Episode 16: Winter is Coming

Part 2

"Ahhh!"

"I am alone, I am forgotten, I am a disgrace, I am nothing but a poor defenceless human being, I thought that I could stop them, but I couldn't" words of demoralization that demon fox said kept scratching against her soul internally.

If Loveday hadn't felt so scared now, she would've died the minute she'd felt her mysterious fiancé kiss her trembling lips. Now staying frozen in stone-cold consciousness, the teenager felt nothing. Only an empty sea of voidness.

Though to her own huge relief, her own slim body was able to move freely again, no longer shackled hard to the ground. Yes, it felt great being back to her old boring self, wearing the same old clothes with her long hair tickling down.

As she gratefully refilled the smoothing air back into her lungs, she thought helplessly about the most depressing dream she'd ever seen. What did her new vision mean? Who were those evil foxes? And why the hell did they try marrying her to this evil entity they referred to as their god?

Before believing her own vision could truly mean the downfall of White Deer Park, Lovedays conclusive thoughts lifted when her seeping eyes saw familiar surroundings.

She gave a startled look; it was all back there in front of her. A circle of gigantic stones!

The Stonehenge that cornered the large tree in the very centre. Where she found herself laying right underneath of now. Lying on the soft bright green grass while tiny flowers fell directly from the tree's long wooden arms, and instead of falling they floated perfectly up to the air like soap bubbles.

Gasping at this familiar place, Loveday stumblingly stood up as her lost memories came flooding in. This was the place where she'd first met Kell all those months ago. Back, back in the protective world of the dimension.

"Holy mother nature!" Loveday swore, twirling her dress into a spin with a happy laugh.

Or was this just some cruel trick she was looking at? Maybe it wasn't the same place she remembered. It must all be a fake illusion. Well whatever place this is? it was better than her last one.

"Loveday"

Undoubting who that sounded like Loveday looked contentedly above to where her animal ears heard that voice. A large Fox was smirking back at her from a branch.

"Kell!" Loveday yelled happily as she ran to him. Without being grateful to see him back, Loveday would've been angry with him for not turning up sooner. However, she maturely held on, she knew that Kell had never left her side ever since. Even if he was invisible all the time, probably.

Springing his four legs Kell sprang out of the tree to let Loveday wrap her arms on his neck.

"I thought I'd never see you again" Loveday sniffed, loving the feel of his tender fur against her stroking hands.

"You wouldn't if I were not here now" Kell replied with a smug as he curled down into a relaxed position, wagging his tail behind him.

"Ohh, Kell it was all so horrible, I thought that…" Loveday nearly broke down as she collapsed beside him.

"I know, I know" Kell comforted her. He nuzzled against the girl, wiping his long tail to ease off his friend's face until she felt better. "Tell me my friend how've you been? Is Park life suiting you well? And your house?".

For a few moments, they both quietly sat there.

After relaxing from her trauma, Loveday told Kell everything about her and the farthing wood animals since the day they'd found White Deer Park, although it was not a pretty story.

"And if it weren't for the Great White Stag's kindness, we'd never have the rights to live on Farthing land for ourselves, and none of my friends would be safe in the park" Loveday finished, it had been a long story and she was out of breath from telling it "I seriously never thought that he'd help us so much after we just met him" Loveday continued in admiration.

"How very generous he is. Consider yourself lucky to have a deer like him on your side" Kell remarked, "and thankfully you and your friends are still trying to keep the oath you have sworn too by living together as a community on Farthing land".

"Yes, and I am happy that things aren't so awkward anymore" Loveday added, stretching her limbs out and laying down "I get to be with them every day, I even visited all the places the animals are now living in, every burrow, nest and hole so I'll know where they are if they ever need me. Fox and Vixen, our only next door to me so I'll be able to see them more, it didn't feel right to leave him and Vixen all alone without somebody to help watch over them. After what Scarface did to ruin our first day, we've agreed to live near each other since we do prefer it that way. And Fox told me that he'd be less worried if I was a short distance away".

"I'll say you and Fox make quite a pair now, I can see that now your friendship is growing stronger, and you're using it to help make a better world for all of your companions".

"Technically he is still in charge, and I can't abandon them as their guardian, so fate has chosen for us both to continue our duty to protect those who live on farthing land" Loveday asserted, "it was unexpected, but we know the park isn't a safe haven like the stories have told us".

"What a terrible shame, I'm sorry you had to find it all out the hard way and losing your poor mouse friend too" Kell sympathized.

"Thank you Kell" Loveday hardly kept her sad emotions from view, all this negative talk made it easy for her feel forgetful about the positives.

"Let's talk more about you, shall we? And apart from helping the critters settle into their new homes. I believe safeguarding your houseguests would be part of your job too Hmm?" Kell asks as his eyebrows flash up and down.

"Oh yes, it's all in my description and she gave me quite a surprise!" Loveday finally laughed flipping over her body to face him "You see, I got back from hunting outside the park with Fox and Vixen that night, we all had a great time catching a few birds and rodents to eat. Then as I made it back home, I'd discovered that, Adder! uninvitedly snuck into my house and has been sleeping under a pot I left by my fireplace".

"That snake friend of yours really is cold-blooded, sneaking herself and hibernating in your home. Doesn't she know that it's your space, and not hers." Kell huffs annoyingly.

With a small smile Loveday didn't complain "I'm not bothered about Adder sleeping over. I'm used to her having her own snaky ways and we do get along. If I didn't want her for a roommate, I'd have thrown her out. Though she should've just asked me, it's too late now that she's gotten away with it. So, I'm stuck with her for the whole winter".

"Late? Like when you didn't use your powers to protect yourself when you were taken down by the alpha?" Kell taunted darkly.

Pause! feeling her heart sank lower than her feet, Loveday said nothing as she sat back up. She should've known, Kell was too smart to avoid bringing it up.

"Yes…I was too late" Loveday shamefully murmured with a long face resting plainly on her knees.

"…Kell?".

"Yes…What is it?" Kell was scratching his ear with his back leg.

Building all her strength inside Loveday dared to find out what happened "Can you tell me if you know anything about who this…this…Alpha is?".

"The Alpha, why yes I do but you won't like it anyway" Kell said calmly.

"Please tell me?" desperately Loveday held her breath to hear the spiritual knowledge of this thing she feared was going to come back and get her to be his queen like it did happen before, the question to who the beast really was made her think that it was something pulled from the land of the dead.

"He's only a figment from your imagination" Kell bluntly answers.

"WHAT!" Loveday nearly strangled him out of frustration.

"You heard me, there is no such thing as the alpha because what you saw wasn't real. The alpha is basically nothing, nothing but your fears sewn together to make a creature that will devour you when times are desperate. Your own boogeyman to put it"

"Grrrr! What the hell are you talking about, that cannot be true!" Loveday growled. Turning away in a skulk. After all she'd been through this is the last subject, she wanted to discuss.

"Don't be so sure young lady, everything that your sacred crystal showed you was simply trying to warn you"

"Yeah, like what? all this time I thought it was in trouble with this alpha guy and now you're telling me that all I was marrying back there was something that I made up!".

"Naturally nightmares can make you feel more vulnerable like you are now, but your unfavourable wedding was more of a test to show you what will happen if you don't invoke your own powers anymore".

Loveday facepalmed a hand to her eyes.

"A test? This is all getting too crazy for me now" Loveday tried to dismiss. Unbelievable.

"Crazy ha! Well let me ask you something more crazy. Are you getting any better at using your magic lately"

"Yes I'm…!" Loveday stopped herself. Her temper lowered as she fearfully thought hard.

"Yes what?" Kell waited with a grin.

"Ugh" Loveday struggled.

"Come on spit it out" Kell pressured.

"Fine you've got me! My answer is no, my magics been rusty. I have tried remembering to do those awesome things I use to with my ring, moving objects and controlling fire or water, but I cannot even do them anymore, I'm sorry" Loveday confessed guiltily.

"So you should be. You should've known by now that your powers are weakening from your lack of practise" Kell mentioned with disapproval.

"No! you mean that's what my dream was warning me" Loveday exclaimed. Now she really was in big trouble.

"Oh Yes, apologising won't bring them back, you've allowed yourself to forget how to do them".

"I didn't mean to do it, it's just…all these weeks, I had to finish off preparing my house for the winter and Badger told me that it's going to be a harsh one this year" Loveday admitted him.

"And if you were not ready to fight any other dangers that are to come during this winter? Then you'd be killed or worst everybody you want to protect will be killed; do you not remember what happened to your pheasant friends".

"Yes… I do" Loveday gulped, she'd never gotten over the guilt of watching Mrs Pheasant be killed by a gun and she did nothing but let the poor bird die under her care, plus she didn't have the heart to refuse Mr Pheasant from going back to the farm which got him killed after.

Her thoughts soon shifted "Now it's starting to make more sense, I guess that vision wasn't lying to me at all".

"No, it wasn't" Kell added seriously "a sacred crystal warns its master when time is running out for them, and right now you should start focusing on finding the spirit of Farthing Wood again.

"Yes, your right" Loveday accepted "without it we won't survive for long and if the death and destruction from my vision does come true then White Deer Parks future will be doomed, and I was supposed to protect it, that is what I understand now".

"Correct! You are good at puzzles" Kell complimented.

"It's a gift…but that won't help save me" Loveday mocked "I wish there was a way to know more about my magic, if grandma had stayed longer, she'd know what to do".

"I can see that you're now sorry, for that I'll make a deal with you, if you promise me that you'll study hard and not let your fears control you. I'll make sure that the alpha doesn't come back to haunt you again in your sleep"

"Really?" Loveday beamed moving up closer "Can you really do that for me? I feel that I don't deserve your help and…I'm a bit scared".

"If you're scared than that's a good start, only the best warriors are the ones who stay honest with their feelings" Kell prompted "and for my record I know just as much as your grandma did".

"Alright it's a deal" Loveday agreed. Anything to avoid laying down to her creature from hell was better than gold or diamonds.

"Very well you are forgiven…come with me!" Kell commanded as he and the teenager stood and walked away from the tree. Trotting proudly around the beautiful scenery, it didn't take long for Loveday to start feeling relief.

"What do I do now?" Loveday wondered as she playfully caught some floating flowers in the air. It was fun trying to catch them in her hands as they all flew by.

In a few minutes Kell didn't reply until they'd moved further.

"Before I send you back, first you'll need a trifle for all your troubles, and it's my way of saying well done to you for completing that journey" Kell recompensed.

"Are you going to give me something?" Loveday hinted excitedly like a child on Christmas day.

"Yes, but these are not toys. They will push you beyond limitation as long if you follow instructions correctly without complaint" Kell demanded "And if you do than they'll help change your life forever".

"Is that supposed to be good" Loveday asks warily, letting go of the bunch of flowers in her hand "for me or my friends".

"You'll soon see" Kell indicated "it all depends on how you use them like you do with your crystal".

"Ooh right, I get it" Loveday nods as they both came to a stone plinth standing solemnly in between two large stones.

"A plinth with nothing on it, I kind of expected something a little more" Loveday frowned. With her arms crossed.

"Impatient aren't we?" Kell remarked "watch this".

Loveday watched as the plinth soon turned lighter, the flat platform of it began to smoulder in a flash of strong beams. Loveday blinked to see something materialise out of its glowing clouds of smoke. The queer shape sat solidly on top; Loveday imaged it to be a gravestone with wrinkles. She could clearly describe seeing a holy cross sticking out too.

"What is this?" Loveday was surprised as she saw the smoke reveal a very brown soggy fabric wrapping tightly around what Kell was indicating too.

"What do you call that now? A little bit more" Kell teased.

"It just rose out of there like lava" Loveday smiled impressively, drawing closer towards the plinth fanning away her hands at the strings of hot smoke levelling off the top of it. Closer up the edges of the dirty parcel were tightly knotted, so Loveday starts to unwound it.

As the fabric finally loosened its grip, her fingers found the ends and began to unravel the cloth delicately. Lovedays chest was bouncing off the walls, removing it piece by piece.

Loveday raised her eyebrows as she drew away the last flap.

"Oh my gosh!" Loveday stared in woah. Sitting in front of her was a book. It was framed in dark metal, Celtic knots and vines decorated the front cover.

"It's beautiful" Loveday whispered.

Before tempting to pick it up, something else long and sharp slid out of the packaging. At first it didn't look like much but when Loveday seized hold of the long strap, the leather embroidered belt she was holding had a small scabbard hanging off.

"Is this a dagger?" Loveday immediately pulled the scabbard up. Detaching it off its ring Loveday examined the details. The handle and crossguards curled into a gothic holy cross with a medieval fox head embedded in the middle with beady crystal irises on each side.

The girls eyes didn't stir away from the beautiful blade for long as it seemed time stood still the longer she kept admiring it. Fingering the hard wavy artistry across the metal fox head.

The special bit was when she discovered the grey iron blade removed from its stealth read words engraved in golden lettering. Her eyes scanned closely to the writing.

"Farthing Wood Animals Forever"

"It's my motto" Loveday trembled, pulling her head back in shock.

"These are for you, the scian is only for your defence since you need extra protection" Kell said as he watched Loveday strap on the Celtic belt to her waist.

"Feels a bit heavy" Loveday checked to see if it fit all over as she fidgeted with its new blade playfully "but this scian dagger will come in use". She was so excited with her new weapon that she unresisted to meddle with it. Twitching and sprinting back and forth with her arms swaying into dynamic poses as she fought her imaginary enemies.

"Ha! Behold my sword of justice!" Loveday chuckled as she fisted the blade till it shone in the light.

"Woah! Watch where you point it!" Kell flinched himself away from her "that thing your holding is shaper than any talon and will easily kill someone if you don't put it away" Kell insisted severely.

"Oh yes" Loveday considered with a chuckle "I got carried away, sorry", she obediently slipped the scian back into its brown scabbard where it would be out of harm's way. Neglecting the weapon, she turned her attention back towards the book.

"Can I?" Loveday asked gesturing to touch it.

"Please it's yours anyway" Kell permitted her, looking relieved as she took it off the plinth quickly. The book wasn't as big as it first appeared, you can say it was the same size as a small notebook and it fitted well in both Loveday's hands.

"Let's see" Loveday thought, then she gripped the cover and opened it, at the beginning she could only read a small piece of text.

(Beware! You are now possessing a dangerous weapon that is not from the world of man. You'll find This full of secret remedies and feasibilities that are not to be read to anyone but yourself. Under no circumstance, let anyone see the contents inside without permission. Read with diligence and use only for good)

"Wow this is so cool and with a scary start too. I like that" Loveday grinned. If this was what she'd been praying for all this time than it had to be answer to the mystery behind her powers.

"Oh Yes, it's been passed down to every feral psychic that has ever lived" Kell added gladly wagging his tail "when the last owner of this book became a great guardian, the book disappeared and has not been seen for years until today, but now that you are chosen as the next barer it will stay with you until you are a true feral psychic in the end".

As she rolled through the contents inside the many numbered pages, Loveday knew by the grimy condition that the book was kept in, did prove that it had not been used for a long time "How long will it take for me to become powerful like the last person?"

"For as long as takes for you to study every page" Kell answered.

Loveday gave him a look to say that he was joking "OK…but Kell there's nothing on the rest of these pages they're all empty all I can see are the page numbers. It's just a blank book".

"Call it whatever you wish for it to be, but it is the ultimate guide, spellbook, and medicine dictionary all written in one. You see Loveday this is a magic book made by the mystic's who descended from nature, not an ordinary one like you've seen before, or have you missed reading that bit?".

"I find that hard to believe, am I supposed to unlock it with a magic spell or something" Loveday said sarcastically.

"Yes"

"What?"

"Look in the book again"

"But I've already" Loveday paused as she turns to stare at the bottom of the first page, she didn't remember seeing this bit written below the last text she saw.

(Recommendation! Write yourself a secret word on these lines to make the matter expose, use it every time!)

"Oh!" Loveday was shocked to see this.

"Didn't expect that did ya?" Kell sniggered.

"Well no, it's not every day you see a book requiring you to give it a password" Loveday giggled.

"Only magic books need one. So are you going to write one down?" Kell implied, with a pretend look.

"Yes" Loveday nodded as she looked at the blank lines in the middle, waiting to be given her word of choice "except I haven't got a pen though".

"No need to worry, look on the plinth" Kell pointed his paw "there's one".

"Is there?" Loveday spotted a what looked like an ink bottle with a pure white feather sitting in it. It had just appeared on top of the plinth like the writing did out of nowhere.

"A quill? bit old fashioned but I'll use it" Loveday pucked the feather up then she tapped her chin with it as she thought.

"Right what word should I use? It mustn't be too easy or too hard to spell. It did say use one word and that's all. Maybe the name of a plant or something. Wait…I know a good word. Yes, I'll try that one but I must not share it to anyone, not even Kell. Come on Loveday".

"Are you ready or must we waste anymore time?" Kell waited impatiently

"I will be if you stop distracting me" Loveday retorted, moving a bit away from the nosy fox she lifted the quill and very carefully wrote a single word in golden ink.

"Done!" Loveday called.

"At last," Kell rolled his eyes "Did it work?"

"Let me see" Loveday's hand was shaking nervously as she dared turn to the next page. In one flick she soon saw hundreds of texts start to reappear on the paper. Words, numbers, pictures, titles, borders everything. Each page Loveday excitedly flipped had it all showing there.

"Yes!" Loveday cheered, jumping up with achievement "I can see it! You were right!"

"That's good to hear" Kell nodded calmy "thats what you get for doubting me".

"This really is a magic book, there's so much in this I have never seen before" Loveday rummaged restlessly.

"Don't get too excited just yet, there are a few things which you'll have to remember first" Kell Brought up "you'll have plenty of time to search in there".

"Yes what you said" Loveday didn't focus him as she had her nose stuck in a book literally.

"LOVEDAY!" Kell shouted in his loudest voice. Poor Loveday flinched so hard she fell over. Dropping the book on her face.

"Hey, you didn't have to be so loud, I can hear you" Loveday got back up and brushed it off which had squished hard on her nose.

"Now look what you made me do" Lovedays voice muffled from the rubbing of her sore end.

"I want you to close that book and pay attention" Kell sternly spoke "Follow me".

"Fine" Loveday shook her head as she picked her book up and she quietly followed Kell back to the tree. As soon as they got there Kell started elucidating a few important things to Loveday as she held on to the book tightly.

"Be sure that you do exactly what that book tells you to do and make sure you don't fool about with it. No shortcuts" Kell lectured "and make sure you don't forget your secret word every time that you open it".

"No I won't" Loveday understood with her open mind "and with my new scian I'll be able to stop anyone from getting their hands on it. I suspected that if anyone who finds out what secrets this book has then it would be dangerous".

"You should be worried about that" Kell explained "whoever you decide to show this to you must do it with good judgement. Better beware like it said, if controlled by the wrong hands that book can destroy us all. Whatever you do, do not lose that book or give it to anyone, or else it may destroy us. Specially you".

"Destroy me?" Loveday questioned in fright "you mean like from what I experienced in my nightmare?".

"Yes, just like we spoke about. that's what could happen if you do not learn to properly control the power you have within you, otherwise you'll be at the mercy of it" Kell concluded.

"I'll…I'll try to not let that happen to me" Loveday promised, the thought of her new book being a weapon of evil made her horrendous, her excitement for reading her it had been replaced with stress. the memory of her nightmare did trigger a few anxieties. Maybe it was a bad idea to keep this magic book with her. She could be endangering the animals if they fell victim to her mistake in accepting this gift. Having telepathic powers was scary for them but having both her ring and book would double the amount of trouble.

"Oh Loveday please don't worry" Kell noticed her sad expression "why are you not pleased that you'll learn these great things, you said you wished to know more about magic didn't you? It's what your grandma would want for you".

"I don't want to disappoint her, it's just" Loveday sputtered "I'm afraid that if I don't pass as a feral psychic then what will happen to me in future?".

"You need to avoid disappointing yourself. That is all up to you" Kell finished as he stood up on his legs and stretched his back "Just believe in yourself then things will work out".

"But can't you tell me anything about the coming dangers I should be fighting?" Loveday got up, Kell had leapt up gracefully to one of the tree branches.

"I can't tell you everything Loveday, for if I did, they wouldn't happen, and it all needs to happen for a reason. Here's my last bit of advice for you, keep yourself warm this winter and stay focused on your powers".

"But Kell-" Loveday chased up to the branch, the fox soon jumped to the highest branch above her.

"No more buts until springtime Lovely" Kell said as he smiled proudly down to her "It's time for you to go and remember everything I told you".

"Wait…Kell wait!" Loveday stumbled, Kell had vanished from sight. Loveday tried to find him again, she did listen to his advice, but she didn't feel ready to part from him yet. Especially if it was going to be a long wait till spring for her to see him again.

"Kell please come back" Loveday murmured "What's happening to me? I can't move myself" her body suddenly went numb as she collapsed against the tree. Exhaustion then took all over her arms and legs. She tried to keep her eyes from closing, but it was all too great. The pleasant sounds of the dimension faded away along with everything surrounding the teenager until it all soon went out in smoke like the blowing of a candle.

The dark was all Loveday found herself in. It had seemed she was lost in her mind until a sudden warm feeling skipped across her bare skin. The tension of waking up ran through her blood stream.

A teeny yellow light started to glow in front of her, it was dancing on the walls and smelled all toasty everywhere.

"It feels cosy wherever I am now, but I don't care" Loveday thought happily "It's so peaceful and seeing that dancing flame of light makes me feel alive again".

"Why am I feeling comfortable?" Loveday sank softly into the sensation of a warm woolly surface. Smelling a hint of fresh soil, making her nostrils damp.

"I just can't bother, it feels like I am in bed, and I need a lie in after my rough night" Loveday tossed to turn on one side, where the light was looking more brighter, and her eyes squinted tightly without properly making out what were the strange flapping shapes it was making everywhere.

"Hssst Hssst Hssst Hssst!" A soft hissing repeated on and on. It was familiar. As Lovedays vision adjusted to clear volume, it all came back to her. All the time she was staring at her firepit from her nest bed. She was in her fox den!

Rubbing off her eyes Loveday yawned. "All the time I was sleeping, guess this bed is practical, nice and soft thanks to all this moss I collected. More sheep wool and feathers will make a bit better. Oh what am I thinking, I've just gotten my book and my scian so things will be looking up now".

"Where are my presents anyway?" while still in her bed she felt something hard and spiky underneath the woolly blankets cover. Reaching inside she found out that it was her book. Plus, she was still wearing the belt with her weapon.

"So here they are of all the places to look for them. And not the comfiest things to have in bed either" Loveday despised.

Managing to release herself from the belt and book she put them both on the old stall she used as her bedside table. As she finished taking care of that she looked back to the broken old pot, turned upside down with nothing but a snoring snake inside of it.

"So good to be hearing Adder snoring again" Loveday thanked giving the pot a look of unspoken love. It didn't annoy her a bit, every time she heard the snake hiss made it feel less lonely in her den, even when it was no bigger than a single sized room.

"Peace at last, may as well rest since I'll need to save my energy for studying my magic. I'll have to think about if I should show my book to Fox or anyone who can keep a secret. I wouldn't want the blue foxes to find out more about me, oh no I won't allow it" Loveday thought, after having a drink of boiled water she snuggled back up warmly into her nest. This was going to a long winter.

Closing her eyes, she began to drift off.

"LAAAAAAAA!"

"OHMYDARLINGWEASELYOURMYLITTLEBABYTHEMOSTLOVIESTIVEEVERSEENMYDARLINGWEASEL!"

Rosing herself up suddenly with her teeth grinding from the ear-shattering cacophony coming from outside and hands pressing on both ears. Loveday glared over at the entrance tunnel. Whoever was interrupting her peace was right by the door.

"Oh Bloody!" Loveday threw off her blanket and got out of bed. Quickly putting on her shoes when she went to the other side of the burrow.

"If that's who I think it is?" Loveday threatened as she stomped up the passageway, getting closer to finding the noise. The whole place was crumbling, and soil fell right into her hair. She even had to spit some out until she'd made it to the front door.

The vandals were still hanging outside, with help of her animal smell Loveday caught the scent from the other side. There was not one but two of them.

"Now you have made me angry" Loveday turned the handle, opening the door with sheer force. It was daytime outside and the light temporarily blinded her. Charging out of the doorway while trying to not let the cold bother her, she caught sight of the two who she smelt. Guess who it was?

"Weasel!" "Measly!" "Stop it!"

"Ohh dear, poor Loveday did we wake you?" Weasel teased, standing there trying to look innocent while Measly giggled next to her. Loveday wasn't fooled by them.

"What are you two doing?" Loveday asked sternly. Clinging herself firmly from the freezing temperature.

"I was singing to my gorgeous Weasel here, she's the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, oh I do love you" Measly showered her with endless compliments, apparently, he and Weasel were having a courtship together. Doing what they love best. Singing!

"Oh do you, well I think you're a handsome Weasel yourself, even if you are still a measly little twerp" Weasel returned, blinking her pretty little eyes.

"Can you two please just go away I'm tired, go bother somebody else" Loveday pleaded them as she began to shut the door "gosh it is getting cold, I can't believe they made me come up here. Weasels…".

"How rude of her, closing the door on us while we were hoping to see her, ta think that she's human" Weasel accused. Arms on her hips.

"Oh yes very rude" Measly nodded with his arms behind him "Hey I have something to cheer you up".

"Really? What have ya got?" Weasel begged, looking excited.

"Thought you might be hungry girl, TA-DA!" In his paw he proudly held a juicy plump worm to her.

"A grub!" Weasel snatched it off from him "Ta ever so". Measly was shunned, he had hoped to share it with her but Weasel gobbled it all up greedily.

"Mm Mmm…Got any more?" Weasel asked.

Measly shook his head sadly "Sorry".

"How useless you are, call yourself a man you're the worst weasel I ever met" turning her back on him, the she weasel walked off with her head in the air.

"Oh please wait for me, I'm sorry I'll get you more I promise. Please forgive me"

Inside the willow tree Loveday had been watching them through the door. She muttered to herself as she saw them leave her place.

"Some people never change" she sighed as she headed back down the passage to her cosy quarters.
