Rock opened his eyes to a familiar scene. blurry black and white pictures floated in the blackness around him, the only color being the red hair of the gunslinger. But... it was somehow different. A loud thud, almost like a heartbeat exploded through the blackness, causing the screens to shake and contort. Pain shot through his body.
Rock screamed in pain and fell to the ground, aftershocks of the severe trauma reverberating through him. Breathing heavily, he stood up, somewhat disheveled. He looked at the screens playing around him, and noticed a smaller one floating nearby, brighter than the rest. Somewhat puzzled, he shuffled over to it, though it seemed to move away with every step. He quickened his pace and was almost within arms length when another larger screen crashed down in front of it. He closed his eyes, unable to stop in time as he slammed into the larger scene.
Nothing. He opened his eyes to see an empty and dimly lit warehouse. The familiar yet unsettling lack of noise was almost deafening, so he shook it from his mind. Revy's face appeared around a corner, putting a finger to her lips before disappearing again. He nodded and began creeping toward her when he noticed something. A dim light shown through a nearly closed door.
Silently, he began to creep towards the door, peeking inside.
Inside the door was a long row of computers and desks, with maps and papers scrawled along every surface. He looked for any movement before nudging the door open. Slowly Rock moved toward the light, which emanated from a computer screen at the end of the room. Various lines of code flashed over the screen, making little sense to the Japanese man. He was about to turn around when he slipped, his hand smashing into the keyboard and hitting the esc key. The window displaying codes closed, and the screen turned red. Rock sat up to see a large circle with a skeletal dragon in flight. A floppy disk partially ejected from the computer, enticing Rock to grab it.
As soon as his fingers touched the hard plastic, another thunderous heartbeat exploded the silence around him, shooting wave upon wave of pain through his body. His eyes slammed shut as his legs gave way, slamming into the ground.
The pain began to subside, and he opened his eyes to the blackness around him. The screens still floated around him, but something was... off. The images flickered and jumped, sometimes even fading into static for a moment. Something caught his eye again, and he turned to see the same small screen as before, floating a few feet from him. Rock began to walk toward it, arm outstretched. The screen continued to move away, almost teasing him. Rock became frustrated and picked up speed, inching closer and closer. Soon he was at a dead sprint, the images around him nothing but blurs as he ran after his elusive prize.
Another heartbeat. Rock's legs gave out and he collapsed, sliding along the ground as more pain tore through his very being. The sound of shattering glass echoed around him and his eyes snapped shut.
He opened them again to see Revy kneeling with him behind a pile of crates. She shot him a dirty look before standing up and firing her pistols over the box. The flash of gunfire was unsettling in the silence, and he could see bullets whizzing past her as she fired. 'What the hell is going on?' He thought, looking around. Suddenly the silence was broken by the sound of metal bouncing on pavement. He turned to see a small cylinder skitter to a halt between revy's legs. Rock's eyes widened, realizing the purpose of the device.
He lunged forward, shoving the redhead out of the way and grasping the device firmly. He stood up, his arm drawn back to throw the fla-
The deafening sound of a heartbeat erupted through his mind, and his shoulder exploded in a cloud of blood and pain. Everything went black.
The blackness surrounding him seemed darker than before, more... sinister. He lay on the ground, watching as another of the ominous screens floated by overhead. It was flickering badly, skipping and going in and out of static. 'Whats going on?' He wondered, sitting up. Rock looked around at the other images, noticing a few had shattered on the ground. A light to the left of him caught his attention, and he turned to see the small screen again, bright as ever.
Bu-bum.
Another wave of blinding pain wracked his body, and he grasped at his side. his hands came back bloody. He forced his eyes open, and rolled out of the way as one of the larger screens careened into the ground, shattering. 'What the hell just happened?' He thought. The small screen floated in front of him, and he shuffled toward it once more, determination burning in his eyes.
Bu-bum.
Another arc of pain brought him to his knees, but he got back up, pushing toward the little flickering screen. The sound of shattering glass only forcing him to move faster.
Bu-bum.
Rock grimaced, the pain almost unbearable, but he kept on, sprinting toward the light. Moving closer every second.
Bu-bum.
Everything was falling now, the air filled with the sound of a million windows breaking.
Bu-bum.
So much pain. His body was giving out, his mind the only thing keeping him from collapsing in agony.
Bu-bum.
Just a little more...
Bu-bum.
His vision began to blur.
Bu-bum.
So close...
Bu-bum.
Re was at his limit, his mind failing from the amount of pain screaming through him. He lunged forward, using every ounce of energy he had left to jump toward the only thing still intact. His fingers brushed against it, and darkness once again enveloped him.
The smell of copper and gunpowder assaulted Rock's nostrils, the sound of gunfire filled his ears. A dimly lit hospital hallway slowly focused into view. 'Here again? Why?' He thought as his feet moved forward subconsciously. Maniacal laughter filled the air and he turned the corner to see Revy firing at blackness.
A wave of wooziness overcame his head and the walls around him began to distort, fading away to reveal only blackness. Revy turned to face him, tears running down her cheeks. A wave of fear washed over him as his hand lifted to point a gun at her, with Revy returning in kind, taking a step closer. The tiles in the floor seemed to start fading as he watched the gunslinger move ever closer.
"please... please don't leave me"
Rock was so lightheaded, and his vision began to blur. He could hear a heartbeat begin to slow down. The pistol he held in his hands was shaking uncontrollably, barely even aimed at the redhead anymore. 'Is that my heartbeat?' He thought, his vision beginning to black out in some spots. He dropped the pistol in his hand, not even hearing it hit the floor.
Rock fell to his knees, His mind beginning to falter. 'Whats going... am I dying?' He thought, his heartbeat growing slower with each beat. There was no other sound.
Something metal hit the ground with a thud, and he looked down to see a silver cutlass hit the floor. Moments later something warm enveloped him. He could hear something else now, feel it. another heartbeat, struggling to bring his back up to speed.
Revy was kneeling in front of him, her arms held tightly around him.
"Please... Please don't leave me."
Rock took as deep a breath, using the last of his strength to put his arms around the girl holding him so tightly. The last of his voice billowed up in his throat.
"I... I won't, Revy."
He held tightly to the redhaired girl as light enveloped them both.
