"What do you want to ask Spence?" She questioned softly.
He took a deep breath before gulping.
"Well..."
Her smile was warm and inviting but yet he couldn't get the words out. What if this was going to tying everything? What if his failed attempt at asking her out would make their friendship incredibly awkward to the point where they couldn't hang out any more?
"What's wrong Spencer?" She raised an eyebrow noticing how flustered he had gotten in the short space of time.
"I - em nothing - I - its not important -" he stuttered looking down quickly, unable to meet her eye.
Why did this have to be so nerve-wrecking? Why couldn't he be like Morgan and just tell women when he was interested in them.
"Hey, you okay?" She placed her hand on his arm softly, attempting to meet his eye, concern evident in her own.
"Of course I'm okay, you know never mind, it was stupid, I'll just go now I mean I -" he tried to turn away but she grabbed his wrist turning him back around to face her.
"Okay" she began, smiling slightly "I'll ask one more time.. What's going on Spencer?"
He sighed before deciding to just level with her. "Well my friends, they keep teasing me about - Well about you and I and Morgan is under the impression that you - Well that you're um attracted to me because he eh said that when I bit my lip you-" he cut himself off suddenly, his cheeks flushing crimson at his own words.
"And they - they think that I should.. well that I should.." he trailed off unable to finish.
She couldn't help her amusement at the situation and had to bit the inside of her cheek to contain a smirk.
She moved impossibly closer to him, her body nearly touching his. She had a pretty good idea of where this was going and she knew she shouldn't be enjoying his embarrassment but she couldn't help it. He was simply adorable.
"Should what Spence?" Her voice was low as she met his eye in an intense gaze.
He swallowed, unable to tear away from her eyes.
"They think I should ask you out.." he whispered, the words slipping out of his mouth without any hesitation whatsoever.
She nodded, her eyes still fixed on his.
"And what do you think Spencer?" She asked, her voice low.
She was most definitely on the same page as him, right? Surely she had to be interested in him too. There was no way she could be acting like this if she wasn't.
"I think they're right?" he meat it to come out as a statement but it came out as more of a question.
She smiled warmly, stepping impossibly closer to him, going up on her toes to press a quick kiss to his cheek.
"I think they're right too" she told him, grinning at the look of amazement on his face as he held his hand up to his cheek, his fingertips brushing over where her lips had been seconds before.
"W-What?" He asked, having completely missed what she had said.
She giggled at the goofy smile on his face.
"I'd love to go out with you Spencer" she told him, pressing another kiss to the tip of his nose.
His eyes widened in shock and she simply giggled again before heading off in the direction of another table that needed cleaning.
Spencer stood frozen to the spot for a few minutes trying his best to process what had happened before all of a sudden he felt the muscled arm of Derek Morgan around his shoulders, guiding him back to the group of agents.
"Well kid, from what I could see that went very well" the older agent teased, smirking.
Garcia was clapping her hands excitedly and immediately engulfed Spencer in a hug.
"Ahh Dr. Reid has just landed his first date" she exclaimed, leaning back to pinch his cheek.
"I've been on dates" he muttered pulling away from her slightly, still in a bit of a daze after what had just happened.
He couldn't resist watching Rachel as she returned in behind the bar, chatting to the customers as charmingly as always. She had said yes. To a question that he actually hadn't managed to ask, had he?
Not that that was important. She said yes. They were going out on a date. Together.
It was then he started to worry. Where was he going to take her? What would they do? What was she expecting? He didnt know if she'd want to go out to a fancy restaurant or if she'd want to do something more casual.
He thought this over in his head ao much that he didn't even here the teasing from his team members. Before he knew it Rachel was finishing off her shift and heading around to stand next to the group of agents who were now getting quite tipsy.
"It's been great to meet you guys but I have work tomorrow so I should probably head home" Rachel announced.
Though she would really love to spend more time chatting with Spencer's friends, she knew that when she was hungover she couldn't translate the lectures properly and therefore her student would suffer.
There was a groan of protest but she ended up getting a hearty goodbye from the group, with a promise to see them again soon.
Spencer, being a gentleman, offered to walk her home. This was met with smirks and snickers amongst his co-workers.
Rachel however accepted the offer, glad that she wasn't walking home alone.
Once outside of the overcrowded bar, Spencer relaxed a little. He had been a little too flustered in there with all the people making things seem much more pressuring.
"So, what do you say to picking up a pizza?" He asked Rachel as she pulled her hair out of the ponytail it had been in, letting her curls fall loose.
He couldnt help but admire her as she ran her fingers through it, massaging her head ever so slightly to separate it.
"It can be like a Wednesday night tradition" he continued, looking away frok her quickly not wanting to be caught staring.
She grinned. "Sounds good to me, this is our third Wednesday in a row doing it" she replied.
He nodded as they began walking towards the pizza place they had gone to the night they first met. He was worried things would be awkward now he had asked her out but she chatted away as if nothing had changed at all.
Before he knew it they were back in her apartment eating the pizza. He was trying to work up the courage to figure out how to ask her about this whole 'date' situation.
"So - em - W-When do you wanna go out?" He asked her, not sure of what to do at all.
She smiled in return. "Well, I don't really mind Spence. I mean what exactly is it you want to do?" She asked him.
There was a second of silence before he shook his head. "I - eh - I don't know. Dinner? I mean I don't do this much I don't know what the social convention is for dates. In fact while the date is fairly casual in most European-influenced cultures, in some traditional societies, courtship is a highly structured activity, with very specific formal rules. In some societies, the parents or community propose potential partners, and then allow limited dating to determine whether the parties are suited. In Japan, there is a such type of courtship called Omiai, with similar practices called 'Xiangqin' -" he took off in a ramble but cut off when she giggled.
"Don't over think it Spence. Dinner sounds great to me. Tomorrow could work? Or Saturday?" She suggested.
He nodded, a little in shock at how soon she wanted to have their date.
"I don't really know how things with work will go but if we're not on a case tomorrow would be good. Where do you wanna go for dinner? Is there any specific restaurants you like or don't like I guess or-"
Once again she cut him off, finding his inexperience with the situation adorable. "Why don't you surprise me Spence? Anywhere at all will do. Whatever you want" she smiled, hoping to ease his nerves a little.
He smiled in response, instantly thinking of the various places he could possibly bring her.
