KG: Hey everyone. I know a lot of you are probably mad at me. You honestly have every right to be, but…I…did the thing I, over and over, said I wouldn't do. With lots of things I overstressed myself and I fainted at my job which landed me in the hospital for those two months. Doctor said I was suffering from some…medical terminology that I didn't get. Nope, not Ebola. Not that sick. Anyway, I'm now in some rehab. And my wife took my computer away only giving it back to me last month since I promised her I needed to get one of my stories out of my head. Luckily she allowed me to.
KG: Oh also, congrats to me. I am now officially married.
KG: Well anyway, let's make up for lost time, shall we?

What was a family? What was a home? If one had chosen to ask Naruto these two questions back when he was still in his foolishness he would have merely answered that a family was merely a united structure of hierarchy. There was merely the paternal figure, then the maternal figure, after them came the offspring, the eldest and the siblings that followed, or in the more common case, the single offspring. This was a family and the home was merely the private dwelling that they resided in. That had always been Naruto's belief. Honestly he never had much reason to view anyone as family. It's not like his childhood had permitted such. Naruto was willing to admit that his sensei's words held value. His past did shape him into the person he was today. However with that past came the confusion of how he felt a family should have operated. Naruto never experienced that familial warmth that so many children got to experience. And yet, Naruto understood now what it was like or rather to say he understood back then when he had learned of Atsui and Samui, his brother and sister. Them along with Exodus, Rinko, Touka, and Fu, Naruto found he had made them his family and his friends. Naruto would have more than willfully admitted it at this point. Perhaps he truly had changed. He wasn't sure. After all staring into the eyes of the older sibling you hadn't seen for a number of years tended to make you see the reality of the situation.
Naruto slowly stood to his feet. He took Atsui's form into his eyes. His brother really had grown considerably from when Naruto had seen him last time. He gave off a certain type of air that Naruto wasn't able to place, but he could tell that the elder blond had changed. Naruto could see the serious aura around his eyes. No doubt Naruto's leaving had done some unnecessary things to him. Naruto also took note of the silence in the room. Of course everyone was waiting for him to make the first move. "You've grown Atsui," Naruto remarked. Those words seem to release the room of the seal that kept the silence at bay. Naruto had to recoil in slight surprised as he felt his head pressed into Atsui's chest. One thing was for certain, Atsui had gotten considerably faster. Naruto felt Atsui's hand rest on the back of his blond, spiky hair. Atsui's opposite hand gripped Naruto into a tight hug. "You idiot. I should be saying that to you," Atsui spoke firmly. Naruto let his arms drop to his sides. Still his brother lived up to his name. He was still warm.
In the corner, Samui offered a small smile seeing the eldest and youngest of her siblings. As she looked around the room she noticed everyone was still in a mixture of surprise. It was understandable after all. She noticed that the hug didn't last as long as she might have wanted it to, but that was fine. She noticed Naruto and Atsui part. "Ranke, Temujin prepare some tea. Amaru keep an eye on Zaku and Kin-san. Inform me of any changes to either and I will be there as soon as I am able. I'm going to speak with Samui and Atsui," Naruto said quickly turning around and walking up the stairs. He stopped slowly seeing his three kits looking at him. Smiling, Naruto bent down and picked them up before proceeding up the stairs. Samui and Atsui glanced to each other before nodding. They proceeded to follow.
Swiftly moving like clockwork, Ranke and Temujin moved into the kitchen while Amaru went to check on Zaku's vitals and then tend to Kin. As those three moved off, everyone began to find themselves willing to move again. "So I am assuming that Naruto-kun has some type of history with Atsui-san and Samui-san?" Tsunami had been the one to speak. Slowly Kisa and the others turned to her. They had forgotten that she only recently joined the company. Kisa looked back at the stairwell. "That's right, you wouldn't know. Well I suppose you would have to know eventually. We all don't really talk about it that much. Sorry, but only Naruto can tell you the complete story, but what I will tell you is that while Naruto didn't have a mother or father growing up he still had siblings though he never found out until later on. By blood, Samui and Atsui are his half-siblings. Everyone in this room save yourself, Zabuza, Haku, and Inari know why. Though I suppose if you look at them, know Konoha's history, and take some things into account then you can figure it out," Kisa replied. Tsunami blinked and slowly nodded before following Kisa's vision back to the stairs. Kisa's eyes shifted to Zabuza. She could already see the gears of his mind working. No doubt he would get it soon enough. Kisa chuckled to herself.
-With the siblings-
Naruto opened a door which led to the roof. He stepped outside, the warm air hit his face. "Tou-san, are you okay?" Touka asked looking at her father figure worriedly. Naruto sent a small smile down Touka's face. He gently pulled his hand over her fur inciting a small yip of pleasure. "Yes Touka. I'm fine. Arigatou," Naruto spoke. Touka turned to glance at Rinko and Fu. It was obvious that none of the three truly believed his words, but their father had never lied to them before so they doubted that he would have done so now.
Naruto leaned against the railing of outer platform of his house. He looked out into Konoha. How long had it been since he learned that he had siblings? He wasn't sure. Even now he recalled his impassive treatment to both. Don't misunderstand him. Naruto was…not sure how he was supposed to feel. He didn't know what he was supposed to do with them. It's not like he had known them from birth. Unfortunate circumstances had seen to that, but Naruto had learned. It took longer than what might have been needed for him to fully come to appreciate both for what they were to him. Naruto couldn't help but smirk. Fate was sometimes a cruel, but forgiving mistress.
Soon Naruto heard footsteps. He turned around and noticed Atsui and Samui appear from the door that became the connection between the inside and outside. Atsui closed the door. "How have you been Naruto?" Samui asked rather calmly. Naruto closed his eyes for but a second before opening them once again. "I've been well Samui. I missed you guys," Naruto stated. Samui and Atsui glanced to each other before Atsui walked forward and folded his arms.
"If you really missed us then why didn't you attempt to contact us? We would have left Kumo in an instant if we had known you had been alive. Do you have any idea how worried we were?!" Atsui asked heatedly. Samui patted him on the shoulder. Atsui took a deep breath, and with a shake of his head, tried to calm down. Both noticed Naruto didn't shy away from their words. He just looked at them with an unknown expression. How funny that he had their father's glare, at least from the picture Samui and Atsui had seen. Naruto dropped his hands to his sides and he pushed himself off the railing.
"I have an idea now. Also if you harbor any resentment to Kisa and Exodus for not telling you then please blame me for that as well. I told her and the others not to tell you. Understand that it wasn't my intention to deceive you both. It also wasn't my intention to…reunite with you like this. That was foolish I suppose," Naruto remarked. Atsui tightened the grip of his palms. He moved forward. Samui didn't speak.
"But why?! Why wouldn't you tell us? I don't care how smart or strong you are. It's…the older sibling's duty to take care of their younger sibling," Atsui mentioned. Naruto nodded slowly. "I understand that. However if that is the older sibling's duty…then it's the younger sibling's duty to offer support and trust to their older sibling," Naruto responded with a stern expression. Atsui and Samui frowned, however Samui was the one who spoke.
"Explain," Samui said with a light glare. One that Naruto effectively matched. If there was one thing anyone could say about the three blondes then it was that all had impressive glares that could make anyone cringe at their sight. Naruto's didn't soften as he spoke. "Konoha found me. I was treated with extreme caution. Not because they saw me as a threat, but rather because they had reclaimed their jinchuuriki from the Fourth Great Shinobi War that was going on at the time. All three of us know about it. I couldn't subject the two of you to what I endured. I didn't recognize it at the time, but I found that I cared too much about you both to do that. I was placed under 24-hour/7-day surveillance. I underwent multiple sessions with Yamanaka members of what happened to me. I believe it is only because of Kyuubi that they hadn't discovered anything. I wasn't about to have Konoha take the chance of discovering you both plus the things that we had done. It was a long time, but I went free. I had to convince Konoha that I was still what they wanted of me under the guise of staying away from the foolish citizens that tried to harm me. So I continued sensei's training on my own until I finished the academy and moved into the Forest of Death. The both of you wouldn't have gotten that opportunity. The three of us know it," Naruto answered. Samui and Atsui frowned. Naruto blinked. They had gotten faster as Naruto felt his head against Atsui's chest. Samui placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder.
"You stupid ass, who cares about that? I dare Konoha to try anything. You are all we have left Naruto. The only thing we care about is your life. That alone is enough for us to do what we do," Atsui answered. Naruto frowned. This was still very uncomfortable. Yet, Naruto sighed. Looks like Anko was changing him in ways he had not foreseen. The old Naruto would not have let this affection persist. Just like he wouldn't have let it persist when Amaru and the others cried for him, but now…he was merely content. "However I am sorry. I was foolish. I…truly missed you both," Naruto replied. Atsui smirked while Samui lightly smiled. Both wrapped their arms around Naruto. Naruto closed his eyes tiredly. The combination of his training with Anko, the surgery of Zaku, and everything else, came crashing over him. For once in his life, Naruto was drained of the day's events. The same could easily be said for Samui and Atsui.
-With Amaru-
Amaru wiped a bead of sweat from her brow as she finished writing down Kin's information on a notepad. The young woman was nowhere near as life-threatening as Zaku had been. So far she was just experiencing a few fractures and some chakra exhaustion which Amaru had fixed while Naruto had been working on Zaku. As she looked at Kin's body, Amaru sighed. She really wished she was as good at such a thing like Naruto was, but Amaru just wasn't capable of over the top surgery at the moment. Naruto always told her that she would get there eventually and that rushing one's own progress would lead down the path to failure. Amaru sighed once again. A moan spooked her. Amaru looked up and noticed Kin squirming. The raven-haired girl's eyes opened and took into account her surroundings. "You finally woke up!" Amaru said with a small smile. Having spent a good most of her life traveling with Naruto and the makeshift Exodus family Amaru felt she could tell the signs when shinobi felt cornered. She could see the look on Kin right now. No doubt she would have been reaching for a kunai if Amaru hadn't placed those elsewhere. "I wouldn't move if I were you. The injuries I helped might be worse if you try to move," Amaru said. Kin sent her a light glare.
"Z-Za…ku, h-h-h…ow is…," Kin tried to speak, but the pain was easily unbearable. Kami, not even her most intense training sessions had been this brutal. Thankfully, Amaru had her covered. "Zaku is fine. Naruto-sama checked into him. He's resting in a separate room from your own. I treated most of your injuries," Amaru remarked. Kin flinched at the mentioning of one of the Chunin candidates' names. Her neck suddenly found her head's weight to be heavy. She proceeded to place it into the pillow as she looked up at the ceiling.
"Is the guy Zaku's…Aniki?" Kin asked rather reluctantly. She didn't even know why she was asking the question. She was sure that was the case. She had been fading in and out so she wasn't sure if Zaku had answered her on that or not. Kin was just tired for today. However her ears twitched upon hearing soft laughter. She painfully looked up to see Amaru snickering to herself. Kin frowned. She didn't remember saying something funny. That damn redhead had better be lucky that she was bedridden or Kin would do unspeakable things to the girl, savior or not.
Amaru looked up to see Kin staring at her with something akin to annoyance. Amaru quickly corrected herself and cleared her throat. "Ah gomen I don't mean to laugh. It's just the nostalgia making me laugh. Throughout our family's travels every single person that Naruto-sama has saved or recruited they all call him Aniki. He finds it…uncomfortable but we know he knows we like to call him that so he relents for us," Amaru answered. Kin raised an eyebrow. People calling the guy 'Aniki' was a normal thing for them? How strange could all of this shit get? "You mentioned recruitment. What was he recruiting for?" Kin asked. At this Amaru didn't lose her smile, but Kin noticed that it had taken a firmer tone than it had previously.
"Well I can't tell you that. Granted I doubt you'll be telling anyone seeing as how you're stuck to that bed for more than a couple of weeks, but Naruto-sama doesn't like to take risks. Plus he's not ready for it to be public knowledge just yet. Just know that what we do holds a higher purpose that what our front states. If you manage to piece that together then I can't stop you. Please get some sleep. I'll go to the store tomorrow and get some supplies," Amaru admitted before opening the door. She turned out the light and then closed said door which left Kin alone in the darkness. Kin looked up at the ceiling. "Recruitment for what?" Kin asked herself. No doubt this was going to plague her until she got answers from Zaku, but they were safe for the moment and right now that was all that mattered.
-Next morning-
Naruto slowly opened his eyes and looked at his ceiling. Judging by the softness of sheets and the smell of scented candles, he was in his room. Had he fallen asleep? How unbecoming and embarrassing. As Naruto tried to lean up he noticed that both his arms were trapped. Naruto looked to his left. There slept his elder sister, Samui. He looked to his left. There slept his elder brother, Atsui. Naruto felt…pressure on his stomach region. Looking up he noticed Rinko, Touka, and Fu at their individual cramped places on top of him. Naruto's mouth contorted into a flatline. He shook his head. This seemed to be becoming a common occurrence and one that Naruto wasn't sure how he was supposed to feel. Not even with these two. Perhaps some would find that sad and disheartening, but Naruto hardly cared. He took a deep breath. "I know you're awake," Naruto spoke. He turned to his left to see Samui looking at him. "If you're confused then be cool, we asked Kisa where your room was. You fell asleep. Atsui carried you to your room. We decided to sleep here for the night," Samui responded to Naruto's unknown question.
"I suppose I should have expected this outcome. Despite your personalities the two of you are actually quite stubborn," Naruto remarked. Samui didn't move, but she did respond. "Only when it comes to you little brother," Samui replied back to him. Naruto nodded to himself before leaning himself up. He slowly shifted his arms to carry his three kits into his grasp. Expertly, Naruto removed himself from the bed.
"Your team and Raikage-sama will be worried about you two. After breakfast we should part ways…temporarily," Naruto said stressing the last word making Samui lean forward. "Naruto, we have already made our choice and a part of the choice was our decision to not become Konoha shinobi. Make no mistake that if my nation or friends attacked you then I…no we would defend you as we should, but we will not willingly go into a fight with the people we trusted. It's not cool," Samui attested. Naruto nodded. He knew that very well and he didn't hold it against them.
"That was something I expected. Normally I would try to dissuade from such actions, but I know you won't listen to me. That's how you two have always been," Naruto remarked. Samui just nodded before she watched him make his way into the shower. The blonde-haired Kumo kunoichi shook her head for getting up as well. She'd take a bath when she returned to her team's hotel. The same might as well have been said for Atsui. Still Samui had to admit, this was the most peaceful sleep that she had in a long time.
As Naruto turned on the shower, he gently began the process of waking his three foxes. "Time for a bath you three," Naruto announced. With three individual yawns, each fox dropped to the ground. Naruto watched them stretch their bodies. Naruto smiled when he watched Touka and Fu hop into the bath, their fur was already soggy as they warm water relaxed their tense muscles. Naruto then proceeded to turn back and he noticed Rinko still on the floor looking at him with…worry. Naruto's expression turned serious which, considering it was him, didn't change that much. Naruto picked Rinko into his arms. "Something wrong?" Naruto asked. Rinko looked up to his eyes before she did her best impression to look unconcerned.
"Father you…you're so busy. We don't see you around much. I just…I worry that you are overworking yourself," Rinko admitted. Naruto blinked and then, without warning, turned around. "Do you feel the same way?" Naruto asked looking towards Touka and Fu. The two foxes slumped their heads into the water trying to hide their faces, but Naruto could clearly see that their eyes conveyed their meaning. Naruto closed his eyes. he had really been gone for so long? Granted yes this was the Chunin exams and he knew that his kits knew that. They knew that he wasn't going to have as much time with them as he would have liked to have for training, but then again Naruto supposed it wasn't just the chunin exam, but everything else in general.
Naruto opened his eyes. "Very well. If we all think that then I will take this day off," Naruto announced surprising the three of them entirely. "No Father, you don't have to do that. We just…," Touka didn't get to finish as Naruto picked the three up into his embrace once again. Naruto ignored their wet feeling.
"Remember you three. You're all my kids. If you feel something is wrong then it is my job to listen and erase that something. There is never not enough time for the three of you," Naruto said. Rinko, Touka, and Fu widened their eyes to his proclamation. None of the three could stop the smiles that appeared on their faces. Naruto didn't stop the smile on his face as well. Appreciate what yo have for you might not have it tomorrow. That's what his sensei always told him.
Once all four exited the bath, Naruto quickly dressed himself and the four walked down the stairs. As they did all four smelled the aroma of a well-cooked breakfast. They made their appearance. Naruto noted the absence of Kisa and Tsunami at the table as well as a couple of others. The person setting the food had been Amaru with the help of Temujin. Naruto saw Samui looking at their older brother with a sigh. Naruto saw Atsui just looking at the food hungrily. "Amaru-chan's food is still the best I have ever tasted," Atsui complimented much to Amaru's joy and shy embarrassment. "Well you'll be going back today so I figured I would see you two off with a good breakfast. Hope you like it," Amaru mentioned. Atsui and Samui said their grace as Naruto and his kits made their appearance known.
"You've improved Amaru," Naruto admitted. "Naruto-sama!" Amaru jumped in surprise. Everyone in the kitchen turned around to see the young blond enter. Naruto took his seat while Temujin passed the three foxes their plates. Naruto said his prayer before he started eating as well. Amaru really had improved in her cooking Naruto could see. No doubt she had truly taken a lot of lessons from some of the other cooks and chefs that Kisa no doubt hired. Naruto wasn't really sure what to think.
"How are Zaku and Kin-san?" Naruto asked rather suddenly. Amaru perked up at the question before setting a cup of tea next to Naruto's plate. She moved to speak. "Zaku is still resting in the infirmary room. Kin-san is also taking up one of the spare bedrooms. I just administered her some medicine. She had complained about some pain around her abdomen, which I thought wasn't abnormal since the lower region that connects her hip to her spinal column had been fractured slightly. She's actually pretty lucky that her sternum wasn't cracked as well, but I think her muscles and body fat cushioned that blow enough," Amaru answered. Naruto slowly nodded.
"Zaku's here? Why would he be here?" Atsui asked taking another bite of his food. Right next to him, Samui looked up. "He was a part of the Oto genin team that came to the Chunin exam. They were qualified for the final just like mine and little brother's teams. However I don't think that will be happening as it is," Samui said. Atsui narrowed his eyes to her comment, but the chunin didn't speak.
"Also the reason he's here is because he and his partner, Kin, were attacked. I read Naruto-sama's medical report last night. I also don't doubt his medical knowledge. After all, he taught me the things that I know along with Shinnō-sensei. He said that mostly likely the state of their being was made possible by…Kabuto Yakushi-san," Amaru said. Instantly everyone heard the sounds of broken glass and looked over in Atsui's direction. Shattered pieces of his tea cup and his drenched hand were the only evidence of the deed.
"Yakushi Kabuto!" Atsui hissed out disdainfully in his thoughts. Images of the white-haired medic-nin raced through the trenches of his mind. Atsui could feel his chakra responding to his anger. It just felt like the raging inferno of his hot soul wishing to burn the second-in-command to Orochimaru in nothing but a burning pile of ash that blew away never to be seen again. After all it was his fault. Everything that happened his been his fault and his fault alone! Atsui would make him pay for what he did! Suddenly Atsui found himself in darkness. The feeling of hands over his eyes made him tense. "Breathe Atsui. Don't go doing anything asinine. Just…breathe for me," Naruto said firmly. Atsui took in the darkness. His hands stayed clenched before he sucked in a breath. He then slowly exhaled and unclenched his palms.
"It's alright Naruto. I've calmed down my hot soul," Atsui claimed. Naruto took his hands off Atsui's eyes. Atsui opened them and noticed the others looking at him. "Gomen, I've calmed down now," Atsui reassured the others. Samui quickly placed a hand over his shoulder. Atsui just nodded to her as Naruto sat back down in his seat. Atsui took a few more calming breaths.
"Ah Naruto-sama, Fugai wanted me to pass a message to you. She said that we won't be seeing her, Ryuzetsu, Sai-san or Haku-san for the rest of the coming weeks. She says she plans on having them follow…the Ghost training protocol," Temujin said. Naruto didn't show any visible signs that he had cared, but the look that he gave Temujin was more than enough for the blond young soldier to know his fellow blonde's thoughts. "I see," were the only words to escape Naruto's lips.
As the breakfast went on, Naruto proceeded to speak with Samui and Atsui about the up and coming Suna-Oto invasion. He told them to inform their Raikage as best they could and be prepared should anything have happened during the Chunin finals. Naturally Samui and Atsui had been…disbelieving of the information, but when told of recent reports and accounts that had come forward it was easy for them to quickly change their minds. Though odds that it was merely their younger brother telling them these things had all the more meaning. Atsui said that he would deliver the information to the Raikage. Samui said she would continue training with Karui and Omoi to prepare herself to assist Konoha. Contrary to popular belief, Kumo respected Konoha's strength and Karui always boasted that if anyone was going to take out Konoha and make them submit then it would be Kumo. Samui had just rolled her eyes at the time.
With breakfast over, Samui and Atsui opened the front door. Naruto watched them. "We'll be seeing you soon little brother. You're not disappearing on us again," Atsui said before Samui moved over to him. Naruto raised an eyebrow, but he wasn't expecting a light kiss to the cheek for a response. "Please don't disappear again," Samui said with a look that Naruto wasn't able to place. However he could feel the feeling behind her words. Naruto just nodded as best he could. He gently swore to her that he would try not to disappear like he had last time. Samui merely took his words to heart before she and Atsui left the house. Naruto watched the front door for a little while.
"Amaru, Temujin watch Zaku and Kin-san. I'll be gone for most of the day. Inform me if anything goes wrong with either and i will be back as soon as I can. I'll be seeing you later," Naruto said. Amaru and Temujin nodded with individual bows of their heads as Naruto walked out of the door, his kits in tow. The door closed behind him leaving the two young teens alone. Amaru looked to Temujin and the blonde looked back. "Game room?" Amaru asked. Temujin smirked.
"Game room," he replied before the two raced off through the house and down a corridor with rather large grins attached to their faces.
-With Naruto-
A total of two hours. That's how much time had passed by for Naruto as he watched his kids run around like the foxes they were. He couldn't stop the smile on his face at their happy expressions. Sometimes Naruto truly wished he hadn't taught them ninken techniques. However even though they were his kids they were also murderers. They had told him what had happened back at Tsunami's house. Naruto had figured it would happen which was why he left them behind, yet…he really wished those paws weren't stained with the life of the living. It only served to give Naruto more reason to be distanced from worldly matters, but no matter how hard he tried he could never let it go. Anko was a case in point. The smiling kunoichi had an uncertain way of getting under the blonde's skin. And the strange part was that Naruto didn't truly mind it at all. Granted at the beginning he would have wanted a lot less, but what about now? Naruto wasn't sure. He admitted he had changed due to his partnering and his acceptance of outside help, but…
"Tou-san!" Naruto looked up upon hearing his name called. He saw the three of them play fighting with each other. Fu struggled to playfully bit Touka's ears while Rinko pulled at her tail. Touka yipped in laughter. Naruto gently smiled. His sensei always told him that the human being's true power always surfaced when something important was in peril. A similar philosophy to Haku's now that Naruto thought about it.
"Still sensei, I do not believe it. I just can't share in your ideal of true peace. In this world where there is a constant difference of opinion then there will always be misunderstanding and that misunderstanding will bring hatred. Nothing can break this chain. Sensei, humans are a flawed species," Naruto thought closing his eyes for a moment. He let the gentle wind blow on his face. Know that Naruto respected his sensei's thoughts, opinions and plenty of other things, but as far as agreeing with that particular one…then it was impossible.
-Hokage Mansion-
Kisa tapped her arm on her shoulder. Right next to her sat Tsunami reading over a little bit of the contract in front of her. "I see the loophole now. Interesting that we almost missed this," Tsunami replied while Kisa swiftly stood to her feet startling a few council members present. "Just based on that alone I should terminate our contract right now! Whom do you think your messing with here?!" Kisa asked firmly. Sarutobi cleared his throat which only served to hide his embarrassment and his shame. In the corner Danzo was clearly clenching his cane tightly. The fools. The stupid fools! Danzo would have Sarutobi disband this council! He swore it.
"We apologize for this Kisa-san," Sarutobi said bowing his head deeply. Kisa sucked her teeth. "Did you think Exodus didn't have its own contacts within this village? That was another stipulation we agreed to! We know all of the up and coming business whether they are popular or not. You think that just because you have a young blacksmith in Uzumaki Naruto that, by some miracle, came across a metal that can match ours that we disband? Not likely," Kisa reminded. Sarutobi swiftly nodded.
"The actions that stand before you are merely the works of children Kisa-san. The civilian juncture is largely unsure of professional business dealings like they have in the market district. Please wipe this incident away from Konoha's record," Danzo asked. Kisa grumbled to herself. "You can't just expect me to go for that right? Did you honestly believe that just because you got another blacksmithing business than you would end it like this? I'm insulted. If you wanted to end it so fast then I can definitely end it for you. Along with any funding that you were using our money for," Kisa spoke forcing many in the room to grimace. It wasn't a secret that Konoha had depended on Exodus during aftermath of the Kyuubi incident. Exodus had pulled them out of their debt to many different contractors and only asked for the partnership of seven of Konoha's business which they still had either one or two remaining. Sarutobi had actually lost count.
"Please rest assured that we're looking into the matter Kisa-san personally. Konoha has not forgotten the kindness that Exodus has shown the village. I'm not sure I can promise you that this won't happen again, but I will work to make sure that you understand how truly sorry we are," Sarutobi replied. Kisa snorted before folding her arms. Though one had to understand this predicament. Last night while Naruto had been working on Zaku, Kisa had been catching up on her business reports that she had let get away from her when she had be moping about her daughter. Kisa had run over the reports that made the juncture between Exodus and Konoha. It was obvious to say that Kisa found a particular problem. She had looked over the contract to see if she was doubting herself and her assumptions, but no she wasn't wrong. Exodus had been partially swindled. From the six businesses that Exodus had as part of its agreement with Konoha as being its main supplier it was always given a fixed portion of revenue sales which came from those businesses and in return for that profit Exodus would return it in the form of weapons for Konoha or other precious metals that could be smelted down for anyone's personal use. However recently there had been a decline in the stock share value between the businesses and Kisa only now noted the loophole that Konoha found. If profit was taken out of the first three month's of a business's day by day events then Exodus would continue to lose money, but it will still be within the confines of the contract since Exodus agreed to the action itself. KIsa could almost berate herself for not catching it. To think Konoha actually had the balls to go through with it though.
"And I'll personally be making sure that this never happens again Sandaime Hokage. Please trust that should this happen again then Exodus will take its business elsewhere," Kisa threatened and Hiruzen knew that it was a threat she was more than capable of delivering. He and the rest of his council could only bow to both Kisa and Tsunami. The latter watched the former gently sit down while erasing the creases in her business suit. She took the moment to calm herself. "Tsunami, read them the report," Kisa said rather tiredly. Tsunami just nodded and stood to her feet. Granted one had to mind Tsunami for her nervousness. She had never been in a business setting before and this tense atmosphere was making her anxious. How did Kisa deal with it all? However Tsunami would give it a shot. How hard could it be? Kisa had offered to go through several scenarios with Tsunami preparing her for the business world. For Tsunami it didn't look too complicated.
"As you all know or are about to know, I am the head of the Exodus Shipping Division that has based itself within Wave over the last couple of months. Though we are a new division I ask that you not make light of us and our sea influence. We have been busy dealing with many other businesses along the seas as well as making trading deals with the local sailors and ship merchants. As per my and Kisa's instructions, for the rescue of Wave, Konoha is to receive twenty-five percent of the total gross payment every six months that revenue is produced. This was first established prior to Gato's taking of Exodus' property which had been Wave at the time. Now then, as to the recent…events that have transpired then around this month then Konoha will drop to twenty percent for the next six months. Kisa-san and I argued over what was acceptable and we believe this to be a beneficial price range. We will still fund as many projects as you wish us to, but we will keep receiving the preliminary and final test results for the project as always," Tsunami said before taking a breather.
"That is acceptable Tsunami-san, Kisa-san. I will tell you that our latest projects are being done to the best with the funding that you have provided us. Overall Konoha has seen a general increase in civilian and shinobi market value of shops, traders, and merchants which only serves to beneficially increase both of our revenue," Sarutobi answered. Kisa and Tsunami slowly nodded.
"Very good. We will be expecting the project for what your science division talks about. I believe you spoke of a drug which increases the use of brain capacity. We're interested in the research. Be sure to give us the final results and before you test it out we will be giving it a look over," Kisa said in a way that left no room for an argument though she noticed that many people would have liked to argue her.
"This is most definitely the agreement, but understand our concern of this getting out towards the other nations or even rival businesses which are in league with those nations. Understand that we would be…uncomfortable if either Aeterna, or Ayano received their information especially considering that the three of you businesses are allowed to keep a shinobi force. We can't tell what you might be doing," Danzo implied. Kisa chuckled dryly to herself. "Hmph you do your job and Exodus will do it's own. This meeting is dismissed," Kisa said standing to her feet. Following her, people started to get up as well. Kisa walked out of the room and Tsunami followed behind her.
As the two women came into one of the main areas, Kisa patted Tsunami's shoulders. "Next time, don't try to be so stiff. You were like a board," Kisa snickered. Tsunami slumped her shoulders. "Did I look that way? I've never done this before Kisa-san. I can't imagine you doing it," Tsunami replied tiredly which earned another snicker form Kisa's lips. Tsunami just tried to ignore it and catch her breath at the same time.
"Well this type of stuff takes some getting used to. I wasn't expecting you to actually do as well as you did so…good work," Kisa responded. Tsunami chuckled mirthlessly. She felt like she should have been insulted if that wasn't true. "However don't relax yet. We're going to be very busy today. As virtually a co-CEO for this company you're going to have to accompany me to most meetings or project unveilings here and there around the world. You and I are going to be doing a lot of traveling and today we will be visiting all of the Konoha facilities for project testing," Kisa said. Tsunami wasn't sure what prompted her to ask, but she did. She would come to regret it soon.
"How many testings are going on?" Tsunami asked. Kisa placed a finger to her chin in thought. "Last time I checked, about…between twenty or thirty," Kisa answered. The color drained from Tsunami's face. Kami give her strength.
-With Naruto-
Naruto opened his eyes tiredly. Looking down he noticed his kits had stopped playing and had curled themselves around his body. Naruto had long since memorized their individual weight. With this stillness he could feel their separate heartbeats. It told Naruto that they were alive. Naruto closed his eyes. What did it mean to be alive? He believed himself to be alive, but was that as simple as he thought he could make it out to be? He didn't think so. Naruto ran his fingers through their fur. All three purred from his touch, but didn't move from whatever dreams they were having. Naruto looked up at the sky. Naruto recognized that ever since he had been born things were expected of him. He hadn't been sure by whom, but they were expectations nonetheless. Naruto grunted.
Standing to his feet, Naruto gently placed his kits into the grace in the attempt to not disturb them. As he walked a few feet, Naruto raised his hands into the air. He then swiftly and suddenly weaved through separate handsigns. "Katon: Goka Mekkyaku," Naruto uttered unleashing a stream of roaring flames through the forest setting it ablaze and turning the surrounding trees to ash. Naruto's eyes took in everything. He could feel how well-crafted his katon jutsu was. He could also see the bright hot flames of the technique incinerating everything in their pathway. Of all the jutsu that Naruto wanted to learn this had been one of the lowest on his list and it was only when he had Anko could he have made it happen. Her control has enhanced his own to the point where he could now control this. As Naruto had found the jutsu after this one was a little easier.
As Naruto kept the flames going, He quickly made another handsign. Quickly a water clone appeared at his side. Naruto sent the clone and knowing glare which the clone reciprocated. The clone sped through the handsigns as best it could. "Suiton: Ōuzu Matoi no Jutsu( Water Release: Great Whirlpool Enfolding Technique)," The Naruto clone uttered forcing a sizable rust of water to spring from its mouth. The original watched in slight satisfaction as the flames and the water danced next to each other. However it was impossible for the two not to meet. Naruto and the clone watched both collide bringing a large amount of steam. The two glanced to each other. Naruto nodded. The clone narrowed his eyes. His thoughts were easily visible to the blonde.
"Is that necessary? This is just a certain practice," Naruto read the clone's thoughts before looking forward. "I know. I just want to test something. We'll stop soon," Naruto mentally responded. The clone turned forward. Simultaneously, Naruto made one more handsign while the clone did the same. Suddenly the flames from Naruto's Katon technique burned hotter somehow managing to overcome the water if only for a moment before the clone splashed more water in greater force. The two bashed mercilessly against each other covering the forest in steam before both suddenly stopped. With a quick Fūton technique, Naruto brushed the steam away into the atmosphere making it dispel. This action left Naruto and the clone standing in the field alone.
"I would imagine that we didn't get our result because we both know that fire and water are natural opposites. Granted I understand what you wanted to do, but the flames go out too fast to heat the water itself," The clone said and Naruto nodded. "I agree. We'll have to investigate this some other time. Futton was never meant to be easy even for the most experienced water or fire users," Naruto remarked. The clone nodded before it suddenly looked to the left.
"We have a presence," it stated. Naruto nodded. He had sensed it just as soon as he had started his jutsu. He supposed it was only a matter of time before they met though he wished that they almost never did. "Are you going to come out? It doesn't matter either way. You know you're not supposed to be here," Naruto spoke firmly. No sooner than had the words left his lips did he see Sabaku no Gaara come from the trees. Naruto rose an eyebrow. He didn't believe he had anything to do with the jinchuuriki of the Ichibi, but then again Naruto doubted his fellow genin even needed a reason to do this. Naruto did nothing when he noticed the sharp, almost unstable look in Gaara's eyes.
"Uzumaki Naruto…fight me," Gaara said with dark expression on his face. Naruto already noticed the sand protruding from his gourd. Naruto just stared with a hardened expression upon hearing Gaara's request. "No," was Naruto's reply. As he had expected, that didn't sit well with Gaara as the grin on his face suddenly got bigger.
"I wasn't asking you Uzumaki Naruto. If I kill you then I truly will feel alive. My mother is strangely annoyed by your existence. I will kill you, Uchiha Sasuke, and Haruno Sakura. Mother had some hatred for her. She asks me to destroy her at all costs," Gaara said making Naruto's glare sharpen. It seemed like Naruto had been right. Not like Naruto didn't know he was right before, but it certainly seemed to concentrate itself now. "What you want means very little for me Gaara. If life was as simple as getting what we wanted then there would be no need for the state of affairs going on currently. Nor would there be a senseless war that your village is attempting," Naruto said. He noticed Gaara's eyes narrow dangerously. The sand stiffened in the air. Naruto had already been on guard.
"Explain how you know that Uzumaki," Gaara strained out with his voice. Naruto closed his eyes. "I'm afraid that's not possible. Regardless if I know or not the only thing this war will accomplish is Konoha's grudge against Suna and Oto. Back during the Fourth Great Shinobi War I remember Iwa and Kumo had been fighting against Kiri and Konoha. Before that had been the Third Great Shinobi war, if you believe you and another minor village have the necessary strength to do what three hidden villages failed to do then you have poor judgement," Naruto commented. This only served to make Gaara angrier.
"Don't presume that you understand everything Uzumaki. Whether Konoha or Suna wins changes nothing for me. I will still kill people to prove my existence. I will love only myself and no one else. That is what makes one strong," Gaara remarked. Naruto sighed mostly to himself. He had seen that kind of logic everywhere he had traveled when he had left the village. He also sighed because he felt the nostalgia. Was that how he spoke to other people at time? The fact that he didn't need anyone else? or the fact that he didn't trust anyone else enough to watch his back? Irony was odd.
"You say that you love only yourself, if you did that then you wouldn't feel the need to listen to your mother. You would do the things you wanted and not because they told you to do it. If you truly love only yourself then you only seek to make yourself happy. Your goals are obviously to make someone that isn't you happy. It is impossible to love only yourself," Naruto answered. He and the clone quickly jumped out of the way as a rush of sand came at him. Both blonde backflipped through the air and landed down gracefully.
"I will kill you Uzumaki Naruto. Not for Suna, not for this war, but for myself," Gaara replied. Naruto didn't seem very fazed by the thought. "If you believe you can, then foolishly try," Naruto instigated. Gaara was more than ready to move on that promise before he found himself surrounded by over a dozen Anbu, very young Anbu at that. Some were easily in their teens while others looked just as young or even younger than Gaara.
"Naruto-sama!" Naruto turned his head just in time to notice Misa drop to the ground. "Misa, what are you doing here?" Naruto asked rather plainly. Misa's eyes never left Gaara's form or the way his sand moved in the air as she spoke. She cleared her throat.
"Danzo-sama has requested to see you. I was originally sent to retrieve you, but I felt the bloodlust in this area and gathered a squad," Misa said taking a step forward. She and the Root Anbu squads drew one kunai as they faced Gaara." Explain yourself for attacking Naruto-sama! Depending on your answer you may or may not leave here with your head on your shoulders!" Misa threatened. Gaara merely stared at her impassively. His head was starting to hurt just like those other times. So much blood was here! Gaara lightly grinned.
"All of you stand down!" Naruto's voice echoed through the area they were in. The Root Anbu turned to look at the blond in some sort of surprise before glaring back to Gaara. "This exam is also about diplomacy. If we attack him without probable cause then Konoha will have charges against it and retributions. The same can easily be said in Suna's case," Naruto remarked sending a knowing look to Gaara. Gaara's frown never left his face, but he knew the circumstances that would befall him if he did commit such a thing outside of the Chunin exam protocol. Now Gaara could have cared less about those protocols, but things were expected of him and if fate was real at all then Gaara would have Team seven's blood melding into his sand soon enough.
"Very well Uzumaki. You get to live however during the Chunin exam finals I expect you to be one of the final people. Killing you is a pleasure only reserved for myself. I will have you prove my existence," Gaara said. Naruto didn't say anything for a reply. He merely walked forward. Misa and the other Anbu were instantly on guard in case of anything happened, but they only noticed Naruto stand arms-length away from Gaara and his sand. "Then I will tell you something also Gaara-san. If you are waiting for me then you are foolishly wasting your time. If you truly want someone to fight then I know the person who will prove to you what your existence is meant to be," Naruto said. Gaara raised an eyebrow, but carefully listened as Naruto spoke his words. With each word, Gaara's frown grew deeper and deeper. Before long, Naruto stopped. Gaara said nothing. He merely turned around and walked back into the trees, the foliage concealing his presence.
Once his presence had completely vanished, Misa turned to Naruto. "What did you tell him?" she asked. Generally Misa wouldn't have truly care either way as if she was privileged to know then she would have been told, however she couldn't stop the curiosity poking at the bits of her brain ordering her to ask the blonde next to her the question itself. Naruto turned around. "I told him the truth," was all Naruto said before he turned back to her.
"Now then, take me to Danzo. We will retrieve Rinko, Touka, and Fu then we will be on our way," Naruto announced. The Root Anbu quickly saluted him before they went on their way. As they did so, Naruto couldn't stop himself from looking downward at Misa's hand. The strange line running through her seal made itself apparent. Naruto raised an eyebrow. She had been partnered. Strange things kept happening. Naruto shook his head. Now he was thinking about what he had said. He sighed for the umpteenth time again. He was suddenly very tired.
-With Samui and Atsui-
Samui and Atsui stood just past the closed doorway. All eyes had been on them ever since they came through said door. Not like neither of them didn't expect this to happen. After all they had been gone for an unprecedented amount of time. "And just where the hell have you two been? Omoi and I were worried sick about you guys!" Karui growled out. To the side, stood Omoi with a rather relaxed stance, but the look in his eyes told Samui and Atsui that he wanted the question answered as well. To the right of him was the Raikage watching the scene with slight interest. Darui had been on the opposite wall of Omoi casually rubbing his head with disinterest. Shi had his arms folded. The only that wasn't present was Mabui.
"Atsui and I had some personal business to discuss, Karui. I'm sorry we worried you, but it could not involve you or Omoi this once," Samui replied. Karui balled her fists. "The hell it doesn't involve us! You can't just go off on your own doing as you please. You know that better than anyone Samui. We're a team, if you're in trouble or something then you can tell us about it," Karui said. Samui didn't reply. Neither did Atsui.
In their own corner, Shi turned to Darui. "Has this been happening a lot?" Shi asked quietly. Darui shrugged his shoulders slightly. "If it has I haven't noticed it very well. Usually Samui's the one to keep Karui and Omoi from bickering, but now their both against her and Atsui. I can tell in her eyes that something has happened. What it is, I don't know," Darui replied. Shi blinked before turning back to the conversation. Okay, fine it might as well have been a fight.
Samui indeed pondered Karui's statement. She knew that she could tell them anything, but she also knew they could never, and would never, understand her priorities or her attachments. In contrast to her perceived nature, Samui was actually the one who tightly held onto the things close to her. For all her life the only ones truly close to her where her two brothers. Nothing else actually mattered. She was willing to admit that these people around her had been great friends. Friends she had accomplished much with, friends she had fought struggles with, and friends she told things she wouldn't tell much of anyone else, but…one doesn't turn their back on family, for anything.
"Samui, we're merely worried. You've been acting weird ever since you came to Konoha. I even remember the times that we made our journey here. Almost the whole time you kept to yourself, you were more silent than you are usually. You were also trembling. Every night I noticed you wake up in a cold sweat and walk off into the woods for a period of time. I said nothing because you didn't bring it up. Samui, is there anything to talk about?" Omoi asked with a small frown. At this news, Darui leaned himself off the wall and took a step forward.
"Is that true Samui?" Darui asked. Samui didn't speak. It was actually the first time her words had been lost in her throat. How odd that her expression of serene and perfect calm hadn't wavered, but her body was tense. It was on the defense. It was like she was being attacked. Atsui noticed this interaction and placed a hand on his sister's shoulder. Samui turned her head just in time to notice Atsui take a step forward.
"Alright then, I'll ask you two a question. What would you do if you discovered you had family, but they were in another village?" Atsui asked. Karui and Omoi blinked. Darui's frown suddenly deepened. Already the jonin had an idea of where this was going. Where he sat alone, the Raikage, had a deep frown on his face as well. He leaned forward showing just how much he was planning on listening to this conversation. No one spoke for a few moments. Those moments were tense, but Karui spoke.
"Hmph I'd convince them to come to my village. No way am I giving up the place I love just for that. When I put on this headband I swore to protect it from all threats," Karui replied. Her gaze intensified as did Atsui's. He glared back at her. "I would convince them to come, but if they didn't then it would be out of my hands. If they refuse then we're enemies. I can only hope that we don't fight each other," Omoi replied. Silence reigned in the room for a few moments. Slowly a soft chuckle came.
"What a hot and intense answer. Of course that's the answer of those who don't know what it's like to lose family and then suddenly gain it back. I guess that makes you both stronger than us. No matter what happens, we can't kill our brother," Atsui firmly responded. In about an instant, not that Atsui couldn't have avoided it, but Karui quickly grabbed him by the scruff of his neck and bashed him against the wall.
"Enough of this bullshit! Darui-sensei and the others might be too scared to tell you the truth, but I'll say it right to your face. Maybe then you'll wake up! You're brother is dead! There is no bringing him back! Whoever you thought you saw wasn't him and it's never going to be him. It's time for you both to wake up out of your little fantasy!" Karui criticized. Omoi quickly leaned up. "Oi Karui! That's going too far!" Omoi reprimanded harshly. Atsui didn't seem fazed by her words. However, everyone was surprised when the door opened. They all turned their eyes to see Samui.
"Karui, you're embarrassing yourself. Put Atsui down and cool yourself. I have heard those words far too many times by my superiors, my therapists, and even by myself. However I never heard it from Atsui or...you, until now," Samui replied coldly. Darui took another step forward. "Samui, Karui merely wishes for you both to look at this realistically, but I do admit that she was out of line. We're all just worried about you both. You're our family too," Darui mentioned to her. Samui was still for but a moment before she moved to close the door. It's clicking sound mocked everyone present. Karui turned back to see Atsui's eyes shadowed.
"Karui let him down," Darui commanded. Karui quickly removed her hand from Atsui's shirt. Atsui merely stood in the middle of the room. "Raikage-sama, I will be back later. At the moment, I'm…too heated," Atsui said. A slowly nodded.
"I see that. Get going then and come back when you have cooled down," A replied. Atsui nodded with a bow before he made himself vacant. Karui quickly punched the wall while Omoi looked at the ground. That hadn't gone the way they wanted.
-With Sasuke and Kakashi-
Sasuke was on his knees huffing as the sweat dropped down from his body. Kakashi took note of the three large holes in the rock formations behind them. How odd that this was where the two sharingan wielders had been for the past three weeks. "Hmm so it seems like three is your limit. Well done Sasuke," Kakashi complimented. Sasuke took the moment to catch his breath.
"Three isn't good enough Kakashi. What if I wanted to try it a fourth time?" Sasuke asked. Kakashi turned to look at Sasuke with mild interest and light-hinted worry. "Maa well for one thing it wouldn't work. Remember that in addition to it then you're also using your sharingan which also drains your chakra at a steady rate. Keep in mind that I have a lot more chakra than you Sasuke so I could probably handle a fourth, fifth, maybe even a sixth time, but for you then not only would it not work, but your chakra would also be so stressed that you would die from having none at all. Three times is your limit," Kakashi said sternly. Sasuke cursed to himself. He could only use it three times? That damn limitation was going to be the end of him. He had to be able to use it any number of times at any point he wanted. It still wasn't enough.
"In any case you think I have should stay away from that Gaara guy during the final round?" Sasuke asked. Kakashi nodded. "Yes, his chakra is highly disturbed as I believe his mental state is. I don't care who you fight so long as it isn't him. Somehow Sasuke I don't think that's even a shinobi that most chunin would want to mess with," Kakashi mentioned. Sasuke snorted.
"Hmph whatever. Just answer me this. Am I stronger than Naruto is currently?" Sasuke asked. Kakashi couldn't resist the urge to smile underneath his mask. "Why? Do you find him to be your rival?" Kakashi asked jokingly however the glare that Sasuke gave him told him that the joke wasn't needed at this moment or maybe it was just a glare. Kakashi didn't know anymore. However he did know one thing. Not even Sasuke's annoyed glare could match Naruto's.
Soon Kakashi's thoughts drifted back to his other male student, if he could even call him that. Every time Kakashi brought it to the Hokage the man merely replied that Naruto was a special case and that things weren't as they appeared. Kakashi didn't know what to think of that or of Naruto's use of tactics, jutsu, and training. Then there was Sakura being trained under Danzo, the man rumored to be on par with Hiruzen Sarutobi as a top-tier shinobi, one above even himself. Kakashi didn't understand it honestly. He thought he had been doing a good job as far as teaching went. Then again a little progress report couldn't have been so bad. However now Kakashi had to go back to his other student's question. "Sasuke, Naruto is…complicated. There are times where I have to question his genin status. I'm sorry Sasuke, but Naruto is definitely more talented than you are. I can't imagine how much training he has been through especially considering that when I read his profile it stated that he didn't have much to begin with. I'm sorry Sasuke, but you aren't stronger than Naruto," Kakashi admitted. As he had expected Sasuke didn't take that news well. The Uchiha seethed and his nails clawed at the ground. How did Itachi get so much stronger? How did Itachi become an Anbu commander a year after the age Sasuke was? Why was Naruto even stronger than him? None of this made sense.
"I will beat you Naruto. If your stronger than me and Itachi is stronger than you then I will make sure that you understand the difference between the two of us," Sasuke thought to himself. Kakashi took note of the look in his eye. Kakashi had assumed that competition would be a good motivator for Sasuke and Naruto, but Kakashi had failed to count in Naruto's maturity. His lack of competitiveness only seemed to fuel Sasuke's anger. On the other hand it was a good motivator for Sakura. To have one of the Hokage's former team training her was certainly astounding. Perhaps Kakashi had misjudged the team's potential at first glance. Out of them all, Kakashi thought Sasuke would have needed the most work. Naruto, more or less, took over Sakura's training and his own so one couldn't necessary blame Kakashi for…taking Sasuke himself to get better. Still that didn't mean he couldn't make Sasuke stronger.
"Maa you guys are young. Who knows what the future holds. Let's take a break and then get back to work," Kakashi said. Sasuke merely nodded his head. Naruto had better have gotten stronger.
-With Kisa and Tsunami-
Kisa laughed as Tsunami laid her upper body on a table. "Please stop laughing Kisa-san. My feet hurt. How can you continue to walk in these heels?" Tsunami asked tiredly. Ever since both had left the Hokage Mansion they had been to various testing sites for Konoha's shinobi production. First they went to the Science division, then to the artillery division, after that the Barrier division, and many others. Tsunami could admit that she hadn't done so much walking around. She figured that the only reason Kisa wasn't tired was because as a former kunoichi then she was trained in this type of body fitness and as a businesswoman she was used to all this walking around. Tsunami just couldn't understand it. Now they finally managed to have a break which Tsunami was going to greatly take advantage of.
"It's easy once you've done it for as long as I have. Don't worry we won't be moving from this spot for the next half an hour. We did a lot Tsunami. Now we're just down to six and then we can go home," Kisa said brightly. Tsunami sighed. Six more? They weren't going to be getting home until midnight at that rate. Tsunami was truly going to have to get used to this lifestyle. However she just agreed with a shake of her head. She accepted this position and…more or less knew what it would entail. All that money, that luxury that she was now seeing back in Wave, not that she let it go to her head,…this might as well have been the price for it.
Suddenly, as Tsunami opened her eyes a wave of green hair appeared in her vision for just a second. Tsunami blinked as the figure walked past where she and Kisa 's eyes trailed over the feminine form. The short green hair and the orange eyes. The look almost made Tsunami give a double-take. "Kisa-san, by any chance is…that your daughter?" Tsunami asked looking to the left. Instantly all laughter disappeared from Kisa's expression as she followed Tsunami's eyes and noticed Fu walking through the street. However unlike last time Kisa noted the bandage on Fu's right cheek. "That…is," Kisa said rather lightly. Tsunami glanced to Kisa. The woman had an almost scared look on her face. Her features were stricken with sorrow. Tsunami couldn't help copying her expression.
"You really miss her don't you?" Tsunami asked. Kisa took a deep breath and gave a short, mirthless chuckle. "Does it show that much?" she asked. Tsunami nodded without complaint. Kisa breathed another sigh. She nodded as well.
"Well why don't you say something? Go talk to her?" Tsunami asked. To her credit, Tsunami had been far too excited to jump when Kisa's hands slammed on the table. "Don't you think I want to? But what am I supposed to say? 'Hey there Fu, did you know I'm that mother you thought you didn't have? I also thought you died so I left and never thought to check.' Like that wouldn't blow up in my face," Kisa responded with a small snort. Tsunami looked at her friend before looking back at the walking green-haired young teen. She then smiled and stood to her feet.
"And where do you think you're going?" Kisa asked. Tsunami swiftly smiled. "You'll thank me one day," were the words that assaulted Kisa's ears and before she could move to stop Tsunami, the Shipping Division leader was already gone after the girl. Kisa cursed. For a woman who was complaining about her feet hurting, Tsunami was sure fast in those heels.
Fu actually wondered half the time what stopped her from just running away. It was like there was seal keeping her bound to the village or even to the team. Supposedly inside of her was the power that could possibly destroy a nation in a single blast. She often wondered what would have stopped her from leaving or even destroying Taki. Trust her when there was only a handful of people who were tolerant of her. Keep in mind that she said tolerant, not kind. Fu sighed. Someone give her a sign that her life was going to get better! Or someone just give her a sign that she wouldn't have to put up with this bullshit anymore!
"Umm excuse me!" Fu quickly looked up as she felt a tap on her shoulder. No way was fate that fair…was it? Turning around, Fu raised an eyebrow when she took notice of the person who had invaded her personal space. The woman behind her look well-groomed and fit if the business dress she was wearing said anything. Though Fu kept her guard up against this woman's friendly smile. She had a good history with friendly smiles and most of them ended with her in the local hospital which was also bullshit mind you. "What do you want?" Fu asked, she admitted, rather rudely, but she would have liked for this woman to get to whatever point or question she had for stopping her so she could be on her way.
Tsunami's smile never left her face before turning over. "Do you know that woman over there?" Tsunami asked looking over her shoulder back to the place that she left Kisa. Fu followed her eyes before setting her sights on the familiar green-haired individual. The two green heads looked each other in the eyes for a brief moment before Kisa broke it almost too swiftly. "Umm yeah I guess. Look if this is about some stupid dango thing then I'll write you a formal apology or whatever. What do you want?" Fu asked once again. Tsunami's eyebrow twitched, but she ignored the bluntness of the question.
"Ah well she wanted me to get you. She wants to talk with you again," Tsunami said hoping that didn't come out strange like she thought it sounded. Fu merely looked at her skeptically. "Look the dango thing was a one-time thing. I know about Taki's relationship with Exodus and I don't want to be the cause of a loss of profit or whatever the hell you guys care about. It's better if you don't associate yourselves with me," Fu said with a shrug as she placed her hands in her pockets. However to her confusion, Tsunami only laughed.
"Nonsense. Money isn't the only thing important in the world," Tsunami said turning around and walking back. Fu watched her leave before looking back at Kisa who was sitting at the table. She still couldn't stop that stupid picking feeling in the back of her head. The green-haired woman…strangely irritated Fu for some reason. Granted Fu had only seen her one time in person. Now Fu knew she could walk away and leave this entire situation behind her, but needless to say that after all the training she did then she was hungry. Plus she didn't get paid for another three weeks so she was broke. A meal was a meal she supposed. However she just knew she wasn't going to like this.
Tsunami quickly picked up her things. "Oi oi, where are you going?!" Kisa asked while Tsunami leaned up. "Well I'm going to use the rest of my relaxation time at home. I'll see you at the site in forty-five minutes. Take care Kisa-san," Tsunami said as she left the shop with a wide smile on her face. For the first time, Kisa had to shiver. This woman might have had a nice smile, but she was easily a closet manipulator. Kisa feared for the woman's son.
"Ummm yo," Kisa swiftly turned around and noticed Fu looked evenly at her. Kisa forcibly relaxed her posture. "Nice to meet you again Fu-san," Kisa said as Fu took a seat across from her. The younger of them propped her elbows on the table.
"So where's your friend? She up and left?" Fu asked making Kisa roll her eyes. "She's always been a fickle one. Try not to let it bother you," Kisa responded. Fu offered a contemplative expression, but she didn't say anything. Pretty soon the two lapsed into silence having nothing to talk about. Kisa noted that Fu seemed to look at the menu every so often. She almost seemed to be eyeing it desperately and hungrily. Kisa smiled to herself.
"Are you hungry?" Kisa asked. Fu quickly perked up. "Not really," Fu responded. Although neither could mistake the sound of Fu's stomach as it gently rumbled underneath the table. Kisa raised an amused eyebrow. Fu's cheeks puffed up as she looked to the side.
"Shut up," Fu replied before Kisa ordered them something to eat. As she did Kisa gave a sharp look to the bandage on Fu's face. "That bandage on your face. Was it a training accident?" Kisa asked rather suddenly. Fu raised an eyebrow before scoffing. She rubbed the side of her face. Not like a woman like this could understand even if Fu told her. After all, people say that ignorance was bliss.
"Yeah, so maybe I'm a little clumsy. Sue me," Fu retorted much to Kisa's amusement. However that amusement didn't make itself to her features. When your in business then you learn to detect the lies around you. When you're a shinobi you learn to detect the lies of those close to you. Kisa was both and as such no way could a twelve-year old teen lie her way through her. However she chose to buy it for the time being.
"I see," Kisa said. Fu shook her head. In time, the food Kisa ordered had been delivered. Fu said her graces and quickly began to devour the offerings with gusto. Kisa didn't mind the off-put table manners. She didn't care. She really just wanted to see her daughter get some food into her stomach. It didn't look like she had eaten since their dango encounter.
Fu looked up to see Kisa looking at her. The woman probably didn't even know she was doing it, but it put Fu on edge actually. To survive as Fu had then one had to be capable of reading people and their emotions. Fu figured she was rather adept at it. The woman looked at her strangely. Fu could see a mixture of sadness, frustration, anger, joy, and love? Fu surmised that her first assumption had been right. This woman was definitely bipolar. Still that didn't stop Fu from eating the delicious food. "You've been looking at me for the past five minutes. What did you really want?" Fu asked with a slight glare. Kisa didn't seem to mind the glare as she snapped out of her stupor.
"Oh, was I looking? Sorry about that. I didn't want anything particular. Most of the people I meet usually aren't so honest with me. I suppose it's because of my stupid image," Kisa said while Fu snorted. "Oh yeah, being waited on hand and foot by your workers surrounded by money sounds real tedious," Fu criticized. Kisa snickered at Fu's criticism. She would totally correct that attitude when the two came to a better understanding.
"You would be surprised how untrue that is. The company demands absolutely equal work from everyone. Granted the pay is not the same, but we all expect each other to put in the necessary amount of work. One thing you should understand is that every single person who works at the company has had to struggle to get by somewhere in their lives. Some of us have been former slaves, others former prostitutes, and some of us have deemed unfit to even live on the earth we walk on. Others have been betrayed by their former love ones. We are a truly diverse company," Kisa explained. Fu didn't want to admit it, but she had been intrigued. Sounded like someone like her would have fit right in.
"Even your so-called president?" Fu asked. She noticed Kisa's eyes harden considerably. "Especially our president," Kisa softly answered. Fu watched the woman's stance. It was rather tense, but still relaxed enough to prevent any type of anxiety.
"Sounds like a nice place," Fu muttered to herself as she took a drink of water. Not that she had intended it, but Kisa had heard Fu's statement even though she almost missed it. She suddenly had her brain working. "I doubt that your parents would want you working in such a place," Kisa replied with a simple, or at least she thought, smile. She noticed Fu's expression didn't change. She only snorted.
"Parents huh? I have no parents. My village told me I didn't need to know them as they were unimportant. However the village elder, at the time, was the only person who was nice to me. He gave me something he said my mother always wanted me to have," Fu said rummaging through shirt and pulling out a small necklace with a have broken crescent shape. Upon seeing the necklace, Kisa placed a hand over her eyes to keep Fu from seeing the frustrated look on her face. "That old man! He…remembered," Kisa thought to herself. The necklace had been cheesy, she admitted, when she bought it, but for her it was special. The owner had told her it was from a monk in the Land of Wind. The winds blew around the person who wore it as a was composed of two parts. Kisa and her lover had gotten the necklace and swore to give it to Fu. How amazing that it turned out alright.
"What…what if your parents were alive? What if…they were told a lie about you? What would you do then?" Kisa asked in hidden desperation. Fu looked up at her and blinked. The woman's eyes seemed to be begging her to answer the question. Fu rubbed the bridge of her nose. "Look I don't know what you're hoping for here. My parents are gone and nothing is going to change that. But…if my parents were alive then…well I would punch both of them for leaving me. Lie or not. As for the lie, well I don't know anything about that stuff, but…well nothing convenient like that would happen. It's not like I can do anything anyway. Look you obviously have to be somewhere. Thanks for the food," Fu said stuffing the necklace back into her shirt before standing to the table.
"You're welcome," Kisa said lowly as she heard Fu's footsteps trudge away. As her sounds disappeared a fierce, immense, unstable pressure came over the restaurant that Kisa was in. People's heads banged either against the table, the wall, or the floor into blissful unconsciousness. Those same walls suddenly cracked. Tea cups bursted releasing their spilled contents onto the floor. At her table, Kisa seethed as the cracks in her own table quickly grew and expanded until the table utterly collapsed to the ground at her feet. "Taki, I will break you! I swear it!" Kisa threatened.
-Iwagakure-
The Village Hidden in the Stone, known as the most stubborn of all the Elemental Nations. Iwagakure truly lived up to its name. It was a rock-hard nation built and founded on iron principles surrounded by the Will of Stone. Where Konoha had the most and powerful military, Iwagakure had the most sturdy and most disciplined. It was also the same village that Konoha had fought with during the Third Great Shinobi War. It was also the village that Suna and Kiri fought against during the Fourth Great Shinobi War. That war had been the most devastating and the one to cause the most crushing effects. However through it all, Iwa stood as a symbol to its people and its economy that it was as stable as any of the other nations. However one of the many reasons it could remain that way was due to the Tsuchikage.
In front of the large doors that acted as the entrance and exit for Iwagakure stood a very short man with a long, triangular beard. He also had a heavy moustache, a big red nose, and thick eyebrows. If only looked into his beady eyes then they would have seen a wisdom that accompanied his elderly age. Known to all as Ryōtenbin no Onoki, or Onoki of Both Scales for his tough and indomitable will as well his position to take up both sides of an argument. He was fair. However everyone else knew what else to call him and that was Jinton no Onoki or Onoki of the Dust Release. There stood the Sandaime Tsuchikage of Iwa.
To his right was another man, much taller than him. The man was also admittedly big-boned for his height. Wrapped around his neck was a large yellow scarf and overtop his head was the standard Iwa headband. His big, wide cheeks did little to hide the smile that was plastered on his face.
To the Sandaime Tsuchikage's left stood another man. He was much leaner and taller than the previous two. He also wore the standard Iwa flak jacket and headband signifying his allegiance to his village and his nation. "Akatsuchi, are you ready to go?" he asked with a stern, deep voice. The man to his far left quickly nodded. "Hai Kitsuchi-san, we'd better hurry as we have only a week to get there. I never thought we'd see Kurotsuchi making it to the finals. You think she's learned anything new?" The husky man asked. Kitsuchi folded his arms with a shake of his head. If he knew his daughter then no doubt she was off boasting or doing something she shouldn't have been doing.
"Oi oi, that's enough, both of you. We're about to head to Konoha for the Chunin exam. You both better be on your guard and you'd better be on your best behavior. Our provider, Aeterna, will be going there as well. With any luck we will be able to gain Exodus as a provider as well. It still angers me that Konoha has the most powerful business provider, but I suppose I can't necessarily argue." Onoki replied. The other two men slowly agreed with him by nodding.
"Well then Tou-san, we'd better get going now," Kitsuchi replied. Onoki nodded and took a step forward. Suddenly searing pain shot through his body before he knelt forward. "Argh my back!" he called. Kitsuchi sweatdropped while Akatsuki chuckled to himself.
"Perhaps Kurotsuchi is right Tsuchikage-sama. Maybe you do need a replacement," Akatsuchi mentioned forcing Onoki to send him a glare. "The day I give up my position is the day that old monkey does the same for his. We're both the same age! If he can cut it then so can I! I'm not gonna lose to Konoha!" Onoki boasted. Kitsuchi palmed his face. Honestly, sometimes their leader was just ridiculous with his sense of competitiveness, but he couldn't deny that without some of that competitiveness, perhaps Iwa wouldn't be standing to this day.
"Akatsuchi, carry Tsuchikage-sama and let's move. I hope to make Konoha before this week is over," Kitsuchi replied heavily. Akatsuchi quickly agreed and, much to the Tsuchikage's protests, picked him up and the three made their way out of the village all the while Onoki yelling at both for the embarrassing situation that he was in.
-Root Base, Infirmary-
Danzo, Misa, Sai and a couple of other Root Anbu watched as Naruto pressed his hand to Torune's forehead through a rubber glover. To the far side sat his kits. Each of them watched the tiny operation curiously. About half an hour had passed that the Misa and Sai had brought Naruto to Danzo. The two had only exchanged the briefest of pleasantries before Danzo asked for Naruto to look into the Anbu. From what Naruto had gathered, Torune had been brutally attacked and beaten. Signs of merciless interrogation tactics had been implemented on him, not just physically, but also mentally. His mind was a clutter. It was in disarray. It was nearing a limit that it shouldn't even be at. For that half hour, Naruto had been asking questions while implementing treatment. Danzo had told him that all Torune was able to get out had been these words. "The moon controls the tides. The sun controls the earth. For too long the moon has been overshadowed by the sun. Now it will take it's place. The moon will control the earth and the sun will control the tides. Now is the start of…revolution," Naruto repeated the words the others had told him. Naruto looked over to Torune. He truly was in bad shape, but not to the point that he wouldn't recover, but it would definitely take awhile. His labored breath resounded in Naruto's ears. He was even more messed up than Zaku had been.
After some time, Naruto removed his hand from his forehead and threw the glove in the trash. He faced back to the group. "Torune will live," Naruto said to them all. No one seemed to move, but Naruto could see their stances relax if only sightly. At this time, Danzo took the time to take a step forward. "It's indeed troubling that someone was able to do this. Perhaps Orochimaru's men are moving closer than we anticipated," Danzo theorized. Naruto leaned up.
"That's not entirely out of the realm of possibility, but this hardly fits Orochimaru's desires. Most likely there is someone else here. Not just Oto and Suna," Naruto claimed. Danzo frowned. The sounds of his cane creaked on the floor. Slowly Danzo made his way past Naruto and stood at the side of Torune's bed. "Konoha truly has grown soft. Back when the Nidaime was Hokage such occurrences would not be possible," Danzo argued. Naruto didn't reply. He only looked forward.
"Fū-san, I'll write down a little of medical supplies. I'll also write down the hours he should take certain medicines. No strenuous activity for about a month, light exercise for the following month, and a regular check-up with me in that light exercise month. Strictly no ninjutsu or heavy taijutsu. Lastly, have Torune go down to the lake for two hours," Naruto instructed finishing the list. He quickly began to hand it to Fū. The auburn-haired male quickly took the note and looked at it curiously. "Why the lake Naruto-sama?" Fū asked. Once the note was handed off, Naruto moved to collect his kits into his arms. He had indeed heard Fū's question. Once they were collected, Naruto turned around.
"From the things I can tell his mind is stressed. Much more than it should be. Right now he needs something to relax. He needs to focus on something other than that experience. It will not happen automatically, but it's better for him if he starts now than later. Since your his partner then the responsibility falls to you," Naruto mentioned. Fū quickly nodded. Naruto nodded as well before turning back to Danzo.
"I plan to open the weapons shop after the chunin exams," Naruto told to Danzo. The man took one more glance in Torune's direction before moving back forward. "Very well. I like some of the lower staff to work with you. Exodus' weapons are very crucial to Konoha's service as is it's funding," Danzo remarked. Naruto slowly nodded. He soon walked over to the door. One of the Root members quickly opened it for his convenience. Naruto stood at the crack of the door.
"There are times where people believe that the light and darkness can't stand together. After all, the two are natural opposites, but nearly everyone can attest that the stronger the light, the thicker the darkness at its side. Danzo-san, not matter what anyone tells you, personally I believe that you would have made an excellent Hokage," Naruto remarked before closing the door. Danzo narrowed his eyes and tightened the grip over his cane. Looks like he had been found out. Of all the times. He slowly shook his head. Of course the blonde had known. How could he not? It's not like Danzo entirely meant to keep it a secret and yet…who knows. This world was merely too complicated and at the same time too simplistic for his liking. He slowly chuckled to himself. He didn't understand how Naruto could do it. How could he live in the light and the dark at the same time?
-With Mabui-
A cup of tea in her hand, Mabui sat on the outer rim of a local shop. Events of yesterday toyed with her mind. She couldn't help remembering those words over and word only caused her more confusion and more anxiety.
"Do you really need to ask? I became a Kumo shinobi because we were poor, needed food, and a house. I wasn't about to let little brother's killer get away so we trained. We trained hard Samui. Even when I was one team placement I can't tell you that I actually cared. Little brother was all that mattered. That….has not changed," Atsui said looking over the horizon of Konoha. Samui nodded.
"I have made amazing friends like Omoi, Bee-sama, Karui, and Yugito-san, but I will keep cool and choose our family. Naruto is our brother first, and a Konoha shinobi second. However Atsui we have to establish this now. We will not become Konoha shinobi. I refuse to fight my friends if I can help it," Samui said seriously, well depending on her face anyway. Atsui smirked before nodding.
At the time, Mabui hadn't meant to eavesdrop on the conversation that the two siblings had, but hearing that had forced to into a certain type of perspective. she had only wanted to inform them both that Atsui was needed by the Raikage until she stumbled on their conversation. Now she didn't know what to think. Mabui always remembered reading the reports about the psychological evaluations on Atsui and Samui. Both talked about this little brother that they had in nearly all the sessions some of the professionals had with them. It even got worse when one member actually denied the existence of brother of theirs which only forced Atsui to fly into a heated rage which led to the young man being bound for a time. However from that conversation, Mabui had speculated that in this Chunin exam had been that little brother that they searched for. That brother was a part of Konoha and they had reunited with him in some way, but Mabui didn't understand what they were saying. They wouldn't become Konoha shinobi. That meant that they would be leaving Kumo, but wouldn't register with Konoha's military. What was the purpose of that? Where would they go if that was the case? She had left before the full conversation was finished. "I can't believe they would just leave. It sounds like their both dead set on this action too. I should probably tell Darui about this, but is it really my business?" Mabui questioned to herself. She continued to hold her slowly growing cold tea in her hand. Her thoughts were so clouded she never took notice of the person behind her.
"You seem distraught Mabui-san," jerking her head up in surprise, Mabui noticed Naruto looking at her from the street. In his arms were three small foxes that also looked at her curiously. "Father, who is that?" Mabui failed to hide the look of surprise on her face when the black-coated fox asked a question to the blonde in a light boy-is tone. Naruto didn't respond to the question immediately. Instead he walked out of the busy street and stood before Mabui. The dark-skinned woman still had to find herself in shock. His eyes stood so much firmer than what she remembered. How she could get lost in those pools was astounding.
"May I take a seat?" Naruto asked taking Mabui away from her stupor. "Ah please," Mabui insisted with her hand. She had actually been hoping to run into Naruto at some point. From her first visit, she found herself intrigued by the young genin that was Uzumaki Naruto. Naturally she had still been embarrassed about her losing herself in Konoha's grand ways until getting herself literally lost in its structure. Not one of her best moments she knew. However through her multiple visits to Konoha she indeed liked to think that there was just something about the blond in front of her. Plus the fact that he had a nice interest in great novels was a definite benefit.
As Naruto sat in the chair, he slowly allowed Rinko, Touka and Fu to land on top of the table. Each stretched themselves with smiles on their faces. Mabui watched the scene slightly before she faced back to Naruto. "Your pets?" Mabui asked. Naruto looked down to the three foxes for a moment. "My kids," Naruto corrected her. As he expected, Mabui had a confused expression about her. Granted Naruto understood why. For some it was normal for kids to name their animals as their kids. Some tests viewed it as the child mimicking the parents they had a trying to prepare themselves for adulthood. Mabui was probably thinking the same thing.
"I found them when I was younger. Like myself, they don't have parents. So I took the three of them," Naruto explained. Mabui's eyes lit up in realization before she finally took a sip of her tea. "I see. So you adopted them. That's very sweet Naruto-san," Mabui stated with a gentle smile on her face. She then turned to the three.
"Greetings, I'm Mabui. Nice to meet you," she introduced herself. The kits blinked at her introduction before they turned back to their father. Naruto looked at them all. "Well? She had politely introduced herself. The three of you must do the same," Naruto remarked. The three nodded.
"I'm Rinko!" the crimson-coated female fox said with a wide smile. "I'm Touka!" then came the voice of the gentler white-haired fox. She slowly scratched the top of her ears for a second. Damn fleas.
"And I'm Fu," the last fox introduced in the same boy-is tone she recognized early. The black-haired fox sent her a small smile of his own. Mabui returned the smile as best she could. Despite her inner doubts about her previous thoughts she was happy for something to take her mind off of it if only for a moment. She then took the time to glance back up to Naruto. She seemed surprised that he was staring at her. It wasn't a rather uncomfortable stare, but more a…disarming stare. From the look of his posture he had just been doing something important or exhausting. "Something wrong?" Mabui asked. Naruto didn't seem concerned that she had caught him staring. It seemed more like he knew, but didn't exactly bother to change it in any way.
"You haven't been getting any sleep," Naruto stated. Mabui blinked at his statement. She couldn't even call it outlandish because it had been true. Hearing about what Samui and Atsui planned to do, Mabui had lost very precious sleep. She was sure that her eyes were saying it pretty clearly. "Ah hai, work for Raikage-sama has me pretty busy. I can't afford a lot of sleep is all," Mabui lied. She doubted it was Naruto's business about their circumstances so she kept silent about it.
Naruto eyed her for a second. He could tell from the way her mouth tensed when she spoke that she had just lied to him. However it was definitely a believable lie if Naruto were to give her credit for it. He believed that the Raikage was indeed a busy man and his assistant had to be just as busy in arranging things fro him, but it was that hesitance in her tone that told Naruto it was a lie. Naruto closed his eyes. "It's Samui and Atsui isn't it?" Naruto asked. He didn't have to open his eyes to know that Mabui had been stunned by his answer and truth be told she had been. Mabui failed to hide her shock once Naruto opened his eyes. She just looked at him like he had said something he shouldn't have or even something she should have been concerned for.
"What? How did you…," Mabui began to ask, but Naruto raised his hand for her to pause. Mabui did so. Both let a couple of minutes of silence pass by for them. For Naruto it was a perfect time to arrange his thoughts, but for Mabui was only gas adding fuel to a fire that was her curiosity. After some time, Naruto finally opened his eyes. "It was easy to establish. I met Samui and Atsui the last night and you haven't been sleeping recently. Plus I judged your reaction which told me that I had given the correct question," Naruto replied. Mabui suddenly leaned forward.
"You're their little brother!" Mabui exclaimed staring at Naruto with what could only be described as astonishment. Naruto slowly nodded. The kits were silent. They felt like it might have been time to be. "Hai," Naruto admitted. Mabui leaned back into her seat. The small headache that had slowly been going away had returned as she placed a finger to her forehead. Her mind was racing trying to process everything. This was too much. Everything going on here was too much. Now Mabui couldn't help feeling like a fool. For years since Kumo had found Samui and Atsui, they had gone through multiple session of denying their brother's existence or saying he was dead. Disheartening words meant to force both to see the reality had only been further heart-breakers. All this time, they were not only fighting their sadness, but also the doubts people forced into their heads for their 'better life.' Mabui couldn't believe this.
Suddenly Mabui found a hand touch her temple. A feeling of calmness flowed into her body. She looked up and noticed Naruto had leaned over the table. His hand glowed in a green glow as he attempted to erase the headache. Mabui looked up Naruto's eyes were staring directly into her own. Mabui stiffened. For a long time she hadn't imagined someone being that close to her. His blue eyes pierced into her green ones. His calming aura filled her body easing the headache that he knew he no doubt caused. "Breathe in," Naruto said. Mabui took a small breath of air. "Breathe out," Naruto then said. Mabui exhaled in a smooth motion. She then felt Naruto retract his hand and lean back into his seat. Mabui felt much better from the action.
"A-Arigatou," Mabui expressed. Naruto merely shook his head. The light-grey haired woman pushed one of her bangs from the side of her face. "I…I don't understand. You've been alive all this time. Why did you never return to them? I would imagine that you would want to," Mabui replied taking the time to catch herself. Naruto proceeded to fold his arms.
"Rather than say I never would return to them, I would say that I couldn't. I'm afraid that I can't fully divulge why without releasing some of the village's secrets and I can't place such a risk in that. I hope you understand," Naruto remarked. Mabui slowly nodded. Naruto could tell she wasn't satisfied in the slightest with his remark. "However I can say that outside factors prevented me from doing so. Also if they did return with me then….this village would lose face, which I still believe is foolish enough, but that is the way it is Mabui-san. They told me the same thing that you probably heard," Naruto said.
"Then stop them! They'll listen to you! Please, Naruto-san, what is keeping you in Konoha?" Mabui asked, or rather pleaded for an answer. Naruto looked at her and exhaled a breath. That breath made Mabui pause. She could see his eyes darken slightly. All of a sudden, Naruto looked very tired. More tired than her actually. "That question seems to come to me a lot. I still don't have an answer for it entirely. However, Mabui-san I can't tell you the things I feel you, or even your Raikage should know. Please have a good day," Naruto said standing to his feet. He gently picked up his kits into his embrace, but he didn't leave just yet. Mabui watched Naruto dig into his pocket. He didn't stop the small smile that came to his face.
"I remember previously that you said you wanted to read more of my books. Perhaps we will talk more about this one if you wish. Naruto pulled out a small green book and placed it on the table. He then followed with a bow and left the cafe behind. Mabui watched him leave. Once he was out of sight, Mabui released a breath. Her breath exhaled her lips in short bursts. She looked downward her hands were trembling slightly. She placed one of her hands to her chest. Mabui swallowed the lump in her throat. Her heart rate had accelerated slightly. Mabui looked down at the book. Finding herself calming down, she moved her hand for it. Mabui picked it up. She felt it's cover and it's firm spine. Mabui opened the book and read the first two lines. "It's my fault. It's…all my fault," Mabui blinked. She suddenly closed the book, paid for tea, and walked out of the cafe.
The rest of the week went by very slowly for Naruto and everyone else. Jiraiya had met with the blond a few times about his contract, but Naruto steadfast in never explaining or even giving the elderly sage a glimpse of his summon. It could have easily been said that Naruto was feeling just a tad of irritation at the sage's questioning of his actions. Naruto truly held those who could never take 'no' for an answer very heatedly. However Naruto couldn't deny that the sage had helped him in a bit of his training. As expected he wasn't able to master the next jutsu of the list that he wanted to learn. he had yet to find a good point of entry for the flames to meet with the water in order for him to control the mist enough, even then controlling it from the outside was much harder than molding it internally. Contrary to popular belief, anyone could learn an advanced nature kekkai genkai if they gave it enough training. The only difference of why people found it difficult was to their chakra nature affinities in general. Naturally if one wished to combine earth and water then mud was created. The user of this kekkai genkai had a specific genetic code, or physical structure that melded the earth and water perfect without them having to be separated together. The person who didn't have this structure would have to manipulate one part of his chakra for earth and the other part for water, combine it, and then expel it. For the regular person it was much harder and costed more chakra, but it was definitely possible. Naruto was easily trying to make up that possibility.
Over the course of the week, Naruto also managed to meet with Anko one more time. It had been strange having nothing to do, except talk or rather Naruto should say that they merely spent some time together when they were able. Naruto had taken a few nitpicks at Anko's seal as best he could at the moment while Anko told him about her day and her life in general. Anko also told him what happened to Yugao. Naruto remembered having seen the purple-haired woman from time to time, but the two never spent any sort of time together. Anko talked about her friend's coma. Naruto didn't know much to say about these types of things, but he told Anko that it was likely Yugao would wake up soon. Whether that was to comfort Anko or not, Naruto wasn't sure, but the smile on her face was enough to please him. In Naruto's mind, Anko looked much better with a pleasant expression.
Naruto didn't see Samui or Atsui over the last week. Most the former was off training with her team and the latter was preparing things for the Raikage. Ah, speaking of Kage, the Tsuchikage had arrived just a day ago into the last week to watching the Iwa shinobi fight. Very few pleasantries had been exchanged between the Raikage, Tsuchikage, and Hokage. Now it was the last night before the Chunin exams. Naruto couldn't prepare anymore.
That night, Naruto leaned against the railing of his open roof. He looked up at the countless twinkling stars in the sky. "I figured you would be out here," Turning his head he noticed Fugai walking towards him. "Merely clearing my thoughts is all," Naruto replied. Fugai chuckled with a small nod. It take her long to stand at Naruto's side.
"You seem to do that a lot. I have been following you for some time now and I still can't understand how you think. You don't truly care about winning, and much less about the obstacles that try to stop you, but you keep moving forward. Sometimes I wish I had your strength," Fugai admitted. Naruto did nothing to stop the warm summer breeze from hitting his face. "Strength? Is that what I have? Fugai, my type of strength is one that the world doesn't need honestly and yet here it is. Leading all of you has made me this way, but I would readily do it again if I could. I just merely do the best that I am capable of doing. In the end that's all I can ask for," Naruto responded. Fugai nodded.
"Yeah, I know that. I know that better than anyone. Naruto, no matter what happens tomorrow, will Kisa have Fu-san if this works out?" Fugai asked. Naruto sent her a small look. "Fugai, the arrogance of human nature is thinking everything will go according to plan. You, of all people, know I do not like to make assumptions, but rather I am forced to for this situation. I just cannot predict Fu-san's mental clarity in this upcoming news. However I do know that her past is much similar to my own. I dare say she and I have had an equally unfair upbringing, however there is one thing that separates the two of us and it is that something that I know will make her return to Kisa," Naruto replied. Fugai blinked. The Nanabi jinchuuriki had something that specifically made her different from becoming like Naruto had become. Fugai would have tried to figure it out, but somehow she knew that she wouldn't or she wouldn't do it tonight. Fugai accepted that. Naruto said a lot of things that she didn't know the meaning to.
"Okay then allow me to ask one more question. Naruto, what are you trying to accomplish? Training Sakura-san I mean. Throughout our travels I have known numerous people to ask you for training despite you being much younger than them and you've turned all, but three people away. You've helped train Amaru, Temujin and Zaku. Why…Sakura-san? No, its not like I have anything against her. I actually look forward to seeing her perform the most besides you and possibly my team, but…you must have a reason for it," Fugai said firmly. Naruto smiled to himself. Always the inquisitive type, Fugai was. But, in Naruto's opinion, that wasn't a bad thing. It was always good to question someone's motives. Even when that person had remained faithful to you before.
Naruto opened his mouth to speak. A rush of wind blasted over the rooftops while Fugai widened her eyes and simultaneously dropped her hands to her sides. Her neck couldn't keep her head up as her eyes focused on the ground. Naruto suddenly patted her shoulder. "However, that is also her choice," Naruto remarked before walking off leaving Fugai on the rooftop of his house. Fugai just looked at the ground. The air felt cold all of a sudden.
As Naruto closed the door to the roof, he walked down stairs and into the kitchen. It was already late so mostly everyone in the house had already been asleep. As he appeared in the kitchen, Naruto noticed Kisa sitting at the table with a cup of water in her hand. She sent Naruto a glance. Naruto gave one back. A silent conversation happened between them both. Naruto could see the questioning eagerness that filled up Kisa's eyes. He could see the burning, radiant hope behind them as well. A hope that relied on him based on the promise he had made to her earlier. Turning his head, Naruto noticed the Tv was on. On the couch slept his kits. Naruto moved to pick them up. "Aeterna, and Ayano will be arriving tomorrow," Kisa said not looking back to watch Naruto gently keep bring his foxes into his embrace. Naruto didn't reply.
"Have you prepared yourself?" Naruto asked. Kisa took a small breath and chuckled. "No I sure as hell haven't. Heh, I've been through tough negotiation deals, life and death business gambles, and I even went through a war, but I can't speak my mind to my own daughter. I guess that makes me pathetic doesn't it?" Kisa asked. Naruto snorted.
"Don't be foolish Kisa. You will do what you need to have done. I know you will. After all, above all else, I trust you the most," Naruto replied. Kisa didn't have the time to be surprised. She turned around, but Naruto was already gone. Shifting herself in her seat, Kisa fingered at her cup. "You trust me the most…huh?" Kisa repeated the words spoken to her before finishing her water. She gently placed the cup on the table and stood to her feet. She clicked out the lights to the kitchen. Tomorrow was the day. Whether it ended in success and blessing, or failure and tragedy, Kisa would try her best. In the end, that's all anyone can do.
-Next Morning-
People flooded the streets. Pushing and brushing up against one another, they crowds the runways by the hundreds, and even the thousands. Shop and store owners hollered attempting to attract potential customers and buyers to their individual merchandise. Everywhere the eye could see people of different nations flourished through Konohagakure's streets. Sounds of merriment and unsuppressed laughter filled the air. One by one people made their way towards the Konoha Stadium, the site of the event for this year's Chunin exam. Nobles, politicians, potential business clients, and even Daimyo came into the village to watch the young generation of shinobi fight for the honor of their village.
Near the main front gates, Izumo and Kotetsu were huffing as they tried to process people left and right. Dammit they hated this time of the year when people would be crowding around the place like insects to the fire, but then again neither of them could say that they weren't excited either. Once this was done then they would be on their way as well. "Yo Izumo, who do you think is going to win this time?" Kotetsu asked with a small smirk. Issue chuckled. "Heh, like I'd tell you Kotetsu. It wouldn't be fair game," Izumo replied. Kotetsu snorted underneath his breath. However he was soon startled when he heard an obvious female voice speak.
"My my, this is rather festive. The last chunin exam wasn't half as full as this one. Looks like I can expect a lot of quality entertainment," her melodious voice opened. Kotetsu looked up from his work and suddenly gawked. The blonde hair that flowed down her backside had been apparent, but nowhere near as apparent as the glittering jewels that adorned her body. "That would be appropriate Ayano-san. After all Konoha is the biggest nation so it can hold the most spectators. I am hoping Exodus will comply and allow us to have some leeway here," came another voice only this one was firmer. Kotetsu heard laughter assault his ears once again, but before he could ask anything the two moved on their way. The rather large caravan behind them also began to pour into the village.
"Oi…Izumo, i-isn't that…," Kotetsu said pointing forward. Izumo looked out into the crowd, but he had lost whomever Kotetsu was pointing to. Shrugging his shoulder, Izumo quickly told Kotetsu to forget about the people and focus on getting their work done. Kotetsu stared out at the open road for a while, but quickly resumed his own work.
Having passed the front gates, Ayano and Daichi made their way towards the Chunin exam stadium. "Mutsu-san!" Ayano waved. In an instant, a tall, brown-haired man was at her side. "Hai Ayano-sama?" He asked, his voice devoid of any feelings of warmth or pleasantry.
"Tell Kagame-san to send the caravan away. We'll be heading straight to the Chunin exam stadium with Daichi-san. Be sure to protect me while we watch this," She said. The young-looking man named Mutsu, nodded without hesitation. He quickly moved back to relay Ayano's orders. Daichi gave the two a look before shaking his head. Ayano turned to him. "You have a problem with my methods?" She asked. Daichi wisely chose to remain silent. They had just arrived and it wouldn't have done good for him to fall into her trap.
"Kara-san!" Daichi called. In another instant, a grey-haired middle-aged woman dropped to the ground. Around her waist was a long sheath, most likely holding the long, dangerous blade inside it. "Yo Dai-chan, what can I hope ya with this fine morning?" The woman named Kara asked. Daichi closed his eyes and chuckled. Still as disrespectful as ever and yet…still the only one reason he even went into a business like the one he was in.
"When we go to greet Exodus, I want you on your best behavior. I know how you are," Daichi replied with a light glare. Kara quickly offered a hurt expression. "You're assuming that moi wouldn't be on her best behavior? I'm hurt Dai-chan. Even without you telling me I wouldn't kill anyone…intentionally," Kara replied with a large grin. Daichi shook his head, but he didn't say anything. Ayano sent him a small glare, however that glare didn't do much as Kara looked at the literally-glittering woman with a glare that could only be akin to murder. Ayano shivered back and sucked her teeth lightly. Honestly having to put on such a pleasant face in front of someone who she despised was sickening.
After some time, the Ayano and Daichi, with their individual guards quickly made their way to the Chunin Exam stadium. Ayano placed a hand over the top of her eyes to block the sun from her sight. She looked at the large circular structures. "Well Konoha must have a high opinion of itself as always, such a grand building," Ayano commented. Daichi didn't comment. No, his eyes had been focused forward as four Konoha shinobi came out of the entrance. Ayano moved her eyes to their attention. Mutsu and Kara each tensed. Both were ready to intervene at their master's beck and call.
The shinobi were on them in an instant. "Ayano-sama, Daichi-sama, it is Konoha's honor that you attend this Chunin exam. We have a room set up with any convenience that we hope you will appreciate along with a spectacular view," one of the shinobi quickly spoke. Ayano smirked. "Hai, I would assume it's Konoha's honor to have us, but anyway quickly lead us there!" Ayano commanded. The shinobi quickly saluted before sending Mutsu and Kara a look.
"However we hope that you will be liable for anything your…guards might cause. We are still perfectly within our rights to exact force if we perceive them to be a threat," the male shinobi warned. Ayano and Daichi nodded. The latter sent his guard one more look warning her about good behavior. Kara just offered him a thumbs up for an answer. Daichi rolled his eyes. "Well that shouldn't be a problem, Shinobi-san." Daichi commented. The leader of the group nodded before turning around.
"This way please," He mentioned. Ayano and Daichi nodded as they and their guards walked after the shinobi. The forms of all disappeared into the darkness of the halls within.
It did not take the two rich company presidents to navigate the Chunin Exam stadium as their escorts guided them through the building. It also didn't take them long to find their room as the male shinobi knocked on the door. Everyone noticed the knob twist and the door open in one swift motion. As the door opened, Mutsu and Kara narrowed their eyes when they saw that Zabuza was the one who opened the door. Zabuza sent the two guards a small glare before moving to the side. The shinobi entered. However Ayano and Daichi weren't so easy. "Well, I didn't expect to see one of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist here. This is truly a splendid surprise, but I wonder what he's doing here," Ayano spoke. Zabuza was ready to reply, but a figure walked past him. "You don't need to worry about what isn't yours Ayano," The blonde woman looked up and noticed the piercing eyes of Kisa looking down at her. Ayano chuckled lightly.
"Ah Kisa-san, what another pleasant surprise. That might be the case, but I have tend to have a certain distrust of…traitors," Ayano quickly shot back with a small smile of her own. To his credit, Zabuza didn't rise to the bait and merely moved away from the door. He quickly resumed his post which on the right of a chair where Tsunami sat. Ayano raised an eyebrow to his action, but she didn't speak. Daichi and Kara walked past her and entered the room. Already they could tell the room had been outfitted to their convenience. A very soft carpet, a large window, food, drinks, and… multiple Tv screens? What was the purpose of those? Well nonetheless, to Ayano it was…passable. She and Mutsu walked inside as well.
Ayano's vision quickly went over to the lone person that was in her own seat. "Ara, and who is this?" Ayano asked. Shuffling of the chair was made as Tsunami stood to her feet. She turned around and addressed Ayano's question. "Greetings Ayano-san, I'm Tsunami. The new head of Exodus' Shipping Division," Tsunami replied. Ayano smiled with a rather strained expression. Both heard a huff.
"Don't speak with her Tsunami. That woman will steal the youth out of you," Kisa said folding her arms and her long legs one over the other. Fugai took her spot at the side of Kisa's chair. Daichi sat in his seat while Kara took her place at his side. Ayano feigned a hurt expression. "That hurts Kisa-chan, I just wanted to get to know the new face is all. How could you be so mean?" Ayano asked with a small grin which Kisa didn't reciprocate. With a huff, Ayano sat in her seat while Mutsu took his place next to her. Quickly the shinobi handed both Mutsu and Kara a couple pieces of paper before leaving.
"The teams Ayano-sama," Mutsu replied handing her the papers filled with the names of the chunin-hopefuls. Ayano took the paper for a second while Daichi did the same with the offered paper from Kara. The two looked at the list. "So Kisa-san, what's it like to be the most wealthy company since you took back Wave from Gato-san while simultaneously taking his company away from him?" Ayano asked. Kisa smirked.
"It felt surprisingly fulfilling. I suppose Konoha shinobi do have their uses. If it hadn't been for one of their teams we probably wouldn't have Wave at the moment," Kisa replied. Ayano slowly nodded in understanding. "In fact, that same team is also in this Chunin exam," it was this time that Tsunami spoke. Tsunami remembered the strict lessons that Kisa taught her before Ayano and Daichi came. Kisa drove it into Tsunami that none of them were friends, they were business associates and even more business rivals. Granted they did banter…playfully at times, they were still all enemies. Granted Tsunami understood this already, but she knew what Kisa was getting at. Tsunami couldn't afford to act…too friendly with these types of people or they would exploit it. Tsunami realized this quickly which is why she realized she should only speak formally until she could gain a better handle to appropriate…business banter.
"Oh, is that right? And what team might that be?" Ayano asked with a certain amount of interest. Kisa's smile didn't fail her. "That would be Team Seven, led by jonin, Hatake Kakashi." Kisa replied. Ayano flipped through the papers as did Daichi before they finally found the team Kisa was talking about. Ayano tapped her chin.
"Hmm interesting mission record. So we have the tragic survivor of the Uchiha clan, a mysterious blonde, and a young, pink-haired kunoichi," Ayano assessed. Daichi looked at them a little more, but decided not to say anything. He didn't really feel the need to. "Heh that Uchiha could be interesting. I can tell from the look in his eyes that he'll go on a path of endless bloodshed if he chooses," Kara spoke more to herself than to anyone else.
"That being said, where exactly is Team seven? I'm looking down at the stadium and I see all the representing teams except for Team seven. None of them are present," Ayano said sending a look to Kisa. With years of experience, Kisa remained still. "Well if they're late then that means that they just aren't fit to be Chunin. That is all," KIsa replied. However, her thoughts were a completely different matter. Dammit Naruto, of all the times for you to make a disappearing act!
On the outside, Amaru, Temujin, Ranke, and Kamira, were all having the same thoughts as Kisa. "Did anyone see Naruto-sama leave this morning?" Amaru asked gently rubbing her hands through the soft fur of Rinko. The other three quickly shook their heads. "No, breakfast was already laid out for us when we woke up. He must have been gone before we all got up. The only question is, where is he?!" Ranke gently hissed as she bit her thumbnail, however her other hand was preoccupied with gently holding a still sleeping Fu. Kamira tapped her leg on the ground anxiously.
"Naruto-sama's always been one to prioritize being early for important events. I'm sure he has a reason for being late." Temujin stated rather firmly. On his lap slept Touka. "Despite his reasons I wonder if the officials will buy it. Also what's with these giant Tv screens?" Kamira asked. The others shrugged their shoulders. No doubt they would be a part of the exam in some way.
At the very top of the stadium, overlooking all of the participants had been the Sandaime Hokage and he had the same amount of anxiety on his face like the rest of Kisa's entourage over the missing Kyuubi jinchuuriki. "It's not like Naruto-kun to oversleep, if at all. I hope this paranoia will go away. It's not just him, but both his teammates aren't here either. Neither is Kakashi. I really hope those three are getting his habits," Hiruzen thought to himself. He could only slump in his chair slightly.
"You seem tired Hokage-dono. Old age catching up with you?" Sarutobi turned his head to the left of where he was sitting and quickly noticed a man in the same garbs as he wore. However the only difference had been the dark blue tip of his Kage hat that gave him away. "Greetings Kazekage-dono. It's good to have you here. No I am not tired. Just mere worrying," Hiruzen replied. The Kazekage raised an eyebrow. He looked downward.
"Ah, one of your teams is not here. Team Seven I believe. A shame I really wanted to see Uchiha Sasuke against my son," the Kazekage replied as he took a seat in the chair placed for him. "Ah yes, Sabaku no Gaara-san. He has garnered a lot of attention. That is actually one of the most anticipated battles in this tournament," Sarutobi replied. The Kazekage quickly expressed surprise.
"One of them?" he asked. Sarutobi nodded. "That's right, there is actually two more," the Sandaime answered with a mysterious smile and it was a smile that the Kazekage didn't like for a good number of reasons. However he decided to put it at the back of his mind for the time being.
"I see," he said with a disarming grin across his face. Hiruzen didn't even get to nod before he noticed two more presences. "Your still alive Sandaime? Should be time for you to pass the torch don't you think?" came a voice that Hiruzen truly loathed. He turned and noticed the Sandaime Tsuchikage floating his way to his seat. Still remarkable technique that was.
"The same could be said for you Tsuchikage-dono. How's your back been?" Hiruzen teased getting a small glare from Onoki in turn. "Greetings Tsuchikage-dono," the Kazekage greeted politely. Onoki sent his gaze towards the Kage of the Village Hidden in the Sand. Onoki slowly nodded, but didn't exchange the greeting as the Kazekage had done.
It was then that the others heard a rough snort and a large body slam into his seat. "Raikage-dono, it is pleasant to see you as well," the Kazekage exchanged to the tall, muscular Raikage. A sat down and folded his arms. "I don't need your pleasantries Kazekage. I just came here to see if my shinobi were truly worthy of being Chunin," A replied. The Sandaime nodded.
Suddenly, someone appeared behind the Hokage. "Hokage-sama," he reported. He closely whispered into Hiruzen's ear behind the chair the Hokage was sitting. Sarutobi widened his eyes slowly before sighing. He nodded. The man dismissed himself.
"That's what we're all here to see. We'll be starting soon anyway," Sarutobi spoke. A grunted his response and his feelings on the issue.
In the stands, the same feelings were apparent about the missing team also. "I know Kakashi's always been late, but I didn't think his students would do so also. Think they'll get disqualified?" Assume asked leaning his bearded chin forward. To his left stood Gai. "No way would Kakashi allow all of his students and their efforts to go to waste. He wouldn't be my eternal rival if he did that," Gai replied with a sure grin. Asuma merely planted his hand over his face.
To the very far left, Atsui sat alone looking down at Samui who seemed to have the same level of anxiousness in her features as he did. Atsui tapped his foot on the floorboards impatiently. "Come on Naruto, where are you?" Atsui asked mentally. His hands tightly gripped his clothing which only served to showcase his displeasure.
There, down on the field in its center, stood the Chunin hopefuls. "Naruto-kun is rather late. I didn't expect this kind of thing from someone like him," Haku said to herself as she looked around. "He doesn't do things like this which makes it all the more strange. He's only ever been late when there was an emergency or other things that took up his time," Ryuzetsu explained. Haku placed a finger to her chin while Sai kept his small smile. However behind that smile did late some slight worry for Naruto's disappearance. He already knew where Sakura was. She should have been done by this time, but it looked like Sai was wrong this once.
Temari and Kankuro watched as Gaara stood at their center sporadically fidgeting. Where was his prey? He was going to kill all the members of Team seven and feed their blood to his mother. Temari and Kankuro grimaced. Gaara looked like he was ready to engulf Konoha in the desert of his sand if Team Seven didn't appear.
"Heh I knew forehead would drop out. She probably couldn't take the competition," Ino remarked with a shrug of her shoulders. Chouji and Shikamaru glanced to each other. "You really think they would drop out Shikamaru?" Chouji asked. Shikamaru quickly shook his head.
"That wouldn't be suitable to Naruto's personality. The guy's always been punctual. Plus dropping out is something Sasuke wouldn't do either. I would even think that he would be the first one here," Shikamaru stated. Chouji only reluctantly nodded in agreement with what Shikamaru was saying. "Still that's one blessing for me. Now I won't have to fight Sasuke-kun if he doesn't show," Ino said shiningly. Shikamaru shook his head. Truly a troublesome woman in his honest opinion.
On their own, Fu and Kurotsuchi didn't really seem to care, or at least Fu didn't. Kurotsuchi had been looking around for the blond as well. She honestly didn't know why but she knew she wouldn't enjoy this if Naruto wasn't involved. In fact she honestly thought it would be more tedious to try to win without him there to be a stepping stone for her. Plus her grandfather was watching. Now wasn't the time to go making mistakes and screwing up. She had to make chunin. She just had to.
Meanwhile, Samui tried to remain impassive to the entire situation. Never mind that Omoi and Karui seemed to never let her out of their sight, but she couldn't outwardly express her concerns over her brother not being present. But she truly did wish he would show up, if only to calm her nerves. "I'm sure he's fine. I can only hope that he is," Samui thought to herself.
In front of all the chunin hopefuls stood a jonin with his headband equally functioning as a bandana over his head. He flicked the senbon in his teeth. Stood in the middle of the stadium, was one of the Hokage's Elite Guard, Shiranui Genma. Genma had also noted that Team seven was absent. Well, it wasn't his problem. If they couldn't show up then it just showed that they weren't ready. As Genma was ready to speak, a leaf chunin quickly came up behind him. Genma frowned as he leaned his head to listen. The chunin whispered into his ear. Genma raised an eyebrow. "I see. So that's what it is. I swear we're getting more and more lenient by the day, but if that's the case then I have no right to object," Genma thought to himself. He nodded and the chunin disappeared. Looks like it was time to get started.
"Alright genin, that's enough talking. Stand up and make yourselves proud. You are in the finals of the Chunin exams," Genma told them. It was at this time, all the teams took into account the vast number of people who were looking at them eagerly, watching them, judging them all. "Hey wait, I thought we were going back into the Forest of Death," Karui argued. Genma sent her a look.
"That will be explained in just a moment, now it's time for you to be quiet. Hokage-sama is about to speak," Genma firmly replied which kept Karui from speaking. Genma was easily starting to see why Ibiki had been in a bad mood since his exams. They were all truly brats, but Genma couldn't help seeing the irony that he had been that way as well.
Once silence was given, people watched as one of the giant Tv screens showcased the Hokage standing to his feet. "Since the founding of the villages, this event has been seen as a festivity, a celebration, and an honor for all to attend. Together we all bear witness to the next generation filling in the soles of the shoes of the old generation. Together we bear witness to history in the making. It is here that the nations watch their shinobi in combat for the benefit and glory of their village, but we also watch in order to remember why these exams were given. For peace, for understanding, and for…the salvation of the sins of the old generation. Now let us watch as this year's genin face off and test themselves. For we are shinobi and the shinobi are the ones which endure their hardships. I, the Sandaime Hokage of Konoha, along with the Raikage of Kumo, Kazekage of Suna, and Tsuchikage of Iwa, announce the beginning of the finals of the Chunin exams!" Sarutobi announced over the wide vast people. No sooner had he finished did the stadium erupt in thunderous cheers and applause. All the noise only served to make one lone Nara on the field very annoyed. Genma could agree.
Seeing that it was over, for the most part, Genma turned around. "Now then, you will all be heading to the Forest of Death. There you will each be split off and given your coins. It's rather simple, you have one coin and your objective is six. So fight five times then leave the Forest of Death, however you could also choose not to leave and fight everyone," Genma replied. Ino quickly raised her hand. "Why would we do that?!" Ino asked. Genma resisted the urge to sigh.
"Contrary to what you think, just because you get six coins doesn't mean you'll become a chunin. In fact you could lose entirely and still make chunin if you show your abilities and potential are capable enough. Your focus should be to give yourself as much time for people to judge you and your performances," Genma said. Ino wisely stepped down from her questions. "But if we feel that we've showcased enough then if we have six then we can leave?" Kurotsuchi asked. Genma quickly nodded.
"Correct. As for the giant tv screens, well you didn't think we were going to let civilians, nobles, and others near the training ground did you? They will all be watching your performance through the camera feed. You should all remember where the Forest of Death is. Get going, you have fifteen minutes to get your butts over there," Genma said. The genin gasped before they rushed off out of the stadium. As each one left, Genma looked back at the entrance to the stadium just waiting for three people to arrive. Hopefully they would get here before it was too late.
However it didn't matter, even without them the Chunin Exam Finals had begun.
KG: Nah don't worry about me. I've been feeling better. Wifey's been forcing me to get some more exercise as well as take some time off from work. Again I apologize that I made you wait. Well looks like I'm putting the cream soda on hold for awhile. It sux, but as I have been a loyal disciple to its sugary, soda-y flavor, I know it will return to me one day!
Doctor: You're not done with rehab!
KG: Aw Dammit! I'm tired!
Doctor: Don't tell me, tell your wife!
KG: People…don't get married. Anyway, stay breezy, protect what's important to you, review, and GET ME OUT OF HERE! however whether you help or not, you will all RESPECT THE CREAM! (whew) that felt good.
