Author's note:

Thanks to the few people who took the time to review the last chapter. I am bummed with the less feedback to be honest. Plus I got stuck with the airline fiasco, and my flight got canceled four times!

Not sure when I'll be updating again but here's a small chapter I managed to write.

Chapter 3: Baby Steps

The next morning came. Even though Maura Isles was a regular early riser, she opted to sleep in after the sun rose. The blonde ME was indeed exhausted from the previous day and it was the weekend. Plus she was not on-call today, the perks of being the chief medical examiner; Dr. Isles can maneuver her schedule efficiently.

Rolling over to her other side, the half asleep blondie barely registered the sound of the back door opening and closing before footsteps came up the stairs. A knock on the master bedroom door then Angela Rizzoli's head popped in the ajar wood frame.

"Good morning, Maura." The older woman's chirpy but quiet greeting reached the ears of the prone girl in bed. Angela chuckled lightly when an incoherent reply responded. "I just wanted to let you know I'll make breakfast. Go snooze for another hour, honey. I will wake you up if you're not up in an hour." A mumble sounded like 'thank you' after and the door was shut again as the Rizzoli mother went to work in the kitchen.

Grabbing some strawberries from the fridge, Angela chatted the resident tortoise of the house as she placed a bowl of dog food in front of the Yorkie she's dogsitting. Jane had texted her yesterday morning asking if her mother can watch Jo Friday while the detective finishes her assignment. The elder woman agreed although technically the canine will be left with a certain ME when the dark haired detective moves to DC. Jane had expressed it will be more logical to keep Jo Friday home plus it will keep Bass company. Maura was happy to welcome the dog into her residence but Angela didn't miss the longing on the blonde woman. She understood it well, as a mother she was glad her baby daughter will be in a less possible harmful occupation but far away from them.

With a bittersweet smile, Angela grabbed her needed ingredients.

Truth be told, within an hour the smell of freshly brewed coffee and breakfast seeped through the closed bedroom and hazel-green orbs were coaxed awake from slumber. Sliding the covers away from her body, Maura stretched for a little bit before using the bathroom.

Hearing footsteps coming down the stairs, the woman in the kitchen grabbed a mug. Angela just finished pouring the coffee when the familiar voice greeted her. "Good morning, Angela." The addressed female nodded back in gesture. "Thank you for cooking breakfast."

"You are welcome, darling." Motherly brown orbs followed the still pajama-clad girl as she placed the coffee mug on the counter and platted the said breakfast. Maura smiled at the sight of her tortoise bobbing head as a bouncing dog bounded by her feet. "Both of them are fed also."

"I appreciate the help." One freshly brewed coffee, veggie omelet with a side of bunny pancake later, Angela and Maura continued with their morning chitchat.

"I'm glad Rafael is feeling better." Over the years, Maura had learned to freely interact with the mother Rizzoli. Afterall, Angela treated her like a second daughter so it was not surprising now how their conversations hover more around family and friends, not just mere casual pleasantries which the blonde ME greatly appreciated, or sometimes not. "I tell ya, if he's married by now he'll learn how to be more careful!" Of course, with the freedom of conversation came no boundaries so Maura had been on difficult topics of gossiping and the disadvantage of not being able to lie was not her blessing. "A wife will be good for him." Angela set her cup down after her adamant proclamation.

"Of course." Slightly fidgeting on her seat, the younger female tried to calmly continue. "A study shows Human behavior is 93 percent predictable, a group…" Brown irises narrowed.

"Maura Dorothea Isles!" Then the full name. 'You know something!" The said woman flinched more from being caught than the loud but excited voice. "Janie is not dating Rafael again, right?!"

"No!" Clearing her throat, Maura tried again. Her voice sounded harsh all of a sudden. She didn't mean to snap back at the older female. "I'm sorry, Angela but I do not think they are dating again." That bitter sensation came again and the doctor frowned slightly.

If Angela was taken aback by the defensive comment she just brushed it off before eyeing the seemingly irritated younger girl. She watched amused as Maura bit her lower lip and knitted her brows in contemplation.

"Why darling, are you jealous?" It was more of a nonchalant statement than a real question as the elder stood up to refill her mug with coffee. "Do you want more coffee?"

Bewildered, Maura stuttered for a second before declining. "No, thank you." The doctor deduced she didn't need more caffeine with her jittery nerves. The initial question caught her off guard and she was thankful for the change of topic, or not.

"So what about Rafael?" Two detective Rizzolis didn't call their mother overbearing if Angela Rizzoli's interrogation was that easy to get away from. The deer caught in the headlights expression of the ME was back. "He's dating someone?" Came the cat ate the canary probing. "You're not dating him, are you?"

"Of course not." Angela chuckled inwardly at the matter-of-fact response. Successful with her diversion, the gossip queen pushed.

"Do you want to date him?"

"No. I think he is involved with the new detective." Hazel-green orbs widened in realization on what she just blurted out in defense. Maura looked at the raised eyebrow of the older woman. Dr. Isles resigned in defeat. Everybody knows Dr. Maura Isles don't just speculate without proof. "I may have walked in on them yesterday when I visited Rafael at the hospital.

An excited squeal from Angela filled the beacon hill home as Maura was drilled for juicy details.

Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles

Meanwhile at Massgen, a certain dark haired detective grabbed her hanky as she covered her nose for the nth time sneezing. Alec reached for the automatic sanitizer dispenser by the door and rubbed her hands clean before exiting room 201.

As promised, she came the next day to check on her senior detective colleague but on her way, a certain lieutenant gave her a call and requested to talk to her regarding their situation. Thus Detective Reyes visited Martinez early in the morning. They were in the middle of their conversation when Alec's phone rang though she would have ignored the ringing and let it go to voicemail if it wasn't for the familiar number of the hospital flashing on the caller ID.

The caller was a nurse from the Massgen pediatric ward. It unnerved the female detective so Martinez technically ordered the younger officer to check what's happening especially after the nurse briefly explained it was regarding their patient Jeanne Blackwell and little girl was shouting for the presence of an officer Alec Reyes.

Destination in mind, Detective Reyes spun towards the fire exit and hastily took the stairs to another floor level. Entering the desired hallway, heterochromatic orbs zoomed in on red droplets on the floor. Left hand hovered over her weapon, Alec cautiously approached the noise coming from the nurse station. She was met with three individuals; two obvious nurses and one doctor based on the white coat and name plate displayed. Scratch that, white coat with red stains as the two nurses continued to clean the doctor's bloodied face.

"Hello, is everything all right here?" Reyes flashed her badge when three sets of eyes finally noticed her.

"Ah, Officer Reyes." The detective recognized the nurse from yesterday and the same voice from the phone call. "Thank you for coming. We just had an incident." The second nurse nodded and Alec was led by the former towards one of the doors of the children's room. They stopped just outside the closed entry before the medical staff resumed. "The doctor came this morning to do rounds and check on the patients. I personally checked on Jeanne earlier when I started my shift. She was fine and ate her breakfast quietly but when the doctor came to her section of the ward, the child–"

"Sorry." The law enforcer pologized for her ringing phone. A quick glance on the caller ID, Reyes silenced it. "Please go on." The nurse nodded understanding.

"Jeanne hid under her covers and won't come out. She started shouting 'I want officer' over and over." The nurse paused again when the interruption of the phone came the second time but Alec urged the conversation to continue. "We tried to coax Jeanne out of her covers but she just wrapped it more around herself and when the doctor…" This time, the nurse completely stopped as her attention shifted from the female officer. The detective followed the gaze of the muted nurse as they silently watched the nearby door creak open and a bundle of pink covers creeped out. The pinkish lump looked to be crawling on the floor much to one nurse's bewilderment and one detective's amusement.

"I guess I can see what you're talking about, nurse." Alec half grimaced when the pink bundle jolted up and tried jumping on her before the frantic screams of a little girl followed.

"You have to get me out of here!" Alec hurry!" Quickly moving her face away from the flailing arms of the bundle, Reyes gathered the pinky blob in her strong arms. Shooting the panicked nurse a reassuring glance, the officer secured her hold.

"Hey kid. What's wrong? The nurse is here, see?" The two adults watched as covers shifted and baby chocolate orbs peeked.

"Hi Jeanne." The said nurse smiled softly in greeting but kept a distance. "We have to bring you back inside to your bed and the doctor needs to check you."

"No!" Baby browns went back to her hiding.

"How about I bring her in and I'll see what I can do about the covers?" The dark haired officer hid her flinch with a sheepish smile when small hands clawed on her chest. "I promise to call if she's hurt or something." The reluctant nurse eventually agreed.

"I will check with the doctor and come into the room in a few minutes."

Left on their own, baby brown irises peeked again from its hideout. Jane was met with glaring bi-toned hues. "What was that for?" Alec hissed.

"I tried calling you!" The little girl hissed back. "We have a problem!"

"As you saw, I was talking to the nurse." Came the deadpan reply. Casting a quick glance around the hallway to make sure they were still alone, Alec whispered guardedly. "What's the problem?"

"Don't let the doctor see me." When no response came, Jane repeated. "I said don't let the doctor–"

"Geez Rizzoli, I didn't know you're scared of doctors that much. Whatchau do? Clawed the doc?"

"Shut it, Reyes!" Hearing footsteps, Alec went into the room. She surveyed the other child patients and their guardians before walking towards the far end crib bed. Most of the separating curtains were up since it was daytime. The adult brunette placed the little girl back on her bed before drawing one curtain close for their privacy.

"You can come out now, you know." Getting no response, Alec signed before hovering over the pink bundle. Jane yelped when her cover was yanked open and she came face to face with a smug looking Reyes under their now shared hideout. "What is it then?"

"The doctor, she knows me!" Heterochromatics stared in confusion though. "The doctor knows Jane Rizzoli!" And the clarification.

"Are you sure the doctor will recognize you?" Remembering the name tag earlier, the rookie furrowed her brows in concentration. "Dr. Cal something, last name starts with M. I couldn't see the full name earlier."

"Her name is Cailin Martin, she's Maura's younger sister." Rolling her eyes at the derisive expression of the older looking girl, Jane glared. "I'm not chancing it."

"And what did you do again?"

"I didn't have a choice, okay?!"

"Ahuh?"

"Ahuh me again and I'll kick your face out of the covers too!" Alec laughed incredulously at the huffing red faced child. "I was trying to crawl away and she grabbed the covers to peek in–" The laughing got worse. They heard a cough and the duo detectives froze.

"Detective Reyes?" The pediatric nurse from earlier looked astonished at the head covered and bent over the bed crib banister figure of the law enforcer. "Is everything okay?" Ducking out of the covers, Alec's embarrassed face met the concerned nurse.

"Ah yeah. We're okay. I was just… you know… the covers." Her hands moved animatedly explaining what the nurse walked into. "Jeanne is not hurt but she's scared of the doctors." Alec supplemented. "She thought the doctor would give her injections."

"I see." The nurse visibly relaxed before stepping closer to the said child's bed. "Jeanne, the doctor just wanted to see you earlier. No injections, okay? Can you come out of the covers now?" When no response came, the nurse turned to the other adult in the room. "May I speak with you, detective?" Receiving a nod the medical staff gestured to the door.

"Jeanne, I'll just talk to the nurse for a sec, okay? I'll be back."

"Okay." The nurse smiled politely at the little girl's acknowledgement before stepping out the room followed by Reyes. They walked towards the nurse's station and Alec noticed the floor was now clean and there was no sign of the bloodied commotion from earlier. The second nurse from earlier was now also busy behind a computer. Two toned irises didn't see the doctor though.

"Dr. Martin had to get her nose checked." On cue, the latter nurse answered the wonderment. "We apologize you had to walk in on the scene earlier."

"It's really not a problem." Apology waved, Detective Reyes tensed with the following words though.

"Jeanne has to be seen by a doctor though. She really seems to positively respond to you so the doctor advised us to talk to you, if you have time." The sound of the elevators dinged and indeed a doctor came accompanied by another person. Eyeing the visitor's badge before turning to the newcomers, the wary detective went with the introductions.

"I'm stepping in for Dr. Martin's rotation. My name is Dr. Lauren Lyons." Whilst the medical professionals went about their chart routine, the other visitor spoke.

"You must be the officer Reyes who brought the child to the hospital?" A handshake. "I'm from the child protective services. My name is Sarah Hopkins."

"Detective Alec Reyes." The lady Hopkins just raised an eyebrow at the curt reply. "What's going to happen now?" Heterochromatics turned to the doctor holding a patient chart for review.

"I was called in to do a final wellness exam so the patient can be discharged from the hospital."

"I understand your concerns, Detective Reyes." The child protective services personnel interjected. "But the child's welfare is out of your jurisdiction. Unless you are the legal guardian of the child then we cannot disclose any more information with you." The final tone had Alec grit her teeth.

"Well, can I at least say goodbye to the kid?" Matching the dismissive tone, the detective jabbed back. "Unless anyone wants to be kicked on the face also?"

"I will need a few minutes to review the chart with the child services. Go ahead detective. Nurse please accompany the detective in the room." With the permission of the doctor, Alec pivoted with her heel. Nurse in toe, they entered the said ward again.

Baby browns peeked again when her ears heard the footsteps. The dark haired enforcer gave the nurse a quick assuring smile before she dove her head back under the pink makeshift canopy.

"Good and bad news." Jane strained her ears to catch the hushed words. "You have a new doctor and I'll kick you myself if you harm Lauren. Child protective services is here."

"What the hell? Services already?"

"Well, your earlier kickboxing trick might have expedited it. I can't do anything now but I'll go to the lieu. Just make sure to keep the pup with you." They both glanced at the stuffed dog cradled by the little girl. "Come on." Emerging from the covers, Alec barely had the time to stand back up when footsteps came. Jeanne finally poked her head out and studied the new face in the room.

"Bye kiddo."

Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles

It was about lunchtime when Maura was released from the Angela Rizzoli interrogation session and the blonde ME decided she warranted a change of scenery so by 1pm hazel-green poles searched around the cafeteria of Massgen for a familiar brown haired sister. The new doctor had just started her hospital rotations and Dr. Isles wanted to personally congratulate Dr. Cailin Martin for her successful professional transition.

Spotting two women sitting by the windows, Maura sauntered towards the direction. Frappuccino on hand, the smile on the blonde doctor faltered a bit.

"Hairline fracture of the nasal bone."

"Thanks for the diagnosis, sis." Cailin rolled her eyes before snatching her favorite drink from the newcomer. "Maura, this is Dr. Lauren Lyons." She gestured to the other female occupying the seat.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Dr. Maura Isles." Handshakes were exchanged. Settling down on one of the chairs, the older sister looked disapprovingly at the younger sibling making loud sipping noises. "You should be icing that to help with your breathing and so you won't look like Mike Tyson as well." Another eyeroll and chuckling on the table.

"Yeah, laugh Lauren. You're lucky that the rascal did not kick you too." With the growing concern on her older sibling's face, Cailin brushed off her laughing colleague. "My first day on pediatrics and this kid patient decided to welcome me with a kick on the nose!"

Understanding what happened, the ME covered her mouth with a hand to hide her amusement. Although with the continued animated preting of Dr. Martin had the two blondes giggling.

"Isn't it supposed to be peek-a-boo?! Oh my god!" With accompanied exaggeration of the child's playtime, Cailin sighed heavily then nursed her drink but grimaced. "Great, where's that ice?"

"I'm sure the little girl didn't mean it. She was just scared." The other pediatric doctor reassured as she handed the ice pack to the grumbling physician. Shifting on her seat, Dr. Lyons glanced towards mirroring hazel-green orbs. "The child was brought in by an officer and based on preliminary physical examination, the patient had suffered abuse evident on visible old scars on the body."

"Did the child need medical treatment?"

"Fortunately, no." Maura nodded for the other girl to continue. "The child was lost at the amusement park panic yesterday according to the officer and was brought in to make sure the little girl was not harmed." With the mention of the incident from the other day, Dr. Isles remembered the other reason why she was at the hospital.

"Yeah and decided to harm me instead." Putting the ice pack down, Dr. Martin tapped her watch in front of the duo. "Thanks for the Frap, Maura." They all stood up as the Massgen medics headed back to their work.

"Cailin, don't forget Sunday dinner." She stood there for a minute till the backs of the two younger doctors disappeared from her view. Cailin waved a thumbs up but the honey blonde medical examiner saw someone else. Her younger sister did pick up some mannerisms from a certain brunette detective over the past years. Steadying herself, Dr. Isles rejoined the sea of bodies marching at the hallways. Her next destination; room 201.

Speaking of room 201, Rafael leaned more on his propped pillows as he reread the laptop screen. Thankful for the advancement of technology and touchscreen features, he extended his left arm and pushed an icon on the display.

"Hold on Lieutenant, I'll move my chair closer to the bed so you can see the screen better." Alec did as mentioned as she scooted her chair.

"That's better. Thanks."

They had been working on the computer for a couple of hours now. After leaving Jeanne earlier, Detective Reyes had gone back to the lieutenant. They had discussed what happened and was running out of positive moves till another phone call came. The robotic voice came on the line and the two detectives had to make a decision.

"We will have to get her photo for this." Pointing on the blank portion of the screen, the rookie navigated the contents of their study.

"You sure she's seven?" Nodding in agreement with what he's contemplating, Martinez focused on the basic outlines. "Let me see those papers too." Scattered folders littered on top of the bed.

"It came from the source." Leaning further to prop the device up, the dark haired female waited for the man to finish his inspection. "Some of the info I remember when I accompanied her at triage so it will match."

"Good, good–" "Shoot! Hide it–"

"Lieutenant Martinez." Dr. Maura Isles stopped by the doorway. Her gaze moved from two pairs of wide eyes to the multiple hands underneath the blanket then to said blanket… disheveled blanket. "I'm sorry. I'll come back–"

"No!" Came the chorused protests… again.

"Of course. I apologize for interrupt–"

"Oh hell no! Not again!" Alec bolted out the room.

"Hello Maura." Rafael coughed a greeting as he straightened out the blanket on his bed. They heard the clicking of heels and they knew they had to move. With only one hand available, Martinez only managed to lift his blanket as Reyes hastily gathered their materials and shoveled them under the covers thus what the blonde ME walked into.

"I would suggest closing the door for intimate activities although it is not advised to lock the door in case a medical emergency occurs and the nursing staff–"

"It's not what it looks like, Dr. Isles!" With the evident flustered face of the male patient, the blonde doctor relented. Maura walked in the room. Once beside the bed, she presented a small food container.

"Angela sends her regards." Rafael visibly relaxed with the change of topic. He accepted the gift with a grateful smile. "She said she'll try to visit you when she's not working." The detective groaned although the visitor interpreted it as for the difficulty opening the lid of the container. "Let me open it for you."

Few Angela's speciality cannolis and Cailin's first day story later, the two colleagues sat enjoying themselves in room 201. Martinez noted the better expressions of the ME. He smiled genuinely and settled his mind for the complicated choices he had to make as a lieutenant. He just hoped Jane made the right choice also. Soon there was a knock on the door and the younger brunette detective stepped back in the room.

"Sorry to interrupt Dr. Isles, Lieutenant Martinez, but there's a phone call from Robocop."

"Thanks for the visit and bringing the cannolis, Maura." Taking her cue to excuse herself, the honey blonde woman wished the recovering man a good day although she passed a seemingly innocent smile to the rookie law enforcer.

"It's official police business." Was the quick mumble of a reply from one Detective Reyes before Dr. Isles left room 201.

One more destination in mind, Maura walked once more the hallways of the hospital. She knocked on the familiar door before someone greeted her and the blonde ME was escorted in the room.

"Thank you again for extending the financial assistance of the Isles Foundation to help the expenses of the low-income victims of the accident…"

Meanwhile, one particular 'victim' of the accident sat on her bed. Baby chocolate orbs watched as her attending nurse tied the knot of the little girl's new shoes. It had been a few hours and Jeanne had been cleared by the physician for discharge. The Hopkins lady soon stepped in and talked to the child. Although Jane knew the system, it did not quell her anxiety and her fidgeting came naturally. Detective Rizzoli wouldn't admit it but if it wasn't for the similar hazel-green eyes comforting her, little Jeanne would have started crying.

"It will be okay, Jeanne." The silver blue toy on the bed was handed to the child as Dr. Lyons checked on the patient for the last time. Soft caring hands cupped baby cheeks as a thumb brushed away unshed tears. "Officer Alec picked out the puppy for you so you won't be alone." Even if those words were meant to reassure the child, Jane remembered how true those words were.

So for a few more minutes, Jeanne sat like a good girl with her stuffed puppy as the child services lady finished the little girl's paperwork.

"I see you're all set." Hopkins approached the child dressed in a flowery light dress with matching shoes. Jeanne just glared but took the hand of the older female. The friendly nurses bid them goodbye as the pair walked away from the children's ward.

It was still strange to her, walking in a child's body so for a couple of minutes, Jane struggled to keep up with the long strides of the adult female. Not to mention adjusting her literal viewing height of everything. The detective just barely oriented herself as they got to the main lobby towards the parking lot when familiar voices reached the little girl's ears then even more familiar faces rounded the opposite hallway from where they're passing by. Baby browns widened in horror.

"It's just funny that my sister and your girlfriend work at the same precinct. Can't this world get any smaller?" Cailin rolled her eyes as she spoke between the mentioned persons.

"I didn't know Dr. Isles have a sister." Alec replied calmly. After the police business session witht the lieutenant, the young detective noted the time. Since there's nothing else they can do on their side, Martinez respectfully dismissed Reyes. It is afterall the weekend and the rookie was technically officially not on the clock. Least to say, Alec was surprised to bump into Dr. Isles on her way to the pediatric department. Then meeting Dr. Cailin Martin. Let's just say, it was comical how Maura just had an eyebrow rose when Dr. Lyons introduced her girlfriend. Alec swore she almost had a panic attack when she saw the ME standing with her girlfriend albeit she'd swear she's having a second one when they rounded the corner. The two younger doctors were done with their work for the day and the foursome agreed to grab some drinks to celebrate the official first day at Massgen of Dr. Martin.

"Synchronicity is an attempt to come up with an explanation for the occurrence of highly improbable coincidences between events where there is no causal link–" Maura literally got cut off when the brunette detective stepped in front of her and the blonde ME caught off guard collided with the sudden barricade.

"What are you doing–" Before any more questions got thrown towards the cop's behavior, a shriek suspended the doctors' conundrums. Four heads shot to the source of the sound.

"Child! What are you doing?!"

They had locked eyes first much to the two detectives' relief when their paths intertwined. And luckily the medical nerds were engrossed in their conversation. It gave a momentary panic induced action solution by the brunettes, panic but effective. Reyes provided the literal cover and Rizzoli hid, the best way Detective Jane Rizzoli can think of, under the skirt of one lady Hopkins.

"Let go of my skirt–" Oh little Jeanne was not planning to let go anytime soon as she mustered the adrenaline pumped arms to grasp the fabric. She pulled hard towards where she remembered the direction of the exit doors. "Oh dear lord–" With the fear of losing her skirt and ending up bottomless, the child services lady could only grab the top of her skirt with one hand as she tried not to drop a folder from her other hand. Another great tug and Hopkins juggled out the door with a walking lumpy skirt.

Once the double doors closed, the four women busted out laughing. Alec and Cailin were openly guffawing while the two blondes tried their best to cover their amusement with a hand on their mouth.

"Oh my god! That was hilarious! Ow, ow my nose!" The nose-bruised doctor grimaced as her nasal injury throbbed but her laughs continued. "Stop laughing!"

Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles - Rizzles

She felt the breeze from outside and heard the automated doors close. Jane dared to peek from under her hideout. She trusted her partner-in-crime to reroute the group and was assured when her brown orbs saw the silhouettes turned away. Her grip loosened and immediately the little girl was face to face with a pissed off child services lady.

"Do not do that again." The chilly warning made the naughty young girl nod in obedience. "Now come and no more exhibitions." They had made it to the lady's vehicle and the child was buckled safely on the backseat. If it wasn't for the bizarreness of her transformation, Detective Rizzoli would have noticed the shifting of the car gears. It was when the car was parked when Jane snapped out of her reverie and noticed they were in an empty parking garage. Alarm bells went off her head and she started struggling with her seat buckle.

"No need to panic, Detective Rizzoli." Hopkins spoke from the driver seat. She pressed a button on the dashboard before the car interior was enveloped by the ringing of the speakers then the Robotic synthesized voice followed.

"Detective Rizzoli."

"What the hell? Who the fuck are you people?" Growling in anger, Jane tried to discreetly grab the stuffed toy.

"Your phone will not work." The matter of fact voice of the female on the driver seat. "And as I said, no more exhibitions." The clear warning was present and Jane understood it was not for a reprimanding a child.

"We are not going to harm you." The speakers blared again. "Although I advise your cooperation. You really don't have much of a choice right now."

"Yeah sure, kidnapping a child is not harmful."

"Actually, Hopkins can very well take you to social services and as you know, you will be placed in an orphanage given your current predicament. I reassure you it will be a far far orphanage."

"What the fuck do you want from me?!" She was beyond livid. Her gut instinct was telling her to still be a detective but Jane still couldn't believe what was happening. Her mind was screaming logic that these people can easily just kill her there.

"As I said detective, your cooperation." It was subtle but the robotic tone lowered. Gripping her stuffed puppy, Rizzoli did her best to reign her building apprehension. Her small body shook.

"As if I have a choice." There was a moment of silence.

"You have, Jane." The detective just looked incredulous at the dashboard console before the kinetic sound rumbled on. "It will be your choice. We will give you protection, new life, new identity–"

"Wait what? Witsec?"

"Essentially you are still a witness. We can only help you if you agree with our terms or we will surrender you to the traditional system."

"And the terms?"

"You will continue as Jeanne Blackwell and work for us."

Dun dun dun dun!

If it wasn't for the skirt scene playing on my mind I probably won't have a chapter for y'all!

Thanks in advance if you review.
