It had been twenty-one days, three weeks exactly, since he had been put into the Small World attraction and not much longer since he came to life.
He was aware he was the only Small World doll in a wheelchair, but it made him feel better seeing a human in a wheelchair pass by every now and then.
It was his job to sing Christmas carols with the rest of the Small World dolls, but because he was the only disabled doll, he did feel a bit alienated from them.
It was a Friday night, only the 2nd December, when another doll approached him to tell him about the annual Small World Christmas Parties. One every Friday until Christmas Day. Then, to his surprise, he received an invitation.
So, off he went - with the help of a few fellow Mexican dolls to get past the holiday decorations.
The Christmas Party wasn't quite what he expected. The dolls had spent all day carolling, so he assumed they'd continue to do that into the night.
Not so.
In the Finale Room, all dolls of all nations, races, religions, and now abilities, had all gathered to play Christmas music and dance and sing together. Even though not everyone believed in Christmas.
That astonished the newest Mexican doll, as it was so unexpected. But-but in a good way.
This was a ride where everyone saw each other as equals. Friends. And when one celebrated, so too did everyone else.
And he found himself dancing and singing to the Christmas music like everyone else.
When everyone went back to their spots for morning, he found himself receiving an invite to the annual Small World Hanukkah gathering.
Immediately, he decided to himself that he would go. He had nothing to lose and only friendships to gain.
Disney Parks' first ever physically disabled character made his debut three weeks ago. It's been 67 years coming to be honest. Being in the disabled community I can honestly say never noticed there wasn't a disabled character (besides the mute Orange Bird) in the Parks before. And that's… kinda sad, really. But it's great that he exists now. He's a Mexican doll and appears in the Mexico scene, but he also appears in the finale scene. So far, he's only in Disneyland, but will be debuting in Walt Disney World and Disneyland Paris next year.
