Chapter 21

Kayla laid her newborn baby boy back in the tiny bassinet the hospital provided. She wrapped him up nice and snug and gave him a soft kiss on the forehead letting a smile play on her lips. She still couldn't believe it, she had a son, a beautiful baby boy and he was absolutely perfect. As she turned around to sit back on the bed , she pulled the bassinet closer to her side of the bed and thoughts began to consume her. 'I still can't believe Randy was here and he actually witnessed the birth of his son…and he didn't even know it.' she sighed and looked over at the sleeping baby 'Honestly I have Randy to thank for this little angel.' her thoughts were then interrupted by a male voice on her left side.

"You alright Kay?"

Kayla looked over at John who was now standing next to her, smiling as he glanced over at the baby boy "Yeah, just thinking." Kayla replied softly.

John smiled down at the new mom "You still can't believe it can you?"

Kayla looked up at him with a huge smile "God No, but he's here…"

John sensed a bit of sadness in her voice "Kayla I may be totally out of line here but…" he paused and took a seat on the chair near the hospital bed "Is there something bothering you?"

Kayla tried to force a smile as she sighed "There shouldn't be because I just received the most amazing gift in the whole world but…" she paused and shrugged her shoulders "I just wish Randy was here to share in the happiness."

John sighed and shook his head "I hate to say this but I warned you about this, I told you not telling Randy was going to come back and haunt you."

Kayla didn't get mad, she didn't get frustrated, she wasn't even upset with Johns comment because she knew it was true. She swallowed the huge lump forming in her throat and tried to bite back the tears that were treating to fall "I should have listened but I couldn't get the courage to tell him, I was too afraid of the consequences."

"And now?" John questioned

"I still can't." Kayla wiped away a single tear with the back of her hand

John sighed frustrated, he thought her answer would be something completely different now that she realized she made a mistake by not telling him "Didn't you just say you made a mistake on not telling him when you first found out you were pregnant?" he questioned "And now the baby is here and you want to continue keeping it from him?"

Kayla groaned frustrated "You don't understand John I can't!" She exclaimed a little louder than she wanted.

"Why Not?" He asked confusingly.

She looked over at him with hurt in her eyes "He has Kim, his girlfriend, he gave her that title…" she paused for a moment to wipe a few tears away "For him to do that to someone she has to be special, and I don't want to walk into his life acting like I have a right to ruin that relationship he started."

John felt pain for her, he hadn't realized she had thought so much of Randy's relationship with Kim, because truthfully John knew it was just a coverup relationship to move on and coverup his feelings for Kayla but he couldn't tell her the truth, again it wasn't his place. "But Kay-"

John was cut off by a happy Nikki walking into the room with a cup of water in her hand "Look who I found while I went to go grab you some water." she stated as Brie and Bryan appeared from behind her.

Kayla shook off her feelings and the conversation she just had with John and plastered a smile on her face "Oh my god! I can't believe you guys were both able to come!"

Brie and Bryan walked over and gave their hugs to Kayla and John as well, who sat next to her. Brie smiled "Oh you know we had to make time to come and see this handsome little boy." Brie stated as she set down her purse and walked around to the other side of the bed looking down at the tiny baby in the bassinet "Oh Kayla he's so beautiful!"

Nikki walked over to where John sat and handed Kayla her cup of water, while she took a seat on Johns lap. Bryan followed his girlfriend to the other side of the bed next to the baby as well. "Oh Kay can I hold him?" Brie asked sweetly.

Kayla laughed softly at Bries excitement "Of course!"

Brie slowly and gently lifted him up and into her arms, and she was speechless, she absolutely adored this little boy. Bryan smiled looking down at the little boy in her arms "I can't tell who he looks more like yet."

This earned a small laugh from all the friends in the room, a few seconds later Nikki decided to speak up against the silence "So have you figured out a name yet Kay?"

Kayla smiled and nodded "Yes and this little boys name is…" she smiled looking over at her baby in Bries arms "Jacob Keith Orton."

The middle and last name caused the whole group to look at each other with mixed expressions on their faces. "Wait." Nikki was the first to speak up "You gave the baby Randy's last name?"

"And his middle name?" Brie added in.

"Guys this is Kayla's decision…" John chimed in.

"Yeah but…" Nikki started "How can you give the baby his last name when you don't want anything to do with him being a father to Jacob?"

Kayla sighed and ran a hand through her hair "Listen guys, despite the fact that me and Randy have been through our share of hardships, despite the fact that he has moved on, despite the fact that I'm trying to move on, and despite the fact that I haven't told him he is a father, I still want Jacob to be recognized as what he is, which is that he is half of his father."

The group stayed quiet at that, she had a point, it was respect to both Randy and baby Jacob for her to give him Randy's last name, despite Randy not knowing nothing about Jacob. Everyone just stayed quiet and decided to drop the topic, they didn't want to put Kayla in an uncomfortable position or think of Randy any more at the point.

Kayla although did not take her mind off the topic of Randy "By the way, how did Randy know that I was giving birth and where?" she questioned looking right away towards Nikki. "Hmm?"

Nikki opened her mouth as if in shock, she tried to play it off like she had nothing to do with it. "Wait…You think I-" she paused and felt herself not being able to come up with an excuse "How could you think that I would-"

Kayla cut her off with an eye brow raised "Nikki…" she stated in a tone that let Nikki know that she knew it had to be her who said something.

Nikki groaned and threw her hands up in the air "Ok fine it was me!" she confessed "But I did it because I knew you needed someone here with you and I knew neither me nor John nor Dwayne were going to make it, and correct me if I'm wrong but in your heart you knew you really wanted Randy to be the one in that delivery room with you."

Kayla sighed and uncrossed her arms from her chest, Nikki had a point, she did want Randy there, she wanted him to be the one consoling her and telling her she could do it, she wanted him to be the first one to lay eyes on the baby, and he was. "How did you know he would even get here in time for the birth if both your planes were delayed?"

Nikki bit her lip "Well…" she began "Randy was actually still in Tampa with Kim from when we went out for drinks the night before, so he was only like an hour plane ride away, so we knew he would get here sooner regardless."

John shook his head and let out a small laugh, he couldn't believe his girlfriend got away with doing this and Kayla wasn't even mad about it. Bryan noticed his laugh and smirked knowing exactly what he was laughing at but Brie was the one to speak her mind first "I can't believe you actually got away with doing that Nik."

Kayla laughed softly at Bries comment and shook her head "Now wait I never said Nikki was off the hook for doing that."

"What?" Nikki exclaimed "But you are happy I did it, Admit it!"

Kayla let a small smile creep on her lips but refused to admit anything to Nikki and have her think she was right. She just shook her head and opened her arms, motioning for Brie to hand her Jacob. Reluctantly Brie handed the baby back over to the mom and smiled watching Kayla hold him so close to her.

"We are so happy for you Kay." Bryan commented

Kayla smiled up at him and then heard the rest of the groups speak up with their best wishes and congratulations. She had to admit, she had never felt so full of love and happiness at this moment, just this little baby boy made her whole life change and change for the better, she couldn't wait to take him home and care for him for the rest of his life.

11:00pm

Randy couldn't sleep, he sat up on his bed and sighed frustrated. Kayla was consuming his mind as usual but now it wasn't just Kayla, it was her and the baby boy…For some reason ever since her saw her give birth to that baby he felt something that he couldn't explain, he didn't know whether it was because he cared so much for Kayla or because he was so close to what was going on but whatever it was he felt a closeness to that baby boy as well.

He ran a hand over his face and groaned, for the first time in awhile he was actually able to spend sometime back at home and go to bed earlier and he couldn't even enjoy it because he couldn't let himself fall asleep. He looked over at the form of the sleeping blonde next to him and licked his lips, he didn't know what he was doing getting into a committed relationship with her to be honest. If anything Kayla should have been the first one he got into a committed relationship with, but he was too stupid to see that back then and now…'Well now its too late, I fucked everything up, and she's found happiness with Dwayne.' he thought to himself. But he couldn't be more wrong.

He lifted himself off the bed, knowing full well he wasn't going to get any sleep that night. He grabbed his basketball shorts from the floor and slipped them on as he walked over to the sliding door that led out to the balcony. On the balcony he slipped his hand in his pocket and pulled out a packet of cigarettes. He had swore off cigarettes, had quit smoking, he hadn't smoked in years but he felt so stressed and so confused he just gravitated right back to them. He pulled one out and covered it with his hand to shield it from the wind as he lit it up and took a drag.

He sighed and leaned against the railing of the balcony and became consumed some more with his thoughts, taking another drag of his cigarette. He looked down at the cancer stick in his hand and he sighed in shame. 'God If Kayla knew I had began smoking these again she would cut my fingers off.' he thought and gave a soft laugh. She always cared so much about his body, she cared so much about taking care of him but all he ever saw was the great sex they would have during the night and then when the morning came she was just a simple girl to him again. But some of those nights they would stay up talking and to be honest he loved it, he loved those nights but he didn't want to make anything of it.

Flashback:

"Randy would you relax your going to give yourself an anxiety attack…" Kayla rubbed his bare chest trying to calm him down.

Randy sighed with his eyes closed, laying his head back on the pillow "Kay this match is a big deal!"

Kayla nodded her head "Hunnie I know its a big deal but I also don't want you going out there, going crazy in the ring and getting hurt!" She exclaimed, with her right elbow propped up on the bed and half of her body hovering over his.

Randy opened his eyes and was met with her beautiful green ones. He grabbed her hand from his chest and kissed the inside of her palm and up her wrist "Your the only one who can make me think rationally you know that?"

Kayla let out a soft laugh "Well yes that's because I'm actually the sane one out of both of us."

Randy smirked and raised a brow "Oh you think so do you?"

Kayla shook her head "Oh no baby I know so." she stated and lifted her leg up and over his torso to straddle him.

Randy smirked watching her get into her position "What do you think your doing?"

Kayla matched his smirk and leaned down brushing her lips against his whispering softly "Calming you down some more."

Randy kept the smirk on his face on licked his lips, next thing you know Kayla gets tossed over on to her back and she let out a loud squeal "Ahh!" she giggled as Randy now laid over her small frame.

"Randy?"

Randy's flashback came to an end as he heard a small voice calling him from the frame of the balcony doors, he turned around and saw Kim with a robe wrapped around her frame. She smiled over at him and questioned "You couldn't sleep?"

Randy took one last drag of his cigarette and flicked it off the balcony onto the street "No but I'm coming in now." he answered as he walked over to where she stood at the door and leaned down about to give her a kiss until she backed away and made a face at the cigarette stench "Oh baby, not after you just smoked."

He sighed and nodded in agreement "Yeah, sorry." he nodded toward the bedroom "Come on lets go back in.

2 Months Later: Mid-November 2012

"Sleep well baby boy…" Kayla whispered looking down at her now 2 month old Jacob. She giggled as he looked up at her with a smile. He wasn't tired at all it seemed like but he defiantly need to take a nap. She grabbed his pacifier from the side of the crib and placed it in his mouth and as soon as she didn't she saw his eyes slowly closing and he would soon drift off into deep sleep. She didn't even need to bother to put the mobile on, sometimes that didn't even help, it was just a distraction.

She walked out of the nursery, slowly closing the door behind her and walked downstairs into the kitchen where Nikki, awaited her starting on a bottle of red wine. Kayla just shook her head with a giggle.

"Did he go to sleep alright?"

Kayla smiled and took a seat with her at the kitchen table "Oh yeah, he does good with naps, but he's starting to notice a lot more things so he gets distracted easier." she explained

Nikki smiled and took a sip of her wine "He so precious Kay…" she then sighed and swished her wine around in the glass "I just wish I could be that lucky some day."

Kayla sighed and reached over grabbing her friends hand in hers "Nikki stop." she looked into her eyes "You know how John feels about this."

Nikki sighed a leaned back in her chair "Yes I know but it always going to be in the back of my mind, now especially with Jacob here."

Kayla bit her lip, she couldn't really say much to help her friend, they both knew John didn't want to get married much less have kids, and its not that he didn't love kids, he did but he just feels that they aren't for him. Kayla didn't know what to say to her friend or how to console her "Have you brought it up to John anymore?"

Nikki shook her head continuing to swish the wine in her glass "No, I'm too scared of the argument it might bring."

"I think you need to reconsider." Kayla shrugged "babe this is killing you, you want to be a mom, you want kids!"

Nikki took another sip and took a deep breath "On to better things…" she said changing the subject "Drink some wine and get drunk with me."

Kayla laughed at her offer "First off I can't because I'm breastfeeding Jacob and Second, girl how does it look a mom of a two month old getting drunk with her best friend while he naps, have you lost it?"

Nikki smirked but then turned it into a frown and exclaimed "Boo your boring now!"

Kayla rolled her eyes "No, I'm just a mom." She laughed softly.

Later that Night:

"John!" Nikki called out opening the front door to their house "I'm home!"

A few seconds later John emerged from the living room and greeted Nikki with a kiss, pulling her in close to him, he whispered against her lips "Finally." he smiled and led her into the living room with him "How did it go with Kayla?"

"Good." She smiled slipping off her heeled black booties "How did the interview go today?"

"Uh, Good Good." He replied taking a seat on the couch, as Nikki followed and snuggled into him, laying her head on his chest she let out a deep sigh. John looked at her with a small laugh "Long day with Kayla and Jacob?"

"Oh yeah!" She raised her head to look up at him "But it was so worth the trip, I can't get enough of Jacob, he's so precious…" she then decided to make her move and start a baby conversation with John "Makes me think of how precious our baby would be."

John groaned and rubbed his temples, this conversation was going to be long and hard and he knew it "Nikki, I thought we talked about this."

"But John, It would be so great, and I'm not saying it would have to happen now-"

He cut her off with a firm tone of voice "Nikki No."

She looked at him and stayed silent a bit "I need a good reason why not."

"You should have enough respect for me to just accept the fact that I don't want to." He stated calmly.

Nikki nodded her head and looked down at the floor. John saw the display and sighed, he didn't want to hurt her he really didn't, but she knew where he stood on this topic and he wasn't going to budge, he had his right to his won feelings and he warned Nikki about this they day they started dating. "Nikki, its not like I'm dropping this bomb on you, you knew about this when we started dating."

Nikki looked up at John almost sympathetically, feeling bad for him that she even brought this conversation up "I know, it just…It runs through my mind sometimes and I can't help but want it."

"I know." He stated softly "But If you feel this strongly about this, maybe you need to think If I'm the right person for you." when he said this it broke his heart because he didn't want to loose her, he loved her so much but he needed her and wanted her to be happy, he just wanted to make sure she could still be happy with him.

Nikki stood frozen by what he said, and finally decided to speak up 'What are you saying?" she sighed frustrated he actually said that to her "Of course your the right person for me and you always will be!" she exclaimed

"Ok Ok, take it easy.." He paused and gently grabbed her hand "baby, I just needed to make sure that your happy and you always will be happy with me."

Nikki let a soft smile play on her lips "I am and I will."
