Due to her recent injuries, Vala has been ordered to take two weeks leave. Now, she prepares to leave her flagship, and travel to her homeworld of Aquilae.
In the hangar deck of the Endurance, Vala stands near her ship, the Centurion Eagle. Also present are Arvon, Aja, Jek, BB-8, R2-D2, and Rey, whose own ship, the Millennium Falcon, is parked next to the Eagle.
"You don't need to fly us to Aquilae. I'm sure you have things to do." Vala says.
"Not at the moment. Besides, you're on leave. That means no working… at all. No flying either." Rey says.
"There's one thing we agree on. You don't need to be flying right now, so the Eagle can stay here." Arvon says.
"Alright." Vala says.
"Go ahead and get your things to the Falcon. We'll leave as soon as you're ready. Artoo… begin pre-flight." Rey says. R2-D2 beeps in acknowledgement, then rolls up the ramp of the Falcon to carry out Rey's instructions.
"I'll go grab a hoversled and start moving our stuff to the Falcon." Aja says.
"As far as my things go, just the blue containers. Everything else can stay." Vala says.
"Right. On it." Aja says. The girl walks away to find a hoversled.
"So, I take it you will not be bringing all twenty thousand of your outfits." Rey says.
"Don't be silly, grandmother. I wouldn't do that to you. I'm only bringing nineteen thousand outfits." Vala says. Rey shakes her head.
"Always the comedian." Rey says.
"I'm joking, of course. Just three crates. That's all I'm bringing." Vala says.
"I expect you have a rather large collection on Aquilae anyway. You have learned some bad habits from your mother. Particularly her obsession with the accumulation of material things. You come from one of the wealthiest families in the galaxy, but… that should not define you. You are a Jedi." Rey says.
"I would like to think I've at least grown up a little bit." Vala says.
"Perhaps." Rey says.
"Speaking of my mother, when we get to Aquilae, could you please try not to argue with her? I hate seeing the two of you fight." Vala says.
"No promises." Rey says.
"I know that the two of you don't see eye to eye, but… I love both of you. I hate to see you not getting along. Could you at least… fake it?" Vala asks.
"Senatha… has been a good mother to you, and a good wife to my son. That being said, we have very different views on many things. For your sake, I will try my best, but there is little I can do if your mother starts it." Rey says.
"As I've gotten older, I've come to realize that mom can be… difficult, and she isn't always right, but she's still my mother." Vala says.
"Of course she is. I'm not saying you shouldn't love her. That being said, the rest of her family… are poison. Particularly your Uncle Albor. That man… is about as corrupt as they come." Rey says.
"He's my uncle in name only. I despise the man. I put up with him for mother's sake." Vala says.
"Keep one thing in mind… I am going to Aquilae for you… and your father. I will be there to support you. I will not be there for anyone else's foolishness." Rey says.
"I know. Still… you could try a little diplomacy." Vala says. Rey smiles.
"Throwing my own lessons back at me, I see. Very good. You remember at least some of what I taught you." Rey says.
"I'm serious here." Vala says.
"I know. I will do as you ask. I will 'fake it'." Rey says.
"Thank you." Vala says.
"You're welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me. It appears Arvon wants to have a word with me." Rey says.
Rey walks to Arvon, and nods respectfully. Arvon hesitates for a moment before returning the gesture.
"Master Rey." Arvon says.
"Arvon." Rey says.
"Thank you… for taking her. It doesn't make up for everything, but it's a start." Arvon says.
"I'm sorry I've broken your trust in me, Arvon. I hope I can earn it back in time." Rey says.
"In time… perhaps." Arvon says.
"Fair enough. Vala, I will be in the cockpit. Let me know when you are ready to leave." Rey says.
Rey walks away, leaving Arvon and Vala alone.
"I've been hoping to go home for a while. Just… not like this." Vala says.
"I'm sorry I had to force the issue, but it's for your own good. If you stayed on board, you'd keep trying to work. Even if I asked you not to. Face it, Vala. You need some time off." Arvon says.
"What about you? Don't you need some time off too?" Vala asks.
"I'll think about it." Arvon answers.
"That's it? You'll think about it?" Vala asks.
"This… Star Forge… is the greatest find of our age. I intend to study it. Thoroughly. Once we know more about it, and we get to a point where I can leave capable officers in command, then I'll think about some time off. Until then, I think I need to be here." Arvon answers.
"You think I'm not interested in the Star Forge? It fascinates me too! I want to study this place with you! All this knowledge here could be of great benefit to the Alliance!" Vala says.
"I agree. I want you here with me, and you will be. Once your leave is over." Arvon says.
"Speaking of my leave… would you… mind stepping inside for a moment to talk about it?" Vala asks.
"Of course." Arvon answers.
Vala and Arvon board the Millennium Falcon, and walk to the ship's common room.
"So… you want to discuss your leave." Arvon says.
"That was just an excuse to get us alone, laser brain!" Vala says.
"Well… you got me." Arvon says.
"I'm going to be away for two weeks. We'll still be able to talk to each other, but only seeing you as a hologram won't be the same." Vala says.
"No, it won't." Arvon says.
"Now, would you mind taking that blasted helmet off?" Vala asks.
"For you? Of course." Arvon answers.
Arvon lowers his hood, and removes his helmet. He then sets the helmet on a nearby table.
"I know it's tradition for Mandalorians, but… I wish you'd consider not wearing that thing all the time. I know you believe in the Creed, and I respect that. But, not all Mandalorians follow it. Your brother, for example, hasn't worn his helmet in years. Will it really hurt anybody if you don't strictly follow the Creed? It's not like your clan will cast you out for taking your helmet off every now and then. Clan Bridger has never been all that orthodox anyway. You're kind of an exception." Vala says.
"True, but I've followed the Creed since I was a child. Could you so easily change your beliefs?" Arvon asks.
"No, I suppose not. I'm being selfish again. I'm sorry." Vala says.
"You have nothing to be sorry for. You're being honest with me, and I'll always welcome that." Arvon says.
"I have my beliefs. You have yours. I need to be more supportive." Vala says.
"You support me well enough, Vala. There's no point believing otherwise." Arvon says.
"No matter if we're together or apart, there's one thing that's most important. I love you… with all of my heart, until the end of time.." Vala says.
"I love you too. Until the end of time." Arvon says.
