Let the Tournament Begin
One Month Later:
On a cruise ship bound for Lily of the Valley Island where the Sinnoh League Lily of the Valley Conference is being held, the Eds were lying on lounge chairs near a pool in their swim trunks, enjoying working on their tans.
"Can you believe we're on an actual cruise ship, you guys?" asked Eddy as he adjusted his sunglasses.
"I have a hard time believing it myself." said Edd as he puts zinc oxide on his nose. Ed was taking a sip of his soda. Over the last month, the Eds have spent nearly every day training their Pokemon to the best of their abilities. During the training, Ed's Torterra learned Leaf Storm, and his Electivire learned Thunder; Edd's Empoleon learned Steel Wing, and Hydro Pump, his Roserade learned Solar Beam, his Gallade learned Close Combat, and his Rhyperior learned Rock Wrecker. Eddy's Infernape learned Sunny Day, and Flare Blitz, his Crobat learned Air Slash, his Golem learned Heavy Slam, his Floatzel learned Rain Dance, and Hydro Pump, and his Froslass learned Shadow Ball and Blizzard. They also spent time in the Grand Underground looking for valuables and items to sell for funds, some of which was spent on buying tickets for the cruise ship they were on. While digging for more valuable items, Ed finds a large blue crystal. A man, who was a merchant, tells Ed that he found a large blue sphere. The man explained to the Eds that spheres are currency in the Grand Underground for merchants to buy items from. The Eds spend some of their time looking for more spheres. Ed was able to dig up ten large green spheres. He uses them to buy a TM from a merchant that has a move called Energy Ball, which he uses on Torterra. Eddy uses some large spheres to buy a TM with the move Dark Pulse on it and uses it on Absol. On Saturdays, they just relaxed and had some fun like they were doing on the ship. "It was a very productive month we had. Our Pokemon have gotten a lot stronger."
"Yeah." said Ed.
"I wouldn't be surprised if one of us did win the tournament." said Edd.
"Yeah, right. You dorks wouldn't stand a chance against me." a familiar voice rings out. Eddy looks up with a frown upon recognition of the voice which belonged to his rival, Devon.
"Oh, it's you, Devon." said Eddy. "What are you doing here? Did you get a job on this ship as a waiter? If so, we'll have three tropical punches and make it snappy." Ed and Edd chuckle in response, enraging Devon.
"In case you didn't know, I'm competing in the Sinnoh League tournament!" said Devon.
"So I take it you won eight badges?" asked Eddy. Devon pulls out his badge case and opens it, revealing eight badges.
"Read 'em and weep, dork." said Devon.
"Yawn." replies Eddy as he pulled out his badge case out of his backpack and opened it, showing Devon his badges. "Not that big of a deal." Devon sneers at Eddy's attitude, but then he notices his Beacon Badge.
"What's that badge on the bottom right?" asked Devon. Eddy looks to see which badge he was talking about.
"Oh. That's my Beacon Badge." replied Eddy.
"Beacon Badge?! But you can only get that at the Sunyshore Gym!" said Devon.
"Duh. That's where you get one. Don't you have one?" replied Eddy.
"No. I tried getting the badge there two times and I lost each time! I'll bet it took forever for you to get one." said Devon.
"If by 'forever' you mean 'got in on my first try' then yes it did take forever." said Eddy, shocking Devon.
"On your first try?!" replied Devon.
"Yeah. Each of us got one on our first tries." said Eddy. Ed and Edd got out their badge cases and opened them, revealing their Beacon Badges.
"You all must've gotten lucky!" said Devon.
"Whatever. So where did you get your eighth badge?" asked Eddy.
"Doesn't matter. What matters is that I'll be at the Sinnoh League tournament, and I'll be holding the first-place trophy." said Devon.
"Only way that'll happen is if I'm willing to let you hold it after I win it." said Eddy. Devon sneers at Eddy.
"Yeah, right." said Devon. "As 'fun' as it was to see you dorks again, I have better things to do than talk to you three losers." Devon turns around and walk away.
"What a jerk." said Eddy. At the pool, Tara climbs out of it, wearing a pink, one piece swimsuit. She walks to another lounge chair not far from where the Eds were and picks up a towel that was on it. As she was drying herself off, she suddenly begins sniffing the air and a disgusted look appeared on her face. She looks around and sees Ed.
"I thought I smelled something nasty." said Tara, walking over to Ed while putting her towel around her shoulders. Ed, hearing someone approaching, looks up and sees Tara, making him frown.
"Not you again, and I was really enjoying this cruise." said Ed, bitterly.
"So, are you going to compete in the Sinnoh League?" asked Tara.
"Yep." replied Ed.
"Well so am I." replied Tara. "I have enough badges to be able to do so."
"So, are you still capturing only cute Pokemon?" asked Ed.
"There's no other kind of Pokemon I wouldn't capture." said Tara. "I caught a cute Teddiursa over a month ago, but then it evolved into a scary Ursaring, so I got rid of it." An enraged look appeared on Ed's face.
"You're still abandoning Pokemon for not being cute?!" yelled Ed, surprising Edd, Eddy, and Tara. "I hope I battle you in the tournament and beat you!"
"I would love to see you try." replied Tara. "Now if you excuse me, I have to go before I pass out from your stench." Tara turns and walks away.
"I'm not just gonna try." said Ed. He turns to Edd and Eddy. "I really don't like her."
"Forget about her until you battle her at the tournament, Ed." said Edd. "For now, let's just enjoy the cruise."
"Okay, Double D." replied Ed. The Eds then jumped into the pool and went swimming. The Eds soon returned to their cabin and changed into their clothes. After that, they went to the ship's onboard restaurant and went to a buffet table which has a large variety of food. After getting their food, they walked to a table and sat down. Eddy looks at the pile of food Ed has on his plate.
"Got enough to eat there, lumpy?" asked Eddy.
"Nope. Just saving room for dessert." said Ed.
"I'm sure you have enough room in your stomach, Ed." said Edd, remembering how Ed coughed up a sink when the Kankers tried to get a key he swallowed, and when Ed ate his own mattress. As they ate, a familiar voice calls out. Edd frowns upon recognizing the voice.
"Well, well, well. Look who we have here?" said Mel, who was sitting at a table next to theirs.
"Greetings, Mel." said Edd without much joy in his voice.
"So, you three are heading for the Sinnoh League?" asked Mel.
"That would be the sole reason we're here." said Edd.
"Well, I hope I don't have to battle some weak girls, though that gym leader at Snowpoint City was tough like I said before." said Mel.
"You better worry about having to battle Double-D, Mel! His Pokemon can easily mop the floor with yours!" said Eddy.
"Please don't shout, Eddy; you're making a scene." said Edd.
"Only way his Pokemon can beat mine is if they were all guys and stronger than mine." said Mel.
"I'm certain my Pokemon are far superior to yours, Mel; both the male and female ones." said Edd.
"We'll see about that at the Sinnoh League." said Mel.
"I believe we will." said Edd. Mel then gets up from his table and walks away. "Good thing he left, I feel I'd lose my appetite if he stayed a bit longer."
"Don't let that loser bother you, Double-D." said Eddy. "Just save it for the Sinnoh League if you go up against him."
"Good idea, Eddy." said Edd. After they ate, the Eds went to their cabin and settled down for the night. The next morning, the Eds woke up and went to the restaurant for breakfast. An announcement was made saying that they would arrive on Lily of the Valley Island in half an hour. Once the Eds had breakfast, they went back to their cabin and got their backpacks. Once the ship docked on Lily of the Valley Island, the Eds and their rivals got off and looked around. They saw a lot of hotels, stores, a few Pokemon Centers, and the Lily of the Valley Stadium where the Sinnoh League tournament was going to take place.
"Well boys, here we are." said Eddy.
"It has been a long journey." said Edd.
"I can't wait!" said Ed as he starts running towards the stadium.
"Hey, monobrow! Wait for us!" said Eddy as he and Edd chased after him. They soon arrived at the stadium and head inside. They go up to the front desk where a female Sinnoh League employee was standing behind.
"Hello, gentlemen. Are you here for the Sinnoh League competition?" asked the receptionist.
"You know it." said Eddy.
"In that case, I'll need to see your gym badges to confirm you're qualified to enter." said the receptionist. The Eds pull out their badge cases and show the receptionist their badges. Upon seeing their Beacon Badges, the receptionist gasped. "You each have a Beacon Badge?! I've never seen one before. The Sunyshore gym leader is supposed to be strong."
"He was quite challenging, but the each of us succeeded in defeating him." said Edd.
"I see." said the receptionist as she checks their badges. "You three have indeed collected enough badges to enter the Sinnoh League tournament." After the receptionist puts in their information, she gives them directions to the hotel that they were arranged to stay at during the tournament. The Eds exit the stadium and head for their hotel. The clerk gives them a key to their room. They take the elevator up to the floor their room was on and go into it. They were astounded by how luxurious it was. A living room with a large sofa in front of a big screen TV with a Blu Ray player next to it, along with some armchairs; a dining room with a large ,extravagant, round table with cushioned chairs, and three bedrooms with each bedroom having a queen-sized bed, nightstand with lamp on it, a small dresser, a flatscreen TV in front of the bed on an entertainment center, plus an armchair in front of a large window that had a great view of the ocean.
"Check out this room!" said Eddy with excitement in his voice.
"Quite extraordinary." said Edd. Ed rushes in and plops down on the sofa.
"This is soft, you guys." said Ed.
"Dogpile!" said Eddy as he and Edd jump on top of Ed who manages to get both of them in headlocks with one arm and gives each of them a noogie. "Ed. Please let go. I don't like being this close to your armpit." After Ed releases them, the Eds sit down and relax. "This is the life, isn't it boys?"
"Indeed. One can get used to this." said Edd.
"Yeah." said Ed. The Eds ordered a large pepperoni pizza, a basket of breadsticks, and three bottles of soda from room service. The hotel employee soon arrives with the food and Ed and Eddy bring it to the table. Edd reaches into his backpack and pulls out his money.
"How much do we owe you for the food, sir?" asked Edd.
"Actually, all commodities are all expenses paid for trainers, thanks to the Sinnoh League." said the employee. Eddy quickly turns around with a big grin on his face.
"ALL EXPENSES PAID?!" exclaimed Eddy, surprising the employee.
"Yes." said the employee.
"This keeps getting better and better!" said Eddy. After Edd gave the employee a tip, the Eds ate their meal and ordered three hot fudge sundaes. Afterward, the Eds got into their swim trunks and got into their jacuzzi tub. "This is living. Right, boys?"
"You said it, Eddy." said Ed in a relaxed tone.
"This is refreshing. I can't believe Ed is actually taking a bath." said Edd.
"Oh, come on you guys. Even I get into water sometimes. Like the cruise ship's pool, the ocean on the beach during our vacation after our battle at Mt. Coronet, and when we tried washing those new clothes that our parents bought us in that small pond back home." said Ed.
"Yeah. Those cheap things fell apart after that." said Eddy. After they bathed, they rented a Blu-Ray movie called 'Attack of the Fifty Foot Tyranitar' and watched it in the dark while having sodas and popcorn and wearing complimentary robes. After the movie, they took care of their teeth, except for Ed, and went to bed. The next morning, the Eds woke up and got dressed. They ordered breakfast for themselves. After they ate, they leave the hotel. "Well, boys, it's time for the Sinnoh League." The boys walked over to the stadium where they saw a lot of trainers gathered. "Look at all these trainers."
"I wonder how hard they had to work to get here." said Edd.
"Who knows?" asked Eddy. Back at Peach Creek in the Park n' Flush trailer park, the Kanker Sisters had Kevin, Rolf, Jonny, Plank, Sarah, Jimmy, and Nazz in their living room, bruised (or in Plank's case, slightly splintered), and tied up. After another month without their 'boyfriends', they went berserk and broke into the kids' homes, attacked them, and brought them all to their trailer. The Kankers glared at the kids who looked beyond terrified.
"All right! It has been months since our boyfriends disappeared! We've had enough games, so we'll give you one last chance to tell us where our boyfriends are, or they won't be the only ones who disappear without a trace!" yelled Lee.
"We keep on telling you, we don't know where those dorks are!" exclaimed Kevin who recieved a kick to the face from Lee for insulting their 'boyfriends'. May looks at Lee.
"Hey, Lee, can I turn on the TV?" asked May.
"Sure. We can use a break." replied Lee. "We can use that new satellite dish we...'borrowed' from someone." May quickly punches Jonny in the arm, hard, walks over to the TV, and turns it on. On the screen was the inside of a large stadium and a man in a suit, holding a microphone.
"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. We are here at the Lily of the Valley Stadium where the annual Sinnoh League competition is being held." said the announcer. People in the audience begin cheering.
"What is this?" asked Marie.
"Who knows? Let's just watch for a bit before the 'fun' continues." said Lee.
"From all around Sinnoh, Pokemon trainers have gathered here after battling gym leaders to win enough badges to earn the right to compete in the Sinnoh League's Lily of the Valley Conference." said the announcer.
"What the heck are Pokemon?" asked May.
"Who cares?" replied Lee, still glaring at their captives.
"Now let's bring out the trainers." said the announcer. Trainers started walking out a large stadium tunnel. Lee and Marie turned towards their captives.
"All right, I think we've had a long enough break." said Lee, punching the palm of her hand. "Okay, you have five seconds to live unless you tell us where our boyfriends are!" The kids begin quivering, sweating, and crying. "Five...four...three...two..."
"IT'S OUR BOYFRIENDS!" exclaimed May. Lee and Marie run over to the TV and sure enough, there were the Eds, walking amongst the other trainers, waving at the people in the audience. The Cul-De-Sac kids look at the TV and saw the Eds on it.
"It's the Eds!" said Kevin.
"No wonder we couldn't find them. They left the country!" said Sarah.
"See? We told you we didn't do anything to them. You can let us go now." said Jimmy, smiling nervously. Lee looks at them and lets out a sigh.
"Fine." said Lee. She, May, and Marie untie them. "Now beat it. We want to watch and keep an eye on our boyfriends." The Cul-De-Sac kids started to leave, but curiosity got the better of them and they walk over to the TV.
"What do you losers want? We don't need you here anymore." asked Marie.
"We want to watch. We're curious about what the Eds are up to." said Jimmy.
"Yeah." said Jonny. "Plank wants to watch too."
"Why should we let you stay?" asked Lee. Kevin reaches into his pocket and pulls out a dollar.
"We'll pay you to let us watch." said Kevin, prompting the other kids to pull out dollars. Jonny pulls out an extra dollar for Plank. Lee takes the money and counts it.
"Okay. But don't distract us." said Lee. The kids sat on the floor and continued to watch. Back at the stadium, the announcer told how they were going to do preliminary matches. It soon showed eight separate brackets on a giant monitor with each Ed and their rivals in a separate bracket. Ten minutes later, the preliminary matches started. The Cul-De-Sac kids and the Kankers watched all the Pokemon battle with increasing interest.
"Whoa. This Pokemon stuff is kind of cool." said Kevin.
"And some of those Pokemon were so cute!" said Sarah. It was soon Ed's turn and May watched the screen closely.
"My big Ed looks so cool in those clothes." said May in a dreamy tone.
"Rolf also likes the overalls the clueless Ed boy is wearing." said Rolf. Ed's Torterra was facing another trainer's Ambipom that looked exhausted.
"Torterra, Rock Climb." said Ed. Torterra gets on his hind legs and slams his front ones onto the ground of the arena, making the ground beneath Ambipom's feet rise, bringing it up. Torterra then runs up the raised ground and rams into Ambipom. It flies off the raised ground and crashes onto the arena floor with swirly eyes. Torterra jumps down from the raised ground and onto the arena floor.
"Ambipom is unable to battle. Torterra wins. The winner of this battle is Ed." said a referee.
"YEAH!" cheered Ed.
"TERRA!" cheered Torterra. Back at the trailer park, May cries out in excitement at Ed's victory.
"That's my Ed!" cheered May.
"That was actually pretty good." said Sarah. Ambipom's trainer returned it to its pokeball and walks over to Ed.
"Good battle." said Ambipom's trainer.
"Thanks. Your Ambipom was good, but Volkner's was even tougher." said Ed. Ambipom's trainer gives Ed pokedollars and shakes Ed's hand. Ed walks to where Edd and Eddy are.
"Great battle, monobrow." said Eddy.
"Congratulations, Ed." said Edd.
"Thanks, guys." replied Ed. Five minutes later, Edd's Empoleon was facing off against another trainer's Magmortar who was struggling to stay on its feet.
"Empoleon, use Aqua Jet!" said Edd. Empoleon coats his body in water and rockets himself at the Magmortar and slams into it, sending it flying where it stops at its trainer, unconscious.
"Magmortar is unable to battle. Empoleon is the winner. The winner of the battle is Edd." said the referee.
"Exceptional job, Empoleon." said Edd. Empoleon does a fist-pump. (a/n: Well, the equivalent of one you can do with a flipper.) Marie stands up with her fists raised.
"My Double-D dreamboat won!" said Marie. "And he looks so cute in that new outfit of his."
"I'll say." said Sarah. Marie turns towards Sarah and glares at her, making Sarah nervous. Edd and Magmortar's trainer walk over to each other and shake hands.
"You're a powerful trainer. I've heard of you and your friends." said Magmortar's trainer.
"Really? I thought only the gym leaders talked about us." replied Edd.
"And a lot of trainers here were hoping we wouldn't go up against any of you. Looks like luck wasn't on my side." said Magmortar's trainer as he hands Edd pokedollars. Edd goes back to his friends.
"Good work, sockhead." said Eddy.
"You did good, Double-D." said Ed.
"Thank you, gentlemen." said Edd. Soon, Eddy's Infernape was going against another trainer's Bibarel that was panting hard.
"Okay, Infernape. End this with Close Combat!" said Eddy. Infernape quickly moves over to Bibarel and faster than anyone can follow, unleashes a fierce barrage of punches and kicks onto Bibarel and sends it flying across the battleground, past its trainer, and into the stadium wall, unconscious.
"Bibarel is unable to battle. Infernape is the winner. That means the winner of the battle is Eddy." said the referee.
"We win!" cheered Eddy. Infernape turns and gives Eddy a thumbs up. Lee back at the trailer park cheered also.
"My Eddy is the man!" said Lee.
"And I like Eddy's new look. He looks so rad." said Nazz. Lee snarls at Nazz in response.
"And that Infernape thing looks so cool." said Jonny. The Eds' rivals also advanced in the tournament. The kids back in Peach Creek continued to watch as the Eds advance through the preliminaires. They watch as Ed's Electivire takes out a pelican-like Pokemon (Pelipper) with Thunder Punch, Edd's Kricketune defeated what looked like a larger Kadabra with longer ears and two spoons instead of one (Alakazam) with X-Scissor, and Eddy's Floatzel takes out a large, tan-colored, hippolike Pokemon (Hippowdon) with Brine. The Eds continued working their way through the preliminary matches until in the end, the Eds all make it past them to earn spots in the main tournament, all while the Cul-De-Sac kids and Kanker sisters were cheering for them back in Peach Creek. Soon, the preliminaries were over with only eight trainers making it to the main tournament.
"The preliminary matches have come to an end." said the announcer. "Let's see who's facing whom in the quarterfinals of the tournament." On the stadium's big video screen, a tournament bracket appeared with eight empty squares at the ends of it. All eight trainers started to flash on them until they stopped. The Eds were surprised because by some twist of fate, they each ended up going against their respective rivals. Ed vs Tara; Edd vs Mel; and Eddy vs Devon. The Eds look at their rivals with looks of determination on their faces.
"Looks like I'll be taking you out of the tournament sooner than I thought, dork." Devon says to Eddy.
"If you said you can beat me in your sleep, I'd have to agree, because the only way you can beat me is in your dreams!" said Eddy. Devon frowns in response.
"You're going down, you smelly oaf." Tara says to Ed.
"You're the one going down." replied Ed.
"Are you going to use some girl Pokemon to beat me?" Mel asked Edd.
"I can defeat you with any Pokemon, male or female." replied Edd.
"Looks like this is shaping up to be an exciting tournament, ladies and gentlemen." said the announcer. "The matches will begin tomorrow morning at 10 o' clock. Be sure to tune in and watch." The screen on the Kankers' TV began showing credits indicating the tournament was done for now.
"NO! I want to see my Ed!" cried May. Lee slaps her across the face.
"Shut up, May. We can watch them tomorrow." said Lee.
"At least we know where our boyfriends are now." said Marie.
"Can we come over tomorrow and watch?" asked Kevin.
"Why should we let you watch with us?" asked Lee.
"We'll bring pizza, soda, and other snacks to have while we watch. We'll share with you to show there's no hard feelings for you torturing us." said Nazz who's hair was starting to grow back.
"We'll even pay." said Jonny as he held out two more dollars.
"Sounds good to me. Fine, you can all come over and watch. And I want pepperoni on some of the pizzas." said Lee.
"Deal." said Nazz. The Cul-De-Sac kids left the trailer while talking about what they saw the Eds doing.
"Did you see the Eds' Pokemon?" asked Jonny.
"Yes. Rolf was amazed by those Pokemon creatures." said Rolf.
"I wonder how they ended up in that Sinnoh place?" asked Jimmy.
"Who knows? At least the Kankers will leave us alone since they know where the Eds are now." said Kevin.
"I can't wait to watch them tomorrow." said Sarah.
"Me, too." said Nazz. Back at the stadium, the Eds were glaring at their rivals.
"We settle this tomorrow once and for all." Devon says to Eddy.
"Looking forward to it, chump." said Eddy.
