Here is my latest try at Harry Potter fanfic. Now, some important notes before reading:
Yes, this is a game-fic but do not confuse it with 'Gamer' webtoon. There will be no grind-fest. I have removed a lot of game mechanics to make it simpler. After all, the game is one part of the story, not the whole.
Second, like my other stories, I will do a lot of world-building here and will try my best to seamlessly add the new elements to the Wizarding world. But, since the story will mostly be told from Harry's perspective, it will be slowly revealed.
Now, onto the story.
Disclaimer: A General disclaimer – I do not own Harry Potter, or any other characters or IPs from other franchises written in this story.

4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging
Harry gave the living room one last look. It was clean, organized… and empty. His aunt, Petunia, and the rest of her family went on a vacation. His uncle, Vernon, received something good from his job and decided to go on a trip. Of course, he was not included since his freakishness might bring bad luck to their wonderful trip.
It hurt, but he was used to it.
Usually, he would have been left under Mrs. Figg's care but she was not around this time. And his uncle did not want to wait for her.
At least they made sure he would have enough food until they came back.
Still…
Harry looked at the calendar. Today was July 31. It was his birthday, and yet it felt like any other day. Nothing special.
He slowly walked toward the window. In the beginning, he used to wish for a lot… for his parents to come back, for his aunt to love him, for his freakishness to disappear.
He moved the curtain, just enough, to take a peak outside. The sky filled with dazzling stars greeted him.
But now, he did not wish for much.
He knew that nothing would change, that it would be like every other birthday. But he still could not help it. He took a shaky breath, and closed his eyes.
"I wish... I have a friend."
Someone he could talk to, someone who would listen to him… and someone who would like him despite his freakishness.
He opened his eyes… then he blinked. Once, twice. Then he let out a scream.
Countless tiny stars formed the ground that he was standing on while the night sky above him was endless.
This was definitely not his aunt's living room.
Initializing the system…
Harry took a step back, and looked back and forth, "Who's there?"
Synchronizing with the Gamer's psychology…
"Are you a ghost?" Harry did not know why but for some unknown reason he was not as scared as he should be.
Out of nowhere, a soft tune started playing. It sounded warm and comforting. It made him feel more relaxed.
Welcome young Harry
Harry blinked few times, and then slowly looked around. It was the same voice from before but it sounded… gentler.
Congratulations
You have been chosen as the next Gamer
Harry opened his mouth, then a second later, closed it. He did not know what 'Gamer' was, he did not know why he was chosen or why he was even here, but he was scared to ask since most of the time adults got annoyed when he asked any questions.
You are not dreaming, young Harry
You are brought here because you are special
Harry flinched. Did the person mean…
No, young Harry
You are here because you are special, because you are amazing
Harry let out a small smile. This was the first time he heard something so nice about him.
Do you wish to learn more about 'Games' and 'Gamers'? If so, I will share the basics of 'Gaming Knowledge' with you
Harry, feeling more relaxed than before, slowly nodded his head. Not a second later, he felt a dull headache. It was not bad, just uncomfortable. Then… something clicked.
"So those games Dudley plays on his console uses same system like you," Harry squinted his eyes after voicing out his thoughts, "How did I know that?"
I am the Tutorial mode of the System
Since you have no prior knowledge about 'Game' in general, I have added the basics of it directly to your mind which will make it easier for you to understand the System and its mechanics
As a 'Gamer', you can now see the world through the system
A giant screen appeared in front of Harry making him let out a squeak and take a step back. The screen lit up and started showing Little Whinging. Even though it was night, there were still some people walking around the street. It was nothing uncommon. But the unusual part was the numbers floating above their heads.
You can now see the life-force and the power of many individuals
The scene changed and started showing a different city, one that Harry had never seen before. There were more people on the street. But they were passing by a large gate with glowing lines as if they were not aware of it.
You have now access to many hidden areas and treasures of the world
Harry started rubbing his hands and looked down, "Why me?"
Because you are a 'Chosen One', young Harry
Harry shook his head and softly replied, "I am not."
The system never lies, remember that young Harry. When you return, use the system and find out the truth about yourself
Harry did not understand what it meant but did not raise any more questions.
Now choose a class
"Wot?"
The large screen disappeared, and a second later, five large posters appeared. Well, at least they looked like so to Harry. Each had a picture of a person wearing a costume and a word was written at the bottom part.
Classes are the framework which allows the Gamer to wield different weapons and possess different sets of skills & abilities
Harry blinked. Once. Twice.
…
Each class has its own superpowers. Choose the one you want to have, young Harry
Harry's eyes widened and he started hopping, "I can have superpowers?!"
Yes, choose the superpower you want by selecting a class
Harry smiled but it waned when he noticed the posters started to distort. Out of nowhere, the color of the sky started to change. This time, Harry was scared, "What's happening?"
Stars are intervening…
Harry opened his mouth to ask what the person meant but closed it the moment he saw the newcomers. Three stars came out of nowhere. Like actual stars with exact shapes and sparkles, Harry squinted his eyes, and they had a large jewel in the middle, "Stars?"
D1v1n3 0n3s
Pr!m*rd! l *ne$
tRaNsCeNdEd OnEs
Harry lowered his head and shoulders to make himself look small. Unlike the system person, the stars' voices were loud and echoing.
Stars are extremely powerful beings who govern their own worlds. They are interested in you, young Harry. That is why, they are offering special classes, each with unique superpowers
Harry swallowed down the question 'Why' and just nodded his head.
One of the stars came forward. The color of the shape was black and the jewel was purple. The jewel was glowing… no, Harry squinted his eyes again, it was more like the jewel was on fire?
Star of Solitary is offering you the 'Necromancer' class
Immediately, another poster appeared. But this time, "Hey, that's me."
Instead of a random unknown person in a weird costume like before, the poster had the image of him. Harry in the picture was older and was surrounded by many black knights. But the most mesmerizing part, and the scary one, was his scar and eyes which now had the same purple color as the star's jewel.
The Necromancer class focuses on the deep and forbidden knowledge of death and darkness. A Necromancer can raise undead minions and can harness the power of souls and spirits.
Harry did not say anything other than nodding his head.
The scary star fell back and another one took its place. This one was bright yellow in color while the jewel was a deep blue. And it was actually sparkling.
Star of Divinity is offering you the 'Paladin' class
The picture of the poster changed. This time he had blond hair… and he looked like He-man? The cartoon Dudley liked to watch. At least, he was wearing more armor than He-man.
The Paladin class utilizes divine magic and abilities. A knight who wields a holy-elemental artifact and fights for order and justice with his mastery over both magic and weapons.
Harry let out a small smile and nodded his head.
The last star looked simpler than the rest. The color of the shape was white and the jewel was a simple yellow.
Star of Solidarity is offering you the 'Summoner' class
The moment Harry saw the new image, he knew he liked it more than the rest. Harry in the picture looked exactly like him, same hair, same eyes. But what stood out the most was his smile. He was happy… and he was standing beside a dragon… A dragon! There was also a girl who had wings behind her back, there was a cat who had a jewel on its head, and there was this giant red dog. And he did not know why but to him everyone looked happy in that picture.
Summoner class makes contracts with various beings, such as elemental fairies, animal spirits, and mythical beasts; after which he can summon them by his side as a companion who will attend and assist him
Harry gulped when he heard the class's description. He asked timidly, "Companion means friend, right?"
"Yes, young one."
Harry blinked. It was a different voice this time. But it was gentle like the system person which gave Harry the courage to ask, "So if I pick this class, I will have the superpower to summon a friend?"
"You will be able to summon many friends, young one," The new voice replied back, "Friends who will laugh with you, friends who will guide you, and friends who will protect you. But you will also have to support them and love them. Will you do it?"
Harry smiled and eagerly nodded back, "I will."
"Even if they do not look like a human?"
Harry frowned and looked back at the poster. Yes, he was the only one normal there, but it did not matter, "I do not care how they will look like or what kind of power they will have. If they are my friend, I will take care of them. Promise."
"Does it mean you will accept the class and my blessing?"
Harry blinked. He did not understand completely what the voice meant but he still shook his head, "Yes, I wish to be a summoner," Then he looked down and quietly added, "I wish to have a friend."
"So, you 'wish' for a 'friend'. Very well, I, Star of Solidarity, will personally help you with your first summon."
Harry wanted to ask what the voice meant but had to close his eyes and cover them because of the intense light that came out of nowhere. A few seconds later, when he opened them, he was surprised to see that he was back at his aunt's place. He looked around. He even opened the curtain and looked outside but everything was back to normal.
He felt tears coming out and no matter how hard he was trying he could not hold them back, "It was all just a dream?"
External Interference detected
A transparent screen appeared in front of Harry making him jump back.
Tutorial Assistance activated…
"System? Is that you?" Harry asked as he tentatively took a step toward the screen.
Re-programming the charm 'Bond of Blood'…
Harry got closer and slowly extended his hand. His jaw dropped when his hand passed through the screen. He pulled his hand back immediately when the words inside the screen changed again.
Re-programming completed
"System?" Harry asked again.
Welcome, Harry
Harry looked at the screen, expectantly, "So, it was not a dream?"
No, Harry
Tutorial mode needed some time to make adjustments for you to have an easier time in the beginning since you lack essential 'Game' knowledge and there were other external factors involved
It also added the extra benefits given to you by Star of Solidarity
Harry nodded as he wiped his eyes.
Event Quest Added
Taking the first steps
Objective: Complete all the tutorial tasks
- Learn the basics of the system and your 'Summoner' class
- Complete the Tutorial Dungeon (Taking up Arms)
- Explore your 'Home Area'
- Find the 'Game Merchant'
- Complete the Tutorial Dungeon (Leaving the Nest)
Reward: Each task will be considered as 'Sub-Quest' and will give appropriate rewards after completion
Reward: One summoning scroll (Unknown tier) – After completing all the tutorial tasks
Harry squinted his eyes, "What is a quest?" He blinked as he realized he was not wearing his glasses. He hastily looked around and found them on the ground. But the moment he put them on, everything became blurry. He took off the glasses and all became clear again, "I can see… without glasses?"
For the first question
Hearing the voice, Harry turned toward the screen.
Quests are tasks that you have to complete to gain rewards. There are two types of Quests: Event Quests are mandatory ones that you will have to take. (Regular) Quests are the ones where you have the option to accept or reject them.
Most quests will give various rewards upon completion. Some quests will even give bonus rewards depending on your performance. At the same time, many quests will also have penalties if you fail to complete them.
The quest -Taking the first steps- is an Event quest so you did not have the option to reject it. But it also does not have any penalties or time-limit
Harry let out a deep breath. At least he did not have to worry about any punishments for now, "So, I will have to do…" Harry paused as he counted the tasks, "five tasks?"
Yes, but do not fear, the tutorial mode will guide you through most of it
Harry smiled and nodded back.
For your second question
You have selected a class that is fundamentally different from your origin. That is why your physique and psyche went through a hard reset.
All your debuffs have been completely removed. As for the buffs, they have been removed and added to your inventory as 'Unique Items'.
Harry opened his mouth, but a second later, closed it. There were quite a few terms that he did not understand. But he was not sure if he could ask about it. In the end, he just nodded his head.
Check your full status by thinking or saying the word 'Status'
"Status?" The moment Harry uttered the word, another screen appeared right in front of him. While he did not jump back like the first few times, he took half a step back.
Name: Harry Potter
Level: 1 / 80 (Next level: 0 / 1000)
Class: Grand Summoner
Titles: The Gamer, The Boy Who Lived
Health: 150 (2.5 per minute)
Mana: 350 (7.5 per minute)
STR: 5
CON: 5
DEX: 5
INT: 15
WIS: 5
CHA: 5
LUK: 99
DEF: 0
Specialty:
Summons: ?
Harry's eyes widened as he tried to read all the information written on the screen. At first, he did not understand what the numbers meant but then it hit him. He looked at the first screen while pointing at the second, "This is my status, like those RPG game characters."
Yes, this screen shows your complete status
Would you like to learn more about your status and attributes
"Yes, please."
The first screen disappeared so Harry focused on the second. He noticed certain words started glowing.
Starting from the beginning
Level shows your collected experience, growth, and overall power which affects your health, mana, and attributes. It also shows how many experience points (XP) you need to reach the next level. Doing quests and completing dungeons are the two easiest ways to level up.
Classes are the framework which allows the Gamer to wield different weapons and possess different sets of skills & abilities. The Gamer can have multiple classes but only one class can be activated at a time.
Titles are 'Perks' that individuals earn through accomplishing special tasks or, in rare cases, they are born with them. Titles give various benefits, but in certain situations, they have drawbacks. The Gamer can earn many titles but can only equip four at a time. Certain Titles cannot be removed at all or requires special conditions to be removed.
Health shows the amount of life-force an individual has. TAKE SPECIAL CARE OF THIS. If the number reaches 0, you will die.
Mana shows the amount of magical energy an individual has which is required to cast spells or use abilities. TAKE SPECIAL CARE OF THIS. If the number reaches 0, you will faint and if not treated properly you will die.
Harry gulped when he heard the last two sections and vehemently nodded his head. He would be sure to keep an eye out on those two parts.
Attributes determine the person's strengths and weaknesses. Leveling is the easiest way to increase the attributes. Another way is to perform special training or to complete specific tasks.
Strength - STR
Determines the person's overall physical strength. This attribute affects the base damage of martial arts, and physical-type weapons.
Constitution - CON
Determines the person's overall fitness. This attribute affects overall health, health regeneration, and stamina.
1 CON = 20 Health
1 CON = 0.5 health regen per minute
Dexterity - DEX
Determines the person's overall reflexes. This attribute affects accuracy, evasion, and speed.
Intelligence – INT
Determines the person's overall intellect. This attribute affects overall mana, mana regeneration, and the base damage of magical spells and abilities.
1 INT = 20 Mana
1 INT = 0.5 mana regen per minute
Wisdom – WIS
Determines the person's overall collectedness. This attribute affects common sense, calculating perception as well as the ability to learn and reason.
Charisma – CHA
Determines the person's overall charm. This attribute affects persuasiveness, attractiveness, and the ability to lead.
Luck – LUK
A unique attribute that affects the person's 'Fortune'. It improves the chances of getting better items, good results, and lucky encounters.
Defense – DEF
An attribute that focuses on damage reduction. For most individuals, this attribute can only be increased through 'Equipment' and 'Titles'.
Loyalty
A special attribute available only to 'Summons' that shows how close the summoner is with that familiar. This attribute can only be increased through completing certain tasks. 100 points are considered 'Max' loyalty, and if loyalty drops below a certain value the familiar will not listen to their summoner.
From the midway of the explanation, Harry was holding his head with both hands. This was a lot to take in. So much information and so many events occurred in just a short amount of time… he was finally feeling the strain. But hearing about the last attribute, his brain woke up completely, "Summons… I can summon, right?"
Yes, you have the class skill 'Summon' which allows you to call an already contracted familiar
Harry did not understand the complete meaning behind the answer but unlike last time, he found the courage to ask, "Does it mean I can summon anyone now?"
Yes, you have a special familiar gifted to you by Star of Solidarity. To summon him, think of the Star and say 'Summon'
Harry nodded and took a step back to create some distance from the screen. He raised his arms, pointing forward with his fingers wide apart. He felt his heartbeat increasing and his hands shaking. So many 'What-ifs' questions started forming in his head. He closed his eyes and shook off those questions. This year, this time, it was different.
He thought about the warmth he felt when he was talking to Star of Solidarity.
"Summon."
He felt exhausted right after he said that as if he had just finished cleaning the whole house in one go.
"Hi, my name is Jirachi."
Harry opened his eyes and felt his jaw drop.
There was a small, cute fairy-like creature floating in front of him. He had short, stubby legs, longer arms, and mesmerizing eyes. And it looked as if the fairy was wearing a star-like cap on top of his head… well, half a star.
The fairy slowly floated closer to him, "Are you my summoner?"
Harry nodded his head before collecting himself. He took a deep breath and extended his arm, he had been practicing this for so long, "Hi, my name is Harry," He felt a lump in his throat but continued regardless, "Would you like to be my friend?"
The little fairy smiled and grabbed his hand with both of his tiny ones, "Hi, my name is Jirachi, and I also want to be your friend."
Then he floated closer and, to Harry's surprise, hugged his face, "Yay, my first friend."
"Yay…" Harry hugged back, it was getting harder to hold back the tears now, "My very first friend."
It was then Harry noticed the changes in the screen.
Jirachi
Jirachi is a mysterious but friendly humanoid Pokémon that was exclusively created for Harry Potter by Star of Solidarity
To see Jirachi's status, think or say it out loud
While holding Jirachi, Harry followed the instruction, "Jirachi's status."
Name: Jirachi
Level: 1 / 100 (Next level: 0 / 1000)
Type: Ultimate (Mythical Psychic Pokémon)
Health: 200 (2.5 per minute)
Mana: 1400 (30 per minute)
CON: 5
DEX: 5
INT: 60
WIS: 20
DEF: 10
Loyalty: Max
Harry did not understand the numbers much but what made him smile when his eyes landed on the 'Loyalty' attribute. He squeezed Jirachi who giggled back at him.
"Best birthday ever…"
