesshoumaru blinked, before taking the tray, someone like him didn't require sustenance as often as his brother, but he wouldn't reject a meal. It smelled good and she had used good seasoning, though her knowledge of their demonic senses, had assured no spices would be used. Balancing it to their taste buds, to be courteous as well as to stop Jaken's whining. Sesshoumaru placed the tray nearby before turning his attention to Kikyo and Miyuki, Miyuki gazed at him with fondness and excitement, if she had ears or a tail they would be wagging right now. The moments where she was quiet, merely observing she was less annoying, he didn't doubt she was already learning. He didn't understand how she could show such affection for someone like him, a complete stranger until their meeting. "I wouldn't leave InuYasha alone too long, even with the barrier his anxiety will be at an all time high. Though my demonic presence will ward off any intruders. Your presence will be of comfort to him" Sesshoumaru explained

"Ouji-chan is worried about papa too" Miyuki stated, he knew that her papa was in danger, that bad people would come for him. So he came to stop them, he just didn't want to admit that. Maybe he was softer than he let on, stubborn just like papa. Kikyo snorted in amusement but hid her smirk, Miyuki knew Sesshoumaru as well as she did, she hoped that she would continue to tease him as she got older. She would never tire of seeing her daughter tease her brother in law relentlessly. She couldn't wait to tell InuYasha about this later.

Sesshoumaru flinched, his eyebrow twitching as a frown deepened on his face, but he said not a word. "Where are your manners young lady!" Jaken snapped, to which Sesshoumaru kicked him in response.

Kikyo knelt to pick up her daughter, holding her close to her chest "Miyuki, papa is waiting for us. Let's leave Sesshoumaru Ouji-chan and his grumpy imp companion in peace" she chuckled. She had the feeling he would dislike being teased much further despite how amusing it was for her. She had a feeling he would be entertained for the evening with Jaken's incessant wittering. She turned slowly and began to walk back to the hut, though she tried to stifle her amusement.

InuYasha bit his lip from laughing, his body trembling as he felt humour wash through his body, imagining the look of anger and disgust on Sesshoumaru's face. Sesshoumaru was a proud demon and saw himself as a lord over every other living creature, for Miyuki to show him affection or call him "uncle" was the most embarrassing thing she could do, but he loved it. He'd called out Sesshoumaru on being a shitty brother for years, his negligence, bullying and abuse, how he was an inconvenience to his life, his perfect image. Now Miyuki did so easily, and he had to shut up and take it, this was the best thing to have ever happened. Miyuki may have shown him respect, she may have manners towards him, but she spoke her mind freely. He would have loved to see Sesshoumaru respond to her having a tantrum. Miyuki shovelled another spoonful of her food into her mouth eagerly, she loved mama's cooking, she got to see papa as a human, they could have dinner as a family and uncle Sesshoumaru had come to visit. It felt like a family gathering and it made her so happy, all the people she loved coming together.

"Miyuki-chan, don't eat too fast, you'll choke" Kikyo soothed, she knew she was excited but she needed to be careful. Miyuki nodded, slowing her spoonfuls and chewing. "He will stay here until daybreak, when your demon blood returns and I lower the barrier. I'm surprised he's so comfortable with it. Most demons are repelled by my demonic aura" Kikyo reflected. Kikyo's reputation had been earned for a reason, nobody on the continent was able to match her spiritual power, though there were many powerful priestesses, none could live up to her. Demons knew better than to step foot in her village, but now that Sesshoumaru had been visiting, demons would be repelled from visiting. She didn't think this would become habitual, there was no way Sesshoumaru would visit every month when his brother reverted to human form. He wouldn't suddenly show such concern after years of showing abuse towards his brother.

InuYasha hummed, even DaiYokai could be effected by spiritual power, it just took a lot more to take them down. "Oh he is, he's just being a jackass about it" he chuckled. Even higher demons didn't like spiritual power, though Sesshoumaru wouldn't be effected the same way, he would still be irritated and burned by the power of the barrier, her energy could still hurt him. He could smell the fear that Sesshoumaru emitted around Kikyo, he knew she could hurt him, infusing objects with her power. He knew that she only grew stronger with each passing day. She would protect InuYasha and their daughter with her life. He knew better than to mess with her or get on her bad side, he was also wary that if he hurt InuYasha's mate he would be out for blood.

"He's good at hiding it" Kikyo scoffed, he was a hard person to read and kept his emotions locked away. Most of the time he just sounded condescending and calculated. Compared to how InuYasha wore his heart on his sleeve, she questioned if he even had one. The more she heard about Sesshoumaru, the warier she was of his behaviour. Never knowing what side of him she would meet when he next appeared.

Miyuki stared at her papa, he seemed happier, more comfortable, less scared, she still didn't understand what her uncle had done to her papa to make them hate each other so much. She knew papa was hurt when he was younger, but he never told her by who or why. It made her sad. Kaede Oba-chan would know what to do, but she was still away at the temple training, she would be there for another few years before she returned home. She missed playing with her, collecting herbs with her, picking fruit and more, she was no longer part of their lives "Mama..." she trailed off

"Yes my love?" Kikyo asked, it had been a stressful evening and Miyuki was able to sense it, their anger, fear and stress, which would make her feel the same in return. There was so much on her mind and she didn't know what to do about it.

"When is Kaede Oba-chan going to visit home?" she mumbled, she belonged in the village, this was her home and she had been here when she was born. But then she had started travelling to the temple every day for a few hours, before permanently moving there and she hadn't come back. Didn't she love them? Wasn't she supposed to be her teacher too? She didn't understand why she couldn't be trained in the village?

InuYasha softened, for Kaede's training to become a priestess she needed to reside in a temple for a few years before being officiated like Kikyo had, then she would be a fully fledged priestess and either protect this village or another one. Kikyo had advanced her training herself by being her teacher as a child, now she would mentor from a monk. Being efficient with weapons wasn't the only skill of being a priestess, there was so much more to learn. But at Miyuki's young age it would be hard to comprehend such things. He remembered becoming a brotherly figure to Kaede and earning her trust, he too missed her nagging personality and sass. But he knew how Miyuki would be upset at the prospect of her auntie being so far away.

"Your Kaede Oba-chan is still in her training, she's mastering her spiritual power to become a priestess like mama. But we can go and visit her soon" Kikyo promised, at so early a stage in her training, Kaede couldn't afford distractions, but when she became a senior student she would be allowed visits. Kaede was following the same path she and many priestesses before her had walked, it was never an easy path and the choices weighed heavily. But they had their duty and needed to do well by it. The same training Miyuki would face someday. She knew that being her daughter, she would have gossip and rumours following her no matter where she went. Everyone would ask questions and harass her, expectations weighing upon her shoulders. But being a quarter demon she would also be bullied by human students, mocked and shunned for her identity.

Miyuki pouted sadly "Not fair... " she muttered, she didn't like how Kaede had to be so far away, how she could only send letters. Would she forget them? Would she ever come home?

"I know, but be patient" Kikyo soothed, she had raised Kaede, they had only had each other for the longest time, a team. She had nurtured her, taught her everything she knew. The bond they shared as sisters was strong and unbreakable. The day Kaede came home she would be happiest, able to see her little sister again, all grown up. But difficult choices had to be made along the path to becoming an adult, including leaving home and becoming your own person.

Kikyo laid a blanket over Miyuki, she had burned herself out from excitement and stress, collapsing into a peaceful sleep. Worrying about her father, crying all evening, cuddling with him and then a hearty meal had all but burned her out. She would sleep through the night and when she woke up, he would be as she remembered him. Her demonic stamina kept her awake longer than a normal human child, but eventually she burned herself out. Miyuki had been making friends with children in the village, passing her time and learning, socialising. She helped her parents where she could while enjoying the freedom of her youth. But she missed her auntie, she was being threatened by outsiders and not all of the villagers liked her.

"How are you feeling?" InuYasha asked calmly, he wasn't naive to the stresses his mate was under, all of it building like a storm. After a while was bound to snap, bound to hit burnout and become exhausted. She'd been working non stop all evening, keeping herself distracted as to not overwhelm him or coddle him. Making dinner, watching Miyuki, feeding his brother and keeping the barrier up, she was working twice as hard as usual due to him being a human. If she kept pushing herself, she would end up collapsing, which wasn't what either of them needed. She was going out of her way to protect him, she took the liberty of allowing him to hide in the back of their home in private away from roaming eyes. She knew he didn't want anyone seeing him like this, that he didn't want the attention or the suspicion.

Kikyo smiled, admittedly she was more exhausted than she let on, mostly due to stress. Her powers didn't affect her, she could do them subconsciously despite the focus it required. She was worried for her husband, worried for the future and worried for the world their daughter would face "I'll sleep well tonight, but I'll watch over you until morning comes. I know how anxious you get during this time" she soothed. She would keep her bow and arrows nearby all night, if she had to she could use her spiritual energy as a hand blast or project it into an attack. Though a bow and arrow were her main weapon, it wasn't the only one she was capable of wielding.

"Y'know, having the barrier up makes me safe, nobody can get into the village. For once I might actually be able to get a good nights sleep in this form" he smiled. He didn't have to constantly watch over his shoulder, be prepared for surprise attacks, or fight off exhaustion. He was within a barrier, he was safe in his own home, his family watching guard over him. He could sleep peacefully knowing that his wife would keep him safe, ensuring his protection, he would wake from his slumber unharmed. He could admit how exhausted he was, he could admit how fatigued he was, he could fall asleep with his wife in his arms and know nothing would happen to him. He hadn't felt this safe in a long time, it was a strange feeling. His first and only protector had been his mother, she never let anyone but herself and trusted servants see him as an infant and child. If not for her he never would have survived.

Kikyo softened, growing up, how many times was InuYasha terrified to fall asleep when he became human? Fighting against his starvation and the weather to stay awake, terrified of being killed if he so much as lowered his guard. Listening to every bump in the night. She couldn't imagine being used to that kind of fear, experiencing it. Never knowing which day would be your last and whether anyone you met was friend or foe. Knowing the life he had lived before was one of isolation and loneliness, it broke her heart. Why couldn't someone love him the way she did? InuYasha reached out his hand to her, which she took, running her thumbs across his hand to comfort him. She gripped his hands affectionately, attempting to console his worries. Kikyo worried about everyone but herself, she had such endless empathy for others it was endearing. He slowly guided her onto his lap, to which she shyly perched there. The warmth of his body heat, the fluttering of his heart, she could feel his eyes on her. InuYasha wrapped his arms around her affectionately, the same way a child would clasp a toy and never let go, selfishly clinging to her and refusing to share her attention. He buried his nose into her hair, breathing her in, resting his head on her chest. Kikyo blushed, her voice died in her throat, barely a whisper, her mouth becoming dry as blood rushed to her face and lower body "InuYasha?" she stammered.

"You smell so good, before you had a sweet scent, but after giving birth, I could get drunk on the way you smell" he hummed, even when they were supposed to be enemies and she was shooting arrows at him, he was drawn to her scent. The longer time he spent with her the more he enjoyed it, he noticed that the happier she was, the sweeter she smelled. The potency she had emitted during their wedding night would stay with him for the rest of his life. He'd never smelled a woman like her before, was it because she was a priestess or because of their love for each other. Was this how his father felt about his mother when they met? Was this why he fell in love with her? She reminded him of spring blossoms at first, but now she smelled like ripened fruit ready to be picked.

Kikyo nearly squeaked, this was the side of InuYasha when he was a human that lacked a filter, becoming honest. She wondered how all demons partners felt about the scent of their human mates. She never wore perfume, as it was unbecoming of a priestess, but she did enjoy it in small amounts. Once InuYasha gifted her some and she treasured the bottle, holding it on her person but wearing it sparingly. The way he seduced her, spoke such tender words, raw and unfiltered, it always made her swoon. "Do I smell different? When you are a human?" she stammered. She knew his senses would be dulled to the same level as hers, so perhaps she smelled different than how he was used to.

"The scent is softer, but I still remember it. I've always loved how you smell" he hummed, just like how his mothers scent had comforted him as a pup, Kikyo did the same but in a different way. He felt so safe in her arms, he felt he could pour his heart out to her without judgment, all of his flaws laid out. Sometimes her scent was mixed with blood, dirt, sweat and demons, especially after a fight which took a while to get rid of. Sometimes when she gathered herbs, she smelled like a garden, memories of his mother returning. But no matter what, he always enjoyed her scent.

Kikyo shifted, she knew InuYasha didn't want to distance himself from them, but it was out of habit. All he had ever known was how to hide and how to survive. Opening up to the people closest to him didn't come easily. "You were lonely weren't you, you isolated yourself as to not worry us. But you really wanted to see us didn't you? Miyuki and myself, not once did you complain when she sat on your lap. Or when we accompanied you at dinner" she reflected. She knew how badly he had wanted to hold her and Miyuki, how much it hurt to shut them out.

InuYasha blushed, he hadn't realised what love felt like until he met her, he never knew what it felt like to miss someone until he met her. Looking into her eyes, being in her presence made him feel calm, the endless eyes of brown. Growing by her side, learning to accept himself and discard his desire to become a full demon, all because of her. "You're my wife, is it so wrong that for one whole night I get you to myself? I don't have to share you with anyone until I turn back into a demon" he huffed. Sometimes he just wanted to hide away with Kikyo, somewhere secret and private where all they had was each other. To protect her from anyone that sought to harm her, to be her shield and her sword. She was so important to him he couldn't imagine life without her.

Kikyo bit her lip, he sounded so childish but she couldn't help but feel so much love for him in that moment. She cupped his face to stroke his cheeks, gazing into his intense brown eyes. Through him she learned she was more than a priestess, she was a woman too. "No, I feel the same, for right now we aren't a priestess or a demon. You are a man, I am a woman, we are husband and wife. We can enjoy each other" she smiled. She merely needed her bow to protect him and nobody else, the barrier, it was all for him. Tonight was all dedicated to him. InuYasha pulled her forward, tilting her head back, her eyes flickering with desire, silently urging him to kiss her. Pressing his lips to hers, enjoying how sweet they were. All of her was his to devour, to enjoy, just as he belonged to her. Right now he was a man, a human man, selfish, needy and weak, but he needed her. He wanted to hold her in his arms all night. Kikyo pressed herself against him, gripping the robe of the fire rat, deepening the kiss, she didn't want this moment to end.
