Odd's pov, the only one left.
I am Odd Della Robbia: The last of the Lyoko Warriors. In my hand...I held the one and only weapon that could kill Morgan for good. It would not be like the multiagent. There would be no escape for her. She would die...and she would die...and she would die. And then-
And then...
And then my friends could finally rest.
Sissi in the Digital Sea, Taelia in the forest, William and Yumi at the pool, Ulrich...who knew where, Aelita in the maze, Jeremie in the computer room, and now Stacey and Emily, dead in this room. And soon, I would join them. I didn't know how I was moving, the poison had paralyzed me, but I heard Stacey screaming and...I stood up. And now I stayed up because there was something I needed to do before I died. I was going to die...the poison was working, eating me alive from the inside...ever so slowly. Fine. I would die...I would take Morgan down with me.
The monsters would have nobody to take their orders from. Humanity could still recover from this tragedy. There was hope...I was humanity's hope.
I always wanted to save the world...but why did it have to be like this...Everything I cared about was gone. Stacey was dying...she needed me, and I just lay there. That wasn't going to happen again. Nothing else would stop me...not poison, not monsters.
I holstered the EMP gun and took a look at the electronic map that was supposed to help me find Morgan and not get lost in these catacombs. It was a bulky little box with a screen and a couple of buttons. The screen showed a series of rooms and tunnels, like some kind of dungeon crawler. There was a button to zoom in and out. I didn't see much of anything on the screen, so I zoomed out until I started seeing yellow dots...a lot of them...surrounding a red circle with an M in it. That had to be Morgan.
I didn't see a way around the monsters to get to her. That only meant I was going to have to go through the monsters. She wasn't going to take anyone away ever again.
"I'll see you soon, Stace." I said, and kissed her forehead. She was cold, and growing colder...and it filled me with a fiery rage. I drew the gun and got going. There wasn't much time. I wanted to run to Morgan, to go on an absolute rampage, but it was enough of a miracle that I was up and walking. I wasn't about to start running, and that would make the poison spread faster. So I walked. Every so often I glanced at the map to make sure I didn't take a wrong turn. None of the yellow dots were moving, which meant Morgan didn't know it was me. Emily was telling the truth, Morgan wasn't watching. She was just looking to see a single person leave that room with nobody else alive.
It was only dimly lit in here. Not pitch black, but all it had were some dangling ceiling light bulbs every 30 feet or so. There were wires all along the walls. It couldn't all be the lighting...what were the wires? It didn't matter...She was going down. It was quiet in here...and utterly devoid of human life, you could feel it.
I came to a set of large double door and looked down once more at the map before putting it in my pocket. I didn't need it anymore, that look confirmed what I needed to know. She was in this next room, her and all the other monsters: beings of pure evil that deserved to die. I would not hold back. A burning sensation in my body reminded me I didn't have a lot of time. I flung the door open.
"Hey Emily, Wel-"
Morgan's eyes met mine from across the room, and she realized Emily wasn't coming. I wasn't going to give her any time to process. I aimed the gun for her chest. With this gun, any spot would do. I fired...and a Kankrelat jumped in front of my bullet. A blue ripple enveloped the Kankrelat and it exploded.
Well...
This suddenly got a lot harder.
Every single monster in that room was focused and shooting at me. These monsters were not going to stop me. I kept walking forward, dodging the lasers by moving my body slightly to the side. I don't know if it was because of the poison, or the situation I was in, but the lasers seemed to come at me very slowly. I could dodge them...and I just kept on walking. The monsters obscured my view of Morgan, but there was no doubt she was around and doing something. She always had something...but it didn't matter now. She would die. That monster was going to die.
There were three Megatanks, all aimed at me. I shot them, one, two, three. That was four bullets down...two more before I needed to reload, but Megatanks were the biggest threat besides Morgan. They could cut me in half. A Krabbe stood directly in my path. I kept walking underneath the Krabbe. It activated it's underbelly laser. I jumped up, knocked it over, and ducked behind it's shell. It's laser made a huge pillar of death, obliterating many smaller monsters and severing another Krabbe's leg.
It hurt. It hurt so bad...poison coursing trough my veins...but I wasn't done yet.
There were two eight foot Siberia robots. I tool the severed Krabbe's leg. It was surprisingly light for how bulky it was. I used it to go take care of some Bloks, one of which shot it's heat ray at me. I jumped through the hoops and it hit the Siberia robot behind me.
In this way, I made my way through an entire room of monsters. Sometimes I would catch a glance of Morgan. She had a holographic screen in front of her like the ones at the towers and she was furiously typing away. She was up to something. And then there were Hornets in the room. There hadn't been Hornets before, had there? I heard the sound of mechanical doors opening, and whipped my head around. How...did I miss that? There was a giant scanner on one side of the room...This was where all the monsters came from...wasn't it? A never ending supply...It needed to be destroyed or I would never get to her in time.
I couldn't just unplug the thing. I would be standing still too long. The monsters would get me. I continued to stride toward Morgan, taking down monsters left and right using their own weapons against them. The Hornets were taking pot shots, staying far away, but I could throw other monster parts into them, knocking them into the wall and crushing them. I could...cut the wire, I did something like that once before. I could not let myself get electrocuted, though. Morgan was still typing away...
I shot the scanner. Then, with the electromagnetic field in it disabled, I took a large piece of scrap metal, used all my might...and severed the wire before the scanner door could open again and birth new monsters.
As the monster count diminished, I could see Morgan start to type faster and faster. She was running out of time, and she knew it. I could only see glimpses, but there was something going on with the holographic screen Morgan was working on. The bottom half was a keyboard, and the top half was showing something very familiar...the superscan going of...a tower was activated. She had all the power she could ever possibly use...what in the world was she going to do with a tower...and as I continued to fight my way through a sea of monsters...I saw that it was going off over and over again. Just how many towers was she activating? A cold clammy sweat clung to my chest and the back of my neck. What...was she going to do?
I fought harder, a little desperate to stop her before she did anything else. And then...the monsters were gone. Nothing else to get in my way. I had a clear shot at Morgan, only a few feet away from her. I lifted the gun and aimed it at her once again. Nothing would stop me now. There was one bullet left...for her. I looked her in the eyes, the eyes of their killer, and-
And...what I saw was...Fear. Regret. Desperation. Anguish. All the things I had seen on the faces of my friends before they died...All the things that made someone human. There she was..at the other end of my gun...shaking.
Why the hell was she shaking? Why the hell did she wear the same expression as my friends? She was a monster. She turned the world into a rotten pile of garbage, she killed...so many people...I pulled the trigger.
Or...I tried to. My finger didn't move. I wanted to shoot her...to END this, but my finger didn't move. I had to do it, she could not be allowed to continue. I had to avenge everyone. I had to. But her face...What was wrong with me? Was she...trying to manipulate me somehow?
Yeah, that had to be it. She was making one last attempt at brutal manipulations, a last ditch effort, playing at my sympathies. Stalling for time.
I only had the one bullet left, left for her. What was she trying to do? So many towers and replikas, this big maze of tunnels, making the apocalypse. Was it truly all malice, was it truly all out of revenge? Was it truly all out of a quest of power, or sick fun? She was trembling at the end of my gun. What could possibly be so...Well, it could be she just feared for her life, but then, what had she been doing? It couldn't be all to save herself, she had been expecting Emily. Maybe she had a backup to save herself, just in case something were to go wrong at the last moment.
But what would go wrong? She had all the power in the world. A million towers to stop me, but no towers for anyone else. She took every single one of my friends out without activating a tower to do it, barely having to dirty her hands directly. It didn't make any sense.
So then what was it all for? Why did I care...something, something in her eyes. What was it all for? Maybe... Her father? Maybe...William? There was no use in doing something on that scale for her, I was the only obstacle left in her path. There was nobody to get revenge on anymore, but she was still going. Which meant it was for someone else. Morgan's plans up to this point had been ridiculously convoluted, instead of direct assassination. We knew she was capable of that. We thought she was just having fun toying with us. But her eyes...was this her true face? Was she, in her strange, cruel, twisted way...trying to do something good? Something that required all the power in the world...?
There was only one difference. She was willing to kill a human to accomplish her goals, and I was not. And in that moment, I could finally see Morgan for what she was...undeniably, tragically...human.
I couldn't do it.
Maybe this was a horrible mistake, maybe she was about to destroy the remnants of humanity. But I had to go with my heart on this one. Morgan was a master of deception...but this was not a lie. I bet my life on it.
Morgan saw my change of intention and slammed her hand down onto the screen.
"Return to the past, now."
The Earth trembled, and all of the lights in the area increased in intensity. I heard those words before...I knew what they were supposed to mean...but...I had no idea what was about now. cause what usually happened...didn't make any sense.
As she spoke those words, Morgan fear and pain seemed to melt away. She looked relieved...whatever it was she was trying to do...she did it. But, looking at her, the lights becoming too bright to distinguish her features...I had no idea if she had that evil smirk on her face, if she tricked me again. There was no way to know if this light led to salvation or annihilation, but I was not afraid. I had made my choice, and she had made hers.
The end
Yes, it does actually end there.
I have been working on this project for a very significant portion of my life. I started when I was nearly 13, and now I'm 20, through middle school, through highschool, and more than half way through college. This story, Morgan, and Taelia mean an awful lot to me, and as they have grown, so have I. I want to thank all the people who helped me over the years. Particularly Xanatos Stones (on this website with awesome writing and also on fiver if you want him to write something for you, check it out) and Terin Hyde. I couldn't do it without them and all the people who kept on reading, reviewing, etc.
So, what happens next? Well, I'm leaving that up to you, I'm giving this story to you. If you wanna write a continuation go for it, I'd love to read it, you should tell me about it. However, if you'd like to see the one I was specifically writing this story to match up to, see Odd the Great by Xanatos Stones, already in progress but left alone for a long time. Will he ever finish it? The world my never know.
But don't worry, you haven't seen the last of this story. I want to get the copyrights, publish a polished version of this as a book, and make it into a movie. Just watch me, I've only just begun!
Stay tuned, my friends, and as always, have an awesome day!
