Chapter 2: A Holiday
Notice: I do not own Harry Potter or Naruto. I do not make any money on either product as both owners are worth far more than I ever will hope to earn in a dozen lifetimes. Any characters or power/spells or anything else from there is owned by them. I do not claim rights or anything else for it. I am just playing around in their sandbox since their works are very interesting. Also please note there is only a slight crossover with Naruto in this storyline.
Harry couldn't help the large smile that came over his lips at holding the jacket. It had been his father's and now it was his own. There were few things of his parents he owned and every scrap he could get of them he treasured. He carefully put it on and was surprised when it magically resized itself to fit. "Thank you Padfoot. This all means the world to me."
"It is just the start Harry. Trust me, I have plans that only a marauder can pull off." Sirius added with a grin filled with mischief. He jumped onto the bike and winked, "Get on Harry, it is time to take the ride of your life."
Harry jumped onto the back of the bike and they sped off to start their adventure.
~~~ TBH ~~~
Harry felt the wind whip through his hair as his heart raced just as fast as Sirius sped the motorcycle through London. None of the muggles noticed them as they swerved between cars, buses and even pedestrians. The muggle repelling and notice-me-not charms on the bike had to be something special as they repeatedly ignored the lights and seemed to miss the traffic. In way it felt like the crazy Night Bus ride except this one was without the magical speed not to notice traffic and he had nothing for walls. In Harry's opinion it was the closest thing he had ever come to riding on a broom.
What was even more surprising for Harry was after they had gotten out of the city and into the suburbs heading South East of London Sirius really kicked it into gear. The engine purred loudly and they shot like a bat out of hell towards their destination! It was truly the most fun Harry had ever had outside of the school year in his life. Hell if his summer holiday ended now it would be considered the best one he ever had and it was just the start!
The bike took fifteen minutes to reach Dover traveling at speeds that a Ferrari enthusiast would envy or shit their pants. Once there they kept going passing it in a blur before hitting the newly created English tunnel to France. The construction had been completed for structure of the tunnel but it wouldn't be open for the public for a few months. That mattered little to Sirius as with a whoop of glee he started to swerve in between barricades, cones, people, and broken pieces of road. The greater the danger of wrecking or challenge the more Sirius seemed to enjoy it. In truth Harry was enraptured by the speed and the fact that he realized that they would be leaving Britain for the first time in his life. But he would love it even more if he was the one driving!
The pair broke through the tunnel under the English Channel into France and turned south again putting the pedal to the metal. Harry took a deep breath trying to see if Fleur was right and the air was better in France and for his trouble swallowed a bug. He spent ten minutes gagging on the thing before Sirius finally pulled over off of the road by the seaside. The bike pulled to a stop on the cliff-side of Normandy overlooking the crashing waves of the English Channel. Before Harry could even comprehend what he was seeing Sirius spoke up, "That is quite a view."
"It is pretty. I never saw the Ocean before." Harry answered while wrinkling his noise and spitting out the taste of bug.
Sirius rolled his eye at the boy then cast a breath freshening charm at Harry. He flashed him a grin, "Make certain to keep your mouth closed when on the road else you will get bugs. The Ocean is a beautiful and mysterious thing. When I was locked up I would often try to reach up to the top of the cell where there was a window. I always wanted to look out the window at the sea. The bastards kept a window up there to let in the cold and rain but made certain it was too high up for anyone to look out it. Even if it was cold and dark out there I could hear the waves crashing and smell the salt in the air but I couldn't see it. I knew the next time I would truly see the Ocean I would be free if that ever happened."
They both fell silent for a few minutes and Harry did not interrupt Sirius as he too stared out at the breaking waves. In a way this meant he too was free. He was free of English. Free of the dangers that were there and free of his loving relatives. It was something Harry always wanted but never thought it could happen. Here he with Sirius was not the Boy-who-lived with the expectation and pressures that came with it. According to his godfather here he was Harry his godson and family. A smile came over the lips of Harry and he reached out and gave a squeeze to Sirius shoulder shocking him out of his own deep dark thoughts.
The older man smiled at his godson and winked, "I wanted to talk more but I knew we needed to get away first before I could explain out plan."
"Our plan? If we needed to get away from my muggle relatives why did we need to go all the way to here?" Harry asked curious.
A grimace split the lips of Sirius as he let out a sigh. He made sure to meet Harry's eyes locked to them, "We didn't need to get away from just your relatives but from the old Headmaster too."
Sirius saw Harry's eyes widen and raised his hand before he could speak, "Let me explain Harry then you decide if I am right or not okay? I never want obedience, but I want you to understand why I do things. We are doing this trip to teach you after all. Plus that is what family does, help each other grow."
"Now the Headmaster is a good man Harry. He is a wise man and powerful but he is old. Not just old but ancient, he was an old man when your grandmother was girl in school and that changes a person. He will always look at us as children he taught, by Merlin's aching ball sack he looks at most of the death eaters the same. He feels his age and experience means he knows better and he seems to think you need to stay under his watch." Sirius paused a moment to let his words sink in for Harry.
"Albus believes you need to be coddled Harry. That you are a boy still despite your age and experiences you have gone through. He wants you kept out of the way and safe as he sees it behind the blood wards on your aunts. I don't believe he does this to hurt you but to make certain you are safe. But, I think if we want to let you grow you need to be free Harry!" Sirius couldn't help but smile at the nod and smile that came over his godson's face.
"If you remember last year I was at the Headmaster's office at the end of the year. I saw the trinket he has there in there. I know from my youth what those trinkets do. They track someone by blood Harry. I think he is using it to track the wards and then yourself. If they are what I think they are they can only track you while in England. That is why we needed to get away as soon as possible. Once those weak bloody pieces of shit he calls wards fall then I expect him to start looking for you. Now that you are out of the country you should be safe here." Sirius finished as he reached into a pouch at the side of the bike and pulled out two bottles of cold butterbeer. He flicked his fingertips over the tops and they popped off. "Still got it. The only piece of wandless magic I ever learned how to open a bottle. The girls love it."
Harry accepted the bottle from him and took a deep pull of it enjoying the slightly alcoholic butterscotch taste. A smile ran over his lips as he let out sigh having missed this since leaving the school. "So you are saying that the Headmaster is not a bad guy but believes he knows right no matter what."
"Yes Harry, and he will do what he thinks is best for the Greater Good no matter what. He looks at the big picture always. Sometimes he lets things get lost in the shuffle. Think about your third year. He could have forced a trial for me but he put it off. He told me once things calmed down he would see my name cleared. I am sure you can think over some examples too." Sirius frowned darkly as he stared at the butterbeer seeming to wish it was something stronger before he took a big gulp of the bottle.
A frown covered the face of the teen as he considered Sirius words. The fact that the Headmaster was also the Chief Warlock had escaped Harry's attention. Hell if he thought about it he really didn't know much about the Ministry of Magic except that it was the government. They didn't have classes that really taught about it. A frown crossed his lips thinking about the fact if what Sirius was true, and he believed him, then the Headmaster could have forced Sirius to be brought to trial and given back his life. But, he stopped that for what? What would Albus Dumbledore have to gain by not helping Sirius? But why was the Headmaster so intent on him? Why was Voldemort so after him that he set up a grand scheme just to kidnap and use him for the ritual? Couldn't he have done that with Mad-eye whom was held captive all year? "Why me Sirius?"
"He didn't tell you?" Sirius' frown grew into a glare as he stared back out at the ocean towards England. He let out sigh, "Bloody Hell Harry. After the death of your grandparents your parent got in the war heavily. They sided with Albus' Order of the Phoenix, a vigilante group there to stop Voldemort. We fought different then most of the order. James and I both were raised by the Black way. If we fight, we fight to win at all costs no matter what must be done. Hell James even killed a few of the inner circle with his transfiguration abilities."
A wistful smile that was partly creepy came over the lips of the former Azkaban prisoner. "They were amazing together your parents. They fought side by side switching opponents and moving like a pair of dancers when in danger. It was deadly but beautiful. They even fought against Who-know-who three times to a stalemate before Albus could arrive to force him to flee Harry. But then one day they went into hiding."
A pause came over the pair as Sirius stared at the ocean's waves. Sadness seemed to creep over his face and eyes before he closed them, "Albus was giving an interview to a prospective teacher for the divination post. According to what I am told she gave him a true prophecy. I never was told it fully but it was explained that the one born at the end of July would have the power to defeat the You-know-who."
"Why do you not call him Volde..." Harry's words were stopped as Sirius covered his mouth with his hand.
"Because in the first war he placed a taboo on his name. Whenever it was said they would know who said it and where. The last thing we would want while on the run is them after us." Sirius met the gaze of Harry's emeralds with a concerned look in his light gray eyes, "Do you Understand?"
"Dumbledore always said to fear a name merely adds fear for that person." Harry quoted back to his godfather.
"Indeed and when we are as skilled as him we will be able to do the same without fear of being attacked Harry. It is not fear but caution that benefits us here you understand?" Sirius asked with a understanding smile.
"I do. I am surprised nobody used Vold... let's call him Tom." Harry corrected himself with a raised eyebrow at the choice of name from Sirius. " It is his real name and the name of his muggle father after all. Why didn't people use Tom's name to draw them out for ambushes?"
"Who said we didn't Harry? Your mother and father did just that with myself and Marlene." For a brief second Sirius eyes looked distant before they came back to the here and now. "We did just that and your father actually killed the Dolohov's heir and the LeStrange patriarch. But we are getting off of the answer to your question."
"It seems that somehow you-know... Tom found out about the prophecy so your parents went into hiding. Albus cast the Fidelius charm with myself as the secret keeper. Well Lily didn't trust anyone to know who their keeper was so at my suggestion they picked Wormtail instead. You know what happened from there and where we both ended up." Sirius shook his head, his mangey locks of hair covering his eyes.
Harry was quite for a long moments staring at his godfather in shock about this news. Finally he spoke ignoring the beauty of the world around him as dark thoughts filled his mind, "I am the reason they died... He came for me..."
"No Harry. He would have come for us all eventually. We are all top priority. The reason they died is some sick bastard Death Eater pointed the monster in your direction. Lily and James would have given anything to keep you safe. You meant to all of us. You were the future, what we were fighting for. We didn't care about Albus or Tom's power struggle or who won. We didn't care about the reasons as your parents were part of the traditional party like their grandparents were. We wanted the world to become a safer place for your future Harry. Never think that you caused your parents to die." Sirius finished his impassioned words by giving a squeeze to the shoulder of Harry making the young man meet his gaze and break out of the shock.
"What this does mean though is that bastard will come after you no matter what. He will keep coming no matter where we go and what we do. So you have only one choice Harry. You fight, you fight with all of the passion in your body to live. Because only if you gave up would your parents ever regret their sacrifice." Sirius waited till Harry's eyes shined with a passion that the teen understood his words before he pulled him into a tight hug.
Harry tightened up at the hug at first having only had a few in his lifetime before he relaxed. He couldn't stop himself from remarking that the hug was different then Hermione's squeezing hugs or Ms Weasley's overbearing ones, instead it felt just right like a father might give to his son. He couldn't help the strange wetness on his cheeks while in it.
They stayed like that for a minute or two before Sirius stepped back and coughed not used to showing such touchy feel stuff. He cleared his throat giving Harry time to compose himself then the son of House Black spoke up, "Now to our plan it is simple. First we are going for a week reservation to get looked over at a special place. By the time we are done there I promise you will be asking to stay longer too."
A mischief filled grin split the face of Sirius Black. He was fully back to being a trickster as he chuckled to himself, "After that we are going to somewhere safe that we can start your training in the Black family traditions and ways of war. But, I warn you Harry we were not a light family, you will be put through hell but when you are done you will be a new man."
Harry matched his godfather's grin with his own, "Bring it on old man."
Sirius couldn't help rolling his eyes and chuckling as he jumped back onto the motorcycle. "Get on Pup let's get going."
"Hey Padfoot can I drive?" Harry asked hopefully was he jumped onto the back of the bike.
The only answer the teen got was laughter as the tired pealed up dirt before hitting the road at obscene speeds towards Southern France.
