The Dragon Civil War (The Ten Golden Stars)– 6857 AT- 6860 AT

Beginning of the end of the gold dragon kind as many called it. A civil war that lasted three years as dragon families vouched for the ultimate seat of power. Like humans they had a throne created from raw gold draconium. It was a time when dragons were equal to humans and many inhabited the ambitions of human nature. The everlasting effects of the civil war changed the world for the worst as many countries soon followed abolishing the dragon seat. Forever removing pure equality for dragons.

Before this time, it was peaceful as the dragon world was ruled by a great dragonlord Errier XI (6763-6857). Succeeding the dragon throne after his mother Avalon III (6745-6773) who passed from cancer.

Errier XI had five litters altogether throughout his long life. Four being with his lifelong mate and first cousin Libelle IV (6764-6830).

Errier's and Libelles first litter born in 6779 consisted of three dragon pups being born. Eviana II (6779-6779) hatched then fell asleep to never wake up, Arad (6779-6812) death by falling off a cliff while hunting, Alika (6779-6809) died of the vomiting sickness, Apalla (6779-6784) death from infection by fighting another dragon.

Errier's second litter only produced one dragon that hatched Kirin (6787-6849) Death by stroke. Having a wild nature, he never abided by the palace. Becoming a known rogue and joining a criminal group called the dragon demons. He was immediately disowned and barred from any noble titles or inheritance. Kirin had three pups Theodore X (6840-6858), Atlas III (6840-6890) and Estrela (6840-6862).

His third successful litter of children were born in 6810. Eponine (6810- 6852) Death by heart attack, Tiamat (6810-6820) death from scale rot, Beaucephalus VII (6810-6831) death from infection by injuries caused during a tourney, Eira (6810-6815) death by shivers.

Errier's fourth litter in 6820 only one hatched and it was never named. For when it came out of its shell. It was grotesque and horrifying to look at. The creature then fell dead. Libelle was quoted saying in dragon tongue she can no longer handle any more eggs.

After Eponine's death, Errier was quickly matched and mated a much younger gold dragon Scylla (6836-6858). Who is his niece, her first and only litter only three dragon pups were born. Romulus V (6854-6854) was born deformed (yet noted not as monstrous as Libelles), Orion IX (6854-6854) Born with her skull caved in, Starlyn II (6854-6855) Died earlier in the year from scale rot.

In the later year of 6855 AT a great council was hosted in the gold palace pavilion. As the current dragon leader of the time, Errier XI (6763-6857) the old was fearing of who will succeed after him. He had no dragon pups who survived as his last remaining dragon child from his third litter Eponine (6810-6852) died from a heart attack. While all have grandchildren who desire the dragon throne.

The council consisting of all high born and political standing both human and dragon voted who shall rule next to Empress Catiana III (6842-6857).

The court voted in favour of Sidra VII. A surprising choice to all the dragon candidates. Sidra wasn't immediate family to Errier XI by being a distant cousin.

The war began when Errier XI the old passed away in his sleep. Detesting Sidra's rule. Estrela, and Scylla kept it a secret from Sidra VII as he travelled to meet his dying father in the distant city of Halcyon. However, Estrela and Scylla desired the throne for themselves.

The ten dragons who led the civil war:

Estrela (Star of the East) Born 6840/ Died 6862: Daughter of Kirin and granddaughter of Errier XI The Old. Raised in the City of Loan as her mother a blue dragon took her there to be raised. She was raised close to the royal family and got close to her grandfather. However, her personality was never a kind one… She was vain and looked down on everybody else. She believed the throne is her birthright. She had little support from everyone in Loan. But she had a plan and quickly formed an alliance with Altair VII. The leader of Dominus Sahara. Estrela was then nicknamed the Star of the Eastern Desert. With this new alliance, she becomes fascinated with slavery and promised to legalize the laws when she becomes a leader.

Estrela is Beau's Great, Great, Great, Great, Great grandmother.

Rider: Evelyn Morningstar

Her human partner Evelyn was a high-born child born in the Morningstar family. She shared similar views to her dragon partner. Believing the throne should be Estrela's she follows her to the desert and helps as general for Estrelas' cause. By the war's end, she begins to fear Estrela.

Scylla (The Star of Water) Born 6836/ Died 6858: The second mate of Errier XI the Old and his niece. One of the first to find out about his death. She kept information about his death private as she prepared for a quick coronation. But to her disappointment, she finds a fool on the throne. Polaris looked down at her. Enraged she sentences Polaris and the young priest to death. "Would you let any person sit on the human throne?" She said. And so her point was made.

She was once known as a kind and caring dragon. But losing her first and only litter she grew cold and resentful. It only worsened when Errier died. Unlike a few others, she never chose a rider. So her bonemark was never formed. She believed to be the lord the dragons needed in grief. She took up arms as others claimed the throne. Allying with the Light-Blue Empire who have the best navy in the world. But to her disappointment, many of the battles were not on the sea...

Sidra VII (The Star who never shined) Born 6831/ Died 6857: The second of the stars to die. Sidra was voted to become a dragon by the great council. Loving and kind everyone knew he was a stellar choice of leader. He was away visiting his ailing father when Errier XI The Old passed. He did not receive word until a few days later. He then found out Polaris crowned himself as Dragon Lord, while others claimed to oppose each other. This infuriated him! Returning as quick as possible he immediately called a grand council. He never made it back to the city as he was killed by wild dragons and mercenaries. (It was rumoured that Theodore was behind it, but not proven).

His body was brought back to Loan. The funeral became chaotic as the dragons were restless with uncertainty. Estrela, Orinda, Theodore and Fraenor were not present at the funeral.

Orinda (Star of the Sky) Born 6830/ Died 6859: Eponine's oldest daughter and granddaughter of Errier IX the old. Once best friends with Estrela and helped raised the young pup. Their relationship was immediately tarnished as Orinda herself declared as Dragonlord. Knowing that Estrela gained orange armies in the northeastern desert. She gains allies in the white armies of the southern cliffs.

Known to be classy and mature she is well-liked by the nobility. So funding for her war campaign was not challenging.

She is Fraenors sister and does not want her brother to have the throne.

However, she fell as the wind temple collapsed and Fraenors siege finally succeeded.

Rider: Darren Eveningstar

Fraenor (Star of the North) Born 6830/ Died 6860: Dragon son of Eponine and grandson of Errier he believes the throne is his birthright. Like the others, he did not support Sidra VII as monarch. He like his cousin searched for an alliance and gained the alliance of the Black Empire. Easily becoming one of the most powerful candidates. He once loved his sister Orinda as they were once close. But the power struggle placed them on the field. They both wanted the same thing.

When Orinda was found dead in the rubble he howled in mourning for the whole day.

He was the last opponent of Estrella to die.

Rider: Knud Halfhand

Polaris (Star for a day) Born 6825/ Died 6857: The first to die in the war. Known to be a happy-go-lucky dragon he wasn't the smartest of dragons. He was the joke for being crowned for a day. He sat on the throne as he demanded a newly anointed priest to perform a coronation. It was officiated. The young newly appointed priest and Polaris were publicly executed by Scylla and the crown. Both convicts said it was only jest.

Pyxis (Star of Loan) Born 6828- Died 6857: Empress Catiana III dragon partner. Being her partner Pyxis believed that he had the right to the throne. Dragons do not pass down the throne hereditary. It is not the law as humans are and were only done because the pup was raised like its parent. Empress Catiana III passed from childbirth. Her daughter Princess Estella was to inherit the throne when she comes of age with her father Emperor consort Elijah as guardian. After Sidras' death, Pyxis believed none of the others should have the throne and Elijah agreed. He had the most support from Loan however was short-lived as he was assassinated in his sleep. His murderer was never discovered. He was the third to die.

Rider: Empress Catiana III

Theodore X (Star of the Wilds) Born 6840-6858: Like his sister Estrela he believes that the throne is his. But unlike his sister he lived outside of the city. Very much like his father and sister he was brash, wild and cruel. He created alliances with rogue dragons, sell swords and the group Demon Dragons.

Estrela and he managed an alliance to not attack each other. However short-lived as Theodore ravaged and stole her supply caravans to aid her desert troops. Infuriating Estrela which made her reply in turn by using slave money to purchase his sell swords allegiance. They turned on him and destroyed everything. He was imprisoned for months until Estrela decided to end his life.

Starlight (Star of the common) Born Unknown/ Death 6860: The least known dragon. She created an uprising in the city against their wealthier oppressors. For the war has lost many lives and has caused havoc amongst the common folk especially dragons. This caused massive protests and caused problems for the guards to keep Loan protected. Many dragons calling for her to become the dragonlord. She led the riots to the dragon gold palace where much of the mob was arrested or killed. Starlight died by Fraenors claws as his armies settled inside the city.

Helios V (Star of the Flame) Born 6839/ Died 6860:

A late candidate to the war he believes that Erriers family should not have any power at all. Following Pyxis footsteps, he becomes allies with Red and Turquoise. Entering the war in early 6858. He was loved by many and had a loving and charming personality. He won many battles as Estrela, Theodore, Orinda and Fraenor feared that he could possibly win. And he almost did...

However, it was not enough as he was mobbed and killed by the rioters of Loan. He is the eighth to die.

Notable Battles

The battle of Titan hill 6857: The first battle took place outside of the city. Between Scylla and Estrela. Both were not present at the battle as the soldiers fought. But the win was to Scylla. This made Estrela furious as her main form of battle is to destroy supply lines.

The Turn Cloaks of 6858: "My foolish brother, He has no idea of untrustworthy human sell swords are..." Estrela said to Evelyn. As Estrela sends word to his sell swords to give them more money. It worked as many killed the Demon dragons and Theo was taken, prisoner.

Scyllas' Final Stand 6858: Scyllas' final stand as Orinda and Scylla fight on the border of Gold country. The white armies closed in on Scylla's position. She had a choice to stay or flee. She chose to flee, but to her sadness, the ending was the same. Orinda caught her at the wind gate. As dragon custom, they fought without mag powers to the death. Scylla has no bonemark and is smaller in statue. Stood little chance against Orinda. It was reported that Scylla was terrified and cried when she died.

Siege of Wind Temple 6859: Orinda's final stand as Fraenor laid siege to the cliff city called Aeries edge. It lasted almost a year. Orinda's final offensive failed as the foundations of the city began to collapse. Her last place was the Wind Temple. It collapsed with her inside ending her campaign.

Darren Eveningstar survived

The anti-dragon revolutionists 6859: The human group who demanded dragons to be second-class citizens. Once known to be a small group that was known as a pest. Their group gained much momentum as the war carried on by gaining a foothold on the political scene.

The End of the gold Dragon Palace (Dragon's Den) 6860: The Loan riots started by a dragon named Starlight (who was surprisingly a gold dragon). Wants the war to end. She encouraged the common folk to take up arms against the highborn. Many died as Loan became the battleground.

The Battle of Loan 6860: A battle in the sky with Estrela and Evelyn versus Fraenor and Knud. Above the palace as everyone watched below. The last sky battle was ever written in history as Estrela was victorious. Her winning move by ripping off Fraenors wing caused him and Knud to fall to their deaths. However, it came with a terrible price as Fraenor in his last move mag pushes Evelyn off Estrelas's back by surprise. Falling to her death as Estrela tried to rescue her as her wings dissipated. Estrela managed to survive the fall. However, she would never be able to walk normally again.

Other Countries

Blue remained isolated at this time.

Brown and the very young country of Light-Green did not take part in this conflict. Only watching from the sidelines as they did not have the resources to help whomever they believed deserved the crown.

Purple flat-out did not care...

Orinda, Estrela, Fraenor pleaded for green to join their causes. However, all were flat-out refused as they believed no dragons should have a seat in power.

Aftermath

Estrela exhausted and rife with grief was finally coronated in 6860. Estrela becomes the dragon lord of all dragonkind. It was known that Evelyn was the person who grounded her and without her, it was documented that she was losing herself. The aftermath of the war only became worse. Estrela officiated slavery laws against the term of Loan laws as she promised. Inviting Orange Empire leaders into court and plead their case. Another war almost breaks out as that promise begins to crumble.

She became paranoid and angry. It was told she was speaking to Orinda, Fraenor, Theodore and Scylla's ghosts. Her dragon pups and mate began to fear her. She did not want anyone to steal her crown.

Estrela knows the only thing in the world she wants is power. Desiring more and more she wished that she held the throne on her own. In a rebellious coup, she planned to have the baby Empress Estella murdered. Her plan unravelled when her human steward Mary told Elijah, Estella's father and Emperor consort. Estrela did not know that they knew… Her life ended that night as a blade slit across her throat as she slept. And so ended her short reign of two years.

Estrela family fearing, they would be next to die fled to the far north. Living self-exile in the wilds.

She was succeeded by Volamena VIII (6832-6910). A dragon whose from a family who was not part of the conflict. The coronation was wrought with anti-dragon sentiments. Volamena VIII was young and enthusiastic. It took her years to try and repair relations between families and the city. But the damage was done…

Many gold dragons died during the war and only fifty survived the conflict, including Estrelas own hatchlings. It devastated the royal family and priesthood. Changing the course of history eventually evolved into a dragon-human conflict a hundred and twenty years later.
