Chapter 5

What would be known as the Dark Ages would come later. However, throughout the span of the entire world, it was felt.

Felt from the massive walls of Ba Sing Sai, to the ruins of the air temples, likewise to the highest peak of the volcano mountains of the fire nation, and felt along the crescents of the water tribe borders. Everything touched by electricity that was not a lightsaber…was rendered without electricity.

Ben had wondered why lightsabers had not stopped working, however he figured it was due to the focusing crystals being utilized to power their weapons alongside the electronics. But Ben knew that right now it was not the time or place to question such things.

Ben sat down in the middle. Taking his place along the seat of the grandmaster. His hand along his chin as he tried to his best to hide his exhaustion and pain that he was still reeling with from the earlier crash.

Haru and he both rose and walked by the others side. The earlier exhaustion from setting out in the middle of the night still reeked from their forms, rather instead of it being one night…now it was two.

The caffeine pills were the only real thing keeping the Master Jedi's on their feet as they paced through the halls of the temple. Many parts of the city were destroyed and there were far too many people to count.

Some were too injured, some had lost their homes, and some had even gone into a state of shock. The temples were open and those long winding halls were filled with makeshift tents and homes for people getting aid from the New Jedi Order.

Ben walked with a fevered determination. Trying to hide it from the other Jedi and the citizens seeking shelter. However, his eyes were wide and a crimson red of exhaustion. "Korra," He murmured. "Have we gotten any messenger pigeons or anything?"

Haru slowly nodded. "Yes, her parents are saying that she is fine, and the white lotus have kept her safe within the compound. Remember, Benjamin. That the water tribe has always had issues with electricity and likened the lives of the primitive era. They are a proud people."

Ben nodded. However, he saw out of the corner of his vision a person slowly approach him. "Ethan." Haru saw the figure clearly.

Ethan, the son of the first redeemed Sith of his New jedi order. Also, one of Ben's true formal apprentices. He bore the light beige robes of a Jedi Knight, and his lightsaber clung to his waist.

"Master Haru…Master Wilum," Ethan bowed in front of them. Haru was able to return it, but Ben knew that such movement would cause him to keel over from exhaustion. So, he merely nodded to his apprentice. "Many within the order are asking questions. They are growing restless and wish to find the source of this…thing."

Ben shook his head in response. "Then let them question," He responded back. "As Jedi we are needed here and anywhere else greatly affected by this disaster. We are not going on an ill-fated journey."

However, Ethan slowly shook his head. "I understand, Master. However, I am a watchman…if there is anyone else that should leave then…"

Ben shook his head. "Ethan, I need you here and with me. Right now, we have no idea what sort of threat that is out there was able to cause such destruction. I can't afford to lose you or any other members of the order."

Ethan's muscles tensed, but he let out a sigh. Slowly shaking his head, but Ben's hands went along his apprentice's shoulder as he gave him a tight squeeze.

"There will be a time for us to strike, Ethan," Ben spoke. "But that time isn't right now. We must stay vigilant and protect those that needs to be protected."

However, he saw Ethan's features tense, his eyes narrowing as he gazed at Ben. "Even though our enemies may be preparing to attack us within our very temple. Master, you must realize how in the dark we are."

Ben could feel it. The strange spike of fear that generated along his apprentice's connection to the force. However, there was something there. A strangeness that Ben did not understand or comprehend as his apprentice merely walked away from him.

Haru walked to his side as he watched the beige of Ethan's robes slowly swathe in the wind. The young man slowly making his way through one of the temple doors as both men sighed.

"Ben, you felt it…didn't you?"

Ben nodded, sighing once again as he combed through his locks of hair. "You know that many within the order are afraid right now, that…"

However, Haru shook his head. "That wasn't what I was feeling. Yes, I felt his fear, but there was something else," There was a darkness within Haru's eyes as he gazed along his master. "There was something more in there. Anticipation, anxiety, but also the feeling of excitement. Ethan wants to fight; he wants a battle."

Ben took in the information. However, he shook his head causing Haru to stare at him in alarm. "Haru, many, especially the younger members of the order have grown complacent…and this complacency makes them eager for a challenge."

Ben gazed at the faces of his Jedi. His Jedi, some of them were so young that they thought monsters were real…while there was some nearly as old as Ben and Haru. Many members of the Jedi, especially Ben's and Haru's generation had fought in some shape or form in the century year war.

Whether they were on Ben's side…or they had fought underneath the banner of the Fire Nation and Lord Fowl's Dynasty of The Sith. They had seen the bloodshed, felt the darkness, and had killed people. Many of them understood the darkness of battle and war.

The next generation were the children of those fallen Sith now turned into Jedi. However, those children were trained and had fought in many battles. Nothing like the massive warzones that happened during the hundred year war, but against Dark Lord Rowan's resurged Sith and Fire Nation Remnants.

However, Ethan's and Meetra's generation did not know what true battle and war actually was. Rather, they heard about the great feats through legends and storytelling. Stories and tales to inspire bravery and heroism into this generation…and Ben silently feared that it got too much within their heads.

"Ethan is fine. He's just going through the unrest that many of the apprentices are going through." Ben spoke.

Haru looked back at Ben, then back towards the leaving form of Ethan. The old man silently sighing as he took his masters words.

However, the door banged. The quick steps of a figure moving towards them drew their attention as Ben saw the features of their face.

"Ty Lee…"

Ty Lee bore her Jedi cloak tightly wrapped around herself. Her left hand dug into the cloak as he could see movement underneath her cloak. In her right hand, her blazing yellow blade was already ignited.

"Ben…"

Her blade was unignited as she reattached it back to her belt. Her eyes widening as her husband brought her into an embrace. However, he felt something nestled around her breast…or rather someone.

"Papa…"

Ty Lee moved her heavy robe aside. Exposing their son. Isaac still bore his pajamas, his grey eyes peering into his father's own golden as he picked up his son and brought him out of his wife's grasp.

However, he was rewarded with Ty Lee's fevered eyes. Red, like the inner scarlet of a lightsaber blade. Her hands shook, her eyes were wide as she lunged for Ben.

"Benjamin," She spoke. Her hands grasping along his own robes, losing control of her voice as the civilians and other members of the Jedi Order stared at the family. "Where is Meetra, is she with you!"

"What?" Ben aimlessly replied to his wife. His head snapped instinctively to Ty Lee's side. "What are you talking about…where is Meetra!" He repeated back to her.

"I don't know, I thought she went with you…"

Ben's grip on Isaac tightened. His breath growing heavy as sweat started to trail down his brow. The exhaustion, the thing he was holding at bay nearly caused him to fall to his knees. Republic City, or for all they knew…the whole world was going through one of the worst disasters the world had ever seen. And their daughter was gone.

"I found her stuff packed up; I think she…"

Ben combed through his locks of hair. His teeth snapping like a dog. "She ran away," He turned back to Ty Lee. "What did she take with her?"

Ty Lee's eyes went back to her husband. "Supplies, food, and camping equipment…" However, she hesitated. Her eyes going towards the ground. Her hands trembling. Ben took a deep breath, removing his heavy robe and wrapping up his son within it so he could stay warm.

His hands locked around Ty Lee as he brought her into a hug. Her body slouched, lacking as she nearly collapsed within his grasp. "Ben, she took it…she took his lightsaber."

Ben sighed. His mind drawing back towards Jet. The blissful warm memories of a his brother…a talented Jedi Knight who died far too soon.

"She took Jet's lightsaber, didn't she?"

The sudden, but familiar voice both stirred the adults as they turned around. Being led by a pair of Jedi was Tenzin, the son of Aang and the last air bending master. Likewise, Katara, his mother and their longtime friend that helped restore balance.

They rushed to embrace the pair as they briefed them on the situation. "Bumi," Katara spoke. "Where is he…is he safe?"

Ben quickly nodded. "We haven't been in contact with anyone since the power shut down. However, Bumi retired as a Jedi Knight to pursue his career as a Jedi archaeologist, last time I checked he was deep within the Earth Kingdom territories."

Katara sighed in relief. However, Tenzin rose his voice to speak. "Uncle Ben, many within the Republic City council are demanding the Jedi to answer and solve what has happened."

"Solve?" Ben snapped. Outstretching his hand outside and to the people that are being nursed. "We don't know what to solve…we don't even know what happened."

Katara went in front of both men. "No one knows what happened, but let's figure out what we do know," She turned towards both Tenzin and Ben. Ty Lee had taken Isaac and brought him to the side for some food and water. "What do we know?"

Tenzin was the first to speak. "There was some strange pulse, it went throughout the world and shut off all the electricity. Blimps, cars, and anything else that needed power…they all shut down," Tenzin cocked his head towards Ben. "How do your lightsabers work?"

Ben shrugged his shoulders. "I don't exactly know," He answered. "But me and Haru felt a great disturbance within the force."

"You think it may be something spiritual?" Katara raised the question.

Ben shrugged. "If it was spiritual, I would've expected Korra to be here with us and all. She is the Avatar, and did she have a reaction or something to it?"

Katara merely shrugged her shoulders. "She felt something and was ill for a bit, but she said that she was fine when she awoke."

Ben nodded along with her assessment. "That has been happening to the other force sensitives here. They've been getting sick and slipping into brief comas, and then awaking completely fine."

Tenzin rubbed his bald head. His back going to the wall as he let out a tired breath. "So, there is a good chance that this may be spiritual. But I don't understand who would do this…"

Tenzins head stretched out towards the ruins of Republic City. To the numeriuse injured and wounded that lined up the temple floors as the Jedi healers rushed to heal all they could.

Katara sighed. "Benjamin," She spoke his name. Benjamin seeing the steel of her blue eyes. "Who do you think is the enemy?"

Only for those eyes to widen when he rose his shoulders. "Katara I keep saying this…I don't know," He said. "The Fire Nation Remnants have been shattered. The Dynasty of The Sith and Rowan's Sith Remnants have all been destroyed. There the only groups that could've done something like this…"

"But they've already been beat." Tenzin said.

Ben ran his fingers through his hair. This didn't make any sense to him. The world has been at peace for decades, but now they could be fighting a whole new threat. A threat that had the ability to create a widespread EMP linked to spirit energy.

This group of people had to ascertain such power to cause such a thing. However, his eyes widened. His heart skipping a beat as he felt a spike of anxiety travel along his spine. Who said that it was a group, it could be someone…or something.

He thought back to Exar Kun's Tomb, The Valley of The Jedi, and uncovering Celeste Morne's hiding place. They were all located within this world…hidden away until a lucky person, or a force sensitive stumbled upon them.

God knows that some random person stumbled upon a facet of great power. A truly scary thought indeed. He sighed, rolling his eyes closed as he heard the footsteps of his wife as he knew what had to be done.

"Me and Ty Lee are going to find our daughter, and during this journey we'll try and figure out what needs to be done to solve this threat," he turned towards Katara. "Can you take care of Isaac for us because…"

However, it was his wife that first objected. "No, Benjamin," She cut him off. "You need to find out the source of all this."

Ben snapped his eyes to his wife, only to see Tenzin nod in agreement. "She's right uncle Ben. We can use my sky bison to get around to find the source."

Ben swallowed his spit. Shaking his head. "No, Ty Lee. She's my daughter…and I am going to be by your side to find her."

Ty Lee shook her head. "She's my daughter too, and you are the Grandmaster of The Jedi Order. You have a responsibility to not only Meetra, but to the Order and the safety of this world as well."

Ben grimaced, turning his head away, but a second later he felt Ty Lee's fingers curl along his cheek and bring him back to face her. "She's my daughter too…and this is my fault."

Katara walked to her side. "I'm going to come too. You'll need all the help you can get…"

"Then, who's going to watch Isaac?" Ben questioned.

"He'll be fine with my family while we try and figure out what has happened."

Ben's eyes looped towards his son and then back to his wife. The family man within him wanted to throw everything away in pursuit of finding Meetra, damning everything else. However, he knew that this was the wrong decision.

As Grandmaster he held not only a responsibility to his family, but to this world. So, he sighed as he combed through his locks of hair. "Ok," He spoke. "Fine."

Ty Lee was a talented Jedi Master who would be aided by there long time friend, Katara. While he and Tenzin would try and figure out the source of what has been plaguing this world.

"Okay," Tenzin spoke as he clapped his hands together. "Me and Uncle Ben will head out now. I'll arrange for a sky bison to be sent for Ty Lee and mother."

Ben nodded, about to walk away but his eyes once again stopped on Ty Lee and Isaac. Wrapping both arms around the pair as he pulled them close. "Find her, Ty Lee." He slowly spoke. Kissing her forehead as his fingers curled tighter along his son.

With a nod of determination, the Last Air bending Master and The Grandmaster of The Jedi Order set out to figure out the source of what has ensnared the world. As Ty Lee and Katara both hesitantly waited.

However, unknown to them all…a young aspiring Knight Errant was making her way through the countryside. Hoping to achieve the proof that she had the power and the will to become a Jedi Knight.
