Chapter 5: Night Chats

The 2 teens stay silent not knowing what to say. Until Shinji spoke up "sorry, I don't really know what to say."

He looked down at the table then glanced at Asuka who was agitated.

"Look Misato we were just slow getting to NERV because of him. Thats all! It's not horrible right?" Asuka finally said.

"It's very bad! Rei could have died! And that does now even explain how Shinji got a concussion." Misato responded. "Shinji may I ask how that happened?"

"Oh- I um- I don't remember. Sorry, all I know is that I fell and don't remember how." He had not lied, the last thing he remembered was seeing the flash of light behind them.

"Asuka how did that happen."

"Oh, um. He fell! While walking to NERV. Because of the earthquakes!"

"And why exactly didn't you fall?"

"Because if I fell then the world would've died." Asuka looked smug, but clearly wanting to leave this situation before the truth got revealed.

"Look I have a feeling that's not the entire truth. The roofs are all blocked off, odd isn't it. There is one little detail you forgot to mention, you 2 were on the roof."

"How did you know?" The pilots said in synch.

"The section 2 guard who got you two to NERV told me that's the last location you were spotted in before the attack."

"I didn't see how it was necessary information to you." The girl quickly responded in attempt to get away from that topic. She wanted to forget and cherish that moment on the roof all at the same time.

"Shinji why didn't you mention it?"

"I- um... Don't know. I guess it kind of slipped my memory for a moment."

"Look just tell me what happened from the moment you two woke up. I don't see why this is so hard for you."

"We ate, went on the roof, talked, saw an Angel went to NERV and I killed it."

"How did Shinji fall?"

"I already told you Misato!"

"And I don't believe that. A distance that short would have not in any way caused the damage it did. This is for Shinji's health I need to know at this point."

"We fell off the roof into the balcony under!"

"Was that so hard? Okay, how far would you guess it was?

"I don't know, maybe 14 feet or something." Asuka looked over to Shinji noticing the small bandage he had on his arm. His head had a small spot with no hair and bio degradable stitches. His arm also had a small bandage wrapping around and his leg likely did too. She couldn't help but feel bad for him. The boy was clearly in pain and didn't want to tell Misato what happed between them ether.

"Are we done now?" The boy said softly and quiet."

"Okay, I'm not getting any more out of you Asuka. Go do whatever you want. I want to talk to Shinji alone for a moment. I promise it won't be long. Then I can get some food for us."

Asuka got up and turned away from the chair and started walking away. She looked back at Shinji, he had also glanced back and she quickly turned her head away blushing. Stupid Baka making me like this.

She entered her room and sat on the bed for a moment to gather her thoughts.

The past days have been extremely confusing, I started it off furious at Shinji for good reason. Then it became romantic, then I saved his life and killed an Angel alone, with ease. The conversation that just had happened so strange, Misato pushed but not for what she expected, who knows what she was talking to Shinji about. It wasn't even a weekend, it was Monday for gods sake.Even when Misato got the answer to how Shinji got hurt she seemed to brush it off, something was off.

Asuka set in her room trying to hear what was being talked about outside the door, but couldn't hear more then a few words at a time. Eventually the talking stopped and she heard someone enter the bathroom. It was likely Shinji because there were also sounds from the kitchen. It was Likely just instant ramen but anything would suffice at this point, she hadn't ate in hours.

After a few moments she heard the shower turn off. She left her bedroom deciding to talk to Shinji before dinner she walked to the door then there was a knock at the door. She opened the door expecting to see Shinji, her smile instantly faded and turned into a frown seeing Misato.

"Food is ready!" Misato said with a smile then went back to the kitchen.

Asuka went to the kitchen and looked to her right. She saw Shinji, he looked mildly uncomfortable, and he clearly was dizzy.

Sitting down they all ate in silence together. Misato tried to break the tension multiple times but no one responded. They all finished and Shinji went to wash there plates.

"I'll get that!" Said Misato.

"Thank you." Shinji said with a slight smile before walking to his room. He gave a slight glance at Asuka on the way. She also went to her room. Misato then started cleaning the dishes, no longer trying to cheer the 2 teens up.

Asuka went back to her room, it was late in the day and she was emotionally exhausted. There guardian had now entered the shower and exited not long after.

After awhile of silence and no sleep she decided to go and ask Shinji what he and Misato talked about after she left. The girl left her bed and started to walk down the hall, every light was out and she assumed everyone would be asleep. Maybe he is awake, if not who cares.

She knocked on his door and instantly got a response.

"Yes come in!"

She opened the door to walk in and see Shinji siting up on the bed.

"Oh, Asuka." He said slightly surprised.

She sat down on the bed next to him and placed her hand on top of his. He tried to move it away but she gripped tighter. They both blushed and Shinji turned to face her. He could only see a faint outline of her face. She also turned to him and they looked into each others eyes. They both sat in silence not knowing what to say.

"I- couldn't sleep." Asuka said softly.

"Me nether... so why did you come here?"

"Because I wanted to talk."

He remembered last time she said that, then looked away slightly embarrassed.

"Don't get any perverted thoughts baka! I just want to talk this time." She said while moving closer to him.

"So what did you talk with Misato about?"

"Oh well she asked why we were up there, and how I fell. But I honestly don't remember how It all happened. The last thing I can remember is the flash of light." He said while turning to face her again there faces now only 8 inches apart.

"I see."

"So what actually did happen?"

"So right after the kiss we saw the flash of light as you remember, then we both got up and looked for a way down. Unfortunately we were unable to get down quick and we fell onto the balcony under us."

"Is that how all this happened to me?"

She simply nodded. They both looked towards the window, then Asuka got up and grabbed Shinjis hand pulling off his bed and to the widow.

"The view isn't as good from here, but it's pretty at night isn't it." She said watching the city from the now open window. There hands remained interlocked as a cool breeze came in making them both jump slightly. They quickly closed it as another gust of air came in messing Asuka's hair up.

She quickly released Shinji's hand to brush it all out of her face then turned to him laughing a little bit he had a smile on his face as they met eyes.

"That Blöder Wind!" She reached over and fully closed the curtains consoling the room in total darkness.

She reached for his hand again and took hold bringing them back down to the bed. Suddenly he felt vertigo return as he let Asuka's hand go and sat himself down facing the wall seeing and feeling the world spin around him.

"Maybe we should sleep. It's late and-" he stopped speaking when he felt his hands remove from his face and Asuka grab his side and turn him.

He opened his eyes to see a slight outline of her face, it had been distorted by the vertigo but he knew her well enough.

"Shinji, what do you think of me?"

"What do you mean?"

"Shinji you dummkopf! I mean how do you see me! What comes to mind when you think of me?"

"Oh I see. I honestly don't know. You can be so different at times. One day your the nicest person I know then the next you seem to hate me."

"I see." She sounded disappointed, then looked away from him and to the door, no light had came through. So they were still in a near 0 light environment. She then leaned on his shoulder and wrapped her left arm around his waist.

They both began to blush, nether saying a work, in silence as most of there time together had become recently.

"It's late Asuka. I think we should probably get to sleep."

"I see."

She lifted her head off his shoulder and turned to face him.

"It's quite dark out there." She said into his ear softly.

"I can help you get back to your room." He said sarcastically.

"That wont be needed." She stood up and got off the bed, Shinji began to lay down as he felt the weight of the bed suddenly shift.

"Wha-?"

Asuka had gotten into bed next to him and pulled the blankets over top of them both.

"What are tot doing Asuka?"

"I figured I might as well stay in here."

She inched closer to Shinji and rested her head only 3 inches from his and closed her eyes.

Not this again! What do I do?

He started to silently panic as he saw his roommate only inches away from him, and in the same bed. He then just forced himself to grab her back with his arm and pull her slightly closer. He could tell she wasn't asleep as she smiled at him then moved herself right next to him. She then held him and interwove there legs together.

They stayed like that for a hour, nether speaking, or fallen asleep. It was 12AM and they had to be up at 6.

"Shinji, are you awake?"

"Yeah."

"Why can't you sleep?"

"I don't know, I think it's insomnia though."

She moved her head up to look him in the eyes.

"So what are we to each other?"

"I really don't know. Everything is complicated right now."

She moved her hand up from his back and ran it down his face. They both blushed as Asuka moved herself to slightly lean on the wall, and Shinji did the same. He held her close as they embraced each other for a small moment.

They watched the clock for a moment before turning to each other again.

"So why can't you sleep?" Shinji asked.

"I don't know, I'm not uncomfortable I'm not anxious. My body just doesn't wanna let me rest I guess."

They both gave a small laugh and Asuka leaned in and kissed him. He leaned into it also and they remained like that for several moments. They both pulled back and caught there breath.

"Good thing there are no Angels around." They both said, then laughed before going back for a second kiss.

"What will Misato think?" Shinji asked just as the second kiss ended.

"She won't know. No one but us can know about this baka."

Shinji nodded in agreement.

"We do need to sleep though, only 5 and a half hours before we need to be awake."

"Sadly your correct." Asuka responded.

They both lay back down but not before one last small kiss.

Returning to there prior position they embraced each other and both fell asleep either quickly.

This chapter was hard to write, took 3 rewrite's and constantly making decisions for how things should go.

Originally this part was not meant to happen till the 10th or so chapter but I decided the rest of the story would flow better if it all happened now.

Majority of this chapter was just to give the 2 a moment to be together, as a continuation from the roof scene but they didn't have any issues, they could just fully let each other be happy. It might not be the most realistic, but it's nice. And I don't want the entire story to be miserable.
