Chapter 2: A Dark Stranger

Notice: I do not own Harry Potter. I do not claim nor wish to make any money off of this. I merely enjoy writing in JK Rowlings world. I also do not own Star Trek or claim ownership of anything to do with it.

He pressed the tip of the wand against the right side pillar and pushed his magic through his wand. He could immediately feel a drain. The veil now shook with power filling it from the ritual. Harry spoke loudly over a rumble that started to fill the chamber, "I trust my soul to my families power, may it guide me in passage to when I am needed most."

As soon as the words left his mouth Harry James Potter, last of the bloodline of the Peverell's stepped through the portal into the unknown

Rose's day was complete shit. Hell her summer was total and utter bloody crap. Her life had started to go down hill last year and now it smelled worse then a pile of dragon dung. It started last year where she was forced into a tournament, lost most of her friends and ended up being an outcast of Hogwarts. This was not surprising honestly since it had happened before to her. What was surprising was that her year ended up with her being used in a ritual to summon back the Dark Lord that was responsible for her parents death. To make matters worse while the ritual was performed her boyfriend Cedric Diggory was murdered. Granted she ended up escaping from the bastard but she still relived it every night.

What was her reward for living through an encounter with the Dark Lord for the fourth time in her life? A one way trip to Durskaban. Yes, she had been shipped off to here and had not heard a single word from anyone in the Wizarding World. She had not expected much from her roommates except for Hermione. But, the fact that the girl had not written back had hurt. Add to the fact that her owl, Hedwig had not returned and most likely had been kept after trying to get an answer of what was going on didn't help. She was on an information blackout, which rather pissed off the sixteen year old redhead.

Ever since she turned twelve and the letter appeared before her relatives she had wondered about her place in the Wizarding World. It had at first been an escape, a place of acceptance for her gifts and a chance to find her own life. But, it had quickly become dangerous to the point that she was starting to wonder why she kept going back? Was the beauty and mystery worth being in the danger and fickle masses?

That of course was a question to ponder of a different day. Because today she was in the park on a swing set by herself. She was kicked out of the house after her chores by her 'loving' Aunt Petunia. She had little she could do on her own without any money and without her wand. Not that she could use it without the Ministry getting wind of it. What could make her day worse? Why her cousin's gang here harassing a poor little kid.

"Dudley look it is your cousin. Perhaps we should chase the Rose." Piers Polkiss, part of Dudder's gang spoke up.

Rose had noticed he seemed to be looking at her in ways she rather not have him stare. She was used to people staring at her thanks to her fame in the Wizarding World, but the type of gaze on the boy made a chill run down her spine. "This Rose has thorns on it Polkiss. Isn't that right Dudders?"

The older teen picked up on her tone and a grimace crossed his lips. He remembered the last time he tried to pick on her last summer. She kneed him in the groin so hard that he threw up. Since then he normally left her alone at home, of course the threat of ears to match his tail had something to do with it. "Lets leave her be Piers. Besides it getting late."

The bully frowned at his cohort before he let out a grunt, "Fine, I will see you later big D."

Rose resisted the urge to roll her eyes at the two of them before turning to walk home. She had to get back before Vernon got home since she was required to make dinner. She didn't want to risk his ire as she had felt it before too many times. It only took a moment to realize her cousin was following her.

The pair walked down the alleyways as the street lights flickered on as the sun faded away. Of course for Rose life this couldn't be just any normal day. Instead she felt them coming. The world seemed to frost over despite it being Summer. The puddles on the ground from a earlier shower frosted over. Her breath started to come out as a mist as a shiver ran down her spine.

She was not ready for Dudley grabbing hold of her braided crimson hair and pulling her backwards. His hot disgusting smelling breath washed over her face, "What are you doing FREAK!?"

"I am not doing anything. That is coming from creatures, dangerous creatures called Dementors. We need to run!"Rose screamed back before kicking backwards at his knee. A grunt of surprise sounded out before she was dropped back onto the ground. She turned around to see her cousin collapsed onto the ground holding his groin.

"Get up you fool!" She tried to grab hold of the little grubby bastard but he was too heavy to lift, "Get us or you will die!"

It seemed that the boy was too paralyzed to move, whether it was from pain in his groin or the chilling fear that seemed to settle into the area one could not tell. It didn't matter in the end as too much time had been wasted. The girl-who-lived felt their fear induced vision before she saw the creatures. Before her eyes appeared her mother screaming, "Not my Rose, Kill me instead!"

The voice had been something she had dealt with during third year often. In fact it was something that she still dealt with in her nightmares. The pleas of her mother followed by the glowing green light of death. It was because she had become close to numb to the feeling that she was able to move. To look up and see three dementors circling around them. Her voice was raw as she whispered, "No..."

Rose reached for he wand only to realize it was not present as Vernon had taken it from her. She was defenseless against three most dangerous creatures in the magical world! Her eyes went wide as the one of the trio swooped down towards her. She tried to ward it off with her arms but it captured one of them in it's boney limb. Kicking, punching, pulling and tugging to get free would not help Rose in any way as it's vice-like grip was sealing her fate.

So enraptured by her struggle for life and death she never noticed the other two as they dropped down before Dudley. Invisible to the heavy set teenager he had not chance as one grappled hold of him before the other started to drink in soul. The two of them switching as if two lovers sharing a straw to a soft drink. The boy had not chance and became an empty husk in seconds.

They turned away from the appetizer towards their main feast letting the the corpse fall to the frozen ground. Rose glanced back at the sound of the loud thump, seeing herself surrounded knowing that her fate was sealed. The two swooped forward to try to grab hold of her body. Despite her struggles the one before he leaned downwards to lay a kiss upon her. But instead of it's lips touching to her lips it met her forehead where the livid cursed scar lay. She felt a pulling from her body as a flow of darkness started to be dragged out of her body. She tried to bite her bottom lip to keep her mouth shut but she couldn't stop herself as she screamed in pain as her body was wracked with agony!

Her vision going dark from the amount of torment that she had been put through she felt the other two Dementors turning her around towards them. She knew this would be the end, her strength gone and her fight fled into the night. She couldn't say she had a good life but she at least had tried her best to live it as a good person!

A moment before the creature dipped downwards for it's feast it stopped startled. Rose took that second with the last of her strength to stare at what could surprise a Dementor! Appearing to the side of the monsters of nightmares and the teenager was a man. He was not an impressive man in height, instead of average height and appearing to be slim in build. He had dragonhide black boots on his feet and wore dark black robes lined with silver. On his back and shoulders was a hooded cloak that seemed to shimmer in color from matching it's surroundings to black. On the middle of it was a symbol of a circle containing a triangle with a line down the middle. The hood of the cloak shadowed the man's features from Rose except for his eyes. She recognized them anywhere because they were so like her own eyes. They glowed with power, emeralds that seemed to capture all of the light of the surroundings and spread warmth to the area despite the dementor's legendary power of cold.

The man flicked his wrist and a wand appeared in it. It was a long wand about fifteen inches in length while the wood was dark almost like elder wood. The wizard raised his wand upwards and stared at the creatures. He seemed to whisper words as she caught a glimpse of light from the alley fall onto her chin and teeth. Out of the poured power that she had felt before. It felt like the patronus charm in fact, which Rose was intimately familiar with! But instead of forming a patronus it shot out of the wand like a cannon striking the two dementors that were about to feast upon her soul. The beam appeared to wrap around them filling them up with azure light for a moment.

It was at that second that Rose her the most scary she would ever hear in her life. A dementor crying as pain seemed to run like a raging river of the pair of demonic creatures. Their forms seemed to shiver from the light, as they twisted and turned trying to escape it all for naught. It seemed like minutes even though it was only a few seconds before the pair of monsters of nightmares burst into flames before falling to the ground in ashes.

The teenage girl dropped with no strength left to even hold herself up as the demon behind her released her. It started to fly up into the sky only to be struck by another beam of light. This one too met the same fate as it's sisters as ashes of the beast fluttered to the ground. Rose tried to rise but fell back onto the ground defenseless from the wizard. The man seemed not to notice as he watched the falling ashes of the beast. He never spared a glance at Dudley's body but instead waved his wand towards Rose causing her to rise upwards.

She felt a shimmering, waving feeling wash over her body as she started to float upwards and follow behind the man despite her wishes. She opened her mouth to speak but found she lacked the strength to even whisper. The stranger filled the void of silence as he walked down the streets towards Privet Drive, "I have hidden you from view so the muggles will not see you. I expect your will receive a notice for this from your Ministry. It was not an accident that you have been attacked here today Ms. Potter. I suggest you get away from the muggles before they realize what happened to their child."

The red head wet her lips before whispering softly, "Why..."

"Why save you?" The man didn't turn around fully, only enough for one of his emerald eyes to glance outwards and spot her slow nod. He turned back towards the street as they crossed it over to the sidewalk of Number 4, "Because you are not in this alone. I am sorry I was not here before but I was not aware how desperate things were till the news of what happened at the tournament broke."

"Who..." Rose whispered softly again but loud enough that the young man heard her.

"Another time and place I will answer that. But, know that if you need me, I will be there. I suggest you are better to wonder what the dementor was doing when it gave the kiss to your scar. Just as important to that question is why nobody knew what was contained in it. Or perhaps some may have known and did not tell you..." The wizard paused as he stopped levitating at her doorstep. His emerald eyes flickered over her again before he turned to walk away. She saw his cloak start to shimmer before he disappeared without a word.

Author Note: A short second chapter, but I hope people like the idea of the story. Any thoughts? I made school start at 12 instead of 11 btw. Harry would be 21 years old in the story. A young man but a powerful young man. I considered having him apply for the defense against the Dark Arts post. I figured that Dumbledore would not turn down an alive Peverell for the position. Thoughts?
