Emily's POV

I looked back over my shoulder. Morgan was out of sight. But just because she was out of sight...didn't mean I was out of sight. Morgan had...her ways. She had the whole world on display with her big computer. She could watch just about every corner of the world with that thing...Anywhere that had a camera was subject to her eyes, and she had those Hornet things flying around to be her eyes in the places where there were no cameras. The worst part was that there was no way to know if she was watching or not. Even if she claimed she could watch everything at the same time before...she was human now, and the human mind can't really take in everything at once. So she could be watching, or she might not be. But she would be watching me for sure. There wasn't a single moment I could relax.

I looked down at my hand. There was a little thing in my hand. A tracking device, Morgan told me about it before. This was how I was supposed to track them down without just guessing randomly. Find one and let them lead to the rest. I put it in my pocket.

I ran a hand through my hair. This was...how did I get in this mess. Well, I knew how I got into this mess. I was enough of an idiot to try being her friend. Not sure what I could have done about it, anyways. Maybe I could have destroyed her computer or her phone remote thing...Could I even have done that? I didn't know about it until recently, when it was too late. And...even if I tried, she would kill me. She took down her own monsters with mostly her bare hands. Even if she was weaker than she had been as a Spectre or whatever, she could still kill me. She would kill me...if I displeased her...If I failed her. And she had the audacity to call us friends.

She didn't need me. She didn't need me conscious, even more. Did she really think we were friends? Well...it didn't matter much. I had a job to do now, figure out where Jeremie and his crew were and also William.

Well, first thing to do would be walk back to Kadic. Morgan had it so that monsters and robots would defend me, so I didn't have to much to worry about in terms of someone else killing me, but if people did see me and recognize me it would bring up a lot of attention and would probably make them change location. It was in my best interest to stay low key.

So...where to start? Kadic Academy? That seemed like a good idea. Well, it was the last place I saw any of them. I doubted they were still there now...they were stupid if they were. However, I could maybe find some clues there. I had to be careful, though. No group of people would recognize me more than the students of Kadic Academy...assuming they were still there. It wouldn't surprise me if the other students and teachers were still at Kadic. That was where they were when the attacks started. They had some food there, and rooms...so it would make sense if they made a stronghold or community there. There were a lot of those...for now. The number diminished all the time.

Humanity was being slaughtered...and I was working for the executor.

I started walking down what once had been a busy street. It was like an apocalypse movie. Well, except for the lighting. The sun was still up. The sun would still come up. The universe at large didn't care about the matters of us humans. The sun would still come up, even if all of humanity was wiped out...which was honestly becoming a possibility. And I...hate to say it, because I know people in the apocalypse are supposed to be all self sacrificial and be able to give their life to save Earth, but...I was scared. Plain and simple.

The universe didn't care about my excuses, either.

Anyways, the world was a mess now. A big, stinking mess. And yes, I do mean that literally. One thing apocalypse stories don't usually talk about is the smell. Let's see, burnt and rotting corpses, a lack of electricity...and plumbing...in a lot of the world. Yep. It was actually kind of funny, Morgan walked outside one day, sniffed the air, and got this big smile on her face. And she said "Wow! This is really unpleasant!" I didn't understand her...

I got to Kadic. It was largely untouched...which was surprising. Was it possible Morgan had some sort of sentimentality towards this school? Or, did the monsters just not show up here yet?

I was walking through the boys dormitory, on the way to Jeremie's room, when I suddenly heard a high pitched barking. I turned around, in the direction of it just in time to see Odd Della Robbia leaving his room with his famous dog in his arms. I always wondered why none of the adults caught him. I was never going to snitch, but it just mystified me that he never got caught.

He must have heard my footsteps or something because he turned and looked at me. We locked eyes for a moment, recognition and confusion in his eyes. And then he turned and ran. It caught me off guard, so I froze for a moment, but then ran after him. We ran out of Kadic and out into the streets. I didn't know how far, or where we went. All I knew was that Odd Della Robbia could lead me to the others.

And then I was tackled to the ground. I looked up and saw a girl with blonde hair on top of me, making a peace sign with her fingers. I recognized that girl. She was the one that broke Morgan's laptop. I slapped the tracking device onto her. I threw her off and looked around, but Odd was gone. And when I looked for her, the girl was gone too. Nothing else happened...it wasn't some sort of trap...but they evaded me. Maybe that was for the best. I had no idea what Morgan would do with the information, but it wouldn't be good. I tried my best, so she couldn't get mad at me. I hoped...

I took out my phone and ran the thing that would actually track the tracking device. It was going into that building there...the community pool complex? I walked into the building. There was caution tape everywhere, and abandoned.

I looked into the pool, something drew me there...and I froze.

William Dunbar was floating face up in the pool. His skin was loose and falling off, the pool had a red tint from decomposing tissue, but his face remained in tact...That was, without a doubt, William Dunbar. His throat had a huge slash in it. I was gonna be sick. This was the first time I had seen someone's corpse that I knew so well...Wasn't...Didn't Morgan say he was on her side? Then why was he dead?! And...monsters didn't do that. If he had been killed by a monster or one of those huge robots he would have burn marks or been crushed or something dramatic like that. Monsters were not precise enough...individually intelligent and graceful enough to go specifically for the throat. No...no, a human did this. And whoever did, oh boy, were they in for a bad time.

I had no way of telling who it was, though. From the look of the body, William had been floating here...a while. I didn't know if I could make myself tell Morgan about this. She...she liked William, I was pretty sure. He had come up a few times when we talked. Imagine that, a guy driving her crazy. It was the most normal I ever saw her. I...couldn't tell her about this, but I had to report. So, I took out my camera phone and took a picture of the body. I would just show it to her.

Now where to? I looked down at my phone. The blonde girl was on the move. I guessed she and Odd just used this building to get through. There was no use chasing after them now. I would wait until the little dot on my screen stopped moving for a while, and then just go there at my leisure. Just to make sure they were actually there. I had to not get caught, of course. If they caught me they would move...and probably figure out the tracking device thing. Which...would put me back at square one.

I went to a park to wait it out. At least the forests were the same. Morgan was focusing on high density populations for now. There was no need to destroy the trees, in her eyes. So, at least for now, the trees were the same...I could almost forget what was happening...

"Emily...why are you just sitting here?"

I looked up. It was some guy with a brown paper bag in his hands. His voice had that tinge to it...that thing that meant it wasn't just some guy. It was Morgan talking through some guy.

"You know the possession thing creeps me out." I said, frowning.

"I have something I need to attend to personally." the guy explained...Morgan explained...whatever. "Why are you just sitting here?"

"I got the gps tracker on the blonde girl. I'm waiting for her to stop moving so I can find out where they're hiding, stead of just chasing after her now."

The possessed man nodded, accepting that explanation.

"Have you run into any of the others?"

"Odd was with her. He was getting his dog from Kadic. And...uh..." I sighed and held up the picture of William for Morgan to see. The mans face remained composed, but his grip tightened around the bag.

"I see." The man said, then thrust the bag into my arms. "When you find where they're hiding, put this outside the entrance. Make sure Stacey is not there."

"Stacey?"

"The blonde girl."

"Right." I nodded.

"And you might want to leave before this guy wakes up. You might have to shoot him if he sees you and you want to live." Morgan said, and then the man collapsed on the ground, a black cloud thing flew out of him. That was a spectre. That was the thing Morgan used to be. I breathed a sigh.

I looked down at the bag. It was sorta greasy at the bottom...and it had a sticky note on it. It had loopy handwriting and a drawing of a tiny Stacey laying on a hamburger. The note said: I got some food for you. Sorry if it's a lil cold~ Enjoy! ;)

I looked inside...it was a bunch of burgers and fries. Enough for Odd to have one meal. Heh, cause he eats a lot. It had to be poison or microbots or...something. There was some trap to it. Not that I had any choice...I was being watched.

I looked down at my phone. She had been still for a while. it wouldn't hurt to hide out closer to her. I didn't want to be here when that guy woke up from his nap. I didn't want to have to make that choice.

I found where she was and hid behind some trees. Their hideout was this little shack. Somehow I was expecting something...bigger? Something less...pathetic? I waited there for a while, but finally Stacey peaked her head out the door and ran off. I guessed she was their supply runner. She was to them as I was to Morgan. But I bet she was working with them because she actually wanted to. If that note was Morgan pretending to be Stacey, then Stacey seemed like a nice person. Too bad we had to be enemies...

So I put the bag by the entrance, knocked lightly on the door, and ran back to cover. Odd opened the door and took it in. Mission accomplished, I guessed. I called Morgan and told her the good news. She told me to just sit tight for a little bit. Eventually Emily came back with a bag of stuff, supplies, I didn't know. She was in there for a few minutes...and then everyone ran out of the shelter. I looked down at the phone. The tracking device was still in the shack. They figured it out.

I ran after them. Morgan would be really upset if I let them get away. I wasn't sure what I could do, but I needed to know where they were. Ulrich wasn't with them, neither was Yumi, but the rest were. I had to admit I wasn't the most athletic person in the world. They outran me, but they never left my sight entirely. I followed them out to the city, into the streets, into the alleys.

And then suddenly, I was at a dead end...and they were gone...

An arm was around my neck, pulling me back and down. I panicked. I reached for the gun and shot backwards into my assailant. It was Stacey, I think. The others were around. I needed to get out of there.

"Manta!" I yelled, and a Manta came near. I jumped onto its back, and it flew me away. It flew me to our base. Morgan was waiting outside, her arms crossed.

"You did well, but falling for that trap and panicking was foolish. You need some training. Come." She gestured for me to follow her inside.

This is the day of the Rob chapter.
