Disclaimer: I do not own Pokemon or Harry Potter
BloodyKitsune: Well here is chapter five! I have seen a couple questions, but nothing that I really think can be touched on save for this. A King Gene is something I came up with in this universe. It isn't in the games or TV show. It would be cool though if it was real
Chapter Five
Twining her fingers together, Vali walked behind Gary and Ash as they headed back towards the pokemon center. She noticed a flicker of movement in the corner of her eye and tilted her head in curiosity at the flash of bright white. Noticing her curiosity, Elrond spoke, "I believe those informants of yours, the ones we have on the Rocket project, have information."
Eyes narrowing, Vali nodded her head, 'Inform them that I'll meet them in an hour, I need to get these two settled back into the center.'
"Will do though from what I'm sensing they're quite hungry, I believe they've been ensuring their main pokemon are taken care of," Elrond shook his head earning a low sigh from her.
'Right, I'll have to ensure they get food during our meeting then. When we get to the center, I want you to go into my bag and grab them some berries to tied them over,' Vali tried not to show her dismay outwardly, 'And remind them that while I'm happy that they're taking care of their main pokemon, they too need to be cared for,'
A low chuckle left Elrond as they reached the pokemon center and he headed off earning noises of confusion from the boys. Ash frowned at her, "Vali, where is going?"
"Eli wants to relax for a bit," Vali didn't feel an ounce of shame lying about this, "The two of us have to leave in an hour for a bit,"
"Huh?" Gary and Ash looked at her in surprise.
"Nothing too serious, I just have to go look over some legal shit is all," Vali waved them off, "I'll be gone for a couple hours at most,"
Eyes narrowing at her, Gary frowned darkly, "But we can't come with you cause it's League business."
Letting out a soft laugh, Vali shook her head, "Partially, it's not quite official business, but has the potential to become such meaning I've got to go alone," She patted their shoulders, "You two should use the time I'm gone to better your bonds with Pikachu and Squirtle. Maybe work a bit more on mastering some attacks, ya know?"
"Sure," Ash mumbled looking at the ground while Gary just gave her a look of mulishness.
Rolling her eyes at them, Vali shook her head, "It's not dangerous, Guys. I've been doing this for years now."
"Still..." Ash frowned as he raised his eyes to look at her, "We just...We're trainers now, Sis. Can't you let us in on some stuff?"
"I will," Vali nodded her head lightly, "When you've got some badges under your belt and more partners to back you up,"
Both deflated at that and scowled at her, Vali smiled at them unrepentantly because right now they couldn't really argue with her. Unlike her, they wouldn't be able to do much against most threats. She pushed them towards the counter to get their pokemon taken care of.
Leaving the Pokemon Center was a little amusing as Ash and Gary tried to sneakily follow her only for Elrond to pick them out immediately, she quickly sent them both back into the building under guard of Eowyn who was less than amused by the pair of disobedient pups. Walking through Viridian City, she found her way to a rather classy restaurant that she'd had Elrond book earlier on and walked inside where the three she'd bee meeting with were already waiting. Walking into the private room, she looked at the two humans and single Meowth with a raised eyebrow, "So going hungry, you three?"
The oldest of the trio, a dark violet haired woman, bowed her head, "Sorry, Boss. We were running low on funds and wanted to make sure they wer-"
"You could have called. I do have money set aside just for you three," Vali cut the woman off as she sat down, "And remember, it isn't Boss. I might technically be holding onto your chain right now, but that doesn't mean much. You're allowed to call me Vali,"
"Right, B-Vali," The indigo haired male nodded seriously.
"Anyway," The Meowth jumped across the table and padded his way over to Vali on two legs earning an amused look, "Can we get some grub now? I'm starvin'!"
"Sure thing, Meowth," Vali giggled softly and reached out to rub the top of his head earning a brassy purr.
Meowth moved to cuddle into her lap earning a dark glare from Thorin that was ignored by the cat. Everyone ordered food rather quickly and made small talk while waiting for it to be delivered. Once it was delivered, they began to eat, Meowth spoke up, "Anyway, Jessie, James, and I managed to get deeper in cause they don't suspect a thing. They think we're just a bunch losers who can't do much."
"Thankfully this lets us hear a bunch of conversations," Jessie smirked after swallowing a mouthful of pasta, "Part of the reason we're here is to give you this,"
James pulled out a thick file folder and slid it across the table to Vali, "One of the executives. Pretty sure it was Domino as that woman is the only one bold enough to suggest it, is planning something for either Pewter Museum or Mount Moon. We weren't able to get close enough without blowing our cover, but..."
"Still," Vali started flicking through the file and began frowning, "The sheer fact that they're even daring to try is a big deal," The file didn't narrow down either location though it definitely targeted an area that held fossils, "I just..." She frowned as one name stood out to her, "Doctor Fuji? What in the world?"
"Who's Doctor Fuji?" Meowth asked curiously.
"Someone who definitely has more red tape and black marks on his file than most," Vali only knew that because she'd run into his name trying to research fossil pokemon, "You three definitely earned a bonus with this especially since a Bunnelby hole just opened up if his name has popped up,"
"Really?" Jessie frowned at Vali, "How come?"
Closing the file and placing it into her bag, Vali tried to figure out a way to put this into words, "Trying to look into Doctor Fuji is like pulling a Charizard's teeth, you'll get a flamethrower to the face especially if it's not for an 'innocent' reason and you don't have the correct clearances. Only five people know who that man actually is and what the hell happened to create that many problems, I am not one of them though I'd kind of like to be if only to satisfy my curiosity," She pinned the three with a look, "If Rocket is looking into Fuji for whatever reason, it is bad news with a capital B. You three need to find out why, but do not get yourselves killed."
"Gotcha," The three chorus.
"Good," Vali slumped into her seat with a deep sigh, "And I'm going to have to take this to the League. Shit,"
"We're sorr-" James started only to be waved off.
"It's best that we found this out now and can plan around this," Vali rubbed at her face and smiled when Meowth patted her cheek, "To be honest, I needed to head back anyway and grab a certain pair of team members,"
"So when we go back out, we'll be working to get info on what they want with this Doctor Fuji on top of our usual stuff, right," Jessie nodded to herself, "We can do this. After all, we were trained by the best,"
Rolling her eyes, Vali snorted softly and took out her pokedex, "Here is the money for you three and remember to call next time you need more."
"Right," The three flushed.
Using Diaval as a headrest, Lance was glad he'd decided to take a break for the moment. The paperwork he'd had to do was annoying lately especially with Vali gone and not able to help him out. He couldn't even bitch about it to Steven since the other champion was dealing with his own problems at the moment. He jerked in surprise as Diaval let out a coo of excitement and dropped him earning a grunt as he fell to the floor. Getting up with a groan, he looked to see where his partner had gone and gasped when he spotted Vali being hugged tightly by his partner.
Letting out a laugh, Vali hugged Diaval back, "Hey, Dia! I missed you too. Is Lance feeding you alright?"
Diaval let out a mournful coo earning a scowl from Lance. He shouted in protest, "I am feeding him right! He just hates that the Joy's told me that he needed to cut back on his extra berries."
"Poor thing," Vali patted his arm, "I'll have to bring you some berries next time I see you,"
Diaval let out a low croon and nuzzled into her neck before releasing Vali. Lance walked over and hugged his favorite girl in the world. She returned the hug before wacking him upside the head earning a yelp, "Vali! What the hell was that for?!"
"That was for hanging up on me and not answering my calls," Vali growled at him, "Seriously, did you really call me Mama?"
"Might've," Lance admitted with a sheepish grin as he released her, "My dragons tend to see you that way..."
Vali snorted with an eyeroll as her cheeks flushed in that adorable way, "Idiot."
"Am not," Lance's grin widened at the lack of denial though he had to ask, "What are you doing back? Did something bad happen to the boys?"
Shaking her head, Vali's expression dropped and Lance's spine stiffened, "No, they're fine. I came to grab a couple of my pack because there's going to be a shitty situation that I really don't want to walk into without them."
"Shitty situation?" Lance frowned and narrowed his eyes at Vali, "What kind of shitty situation?"
Rather than answer him outright, Vali reached into her bag and took out a rather thick file, "My little birdies managed to pick up some interesting information this time. Rocket is about to get bold and it involves Fuji."
Blood freezing in his veins, Lance took the file slowly, "The man who alongside Blaine managed to father the revival process? That Fuji?"
"The very one if what I read is correct," Vali answered as they began to walk towards his office, "Lance, I'm not coming back since the boys still need me, but if you all need help with whatever's about to happen..."
"We'll call you in as per our agreement," Lance nodded his head, "But fuck if Rocket is about to pull in Fuji of all people-"
"We might need to call in the Dex holders," Vali muttered with a grimace that matched the one that formed on his own face.
Only the dex holders and certain older members of the League knew just what Fuji was capable of, the man might have willingly allowed himself to be captured and placed under the equivalent of a psyche lock to prevent himself from being used. It didn't mean he was fully safe and the League kept a close watch on him even now to ensure he didn't do anything. Things were going to get messy as hell if Team Rocket was sniffing around Fuji for any reason, Lance did not want to imagine what they could possibly want with the man that had 'stumbled' across fossil revival with Blaine during something that he still wasn't fully privy to despite being Champion as the dex holders were being quite tight lipped about what had happened back during those misty days.
Glancing towards Vali as they entered his office, Lance asked, "How long are you able to stay? I know you won't able to tell us your sources, but..."
"Another hour at least, I told the boys that I was going through some legal shit that might turn into League stuff," Vali ran a hand through her hair with a grimace, "They're not expecting me back for another hour or two. When you asked me to look into this stuff when I mentioned the G-men not exactly being discrete enough, I didn't expect this,"
"No one did," Lance snorted softly as he headed over to his desk, "Want to get some food since you've got an hour?"
"I ate with my contacts," Vali replied dropping onto the rather plush couch that normally acted as a make shift bed if he was up late doing paperwork, "Otherwise I'd definitely be saying yes,"
"Too bad," Lance took a seat at his desk and began looking through the file in earnest, "We'll need to plan around both the Museum and Mount Moon not to mention up the guard on Doctor Fuji," He grimaced a bit, "While we knew that the Rockets were starting to move, it definitely seems a bit much for them to act like this,"
Plans on how to set up security for both locations while still allowing for traffic began to run through his mind, Lance admitted that part of him enjoyed the puzzle even if it made him a bit nervous. The idea of Fuji being brought back to full comprehension from how he was now made the latent draconic instincts within him chafe at the thought and part of him was tempted to kill of the prospective threat for what it was. He pushed it away for the moment though because the old man unlike Blaine wasn't a true threat unless his mind was actually unlocked and even then, it was doubtful he'd actually help the Rockets what with how he had asked for his mind to be tampered with before. Still though, he would keep the idea of on a shelf just in case if only for the sake of ensuring his Regions safety.
Leaving Lance after a long discussion, Vali headed to her rooms within the League which were settled on the southern most part of the Indigo Plateau. She entered them and smiled as a burst of sound hit her ears. Walking across the padded fireproof carpet, she passed by the carved wood coffee table that looked like it had seen better days and the big-screen tv that was playing some kind of poke-drama. She paused in front of the couch where a Pyroar was stretched out asleep with a Furret blinking in and out of consciousness. Smiling softly as Elrond and Aragorn headed deeper into the room, she reached out to run a finger along the silky fur of the Furret's head earning a squeak of surprise from the ferret-like pokemon as it began to wake up fully, "Having a nap, Otho?"
Otho, the Furret, yawned and quickly rose up to jump at Vali. Letting out a laugh, she began to cuddle with the sweet tempered pokemon who murmured out, "Sis, sis, sis! You're back! Oh, you missed some drama! Jiggles messed with Dragon again and that psychic boy caused an upset with the dark princess!"
Smile widening into a gentle grin, Vali ran her fingers along the Furret's body, "And I'm sure you'll tell me all about it, my sweet little gossiper. For now though, I need to check in on everyone else. I can't stay too long though."
"Ooh, why not?" Otho whined at her as he nuzzled at her neck, "You promised that we could play for a long while when you came back. Maybe play some pranks too!"
"Because those young cubs of hers are just starting to get rid of their milk teeth," Irmo yawned out cracking open an eye to look at them and Vali smiled at the Pyroar, "Sis, I assume you aren't grabbing us all?"
"Just Gladi and Nazgul," Vali answered earning a rumble of interest, "We're about to deal with some shit situations that can't quite be avoided. I'd rather have some advanced warning which Gladi usually provides me and since Naz is learning from her..."
"Best to heave him on the job besides he has become somewhat stir-crazy as of late," Irmo snorted and tossed his head, "Will you be calling on us?"
"Later on, I think I'll be grabbing Idril since we're heading into Mount Moon and I know she's been wanting a glance at her former home. I'll probably grab you as well," Vali admitted earning a low groan from the lion.
Irmo flicked his tail, "I'll prepare myself though I truly dislike subterranean areas. You might want to use one of the others."
"I'll consider it," Vali reached out and rubbed under his jaw earning a groan of pleasure, "Now, I've got to go see the others that are here. Ortho-"
Ortho wrapped himself around her shoulders which answered the question she was about to ask. Letting out a soft laugh, she shook her head and headed to one of the largest of the three doorways in her rooms. Walking through the already open door, she found all her pokemon that were at the Plateau gathered together with Elrond and Aragorn explaining the situation at hand. Rather than interrupt the information session, she glanced over her pokemon with a careful eye.
Terra had finished her final growth spurt as a Tyranitar and stood at the taller end as a female of her species. She bore a few battle scars and was missing a couple spikes though though were all showing signs of re-growing currently. Compared to when she'd first received her all those years ago as a Larvitar, the Tyranitar had grown into an outgoing and sweet tempered if a bit violent at times pokemon. Granted, she like everyone among the pack tended to ditch their manners when it came to any threats against their family and always took a more violent route. Much like Elrond though, she tried to be a Peace keeper though she tended to take after Smaug in the 'I will hit things until they do it my way' approach.
Empress had grown beautifully into a full grown Salamence and while a bit smaller than some members of her species, still managed to out-gun many of them. She like many of their pack bore scars from their younger years the most telling of which was a deep scar along her stomach. Much like Terra, she had grown quite a bit and become something of a leader among the group when Balto wasn't around though she quickly fell in line when he was. Ensuring that everyone behaved themselves had become a passion for her, she disliked it when they didn't behave and was somewhat brutal.
Idril much like Terra had finished growing though was on the small end of her species likely due to what had occurred before Vali had found her. She bore heavily scars on her arms and upper torso with a few of her quills missing. She was still on the quiet side and disliked outsiders though branched out to the newer members of their pack when they seemed to be struggling. When it came to baby pokemon though, the Sandslash shined the brightest and mothered them which is why her pokemon tended to allow Idril to take care of their young especially Empress as she wasn't that interested in her children after she'd had an egg.
Pippin had grown into a strong Luxray that barely ever fell into his form clumsiness though it did occasionally happen when he got a bit too tired. He bore a few scars especially on his sides and back. He was louder than most and tended to jump at greeting any of their newer pack members. Usually one of the first to greet them, he acted as the face of the pack outside of Balto which was odd amongst males of his species according to Surge. He tended to assist Idril with the baby pokemon and act as her general helper.
Bombur had become a rather quirky Dewgong that enjoyed playing around more than battling most of the time. He still bore scars from all that they'd been through together and pulled his weight though. It wasn't that he disliked battle, but he just enjoyed making people laugh more which prompted Vali to push him into contests more often then not.
Balrog had grown from the curious Magby that Vali had gotten all those years ago with Blaine. At first once he'd evolved into Magmar, he'd been cocky and angry then just very bitter after losing to all her other pokemon. It took a very long time for the Magmar to come around and become the passionate beast he was now. She was going to help him evolve into a Magmortar soon enough though had to decide how. Unlike most, she had permission from the very one to bless the Magmar-line with their final evolution to help her Magmar reach his final evolution should he pass the great bird's test. Part of her was tempted to just have him evolve the normal way while the rest wanted to give him the power boost that would come from the natural evolution that her master would be able to provide, it was a test in and of itself.
Galadrial had grown from that tiny little Litwick that had wandered over to her out of hunger into a hauntingly beautiful Chandelure that perfectly matched her name. Much like Vali had thought, she had taken to contests like a duck to water and become quite the hit. Though she had done her best to outside of them as well, she had her own scars though unlike other pokemon a ghost was able to heal completely with time. It would likely be many years before those deep scratches fully healed.
Even as the years went by, Rosie had remained playful in nature despite the hardships that had come their way which was something the Chikorita-line were known for. Even after becoming a Meganium, she was still playful though did her best to ensure everyone around her was in the best condition possible which often left the poor thing exhausted. She tended to be a calming force among their more troublesome pack members which was a good thing when things got a bit too heated and attacks were about to get thrown about. When it came time to train their newer members, she did her best to help ease their aches and pains.
Balin was still wary of strangers just as he had been as a Cyndaquil though it was more over what had happened over the years since becoming companions. As a Typhlosion, Balin retained a love for reading and had become the packs lore keeper basically. Anything that had to deal with knowledge, he tended to know it or would figure it out. During their journeys, she had even gotten him his own modified lap-top at the request of Bill and professor Oak after they realized just how intelligent he was. Even now, he was typing on the thing and likely discussing something with the two.
Khione had grown from the Amaura that had seemed so confused to find itself in a hellscape into an amazing goddess of a Aurorus. There were often times that the Aurorus was confused about the world around her, she often took comfort in Balin as the Typhlosion was content to answer any questions the larger pokemon had whenever they popped up and even relished in it. Khione wasn't a violent soul though enjoyed battle to a degree. She just tended to try frosting over the battlefield the moment she felt any pain leading to her developing a defensive strategy much like Pele. And much like Pele, she had a habit of destroying battlefields since her ice tended to root itself deep into the ground or she'd quite literally tear the field up if the mood struck her.
Disa the spicy little Jolteon who had practically bonded herself to Vali during her earliest days working alongside the rangers that worked out of Vermillion City. Surge had laughed himself silly when the pup who had a tendency to shock anyone who dared approach her plopped herself into Vali's lap the moment she sat down in his office that hot day in the gym. Apparently the little shit had been stalking her since she'd come into the gym leaders care after a rather horrible case of neglect with her old trainer, Surge had dropped the paperwork for the Jolteon onto her after realizing that the then nameless Disa wouldn't be leaving his favorite brat's side. Much like Thorin, Disa stuck to her side like glue whenever she could and acted like a guard Growlithe.
Nazgul the playful if a bit vengeful Gengar that had quite literally fell into Vali's lap four years ago when she'd gone to pay homage to the Brass Tower. Agatha had taken one look at the Gengar and laughed herself sick while Morty had looked at the sight in bewildered alarmed as the Gengar gave her a wide eyed look. Rather than attack, Nazgul merely started trying to play with Vali and Galadrial happy to find 'friendly' faces as the other ghosts within the area had been quite aggressive towards the Gengar. By the time they left, Vali had captured Nazgul which left her with yet another shiny pokemon who'd been bullied over their odd coloring though for ghosts it was more a matter of age than actually being shiny.
As soon as she stepped close enough, Disa rushed to Vali's side and began to rub against her pant leg, "Sister! Is it true there is trouble on the horizon?"
"Yes, but I think Gladi and Naz should be enough alongside those I already have with me," Vali bent down to run her fingers through the Jolteon's fur and smiled softly at the whine that left the electric-type, "Besides, aren't you on light duty?"
Disa looked away from her with a flush clearly visible on her muzzle. Thorin grunted and butted his head into Disa's shoulder, "There is a reason you're here, Dis. I do not need my mate to endanger our pups before they're born."
"I know...I just feel useless!" Disa groaned out.
"You're not," Vali smiled at Disa, "I know you're probably keeping everyone safe here and likely ensuring Lance doesn't do anything stupid,"
"True. I swear that idiot of yours needs to learn how to calm the fuck down and that's coming from the most energetic member of the Vee family outside of the Sylveon-line!" Disa shook her head before looking at Thorin, "Shall we lay down together until it is time to leave, Rin? I...I've missed it..."
Thorin looked at Vali for a moment and she nodded earning a slight smile. The two headed towards where many of the pokemon beds were set up. Vali turned her head when she felt a cold reptilian snout brush against her cheek. Smiling warmly at Khione, she placed a gloved hand on the Aurorus' nose, "Khione, how is my icy goddess?"
"I am well. You are not stay long, are you?" Khione asked earning a nod, "A bit disappointing, but understandable. How are those boys? Are they well?"
"They are. I've had to help them out a bit, but even without my help they probably would've been fine," Vali rubbed Khione's nose earning a low purring sound and grinned a bit as the ear frill's of the large creature vibrated a bit in pleasure, "I'll be taking a lot of pictures, so you'll all be able to see everything we're doing,"
"I look forward to see it," Khione raised her head and turned to peer at Empress as the Salamence ventured closer, "Empress,"
"Princess," Empress replied before looking at Vali, "Treasure, you do not require me? If there is danger, I would prefer to go even if the brute is there,"
Rolling her eyes lightly, Vali retorted, "Need I remind you that you're still recovering from your last batch of eggs?" Empress narrowed her eyes and snorted, "Smaug isn't the only one there, ya know."
"I'm aware, but he also lost to Diaval during my last season meaning he's gotten weaker," Empress retorted making Vali facepalm.
Of course, Empress was being difficult because of what had happened during her last mating season even if it wasn't actually Smaug's fault. How could it have been? Smaug hadn't asked to get sick right before the damn thing. Of course, the overly prideful Salamence refused to see reason and probably wouldn't until the next season happened. Shaking her head, she lowered her hand to give Empress a look, "I am not taking you along, Empress. If anyone was going to go, it would be Balrog, Balin, or Terra."
"Ooh, I get fresh meat?" Terra grinned toothily earning a glare from Empress that was ignored, "Can I please go, Sis? I've been really bored,"
"Same," Balrog crossed his arms with a low snort, "While the dragon champion does take us out occasionally, it doesn't bring us much entertainment,"
"I've already made my choices, guys," Vali told them earning a pair of pouts while Empress stomped her front paw, "But I will start rotating you guys around, I promise,"
"Fine," Came the sulky replied that earned a soft smile from her.
Vali found a pair of chilly arms curling around her waist and giggled, "Hello, Naz. Ready to go on an adventure?"
"Always!" Nazgul giggled and pressed his face into her back, "Can I hide in your shadow and scare the shit out of people? Please?!"
"Of course," Vali snickered softly at the thought as Galadriel giggled as she floated towards them, "Gladi,"
"Sister-Flame," Galadrial greeted her with a soft hum, "Trouble does follow you without even trying, doesn't it,"
"It does," Vali shook her head lightly and reached out touch the thin glass holding the Chandelure's flames within her head, "How are you today? Your flames are looking rather vibrant,"
"Agatha took Naz and I out for a while last night. We had fun," Galadrial answered radiating a joyful feeling, "We traveled quite far into Johto and scared quite a few people. Naz has started to become proficient with his illusions,"
"It was so much fun!" The Gengar added with a laugh and released his grip to join Galadrial in front of her, "You should have seen their faces. Classic!"
Brilliant white fur gleamed in the lights within her room, Nazgul's body looked positively pudgy showing that he had feasted off the fear that had come his way last night. She shook her head in amusement, "I'll have to thank her. For now though, we should get your pokeballs checked out and start heading out. I don't have much time."
Nods were given by her pokemon, Vali quickly went about gathering Galadrial and Nazgul's pokeballs which had been custom painted with a howling Arcanine surrounded by fiery feathers. She added them to her belt while the two quickly hid themselves in her shadow. Thorin rejoined her after nuzzling Disa one last time while Elrond finished up his conversation with Balin who nodded to her. Aragon finished speaking with Idril and Pippin who waved her from where they were lounging on the bed next to where Bombur was sleeping with his tail dunked in one of the deep ponds within her rooms. As three joined her, an Gardevoir appeared and bowed lightly.
The pokemon smiled warmly, "My lady, are you ready to return to Viridian city?"
Returning all the three boys, Vali nodded, "Yes, Varis. Will Gladi or Naz be a problem? They're in my shadow today."
Varis shook her head, "No more than yourself."
With a slight jerking movement as Varis touched her shoulder, Vali found herself with Viridian city and shook her head lightly. She nodded as Varis bowed once more before teleporting away. She headed towards the pokemon center only to frown at seeing smoke rising up. Panic coiled within her gut at the sight, she started to race through the street while calling out Elrond, Thorin, Aragorn, and Balto. Jumping onto Balto, she called out, "Balto, we need to book it to the pokemon center! There is smoke, we've got no way of knowing what's going on especially since neither of the boys called me!"
Balto let out a howl of anger and darted forward as Aragorn and Thorin struggled to keep up while Elrond just dropped himself into her lap. Elrond spoke with a dark growl, "There are electric transmitters dampening any signals the closer we get to the pokemon center."
"Shit," Vali growled under her breath, "No wonder they couldn't reach me,"
Mentally praying that her brothers were okay, Vali gripped Balto's fur harder in an effort to usher him forward faster.
