Part 9
A while after Jane and Daria split up Jane had returned to the cave with their capsule house and buried the Dragonball they stole from Frieza nearby. While she was waiting outside and admiring the strange blue green grass of Namek she heard a beeping noise coming from her jacket pocket.
Unfamiliar with the "Dragon radar" as Bulma had called it took her a moment to remember what it was that was beeping. She took the device out of her pocket and hit a button. The screen came to life and showed a single blinking dot a few miles away.
She raised an eyebrow and and said to herself, "That's odd there weren't any dragon balls nearby before?"
"I don't sense anybody over there hmm I should probably wait for Daria, but that's not too far from here." After a moment of thought she turned and immediately took to the air and headed for it being careful to stay low and suppress her ki. After a few minutes she arrived over a small lake and hovered over where the radar indicated the ball to be.
She frowned slightly and said to herself, "Bottom of the lake eh? Well it's not like it's cold outside, more like late spring. Oh well it's not a big lake might as well give it a shot." She hovered there about to dive in when she realized that soaking her clothes might not be the best idea so she flew over to the nearest shore and landed.
Jane looked around and did a thorough search for nearby ki's which she didn't detect for miles around her, "Good nobody's around. The last thing I need is some alien pervert getting a free show."
She quickly disrobed with her clothes going haphazardly into a pile at her feet. Once that was done she wasted no time lingering and quickly flew over to where the Dragon ball was and lowered herself into the lake.
Not that she was overly prudish or anything she had skinny dipped plenty of times in her life. However this planet did have a plethora of evil aliens running around it and the last thing she needed was for one to get the wrong idea and try to lay eggs in her stomach or something.
Jane treaded water for a moment just to be sure the water wasn't going to melt her or anything and once she was satisfied it wasn't ice cold nor acid she took a deep breath and dove.
Once under she used her ki to help propel her quickly away from the warm water near the surface toward the colder water near the bottom which happened to be deeper than she expected, "Damn it's cold down here why didn't I bring a wetsuit with me?"
Jane eventually reached the bottom of the lake and saw the dragon ball glowing softly in the darkness as it sat on bottom with some surprisingly normal looking alien fish swimming around it.
"What those don't look that alien. I mean we have some crazy looking fish on Earth I half expected it to be surrounded by facehuggers or radioactive crabs. Ah well boring is good at the moment considering the alternative."
She quickly grabbed it and returned to the surface which was a lot warmer. Once there she poked her head above water to quickly look around. Satisfied that she was still alone she lifted herself above the water, and shivered as she floated to shore covered in goosebumps.
Once she was near her pile of clothes Jane dropped the dragonball on the shore while she carefully hovered over her pile as she didn't want to land and get dirt all over her. So she quickly dressed in the air which was harder than you would think but once that was done she felt her body begin to warm up again.
She glanced back to the lake and muttered, "Next time I'm bringing a towel and a wetsuit." as she grabbed the dragonball and headed off toward the capsule house.
Miles away Daria and Dende landed on a tall column of rock that rose into the sky like a giant pillar at the top of which sat a two story stone domed Namekian house. Before either of them could approach the entrance a tall Namekian who somewhat resembled Piccolo stepped out in a white and purple gi. His face even seemed to have the same angry scowl.
Dende turned to Daria and said, "This is Nail our strongest warrior and protector of Guru our leader."
Daria groaned inside once she sense this Namekians power, "Great this guy is way stronger than me and even with the Kaioken I might not be able to beat him. Well I guess it's good that I am such a people person, after all I am friends with all of what two or three people? Maybe I'll get lucky and he won't hate me right off the bat."
Nail cooly spoke in an authoritative voice, "Dende are you not aware that aliens have arrived and are stealing our Dragon balls and killing our people? So why did you see fit to tell this one about Lord Guru?"
Daria frowned, "Well so much for being lucky. At this rate I'm starting to think the universe has it in for me."
Dende replied to the taller Namekian, "The aliens you speak of attacked my village and wiped it out however the only reason I'm alive is because of Daria and her friend Jane. They risked their lives against overpowering foes to save me and the Dragon ball."
Nail rolled his eyes, "Great so they have one of our Dragon balls, just great. That brings me back to my question, why are you here." This time he eyed Daria.
Daria replied neutrally, "Me and my friend Jane are from a planet called Earth. A few months ago a couple of aliens affiliated with the ones attacking you now attacked us and we were barely able to defeat them. Our Kami also died as a result so we used his ship to travel here in hopes of using your Dragon balls to bring him back to life along with my father and another Namekian warrior who helped us in the fight."
She paused a moment before continuing, "We didn't know what was happening here till we arrived, but we do know who is attacking you."
Nail looked on skeptically, "You do?"
"Yes his name is Frieza and he's an evil tyrant in this galaxy, I don't know what he wants to wish for but whatever it is can't be good."
"So what do you plan to do about it you're nowhere near his power."
Daria glared at him for questioning her resolve like that, "I'm aware we are not strong enough to take him on, however we have one Dragon ball hidden. If we can somehow keep it that way until we find a way to stop him we can keep him from his wish."
Nail closed his eyes and thought for a moment, before opening them and replying, "Well you do seem passionate about this, and you did save Dende at great risk, so I will allow you to talk with Lord Guru."
Daria sighed in relief, "Thank you."
"But don't try anything funny."
"Trust me that's the last thing on my mind."
Afterward all three walked inside.
Helen solemnly walked down Dega street in Lawndale on her way to Jake's Dojo. Nostalgia had her lost in memories of her ex husband so upon arriving at the door she wasn't paying attention and tried her key in the lock, however to her surprise the door was open. She quickly looked up and the sign hanging in the door was on the open side, "Oh no Jake you left it unlocked."
Helen quickly made her way inside thinking the place would have been looted in the time that had passed, but was surprised to see the lights were on and everything was where it should be. She then noticed a young African American male in a white gi behind the desk. He looked up and smiled, "Hello Miss can I help you?"
Slightly taken aback Helen replied, "Uh hello I'm Helen Morgendorffer, Jake's ex wife."
Mack stood up and made his way toward her, "Oh I'm sorry I didn't recognize you, I don't think we've ever met. I'm Mack Mackenzie I help out Jake with the dojo."
Helen quickly recovered from her confusion and asked skeptically, "Oh and you've been here for the last two months? Didn't you think it was odd that Jake hadn't shown up in all that time?!"
Mack was slightly taken aback by her escalating tone, and quickly replied, "I know what you're thinking but Jake left me with specific instructions in case this happened." Mack opened a drawer and pulled out a letter.
"Mack he's dead!", Helen practically shouted at him.
To her surprise the young man didn't seem phased by the revelation at all and simply added, "I know Daria told me afterward." Mack made his way back to the desk and pulled out an envelope from one of the drawers then walked over to Helen and handed it to her, "Here, Jake said the letter would explain everything. I'll go and check the sidewalk for cracks while you read it."
Helen looked at the letter and then back to Mack and added, "Well don't worry about that I think you can just stay right here. You obviously know more about him than I thought."
She looked it over and noticed the seal was notarized so that it couldn't have been opened already. The signature on the back was signed "Traube" she inhaled sharply as she was taken aback to when she met Traube.
A young Helen was with her friends the Yeagers and Jon when a meteor fell from the sky and impacted not too far from the Three Oaks commune in northern California one night in 1975. Even though they were high as kites they quickly ran over to see what it was. Needless to say they were shocked when it turned out to be a spherical spaceship of some kind and a young man with spiky hair stepped out of it. Her friend Willow was the first to speak as she yelled, "Are you a Leprechaun?!"
The confused alien in his Saiyan armor simply yelled back, "What the hell is a Leprechaun?!"
Helen quickly opened the letter and looked it over. The gist was an explanation that if he died not to worry Daria or Jane would go and find something called the Dragonballs and wish him back. He mentioned that they already had to use them on Jane once so he knew that they worked. He said Mack can mind the shop while he's gone and that could be for a while depending if the Dragonballs had been used within the last year. He also mentioned Mack might know more, and to not give him a hard time.
He signed it with "Though we have our differences I'll always love you Jake."
Helen started sobbing a bit and Mack quickly gave her a tissue. She thanked him and took a moment to collect herself, "That sweet insufferable man.
Once collected she turned to Mack, "Ok so is Daria still collecting these Dragonballs he's talking about?"
Mack unsure of what Helen would think of this simply launched into the weird situation he found himself in, "Well a week or so after the fight Daria called and said that she was told by somebody called King Kai who in a place called Otherworld that Jake was there and that you should be able to contact him direct via a prayer." He then gave his best I'm not crazy face.
Helen looked at him incredulously, "Seriously?"
"Uh yeah."
"And where was Daria at the time?"
"She said Bulma Briefs picked her up after the fight and she was staying there recovering."
Helen backed up in surprise, "Wait THE Bulma Briefs of Capsule Corp!"
"The one and only."
Helen exhaled and then looked to Mack and said, "Well it's been awhile since I've done this." she then looked at the ceiling and reluctantly added, "King Kai, it's Helen Morgendorffer are you there?"
Out on in Otherworld one of King Kai's antennae perked up while he watched his students meditate near a tree next to the road near his domed yellow house, "Hello? Helen is that you?"
Helen paled at the voice in her head and looked at Mack who asked, "Did he answer?"
"Yes he did."
"Helen Morgendorffer?" The voice asked again.
"Yes that is me." Helen added out loud.
"Oh good. Who was that other voice."
"It was Jake's assistant Mack."
"Oh ok hold on let me conference him in."
"Wait you can do that?"
Both Helen and Mack could hear him now like a disembodied voice in the room, "Of course I can I'm a Kai."
Mack asked, "Oh well ok…. So does that mean you are a god?"
"Well yes and no, technically I am a Kaioshin."
Mack scratched his head, "Uh ok that helps I think."
"Right, hold on I'll get Jake." King Kai then turned toward Jake and shouted, "Jake! Your wife's on the phone."
Jake looked up confused, "Wait there's a phone here?"
"No you dolt I'm telepathic now get over here and put your hand on my shoulder."
Helen quickly added, "Uh ex wife actually."
The Kai rolled his eyes, "Uh huh sure it is. I think the correct phase is "It's complicated" deity remember?"
Mack quickly looked down at a VERY interesting crack in the floor while Helen blushed.
Jake put his hand on the Kai should and said, "Helen you there?"
"Yes and so is Mack."
Mack added, "Hey Jake how's the um afterlife."
Jake looked around, "Not what I expected that's for sure. King Kai great and all and Piccolo's here too."
Mack and Helen both looked shocked before Helen added, "Wait The Demon King Piccolo?! Jake, are you in hell!"
Jake grimaced at the shouting before he replied, "Oh no this is the good afterlife he got in because he helped me save the Earth and he's sorta not a demon just a Namekian, uh so it's complicated."
Helen shook her head and regained her composure then asked in her lawyer voice, "Ok well since that's out of the way where is Daria in all of this."
King Kai chuckled, "Ooo somebody's in trouble."
Jake glared at the Kai and replied, "Well since Piccolo's dead that means Kami is dead as they used to be the same person so the Dragonballs on Earth are inert since he made them. But that's ok as Daria is on planet Namek as we speak so she can use their Dragonballs to bring us back."
"Wait Daria's out in space somewhere? How?!" Helen replied with surprise.
"Well Kami came originally came to Earth in a spaceship so Bulma it found and fixed it up. Hey isn't it great that Daria knows Bulma now, I mean she's so loaded!"
Helen facepalmed, "Yes and she sent our eldest daughter to another planet."
"Aw come on I don't want to be dead forever! It's boring here!"
"What!" King Kai shouted out.
Jake immediately backpedaled,"Oh no I didn't mean it like that….. It's just there's no uh tv or pizza or booze. Besides we need to wish Piccolo back so Kami can come back to life."
King Kai crossed his arms in a huff, "Pfft ungrateful." as Piccolo immediately opened his eyes and yelled, "Hey don't bring me into your little argument!"
Mack confused at all of this asked, "Wait I thought you were god and Kami is another word for god so how many gods are there up there?"
King Kai sighed before he replied, "Ok here's the free theology lesson of the day. Kami is the god of Earth, I am the god of the North Galaxy, and Shin my boss is the god of universe D-2163. Oh yeah and the multiverse is a thing so update your physics books."
Both Helen and Mack raised an eyebrow at that. Then Helen seemingly unphased continued, "Interesting lesson, but back to the point. Can I talk to Daria?"
King Kai looked over at Jake and said, "Oh wow she's good. You said she was a lawyer might need her help sometime, not a lot of those up here."
Helen narrowed her eyes at the oh so common trope about lawyers not getting into heaven, "Ah ha very cute." while Mack tried not to smile.
"Ouch ok tough crowd." King Kai moved his other antennae to find Namek. "Got it now lets see….. Ah there it is….Wait a minute…... that's…." King Kai face contorted to terror, "Uh Helen I have to go uh the Shin is calling can't let him wait, talk to you later bye…."
And just like that the connection was lost. Helen was stunned for a minute till what happened sunk in and then she glared at Mack before exploding, "And what the hell was that? Did he hang up on me! He looked at this Namek and noticed there's something wrong then he cuts me off and blames it on his boss! That is so just like Eric! He knows something is wrong and he just doesn't want to tell me."
Mack winced under her death gaze, "Well maybe he has a good reason you know being a god and all."
Helen pointed at the ceiling, "He better if these Kaoshin know what's good for them."
Meanwhile on King Kai's planet King Kai moved away from Jake fuming, "No no NO! Dammit you jerks are going to be here forever!"
Jake protested, "What? But I have a dojo to run!"
Piccolo jumped up at the outburst and yelled, "I have a world to con…. Uh…. meditation to do. on Earth…. specifically."
Goku just shrugged, "I don't care I live here."
"No you don't understand Frieza is on Namek!"
Jake paled in fear, "What! Frieza is there! Oh my god! Quick we have to warn Daria!"
King Kai perked up, "Right. On it."
Daria was walking into the antechamber of Guru's throne room when King Kai called to her, "Daria I have urgent news! You're in danger! Frieza's on Namek."
Daria scoffed, "Oh now you tell me, we've only known that since arriving."
"You what?"
"Listen I'm about to tell Guru that I need his help so I'll have to talk to you later." Daria then forced the connection to her mind to break.
King Kai just lowered his antennae, "What the hell?"
Jake anxiously asked, "Well what did she say."
King Kai at a loss just added, "She said she knew and was busy. I think your daughter just hung up on me, she hung up on god! Do you know how rude that is!"
Jake narrowed his eyes, "Hmfp sounds like her all right."
Once the Kai was out of her head Daria got a good look at Lord Guru's throne room she noted that he was a tall old obese looking Namekian who sat on a shiny white stone throne that towered above her and on the top of which sat one of the Namekian Dragonballs.
Lord Guru looked at her with piercing eyes before he spoke in a low gravely voice, "Nail what is the meaning of this. Is that one of the off worlders who are ravaging my people? I can sense a slight darkness within her."
Nail was taken aback by Guru's concerns but he replied sternly, "No Lord Guru. She claims no affiliation with them and even saved Dende here from death." Dende nodded in as Nail continued, 'She also says she knows who is behind it and wants to help though for a price."
Guru's features hardened, "For a price? We have nothing of value as you can see so why would you offer to help."
Daria replied as diplomatically as she could, "Please Lord Guru I mean no disrespect however our Guardian Kami on Earth passed on after two aliens affiliated with the ones here landed and killed my father, and a Namekian named Piccolo in defense of my world. Piccolo was linked to Kami and he died as a result. I came here to ask if we could use your Dragonballs to restore our Kami to life so our Dragonballs would once again function."
"You aren't the only one in search of our Dragonballs it seems."
"Yes once we arrived we sensed a strong power on this planet one that me and my friend Jane sought out. Unfortunately we found out that the one who is attacking you is a vicious tyrant known as Lord Frieza. He rules much of the galaxy ruthlessly. My father was enslaved by him before he escaped and fled from his rule decades ago before settling on Earth.
Guru sighed, "This does not bode well for my people at all. What happened after you sought him out."
"Unfortunately we didn't have the power to stop him or his men but we did manage to rescue Dende and steal the Dragonball he was after. Which Jane is hiding as we speak."
Guru turned his head to face the young Namekian, "Is what this other worlder is saying true Dende?"
"Yes Lord Guru. The one known as Frieza was himself just seconds away from killing me in retaliation for our elders defiance when suddenly Daria and her friend selflessly dazed them all with a ki attack and flew off with me and the Dragonball."
Nail wasn't convinced by their story and added with venom, "You mean to tell me you simply flew away? Strange how somebody as powerful as this Lord Frieza didn't simply follow you. How do we know that you're not deceiving us by coming here offering to help."
Daria was taken aback by Nails accusation but Dende answered, "I wondered the same thing until I remembered that they were tracking us with a device of some kind. Our elder destroyed them and they needed him to tell them where the next village was. They can't sense energy."
Nail just replied with, "Hmph." To which Daria continued, "Most people on Earth can't sense energy either save for a few of us. Though they could learn. I take it since you Namekians learn ki control at an early age you're unaccustomed to people who can't sense energy?"
Guru replied, "Yes I have forgotten that most otherworlders can't. It has been a long time since I've traveled off world and most of my people are too young to remember the time when we traveled the stars. This could be very useful."
After a moment of contemplation Guru asked, "So you plan to hide the Dragonballs then. Surely this Frieza will not just grow bored and leave on his own."
Daria sternly replied, "Of course he won't. But it'll give us time to think of something and maybe deplete his forces. He wishes for immortality, and I don't have to tell you what would happen if he got it. Even if we all die at least we can deny him that."
"What you say is true and I would give my life before I would allow anyone to misuse my creations. I would normally take time to think your offer over however time is not something I have in abundance. If you succeed I'll allow you to wish your Guardian back though I'll only allow Dende to make the actual wish."
Guru reached up and grabbed the Dragonball from its small pedestal on top of his throne, "Come here young one."
Daria walked over to the right side of Guru's throne and the elder Namekian handed her the Dragonball. He then however placed his hand on her head.
"Oh god he's not going to pat me on the head like a child is he?"
The elder Namekian spoke, "I sense a great power in you and I can unlock a fraction of it for you to help you with your task. Though you must strive to use it wisely. I can sense a great desire for justice in you that outweighs the darkness from your heritage in your soul. Use that as your guide in life."
"Oh great not him too. First Kami and now him what am I some Shakespearean anti hero…" Her thoughts were interrupted by Guru as he unleashed her power which hit her like a flood. From the outside a blue aura erupted from her body in the shape of a pillar of blue light.
Her only thought at the experience was, "Holy shit!"
Vegeta flew high in the clouds still thrilled about Dodoria's demise when he felt a strong power in the distance. "The hell? I wonder who that is? Eh no matter I'll kill whomever it is soon enough." Then after a moment he sensed someone else powering up a lot closer to him though much closer to the ground. He quickly powered up and began to drop out of the air.
Jane was flying low over the terrain with the Dragonball she pulled out of the lake when suddenly she sensed Daria's ki spike. Strangely she thought it spiked higher than normal. "Shit she must be in a fight I need to hide this ball and….
Her thought was cut off by Vegeta's ki spiking high in the clouds. "Crap Vegeta's here too! I need to hide."
She quickly dropped to the ground and hid in a crevice while she suppressed her ki.
Vegeta meanwhile dropped to a few hundred feet and looked around. Obviously whomever it was was hiding. He growled and quickly raised a hand as he summoned a basketball sized ki ball and shouted, "Hey I know you're here so whomever you are you had better come out unless you want me turning this place into a barren wasteland!" He glanced at the boring endless plains all around him grinning, "So basically the same but on fire!"
Jane quickly hid the Dragonball in the crevice as Vegeta started counting before she rose up out of it to a hover about ten feet up. She then figured what the hell and called out cheerfully, "Hey Vegeta nice day out!"
Vegeta was mid throw on his ki ball when the Saiyan girls pet called to him which stunned him for a moment, "The Human? What the seven hells is she doing here?!
Jane landed on the ground away from the crevice while Vegeta did the same. "Ok sitrep I have a murderous Saiyan flying slowly toward me and I think I just stole his Dragonball so I better think of something quick." Her mind immediately drew a blank, "Great. You're not helping brain. So not helping.
Vegeta smirked and spoke, "Well if it isn't that half Saiyan bitches pet human. How did you get here anyway. Last I heard your pathetic race could just barely leave the planet."
Jane stammered out, "Uh vacation?"
"Vacation uh, what to this dump? Ha thats rich! They don't even have… well… anything actually. They're just a bunch of damn farmers! So what are you really doing? Let me guess thwarting my plans?"
Jane replied with surprise, "What?"
"Are you?"
"No."
"Good! Otherwise I would have to kill you."
Jane added nervously, "Well that would be bad."
Vegeta shrugged, "For you maybe. For me, well I could go either way. But lucky for you I'm in a good mood today. See I just killed a bunch of Frieza's weakling men, stole a Dragonball, and I'll soon have the rest. So remember that the next time you happen to see me, I'll be immortal."
Jane just looked at the grinning Saiyan with wide eyed shock, "Uh ok well see you around then Vegeta."
Vegeta then half turned to leave before stopping, "Oh one more thing."
Jane raised an eyebrow as she replied, "Yeah?"
Vegeta then punched her hard in the stomach quicker than she could follow which knocked her breath out. She doubled over as he continued, "That was for you peasants trying to kill me." A blue aura engulfed him just before he rocketed in the sky laughing.
Jane stood back up after a moment as she caught her breath. "I'm so going to kill that dick if I can help it."
Frieza floated halfway to the ceiling on his ship's command desk and gazed out of the huge round window that was mounted along the outer circular hull. Behind and to the right stood Zarbon with a neutral expression on his face. In front of both on the deck sat four Dragonballs which resembled Earth's Dragonballs in every way except size as each one was about the size of a basketball.
The window afforded Frieza a nice view of the blue green landscaped dotted by q tip shaped trees. Frieza internally balked at the seemly idyllic paradise, "I don't understand these Namekians. They're not exactly pushovers compared to the other weaklings and they've had this bountiful planet all to themselves for god know how long, and what do they do with it? Conquer other planets? No. Bother to industrialize? No. Instead they just sit around and garden, even though they apparently don't have to eat! Like they all live in some planet wide tree hugging commune! It makes me sick just to think of it!"
His frown then turned into a slight smile, "Though once I have my immortality maybe I can force some of the competent ones to my side before I have the planet purged. That would be nice. Speaking of which what the hell is taking so..."
Frieza's train of thought was interrupted when one of his human like soldiers burst into the room, "Lord Frieza! I have a report from the scouts!"
Frieza didn't move at all to acknowledge the man as he replied, "Go on."
"We are still searching for the two aliens who attacked us, however Cui and Dodoria are confirmed dead."
The minion cringed as Frieza spun around and yelled, "What! How?"
"Uh Vegeta was spotted in the area, we think he's gone rogue."
"You think?!"
"Uh well a team of us tried to approach him however he attacked us so we fled. I barely got away."
Frieza glared at the minion, "So let me get this straight you've failed to find the last three Dragonballs, failed to find the TWO aliens who look nothing like the Namekian trash infesting this place, AND you think Vegeta can best Dodoria in a fight, one of my best men by the way, then you actually FOUND Vegeta but were too pathetic to do anything about it! Do I have everything right?"
The minion coward in fear, "Yes sir I'm sorry sir we'll try harder!"
Frieza raised his hand and pointed a single finger at the man as he growled, "Damn useless cowards. No I think you actually won't."
The minion just saw a tiny point of red light before he was vaporized by the tyrant's pencil thin crimson ki beam.
Frieza then turned to face Zarbon who was trying to look composed at his sudden outburst, and calmly stated, "You know what Zarbon I'm starting to think my people don't understand what I pay them for…"
Zarbon deadpanned as best he could with his effeminate voice, "You don't pay us sir."
Frieza continued harshly, "Allow them to live for. I mean this was supposed to be an easy show up and steal some filthy wish dragon from a bunch of primitive bumpkins side trip. But no, first Cui's dead, then we lost all of our scouters, and now Dodoria's dead. You know if this shit goes any further south it'll make me look like some tinpot despot instead of the feared ruler of this galaxy! And for your sakes that best not happen."
Zarbon flinched back in fear, "Oh no sir that won't happen, what should you have me do?"
Frieza glared at him, "Simple, first pull up your frilly stockings, man up, and go kill Vegeta and or anybody else who happens to show up and get in my way!"
Zarbon stood a straight as he could while he replied, "Uh, yes sir! On it now."
Frieza calmed down and added, "Oh and Zarbon it would be quite good for your health if you were finished within the hour."
Zarbon quickly dashed from the room and took to the air while Frieza just smirked and added, "It's nice to see what a little motivation can do for someone."
Frieza turned around to look at a bank of consoles on the right side of the bridge, "Then again this search would go a lot faster if we had some new scouters, and maybe some warm bodies to boot." Frieza grinned, "I wonder what the Ginyu force is up too right about now."
"Man Frieza's really pissed off." Zarbon thought as he tore through the idyllic Namekian sky. He was frantically looking every which way in hopes of spotting the short spikey haired Saiyan the old fashion way since he didn't have a scouter.
"Damn this is hard., honestly he could be anywhere on this planet, and if he's not just flying around like a jackass…."
Just at that moment Zarbon felt a hard kick crash into his back which sent him flying toward the ground. However as he tumbled he managed to ignore the pain and stop his descent before he hit. Zarbon then looked up and he could see the silhouette of Vegeta with his arms crossed as the smug Saiyan floated with the sun to his back.
Once Vegeta saw that Zarbon finally noticed him he called out triumphantly, "Well look who's just flying around like a jackass. Zarbon, did Frieza get tired of having your head up his ass back on the ship?"
Zarbon figuring the little prick was going to mock him just grinned menacingly as Vegeta floated down to his level, "Very funny Vegeta. I'll have you know that Frieza sent me to come and take care of you."
"Oh did he finally get tired of all his minions getting killed?"
Zarbon frowned, "Doubtful, were talking about Fieza after all. He'd kill us all just to get ahold of one Dragonball."
Vegeta raised an eyebrow, "And yet oddly enough you're still on his side."
Zarbon glared a bit, "Because I'm not stupid Vegeta. Unlike you I understand the natural order of things and Frieza is at the top. Go against him? Hmph are you insane? Might as well try to breath in space, which he can also do oddly enough."
Vegeta scoffed, "Please that stupid lizard can't be all that powerful, you cowards just haven't tried hard enough."
"Well I see you just as delusional as the rest of your dead race. Now he wasn't too specific about dealing with you so are you going to come quietly or am I going to have to make you scream."
Vegeta rolled his eyes, "Oh please like you could intimidate anybody with that weird effeminate manner of yours. One punch from me and you will be screaming like Dodoria did."
Zarbon scoffed while brushing a lock of his long hair out of his eyes, "Oh god, don't even compare me to that idiot. Dodoria couldn't even hold a candle to my power. I don't know how you managed to kill him, but I'm assuming you just got lucky. Or Dodoria was just that stupid."
"Luck had nothing to do with it. It was all pure skill, and if you want a piece feel free to try to take me the prince of all Saiyans down."
Zarbon didn't bother responding to Vegeta's bravado as he immediately charged the arrogant prince and threw a punch, however Vegeta dodged to the right and grabbed his outstretched arm. He looked on in shock as Vegeta flung him to his right through the air like he was nothing.
"What is this? Vegeta could never follow my attacks before?"
Before he could even say anything Vegeta phased right behind him and backhanded him face first into the ground. The force from the impact caused Zarbon slide a few feet before he stopped. The light blue man got up quickly as Vegeta landed nearby yelling, "Face down on the ground with another man pounding your ass, is it Tuesday already Zarbon."
Zarbon wiped some blood away from his face, "Cute warm up Vegeta, however you have no idea what you're getting yourself into once you see my true power you will tremble before me."
Vegeta scoffed, "You've got to be kidding me! Ever since I got here all I've seemed to do is slaughter you cretins. First Qui, then a bunch of your worthless soldiers, Dodoria and now you!"
Zarbon gave a confident smirk, "Well think what you wish if it makes you feel better at night, but Dodoria is hardly a goal post in my book. It doesn't matter anyway, I hope you have had fun trying to rise above your station because the fun stops here."
Vegeta rolled his eyes as Zarbon spread his arms out and cried out. His graceful body bulked up significantly with the resulting muscle mass completely erasing the graceful form he had once possessed. Once his transformation was complete Zarbon added, "Is this powerful enough for you prince?"
Vegeta's eyes went wide as he sensed Zarbon's ki increase significantly higher than his own, and as the beast he became powered up and charged him all he could say was a surprised, "Oh my god!"
Zarbon laughed as he hit Vegeta in the face with enough force to throw the prince's head back before he followed it up by kneeing the Saiyan in the stomach. As Vegeta doubled over Zarbon grabbed his head with both hands and headbutted him twenty feet through the air until the arrogant prince hit the ground like a ragdoll.
Vegeta still dazed coughed up a bit of blood and slowly got up while Zarbon added in a gravelly voice that fit his current form, "You know what? You are really pathetic Vegeta, sure you talk a bit game but in the end you are just another piece of Saiyan trash waiting to be consigned to the dustbin of history just like the rest of your barbaric race."
Vegeta seethed with rage desperately as he held out both hands in front of him toward the smug creature, "I don't care how much stronger you are! For that you'll die here by my hand!" as he formed a ball of crimson between his hands that increased in brightness as he poured every ounce of his power into it before he yelled, "Big bang attack!"
Zarbon took a step back and braced his arms over his head as Vegeta unleashed a torrent of energy which flew toward him as a crimson beam the bottom of which ore at the very ground around it. The beam crashed into Zarbon with great force which started to push him back a little until he could brace himself. While he held back the force of the attack he took him a moment to focus his ki and threw himself out of the beam which continued unimpeded out to the horizon burning a five foot wide trench along the way.
Quickly Zarbon quickly flew in an arc to where Vegeta stood and kicked him in the chest while the later focused on his attack simply couldn't defend.
The blow both stunned and threw Vegeta up into the air as Zarbon rocketed above him trailing a blue aura at great speed before he fired his own ball of crimson energy. Once Vegeta hit the apogee of his trajectory and began to fall Zarbon's ball of energy hit him with great force which knocked him into a nearby hill.
Once the dust cleared Vegeta laid bloody and unconscious on the ground while Zarbon landed nearby. The light blue alien then reverted to his thinner elegant form, and added with a smile, "Well that's the end of that."
He approached the broken prince and rolled him over with his boot. This caused the fallen Saiyan let out a groan and Zarbon's eyes brightened, "Still alive it seems. Fancy that, maybe Frieza will have some questions for you before he ends your pathetic existence in what I hope is the most painful way possible."
Zarbon reached down and grabbed the unconscious Saiyan's damaged white armor with one hand before he flew off back toward Frieza's ship.
Jane had sensed Vegeta's fight and defeat at the hands of a more powerful opponent. With him out of the picture she raced to Daria's location as fast as she could without using too much energy.
"I know they can't sense energy, but it's those scouters I'm worried about." Jane thought as he overactive imagination ran wild at the thought of Frieza attacking.
Jane started her descent to a tall column of rock that rose into the sky like a giant pillar, and at the top of which sat a two story stone domed Namekian house. Just as she landed Daria, Dende, and a tall Namekian who looked sorta like Piccolo exited the white stone house.
Jane spoke up as she walked over, "Daria I felt your power skyrocket, is everything alright?"
Daria motioned to Dende who was holding another Dragonball, "It's ok Jane Guru awoke some of my hidden power after he gave me his Dragonball for safe keeping." She then pointed to Jane's Dragon ball, "Weren't you supposed to hide that? Did something happen?"
Jane laughed, "Oh yeah something happened alright. I hid the one we had near the cave, however the dragon radar picked up this bad boy. So I went for a little swim and retrieve it, but on my way back ran into Vegeta."
Daria's looked on in surprise at this revelation because she was unharmed and here to talk about it and not dead in a ditch somewhere, "Let me guess you're actually dead and I'm looking at your ghost."
The taller raven haired girl continued, "Well not quite that bad. Anyway I quickly hid the ball and decided to fly up and confront him since we was only threatening to burn down the whole country side to flush me out." Jane laughed slightly, "Funny thing is I think I shocked him more than he shocked me."
Daria added, "Surprised to see us so soon I take it?"
"Yeah he said we were too primitive to travel the stars and demanded to know how and why we were here. So told him it was a vacation and he actually seemed to buy it."
Daria frowned, "It's got to be a trick there's no way he's that stupid. He must think we're not a threat to him." She tried to sense him but couldn't so she added, "Hmm must be suppressing his power. Damn I was hoping he wouldn't have figured that out."
Jane laughed, "Yeah that's probably not a good thing at all, but after he told me about how happy he was to find a Dragonball he said he'd let me live. Then warned me that the next time he found us he'd be immortal. So yeah big dreams that man has."
"Immortality huh well that's not going to help him much if Frieza is still stronger than him."
Jane looked a bit confused, "How so? I mean if he can't be killed…"
"Think about it Jane if Vegeta can't be killed then Frieza can just torture him as much as he wants. Forever."
Jane's eyes went wide as it sank in,"Holy shit. I mean the guy's an asshole and we should probably kill him, but eternal torture is just wow, dark."
"I agree. Well that also confirms he's not aligned with Frieza, he's definitely gone rogue. So what happened after that?"
"Well turns out this" she motioned to the Dragonball she was holding, "Is his and I had stolen it before he found me. So after the threat he punched me and then flew off laughing." Jane's face brighten before she continued, "Just in time for him to run into Frieza's blue skinned lackey and get the beatdown of a lifetime. "
Daria's eyes brightened at the good news, "Well that takes care of one threat. Though I did kinda want to fight him again but hey you can't have everything. Tell me did he live?"
"I think so I could still sense a sliver of energy as the alien flew off with him. Poor anger issues is going to have a bad time explaining his actions to Frieza. If Frieza doesn't just kill him outright."
Nail scoffed, "Seems like hardly the victory to be celebrated. More like common thievery than anything honorable."
Daria spun around, and glared at the Namekian, "I'm sorry what was that? Did you just volunteer to go fight these guys directly?" She then walked up to him slowly as she added, "I mean so what if they're more powerful than all of us combined honor must be upheld!"
Dende quickly moved away from the two as he was sure this wasn't going to end well.
Nail however just coldly replied, "What she did might be the smart thing to do, but I don't have to like it."
Daria rolled her eyes as she turned and walked back to Jane, "Spoken like a true Klingon. Jane why don't you go inside and see if Guru can give you a powerup too. Unlike this guy he's actually pretty reasonable so it wouldn't hurt to try."
Nail just huffed as Jane handed the ball to Daria and walked toward the entrance, "Ok Daria but try to play nice with your new friends. I don't wanna have to breakup a fight when I'm done."
Daria scoffed as Nail eyed the new girl as she walked by. He sensed that she was less volatile than the half Saiyan, and let her pass without comment.
Jane walk into the elder Namekians throne room and marveled at the architecture. "Wow this place is amazing!"
Guru of course noticed the human girl and said, "Ahh you must be the one Daria spoke of. Jane I think it was."
"Yep thats me. So she said you might could release my hidden power? I could probably paint something for you to hang up here if you want."
"The painting won't be necessary, but yes I can release your hidden power to help aid you in your task, come stand over here."
Jane walked to the side of Guru's throne, "So does this take long?"
Guru reached down and put his hand on her head and started to read her thoughts, "No not really. I just need to reach deep inside you and grab ahold of your latent power."
Jane chuckled nervously, "Oh uh what no dinner and a movie first?"
Guru laughed, "Ha, you humans are funny." and then Jane was engulfed by a pillar of energy as her ki was released.
After a few moments the whirlwind of power subsided and Guru lifted his hand, "There, your latent power has been awakened and I noticed your mind is calmer than your friends. You do her a great service by keeping her balanced."
Jane invigorated at the the unlocking of her energy replied, "It's nothing I'm just there for her and all. Daria may be blunt, but she means well in the end."
"It seems that way now, but if it wasn't for you and her mother's influence things could have turned out differently for your world."
"I don't know about that. Jake said that he fled there to live in peace, not as a conqueror. I mean he runs a small martial arts dojo. Hardly the world conqueror mo"
Guru thought about that before responding, "In that case feel I misjudged them. Though their Saiyan nature makes them harsh Daria's memories do tell of a peaceful existence among humans. In any case her human side tempers her Saiyan aggression so she should thrive so long as nothing comes along and tips the balance the other way."
Jane tried not to think about what would have happened had Jake come to Earth still in Frieza's employ. Or if Daria got enraged over something and added nervously, "Yeah, it might be best to keep them content."
She then thanked Lord Guru and made her way outside.
Later the trio made it back to the cave with the capsule house and buried the two Dragonballs with the one that they had taken from Frieza earlier. Dende had accompanied them at Nails insistence to keep an eye on them and to help with the Dragonballs though Daria wasn't sure what that exactly meant. The Guardian had said he thought it would be a good idea to have the remaining Namekians spread out lest they all be wiped out at once.
Once inside the capsule house Jane stood by watching two pizza's cook while Daria sat some sodas on the table. She then poured some water into a glass as she asked Dende, "I know this whole alien invasion thing is all new to you, but I want you to know we'll do our best to help your people."
Dende nodded as she handed him the water, "Guru gave you one of our Dragonballs and he's our eldest Namekian and our leader so I have the utmost faith in his judgement."
Jane glanced over and added mockingly, "If only the leaders on Earth where so admired."
Daria smiled, "Well if that were the case then what would the pundits talk about all day?" She then looked at Dende who looked confused as he asked, "Do you not like your leaders on Earth?"
Jane laughed, "Oh I like some of them. It's just there's a lot of people on Earth so we have a lot of leaders and they don't exactly see eye to eye on a lot of things. Makes for good entertainment."
"How many people are there on Earth?", Dende asked wondering why they would need more than one leader.
"Oh only about seven billion give or take a few hundred thousand." Jane offhandedly replied as the oven dinged.
Dende's eyes opened in shock as he marveled at the sheer number. There were after all only a few thousand Namekians on Namek. He had been told the numbers were far greater in the past before the cataclysm nearly wiped out his people. A cataclysm that Guru had helped them overcome.
Jane busied herself with getting the pizza out of the oven and slicing it as Daria gave the short Namekian a good once over before asking, "So Dende I know you can manipulate your ki, but how skilled are you at it? Can you fight at all?"
Dende sat down at the table and drank some water, his only need for nourishment, and replied, "No I'm a member of the Dragon caste so we work more with magic. I've been studying the magic used to make the Dragonballs."
Daria frowned but figured he was too young to fight nonetheless.
Dende however brightened as he added, "I can heal the injured though with my magic."
Jane sat the pizza down on the table and replied, "That's pretty helpful actually. See we can take care of the fighting and you can be our white mage."
Daria nodded in agreement, "Yes that is a useful skill, and don't worry about fighting Dende. We can handle it."
"Whats a white mage?" The young Namekian asked.
Jane replied, "Oh it's slang for somebody who heals, usually warriors."
"Oh yes that's something we're called upon to do if any fighting or accidents happen."
Dende smiled happy in the fact that he could be of some help to the two off worlders that had saved him from certain death.
Meanwhile after a pizza and a between the two of them Jane asked, "So amiga do you have any ideas on getting the rest of the Dragon balls from Frieza?"
Daria's eyes wandered upward toward on of the lights on the ceiling as she thought before she responded, "You know how you said they can't sense power levels? We might be able to use that to our advantage."
"But what about their scouters? I mean surely they have extra ones."
Dende piped up at that, "Actually I don't think so. When elder Moori destroyed the ones they were wearing they seemed pretty upset that they wouldn't be able to find my people, and Frieza demanded to know where the next village was."
Jane smiled mid bite on a slice of pizza while Daria grinned slightly, "Really? Well that case it might be a good time for some breaking and entering and a distraction. But in the meantime we should get some rest. It's been a busy day."
The next "day" since with multiple suns it never actually got dark on Namek Daria, Jane, and Dende set out to find Frieza's ship. Luckily for them most of Frieza's soldiers had been thinned out by either Vegeta or the Namekians so they didn't encounter any till they got close to the huge ki signature that Frieza gave off.
It didn't take them long to spot a large circular white ship about three hundred feet in diameter with a black stripe circling it sitting in a clearing on many landing legs that seemed to ring the circumference.
Also along the sides of the ship along the black strip were round bulging windows that also circled the ship except for one large one on what Daria guessed was the front. On top in the center of the ship was a large open circular sliding door which luckily for them sat open.
All three landed nearby behind a large rock and Jane was the first to speak, "You know that sort of reminds me of an insect. Not all all what I imagined."
Daria nodded, "Yeah I thought it would have been some huge angular bulky thing painted all black with guns sticking out from every angle."
Jane gave the friend the side eye as she added, "You know that's oddly specific?"
Daria shrugged her shoulders, "What can I say I read a lot, and have a vivid imagination."
"So imaginative yet you can't paint to save your life. So tragic."
Meanwhile Dende piped up, "So how are you going to get in there?"
Jane looked over to him, "Well you might wanna stay here in case we have to make a quick getaway. But I only sense two guards in the center so how about we jump in whack them and then make our way to the Dragonballs."
Daria nodded, "Yeah there's not a lot of people in there. Maybe eight total. We can make a distraction and hopefully sneak to where the Dragonballs are. Which if I'm sensing them right should be near that big glass dome on the front."
Dende looked over, "You can sense Dragonballs too?"
Daria nodded, "Yep it took some doing, however managed to learn it from a delightfully cranky old lady who floated around on a crystal ball back on Earth."
Jane added as she shivered, "Man that woman was creepy. So are you ready?"
Daria stood up, "Sure why not. I mean what's the worst that can happen? Sudden death?"
"Such positivity." Jane deadpanned as both girls took off into the sky toward the ship.
Guard duty felt like a chance to relax for Cherry as both him and Grape had been out the last few days looking for the Dragonballs with the other soldiers. Both of which were dressed in the same form fitting blue jumpsuits with white armor over that the rest of the Frieza force wore. Over each forearm was a white blaster which could deal with most weaker foes. Even though they had a power level of one thousand the minimum to join the force, neither of them could form ki blasts on their own. Which was something that annoyed Cherry greatly.
Luckily for them the search for the Dragonballs had gone well for them. Other than shooting some defiant Namekians, neither of them got killed by either the Namekian Warriors or by Vegeta for that matter, and now they were reasonable safe inside Lord Frieza's ship.
Well reasonably safe considering Lord Frieza that considered them disposable, and had a nasty habit of killing them for trivial reasons. But it was safer than being out there with god knows what prowling around just waiting to strike. Hopefully when all was said and done on this planet they would be transferred back to a quiet post where Lord Frieza wasn't personally involved. That would be quite beneficial for their health.
It was about that time when he saw a raven haired girl appear right behind Grape she immediately clamped her hand over his mouth. He tried to call out but someone clamped a hand over his mouth. Then he heard his own neck snap and his numb body went limp.
Still in shock and not feeling the pain Cherry just thought, "Why did I have to go and jinx myself."
Daria was about to fling her guard out of the opening when she saw Jane open a random utility locker in the twenty foot circular room they were in and upon seeing spacesuits smiled and quickly stuff her guard into it.
Daria looked around and saw a similar one and did the same. Once she was done Jane had already quietly walked over, and whispered, "Man that felt a little wrong."
Daria closed the utility closet door and replied, "Jane this army is made up of the worst people in the universe. They murder, rape and pillage so I wouldn't get too broken up about killing a few of them."
"Oh no you misunderstood, I know they're bad guys. I was kinda disappointed at the lack of a fight."
"Oh well yeah I can see that, but we have to do this quietly or its us getting nailed to the wall." Daria then looked around the room and spotted two exits, "So Frieza is obviously toward the front so we should make our way toward the back and find something that'll make a nice distraction."
"Like what?" Jane asked while they quickly walked to the back of the ship.
"Oh I would have to say explosives. A nice bang should get them to run back here and see what's going on."
"What if they don't have any?"
Daria held out her hand and created a softball sized ball of unstable ki, "Well I didn't mean actual explosives. I intended to put this in a drawer and then run like hell."
"Ahh Gotcha."
Once they were at the exit to the rest of the ship Daria quiet opened it and peek down a large hallway that seemed to circle the ship with a gentle curve. As soon as she was sure the coast was clear they quickly made their way to a door near the stern of the ship, luckily it wasn't locked so she opened it and made her way inside.
The inside appeared to be a large storage room of some kind filled with plastic storage containers which were strapped to the deck and stacked to the ceiling along with a few plastic barrels.
Daria walked over to one of the stacks of containers and was about place her ball of unstable ki when she noticed a familiar energy begin to rise. She looked over to Jane who obviously felt it too as Daria began to say, "Say that feels like….."
In the starboard side of Frieza's ship in the medical compartment stood Apu, a purple alien with an elongated head, he was smiling at Prince Vegeta who floated in the regeneration tank unconscious after Zarbon had returned and unceremoniously dropped the fallen Prince onto the deck with orders to revive him.
"Oh Vegeta I would have to say it was pretty impressive how you went all manhunter on us. Nobody thought you actually had it in you to defy Lord Frieza. Figured you were just all talk like the rest of your pathetic race, although your run will end soon enough it would seem. "
Apu leaned forward near the glass window of the tank to get a better look at the fallen Saiyan, "Hmpt, too bad you can't hear me in there. All well it'll be pretty fun to watch Lord frieza break you like a glow stick, hopefully slowly."
Then suddenly to Apu's shock Vegeta opened his eyes, and focused on him, "Wait you're awake? Already? How can that be, you were barely alive!"
He then looked on frozen in terror as the prince ripped off his breathing mask and started to power up. A white light quickly engulfed the tank as Vegeta's ki built up pressure on its walls. The last thing Apu saw before he was vaporized by the resulting blast was white energy erupting from the healing tank as it shattered.
Damage control alarms blared throughout the ship as Vegeta, shrouded in a blue aura, stood in the center of the ruined medical room. The force of the explosion had breached the outer hull and the bulkhead to the internal corridor. He quickly moved into the corridor and saw a group of crew members heading for the medical compartment to contain the damage.
"Oh whats this? More lambs for the slaughter?", Vegeta yelled as he held out his right hand and sent an energy blast down the corridor right into the group of them which consumed them in another burst of energy.
"Well that should get Frieza's attention. Now to go find the Dragonballs!", Vegeta added while he flew down the corridor towards the front of the ship.
Daria was cut off mid sentence when a large explosion threw her and Jane to the deck as it rocked the ship. She called out to Jane as they recovered, "I think Vegeta's taking care of the distraction part of the plan."
Jane added, "Well let's not let a good distraction go to waste then.", as they ran to the door.
Once they arrived in the central corridor a loud second blast went off nearby this time causing smoke to flood the corridor they were in from behind. Just in time to see two soldier run around the curved corridor and stop right in front of them, "Intruders! Blast them!" One yelled as they both open fire with their arm guns. Daria and Jane simply phase in and out as they dodge the hail of energy blasts before they phase behind both soldiers and knocked them out cold with blows to the back of their necks before flying down the curved corridor.
In the ship's bridge Frieza floated unaffected in his hover throne as the ship rocked from the blast which forced Zarbon to jump into the air. Frieza then looked over to the light blue alien and asked in a calm voice, "Zarbon, what the hell was that?"
Zarbon looked over to the tyrant with a look on his face of 'oh I messed up', "Um that seems to have come from the medical compartment sir."
Frieza leaned toward the light blue alien, "Oh that's good to know. Tell me Zarbon who did you leave in charge of guarding Vegeta?"
"Apu sir."
Frieza exploded with rage, "APU! YOU LEFT APU TO GUARD HIM! APU COULDN'T HANDLE A STIFF DRINK MUCH LESS VEGETA! WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!"
The tyrant calmed a bit as they left the bridge and hurried to the site of the explosion before continued, "You know what, to hell with torturing him just find him and kill him or I swear to god I'm going to have Ginyu slaughter all of you incompetent morons when he gets here!"
Meanwhile Vegeta stood flat against the wall of the corridor and watched the tyrant and his chief lackey head out of the ship's bridge before making his way in. Once inside he laughed at the sight of the remaining Dragonballs, "Ha those morons think I fled, but not without my prize first. Finally immortality will be mine!"
He quickly held out his right hand and blasted a hole in the domed window before he threw the balls out of it. With a little help from his ki each one shot away with enough force to carry them for miles.
After he threw the last ball he rocketed out of the ship leaving a trail of blue energy in his wake just as the doors to the bridge opened revealing Jane and Daria.
Jane ran into the room with a look of horror on her face as she saw the prince fly off into the sky and yelled, "Shit that arrogant bastard took our balls!"
Daria calmly walked in and added, "Well I wouldn't have worded it exactly that way, but that he did and you know what?"
Jane turned around to face Daria, "What?" she asked wondering why Daria was so calm about this utter disaster.
Daria smiled slightly and pointed with her thumb over her shoulder in the general direction of Frieza before replying, "Well Vegeta did do us a favor in getting the Dragonballs away from that insanely powerful psychopath, and now all we have to do is take them from Vegeta."
Jane began to smile, "Oh that's is a good point, and he doesn't stand a chance against us this time."
"Yep it's time to make him regret the day he ever set foot on Earth." Daria added as they both blasted off after them.
