Chapter 15 We're Not Broken, Just Bent
*Rima's POV*
How long has it been? No one will talk to me to tell me he's ok. I called all my friends, Nagi's mom, and my mom but no one had made it to the hospital yet. The woman that hit Nagi followed us to the hospital but I didn't want to talk to her. I don't think I could stop myself from yelling at her. She didn't say anything to me either. It was hard to approach a thirteen year old girl who was curled up in a ball on the waiting room chair bawling her eyes out.
"Rima," Kusukusu said concerned.
"Nagi will be ok," Rhythm said.
"He will be sore but he's tough," Temari said.
"This is my fault," I whispered in between my sobs. Hopefully no one heard me. The waiting room wasn't very full. There were a few people here and there but no one was near me. There wasn't a single adult that came over and tried to comfort me.
"No Rima, it's not your fault," Temari said.
"It was that terrible driver over there. What excuse did she give us?" Rhythm said.
"She was texting and driving," Temari answered.
"Rima, funny face!" It didn't cheer me up at all. Nagi has been in surgery for about twenty minutes now. It was the longest time of my life. All I heard was the people in the ambulance saying a few things. They said that luckily he didn't have a concussion but his leg would need emergency surgery. They said that he won't be able to walk for a few weeks. I sobbed harder into my hands just thinking about it.
"Pwetty girl?" I tried to stop my sobs to look at a little boy.
"Pwease don't cry. Mommy says that crying isn't pretty. She says that smiling is beautiful," he said.
"Thank you for telling me," I said as I gave him a fake smile. He smiled at me then ran over to a woman that I assume is his mother.
"At least she calmed down a bit," Rhythm said.
"It's my fault."
"What did you say Rima?" Kusukusu said.
"It's my fault. If I wasn't deep in thought about Rei and Aarin then I wouldn't have walked into the street. I would have never been in danger meaning Nagi wouldn't have to save me. Why didn't I pay attention? I'm a terrible girlfriend."
"RIMA! SNAP OUT OF IT!" Temari yelled. I looked at her.
"It is not your fault. Nagi made his choice to push you out of the way. The car barely hit his leg. If he let you get hit then you could be dead," Temari said. She's right. The impact of the full car probably would have killed me. Nagi saved my life but he hurt himself in the process. There's only one thing I can do now.
*Time Skip*
Everyone that could make it was here about an hour later. Utau, Rei, and Aarin just started a concert and couldn't leave, Ikuto and Nami were already out of town, Kairi couldn't make it but didn't give a reason. So where was I now? I was crying here and there on Amu's shoulder while Yaya rubbed my back. Kukai would pace the waiting room. Nade was with her mother trying to get a nurse's attention to tell us how Nagi was doing. Tadase was in a chair thinking but I have no idea what he could be thinking of. I really wanted Rei here. She's the best at comforting me. My mother wasn't here yet. She sent me a text that she was on her way though.
"Rima-tan, don't cry," Yaya said. I didn't say anything back. I was such a mess right now that I fear that I would break down and cry the second I opened my mouth.
"Nagihiko, Fujisaki," a nurse said.
"That's my son. How is he?" Mrs. Fujisaki asked.
"The doctor managed to fix his leg back to normal but he will need to wear a whole leg cast. The doctor recommends that he shouldn't walk on it for two weeks. We would like it if he stayed here during that time. After that he will need to take it easy and only walk when he needs to.
"No basketball?" Kukai asked.
"definitely not," the nurse said.
"Nagi's not gonna like that," Tadase said.
"He's asleep right now but since you are his mother you are welcome to see him. I'm sorry to say but the doctor doesn't want others to visit him till he's awake," the nurse said.
"I'm his sister! Can I go too?" Nade asked.
"Yes you may. His room is this way," the nurse said as she had the purple haired women follow her. It had been a few minutes and Tadase had to go home. Slowly one by one they all had to leave because their parents wanted them home since it was late. I was alone again after twenty minutes.
"Where is Fujisaki, Nagihiko room?" I looked up to see my mom.
"Mama!" I called. She looked over at me. Quickly, she rushed over to me.
"Oh Rima! How are you?"
"I'm fine mama, thanks to Nagi," I said. She held me close while I sobbed some more. I know I needed to get my act together but I was too upset to care.
"Shhh, baby girl," she said. I forgot how mom's comforting felt. It had been so long. It feels so good that I forgot about my injured boyfriend in another room in this hospital for a minute or two.
"That's it baby girl. Take deep breaths." I managed to calm down. She did it. I always depended on Rei to be my motherly figure but now I have my mom back to normal.
"Are you calm enough to tell me exactly what happened?" I nodded my head. She sat down and had me sit on her lap. I know I was a teenager and this was really uncool but I didn't care. I missed out on this as a kid.
"Nagi was walking me home from Seiyo Elementary. We went to go see our younger friends where they said they were together. I must have been so deep in thought because I crossed the street without looking. Nagi snapped me out of it and called me back. I started to walk back to him when I saw really bright lights. I don't remember too much after that. I remember my named being yelled and then I was pushed to the ground. There were screeching tires. I heard him scream in pain. Then I screamed when I realized what happened. He was-"
"You don't have to say anything else baby."
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"For being here for me."
"Of course."
"Mama?"
"Yes baby."
"I love you."

"Can you please point out to the Fujisaki room?"
"Dad!"
"Rima!" He rushed over to me and mom.
"How is he?"
"Surgery went well. He's sleeping right now. We can see him when he wakes up," I said.
"Rima, I don't want you to get your hopes up but he might not wake up till tomorrow," dad said.
"I know but I want to stay. He saved my life so I feel like I have to stay," I said.
"Alright, we'll be here with you," dad said.
*Time Skip*
For the next two hours we waited just like dad promised. He told me that if I was too upset and I would be exhausted tomorrow so he would call the school and I would not go. I was passed from my mom to my dad then back to my mom, etc. They both ended up falling asleep. My mom was leaning on my dad's shoulder while he leaned on her head. It made me feel a little better.
"Rima-chan?" I looked over to see Nadeshiko. She looked really tired.
"Nadeshiko, how is he?"
"He's awake," she said. I looked at my parents. I couldn't leave them and have them wake up and think I was kidnapped again.
"I'll stay with them," she said.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, it's not me that Nagihiko wants to see. He wants to see proof that you're ok," she said.
"Are you sure?"
"Go ahead Rima, you've been waiting for hours," she said. I decided to follow her order. She gave me directions to Nagi's room. I was a little afraid to go in. I timidly knocked on the door.
"Come in." That was Nagi's voice. He sounded tired. I took a few seconds to regain some confidence and walked in.
"Rima."
"Hey Nagi, how are you feeling?" I asked as I went to the side of the bed .
"I can't really feel anything right now with all the medication the doctors gave me," he said. I held one of his hands in both of mine. Tears started to fill my eyes.
"I'm so sorry," I said.
"Rima." He reached his other hand up and cupped my cheek.
"Don't be sorry." His gaze was intense. A tear fell down my face but he quickly wiped it away.
"Rima, I'm glad I did it. If that car hit you then you would be-" He looked as if he couldn't finish his sentence.
"I would be dead," I said. The room was silent.
"Children, let's cheer up. Nagihiko I will get you a drink and some food. You must be hungry. Rima, would you like something to eat or drink?" Mrs. Fujisaki said sensing that Nagi and I might want some privacy.
"A drink please, it doesn't matter what it is," I said a little grateful that she was giving us the room. She looked back at Nagi then left.
"Nagi!"
"You're alright!" Rhythm and Temari hugged Nagi.
"I'm sorry I worried all of you," Nagi said.
"Shut up! Don't worry about that! JUst get better," Temari said. Nagi smiled at Temari then nodded his head. I had to do this before I chicken out.
"It's Rei and Aarin!" Kusukusu said.
"It's their live concert," Rhythm said.
"Good for them," Nagi said.
"Nagi." He looked at me.
"What is it Rima?"
"We-we-I."
"Rima, you can tell me anything."
"I don't think we should be together." His face turned pale and his eyes went wide.
"Why?"
"I...I hurt you. I only bring you down. I need you more than you need me," I managed to say. There were more tears falling down my face.
"Rima, you never bring me down. I've always needed you. I need you the most right now," he said as he held both of my hands. I looked in his eyes. He looked broken up inside.
"I love you Rima," he said.
"I love you too but..." I didn't know how to end my sentence.
"Hello everyone! Ari and I came up with a new duet song. We hope you enjoy!" The noise from the TV is all we could hear.

I looked back at Nagi. Maybe were just bent and we could get through this and love each other again. I hugged him the best I could.
"Rima," he said confused.
"I'm sorry. I still want to be with you. I know we are bent but we aren't broken," I said.
"Who knew that Rei and Aarin's song would change your mind, but I'm glad it did," he said as he held me close.
"Alright children I brought food and drinks. Also Nagihiko, the doctor said that after you eat they would like to check up on you. Rima-chan, you're parents went ahead and went home. Nadeshiko is spending the night at your house. You two might not be going to school tomorrow but she is," Mrs. Fujisaki said as she brought in a tray. I almost mad a terrible mistake by giving up too easliy. For now on, while Nagi is in that cast, I'm going to take care of him like he has always done for me.
Kusukusu: Rima almost broke up with Nagi!
Rhythm: Thank goodness that Rei and Aarin saved their relationship unintentionally
Temari: I guess they could say it's luck
