A/N: This one's for the anon on tumblr who left an ask telling me how much they liked this story. U made my day, anon.

"Hello? Earth to Jackie?"

"Hm?"

"Jackie, c'mon, man, I'm trying to talk to you. Me. Talk."

"I don't feel like talking."

In the small space of Steven's cot, Jackie rolled herself over on top of her beautiful, beardless boyfriend until she was straddling him. Seeing as they were both butt-naked, she saw and felt his reaction to that, and smirked down at him.

"Let's make out again," she suggested and bent down to catch his lips between hers.

She hummed in pleasure at his responsiveness, the way his hands pressed her down against him and then spread across her back to hold her as he flipped them back over.

"Jackie," he whispered in her ear, his body hovering just over hers.

"Yes," she replied, breathless.

"I shaved my beard off for you today."

He was getting even better at this. Jackie nodded, biting her lip.

"The beard I spent months growing."

Her breathing got harder. He captured her hands and held them in one of his, over her head.

"You know what you could do for me in return?"

"What?" she mumbled, barely a whisper, her body squirming underneath his.

Steven pulled back to look her in the eye. "Stop using me like a body at your disposal to distract you from the fact your dad went to jail, and start answerin' my questions!"

Her high crashed and splattered to the ground.

She yanked her hands out of his grasp and shoved his chest. "Get off me!"

"Ouch! You're a ray of sunshine today, aren't ya?"

"Leave me alone!"

"Jackie, all I asked you was are you okay?"

"No, because my boyfriend's an asshole!"

"I'm your boyfriend, I thought that meant we talked about stuff on top of all the screwing–man, what the hell am I saying? You know what, neverm-"

"Wait, no, Steven, you're right."

"Damn it."

"It's just… I don't know what to do. I don't know what all this even means."

"Hold that thought." Hyde sat up and reached over to pull open one of his drawers. He threw her a shirt. "Put some clothes on first."

He pulled on a shirt and a pair of boxers too, and two minutes later she was halfway-clothed and tucked into his side. Stubbornly, she refused to speak.

"I'm sorry about your dad, Jackie."

His words went straight through to her heart. She felt… God, she felt so vulnerable. She'd been yearning for this earlier and now that she had it she wanted to run away. But she also wanted to cling on. She wanted Steven to tell her that she had nothing to worry about. That he would take care of her for the rest of her life. That everything would be okay.

But those were not the sort of words Steven Hyde ever spoke.

"I'm sorry I made you shave your beard," she said, opting for a joke. "I actually kinda liked it."

He sucked in a breath. "I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear that."

"Do you regret it now?"

He sighed. "Did it make ya happy?"

"Knowing you did it for me? Yeah."

"Then nah."

Steven Hyde spoke better words than she could have ever dreamed. She wrapped an arm around his torso, squeezing in closer.

"Thank you."

"I'll grow it back."

"Not for the beard. For… you know. Being here for me."

His arm tensed around her side. "Took me long enough."

She shrugged. "You got here eventually."

"Don't do that. Make excuses for me. I shouldn't've been such an ass earlier."

"Steven-"

"I'm just so used to you bein' the happy one. Usually it's you trying to get me to smile. And you're damn good at it too."

"I make you smile?" she poked his side.

"Shut it," he warned. "I wanted to be able to comfort you earlier. But you know words aren't really my thing."

"You did good."

"Made ya smile at least."

Jackie grinned, turned up her head so he could see it. "All the time."

Hyde rolled his eyes, but his feigned nonchalance couldn't hide the small blush that creeped up his cheekbones. His cheekbones that she could see so clearly now because he shaved his beard off. For her.

"Quit lookin' at me like that!"

"Like what?"

"Like a… a…"

"Ray of sunshine?" she teased, mimicking his earlier words.

"Yes," he said, sounding exasperated. "That's exactly what you are. An annoying, blinding, bright, hot ray of sunshine. The kind that gives you sunburns."

Jackie's smile was so wide now her cheeks were beginning to hurt. "Your ray of sunshine," she insisted, sitting up and onto his lap, both her legs squeezing at his hips.

"Yeah, yeah." His hands found her hips. He tugged her closer, and just before he kissed her, his lips barely hovering over her mouth, he whispered, "My sunshine."

They picked up right where they left off.
