Chapter 49: The Sibling Complex

The Next Day

I was lucky enough that Fuka didn't rat me out to otou-san. But I would rather have had her tell him since now I am suddenly in debt with her. That's right, I am currently being blackmailed by my younger sister. As I was processing these thoughts, we now stood outside of the building where the Karate Club held their practices. Tamaki, Kyoya, Hikaru, Kaoru, Haruhi and myself were currently looking through their windows. Yasuchika had given them a break, but as soon as one of them mentioned Hunny, he made them go back to work. Not even a second later, Satoshi appeared and reprimanded him for doing that.

"He has a brother complex, that's all," Hikaru and Kaoru pointed out.

"It's only natural," Kaoru continued. "People are always comparing them because they look alike."

"Chika's eyes are perfectly fine. He just wears the glasses to look different," Hikaru mentioned.

"I didn't know that," I looked at Hikaru.

The two brothers looked at each other and nodded, "This is nothing out of the ordinary. Let's go do something more fun."

"Hold it right there!" Tamaki called out to them. "What's with the attitude? This was your idea! Didn't I tell you that even if there is some deeper reason for Chika's resentment, beyond the Karate Club incident, if Chika doesn't want it in the open, we should leave him be.."

"But you guys insisted. Tono, you don't have a brother! You couldn't possibly understand!" Hikaru and Kaoru held onto one another.

"We cannot bear to watch a feud between beloved brothers! Right Kaoru?"

"Yes, Hikaru, yes! We must impart upon Chika the true virtues of brotherly love!"

Forget That Heartless Swine Over There! We Will Help Those Brothers...

"That's what you said! And now you quit?" Tamaki pointed his finger repeatedly at the two.

"We thought we could dig up something more interesting."

Kyoya sighed, "It looks like this task force was just an excuse to have fun exposing Chika's secrets."

"They're horrible," Haruhi commented.

"I'm so glad they hang out with Fuka," I sighed with relief.

"We wanted to discover something like Chika is freaked out because he thinks Hunny is an alien," Hikaru claimed.

"Or maybe Chika secretly yearns for Mori-senpai, so he's jealous of Hunny for monopolizing Mori-senpai's affections," Kaoru added.

"Wouldn't that make Chika not like you too since Mori-senpai and you have a thing," Haruhi whispered.

"That's true. But then again, it's the Twins. They like being dramatic," I replied back in the same tone.

"Incidentally, take a look at this picture. If it were the latter, we were going to tell him not to worry, as Mori-senpai is equally nice to everyone," the Twins produced a picture. I went to take a look at it. This was obviously photoshopped.

"And if it were the former," Kyoya implied.

"There is no solution. Nothing can be done about an alien."

"You jerks! You're trying to toy with their feelings! Father will not tolerate-" Tamaki was interrupted.

"Tama-chan, it's okay," Hunny walked towards us along with Takashi.

"Hunny-senpai."

"So long as he's growing up well, I'm happy."

Spacing Out

"Um, he's already much taller than you," Hikaru and Kaoru pointed out. "He's grown enough."

"Way to ruin the moment," I sneered at the two.

Tamaki then shouted with worry how Hunny is going to leave to a far off world. They began to shout random things like computer viruses, rent, etc. Ladies and gentlemen, these are my friends.

"Excuse me, could you keep it down? You're disturbing practice," Yashuchika appeared out of nowhere.

Gack!

"Mitsukuni, I told you not to come near me at school! So prepare yourself!"

As I quickly pulled Haruhi away, Satoshi had appeared in the same rate.

"Ya-Su-Chi-Ka! No goofing off during practice!"

The way Satoshi had gripped his cousin resulted him in falling backwards. Hunny, worried for his brother, ran towards him to try and help him from falling.

"Watch out! Usa-chan cushion!"

But as he tried to helped, Yasuchika didn't approve of that idea. Instead he kicked him, sending the small senior off quite a distance. Hunny landed on the ground hard. We all panicked and ran towards him. Immediately, Takashi picked him up and ran towards the nearest infirmary. I stayed behind to look at Yasuchika, giving him a sad look, before running to catch up with the others. Once we made it to the Junior High's infirmary, the only ones that were allowed in were Takashi and Kyoya. Yasuchika and Satoshi appeared five minutes later. The two sat down and waited with the rest of us. Time went on when Kyoya finally appeared.

"It's a light concussion. He should come around soon. Mori-senpai will stay with him. We should let him get some rest."

"So he'll be okay," Tamaki reiterated.

"Yasuchika, did you hear that? It's good news," I placed my hand on his head soothingly.

"I'm sorry," Yasuchika began.

"Don't take it so hard," Tamaki told him.

"That's not what I meant. I just can't handle it - you know, the "Usa-chan" whatever. To tell the truth, my brother seems like an alien to me. He freaks me out."

From the corner of my eye, Hikaru and Kaoru high-fived one another. I just looked at Yasuchika and gave him the "this again?" look. Tamaki on the other hand just shouted in shock.

"What?!"

Yasuchika stood up quickly to defend his words, "What, doesn't it bother any of you?! I'm not just talking about his weird martial arts moves. That guy can eat three whole cakes in one sitting - right after dinner, no less! The other night, I woke up and saw light streaming in from the dining room..."

He began to explain that we he went to look inside, a demonic looking Hunny stared at him. He asked whether Yasuchika wanted to join him for some cake. When he didn't reply back, he "devoured" it all.

"That's terrifying isn't it?! He's too strange! You think he's cute? I think he's repulsive beyond belief!"

"That's how Hunny behaves at home?" Tamaki inquired.

"On second thought, I wouldn't have the courage to live with him either," the Twins admitted.

"I'm just jealous that he has great metabolism," I stated.

"Furthermore, what is Usa-chan anyway?! Is it some sort of radio receiver device? Does he use it to communicate with outer space? What?! To look like that guy is already disgusting enough. But to act like him and smile?! Why should I?! Shushing and cooing like him. Being complacent. Being bombarded by flowers everywhere I go?! Look how do you think the Karate Club rewarded him for his favor last week? They gave him ice cream! The great Haninozuka heir does favors for ice cream! Gyah! I want to slug him! Can't I just get rid of him now?!

He's Cracked

"Yasuchika, calm down," I tried soothing him. I gave a look to Satoshi and he nodded. He quickly restrained his cousin to try and calm him. After a few heavy breaths, he relaxed and Satoshi released him.

"Anyhow," Yasuchika reached for his glasses and placed them on, "I wear glasses to avoid losing my cool."

"So you won't look like him as much," Tamakai came to conclusion.

"No. They're prescription lenses, so that when I look at Mitsukuni, he's blurred out."

"That's dangerous!" Haruhi and Tamaki exclaimed.

Satoshi stared pensively, "You tell me the same story over and over, but it's no big deal. You're being too neurotic. If I set my mind to it, I bet I could handle two whole cakes myself. They aren't that sweet anyway."

"Shut up! You got no taste buds!" Yasuchika shouted.

Kyoya added more to it, "In addition, the person closest to him is quite insensitive."

"He must have felt anxious and alone," Tamaki sobbed.

"Despite everything, my brother and I used to be good friends. He might have preferred sweets and cute things a little more than normal, but there was a time when he shunned those kind of things completely. Then, someone deliberately misdirected him, telling him that strength comes from accepting one's true self. After that, he lost it and became the alien being he is now."

In Other Words...

"I see, Chika has been suffering because of what Tono did," Hikaru and Kaoru concluded.

"Come to think of it," Kyoya looked at Tamaki, "what did the Twins say? Something about there being no solution for a problem of this nature."

"There is one solution," Takashi opened the curtains that had blocked us from viewing them.

"Chika, I heard what you said. I'm sorry," Hunny began apologizing. "I never knew you hated sweets so much."

'That's not the issue here, Hunny,' I thought to myself.

"But you know, Chika, even if I change for you, and live how you want me to, it would still be awkward between us. I'm grateful for what Tama-chan did. And I won't change so easily. So, step outside, Yasuchika. We'll settle the matter like Haninozuka men."

Hunny led the group back outside to end this feud. Haruhi and I walked next to each other as I asked her how their last fight went. According to her, it went fast. For a moment, it seemed like the two siblings were blurs. She kept explaining when we stopped. Since when did Ouran have a windswept ridge? It's actually really pretty here. Hunny and Yasuchika made their way to face one another. It was silent for a minute before Hunny began to explain the terms.

"All right, Chika. One match. I'm sorry, but if I win, I'll remain the way I am now."

"And if I win?" Yasuchika inquired.

"I'll cut down on my sweets intake. A little."

"What?! How will that solve anything?!" Tamaki shouted in disbelief.

"How much is 'a little'?" I asked.

"At the very least, I won't eat at night," Hunny finished.

"Fine."

Is that really enough?

"All ready?" Takashi proctored. "Begin!"

"Chika, prepare yourself!"

I've seen Hunny fight before, but this was something new. He didn't hold himself back at all and I was amazed. Kicks and jumps were the first thing that I saw. The kicks were dodged and they each landed gracefully. Hunny then pulled out an extendable staff from who knows where and made his way to attack.

"Huh? Why do I have this sense of déjà vu? The flow is similar to what I glimpsed from the music room the other day," Tamaki noted.

"Well, maybe in reverse. This time, Hunny has the weapon," Hikaru and Kaoru noted.

"It's probably intentional on Mitsukuni's part," Takashi explained. "Yasuchika will now bring out the blades."

Just like Takashi predicted, Yasuchika did bring them out. Where do they keep all this stuff? Do they have extra pockets sown in somewhere?

"You're right!"

"Um, where was he keeping those blades?" Haruhi questioned.

"That's the question of the day, Haruhi. My guess, extra pockets," I told her without looking away. This fight was intense.

"I've watched them battle for years and years," Takashi spoke while looking at the two siblings battle. "Yasuchika will always use Mitsukuni's moves from the preceding match. Mitsukuni is aware of it. He always creates a chance for Yasuchika to test out new techniques. Yasuchika may call him an alien, but it's obvious he respects Mitsukuni as a martial artist and wants to be near him. One may not be able to see it, but they share the bonds of brothers. As brothers go, I think they're doing fine. I'm not worried about this match. Chances are that Mitsukuni will let his brother win."

Wow, that was beautiful.

"Prepare yourself, Chika!"

Hunny delivered the battle ending kick. We all stood in silence at this realization. Takashi slumped to the ground realizing that he was wrong. Hunny, on the other hand, jumped up and down in cheer. He was going to keep eating his cake at night.

"It's okay, Mori-senpai," Tamaki tried reassuring him.

"Yeah, Taka, you were awesome!" Satoshi tried to cheer his brother up.

I bent down and placed my hand on his back, "It's okay, Takashi."

With the help from Satoshi and Tamaki, we pulled up Takashi. Making sure that he wouldn't just drop to the ground again, I placed his arm around my shoulders. I looked up at him and gave him a reassuring smile. He smiled back and pecked my head. His own way of saying thanks. From where we stood, we saw Hunny kneel down to where Yasuchika was still catching his breath. He was telling his younger brother something that caused the same little birds appears around Yasuchika. It was so cute. He turned to look at the birdies, but when he did, he was facing us.

"Shut up, you're so conceited!" Yasuchika shouted, shooing away the little birds away. "I just let my guard down a little, that's all!"

"Don't be a sore loser," Satoshi hit Yasuchika on the back of his head. "Be a man! Admit your defeat with grace!"

"Ow! Ow! Stupid Satoshi! Th-That's enough, I don't like you anymore," he started to cry. Oh look, the little birds are back.

"I wasn't really angry. Don't cry, please!" Satoshi freaked for a second.

Yasuchika rubbed his eyes as soon as he noted that we were watching. He quickly stood like nothing happened and shouted, "Just remember this, Mitsukuni! Next time I'll win, no matter what! I'll drag you back down to Earth!"

As soon as he said that he ran off with Satoshi behind him, shouting that he shouldn't have said that to his brother.

"Chika seems to be more similar in nature to Hunny than he is different," Tamaki spoke aloud.

I sighed and just turned to look at Hunny, who was smiling. With a new suspicion born, the curtain closes on the episode about little brothers. But because of this, the "Hunny is an alien" theory is now forever stuck in our minds. I kinda can't look at Usa-chan the same way again.

"Time to go back and ensure that tomorrow's costumes are ready," Tamaki turned to look at us all.

"Do we really have to?" Haruhi and I whined. I really just want to sit down and eat a snack.

Instead of getting an answer, we were dragged back into the clubroom. I tried making my body more like deadweight, but it didn't work. Why? Because as soon as Kaoru started struggling dragging me, Takashi decided to help him and carry me over his shoulders.

"How many times have you done this to me?" I asked, avoiding looking at his butt. It's not my fault if I end up staring at it.

"I lost count."

He's probably grinning right now. It wasn't long before he placed me back down and made me take a seat on one of the couched. Haruhi slumped right next to me.

"It's okay. We're in this together," I patted her arm.

"Thanks Suna-chan," she smiled.

"Now since we already had Setsuna-senpai try on her outfits, it everyone else's turn," Kyoya told us while looking at his little book.

"Oh thank the stars!" I threw my hands up in the air.

"I thought we were together in this?" Haruhi gave me a look.

"We are. If Tamaki tries anything, I'll just deck him," I smiled.

"Thanks, you're the best."

"Anytime, Haruhi. Anytime."

Author's Note:

Here ends another chapter of Just Wait and See. I really love Yasuchika and Satoshi. Kinda sucks that you don't see much/or any at all in the anime. But in the manga you do! Now I do have a question for you all. Would you rather I continue using specific Japanese terms like honorifics (senpai, chan, etc.), names (tono, otou-san, etc.), cultural things, food, etc. or should I just cut it out? Just curious to hear you thoughts on that. Well I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. My New Year's resolution is to try and upload a chapter every week, if not every other two weeks. There is going to be a time when life is gonna get hectic, hence why I'm not gonna post on a specific day. Happy New Year to you all! I wish you all good health, happiness, and wonderful adventures.
