It was getting further into December and much to the chagrin of the Tiki Room birds, there was nothing festive about the Enchanted Tiki Room with only nineteen days left until Christmas.
When they flew outside the Tiki Room to meet with the Orange Bird, as they always did, they concocted a plan to raid the Jingle Cruise for decorations.
Ignoring Orange Bird's protestations (it's hard to take note of the protests of a mute bird, after all), José, Michael, Pierre, and Fritz all decided to take the tinsel, the presents, the lights, and some candy cane decorations.
With only a sigh, Orange Bird followed them.
Outside the ride, Michael nabbed the fairy lights. He took the lights in his claws, but couldn't find where they were plugged in. He just decided to fly and tug on the lights anyway, hoping they'd pop out.
In the ride's queue area, José was having a hard time pulling the candy cane decorations from the wall. Namely that he couldn't figure out how to get it off with his beak. Or his claws. But he wasn't going to give up - if he could figure out a picture frame, he could figure out a candy cane.
Pierre was at the docks. In his claws, grabbed the red and gold tinsel from the front of one of the boats, but as it was wrapped around the rail, it didn't come off so easy. So, with his beak, he did his best to pull it free.
On the ride itself, Fritz was pulling the Christmas present decorations out of the water and away from the ride scenes to put in the Tiki Room. One by one, he took them in his claws and flew away with them.
Orange Bird, meanwhile, was the lookout. If any Cast Members passed by, he was to alert the Tiki Room birds. A difficult job for a mute bird, but he'd served as the lookout before.
It had taken a few hours, but they'd finally grabbed enough decorations between them to deck the Tiki Room.
With the help of the rest of the birds - and Clyde and Claude's unhelpful Christmas carolling - they'd all managed to deck the Tiki Room. And once they were back on their perches, they admired their handiwork.
To them, it was incredible. Amazing. The lights caught the tinsel just right, making it look wonderful. They couldn't hang the candy cane decorations, so instead, they just leaned them against the walls. And the presents under the crooning Tiki Room flowers were perfect. Well, they didn't actually have a tree, so they made do with the flowers.
To the custodial staff who found it the next morning, it was horrible. Lights draped unevenly and anywhere. Tinsel ripped to shreds and scattered about. Candy cane decorations as a tripping hazard. And presents in the middle of the Tiki Room as though stolen and hidden by The Grinch himself.
'Own up guys!' the janitor shouted, 'Which one of you did this?'
Disney should just decorate the Tiki Room for the holidays, okay.
