Chapter 16

"So I ask again, what am I going to do with you?"

BPOV

"Kill me," Caroline's Mom said.

Inwardly I sighed as I leaned weakly against the wall. My wound wasn't closing any time soon and my neck wound was still bleeding slightly, just add on the stench of blood and I was most certainly did not have the energy for a verbal fight.

"No!" Caroline says running to her mother. "Mom, you won't tell anyone right?" The sheriff hesitated. "Please. Look, I know that we don't get along, but you'll do this for me, right Mom?"

"I can't take this. Kill me now," Sheriff Forbes said, clearly stressed.

"But you wanted to drag it out so painfully. Shooting at a man's daughter, that's a low blow," Dad says taking a step toward her.

"Killing a woman's daughter is a low blow as well," she says in response. Dad quickly grabs her.

I look to Caroline who screamed, "No!"

While I could understand why Dad wanted to kill the sheriff, I wouldn't want Caroline to be hurt by my father's actions. "Dad," I say hesitantly. Mother never listened to me, no matter how much I begged, but I was hopeful that Dad would listen. Dad looked at me from the corner of his eyes. "Please, it doesn't have to be like this. Maybe we could wait until the vervain passes through her system and compel her if she doesn't want to know or keep the secret."

"That sounds reasonable Damon," Uncle Stefan said before saying, "Don't hurt her."

"Relax everybody. Nobody is killing anybody," Dad said gently letting go of Sheriff Forbes before saying to her, "You're my friend." Glancing around at the mess, Dad says, "This has to be cleaned up and you need to be taken to the hospital." He sends me a knowing look.

I shrug sheepishly. "Sorry?" I apologize feeling ashamed that my father could see my witness. He didn't need to worry about me.

Dad rolls his eyes. "Sorry for saving my life. Don't you dare apologize for that." He then turned to Uncle Stefan. "Can you take care of things here, so I can take Bella to the hospital?"

"But what about the other two?" Uncle Stefan said gesturing toward the two unconscious officers.

Dad shrugged. "Babysit them until I return," Dad said as if it were the most obvious thing ever. "I'll compel them when I come back, we're going."

"But what if-"

Uncle Stefan couldn't utter his next word as Dad blurred to the two unconscious figures and took them out of the room. Running back into the room, Damon said, "There. Now that I have handled the scary people, I am taking Bella to the hospital before she bleeds to death."

I slowly began getting up, despite my dizziness, when my Dad quickly picked me up and blurred us out of the cellar.

"I could have gotten up by myself," I say weakly as Dad blurred through the forest.

"Yeah and that would have taken way too long," Dad said not slowing down.

"Mmm, true," I say after a moment. I feel my eyes drift shut as I ask, "Do I have to go to the hospital?"

"Do you have the bullet still inside you?"

"Yeah," I say in defeat.

"Then the bullet will be still stuck in you if I heal you with my blood. You're going to the hospital."

I sigh and keep my eyes shut. I was much too tired to argue with Dad.

"Bella?" Dad asks after a moment of silence.

"Yeah?" I say not opening my eyes.

"Keep your eyes open please," Dad says, "I need you to stay awake."

"Okay," I say opening my eyes. I notice the hospital approaching quickly and sigh. It looks like another trip to the hospital.

Not too long after, I passed out.

I slowly awoke to the sound of a monitor beeping and an aching head. Opening my eyes, I see my father looking protectively yet nervously at me.

Seeing that I was awake, he quickly masked his emotions and said, "You're awake."

I nod, confused as to where he was heading with this.

"I thought I told you to stay awake. Do you know how panicked I was when you just passed out? For a moment I thought-" Dad quickly ran his hand through his hair before shaking his head. "Did you know how worried I was about you?"

"I'm sorry Dad," I say upset that I caused him stress.

Dad quickly captured me in a tight hug. "Don't you ever scare me like that again Bella," he said holding me tighter.

I quickly return the hug with a teary smile. My father was worried about me. Dad cared. "I love you Dad," I say, trying to hold back a few stray tears.

After a moment's hesitation, Dad says, "I love you too, my little Bella."

Sometime later, Dad explained that the doctor removed the bullet and Dad had to compel the doctor to leave in order to give me some of his blood.

"Now that I am healed, may we leave? I really don't like hospitals," I ask as I remember the last time I had been to the hospital… with Edward.

Dad shook his head and said, "You really don't like hospitals, don't you?"

"No, I don't like them," I say seeing that Dad was already leaving to find the doctor.

"Then school on Monday should be no problem," Dad said walking out of the room.

I sigh at the mention of school, knowing there was no way I could avoid it.

I had school on Monday.

-BOS-

I don't like school. Sure it was fun the first 50 or 60 times, but now it seemed to be more of a chore repeating the same information over and over again. Why was I doing it again?

"Do you have your lunch box?" Dad asked, as I put on my jacket.

"Yep. In my backpack," I say absentmindedly.

"You could sound more enthusiastic," Dad comments, "After all, it is your first day at your new school."

I look up and smile apologetically. "Sorry, it's just the whole first day of school has kind of become routine for me, I didn't mean to ruin it for you," I say, hating the fact that I as ruining his first sending-my-daughter-to-school day.

"Make sure you're ready to go, the bus will be getting here soon," Dad says casually.

I furrow my brows in confusion. "But Uncle Stefan said that he would drop me off…"

"Well Uncle Stefan's car is broken, you guys are both taking the bus."

"Damon!" Uncle Stefan said angrily, marching into the house. "What the heck did you do to my steering wheel?!"

"Why I don't know? Why did you break your car?" Dad asked, playing innocent.

"This isn't funny Damon! Now how are we supposed to get to school?"

"Hmm… if only there was a big yellow box type vehicle that picks up kids for school… Hey I know! You can ride the bus with Bella," Dad says condescendingly to Uncle Stefan before looking down at his watch. "And I'd hurry if you want to catch the bus, it comes in two minutes."

Uncle Stefan's eyes widened before saying, "You're a jerk Damon," before blurring up the stairs.

Dad watched him blur up the stairs before saying, "I'll grab the camera so we can take some pictures and make it a true Kodak moment."

"Wait, you're taking pictures?" I ask nervously. I was always the one to take pictures rather than to be in them.

"Yep," Dad said walking back into the room with a camera in hand. "Now all we need is Uncle Stefan.

And to say that Uncle Stefan was hesitant for any sort of picture was an understatement. Especially when he say the sign.

"'Stefan's 626thfirst day of High School'," Uncle Stefan read his sign aloud. Sending Dad a dirty look, he says dryly, "Very funny Damon."

I chuckled slightly before apologizing, after all, I was in the same boat as he was, though in my case my sign read 'Bella's first day of High School.'

"Either way, Elena offered Bella and me a ride to school, so the bus and picture is unnecessary," Uncle Stefan said handing back the poster Dad made for him.

Dad glared at Uncle Stefan as he heard the sound of brakes up front.

The next thing we knew, Dad blurred out of the house abruptly. Uncle Stefan and I quickly ran out, just in time to see Dad talk to the driver before making his way off of the bus.

"You're riding the bus this morning Stefan," Dad states and continues as he sees that Uncle Stefan is about to disagree, "I've compelled the driver to wait for you two before she can move. I don't know about you, but until the vervain leaves the sheriff's blood, I've got no place to be."

It took Uncle Stefan a grand total of five seconds to cave into taking the picture (with the sign) and riding the bus with me.

"Sorry," I say after we took a seat. Uncle Stefan gave me a confused look, so I clarified, "About what Dad did. He was really looking forward to me going to school, he just got a little carried away."

"A little?" Uncle Stefan said with a small laugh and smile.

I smiled in response. "Just a bit."

So overall the morning went pretty well, though I am still not excited about starting school again, but what can I do about it? I know Dad is pretty excited about me going to school, so why begrudge his happiness? Besides, it probably won't be so bad… probably.

I mean, how likely is it that things will end up like Forks? After all, Mystic Falls was sunny all the time. There is no way that a Cold One could go to school here… unless they had found something that would allow them to walk in the sunlight undetected. I look around as if expecting them to pop out of nowhere.

"Relax," I think shaking my head, "No need to be paranoid. If the Cullen's were here, they probably would have left as soon as they saw me. Just like Alice… Enough!

Taking a deep breath, I close my locker and look down at my schedule to see my next class. "I can do this," I say to myself as I make my way to English.

Today was going to be a long day.

So do you all have any predictions and/or suggestions for what will happen on her first day of school?

The next chapter should include her first day of school and some preparations for the Masquerade, just as a heads up! :)

I hope you all enjoyed this chapter!

Until next time!
